ACottonSock's Sims 4 Mods Masterlist

I'm not well versed with The Sims 4, but after my recent video where I mentioned revisiting it after many years (like we're talking 2015/16), a few viewers asked me to put together my mods list because they want to enjoy Sims 4 too and had no idea where to start.

Last Updated: 12/17/24 - swapped out default eyes for the 'Atmospheric Eyes'. Added 'Auto Check Toddler & Infants Tweaks' by LittleMsSam.

CAS and Default Replacements

Body Hair Replacement (Luumia Edition): Replaces EA's terrible body hair textures with Luumia's textures.

Default Replacement Cutlery: Replaces the EA fork and spoon textures with nicer ones.

CAS Room - Plant Lover: Really pretty CAS background room.

Atmospheric Eyes: Default replacement eyes.

Remove EA Lashes: Removes EA's chunky eyelashes so I can overlay my pretty ones.

Cumulus Clouds: Overrides the default clouds in the sky to be a lot high texture and prettier. I use 'Alfsi_clouds_cumulus02_mesh'.

Cherry Tree Override: Replaces the default cherry tree to a better texture.

Luumia's Body Hair: Body hair that appears in the 'tattoo' category. Looks very realistic.

Luumia's Vanilla Skin Default: A nice smooth default replacement skin.

Popcorn Ceiling Default: Changes the ceiling texture to be the classic popcorn ceiling.

Stand Still in CAS: Stops the stupid animations when Sims fidget around in CAS.

More Columns in CAS (4 columns ver.): Adds more columns in the CAS catalogue.

CAS Modifiers Bugfix: Supposedly fixes the receding chin issue that appears when Sims age up in CAS.

Gameplay Mods

MC Command Center: Adds greater control to your Sims 4 game experience and NPC story progression options.

MC Woohoo: Allows various common Woohoo options to be available as settings.

Small Vegetarian Overhaul: "Vegetarian" no longer has to take up a personality slot in Create a Sim. Your sims can have all three of their precious personality traits and still be a vegetarian if they want to be.

Enlist in War: Adds a new self-interaction to Sims to allow them to enlist in a war.

More Layoffs: Increases the chance of a layoff happening to your Sim.

More Names Variety (+Expanded Random Names): If your sims visit Sulani, San Myshuno and Mt. Komorebi often, the game will generate sims to populate festivals, streets and to take part in activities. These townies do not get their names from the same list you have in CAS (randomized) but have separate lists of culturally appropriate names. These lists are short (some only 10 names long) and you may have noticed some repetition or have grown tired of seeing the same names over and over again.

Better Elders Mod: Adds new social interactions, social events, and gameplay options for elders.

Dental Care: Sims can get cavities, have bad breath, need and receive braces, toddlers can teeth and teens can have wisdom teeth extracted.

Divergent Sims: Focuses on neurodiversity, self-esteem, mental health, addiction, evaluation, and treatments. This includes a detailed variety of 25 anxiety, developmental, learning, mood, neurological, personality, body, eating, and mental health conditions affecting infants to elders as well as 4 addictions affecting young adults and older.

Eye Care: Adds basic eye care to your game. Regular eye exams, contacts, and eyeglasses can help identify and then mitigate these issues. Laser Eye Surgery is also an option for some conditions.

Career Day Overhaul: Adds many new features to the existing in-game events. (REQUIRES: High School Years and XML Injector)

Magic School: Adds a magic school like Hogwarts! (REQUIRES: XML Injector)

Extreme Violence: Like the name suggests, adds violence and many more deaths.

The Hopes & Fears Mod: Overhaul of the Wants & Fears system. (REQUIRES: Lot 51 Core Library and The Custom Wants Mod)

Dynamic Teen Life: Adds to and enhances the teen experience, introducing popularity, social groups, more after school activities, as well as additional entertainment, social, and dating opportunities. (REQUIRES: General Pie Menus, Shared Tuning, and Mood Pack)

Foster Family: Become a part of the LMS Foster Family Network and take care of Toddler, Children, Teens or Pets who are in need of a Foster Family.

Live in Business: Adds Lot Traits to the Game which lets you run Businesses at Home like Live in Bar, Club, Cáfe, Daycare and more. (REQUIRES: XML Injector)

More Buyable Venues and New Venue Types: Lets you buy more Venues and adds new Venue Types to the Game. (REQUIRES: Universal Venue List and XML Injector)

Online Learning System: Learn up to 41 Skills (incl. Vet & Hidden Skills) online via the Online Learning System (OLS).

Social Activities (Visit Friends, Family and more): This Mod adds Social Activities for your Sims to go to! (REQUIRES: XML Injector)

Auto-Zodiacs: Your sims now have zodiacs! This mods adds the 12 western zodiac signs to the game, and automatically adds them to babies when they are born.

LGBTQIA+: Gender & orientation Overhaul: Adds a ton of nuance to Sims' sexual and gender identity.

Delinquent Teens: Adds opportunities for teens to rebel and consequences for if they do ranging from being grounded, to in-school suspension, to probation, and more. (REQUIRES: General Pie Menus, Shared Tuning, and Mood Pack)

The Personality Mod: Each Primary trait costs 0 Satisfaction Points, so you can add the traits to newly created sims, straight out of Create-A-Sim. Secondary Traits cost 50 satisfaction points. (REQUIRES: Lot 51 Core Library and The Custom Wants Mod)

More Deadly/Intense Fire: Makes fires more hazardous.

Chat Pack - More Social Interactions: Adds more social interactions between Sims. (REQUIRES: XML Injector)

New Random Names: Bored when you look to a townie name or try randomizing it and it have the same name and last name all the time? This mod will help you with that!

Preteens: Introduces a new life stage between children and teens and a new school, depending on which version is installed, Middle School or Junior High School. (REQUIRES: General Pie Menus, Shared Tuning, and Mood Pack)

Meaningful Stories: Redesigns the mood and emotions system. This collection of changes big and small aims to allow your sims to feel more human, to make the events in their lives feel more meaningful, and to turn managing their lives into a more interesting challenge.

Autonomous Vampires UPDATED!: Changes the ask to be turned and offer to be turned to autonomous.

Teen's Cupid Corner: Adds Cupid's Corner for teens.

First Crush Preteens: Adds the ability to have first crushes. (REQUIRES: General Pie Menus, Shared Tuning, Preteens, and Mood Pack)

Teen Jobs Collection: 12 new careers for teens.

Vampiric Bloodlines: Adds vampire bloodlines. (REQUIRES: Trait Tracker Injector and XML Injector)

sims4me Trait Overhaul: Tweaks the existing traits to make them more meaningful. Sims will do better or worse in certain/all careers, at school and/or at university based on their traits. Traits will also influence autonomy and skill gain. They will moreover affect how well two Sims will get along with other Sims, this will also be affected by the other Sims mood and/or age.

Spend Weekend With: Send your Kids away to visit their Grandparents or other parent, or send your Teens away to stay with a friend for the Weekend.

Can I Come Over?: Want to visit a Friend but you can’t remember where they live? Too lazy to search all worlds for their lot? Send them a text and you may will get a text back to go and visit them with just a click!

Pregnancy and Baby Mods

Cherished Moments - Pregnancy: Adds over 15+ different Moodlets that can occur during appropriate & realistic pregnancy trimesters. (REQUIRES: XML Injector)

Relationship & Pregnancy Overhaul Collection: Adds an astounding amount of pregnancy and relationship options.

Child Birth Mod: Adds a ton of new pregnancy events and outcomes.

New Realistic Life & Pregnancy: Adds more family interactions, morning interactions, mean interactions, kids interaction, and more.

Fixes

Adults Get Crushes FIX: Allows Sims older than teens to develop crushes.

Carry Napping Toddlers to Bed: Adds three new interactions to put toddlers to bed available when they are napping. (REQUIRES: XML Injector)

Better Autonomous Homework: A, B and C Students should make their Homework autonomously now.

More traits for kids: Unlocks more traits for kids.

Meeting new siblings will change relationship: Adds a relationship change (and notification) when a sim meeting their new little brother/sister.

Break Up Whim / Want Fix: Sims who do not have family oriented trait will soon or later get break up whim if they are in relationship for a long time, even when the couples are soulmates. With this mod, Sims will NOT get break up whim unless their romance score is less than -10.

Dine Out Reloaded: Fixes a ton of Dine Out related features.

Simulation Unclogger by TURBODRIVER: Script that detects when a Sim causes the simulation to get stuck, rendering the game unplayable, and attempts to fix it.

Less Musical Chairs: Reduces the amount of moving around from chair to chair or place to place when sims are socializing with other sims.

No Standing Up to Greet: Stops Sims from standing up to greet. When seated, Sims will only greet each other by waving. They will still greet each other normally (i.e. hug) when both of the interacting Sims are standing.

Various Seating Fixes/Additions: Sims will now sit while watching musical, comedy and karaoke performances.

Auto Check Toddler & Infants Tweaks by LittleMsSam: Changed the Cooldown from 5 minutes to 60. Sims will now check on Toddler & Infants regularly when Motives are low (Hunger, Hygiene, Energy), Diapers need to be changed or when the Cooldown is over (To play with them, talk, teach Flashcards etc.)

Camera Mods

Live Mode and Tab Mode Fix: Fixes the annoying drift in tab mode.

Sliders

Luumia Sliders: Ear Presets, Ear Up/Down, Face Asymmetry, Fingers.

Luumia Sliders: Height, Hip Shape, Neck Height.

Pouty Lip Slider: Adds the pouty slider to a Sim in CAS.

Presets

Northern Siberia Winds: Adds a collection of preset noses, lips, eyes, ears, cheeks, etc.

Miiko Lips: Adds a collection of presets and overlays of lips.

Obscurus Nose Presets: Adds a collection of presets and overlays for your Sims.

Better In-Game Lighting (Dark Base): Changes lighting.

Sunblind: Realistic lighting overhaul.

Khippie 505 Terrain Replacements: Overrides EA's terrain textures, depth, contrast, and colours.

Khippie 202 Ground Replacements: Overrides EA's ground textures.

Khippie 707 Nature Replacements: Overrides trees.

Khippie 101 Builder Replacements: Overrides EAxis floors.

Adult mods (18+)

Basemental Drugs: Custom drugs, custom animations, altered walkstyles, altered moods, altered needs, come-ups, peaks, comedowns, hangovers, addiction, rehabilitation, and loads more.

Basemental Gangs: Adds gangs. Features rivalries between gangs, micromanaging your own gang members, use gang members as drug runners, run your operations through your own gang headquarters, exclusive new opportunities from your right hand man and much, much more.

Realistic Sims 3-4 Inspired Face Templates for the Sims 2! No More Long Faces!

I started playing the Sims 2 solely, about 2 years ago. Ever since, I like my Sims to have a certain facial proportion. I know some Sims 2 players like the long-face cartoony look of the sims in the Sims 2... but I personally don't. It inhibits me from making people that look real and unique imho. So behold! New DEFAULT face templates for the Sims 2! I made this for myself but I can share it here as well.

Features: 1. Inspired by different faces around the world. I wanted the faces to be as diverse as possible 2. No more gender differences! Maxis Face Templates makes it so that when you switch from Female to Male, the brows go sooo looww, the nose, chin and jaw gets soo big, and the lips become nonexistent basically. Well no more! (this took a lot of time to do) 3. All faces have the same proportions (same eye, nose, and chin height) so you can mix and match all of the faces and you won't end up with an unproportionate sim! 4. Includes default alien face template replacement as well! Watch Video for reference:

Before Installing: 1. Take any default face templates you currently have in your game if any. 2. Gonna look ugly if you make children with my face template and maxis'. The outcome is gonna look unproportional so don't do that Suggestions: 1. Use my cc skintones + Magic Theatre Eyes by CuriousB (Default). This is what I use, but feel free to experiment with other. 2. Remove all pre-made townies (video by PleasantSims) so that your game can generate new sims with my face templates 3. Download hair replacements since Maxis' hair has a high hairline. 4. Works best if you prefer to create your own custom neighborhood from scratch. Since Maxis neighborhoods have sims with the default long faces. 5. For better access of sliders and face templates, I would suggest to create Sims in BodyShop and not In-game 6. Credit to all the Simmers who've made custom face sliders! I wouldn’t have been able to make these without those sliders, and I suggest you download them here. 7. Download Treeag's Hider for Maxis Sims. Which hides the sims that Maxis created so that your CAS and Bodyshop will only have Sims that you've created yourself This has been one year in the making. When I started, the toddler and child face templates were royally messed up, so I had to painstakingly edit all 28, then, male and female sims look different so I had to manually change them all as well to eliminate all that. This took me months of not playing the game to finish making this. This is what I have been using in my game and so I'm just sharing it here in case anyone wants them as well.

J & M Legacy Home | Sims 2 Lot Download

This spacious home is built on a 4x3 lot and has a traditional look that incorporates modern touches with plenty of room for all. This lot is very lightly furnished and costs §109,656.

This lot was originally built as an upgraded house for a Legacy challenge family one of my kids was playing years ago--J and M are the initials of the founder, and his wife (who I'm pretty sure was Melissa Fancy). I've redone the upstairs, which required putting on a new roof, and I'm happy to say that for the moment I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Here's a look at the back. The white fence is a Maxis "Lost & Found" object. I'll pop a link near the lot download so you can grab it for your game too if you haven't already.

The lot looks awfully small for a legacy family you might say, and you'd be right! 🤣 I rebuilt the home on a smaller (4x3) lot so it would run faster and be more efficient for playing.

Let's take a look inside and see the floor plan! I'm using a default replacement for the Euro set porch railings so that they are plain white and don't have that ugly neon blue stripe on them. Along those same lines I've also got a default replacement for the Hydrangea shrub to make the eye-searing, neon blue flowers look more realistic. I'll have a link near the bottom of the post if you need to have them in your game too.

1st Floor: Clockwise from bottom left: Dining room, bathroom/laundry, kitchen, back entryway with office nook, family room/music room, entryway, stairs, and living room. Oh yeah, there's a garage in there too, but I bet you can pick out which space that is. 🤭

2nd Floor: Clockwise from bottom left: Master bedroom, master bathroom, kids room 1, bathroom, kids bedroom 2/nursery, kids bedroom 3, upstairs landing, and kids bedroom 4.

As usual, if you don't like something or it doesn't fit your style, tear it out and put something different in.

I’ve run this home through the Lot Compressor so any random references to sims that aren’t there should be removed. I have also run it through the Lot Cleaner to remove any bits of buggy code. This lot comes with a shiny custom thumbnail so it has even more curb appeal in your Lots and Houses bin! 😄

This home uses 3 pieces of CC which you may already have in your game. They can easily be replaced or omitted if you don’t want them though.

Default Face Presets Update (Heads, Mouths, Noses, Eyes) :

So I've been working on the presets and trying to find the perfect proportions for each category. I've currently finished re-doing all the eyes but I want to finish everything before I even upload anything.

EA Default Eyes Presets :

Current WIP of eye replacement :

Other than that....

The noses and mouths need a complete overhaul

For the mouths : Removing their permanent smiles and changing them a little + bonus mouth presets for bigger lips

The noses : Making them look less wonky and creating more realistic variations + Changing their height to match the V.2 heads

The heads will recieve more work than I thought it would need

For flavor 1 + 2 : Since I love using the facesmoothNormals slider, I'll more than likely make a flavor where that is present (or atleast see if that's possible)

For flavor 3 + 4 : For people who want less of a cheeky look to their sims, I might make a flavor where there's that reduced instead. + smoothfaceNormals with that as well (if it is possible)

If adding manually the smoothfaceNormals is not possible then It'll remain to 2 flavors.

To show exactly why I'm working so hard on these presets, here are some random generated sims with all the current presets in question + coupled with random sim fixes by LadyDuchess and Townies outfits by FloTheory.

I feel like they look better than what I'm used to seeing :)

SIM SUBMISSION RULES: There will be seven contestants, chosen on a first-come-first-serve basis (but you can reserve a spot by replying on my BC post).

All genders welcome! Kamon is bisexual ;)

YA-Adult only, please!

Only human sims, no occult… this time.

I have all the packs, so feel free to use traits/clothes/hair/etc. from any of them!

Must have at least 1 negative trait, and the romantic trait is not allowed.

You may have 3-5 CAS traits, as I have the “More Traits in CAS” mod!

If you don’t have the mod but want your sim to have 5 traits in my game, just let me know which 2 traits you’d like me to add!

You may have additional/bonus traits as well—just don’t go too cheat-y!

Must have likes & dislikes and turn-ons & turn-offs.

If you don’t have Lovestruck, feel free to tell me which turn-ons/offs you want and I’ll add them!

Feel free to give your sim a job for storytelling purposes, but note that I will have them quit that job for the duration of the challenge. Once the challenge is over, if your sim wins, I will have them pick up where they left off!

PLEASE go crazy with your sim’s background—I love to see people get creative!

Feel free to give your sim skills! Or you can tell me what their skills should be and I’ll set them :) Please keep them realistic to your sim’s background, and some limitations will be made:

You may only have one skill between 7-8

You may only have two additional skills between 4-6

You may only have six skills total above 2

No skill may go above 8

EXAMPLE: Baking 8, Logic 6, Handiness 5, Guitar 4, Knitting 3, Video Gaming 3, Wellness 2, Writing 1

Outfits aren’t required, but totally encouraged! You can find the outfit guidelines here. If you don’t want to dress up your sims, I can do it for you, but I’d love to see your lookbooks if you do!

CC is allowed, but maxis match/mix only. No alpha hairs, please! And please don’t include any default eyes/skin/etc., as I have my own. Presets are fine, but I have my own sliders, so please don’t include any of those in your download.

Updated: How I edit my sims 4 screenshots (night-time edition)

A more detailed editing tut so you can understand my process as it may help you, i edited this relatively quickly and usually spend about 1-2hrs editing something...so let's goo.....

Before taking screenshots:

Help yourself as much as you can in-game, I always make sure there is some sort of light source in my pictures or something interesting that I can add to enhance something already there

Understand good/bad composition and add variety by using different angles

I take LOTS of photos just to end up with 1 or 2 good ones

I'll just be using photoshop for this, but i also like to use the procreate app as i'm more confident w it.

step1: I check if there are any major glitches or hard areas e.g, fingers elbows etc.. that have sharp points and pull them in liquify so they are smooth. Then use curves to change the contrast.

step2: *duplicates image* using the dodge and burn tools (keyboard shortcut: o ) i'll add emphasis to highlights and shadows (be careful with these as the dodge tool can ruin the image if used in excess) *merges image* (i duplicate and merge as i go, utilise using lots of layers so you can go back if you mess up/ want to change the opacity of an effect.)

step3: making light sources POP. *new layer* change blending mode to overlay or soft light and choose a colour you like.

step4: *new layer* draw hair strands. i just use a basic round brush in photoshop and change the hardness or i'll use a sharp caligraphy type brush depending on my sims hair type. (i try not to overdo it as i like maxis hair and don't want it to look too realistic)

step5: i would then add a new layer and set the blending mode to multiply to add more shadows, but i don't feel like i need to at this point.

step6: *duplicates image* go to filter > camera raw filter, i change the "light" and "curve" panels, i like green tints in my screenshots especially the night ones. (this is where all the magic happens really so just adjust all the channels to your liking, lightroom is also really good to use)

step7: *create new layer* blending mode: screen or linear dodge (add) / makeup and finishing touches! - for this look i'll get stars and glitter pngs off google or unsplash same for the smoke, though if i'm using procreate they have free brushes for that :')

step8: add light leaks as they add some fun dynamic lighting and textures to your screenshots. (i also flip my image horizantally [image > image rotation > flip canvas horizontally] whilst editing as it's like a "fresh pair of eyes" when you've been editing for a while so you can see what looks off)

final step: merge all the layers (though i do merge along the way once i'm happy with something) go to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen. I leave it as the default setting.

extra step if u want: for party pics i might add chromic abberation here is a 60 second tutorial on youtube it makes the pic look cool and trippy.

(yes, bad previews are my specialty) omg breaking news everybody. i think i finally made a skin & eye set i'm full in love with (and will probably change my mind in a couple weeks but wtv). realistic but not shiny, maxis match yet can fit an alpha game too! and eyes that have a soul! The skin: It's just skin! comes in the 4 maxis defaults + 2 extra swatches, this is basically @withlovefromsimtown birthday suit, with ephermera's waterline, lips and eyelids from @lilith-sims's honey honey skinblend & @sixfootsims's teeth. i also tried my best to deal with the pixelation on some of the darker tones! for people wanting supernaturals, i use: lifa's og for genie, the honey honey zombie and @alanna-goth's wisteria galaxy quest recolor. (bless her, she helped me a lot with this project). Download the Skin.

the eyes: basically just @microscotch's lobster eyes but with most of the highlights painted out by me. 5 natural tones, 1 alien default & 1 vampire default. named bailando bc of the song i was listening to while making these. You Made Sims of Us? (fluff) 🩷

It started innocently.

You wandered into the living room one night, snack in hand, and found Alex on the couch, controller in hand, eyes locked on The Sims 4.

You flopped down beside him. “Seriously? The Sims?”

Alex shrugged without looking away. “It’s relaxing.”

Your eyes narrowed. “Hold up. That sim… That’s me.”

“Huh?” he asked, way too casually.

You pointed at the screen. “That’s literally me. Same hair, same hoodie, same combat black boots I’ve had since college.”

He didn’t even flinch. “We live together. It made sense.”

You blinked. “And that other sim?”

“Who?”

You stared at him.

He stared at the TV.

“Oh my god,” you laughed. “That’s you.”

Alex gave a shrug like it was no big deal. “I just made us roommates, okay? Realistic household. No big.”

You watched for another minute—Sim You and Sim Him chatting, cooking together, flirting unprompted—

And then the Sims kissed. And vanished into a bedroom. The “WooHoo” jingle played cheerfully.

Your jaw dropped. “Did they just—?!”

“I—it’s not—sometimes they do that, okay? I didn’t tell them to—”

You laughed so hard you almost choked. He was pink and stammering and fumbling with the controller like it would erase what just happened.

You raised an eyebrow. “You sure it’s autonomous?”

“Yes,” he muttered. “Totally. Autonomous. They’re just… vibing.”

You let it go. Smirked. Let him squirm.

For now.

[Six Months Later]

It was raining out, and you’d gotten home early. The apartment was quiet—no sign of Alex, but his laptop was open on the coffee table, game still running.

And on the screen?

Your Sims.

Still together. Still domestic.

But now the house was bigger. Fancier.

You leaned closer.

There were children.

No.

Teenagers.

You squinted. “What the hell.”

You clicked around. The family tree opened.

Three kids. Two grandkids. A dog named Butterscotch. Married for 40 Sim years.

Your actual soul left your body.

The front door opened behind you.

“Hey—oh shit,” Alex froze mid-step, eyes locking on the screen. “Don’t—uh—don’t touch anything, I was in the middle of—”

“Grandkids?!”

He paled.

You turned to him slowly, stunned. “They’re married. They had babies, Alex. They have grandbabies. What part of that is autonomous?”

He opened his mouth. Closed it.

“I just—”

You pointed an accusatory finger. “You named the dog Butterscotch. That is not default-generated energy.”

“It’s a good name!”

“Alex.”

“…Okay, maybe I got a little into it.”

You stared at him. “You simulated an entire marriage. You planned a family. You gave us matching Christmas pajamas.”

“That was a free expansion pack!”

You blinked.

He fidgeted, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s not like I’m—y’know. Delusional.”

You raised a brow.

He sighed, finally cracking. “Okay, maybe I am. But it’s not like I meant for it to turn into a whole fake life or whatever. It just… happened. I liked the idea of it.”

You were quiet for a moment.

Then: “So… you’re in love with me or something?”

Alex opened his mouth to respond—then stopped.

His ears turned bright red.

“…No comment.”

After The Grandkid Reveal, you did not let him live.

Every time he said something remotely domestic, you were on it.

“You making dinner tonight or should I call our Sims and ask what’s on the meal plan?”

“Oh, are you vacuuming? You’re such a provider, Alex.”

“God, I’m tired. Good thing my Sim husband gives me back rubs before bed.”

Every time, he’d groan. “Oh my god, stop bringing them up!”

But he never actually told you to stop. And he never stopped playing.

You’d catch him on the couch, fully focused, tongue between his teeth, building a nursery or decorating the backyard for a Sim kid’s birthday party. Sometimes he’d pause when you entered the room — like he didn’t want you to see what version of you was laughing on screen.

But today?

Today he didn’t hear you.

You were quiet — standing in the doorway, watching as he added new furniture to the living room. Sim You was painting by the window. Sim Him walked past and kissed her on the cheek.

Your chest did something weird.

Because it wasn’t funny anymore. It wasn’t even teasing.

It was… sweet.

You stepped closer. Still quiet.

He was humming a little under his breath, scrolling through color swatches for curtains, adjusting the rug placement.

And then, out of nowhere, you asked:

“…Why’d you keep it going?”

Alex jumped a mile in the air.

“Jesus—! How long have you been standing there?!”

You crossed your arms, leaning against the wall. “Long enough to see you’re giving our Sims a sunroom and matching coffee mugs.”

He flushed deep. “It’s—just for fun.”

“You redecorated their bedroom.”

He squirmed. “They’ve been together a long time. They deserve a refresh.”

You took a step closer.

“Alex,” you said gently. “You could’ve stopped at roommates. But you kept playing. You made them fall in love. You planned birthdays. You raised grandkids.”

He looked down, hands gripping the controller. “I know.”

“Why?”

He didn’t answer right away.

Then — soft, barely audible:

“Because it’s the only place I get to have you like that.”

The air went still.

Your heart thudded once, heavy in your chest.

“…Alex.”

He laughed, but it was tired. A little bitter. “You’re my best friend. And I love that. But I just—wanted to see what it would be like. If it was more.”

You didn’t say anything for a long moment.

Then you sat beside him.

Watched the Sims walk hand in hand down their fake little hallway.

“Hey,” you said quietly.

He looked at you.

“I’d be okay with seeing what it’s like, too.”

His whole face froze.

“You would?”

You smiled. “Yeah. I mean… you already proposed in The Sims. Seems like a waste not to at least go on a real date first.”

He blinked. “Holy shit.”

You bumped your shoulder into his. “Don’t freak out.”

“I’m freaking out.”

“You’re doing great.”
