The Sims 4 New Game Patch (January 14th, 2025)

EA has shared the patch notes for an upcoming game update, scheduled to drop today (January 14th) at 10am PST.

If you have auto updates enabled in Origin’s “Application Settings”, the game will auto-update once you open Origin. If you have auto-updates disabled, you will need to manually update by clicking the game in your library.Advertisement

To ensure your game is up to date, check the game version found in Documents > EA > The Sims 4 > GameVersion.txt. Your game should now read: PC: 1.112.481.1030 / Mac: 1.112.481.1230; Console: 2.05.

At 10 AM PST, the first update of the new year will begin to roll out bringing a range of improvements from a brand-new Main Menu to memory and performance optimizations, a refresh of the base game homes, and a few bug fixes.

What’s New in The Sims 4 ?

Base Game Updates

Main Menu Visual Refresh

To start off with, we have a brand-new Main Menu visual refresh! We’ve pushed aside the clutter to make space for your Sims! New Game / Resume Game has moved from right to left, as have a few of the other navigation options. Home, Events and Store can be found at the top, along with the Options panel in the far right. It may take a moment to get used to the New Game / Resume Game new location, I know it took a moment for some of us. A few other changes to mention:

The visual update includes a bit of fresh paint, a little less clutter, with the desire to keep information clear and discoverable for you!

The Sims in the center are your last played household Sims, all of them!

And important updates and information from The Sims are focused on the right side.

Speaking of the Main Menu, you’ll receive a message about the upcoming Blast from The Past Event.

Starting on February 4th, this birthday event will feature rewards inspired by iconic items from the 2000s, such as a milk carton, telephone, alarm clock, triple-tiered birthday cake, and inflatable chair and loveseat.Advertisement

Performance and Memory Improvements

Smoother Gameplay

We’ve optimized mouse movements, preventing slowdowns and making gameplay more responsive on PC, Console, and Mac.

Improved Graphics and Performance – On Mac and PS4, we’ve optimized how graphic data is handled, resulting in smoother and more efficient rendering and overall performance.

Memory Efficiency

Various enhancements have been made to save memory across all platforms, helping the game run more smoothly and reducing crashes.

Base Game Townie Home Refresh

New year, new homes! All Townie Homes in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs have been updated and renovated to breathe some fresh life into classic lots.

Willow Creek Homes: Cypress Terrace, Ophelia Villa, Pique Hearth, Garden Essence

Oasis Springs Homes: Sultry Springside, Affluista Mansion, Cacti Casa, Slipshod Mesquite

Both the Legacy and Updated Lots are automatically available in the “My Library” tab.

New Saves

Players who start a New Game will automatically see the updated lots in the world!

Existing Saves

Players who would like to see the update in their existing saves must manually update the homes by placing the new lots from the “My Library” tab.

Bug Fixes

Console

Potion Color Issue on Consoles – Fixed a bug where potion colors in cauldrons would change to gray after loading a saved game.

Texture Reloading Optimization – Improved the texture reloading process on Xbox One to reduce “out-of-memory” crashes, and providing more efficient loading of game lots.

Base Game:

[AHQ] Fullscreen Minimization Fix

We resolved an issue where you couldn’t minimize the game in Fullscreen mode using DirectX 11. Now, key combinations like Alt + Tab and the Windows key will work as expected.

“Work in Off hours” interaction does not clear the Tense buff for workaholic Sim.

[AHQ] Fixed cases of really high Bills. Lot Taxes will now only count the property value and household_net_worth not add value from anything in inventories.

[AHQ] “Try for baby” in shower will now fill the Hygiene motive.

[AHQ] Inspired Sim will no longer mix drinks excessively.

Discomfort Relief Value is no longer missing for Bath tubs.

“Purchase Garlic Seeds“ has its own interaction and should be categorized/available under the “Purchase Seeds“ interaction.

[AHQ] Outgoing and Socially Awkward traits cannot be selected together. If one is selected, the other will appear greyed out and cannot be chosen.

[AHQ] Female frame facial hair on Male Sims will no longer disappear.

[AHQ] Shoes are now replaced with barefoot when a Styled Look with barefoot is applied.

[AHQ] Neon signs no longer break due to rain.

[AHQ] Water puddle VFX animation will no longer appear on the ground floor when Sim is swimming on the second floor.

“Revive” is now available on a dead Cowplant.

Ponds properly display water textures in Map View.

Comfort Value attribute is no longer missing for Toilet objects.

Affecting Multiple Packs

[AHQ] Sims’ weight and muscle levels are now properly affected by Bike Riding, Horse Riding, Jog here and Rock Climbing.

[AHQ] Thumbnails of Guidry and Temperance Sim are visible in relationship panel, Sims profile, Manage HH.

Sim no longer has the option to give the toddler fertilizer as food from inventory.

[AHQ] Sim can now set the waffle/pizza oven/stand mixer for sale in a retail store.

“Invite to Hangout at Current Lot“ interaction is no longer available for Infants in the Sim profile.

Get Together

Clubs are now under the default section under the social groups interface.

City Living

[AHQ] “Play with emotion“ interaction is now greyed out when the piano keyboard breaks.

Cats & Dogs

[AHQ] Dog and Cats with the fire obsession perk are far less obsessed with the fireplace.

[AHQ] Sims no longer gain Fitness skill when cleaning the litter box.

Discover University

[AHQ] Sim with the Gym Rat trait will no longer lose hygiene while juggling a soccer ball.

[AHQ] Frequency of getting electrocuted from Robotic Workstation has been considerably reduced.

Eco Lifestyle

[AHQ] Roaches are removed from the dumpster after Sim successfully performs the “Try to clear roaches” interaction.

Snowy Escape

[AHQ] Seaweed Ramen recipe is now available from the fridge cooking menu.

Sim’s Hygiene motive will now increase when using a Hot Spring.

Cottage Living

[AHQ] Sims can now use Hot Pot with the Simple Living Lot Challenge.

High School Years

[AHQ] When Sims switch from an outfit created in Thriftea to a regular outfit, they no longer revert back to the Thriftea outfit when showering/bathing.

[AHQ] Notification badges no longer displayed when phone is in silent mode and when Social Bunny has notifications turned off.

[AHQ] Bronze prom reward now unlocks correctly in B/B catalogue.

“Hide from Paparazzi“ interaction is available for Sims with Fame level 3 and below.

Growing Together

[AHQ] Fixed an issue where some Life Milestones wouldn’t be achieved when the Sim is off lot,, including milestones for toddlers’ movement skill.

Horse Ranch

[AHQ] ‘Drink an Aged Nectar’ Want fulfils when Sim drinks the aged nectar bottle

For Rent

[AHQ] A serving of Vegetable Chili from the Pressure Cooker will no longer turn into 8 servings.

Spa Day

[AHQ] Applied Pedicure will no longer vanish when a Manicure is requested.

Sparkling Water is now available under the “Fizzy” category.

[AHQ] In new saves Sim will no longer receive “Baby whisked away” buff and TNS suggesting that Rattigan passed away when Rattigan is still alive.

Can't believe how long this set took for some reason... Anyway, hi, today I'm bringing you 114 face tattoos! They are all available for TU-EU sims. You can find them in the blush category, and they are divided into layer groups, meaning that your sim can have as many tattoos as you want as long as they don't overlap.

I wasn't sure if blush is the perfect place for them since it's usually cluttered with stuff, but my other option was face paint, which, as far as I'm aware, doesn't normally have custom thumbnails. Which could maybe be changed just like with accessories, but that doesn't show up in Bodyshop anyway, does it? And I would really like for it to be easily accessible in Bodyshop, so. Didn't look into overlay boxes here for the same reason, but maybe it would be a cool wip :)

There's a couple of tats that didn't make the cut, but almost all of them did. Some were separated, some were moved a bit. The textures only work in the face zone, so some of them look a little bit chewed on because they were originally intended to cover the scalp as well. Nothing too extreme tho.

Of course, everything is tooltipped, compressed, and has cute previews. I also tried my best to give all the files clear names because I love when everything is labeled. Important note: when I labeled a tattoo as left or right, I meant the way a sim would see it from their own perspective. Sorry if it's a bit of a mindfuck, just made more sense to me personally, lol.

Credits: aside from the creators that made all of this really cool stuff, I also want to really thank Lifa for their wonderful Birthday Suit skintones that I used in all the in-game previews, specifically the original and the colorful ones (mostly Zodiac, lol). And, of course, The Tattooer, a stunning tool that made it all possible.

Just trying to have a simple day in town for this story, but this lot I’m trying to use is giving me hell. I think it’s too big and cluttered for my ancient computer to deal, and it keeps crashing. Might have to set it on fire and start over from scratch.

And now it’s almost 4:00 pm on a Friday, which means it’s a weekend full of plans and stuff (fall festival, pumpkin patch, lots of DIY around the house, and my son’s 5th birthday!), so see y’all next week, I guess, lol!

As a consolation prize, here, have a sweet picture of Adam and Heather Thompson (Ingrid, Ian, & Laney’s parents) who have one of the strongest marriages in my game. They’ve been together since TS2, back when they were two post-grad knowledge sims who used to go on dates to the graveyard because they wanted to see a ghost together, then they would get busy in the mausoleum while they waited. Always keeping it spicy, always rolling wishes for each other. 30 years and counting. I bet they’d like some grandbabies, but none of their kids seem especially ready to give up some spawn, lol!

I always like to try things I've never done before so I set out to do the packaging and design of Langa and Reki's Eau de Toilette, but I'll start by showing the design of the Langa one. This is an experimental render, I've tried to make a photorealism with my current Blender skills. The Love Again text on packaging can only be understood if you read story of Reki's birthday 2022 that we wrote and publish about our sims 4 gameplay last year.

I made this with Blender and Photoshop for Reki's birthday that Lea (@lea-heartscxiv) and I celebrated on August 8th, 2022 on our Sims 4 gameplay which was converted there for use as a pose and clutter, where Langa asked ADAM, Cherry and Joe to help him to make happen something special that he wanted to present to Reki for his birthday. (Preview of his birthday and End of his birthday, it will be too on our Blogger in English and Spanish).

When I'll finish make packaging and design of ADAM, Cherry blossom and Joe Eau de Toilette, I will make too shape of all their bottle glass (Reki, Langa, ADAM, Cherry blossom and Joe) to try out different techniques with Blender and make different textures with nodes.

January 22, 2025: Stepping Back

On my 36th birthday, I gave myself a gift I didn’t know I needed—a moment to step back.

I’ve been feeling it for a while now. The weight of always showing up. The pressure to keep creating. The constant buzz of social media pulling at me to be on all the time. It’s been a lot, and somewhere in the middle of it all, I started to lose track of why I was doing any of it in the first place.

So, on January 22, I decided to pause. Not quit, not give up—just step back. For myself. For my family. For my peace.

Right now, my focus is on setting a clear boundaries of saying no, it’s above me now, that does move my soul and clearing the clutter, both in my mind and in my life. I want to get organized, slow down, and work on something I truly love without any deadlines looming over me. That something is Journey to Lore, the Sims 4 challenge I’ve been quietly building for what feels like forever.

Journey to Lore is my way of finding joy again. It’s immersive and creative, and it feels so personal to me. It’s not just about playing a game; it’s about telling a story, documenting a legacy, and creating something meaningful. And I want to take my time with it.

But there’s another piece to this, too—the chaos of social media has been draining. The 15-second TikTok ban and the political circus have only added to my exhaustion. I’m tired of the rat race, the propaganda, and the performative antics. I even tried Rednote, and while it was nice, I realized I’m just done.

If it’s not YouTube, Tumblr, or Pinterest, it’s not for me. No more TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook. I already stopped using Twitter (or Elon’s Musky Diary, as I like to call it) long ago and switched to BlueSky, but even that’s on hold now. All I want is to watch what I enjoy on YouTube, post little shorts here and there when I feel like it, and continue this journey in peace. I want to focus on making my Notion dashboard, updating myself with random Tumblr diary entries, and fleshing out my Pinterest boards.

I’m breaking out of this matrix and doing things my way—peacefully.

Tumblr has always felt like a safe space for me. It’s where I first started sharing bits of my Sims gameplay, even if it was just a few posts here and there. It feels fitting to come back here now, not to make a big announcement, but just to document where I’m at. Like a diary entry. Something to remind myself of this moment when I decided to stop, breathe, and refocus.

This year, I’m stepping back from the noise and leaning into what makes me happy. I don’t have a timeline or a plan, just a deep need to create for myself again.

Here’s to slowing down, to organizing, and to rediscovering the joy of the process.

Until then, it’s just me, my Sims, and the stories I want to tell.

So here’s to stepping back, re-centering, and embracing this quiet phase of preparation. I’m not rushing to show up for anyone but myself and my immediate family right now. I’m trusting the process, organizing my ideas, and pouring my energy into building something meaningful—one small step at a time.

✨ My CC Lamps: I have an issue with my vertex paintbrush, which tells an object where to illuminate and where to have no light. My lamp CC looks best in game when the brightness is turned down on the lamp. Also, until I figure this out, anyone is welcome to add vertex paint to any of them, I would update the file and put a credit in the file and posts. ✨ ACNH Bed Conversions: People asked me if I could make these functional, & I tried. The meshes for these items do not allow them to work with the animations in TS4 properly. They are made with the BG cot as the base item, and the Sims will sleep on top of them, but not under a blanket (with the exception of a couple of them where I could use the EA mattress without taking away too much from the look of the item it is supposed to be).

I do not use DX11 with my game. If you are using DX11, run the DX11 batch fix with Sims 4 Studio before starting your game. For those that have never done it, do not fear for it is very simple and will update any CC in your mods folder that needed it. I know the new DX11 API causes issues having something to do with the wall items, that I know of. If you do not have Sims 4 Studio, here is a link about how to install it from their official website. And of course, if you need help please send me a message.

✨ I remove my timezone reblogs after approximately 24 hours, in order to keep my Tumblr neat, to allow easy CC shopping for the people who like to scroll. All original CC posts stay put. (see bottom of this post for links to other kinds of posts). Continuous scrolling is turned off, so if anyone is going back chronologically, they can note where they left off if they take a break, as I like to do myself when perusing a creator’s catalogue who has made lots of CC.

i am in love with modders.

i know that it’s something that many people have said before but i’m emotional right now and i wanna talk a bit about this.

modders have gotten me back to playing games and enjoying them

because that’s the thing: it’s been a while since i’ve found gaming actually enjoyable. there are plenty of things that contribute to this, some of them are the developer’s fault and some aren’t, and, before i got into adding mods to the game, i stopped playing.

this rant starts with minecraft.

i’ve been playing minecraft for nearly a decade now. but i’ve always found it stressful not knowing the recipes for the items i wanted to craft. i would spend days in the mine and still go to a crafting table and find the menu too confusing. i would open too many wiki pages to play a single game, and it stressed me out so much i stopped playing.

what did i do? install jei. changed my gameplay entirely, and made me want to actually play the game. and it wasn’t only jei.

oh i want furniture that my character can actually use, because i want my shitty house to be pretty on the inside and i hate doing my own furniture? install the furniture mod. oh i find this texture super weird and want it to be less bright? there’s a texture pack for that. oh this update made it super hard to find coal, and i need coal more than i need this useless copper? there’s a texture pack that gives you x-ray vision, so you don’t have to worry about that. i wish there were more crops? here’s a mod with more crops for you. oh i wish i could cook like a real person? don’t worry, there’s a mod for that.

then i went on a spiral. games that i found boring for years suddenly took another turn.

the sims 4 is one of the games i have modded the shit out of. 

oh the new pack is broken? there’s a mod that fixes that. oh i want realistic bills and banks? there’s a mod for that. i want some more furniture, because i think the game should have more bed options and more clutter? there are cc creators for that, blessing me with their content. oh there are no cars in this game? there’s a mod for that!

soon, tasks i hated were so fun. i began building more, playing the game more, wanting to personalize everything.

and the game that surprised me the most with mods is stardew valley.

gone are the dozens of wiki pages i had to open every time i wanted to play the game. gone are the excel sheets of items i have gotten for the community center and the items i didn’t. gone are the constant worries about birthdays. gone is the frustration of having to manually turn my character over during combat. gone are my worries about my animals being petted or not, the fence decay, the friendship decay.

gone is the constant gender dysphoria over being misgendered over and over and over by a game that only gave me two gender options and no pronoun customization.

i used to find stardew super fun, and i often heard that it doesn’t need mods, because there is so much to it. but i underestimated how much i needed those quality of life improvements, how much those new features would change the game entirely for me.

and, after years of not playing stardew valley, i picked up the game again, recently. i can’t stop playing. i want to play all the time. it’s so fun!

and i have to thank those modders. i have to thank them for making me so happy about things, for creating tools and resources that allow me to enjoy those games again. i feel in love with gaming all over again because of you. <3

Hii! What is your favorite clutter? Like plants, magazines/books or random stuff?

hi! so if i’m being honest...I don’t really use that much clutter in my game. I typically just download the big CC build buy sets and use whatever comes in there. but there are a few items that I do use regularly -- see my list below the cut.

Dockscombe House: now furnished! Someone requested I post the furnished version of Dockscombe House so I did my best!  I decorated this initially to move my simself and my best friend’s simself into, so if you’re going hmmmm, this seems like two modern twenty-something queer women’s pet-and-plant-filled fantasy of a country house, there you are. If your game says there’s CC missing and you’re sure you have everything I listed here, please let me know so I can figure it out.
