The 1500s was a century of innovation when it came to hairstyles, with the introduction of both metal hair pins (1545) and wigs (1572). These pins were used to hold wires and pads in place that essentially acted as scaffolding for the shaped hairstyles popular during this period. The religious modesty of previous centuries was cast aside for the first time, with young married women now uncovering their tresses. The ideal hair was curly and fair or red, a fad influenced by British monarch Queen Elizabeth I. CC links and reference images under the cut.

i really wanted to do something special for black history month by collaborating with another black free cc creator so i teamed up with the incredible @yuyulie to create the folasade collection! named after the wonderful folasade “sade” adu, the folasade collection is an earthy, bohemian, and neo-soul inspired collection with 10 items that are perfect for your nature loving, free-spirited, and eclectic sims! pls download yuyulie’s side HERE (it’s amazing!!)

for this collection, i created 3 different braided hairstyles (10 versions in total): the imani double braided buns (3 versions), amala high braided ponytails (3 versions), and the maliyah afro with a braided front (4 versions). each hair has a version (v1) without the side braids, a version (v2) that is compatible with yuyulie’s beautifully designed hair beads that can be found in the piercing section, and a version (v3) that has the side braids but with the base game wooden beads. the maliyah afro has an extra version (v4) that is a fuller and slightly larger version of the v1 afro. enjoy! 🫶🏾

remember that time cakeforcupecake got criticized for mostly having east asian sims on her tumbnails for cc hairs and suddenly on juneteenth of last year she dropped a free set of black hairstyles? some people just need time to learn to make different cc pieces. she even apologized for not making black hairstyles sooner saying she thought it would look really badly made.

I'm gonna be honest nonny I don't know who this is. Are they a paywaller?

Re: the difficulty of different hair types though, it varies by the specific edit to me. Different sizes of afros? Just as easy to do as making a straight hair slightly shorter. Frankenmeshing puffs onto a different base? Just as easy as putting straight space buns on a different straight hair base. More advanced styles are of course more complicated/difficult, but you could say the same about intricate hairstyles with straight hair types.

I think it's less knowledge & ability that's the main factor and more desirability and (in paid situations) marketability. Black cc creators have been making black hairs since game release, with the same amount of creation knowledge as everyone else at the time, because that's what they wanted to make and have in their game. I mean, leeleesims1 for example was making black hairstyle mesh edits from every pack all the way back to like the first expansion. Sheabuttyr, simtric, qwertysims, dbasiasimblr, shespeakssimlish, xmiramira, ebonixsims, and plenty of others made them since like 2016 or before. If the desire was there, anyone else could too. It's not like the Art of Black Hairstyles in Sims 4 was some forbidden knowledge passed around between a select few or something. If you wanted to make it, you'd figure out how to make it, with the same methods as everyone else. And if you tried, you'd find out quick that there's a similar range of difficulty in making black hairstyles as there is with other hair types.

I know that some hairs, like intricate braids and ones with difficult to translate textures, are hard. But I find it interesting how suddenly the excuse of every cc creator is that black hairstyles, as a whole, are just too damn difficult for them to even try to attempt. That they need to dedicate a bunch of time to taking some intensive college course on cc making before they can even try. Not just the most complicated styles, but all black hairstyles are beyond any average non-black cc creators' abilities. Like... I'm sorry, but they're not. They just don't want to, whether it's because it's not interesting to them or because they don't find it profitable, and it's just easier to say it's too hard to do.

It's okay not to know how to do things. It's okay to take time to learn. And hell, no one has to make ANY cc if they don't want to. But to openly dismiss the countless varieties of hairstyles of an entire race as too difficult, when you're savvy enough with creating to have made many other cc hairstyles, is silly. And lazy. And, well... ignorant.

I have got to give up my obsession with realism, lol. I rounded up my favorite Sims 4 Infant hairs, and while most of them would never ever been seen on an IRL 8 month old, that doesn't mean my Sim nooboos won't be sporting them.
