Top Ten Books/Series I forgot existed
So this has been sitting in my drafts for like a month or two and I just got an ask that made me want to actually post it. I think I made this simply because I was bored, couldn’t sleep, and enjoy making lists, so I decided to make a top ten list featuring books/series that I totally forgot about because…they’re just forgettable, no two ways about it. Because let’s be real here: there are great Choices books, there are terrible Choices books, and there are Choices books that are like…hey…hi…I’m just kinda here.
10. Shipwrecked. PLEASE do not quote me on this, but I *think* it released sometime this past year. Honestly most of the reason this book suffered was due to the lack of interesting characters, or characters in general because off the top of my head all I can remember are the MC, the LI, Dr. Hale, and the LI’s old business partner but I can’t even remember their name at this point. Hell, I can’t even remember much of the plot, and even after playing a chapter I remember forgetting almost everything about it pretty much immediately.
9. Wishful Thinking. I actually quite liked this book. It was lighthearted and pretty fun during a time where we needed some lightheartedness to balance out the more intense/angsty book releases. But unfortunately, the plot itself was kinda meh, and since it was a standalone, there was no real reason to remember it. Even worse, this book began the unfortunate trend of reusing background characters as MC’s “close friends”.
8. Foreign Affairs. Remember when FA was announced and, the dumbasses that we were, we were all convinced it would save the fandom from the book drought? Yeah…it feels like such a distant memory now. The book seemed really, really promising. And it could have been. But holy hell, it was executed so poorly and the premise of the plot was so flimsy. What I once thought would be a great book is now one of the ones I just squint at when I remember it even exists.
7. A Very Scandalous Proposal. I’ve talked about this one a little bit before. The main appeal of AVSP was Simon/Ava. If you didn’t like them? Tough shit, buddy. The main goal of the book was to uncover the secrets of the Montjoy family. Unfortunately, PB didn’t give us a reason to care about or find interest in said Montjoy family, which is probably why the book faded from my memory so quick.
6. Passport to Romance. This is kind of a weird one for me. I forget it exists most of the time, but then when I do remember it, I remember how truly terrible it was, while most of the other books on this list aren’t very fresh in my memory. It was so unimpressive, bland, and the characters were tolerable at best and obnoxious at worst (ELLIOT LANGDON).
5. Rising Tides. The book was okay…but it pushed a generic “save the earth” message while forcing us to pay to clean the town. The MC was a sidekick in her own story which would’ve been fine, but Charlie was such an annoying character that it wasn’t even enjoyable. Also, the Big Bads conceded waaaaay too easily at the end. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that I forgot about this book in less than a week after the final chapter aired.
4. Witness: A Bodyguard Romance. Believe it or not, despite how awful this book was, I forgot about it pretty quickly. It could’ve been a really cool story, but it focused too heavily on romance when the MC and Cassian’s lives were on the line quite literally at every second. Other than that…I truthfully do not remember much about this book other than the Irish mob.
3. Ms. Match. This book was decent enough and it didn’t stop releasing until that long ago. However, the plot was one of those “fight to reach the top and win the competition” plots which quite frankly have been overdone in Choices for a few years now. Not to mention, there weren’t a lot of interesting characters except for Maggie and maaaaaybe the MC’s dad but that’s pushing it a little. The reason it’s so high on this list is because it didn’t end that long ago, yet I can’t seem to remember a damn thing about the book, other than that I HATED the love interest.
2. Home for the Holidays. Many moons ago, this was considered one of the worst, if not, THE worst, book in Choices. And many moons ago, I agreed. But the horrific mediocrity of this holiday flurry of fuck was outshined by some truly awful stories and simply faded into obscurity.
1. Sunkissed. As I made this list, I scrolled through the series on the app, and while most books on this list elicited an “oh yeah, I kinda remember this” from me, when I saw this one, I was like “holy shit, I completely forgot this book was even a thing”. While Home For the Holidays and Sunkissed are both sort of (for lack of a better word) Hallmark-y, Sunkissed was longer and, in my opinion, a little sloppier. The book just wasn’t sure what it wanted to be. A lighthearted summer beach romance? A tale of a family’s struggles with grief and interpersonal conflict in the wake of a father and husband’s untimely death? Fuck it, we’ll uncomfortably cram BOTH into the main plot, execution be damned!

Physical Affection prompts 11, 13, and 16 for avsp?
thank you for the request, anon!
author’s note: i haven’t thought about these two in forever, and am glad the public release of AVSP is getting more fans since it is one of my favorite choices books. i hope you enjoy!
copyright: all characters owned by pixelberry studios. series/pairing: a very scandalous proposal – simon montjoy x mc (sophie macdonald) rating/warnings: 13+; none based on/prompt: physical affection prompts // 11. backhugs, 13. kissing someone’s forehead, & 16. kissing someone’s knuckles word count: ~620 summary: sophie and simon find a moment of respite and reminisce during their wedding.
solace
sophie stared out the window of the small – if you could consider anything in this giant castle of a home small – room she found herself in. fog had settled low on the grounds and she couldn’t see much besides the grass and a few tree trunks. she wrapped her arms around herself – it wasn’t cold per se – but the atmosphere outside reminded her of those early spring mornings.
“there you are, darling,” simon’s warm voice seemed to shed light in the dark room. “what are you doing by yourself in the dark?”
sophie let out a breath that frosted the window, lifting a hand to trace a squiggly line through it.
“i just needed a break,” she said quietly, biting her lip. she really just wanted a moment alone, but didn’t want simon to get the wrong idea.
it was their wedding day. shouldn’t it be the happiest day of her life?
why was she hanging out in a dusty old room instead of celebrating with her family and new husband?
because she could only take so much of the arrogant aristocratic stares and plastic smiles. hell, her cheeks and jaw needed a break from all the pleasantries.
she knew what she was signing up for when she agreed to marry him and have a large wedding reception at barrington. but she hadn’t factored in how much her family would clash in comparison to the montjoys’ and their high society friends. not that her family had bad manners or anything, but they couldn’t be expected to know the ins and outs of navigating and dining with these snobs and she felt like she had to run interference constantly.
she and simon barely had a chance to actually enjoy their own reception together.
thank goodness they had a few minutes after the post-ceremony photoshoot and before the reception, but her energy levels were severely depleted.
sophie closed her eyes and hummed appreciatively as simon wrapped his arms around her from behind. her head fell back onto his chest, his arms cradling her body against him. the chill she felt before disappeared immediately, replaced by the warmth against her back.
“i’m sorry i left you to the wolves. why did we invite so many people?”
she chuckled. “i was just thinking the same thing. i feel like i haven’t seen you since the ceremony. and it’s our wedding day.”
“do you regret marrying me already?” he asked quietly. there was a mirth to his voice but his eyes lacked the twinkle that she’d come to know as his subtle way of letting her know his tone was lighthearted.
she turned in his arms and looked up at him. “of course not. i knew what i was getting into,” she backtracked at his arched brow. “mostly.”
“i can’t wait until it’s just you and me,” he said, lowering his head so he could leave a chaste kiss on her forehead. “don’t plan on getting any sleep tonight, wife.”
“oh? what do you have planned, husband?”
his eyes twinkled. “i love hearing you call me that.”
he dropped one hand from her waist and pulled back, letting the other trail down her arm until it grasped her hand. she was already missing the warmth of his body against hers.
simon gave her fingers a gentle squeeze before bringing her hand up to his lips, grazing his own against her knuckles. his touch was featherlight, barely touching her skin, and yet, it sent a not unwelcome tremor down her spine.
“once more unto the breach?” he asked with a warm smile and sophie chuckled.
“let’s do this,” she said determinedly, tucking her arm into his and letting him escort her back to the main ballroom.

My theory on who could be behind the article in avsp (under the cut so no one gets spoiled and also bc it accidentally became an essay)
I think it's Ava/Simon, for multiple reasons. (I use Ava bc I'm too lazy to type more; it encompasses Simon as well)
1. MC pointed out that the article if full of information she had no way of knowing and in some cases even wondered how Hugo would've found out about certain details; Ava is the only one who could have known every detail for everything that was addressed in the article
2. Ava is the only one who knows about the book MC was planning to write. Hugo knew she was spying for information, maybe thought she was planning an article, but I don't think he knew much more. So unless Ava told anyone about the *fake* engagement, she's the only one who knows.
3. During her talk with her editor, MC finds out that it was sent from her official account which means that the culprit either had access to MC's Computer or remote access to the website. Regardless, the culprit would have needed one or more passwords and Ava is in a perfect position to obtain those passwords. MC obviously trusts her and has worked in front of her (i.e. library scene) and Ava could've either seen her type in the password, installed keystroke tracking software etc. (the mansion being hers she has easy access to all rooms, thus MC's computer and she looks young and tech savvy enough).
4. It's unlikely a multiple person job, it would take too much coordination in too little time (as Genevieve pointed out). The article was out incredibly fast and there is no way it could have been written this fast this detailed and well? It's more likely the article was a WIP updated whenever MC found out sth new
5. Ava has a fitting motive. She obviously wants the estaste and if MC betrayed her, she wouldn't be at fault for the failure of the relationship, her grandma wouldn't be able to blame it on her being irresponsible and it's unlikely they'd punish her by not giving her the mansion after this whole fiasco. However, all along the plan was for MC to break it off after her birthday and she still would've had the mansion, which leads me to her other potential motive:
6. Ava needed a way to not get the book published. Either it was her plan from the beginning, or she had the idea while their fake engagement unfolded. The book would've dug up a lot of dirt on the family and would've maybe ruined their public image. That's one thing, the other is that since MC would have published the book, everyone would have known it was her fiancee and with their breakup having been soon after her birthday, suspicion might have arisen.
7. Hugo is obviously still a suspect, considering the way he was behaving he either was in on it or knew something, but I definitely don't think it was his doing (what Genevieve said, plus he doesn't have access to MCs laptop, there's no way he would've been able to write an article this long this fast with this much information, some which is nearly impossible for him to know etc.)
Honestly I have no idea why Ava would do sth like that if she really ends up being the culprit, I don't want her to be it either, I love her too much. I also don't know how they would reconcile MC and Ava with the book being single LI and all. But she's the only one who I imagine could realistically have done this. Nigel could be a potential suspect, but he has nothing to gain from this and afaik he's not into the whole nobles and high society whatever thing.
The diamond scene in Ava's appartment would obviously speak against all this (and her behaviour at the ball and the moments where they looked like they were in love), but we know Ava is a good actress, after all she is selling the whole fake fiancee schmick incredibly well; it could also be regret of course
What might also be noteworthy: in her diamond scene in her appartment, when MC says: "[...] I'm going to find out who's really behind this. [...] [Y]ou can trust me." She asnwers: "...Can you?" with her shocked/surprised sprite. Instead of asking 'Can I?' and referring to MC saying she can trust her, she refers to MC saying she'll find the culprit. Also, by using a shocked sprite it suggests she is worried, or didn't expect this outcome, when it would make more sense for her to be relieved at MC's dedication to solve this, for which they would've/should've used a smiling sprite, maybe with a grey background. (Although this paragraph makes me feel like I'm reaching (a bit))
