songs i associate with redacted audio characters - speaker edition
!! CW FOR MENTIONS OF ADDICTION, UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, AND AARON & ELLIOTT'S BACKSTORY !!
this is gonna be exactly what it says on the tin. there'll be some explanations under the cut for what im doing w this!
to keep it brief, im giving each of the characters under the cut three songs from my playlists of them, and go into a little detail on why i chose them/have them in their playlists. sounds simple, right? i'll also be including links to the songs if you want to add them to your own playlists!
with that, let me explain what the fuck is up shjdkfdsh
so a bit of context: i grew up writing karaoke fanfics on wattpad, which if you don't know, were reader-submitted requests for specific characters to sing songs within a short story, mainly in a group setting at karaoke. this has made me extremely specific with music and assigning them to characters, along with finding "singing voice-claims" for characters. so, i have some credentials when it comes to this stuff fjdhsgshjgd
with that explanation out of the way, onto the fun! one of the songs listed for each of them will be their svc (singing voice-claim), except for gavin, because i'm still working on finding his svc (i am leaning towards dpr ian for him though because... don't go insane. yeah)
if that all makes sense...
let's go!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
gavin
horns - bryce fox
; so this is the song i used as the title for my big ol' gaviant smut i wrote (shameless plug shhhhh). this song is just so gavin, especially season one gavin. the sex appeal that oozes from it, the way the singer wants the subject so badly even if he knows she's bad for him. like, s1!gavin wasn't a bad guy, but he was kind of morally ambiguous in a way that could be read as toxic. however, as freelancer's relationship with him deepened, we learn that he values consent and being authentic, something other concubi don't. what can i say, i like good character growth.
human - dodie
; this was one of the first songs i put on his playlist, and for good reason. this song, to me, is freelancer singing this about and to gavin. it's about connection, it's about wanting to see what the other person is like under the persona they've created. this song is what happened when freelancer began learning about gavin past the "sex daemon" persona, but its also what happened when gavin learned about freelancer and how they were more than a "jack-of-a-trades mess of a human". listen i love the two of them so much.
sweet tooth - scott helman
; a more recent addition to my playlist, this one also makes a lot of sense to me. this song is about addiction, and while gavin like, literally needs feelings of desire to live, it also can be said that he probably has had an unhealthy relationship with sex in the past. i also just really like this song. but i think gavin has healed a lot of his attitudes towards his fellow concubi, with freelancer's help and of his own personal efforts.
━━━━━━━━
elliott
dream boy - waterparks
; we have reached our first official svc! awsten knight of waterparks is my elliott svc. does this is really match my face claim for him? kinda? i had this svc waaay before i had josh hutcherson as elliott actually. but, to talk abt the song itself, i mean. c'mon now. it's literally elliott to sunshine. the vision in my brain is that elliott sings this at karaoke before he and sunshine get together, but are definitely both pining hardcore for each other. there's something about the playful flirty energy of this song that reminds me of elliott in the best way imaginable. he's just a little dorky, what can i say!
wasted summers - juju
; i like some angst! im not all fluff and humor and smut. i appreciate a good angst now and then. my brand of angst is just kind of specific. you'll see that in a sec. but this song just reminds me of elliott and aaron for obvious reasons. how aaron grew up too fast cuz of their parents, how aaron felt jealous and angry over elliott telling him and their mom about magic, how elliott told sunshine he's the protective type because of how he grew up (side note i have many thoughts abt elliott & blake and protection vs possession if anyone would be interested lmao). their relationship just makes me go a bit insane /pos.
still got it - troye sivan
; ALRIGHT THIS REQUIRES A BIT OF AN EXPLANATION. so i basically have a whole mv planned in my big ol' brain around this song, and around the concept of: what if scorpius' memory erasing worked for longer? what if elliott genuinely thought, for a bit, that he and sunshine had a bad breakup, but that he still loved them? and still "wanted them back"? only to then have the memories, the real ones, come back in a flood of sensory overload and horrible realizations? see? i like angst. :]
━━━━━━━━
porter
brutus - the buttress
; first things first, i dont support this band due to their transphobic comments. that being said, this song is incredibly porter-coded. "my whole life you were a teacher and friend to me / please know my actions are not motivated only by envy" - like this is just about will and vincent. i don't have to explain further.
we don’t have to dance - andy black
; porter's svc! i liked this song for him cuz i imagine treasure is the first person in a loooong time that porter has actually wanted to stay around, even though he's so used to these one night stands and passionate scenes. and even though he really likes treasure, he still goes back to the old him: offering just to dance, just to fuck, just for this to be casual.
car lights - james marriott
; so i have a little headcanon that porter's maker was someone that porter was dating in secret because he (maker) was the kind of guy who would say homophobic things in front of others, but would end the night with his tongue down porter's throat (or something like that). this song is about that kind of experience: worried you're about to be caught despite it feeling so fucking good. also, this song just kinda slaps.
━━━━━━━━
lasko
stutter - marianas trench
; this song just makes sense, not just in the fact that lasko stammers and stutters a lot when talking (especially when he's excited, god hes adorable) but also in that lasko is basically a hyperverbal autistic/auDHD person who constantly talks even when they don't have the energy to do so (totally not projecting what) and i think that's representation we don't always see. also, imagine him finding this song and dancing to it? yeah.
eraser - ricky montgomery
; lasko's svc! does this surprise anyone? actually it might. i love ricky montgomery so much, his debut album is one of my favorite pieces of music out there and i think he's such a talented artist. his range and subject matter in his songs always screamed lasko to me, and ricky's vocals just match lasko so much. this song is about being socially awkward, which like. yeah. i have like four or five ricky songs on my lasko playlist which is really funny actually hgjkfdhsdh!
my mother wants me dead - carolesdaughter
; lasko "mommy issues" moore anyone? yeah this song is that. i know i could have gone for the mitski mommy issues, but something about lasko tells me his mommy issues are like rage. like, as much rage as lasko can have towards a person. the damn fam and their mommy issues. this song also plays into my hc that lasko used to smoke before starting at D.A.M.N., picking it up after the inversion, and then quitting again once he started healing and met coworker.
━━━━━━━━
guy
fallin’ for you - r5
; as you all know by now, ross lynch is my guy faceclaim. and while i love the driver era (a kiss is also on my guy playlist, it is in fact the best tde song), ross' voice during the r5 era actually suits guy a little more to me if im being honest. also, its a hc of mine that guy's family did music, but guy had a really bad falling out with his parents and it kinds ruined things for a while. r5!ross's vocals are higher than now, since this was during the disney era, but this song is just too perfect to me not to use for guy.
30/90 from tick…tick…BOOM!
; i mentioned this in my face claim post, but i had andrew garfield as my guy face claim because of this song from the movie. it's just like literally guy tho. we know guy's a writer, we know how writers are. as a writer myself (not professionally), "30/90" is more than just representation of someone wanting to peak before their past "the right age"; this is about creatives wanting to make something that will last longer than their life, and that just screams guy to me. i don't think he wants to be famous, but i think he wants to have a legacy of media he creates last longer than himself.
honey - troye sivan
; listen. "something to give each other" is my favorite album from 2023, and most of those songs remind me of one redacted character or another, so if there's a lot of songs in my playlists from this album, shush. anyways, this song is an obvious choice for guy since it's titled "honey", but if you listen to it, it actually is a pretty sweet (eh? eh??) song. it's about falling for someone and wanting to be with them, and since its a fandom wide hc that guy probably fell in love with honey upon first meeting them, this plays into that idea. look i just love how much of a simp guy is for honey, what can i say?
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
if i have any more energy to do more of these i will, but my spring break ends soon so we'll see. also, i managed to make height charts for redacted audio characters & listeners if anyone would wanna see those (they would include my listener oc's). also, if you have any songs you think fit the bois, i may open my asks again if you want to send those to me :0

Questions DPR IAN asks us
DPR IAN, singer-songwriter and director of the music video for IU’s “Shopper”

Audio
Bipolar disorder, often taboo in society, can be a source of inspiration for artists. They don’t try to avoid or hide their problems but rather bring them into the center of their artistic pursuits. When I listen to the excellent resulting work, I feel both a sense of pity for the pain the artist had to endure and a thrill for a great piece of music. It’s truly a contradictory feeling. This is the case with DPR IAN’s creations.
Diagnosed with bipolar disorder as a teenager, DPR IAN’s struggle has taken an unusual approach to understanding and overcoming the disorder: personifying depression and creating an alter ego. The fallen angel MITO is a reflection of IAN’s past and present, based on whom IAN released a series of works throughout 2021 and 2022. MITO’s experiencing mood swings caused by bipolar disorder is the motif of Moodswings In This Order. In MITO's journey, which is documented through music and video, mental disorder is reimagined as a very special talent, like a superpower.
Another alter ego was presented in his latest album released last October, Dear Insanity: Mr. Insanity, who is the polar opposite of MITO. For the first time, a character other than MITO was at the center of the narrative. The two seem to typify each side of IAN’s bipolar disorder. Visually, MITO, filled with pain and sadness, is represented in black and white, while Mr. Insanity is represented in a variety of colors to highlight his brighter side. IAN sets up his two alter egos as opposites, but also as projections of each other, just like Batman and the Joker.
It’s not just about the narrative and concept. IAN’s colorful productions, which blend genres like chamber pop, electronica, alternative R&B, house, and Britpop, and alternate between orchestral arrangements and electronic drops, also represent what he’s trying to say with his work. The artistic world that he created is sophisticated, exciting, and free-spirited. Many artists are willing to be vulnerable and express themselves as they are, but few can turn it into something so awe-inspiring.
IAN's talent as a music video director has also helped him become the internationally acclaimed artist he is today. He’s an excellent singer-songwriter and visual director. His position in the DPR crew, which brought new tension to the Korean hip-hop and R&B scene, was also in the visual arts. Although he debuted as a member of the K-pop group C-Clown, visuals are as much a part of his artistic world for DPR IAN as music.
In terms of career history, the two fields are of a similar proportion. In addition to his own and other DPR members’ music videos, he has done outside work. The videos of his iconic songs like “No Blueberries,” “Don’t Go Insane,” “Peanut Butter & Tears,” “So I Danced,” and “Limbo,” as well as the videos for his fellow DPR member Hong Dabin (aka DPR Live)’s “Jasmine,” “Yellow Cab,” and “Legacy,” BOBBY’s “Holup! (2016),” MINO’s “Body (2016),” and TAEYANG’s “Wake Me Up (2017)” are some examples.
Most of his productions are unique and creative. Given the level of visual perfection of his work, many people expect him to have the backing of a major investor or label. However, all of his work has been done independently. Nevertheless, such assumption becomes not unreasonable once you watch the video of “Peanut Butter & Tears,” for example.
The transitions from childhood to adulthood and from present to past, the sensuous editing of the otherworldly overlaps, the lo-fi and unique CGI that pops in dream sequences that make you feel like you're in the middle of a dystopia, and the brilliant colors that change to match the background make it a truly immersive experience. Each intense and ecstatic sequence is interspersed with metaphorical references to IAN's struggle to understand his bipolar disorder. As such, DPR IAN doesn't just focus on the visuals but also tries to convey the narrative woven into the music through the visuals.
As a result, his music videos are often dramatic, short, intense, and cinematic. Take IU's recently released music video for “Shopper” for example. It’s like a musical caper. Set in a special shop that sells magical items, it's filled with colorful sequences of which some are reminiscent of the style of directors like Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Baz Luhrmann. IAN is the narrator who announces the beginning of the play, the facilitator of IU who steals the items and runs away, and the mastermind behind it all.
DPR IAN’s world of work is all-encompassing and sometimes avant-garde. Rather than trying to keep up with fast-moving trends, he does what he wants to do within his worldview. It's also a way of understanding and comforting his bipolar disorder. In the midst of it all, IAN is constantly asking questions: Who is the villain and who is the superhero? What is positive and what is negative? IAN doesn't give clear answers. Perhaps these are the questions that we have to keep facing as we encounter his work and people will seep into his music while unknowingly joining in the search for the answers.

while editing those IG lives [which rotted in my camera roll over a year now, and which i randomly found because i need more phone storage 🫣]
i realize how great of a human being ian is beside being a great artist and musician. Maybe some stans will be mad, but nowadays it‘s so hard to find a singer, especially an artist who has a clear intention in mind and which is not making a popular song or a hit and making lots of money with it. I love the way the DPR boys just make music for the vibes and feelings. Or as IAN mentioned it: so that people feel seen and understood, so that people heal through his music.
I‘m so grateful to be a part of their journey.

Oh this one is heartbreaking 😢😢😢!!
His music just inspired you to have fun and to chill from the stress of everyday life.
I’ve been to so many of Jimmy’s concerts over the years. They were always the best. Just so much fun starting with the tailgate parties. It really was an adventure in so many ways!!
One of my favorite memories of seeing Jimmy live was when he was added to one of Don Henley’s Walden Woods benefit concerts.
To see Don Henley (not exactly the most chill or relaxed person 😎) joining Jimmy on stage and sing Volcano was all kinds of awesome!
RIP Jimmy!!! You will be missed!!! I know there was a bucket of shrimp and a large margarita waiting for him at the pearly gates!!

game #3: share your top 5 current songs
tagged by @clutterbugs thank you emma!!! i feel like i get to use the free space in scrabble
1. Kiss in My Heart by Junk Fujiyama
i discovered this song a while back on a city pop playlist i think? and it’s been stuck in my head recently (even before indigo!) so i’ve been playing it. it’s just a fun happy song, it sounds like the artist is smiling as he’s singing it
2. ILLELLA by MAMAMOO
another super fun song and i didn’t think it was possible but i am gayer because of it. i have so many feelings about this i will have to hold myself back but i am v i b r a t i n g something’s about to break
3. girl like me by Blessing
this song is acoustic but i think also r&b influenced? i like how the lyrics are somewhat specific but the insecurity is she’s talking about is still super relatable to a lot of people and the singer’s voice is kind of unique
4. complex (demo) by Katie Gregson-MacLeod
this song is just kinda heartbreaking tbh at the end of the day it’s your typical woman trying to “save” a man who's too far gone to spare her a second thought story but the vocals really carry the emotion across in a way i don’t hear all the time so i think it’s worth a listen if you...want to feel sad
5. Ketchum, ID by Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus
i have been in a folksy mood lately and i think a few julien baker/phoebe bridgers/lucy daucus songs came up in my listening and that reminded me about this album. this is my favorite song from it. i think the line “i am never anywhere anywhere i go, when i’m home i’m never there long enough to know” is just really hitting for me rn? i also can’t get over how this is the last song on the album they ended the whole album with
BONUS GAME! i wasn’t tagged in this but i wanted to share this while i’m here in case anyone was interested in doing this for themselves. if you have spotify this bot will judge you for your music taste. it’s like the anti-spotify wrapped. this is what they had to say about mine:
i will tag @joon-rkive, @cheekyquokka, @mutedstring, @jinsquishes, @senor-hoberto and anyone who tagged me in one game but hasn’t been tagged in one of the others (does that make sense?). no pressure just if any of the games interest you 💕 feel free to ignore me!!!
#tag: i'm it!#cordiallyfuturedwight#wistfulocean#jiminsproof#blueside-hobi#seoksao#clutterbugs#joon-rkive#cheekyquokka#mutedstring#jinsquishes#senor-hoberto#i was relatively normal about this be proud of me please

🫧Lyrical Off🫧
Hello everyone, today I came in a different way!
I came to talk about a musical genre that caught my attention. The K–R&B.
*
🫧 What is an R&B?
The musical style Rhythm and Blues (or just R&B) originated in the United States around 1940. It became popular among black artists and is currently considered a subgenre with influences from soul, funk and hip-hop in pop music.
K–R&B (or just K–RnB) is the aforementioned musical style, however, made by Korean personalities, however, it is not a "rule" for songs to be sung in Korean. My favorite singer of this music genre is DPR IAN originally Christian Yu.Recently, he and his colleagues went on a world tour and even visited Brazil. In an emotional show, the singers of the company "DPR" (Dream Perfect Regime) showed that they have talent and know how to perform beautifully.
🫧 Other names in K-R&B:
We can also mention other names in this musical style, such as Gemini, Dean, Baekhyun (who is also a kpop idol), Jo Yuri, some songs by the singer BIBI, Eaj, Crush, DPR Live (Dabin), among other artists...
🫧 My opinion:
K–R&B is a musical style that still needs to be explored a lot, however, it has become one of my favorites. Always calming me down, K–RnB is a style for Soul, Jazz and Hip-hop lovers. I honestly really like the music.
🫧 Below will be a playlist with some songs of this musical style:
🩷> Thanks for reading! I know the content of the post is different from the usual, but I hope you like it... ^^
— A.

[Envimedia] HITC 2021 Lineup: The Complete Guide
by Crista Bardales, Elaine C. and T. Aquila
November 5, 2021
88rising’s annual festival, Head In The Clouds, is just around the corner! The festival celebrates Asian music, with a diverse group of rising and/or well-known stars. Here is our guide to this weekend’s Head In The Clouds 2021 lineup.
Day 1 (November 6, 2021)
DPR LIVE & DPR IAN Hong Da-Bin and Christian Yu, known best by their stage names DPR LIVE and DPR IAN, are part of the independent label Dream Perfect Regime. South Korean singer-rapper DPR LIVE debuted in 2017 with the EP Coming To You Live. He has since then released many songs that demonstrate his creativity and capability. Meanwhile, Korean-Australian singer and rapper DPR IAN is the founder, creative director, producer, and chief editor of DPR. In late 2020, he made his solo debut with “So Beautiful” and showed the world just how multifaceted he is. Both artists are notorious for their brilliant abilities and innovative artistry that continue to inspire a new generation of musicians.
CL CL is no stranger to the international music scene. She debuted as rapper of legendary K-pop group 2NE1 in 2009, where she achieved her first Billboard chart ranking. Since then, she has launched her own solo career, with hits including “The Baddest Female” and “Hello Bitches.” In 2018, CL participated in the Closing Ceremony for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where she performed her 2NE1 debut track, “Fire,” and “Hello Bitches.” This year marks a new page in CL’s journey. The rapper-songwriter returned with her first full-length album, ALPHA. The long-awaited album consists of 11 riveting and bold tracks, including singles “Spicy” and “Lover Like Me.” As an experienced performer, CL is ready to take the Head In The Clouds stage by storm.
Day 2 (November 7, 2021)
Feel Ghood Music (Tiger JK, Yoon Mi-Rae, BIZZY, BIBI) Four different musicians from the label Feel Ghood Music are set to perform this year at Head In The Clouds. South Korean singer-songwriter, BIBI, debuted on May 15, 2019, with her single “Binu” and has since made a name for herself while captivating listeners with her sleek vocals. Korean hip-hop group MFBTYconsists of some of the most respected rappers, Tiger JK, Yoon Mi-Rae, and Bizzy. After four years, they made a comeback in 2019 with the EP Dream Catcher. With their unique impact, MFBTY have a strong influence in the Korean hip-hop community.
eaJ eaJ is DAY6’s Jae moniker in his solo endeavors. Since 2020, the DAY6 vocalist and lead guitarist has ventured into his own singing-songwriting career, first releasing the song “LA TRAINS” on his YouTube channel. He then collaborated with other 88rising artists such as Rich Brian, keshi, and the latest being with Seori in “Dive with you.” Compared to his contribution to DAY6, eaJ is more stripped down and personal. With soulful ballads and poetic lyrics, eaJ has proved himself to be a soulful artist.
See You This Weekend, Head In The Clouds! Nothing beats a celebration that honors Asian culture and creativity. If you’d like to stream the festival from home, make sure to tune in this weekend! The Head In The Clouds 2021 lineup is guaranteed to serve incredible live performances.

Monsieur, Ellardo Drico.
Christian Yu (born 6 September 1990), known professionally as DPR Ian is an Australian singer, rapper, and director based in South Korea. He is a former member of Yedang Entertainment boy group C-Clown, which was active between 2012 and 2015. Yu made his solo debut under his co-founded label Dream Perfect Regime (DPR) with the digital single "So Beautiful" on 26 October 2020. His first studio album Moodswings in to Order was released on 29 July 2022. He was the 10th most streamed Kpop Male Solo Artist Globally on Spotify in 2022.
Yu debuted as the leader of K-pop group C-Clown under the stage name Rome, which was derived from his Korean name "Ba-rom". The 6-member boy group debuted in 2012 and was the first idol group created by entertainment agency Yedang Entertainment, which would later be renamed Banana Culture Entertainment. After C-Clown disbanded in October 2015, Yu along with Live, Cream, and REM established the label Dream Perfect Regime, all of whom attach the label's acronym—DPR—to their names. In 2021, he released his debut extended play Moodswings in This Order. He released his first studio album Moodswings In To Order in 2022.
Yu is behind the visual arts for the DPR crew and directs all DPR music videos such as Live's "Jasmine", "Legacy", and "Yellow Cab" along with his own songs, like "So Beautiful", "No Blueberries", and "Ballroom Extravaganza". He has also directed and edited music videos for artists outside of DPR including Bobby's "HOLUP", Mino's "Body", and Taeyang's "Wake Me Up". In 2020, DPR Ian appeared in the music video for "5 Stars" by CL. They also collaborated in "So Beautiful" and "No Blueberries" that year.
In 2021, DPR Ian and Live released the track "Diamonds + and Pearls" as part of the soundtrack to the Marvel Film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This marked the duo—along with fellow artists on the album—becoming two of the first Korean artists to participate in a Marvel soundtrack album. In 2024, DPR Ian directed and appears in the music video for "Shopper" by IU.

Got a lot of free time on my hands rn [who could say why...] so i put a bit of effort into this year's top 10 lists by which i mean i stole canva's assets for myself and rubbed my gay little hands all over them pls enjoy
absolutely did not have braincells for a proper movies/shows list this year but i will have a special shows-adjacent list out at... some point idk
Full lists along with notes/ramblings under the cut:
Favorite 2023 Album Drops
10. Cherish - Vacationer
9. Phone Orphans - Laura Veirs
8. Praise a Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds) - Yves Tumor / this album is gender and no i will not be offering further explanations at this time
7. Red Moon in Venus - Kali Uchis
6. My Big Day - Bombay Bicycle Club
5. Metro Boomin Presents Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - Metro Boomin, various artists / specifically the deluxe version which has some personal faves the og doesn't, like take it to the top and infamous
4. Unreal Unearth - Hozier
3. The Age of Pleasure - Janelle Monae / full disclosure this one is so high on this year's list because watching them perform this live did rewire my entire brain
2. The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We - Mitski
1. Javelin - Sufjan Stevens / the vinyl for this album comes with an art booklet made by Sufjan that includes 10 mini-essays about love, and reading them for the first time felt like putting my heart in a fucking blender. [you can also read them all here for free if you feel like doing that to yourself tonight]
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
SOS - SZA / the greatest mistake of my life was leaving SOS off my 2022 album list and it will forever haunt me. unfortunately it was also a big grower for me and was released too late in the year for me to realize its genius in time. can't put it on my 2023 list either but pls know it is number one album of the year. in my heart
Soft Machine - Arlo Parks / i think this could have ranked higher had i managed to get around to checking it out when it actually dropped but unfortunately my dumb ass didn't catch it until v late in the year so there you go
House of Groove - Roche Musique / compilation so technically there's a bunch of artists on this record, found this one a little late in the year but wanted to shout it out bc i really enjoyed every track i heard off of it, no small feat
Sorry I Haven't Called - Vagabon / i have no excuse or explanation for this exclusion, there were simply too many records i loved this year
Favorite 2023 Song Finds
(note: per tradition, not confined to 2023 releases, just bops i listened to for the first time this year)
10. So I Danced - DPR IAN (2023) / i forgot to include the year in the graphic and i am too lazy to change it soz
9. Angelina - Milo Korbenski (2021)
8. No Good - Young & Sick (2019)
7. Better Now - SebastiAn, Mayer Hawthorne (2019)
6. Liquid Love (Mr Jukes Remix) - Billie Marten (2021) / one of those remixes i like better than the og, and to be clear i like the og quite a lot. also as i was putting together this list i learned that Mr Jukes is actually the name of the solo project of Bombay Bicycle Club's lead singer so like the more you know!
5. Hair Receding - Xenia Rubinos (2013) / i heard this song for the first time in December which usually would put it at an unfair disadvantage compared to songs that i've had the full year to get attached to but listening to it shook my molecules so vigorously i had no choice but to put it on this list
4. Zero (JID Remix) - Newjeans (2023) / look i am fully aware this song is a blatant kpop ad for coke zero and the chorus literally translates to "coca-cola is tasty / coca-cola is tasty" but that doesn't mean it isn't a BOP. another remix i prefer to the og, i think jid's verse and subtle production tweaks really elevate it to something i never want to stop playing when it comes on
3. Been Thinkin' - Hikes (2019) / or: my most played song of the year! don't examine what this probably reveals about the state of my psyche too closely!
2. I'm Your Man - Mitski (2023)
1. Bruises - Angel Haze (2015) / though i was genuinely v surprised this one did not make it onto my spotify top 5, considering every time it came on this year a fugue state did overtake my whole body and did not dissipate until i had played it at least another four or five times

Baek almost pouts, but it’s not really his place to tell Hyoseop what he is good at or not. From his perspective, all his teammates are impressive when it comes to certain skills, and it’s no different from their talk now. He has a feeling they would go around in circles if Baek decided to counterpoint. He chuckles and nods his head, “that’s a deal then. Let’s improve a lot and show it off someday in the future,” he taps Hyoseop in the shoulder and smiles at him. Baek has the urge to laugh at their incredibly different approaches and how Baek is probably overthinking while Hyoseop’s idea seems to be a sound one. Showing improvement by singing a song that he has performed before was not something Baek thought about at all, but now that it had been brought up, maybe he could add that to his already long list. “Any Song is a very good pick, I really like that one,” he says and crosses his arms in front of him. “I always associate softer sounding songs with you, if I’m honest. I think you could pull off DPR Live’s Jasmine, for example.”
hyoseop still feels like he has a great amount of things to improve in, but he also has to remind himself how far he’s already come. when he joined legacy he was a mediocre rapper, he couldn’t sing nor could he dance. and sure he’s still not the world’s best rapper, dancer nor singer, but he’s improved a great deal, and he’ll keep improving a great deal. sometimes hyoseop questions himself, but he has to remember, legacy let him debut for a reason.
“i’m curious to see how much i’ve improved, you don’t really notice it till you look back at a long time ago. i wonder if i could find my audition for legacy somewhere, i’m curious about how i rapped back then” he chuckles, “how long have you been singing?”. he gives a nod “i’ll add that one to my list. oh look! i’ve already doubled my list, from one song to two” he giggles.
