i always see hc’s about sirius & lily bonding over their estranged relationships with their siblings but what we really need to discuss is how it’s another reason for them to mistrust and/or dislike and/or not respect each other because reg & lily feel like they were abandoned while sirius & petunia are the older siblings who left them behind ..

as much as I hate Remus the Plot Device and how jkr consistently ruined Remus the Character with her plot, I love that the best way to explain all of it is him being stupidly in love with sirius:

- didn’t want to tell his old headmaster that his friends became animagi for him??? mmmm seems fake, pretty sure he just doesn’t want sirius to be caught. we know, canonically, that he didn’t want the dementors kissing his man.

- forgot to take his wolfsbane?? how. HOW. seeing his lover’s name on the map and losing his gd mind is how.

- the distrust? best explained by them both knowing they couldn’t be objective about each other. also an insecure attachment style will do absolutely wild things to your brain.

- not being in gof??? he was with sirius the whole time (except for the cave—they were having a lover’s quarrel).

- being such a fucking downer from hbp onwards… I MEAN…

- even the “how remus got with tonks” story unnecessarily includes sirius. and listen, I’m not saying I believe that remus fucked tonks in a moment of metamorph genderfluidity when he looked a hell of a lot like his dead cousin and didn’t think he could get pregnant like that… but I’m not NOT saying it either…

“Dad, I’ve been flying since I was a year old,” Harry deadpans, hands balled on his hips. “Literally.”

“Yes, well, I didn’t sign up for that, now, did I,” James Potter grumbles. His hair, an unruly mop on a good day, now resembles an electrified raccoon. He doesn’t seem to care as his hands reach up to pull at it again. “I still haven’t forgiven Sirius for it, you know.”

“Dad.”

“Baby, you’re only twelve,” his father pleads, hazel eyes beseeching. “It’s not safe for you to be so high up. Trust me, I’d know.”

“Yes, because you were on the team in your second year,” Harry hisses in return. His ears feel warm, and there’s a telltale stinging in his eyes. “It’s not fair.”

With that declaration, he stomps away to his room, realising he was being childish but not being able to help it.

James stares at his son’s retreating back helplessly, hands fluttering in a futile attempt to do something.

“You deserved that, you know.” An amused voice pops up behind him and he shoots a dark glare at his wife leaning against the wall. “Acting all holier-than-thou when all of us know about the stunts you’ve pulled on a broom.”

“Yes, well. Harry’s just a child,” he harrumphs; it’s a familiar refrain. Lily just hums in response.

“And I’d like you to remember what you were doing as a child, at his age,” she says casually before walking off.

James’ face drains of all color at her words. They’d discovered Remus’ secret in second year and after that—

noelashe foilism mirrorism ramble

Sorry for this getting into semantics type of post but. People always call noelashe narrative foils but i think that saying they mirror eachother (the opposite of foil) is way more fitting... I always thoughtttt i was the one that wasn't getting the definition of "narrative foil" but if you think that you probably interpreted their arc as the few moments in which they highlight Noel as "good" (only willing to attain his wish through dream-like means) and Ashe as "bad" (able to do demonic things to attain his wish). That's what narrative foils are, an apparent contrast between 2 characters who are completely different, but share some core value that somewhat unfortunately brings them together, usually between protagonist and antagonist who couldn't be any more different. But the point of the entire explanation imo is that their wishes are the same, even the fact that their methods make their wishes unattainable are the same, It's a wake-up call as to how pointless the preaching of morals on Noel's part of these actions is in order to alienate himself from Ashe (and painfully enough in turn his father), because both are rooted in something that is basically wrong/twisted since they are trying to bring a reality that is impossible into fruition out of their own selfish (selfless) desires. The definition of this is a mirror, 2 people who share many similarities which highlight the oppositional core value that sets them apart. So albeit it was disguised as a foil, the entire POINT of the revelation in Sirius conclusion is that Noel thought they were foils, but they were mirrors all along! See the literal CG in the game where Noel is looking in the mirror and sees Ashe. And while it is possible to have mirror-characters also be foils, while they are in some cases synonyms, i feel like with my own interpretation of the characters -- Noel as capable of more than he wants to think, the effect of survivor's guilt making him hold himself back, and Ashe as barely attached to reality & using the mask of evil to obscure the guilt he feels about the rational but unfulfilling reality of what happened, the survivor's guilt spurring him on to hide its existence -- I feel like they truly don't oppose eachother enough to be called foils, only opposing eachother in ways that comes down to ONE crucial instance: whether they are able to kill Claire or not. & that's what makes them interesting, since they have almost the same values, but the response to the guilt makes them seem like opposites at first glance. But they are not <3

i'm saying this because i had an entire paragraph analyzing their dynamic in my notes app just and now my analysis is mediocre at best

Something so fucked in how it's Wilardo specifically who ends up doodling with Claire and Sirius, who gives them both some of his preserved flowers as a thank you for letting them stay in the mansion/just out of kindness. He's the one that struggles for around a day debating if it's right to kill Claire for his wish and ultimately decides letting them both live is the easier (happier) option for him. Even if he'd be dead soon after. How when it all ends it isn't Noel or Ashe who walks away with them both but Wilardo, who had killed them both in Sirius's initial scenario.
