Is monhun stories any good?
1 definitely is, love that game to bits. The designs of every monster when they hatch are So Fucking Cute, you got a lotta options on who you wanna take with you (maybe a lil less since they also help with traversal), and like any good monster raising game you can make your pookie work if you want it bad enough. Apothonoth VS. Rajang, I believe in him.
The supers for each of em are also just filled with charm, some of em being cool like the Rath supers, being as blunt as a rock like the Bulldromes super, Khezu, or the goofy shit with the Azuros or Kut Ku super. I'd recommend looking up footage of em just to see.
The only downside (aside from Navirou, we aren't going to talk about him in this ask) is that some monsters are locked until you go through the story a bit. Except you can find and hatch em right here. Lemme hug my buppy tigrex. Lemme rub his tummyyy.

Midnight Striga: Fairy Tail/Owl House Cross Fic Episode 5 Part 7
Once more, I arrive, with Midnight Striga in tow!! Everybody Clap Your Hands!!
Boyd was utterly bored. Groaning, he slung his knife, Radical Chop, over his shoulder, lightly kicking the twitching corpse next to him, one of Reticulus’ leftovers. Those were never fun to deal with, ‘cause they were already dead! What was the point of a killer guarding a corpse, instead of, you know, killing? Eh, maybe he could practice his mutilations, he had been getting a little rusty in that regard. Humming to himself, he slung the ragged body beneath his feet into an upright position; a girl from the looks of it, brown hair styled into three rings on the top of her head, her left eye gouged out, and missing her tongue. Glancing down he saw that her heart and stomach had been extracted. By his estimate, he’d say she was about 12, verging on 13. Ah man, he could’ve had such fun with her!
Sighing, he twirled his knife before pointing the tip towards her. The knife lengthened, stretched, and bent, contouring around the edges of her face, slowly and cleanly skinning off the layer of tissue. If only that eye wasn’t missing, then he could’ve added it to his collection! Ah well, better luck next time. While he was seemingly distracted, one of the nearby Witches decided to make a break for it, a boy whose hair covered his eyes and possessed rather bat-like ears. Without even glancing his way, Boyd’s knife shot out like a bullet, cleanly slicing through his throat in an instant. He didn’t even have a chance to scream, how boring!
“Stupid Witches, can’t even die properly.” He grumbles, flicking the boy’s blood off of his precious blade. “Stupid Reticulus, never leaving any good corpses to slice up.” He briefly wonders again as to why, exactly, he was being stuck with this stupid job. He was one of the Squadron’s best killers, so why were his talents being squandered? He mulled it over in his head, knife idly slicing through the girl’s corpse, when a creak drew his gaze forward. As the reason finally clicked, he deadpanned. He was being used as bait, and as a test; great.
Three kids stood in front of him, staring at him like he was some kind of fucking monster; to be fair, he was one, no doubt about that, but it was always so annoying when people looked at him like that. He briefly contemplated trying to figure out which one Reticulus wanted to test, but decided it would be more fun to just kill the little shits. Not like they really mattered anyway. The chunky girl with the glasses started doing that stupid circle thing they did to cast spells, can’t have that. His knife shot out, smoothly slicing through her wrist and across her face, stabbing through her eyes into the brain.
Before the other two could do more than widen their eyes, he struck again. His blade ripped through the neck of the Mint-headed girl, and wasn’t that a color, sending her head rolling. Before the smaller boy could even scream, the knife slammed through his skull, entering through one ear, and exiting out the other. Scowling, he called Radical Chop back to him. No trouble at all, not even worth the effort of being clean. He sighed, only for a familiar, sharp pain to rush through his body; he had been stabbed. Glancing down, he was both surprised and not to see a dagger driven into his gut, the angle allowing for it to be dragged into his other vital organs easily. He spoke up, perfectly calm in the face of his death. “You can drop the invisibility now.”
As the air next to him rippled and faded, he was pleasantly surprised to see another kid, her face carefully blank save the familiar rage in her eyes, the kind he saw in all the kids who saw him kill their friends. He smirked. “Gotta say, pretty cold of you to throw your friends into the grinder like that.”
The girl snorted, calling over her shoulder. “Gus! Drop the illusion.”
“Got it!” A young voice called out, the corpses of the kids fading along with the blood coating his precious blade, the kids from before shimmering into view, ready to pounce if things turned dicy for the kid stabbing him at the moment.
Boyd snorted. He had underestimated them. He gave the girl who had effectively killed him a smirk. “So, you’re the little rat Retic wants to test, eh?” He laughed at her furious expression. “If you’re looking for him, he should be up ahead, going over the latest batch of bodies. Now, if you’ll excuse me…” Before they could blink, he whipped his blade, his beautiful Radical Chop, up to his head, driving it through his own skull.
Gus gagged, while Amity and Willow looked on stoically. It was certainly an improvement over Gus actively heaving and the girls shouting. It was to be expected, as this was the fifteenth kill by this point, though they had only gone for the stealth option when they saw how quickly he had killed that Witch trying to get past him.
Amity glanced down at the Witch the man had killed. She recognized him. “Hey, I think I know this one.”
Luz walked over, glancing down at the bat-eared boy, curious. “Really? Who is he?”
Amity shrugged. “I honestly don’t know him personally, but Skara was interested in him a little.” She sighed, knowing that she’d have to deliver the news to her friend. “I really hope she takes this well.” She glanced up at the feeling of a hand on her shoulder, seeing Willow giving her a comforting, if hesitant smile, which she returned.
Luz sighed. “Let’s go, we’ve still got to take down Retic if we want this to end.” The others nodded. Bracing themselves, they moved, ready for the fight to come, or so they thought.
Eda moved to Lily’s side, shaking her roughly. “Come on Sis, we don’t have time for this!” She cried, frantically gesturing to the crowd under attack. She bit her lip, tilting Lily’s head up. “Listen, Sis, I know we usually don’t see eye to eye, but if you can’t get out of your head, that crowd is going to die.” She thought she saw a flicker of light in her eyes. “You always said you wanted to be in Bonehead’s Coven to help people, well now’s your chance to prove it! Those people up there? They came here to see you, because they believe in you! Are you really going to let them down!?” She got down on her knees, pleading. “Sis, I need your help, as painful and ridiculous as it sounds, it’s the truth! Please!” She glanced back at Rudolph, who had paused, enjoying the show. The bastard was enjoying watching her beg for her sister’s help.
Rudolph snickered, and laughed. “It truly is amusing to see! Earlier, I had lamented your decision to keep the wretched thing alive, but I see now that I was wrong!!” He cackled, relishing the look of enraged confusion on Eda’s face, even as the crowd desperately fought to survive.
“What in hell are you talking about, you psycho!!” Eda growled, bracing herself to defend if necessary.
Rudolph gave her an ugly smirk, oozing amusement. “Simple. You may not have killed her body, but you certainly killed her spirit! She’s lost the will to live, I’d say!” He cackled, soaking in the look of dawning horror on Eda’s face, the soul-crushing realization of what her display had done, even if she couldn’t comprehend how.
“No.” Eda breathed out, slowly walking away from Lily. “That wouldn’t happen, not with her! She’s too strong for that to happen!”
“Is she?” Rudolph mused, genuinely curious. “Everything we’ve gathered has pointed to a woman with a rather fragile ego; seeing her baby sister showing her up once again must’ve been quite the shock.” He was amused at Eda’s denial; for all she claimed to be the strongest on the Isles, a statement not totally devoid of fact, she seemed to be a tad oblivious to the fortitude of those around her.
“Gathered…” Eda muttered, her eyes widening. “You’ve been spying on her!?”
“Oh her, the schools, the government, you, everyone really. We carefully staked this out ever since we arrived.” He placed his hands on his hips, looking pleased with himself. “I must say, we certainly displayed an impressive amount of restraint, building all of this up.” He shrugged. “Normally, we just come and kill everything and everyone we come across. It was quite the learning experience!”
“You…” Eda growled, pure hate coloring her voice. “Just who do you think you are!?”
“Why, my dear, I think I’m the one leading the attack on your people, at the moment at least.” Rudolph cheekily replied. “After all…
“... We are the ones who hold the power in this situation.”
Mattholomule silently cried behind a stand, the crazed laughter of the maniac out front still ringing in his ears. He had just seen a woman torn limb from limb by flying chains, her organs and blood splattered all about. Bria sat next to him, biting her lip, while Gavin and Angmar played Rock-Paper-Scissors to figure out what to do. That choice was taken from them, however, when a chain yanked Bria out of hiding, prompting the three to scream in fear.
“It is simply the way of the world, after all. The powerful thrive, the weak die. Nothing more, nothing less.”
Emira held in a curse, while Edric hyperventilated next to her. Two squads of the invaders had just finished corralling a group of kids into a corner. She closed her eyes, trying to tune out the screams, Edric silently crying next to her, as the Mages ripped the children apart in a hail of magic. Glaring daggers at the murderers, Emira paused, a plan coming to her. Whispering to Edric, who nodded firmly in agreement, the two slunk into the shadows.
“Why, it is only natural for those with power, namely us, to do with it as we- HURK!”
Reticulus loomed over a potential donor, their limbs spread by his veins, dislocated from his body and acting as ropes to bind and restrain his target. He licked his lips. It wouldn’t do for the fools to potentially damage his prize with unnecessary struggling, now would it? Just as he reeled back to rip his prizes from the worthless husk before him, his body registered the sensation of a blade digging into his arm.
“Just shut your fucking mouth.” Eda warned, the butt of her staff slammed into the sadist’s gut. Seeing his hands take on that icy glow, she raised her leg, slamming him back with a kick to the chest. “You don’t know anything about the people of the Isles!” She shouted, her eyes spotting Bump summoning some Abominations in the stands, directing them at Rudolph’s troops.
“You think just because you’ve got a lot of power, you get to throw it around, and we’ll just take it?” She countered his frost with a fireball, landing a cracking blow across his jaw. When Rudolph slammed his hands against the ground, summoning an encroaching sheet of frost, she ripped it away with a shockwave of magical force.
“Your resistance to the inevitable is growing irksome!” He yelled, forming a fang of ice around his hand, lashing out at Eda. She blocked his blow with her staff, grunting as he forced her back. Spines of ice formed along his arms, stabbing towards Eda. “Your people are a pack of sheep, blindly following the words of a false prophet in their inane desire for safety!!” He encased her wrists in ice, preventing her from casting, before slamming his forehead into her eyes. “You may well be the strongest on the Isles, but that title is as hollow as their leader’s words!” He slashed his blades at Eda’s sides, a cry of pain ripping from her throat. Unbeknownst to either combatants, Lilith twitched at Eda’s cries.
“I…! Have stood on my own two feet… my entire life!” Eda choked out, hands grabbing at the claws currently pinning her in place.
“I do what I want to do, nothing more… nothing less…!”
Bria screamed, feeling the skin of her arms and legs stretching from the chains pulling her in either direction. The pain was like nothing she had felt before. Angmar and Gavin were being pinned in place, metal blades pushing into their hands to keep them from casting. She was… she was going to die here. Tears came to her eyes at the thought.
The maniac tormenting her gave a demented giggle, gesturing for the chains to rip her apart, once and for all.
“Stay away from Bria!” A young voice shouted. The agent turned in shock, his casting forgotten, as a fist as large as his torso careened towards him, pulping his skull. Standing defiantly, was Matty, tears of rage in his eyes.
“But for all that I hate Bonehead… I love the Isles… and the people who call it home…!”
With the plan prepped and ready to go, Emira glanced towards Edric. Grimly, she nodded, with him flashing a thumbs up in response. In perfect sync, the two yanked on the cords they had set up, releasing a colossal explosion of smoke into the groups of killers. Working in concert, the twins cast a spell onto the two groups. When their vision cleared, both groups saw the other as a squad of Coven Guards. Reacting to the apparent enemy, the two sets of invaders unleashed their magic upon each other, and in a matter of moments, all were dead. The twins dropped the spell, clutching each other in relief.
“So if you think I’m just going to stand back… and let you kill people because you feel like it… then you’re even crazier than you look!!”
With a scream of rage, Luz drove her blades into Reticulus’ eyes, while Willow used her vines to rip free the near-victim, Amity conjuring up her Abomination to cushion the fall, Gus using his Illusions to guide the way to the exit. Using his broad back as leverage, Luz pushed herself off of his body, landing in a crouch near the others, eyes glaring daggers at the hulking monster before them.
Rudolph scoffed, his humor long gone. “And did you forget that my magical frost builds up and hampers you further the more of it you are exposed to? Hmm?” He accused, eyes narrowed in contempt.
“Nope!” Eda gamely replied. “I just decided I hated the look of you more than I was afraid of dying against you.” Her cheeky grin turned daring, eyes bright with challenge. “Even if I die, I’ll have died fighting for my freedom. Give me your best shot, you two-bit bully.”
With a roar of rage, Rudolph reared back his arm, fully intending to skewer the arrogant Witch who dared to challenge his might! His eyes widened in surprise, however, when his attack clashed against a raised staff, brilliant aquamarine eyes glaring at him.
“Stay. Away. From my sister.” Lilith hissed.

My Review of Konosuba
Tumblr media
(Short for: KonoSuba - God's Blessing on This Wonderful World)
How did I get into this anime? As you all know, I’m being an absolute lazy-ass when it comes to Isekai animes and have only gotten into the recent hits as of 2019. I already finished the suffer edition and the struggle edition. Let’s check out the light-hearted, wonk-fest! But before that…
Tumblr media
Let’s go back to the mid-1990s and rewatch the first episode of Yu Yu Hakusho. We all remember Yusuke Urameshi sacrificing his life in order to save a child about to be hit by a truck followed by being told that the child would have survived regardless if Yusuke interfered or not. So dude just wasted his fucking life for nothing! Let’s amp this trope up to 483 with the way our main lead in Konosuba dies. Kazuma Satou was on his way back home from purchasing a video game when he noticed a girl about to be hit by a car. He pushes her out of the way and yada, yada, yada he’s dead!
Tumblr media
He is now in a limbo setting, standing before a goddess named Aqua who tells Kazuma that his death was absolutely meaningless. Not only would the girl have survived, it wasn’t even a car, it was a slow-moving tractor. And Kazuma didn’t get hit by the tractor, he suffered a heart attack due to shock, followed by pissing his pants, followed by doctors, family, and relations laughing at Kazuma’s humiliating experience. And then he dies!
Aqua tells Kazuma that he has two options. He can either go to Heaven or be transported to a fantasy world (much like a game) and try to defeat a demon king. Choosing the fantasy world, Kazuma is given the opportunity to take an item with him on his travels. Now at this point, Kazuma has been annoyed by this goddess’s attitude towards him and decides to be a dick. So Kazuma chooses Aqua to be with him on his journey. Sucks for Kazuma however, because Aqua is useless! And unlike the video games Kazuma’s used to, he and Aqua must do manual labor and pay off expenses in the first town. So they might be there for a while.
Tumblr media
Kazuma ends up with two more members in his crew including a witch named Megumin that uses explosive magic and a masochistic crusader named Lalatina Dustiness Ford (or Darkness for short). But don’t get too excited! Megumin’s magic can only be used once a day, wiping away her energy. And while Darkness has a mean sword, she misses every time with it. So yeah, this is a rag-tag team of useless dopes. Let’s watch the wacky misadventures of Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness as they go on missions, drink until they puke, explode castles, and steal underwear.
Tumblr media
Yes, Kazuma occasionally does this.
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: Crunchyroll has been able to bless the masses with an English dub. Can’t let FUNimation have all the Isekai hits. So far it’s been alright and I’m hearing more Erica Mendez and Cristina Vee. All good things here! Plus it gives me a chance to hear the voices of Kazuma, whom up to this point I have minimal time listening to either person who plays him. And annoying as Aqua may be, Faye Mata does a really good job with that range Sora Amamiya set in the original. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
JAPANESE CAST: *Kazuma is played by Jun Fukushima (known for Naruko on Yowamushi Pedal and Makoto on Fruits Basket 2019)
*Aqua is played by Sora Amamiya (known for Touka on Tokyo Ghoul, Chizuru on Rent A Girlfriend, Miia on Monster Musume, Yachiyo on Magia Record, Akame on Akame ga Kill, and Elizabeth on Seven Deadly Sins)
*Megumin is played by Rie Takahashi (known for Emilia on Re:Zero)
*Darkness is played by Ai Kayano (known for Alice on SAO: Alicization, Menma on Anohana, Nana on Golden Time, Ryouko on Food Wars, Itsuwa on Index, Yukika on My Love Story, and Mayaka on Hyouka)
ENGLISH CAST: *Kazuma is played by Arnie Pantoja (known for Watchdog-Man on One Punch Man and Kanbarry on Re:Zero)
*Aqua is played by Faye Mata (known for Rin on Love Live, Aluminum Siren on Sailor Moon Stars, Yukako on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Pt. 4, Frederica on Re:Zero, and a bitch on Shield Hero)
*Megumin is played by Erica Mendez (known for Ryuko on Kill la Kill, Haruka/Sailor Uranus on Sailor Moon S [redub], Raphtalia on Shield Hero, Retsuko on Aggretsuko, Nico on Love Live, and Emma on The Promised Neverland)
*Darkness is played by Cristina Vee (known for Homura on Madoka Magica, Rei/Sailor Mars on Sailor Moon, Mio on K-ON, Sakura on Fate/Stay Night UBW, Kotori on Love Live, and Kanaria on Rozen Maiden: Traumend)
Tumblr media
FAVORITE CHARACTER: Darkness is best girl, don’t at me!
Tumblr media
SHIPPING (sorta): Can we just all agree that Darkness is just a sober version of Cheryl from Archer?
Whoever ends up with her will end up choking her either because she tells you to or she annoys you with her masochistic nature! I seriously do not know how you want me to turn this shipping discussion into anything other than a comment about a bitch getting choked.
ENDING TO SEASON ONE: Kazuma has been able to get a little good luck in his other world as he was finally able to move out of the stables and into a house with the rest of his crew. Although, it didn’t come easy! Then again, what has in this series? In the final episode of the first season, all of the adventures of the town were called to take on a scary foe. Up to this point, we’ve seen these guys take out mutant cabbages and an idiot dullahan. Today we’ve got…
Tumblr media
A giant, mechanical spider!
Why do the stupidest stories always rely on a giant, mechanical spider? Kazuma and the rest were able to stop the spider from moving. However, this monstrosity is set to explode and the impact could take out the entire town. Darkness wants to repay the town for all it has done for her and her family. The adventurer men want to repay the town because of all the succubus taverns they love. And Kazuma just wants to continue his journey so he can take out the demon king. Now, because Megumin already used her explosion magic for the day, she’s down for the count. But she was able to do it a second time thanks to Kazuma transferring some magic from Aqua through his spell and with a little help from Wiz. The day is saved, Kazuma and his crew got a hefty reward, and then Kazuma is immediately charged with treason for sending the evidence to a higher up and it exploded.
Tumblr media
Believe it or not, but a lot of these quests end with a giant middle finger to them. Almost like Curb Your Enthusiasm!
EPISODE 11: The special episode that followed came with some more misfortune for Kazuma. A trip to Wiz’s shop ends with a choker around Kazuma’s neck that’s going to strangle him in three days if his wish doesn’t come true. So to figure out what Kazuma’s wish is, Kazuma has all of these girls fulfill his greatest desires in the hopes of one of these humiliating tasks will release Kazuma from the choker.
Tumblr media
As you can guess, because this is an OVA, it will be filled to the brim with degeneracy compared to the television series. Fuck yeah it was! Kazuma used this opportunity to use Wiz’s tits as comfy pillows, have Megumin play “Strip Rock/Paper/Scissors” with Yunyun, have Aqua fetch him food, and watch Darkness jiggle her breasts. Even when he thought he was at death’s door, he uses this special time to tell each girl with him at this dramatic moment that they are nothing more than tits and ass. All except for Aqua! No love for her. Not even a pity erection! So when the spell on the choker was released due to a simple wish, Kazuma was then killed by Aqua and quite possibly everyone else and Kazuma was sent back to the goddess chamber as he learned a powerful lesson.
Don’t ever do that again!
Damn…Kazuma died 3 times so far in 11 episodes. Subaru got you beat by a country mile. He’s probably looking at you like, “You damn, lucky dumbass. I got frozen, shanked, stabbed, sliced, maced, and eaten by bunnies”.
Tumblr media
SEASON TWO: As I mentioned at the end of season one, Kazuma is charged with treason and usually that comes with a death sentence. Unfortunately for Kazuma, his unintentional crime was against this big, fat, smelly noble who has many higher-ups wrapped around his finger. The townspeople can’t really help him out otherwise they’d risk being charged as well. And you have a prosecutor wanting Kazuma’s head on a pike not only for the major charge, but for being a pervert. The writing is on the wall, Kazuma is screwed. However, thanks to Darkness (and her family lineage) she was able to take one for the team by saving Kazuma (for now) and have that big, fat, smelly noble do God knows what to her. Also, the kingdom repossessed a lot of things from Kazuma’s crew.
So they’re worse than “square one” at this point. They’re at “square -57” with how much debt they’ve all accumulated.
ENDING TO SEASON TWO: Things are starting to look up for Kazuma and his crew. They were able to abolish their debt, got the treason charges lifted, and they were able to gain back some respect around the village. So what better way to celebrate then to go on a bit of vacation. The gang decided to head off to another town for some rest and relaxation. Unfortunately, the town they spent their time off at is full of religious wackos. And what I mean by religious wackos, I mean WORSE than Jehova Witnesses, Evangelical Christians, and the Heaven’s Gate cult all rolled into one.
…Okay, I’m obviously embellishing here. I just really fucking hate all of those ones I just mentioned. This cult is so fucking annoying! At every turn they’re trying to convert Kazuma, Megumin, and Darkness into their fold.
Tumblr media
Oh wait, it gets better! This cult worships the goddess Aqua! And of course our favorite idiot Aqua was using this to her advantage. That is until a priest didn’t believe her, starting a chain reaction with the townsidiots all leading up to them chasing Kazuma and crew out with pitchforks and fire. Apparently, Aqua did a big no-no by purifying the hot spring water and now it’s just regular water.
Unfortunately at that same time, a general to the dark lord was in area poisoning all of the water in this town. Yeah, this guy is serious trouble since he’s on a higher level than Wiz (back when she was working under the demon king). But he’s a slime and works with poison. In this world, Kazuma doesn’t stand a chance. Surprisingly, this battle went well (albeit Kazuma dying inside the slime), but we got to see Aqua at her baddest of ass. Now you’d think the town would be grateful to Kazuma and his team for ridding them of a demon king general. Hahaha, never trust religious nutjobs! They still found fault with Aqua purifying their hot springs and they were thrown out.
In the 11th episode (or second side-story), Kazuma thought he was meeting a new fan in town. So he regales her with tales of his expoditions to woo her. Turns out the girl is a new member of the local tavern and one of her jobs is to listen to useless adventurers to boost their morale. And this girl was totally not digging Kazuma. I think this hurt Kazuma more than all the times he’s died in this series.
Tumblr media
MOVIE: We head off to the land where Megumin and Yunyun were born and raised. While there was some miscommunication into if the town and their families were in trouble to begin with, trouble sure found Kazuma and the gang once they arrived. Another general of the demon king ends up causing quite a stir in the town. Sylvia was extra hard to take down in this story. Just when you thought she was dead, she returns from death’s door and brings the poison slime from season two and the dullahan from season one to wreck havoc all across the land. Luckily, Kazuma, his crew, Wiz, Yunyun, and the rest of the townspeople were able to put an end to Sylvia and her cohorts.
Tumblr media
But man, Kazuma got some really shitty deals in this movie. His trashy and perverted reputation isn’t any better. Megumin’s father wanted to kill him. Megumin’s mother locked Kazuma and Megumin in a room together in hopes of doing the nasty, was messed with by a chimera of two genders, and was killed in a gruesome way that even the angels had to throw up when they saw the state of Kazuma.
On a positive note, Megumin seemed to have grown a little with this adventure as she was even thinking of putting her explosive magic on hold and give a whirl at other options. But she still gave a giant explosion that’s worth 120 points.
Konosuba was amusing. Definitely worth a few chuckles! I know it won’t be for everyone as comedy in anime can often be hit-or-miss. But the combination of characters with many quirks, the animation, the setting, the tasks, and misunderstandings, you’ve got yourself an anime version of Curb Your Enthusiasm. So…yeah, not for everyone, hit-or-miss! But in the big five isekai animes, this one is a little more light compared to some of the others. Overlord can get quite gory. Shield Hero will anger any sane person to a point of madness. And Re:Zero is just a misery blanket! Konosuba is that light-hearted comedy where sometimes the main protagonist dies horrificly in battle, but will return like Kenny from South Park. So if Shield Hero and Re:Zero depress you, maybe you might need a break with the silly, zany antics of Kazuma’s crew in Konosuba.
Tumblr media
Results may vary on your views of Aqua.
If you would like to watch Konosuba, the entire series is available on Crunchyroll. That’s the first season, second season, both OVA’s, and the movie in several different languages!
Okay, let’s pick our next Netflix, Crunchyroll, or Amazon exclusive!
Tumblr media
Alright! An anime like Black Lagoon if it involved gay boys! Banana Fish time.

Musou Tactics
After playing Fire Emblem Warriors, I thought I was super into Musou games. After moving on to the (earlier release) Hyrule Warriors, while I do still enjoy Musou it turns out that what I was super into was Fire Emblem Warriors. In particular, its tactical depth.
Cross-over Musou spin-off games (at least the ones I've tried - the above two and Dragon Quest Heroes) take on iconic aspects of their crossover franchise, and some work better than others. I think the key is how shallow or deep the mechanics are integrated with the core gameplay. For example, Dragon Quest Heroes retools the special attacks to be familiar spells like Zap that use MP and also provides monster medals for summoning friendly monsters. This was part of the normal combat gameplay, it clearly received a lot of attention, and it created some interesting possibilities. Meanwhile, other JRPG elements were integrated via town-like camp/airship segments between battles. These replaced the more direct upgrade menus found in other Musou titles, adding a bunch of NPCs in an explorable space and a lot of fiddly complexity in the equipment and crafting systems, more in line with mainline Dragon Quest. But this was a more shallow integration - in JRPGs, towns are important mechanisms for pacing (they might be several hours apart, as you use each as a safe place and base of operations while handling nearby dungeons or whatever) and worldbuilding (NPCs in towns can provide depth and detail as to the state of the world and how it's changing). But in Dragon Quest Heroes it mostly just feels like a menu that's harder to use shoved in between battles - you're ejected to it after every battle, which is every twenty minutes or so, and it generally just contains the same uninteresting NPCs to talk to over and over. (Maybe it gets better later in the game; I didn't finish DQH.)
Fire Emblem is a franchise of turn-based tactical RPGs, and while some of its iconic features were integrated shallowly and to poor effect (the Support conversation system ends up being pretty obnoxious) the more tactical elements like the weapon triangle (swords beat axes beat lances beat swords) and related rock-paper-scissors-like systems (flying units can cross gaps but are vulnerable to archers) turned out to be a shockingly good fit for Musou, to an extent I didn't appreciate until playing Hyrule Warriors.
In most Musou games, you pick your character at the start of the mission and that's who you play as for the whole mission. Any allies are completely controlled by the (not especially competent) AI. You generally need to run around the battlefield taking care of everything major yourself. This is why Tim Rogers called Musou games "Action-Flavored Strategic Job Responsibility Simulators."
This setup also has a homogenizing effect on playable characters. They can have different movesets, different offense/defense trade-offs, and different range/damage trade-offs - but fundamentally they need to all have the same capabilities, because they all need to be able to handle every situation that can occur in every mission. Some characters might be slightly better suited to certain challenges, but you can just pick your favorite and stick with them and be just fine.
Hyrule Warriors changes this formula slightly. You can in many cases deploy two or three playable characters and switch between them freely, and you can also issue simple commands to allied characters to send them where you want them to go. (I'm not sure it's the first to add these features, but it's the earliest Musou game I've seen with them.) But the characters are still basically homogeneous in capability - anyone can handle anything. As a result, the only real reason to switch between characters is down to location. Maybe you sent Link to the west side of the map and Zelda to the east, and as threats arise on either side of the map you switch between - but you could just as well have sent Link east and Zelda west. Or if you have time, just stick with one and run back and forth.
In some senses, this is good - you can still just deploy and use your favorite characters, and you basically can't have the frustrating situation where because you failed to predict the future, an urgent threat pops up on the other end of the map and you simply can't get there in time. But Fire Emblem Warriors is - as far as I know - the first and only Musou game to see and use the true potential of this system - by differentiating the playable characters.
As in its source material, playable characters in Fire Emblem Warriors are mechanically defined by their relationship with multiple rock-paper-scissors systems. The most significant are the weapon type (sword/axe/lance in the weapon triangle, and bow/tome/dragonstone outside of it) and the movement type (infantry, cavalry, flying cavalry), though there are a few other interactions (some characters have anti-dragon weapons and some characters are dragons, for example, and some characters are better healers than others). The result is actual difference in capability meaning not every character can handle every challenge, which creates much more interesting scenarios. You may have to send Pegasus knight Caeda flying across a gap to lower a bridge that sword-wielding Marth can then run across to deal with the archers on the other side blocking Caeda's progress, for example.
As a result, it's now important to survey the map before each mission and put together a balanced party capable of handling the mission's particular threats. No archers? Go nuts with the flying units! Going up against Falchion-wielders? Don't send Tiki or Corrin against them! Lots of Pegasus knights? Send in the archers and axe-wielders! And so on. Your party composition is then tested in the mission itself, which will go much more smoothly if you've put the right character types in the right places.
By adding this tactical depth, Fire Emblem Warriors reveals Musou as what it's actually been all along - a real-time tactical RPG. People complain that combat in Musou is easy, shallow, and uninteresting, but Musou has never been about individual combat encounters. You could put in a richer dueling system, but this would forgo the genre's strengths and what separates it from linear beat-'em-ups. In Musou, the challenge comes from managing the entire battlefield - understanding what's going on, prioritizing threats and opportunities, and managing your resources to handle them. Adding depth to those tactical decisions is how you improve a Musou game.
(Though I didn't try it, Fire Emblem Warriors can push things even further with its optional Tactician mode, where the controlled character can't deal any damage but allies are significantly more effective at following orders. I like having the player-driven action in there too, but the fact that this is even possible as an experiment says a lot about the nature of the game.)
It's been difficult to go back to Hyrule Warriors where there isn't any such thing as a balanced party and it doesn't matter who you use to deal with what. There hasn't been a new Musou crossover since Fire Emblem Warriors, but the next one has been announced - Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. The Persona games have always had fairly tactically-rich combat with an emphasis on exploiting elemental weaknesses - this could easily serve just as well as Fire Emblem Warriors' weapon triangle, if Atlus and Omega Force decide to go that way. I really hope they do.

Last Night
Another dream prompt. More about monsters and stuff the more you get into it. Don’t really have a whole plot to it, but the first part was interesting enough that I might do some sort of second part if I feel like holding onto this idea. We will see how into detail I get into this.
There was a house that everyone knew of in the middle of the forest behind the high school, where we weren’t allowed to go. The high school staff would tell us that sometimes kids would go in there and get lost and would never be seen again. I called BS on that, but they actually had video evidence of people going into the woods and the staff had missing reports of every kid that went in there. After that, I didn’t really care to go into the forest, but the group of teenagers I hung out with at the time were very interested in seeing the house in the middle of the forest. As hesitant as I was, I wasn’t going to let them just go on their own. So, I guess I was going with them. There were 5 of us all together; 2 boy, both one grade above us and 3 girls, including me, all of us juniors. We all grew up together. We figured the boys would try to pull some prank on us, a simple one just to joke around. But whatever they had planned, we didn’t get to laugh about because we found it. A house in the middle of a large field. The entire property surrounded by trees. The house was kind of Victorian, at least that’s what we guessed. To me, it just looked Gothic. We all said that we wanted to go see the house, but one of the girl suggested just one person go up there to make sure its safe first. The two boys looked at each other with worried looks. I don’t blame them. It was the middle of the night, the moon was full in the sky, everything seems to be black and gray out here and the whole thing just screamed bad vibes... well, not literally because that would just be horrible.  The boys decided to do rock, paper, scissors to see who was going to be the first one to go up there. The girls were very focused on the match, mostly because the boys were being stupid and picking the same thing over and over again. I figured they would be too chicken to actually go to the house. I suggested loudly that we just head back home before we forget the way that we came in.  No one heard me, of course. They were all too focused on who would win the game. I groaned, knowing that whoever was going to go up there wasn’t going to actually spend anytime admiring the house up close. So I took out my phone, no service of course, and opened up the camera to take some pictures. I started walking closer to the house to get a better look and that when i heard someone say one of the boy’s names. He must have been the loser in rock, paper, scissors. Right after the guy was chosen, I heard a collective gasp. Glad to know they finally saw me walking up to the house now.  I had just gotten through the field when the realized and I was on some sort of gravel drive. I got my camera out again and took some more pictures. The house had two tall towers on either side of the house. The house was three stories... maybe four. It was a very pretty house. I thought the pictures were coming out great, but then I heard everyone yelling my name. I turned around to see what they were yelling about when I felt two large hands on my shoulders. I ducked under the hands and took a few steps away so I could turn around to see the individual. He was tall, dressed in a suit, bald with a big beard, and overall, quite terrifying. I started to run away from the man when I felt him grab me again and this time, he threw me over his shoulder. I looked at where everyone had been and just barely saw them running into the forest. At least, they were going to be safe. I didn’t really expect them to come and save me. They were all pretty wimpy when it came to fighting. I guess this is where I die. The man was taking me into the house when I remembered I still had my phone on me. I turned the camera around and took some pictures of me entering the house, going through the grand entrance and into a room with a long carpet that led to a couple of stairs and eventually led to a small couch. On either side of the room were pools the length of the room so deep that I couldn’t see the bottom. The man placed me on the ground a few feet from stairs. I put my phone in my back pocket and looked at him.  “Now what?” I asked him. “Are you going to torture and kill me now? Or was throwing me over your shoulder just your way of inviting me to tea?” Not the best time to be sarcastic, but I was pretty freaked out and I’d rather go out calm and collected-ish rather than panicking and screaming.  “I am neither going to torture and kill you nor am I going to give you tea.” A voice said from behind me. I looked up the stairs and found a man sitting on the couch. Well... rather, he was draped across the couch. “I want to know what you are doing on this property and what you want.” I swallowed. “In all honesty, I didn’t even want to be here. I was just following everyone else and I wanted to see the house up close because I thought it was pretty cool looking, very Goth-Victorian kind of cool. Its totally my aesthetic. Really love it.” The man looked at me. He had long dark hair and a very light skin color. He was dressed to match the house. A dark coat-jacket-thing that had many layers and a lot of accessories. He wore a white blouse-shirt with a lot of ruffles in the front and on his wrists, had very tight leather pant and was barefoot. He was very Gothic-Victorian.  “I don’t appreciate you trespassing onto my family’s property. I believe there is only one way to settle this.” He said before he stood up and began walking to me where I sat on the ground. Many thoughts were going through my head. What was the only way to settle this? Slavery? Sex? Sex Slave?... Okay well not many. Those were the only options that had been going through my head. I would have preferred none of them.  “The only way to settle this...” he began before he knelt in front of me and got incredibly close to my face. “is death.” He finished. My eyes widened and I couldn’t stop the loud “What?” that came out. “Death. You trespassed onto my property so you must die.” I looked at him with bewilderment. He couldn’t have been serious. I’ve heard of trespassers would be shot, but I didn’t see any warning of death to trespassers anywhere on the property.  “Brother, you aren’t thinking straight. Perhaps, I should take over this matter?” Another voice spoke from my side. The man in front of me looked over at the voice and I followed suit. To my astonishment, I found another man inside the pool.  “I don’t need you to take over this matter. I’ve already decided that she is going to die.” He spoke harshly as he stood up and walked over to the couch once again. He started rummaging around behind the couch, probably to find something to kill me with. “Pst.” I heard from my side once again. It was the man in the pool. He was waving for me to come over. He was smiling at me. “Come on.” I crawled over to the man. “Don’t worry. My brother has the sickness right now. He should be over it in a few days and then he will apologize for his behavior and let you go.” I blinked at the man. “What do I do until then?” I felt the man grab my hand and he slid a pearl bracelet on it. I looked at him again and he was still smiling at me. “Don’t worry and keep breathing.” He said before he pulled me into the pool. I gasped as I hit the water and felt the water enter my mouth and lungs, but... it wasn’t painful, like drowning. It was like I was breathing normally, just underwater. “Just keep breathing. Its alright. Its normal.” I looked at him and nearly squealed in surprise. The man wasn’t really a man at all... he was a merman?... I had so many questions.
I’m gonna stop right there because I didn’t really have a whole lot else planned out completely, but some elements were from my dream. There was a merman and a house in a field. I don’t remember a lot else though... So I’ll figure something out.

Decisions, Decisions...
Tumblr media
Whenever I’m talking about any of the underlying design elements of games (especially when it comes to systems), “interesting decisions” and “meaningful decisions” are terms I tend to throw around fairly frequently – and I’m sure at times they seem almost indistinguishable. I use them both almost exclusively in a positive context, often to justify a change or decision I’m making or proposing (for example, changing Fire Emblem’s Rock-Paper-Scissors system into something more tangible would provide players with more interesting decisions, since the pros and cons of each weapon type would interact more freely with context).
However, I’ve recently read an interesting article – “The Danger of Interesting Decisions” by Dan Felder – that both works to illustrate the pitfalls of such a broad design principal and introduces a safer alternative in “Satisfying Decisions,” or decisions that have no ambiguity in the positive nature or “correctness” of their outcome. I may be wildly misinterpreting the driving message of this article, although perhaps I may just fall into the “narrow psychographic” of players/designers who put a high amount of value in decisions with non-obvious answers. Regardless, I think it’s important to both take a moment to talk about decisions in general, as well as say my piece on the value of those whose purpose is to be interesting and meaningful, as well as those simply meant to be satisfying.
SATISFYING DECISIONS
Satisfying Decisions are probably the easiest to define – as the player, you make a decision that undoubtedly was the “best” one, often being put in a position to make this decision as a reward for previous good decision-making (or skillful execution of inputs, etc.) or simply because the game is rewarding the player frequently in a small way. In this case, think of executing an enemy with Darius’s ult in League of Legends, or dodging an attack at the last moment to trigger Witch Time in Bayonetta.
In the first case, this “Satisfying Decision” is playing an integral role in the “Reward” element of the Encourage-Enable-Reward nature of his kit, so by earning the position of being near a low-health enemy marked by several bleed stacks, you get to make the no-brainer decision of bringing down your index finger on that R button with righteous satisfaction and watching as your foe gets removed from the fight and your ult’s cooldown resets, ready for another use. This decision would instead become “interesting” if it did not reset and you had to choose your target wisely.
Likewise, in Bayonetta, you’re never going to be challenged with the decision of “do I want to get hit or do I want to dodge,” or “do I want to do a dodge that doesn’t have the right timing to give me Witch Time” – no, you go for that Witch Time whenever you can, and then get to make the interesting decision of how to best use that precious moment of full combat freedom. And you know what? Both of these feel really, really good. But only being faced with easy decisions is by no means the best or only way to let the player feel good (outside purely execution-based games like Super Meat Boy or any given rhythm game), so maybe we might want to think about introducing something to balance them out.
INTERESTING DECISIONS
Interesting Decisions are those that challenge the player to choose between two seemingly equal options, each with distinct outcomes based on the circumstance – one of which might be right while the other is wrong, or more optimal while the other is less optimal.
Take, for example, knocking down a tough monster in Monster Hunter while you are near death. Here, you have an obvious “wrong” answer (do nothing, or take some other action that would clearly harm you or take you further away from your goal), as well as a few answers that will yield different but positive outcomes – in this case, taking the short opportunity to either use your most powerful attacks on the vulnerable monster, or roll away from danger and drink a potion to allow yourself to indulge in greedier combos or make more wrong decisions down the line. Since dropping to 0 health multiple times and failing to deal enough damage to the monster before the time limit is up are both lose conditions here, both of these options seem good, but which one is the best?
With a good (ie. not needlessly convoluted) interesting decision, it all depends on the player’s ability to analyze their current situation and plan ahead based on its potential outcome(s). So in this case, drinking would be the most optimal option if the monster in question has an attack that can reliably hit the player (whether due to their build and strategy or them not yet knowing how to anticipate and avoid it), whereas going in for the damage would be the most optimal option if doing so is the only way to break an out-of-reach part that poses a risk while unbroken, or if the player’s weapon relies heavily on large openings for its damage output (ie. Greatsword/Hammer/Gunlance). Usually, many of these interesting decisions pepper the moment-to-moment gameplay of Action/Hunting games and Fighting games alike, as players must decide how close or far they should be to their opponent or which combo or attack to go for on the fly, with these decisions relying largely on how well the player can read the situation.
MEANINGFUL DECISIONS
Meaningful Decisions are those that have a tangible weight to them, but rather than existing as right or wrong, or on a spectrum of optimization, they simply change how the player is able to interact with the game and approach its many challenges and decisions. The core of a meaningful decision is that “meaning” – the decision you’re making needs to have an outcome that means something, that changes the way you think about what you’re doing.
The importance of meaningful decisions is the most noticeable in their absence – perhaps you’ve played a PvP game whose characters are negligible in their differences, or one that offers a complex customization subsystem yet only one viable “build” for each of its characters, classes, etc. Or, take for example League of Legends’ current “Rune” system, where players are able to slap on tiny granules of raw stats that are applied to their champion of choice at the start of the game. Choosing between +1 Attack Damage and +1% Critical Chance doesn’t feel very meaningful, and even with some of the more distinctive Keystone Masteries, you’ll often find yourself in a situation where the champion you’ve chosen to play simply gets way more value out of one than the others. The illusion of choice is often what’s left after a failed implementation of meaningful decisions.
To look at these sorts of decisions done right, consider character moveset builds in Darkest Dungeon (which I am contractually obliged to mention once per article): giving the Jester its 4 music-based support moves or its 4 sickle-based damaging moves doesn’t make it better or worse at what it does, because “what it does” depends on how you choose to use it. Beyond that, this has even more meat to it once you realize you can mix and match these two distinctive movesets to further tailor its output to your needs. The decision of how you build this character is “meaningful” because, while not inherently “satisfying” (or particularly “challenging” – this is where choosing which of those 4 moves to spend your Jester’s single turn per round comes in), it changes the way you think about using that character in a significant way.
THE ANATOMY OF A DECISION
So now that we’ve got the Big Three out of the way, let’s look at the only card game I know enough about to use as an example: Hearthstone. While a lot of its appeal is surely due to its more approachable tone and ties to a monstrously popular franchise, its competitive scene has taken root due to a health dose of satisfying, interesting, and meaningful decisions.
For those who haven’t played, the premise is simple: choose a character, build a deck, and use that deck to beat your opponent’s character before their deck beats yours.
The satisfying decisions here are obvious - for example, if you have a minion on the board and your opponent doesn’t, you can use it to attack them at no cost beyond that minion’s one action per turn, depleting your opponent’s health and bringing you closer to victory. A clearly “right” decision, usually punctuated by a cheeky battle cry and a satisfying crunch.
The interesting decisions are usually what put you in a position to make the satisfying ones. Do you use that minion to attack another enemy’s minion and potentially remove it from play (sometimes at the cost of your own minion), or do you go straight for their character’s face? Do you put down three more minions for a potential burst of damage next turn, or do you play it safe in case your opponent has an AoE spell up their sleeve? Do you summon a 2/2 Slime, or gain an empty Mana Crystal? Sometimes you might not find out whether you made the right decision even after the match is over, yet this is often what keeps each new match as engaging as the last.
The meaningful decisions, then, are done almost entirely outside of any match. Do you build a safe and balanced deck? One that prioritized board control? Perhaps bank on powering up and summoning the terrifying C’Thun? Do you play that deck with a Priest that can keep minions topped off with their Lesser Heal, or a Hunter who can keep up the pressure with liberal use of Steady Shot? Do you take advantage of the Hunter’s unique trap-like Secret cards, unleash their menagerie of ferocious beasts, or keep a quiver full of their flexible offensive Spell cards?
...Of course, all of these decisions have their extremes. Only trying to satisfy the player without challenging them or allowing them to explore diverse options can result in a popcorn-like game that feels more like a toy (many mobile game apps fall into this). As expressed in “The Danger of Interesting Decisions,” simply trying to tie up the player with endless crossroads of nail-biting ambiguity can lead to the kind of frustration that will only drive them away, rather than engage them. And even providing equal-but-different options in excess can lead to a paralysis of indecision that stops the player from engaging with the game entirely. With those dangers in mind, I do ultimately think that a healthy ecosystem involving all these types of decisions is what makes for the most engaging and rewarding gameplay experiences…And of course, those are the ones I want to design!

Hi folks! Here’s part 3. Sorry for the slow posts recently, I’ve been sick and tired. It’s also really hard to find motivation to write but i’m really enjoying what i’ve written so far! Thanks for all the likes, kudos and comments on ao3 and tumblr! I’ll post the second half of their bet in the next few days and this story should be wrapped up by the end of the week!
Mo swallowed and met He Tian’s gaze. “What’ll we play for?”
He Tian pretended to think stroking his chin much to Mo’s annoyance, Mo raised an eyebrow at He Tian’s false pretence.
“I know you already have something in mind. Spit it out.”
He Tian grinned mischievously and the paranoia at the back of Mo’s mind intensified.
“How about the loser has to whatever the winner wants for one hour? Within reason of course. Nothing illegal, dangerous or grievous bodily harm. At least 3 out of 5 games.”
Mo couldn’t tell if was filled with dread or anticipation at these high stakes. His mind was a whirlwind trying to work out the stakes. On one hand, imagine the high and mighty He Tian doing whatever he wanted for an hour. He could use him as a foot rest and there would be no repercussions (straight away). On the other hand, He Tian would have almost limitless power. But how was that much different from when He Tian coerced him to do anything? Mo dug his fingernails into his palm and bit his lip. It wasn’t a bet without high stakes.
He Tian was staring with his hand stretched out and impatiently waiting for his answer. In the end, the opportunity to have He Tian at his beck and call was too tempting. Mo shook his hand with light pressure.
“You’re on.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They both agreed that they would each pick 2 games and the the last game had to be mutually agreed.
“So, who starts?” Mo asked shifting his weight from one foot to the other. “Rock, paper, scissors?”
He Tian shrugged and then held his fist up.
“Rock, Paper, SCISSORS” they both chanted.
Mo chose rock and He Tian chose paper.
“Predictable ‘Don’t close mountain’.” He Tian teased and messed up his hair.
“Fuck off! Hurry up and choose your game.”
He Tian tsked at him and led him towards one of the game booths. He had chosen balloon darts. Inwardly Mo cheered. He’d had plenty of dart practise when he had worked at a bar.
“2 please” He Tian said gesturing to the both of them and gave the friendly stall assistant a few dollars.
“Ok Gentleman! Here are 6 darts. You need to pop 5 balloons for our small prizes, 7 for the medium and 9 for the big prizes. You’ll only have one chance, good luck!”
It didn’t look too hard, throw the darts at the balloons. Ideally, one dart per a balloon. Mo picked up his first dart and rolled it around between his fingers. He looked at his other hand that was holding his balloon and shifted around uncomfortably until He Tian tsked. He Tian had tied his balloon to his non-dominate hand and he leaned over and plucked the balloon from Mo’s grasp and gently tied it to his hand that wasn’t holding the dart.
“Don’t cry when you lose it cause you’re careless”
“Go eat an asshole”
He Tian had a shit-eating grin on his face and to Mo’s mortification leaned forward to whisper in his ear “gladly”. Mo pushed He Tian’s head away, his face was bright red and he heard the sales assistant mutter to themselves along the lines of “youth these days”.
“Let’s just start!” Mo said averting his gaze. He Tian patted his shoulder and then turned back to the darts and began squaring up. Mo had managed to pop 2 balloons on his first go while He Tian had only managed to pop 1. He Tian shrugged and picked up his second dart, he closed one eye and carefully threw the dart in a downwards motion. POP, POP, POP three balloons. He Tian grinned smugly while Mo looked aghast.
“How was that even possible?! No, don’t let him get inside your head” Mo muttered. He took a deep breath and steadied his hand threw his second dart. POP, only one balloon. They both continued in silence apart from the sounds of the balloons popping. He Tian finished first with a total of 9 balloons and was watching Mo throw his last dart. His stare was like a laser beam and Mo’s hand shook a little as he threw his last dart. He needed 1 darts to beat He Tian. POP Mo felt instant relief as soon as he heard that. He grinned then tried to play it cool by schooling his features to something neutral and elbowed He Tian.
The stall assistant was smiling and ringing a bell and told them to pick one of the prizes from the top shelf. He Tian picked a medium sized angry looking red panda and Mo picked a fluffy black grizzly bear with soft fur. Four more rounds to go and he only had to win two more. Maybe, just maybe he had a chance after all. Mo looked at each of the stalls weighing each of his options and chances. He could pick 2 games and he had to play to his advantages. What about the bottle and ring throw? Then further down the stalls something caught his eyes.
“C’mon let’s go” Mo said excitedly and raced ahead with his balloon bobbing around. Once they reached the stall Mo had a nostalgic look on his face as he reached for his wallet. He Tian looked at him questioningly and he shook his head.
“I can at least pay for this much. I can’t have you lording this entire day over my head.” There was a pause and then Mo uncharacteristically had a soft look on his face. “I haven’t played with water guns since I was a kid, it used to be my favourite”
“You better win then, though this game is rather simple.” He Tian said gently elbowing him. Mo retaliated by scowling while nudging him back and also ‘accidentally’ stepping on He Tian’s toes when he went to reach for the gun.
The clowns across the stall smiled menacingly at them. Mo shuddered and scowled. The limp balloon sat above the clown’s hat. All he had to do to win was aim the water gun at the clown’s mouth accurately and fast enough for it to pop first. The bell rang signalling for them to start and Mo pulled the trigger tried to aim for the mouth. The stream of water was a sad limp flop but enough was filling the clown’s mouth. He Tian’s gun was no better and he was getting increasingly frustrated with it whilst Mo persevered, slowly but surely. Eventually He Tian had managed to find the right angle and was attacking the clown with renewed energy however Mo managed to fill the balloon enough for a medium prize just as the timer rang. “That was rigged” He Tian huffed displeasure clearly showing on his face, and subsequently the stall person slightly fearfully offered him a consolation prize of a small rubber monster finger puppet. He Tian glared at the little puppet as it rested on his forefinger and experimentally waved his finger back and forth causing the puppet to wave its hands wildly about. Mo snorted at He Tian’s sulking and looked at the prizes. Mo ended up picking a leek shaped back massager. Mo stared amused as he waved the leek back and forth and could hear the rustle of the beads inside. Mo then turned around and hit He Tian with the back massager.
“Oi, for the sore loser” he said and then chucked the leek at He Tian.
“Who’s a sore loser?” He Tian sneered but caught the leek and stared at it. “What-why did you pick this of all things?”.
Mo was glad his back was turned to him as he was probably blushing. “Payback for valentines. Besides you need to eat more vegetables and not that crap from the convenience store all the time.”
He Tian noticed the slight flush on his ears but said nothing.
“OI! HURRY UP!“ Mo yelled.
“You don’t even know where we’re going since it’s MY pick” He Tian yelled back.
“THEN HURRY UP AND DECIDE. I DON’T HAVE ALL NIGHT.”
