Warriors Orochi: The Recollective Redux Part 5.2: Samurai Warriors Side Stages
Chapter 2-X: Battle of Kawanakajima 川中島の戦い
Coalition Army and Ma Chao Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Nobunaga Oda, Huang Zhong, Mitsuhide Akechi Third-party characters: Ma Chao, Peasant x 5 Enemy characters: Sima Yi, Zhang Chunhua, Sima Shi, Sima Zhao, Wang Yuanji, Jia Chong, Zhuge Dan, Zhong Hui, Deng Ai, Dong Zhuo, Ieyasu Tokugawa
Unlockable character: Ma Chao
Clear Chapter 1 to unlock this stage.
Nobunaga arrived at Kawanakajima to find a warrior bravely leading his army against Orochi’s forces. It was Ma Chao, one of the legendary Five Tiger Generals of Shu. He was attempting to keep the citizens of the area safe, leading them to Zenkōji. However, the Orochi Army was led by Sima Yi. Nobunaga moved to their aid after being urged by Huang Zhong.
At the start of the battle, Sima Zhao will appear in place of Wang Shuang, Wang Yuanji will appear in place of Zhong Hui and Jia Chong will appear in place of Guo Huai. Zhuge Dan will appear in place of Wang Lang, Sima Shi will appear in place of the generic Sima Zhao and Zhang Chunhua will appear in place of Xin Pi. Zhong Hui will appear in place of Niu Jin when he appears alongside Deng Ai as ambush troops inside the Stone Sentinel Maze.
Defeat Sima Yi and guide the peasants to Zenkōji to win the battle.
To unlock Ma Chao, ensure that all peasants reach Zenkōji.
Chapter 3-X: Battle of Xiapi 下邳の戦い
Coalition Army and Lu Xun Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Nobunaga Oda, Mitsuhide Akechi, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Kazumasu Takigawa Third-party characters: Lu Xun Enemy characters: Cao Ren, Zhang Liao, Xu Huang, Mitsunari Ishida, Yue Jin, Li Dian, Yoshitsugu Ōtani
Unlockable character: Lu Xun
Clear Chapter 2 to unlock this stage.
Lu Xun led a resistance unit comprised of Wu soldiers who refused to side with Orochi under any circumstances. Sun Ce defeated him initially at Changban, but Orochi sent out Cao Ren to surround him at Xiapi Castle.
Mitsunari Ishida will replace Guo Jia and Li Dian will replace Xu Shu in this battle.
To unlock Lu Xun, escort him to your main camp and complete the battle with your allies still alive.
Chapter 4-X: Battle of Sishui Gate 汜水関の戦い
Coalition Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Okuni, Zhang Jiao, Hanbei Takenaka Enemy characters: Koshōshō, Dong Zhuo, Ina, Lu Lingqi, Lu Bu
Unlockable character: Koshōshō
Clear Chapter 3 to unlock this stage.
Dong Zhuo served Orochi for one reason and one reason only: gold. Orochi was having gold transported to him “for military funding use”. Hearing of this, Hideyoshi Toyotomi gathered an army to ambush the supply units…
This is one of few stages where the unlockable character is different from the original. This was done to maintain Dong Zhuo’s status as a staunch officer of the Orochi Army (and to account for future appearances in other stories).
Hanbei Takenaka will appear in place of Kanbei Kuroda in this battle. Koshōshō will appear as an additional officer in Dong Zhuo’s main camp. Zhang Ji will appear with the first supply captain and Lu Lingqi will take his place to appear with the second supply captain. Lu Bu will continue to appear with the third supply captain.
In the original version, Dong Zhuo will lose faith in Orochi when his gold doesn’t arrive, but in this version, he will proclaim revenge on the Coalition Army while Koshōshō will become intrigued by them. Defeat Koshōshō and Dong Zhuo to win the battle.
To unlock Koshōshō, defeat all supply captains before they reach Dong Zhuo.
Chapter 5-X: Battle of Nagashino 長篠の戦い
Coalition Army and Takeda-Uesugi Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Huang Zhong, Guan Ping Third-party characters: Shingen Takeda, Kenshin Uesugi, Kanetsugu Naoe, Kagekatsu Uesugi Enemy characters: Cao Pi, Sun Quan, Cao Ren, Zhou Tai, Lianshi, Ding Feng, Li Dian, Motonari Mōri, Takakage Kobayakawa, Yoshitsugu Ōtani, Yue Jin
Unlockable character: Cao Ren
Clear Chapter 5 to unlock this stage.
Shingen Takeda and Kenshin Uesugi advanced upon Nagashino, hoping to draw the full attention of the Orochi Army. Their plan worked; Orochi transferred his primary forces from Guandu to Nagashino, leaving Guandu dangerously undermanned.
If Nobunaga were to take advantage of this opportunity and attack Guandu, then a mortal blow could be dealt to Orochi’s ambitions. For this reason, Shingen and Kenshin were prepared to sacrifice themselves. But just as they were prepared to ride to their deaths, help came from an unexpected quarter…
Takakage Kobayakawa will appear with Zhu Huan and Hao Zhao as they attack the Takeda-Uesugi main camp at Nagashino Castle, while Motonari Mōri will appear with Yue Jin and Hiroie Kikkawa as they attack the Tobigasu Garrison. Lianshi and Ding Feng will appear as additional units outside the Orochi Army main camp at Shitaragahara. Li Dian will replace Takatora Tōdō in this battle. Kagekatsu Uesugi will appear with Kanetsugu Naoe when the main cavalry arrives.
During the battle, Cao Ren will be wondering how they can fight if they are prepared to discard their lives to defeat Orochi. To unlock him, rescue Shingen and Kenshin within 5 minutes (originally 2), then defeat him by yourself (preferably while you are escorting the cavalry units to the Maruyama Garrison).
Chapter 6-X: Showdown at Odawara Castle 小田原城決戦 (uses SW2 west map)
Coalition Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Nobunaga Oda, Huang Zhong, Hideyoshi Toyotomi Enemy characters: Zhuge Liang, Sima Yi, Jia Xu, Hisahide Matsunaga, Munenori Yagyū, Ina, Sun Shangxiang, Guan Suo, Ding Feng, (Aya)
Unlockable character: Aya (secret mission)
Clear Chapter 6 to unlock this stage.
Having seized the Orochi Army fortress at Guandu, Nobunaga’s army was riding the crest of a wave. Just at this time, news filtered through of a rebellion against Orochi led by Cao Pi and Mitsunari Ishida at Odawara Castle. The forces of the Orochi Army in Odawara had been severly depleted through the ongoing battle. Nobunaga immediately dispatched a unit to aid the rebellion, thinking that such a golden opportunity should not be overlooked.
Jia Xu will appear among the ambush units in the southern garrison, while Hisahide Matsunaga and Munenori Yagyū will appear among the ambush units in the northern garrison.
Aya can be unlocked in this battle after completing a secret mission, which can be unlocked by defeating Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi after foiling their plans.
See through Sima Yi’s ambush plan by defeating both Yellowbelly and Urutu before they arrive at the northern and southern garrisons. Then see through Zhuge Liang’s empty castle plan by rushing into the central garrison (Mt Ishigaki) alone before your allies do. After defeating Ina and Sun Shangxiang, resume fighting as normal.
After Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi retreat, Aya will appear in an event, explaining that she got lost while she was fleeing the Orochi Army’s attack. She managed to find the Coalition Army and seeing their skill in foiling Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi’s plans, wants to test their skill before she joins them. Defeat Aya in the secret mission and win the battle.
Chapter 7-X: Battle of Kanegasaki 金ヶ崎の戦い
Coalition Army and Honda Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Huang Zhong, Okuni, Xiaoqiao, Kanbei Kuroda Third-party characters: Tadakatsu Honda Enemy characters: Masamune Date, Kojūrō Katakura, Motonari Mōri, Takakage Kobayakawa, Chen Gong, Yu Jin, Jia Xu, Zhuge Dan, Lu Bu
Unlockable character: Tadakatsu Honda (4/4)
Clear Chapter 6-X to unlock this stage.
Orochi sent his closest ally, Masamune Date, to the headquarters of the Resistance in Kanegasaki. If Kanegasaki were to fall, it would mean the end of the resistance. In addition, a fatal blunder had been made, leaving Huang Zhong with a very small defense unit…
On the Orochi Army side, Koroku Hachisuka is replaced by another generic officer because why would he be an enemy when he appears as an ally in Chapter 6-X and 8-X? Kojūrō Katakura will appear as an additional officer next to Masamune Date, while Motonari Mōri and Takakage Kobayakawa appear in place of Zhang He and Guo Jia in this battle.
Enemy reinforcements led by Yu Jin, Jia Xu and Zhuge Dan will arrive when the messenger escapes the battlefield or is defeated; in the case of the former, it will provide the Coalition Army with more enemies to defeat so when the allied reinforcements arrive, it doesn’t look like they came for nothing. Kanbei Kuroda will appear in place of Morichika Chōsokabe among the allied reinforcements. Also, the allied reinforcements will arrive two minutes after the messengers escape instead of three minutes.
This is one of four battles required to unlock Tadakatsu Honda. To impress him, guide the messenger to the northeastern garrison as usual. Defeat Lu Bu yourself and allow the messenger to escape. Wait for the allied reinforcements to arrive, then defeat Masamune to win the battle.
An additional condition in the original game was that none of your allies could be defeated, but that condition has been removed in this version.
Chapter 8-X: Battle of Baidi Castle 白帝城の戦い
Coalition Army and Nō Army vs. Orochi Army Allied characters: Nobunaga Oda, Hanbei Takenaka Third-party characters: Nō, Cao Cao Enemy characters: Kotarō Fūma, Lu Bu, Orochi, Da Ji, Diamondback
Unlockable character: Lu Bu (4/4)
In Chapter 7, get 1000 KOs to unlock this stage.
Baidi Castle was one of the Orochi Army’s main strongholds. Forced to respond to other uprisings, Orochi had left this castle undermanned. Coordinating with his wife, Lady Nō, who had been freed by Sun Ce, Nobunaga organised a pincer attack on the castle. Just when the castle seemed likely to fall, however, Nobunaga received news that Orochi had sent an enormous force to welcome him…
Hanbei Takenaka is replaced by a generic officer in this battle. Yoshimasa Oka and Morishige Tsuchihashi are replaced by other generic officers because the Saika Renegades should be with Shu.
Orochi will appear in this battle if Chapter 8 has been cleared.
This is one of four battles required to unlock Lu Bu. To impress him, just defeat him without running away from him.

Who are your favorite characters of Dynasty Warriors? Do you have any ships?
Hey, thanks for the ask! Am not the greatest with words but i’ll do my best to get my points across in simple ways.
I do have a few favorites across each kingdom. From Wu would be Xu Sheng & Lu Xun; From Wei Cai Wenji; Wen Yang, Wang Yuanji and Xin Xianying from Jin; Lu lingqi from Others. As for Shu, Jiang Wei and Ma Chao, and my top favorite of all- Has always been and still is Zhao Yun.
I admit, his looks got me good back in DW5 (and movesets). I also admit that Koei didn’t give him enough personality aside from being brave and loyal. So perhaps it isn’t so much of an in game factor that made me fell for him so hard; I’ve been using DW as an escape and naturally he became a.. Comfort character.
To me he did get some upgrade from DW7 onwards, not just in terms of characteristics but expressions + body language as well. Although i’ve not played DW7, but from bits of information/cutscenes show that he is in fact a very motherly figure- The kind of dad that would sit down and have tea party with his kids, combing/tying his kids’ hair or have a pillow talk with them at night. While in DW8′s ambition mode, his stables dialogue hinted that he can be equally compassionate towards animals. I have a soft spot for tough guys who are gentle with little creatures, SO YEA THAT GOT ME AGAIN.
And in DW9, his interaction with Zhou Cang, judgmental much? Lol. Never thought i’d see him that way. Plus, this installment would be the first time i’ve seen him express this much amount of sorrow, especially that post-Yiling cutscene. I like to see him as not being afraid to show emotions, crying isn’t weak at all. The way he gets more and more humane, I like that.
As for ships, generally all of the canon couples have their own special dynamics. If I had to pick one it would be Zhang Chunhua and Sima Yi. Chunhua is an alluring woman, intimidating mom and wife at the same time. She don’t (only) appear for the sake of fan service, she actually compliments Sima Yi and gave him a whole new role as a dad and husband. We even get to explore more interesting sides of him thanks to her.
The non-canon couple I adore is Yu jin x Cai wenji. DW8XL’s stage, definitely that to blame. A stern man paired with a sweet, oblivious lady, the contrast in their characters is so amusing. Wenji being dense while Yu Jin wants to be mad at her but he can’t. What cute dorks :”D Imagine Yu Jin being so flustered that he can’t seem to function whenever Wenji does something cute. Simply present him a flower and he shall short circuit.
That should be all. Hopefully you find this an okay read, appreciate your ask! Was going to return the favor but i think it’s obvious that the answer to your favorite is Xun You lol.

(Wei) DW Modern Au Western Names
This was part of an old fanfic concept that never took off because I guess I was a wuss/got lazy/lost steam and I’m just dumping one of the ideas here I really oddly put more effort into which is what would (Wei) DW characters pick as their Western names (they were working for a company that recently placed its headquarters in the US, so they would need to pick their names)
if you’re still with me, i guess you can go here where i dumped these ideas, foolishly believing that I would someday come back to this
The bit where everyone picked their names was mostly by using a baby book/websites for baby names. There are some exceptions.
Cao Cao - Alexander (originally picked Ambition, but was told that it was not a real name in the West by Xun Yu)
Cao Pi - Leon (liked that it sounded similar to “lion”, I thought his hair is kinda similar to Resident Evil Leon when it was short)
Xiahou Dun - Johnathan (he wasn’t very creative at the time he picked the name nor trying to be)
Xiahou Yuan - Jason (Like Dun, he wasn’t trying to be that picky and thought of the first common name he had heard of)
Dian Wei - David (he flipped through the baby book and placed his finger on a random spot and went with the name that he think sounded good to him)
Xu Chu - Max (the simplest name of them all)
Cao Ren - Austin (he used Cao Cao’s chosen name as a starting point, so he just searched around in the A’s)
Zhang He - Sebastian (sounds pretty, was also leaning to Maximillian)
Xu Huang - Robert (Originally chose John because he wasn’t too picky, but was discouraged from getting similar names, just then settled for a plain professional-sounding name)
Zhang Liao - Eric (don’t think i made a reason, he probably just picked what was the most popular baby name)
Pang De- Kevin (don’t think i made a reason, possibly just went on a website to pick the first name on there)
Zhen Ji - Monica (she just liked how pretty it sounded)
Cai Wenji - Daisy (she just liked how it sounded)
Wang Yi - Michelle (she did not want to go with a flower-based name, but still wanted something nice)
Jia Xu - He actually did not have one during when the fic was going to take place since he had recently retired, so it was never revealed nor ever thought of.
Guo Jia - Jack (It sounded similar to “Jia”, his original name. Another idea was that he picked that name after watching Titanic, so that people will be confused about why would he name himself after the guy who drowns in the end. I also wanted to make a Metal Gear/Raiden reference)
Yue Jin - Justin (I don’t think I made a reason for him during development) not all of them have some special reasons behind their names lol
Li Dian - Jake (I think I just wanted to make him Jake because of Brooklyn 99)
Yu Jin - Edward/Eugene (He wanted Edward, but many people suggested Eugene because... you know. He still goes by Edward and prefers it, but is called Eugene by people trying to pronounce his Chinese name/his friends jokingly as a nickname)
Xun Yu - Charles (he was born in a British Chinatown must make him british til the end , so he already had a Western name on top of his Chinese name. I also just wanted to make an X-men reference because Charles X. if written that way. No, you may not call him Mr. X or Charlie )
(Xun You, Cao Xiu, and Man Chong did not debut during the time I was developing this, but I can give them names too for the hell of it)
Xun You - William (he would be born in the same place Xun Yu was and given a super British name)
Man Chong - Mike (He would like the sound and simplicity of Mike)
Cao Xiu - Alan (he wanted Alex because Cao Cao, but was discouraged to get similar names)
I also had Sima Yi and Zhang Chunhua’s names because it was going to be from their POV.
Sima Yi - Henry (He chose John because he didn’t care and thought that sounded decent enough, but was discouraged from taking it Xiahou Dun sure screwed everyone over)
Zhang Chunhua - Rose (well, her name meant “flower” already, she had an easy job there)
I distinctly remember I was planning to have other factions’ characters get Western names if they somehow pop up, but never got to that stage.
#hope this was a decent read#if you went through it#if not#then hello#pls continue to ignore#shit#fanfic shit#fanfic references#my intense bias shows through this#dynasty warriors#i probably had to fill in some gaps in my memory#some of these had to be invented on the spot since i forgot about a third of what i developed here#the more detailed some of these are they are most likely what i remembered#idea dump

Answer the following for your muse so people know how shipping works on your blog. REPOST. DON’T REBLOG.
tagged by: @boldxvirtue (thank you friend! and I hope you enjoyed that scene analysis :3c) tagging: @zxtsubo, @thekingofsadness, @jinglebellpirate, @narcasse, and whoever else!
what’s your otp for your muse?
I hold Xun’s relationships with Takakage and Ling Tong in equally high regards due to how their relationships have developed through RP
what are you willing to rp when it comes to shipping?
Romantic, platonic, crack , weird friendships that somehow work out, etc. I’m pretty open, but romantic ships take more time given Xun’s demeanor. He’s often too busy to focus on romance, after all, but god, does he need friends.
how large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?
Since Xun’s a minor, shipping with much older muses won’t be happening. n/sfw things won’t happen on this blog either, so it shouldn’t be an issue.
are you selective when shipping?
I can be picky, but if they have some common traits with Xun, there are possibilities. I don’t actively seek out ships though.
how far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered n.sfw?
If hands start roaming to places, then I’ll start considering it. But I don’t include n/sfw content on this blog, so I don’t think I’ll have such encounters
who are other muses you ship your muse with?
mm well we got the two gongjis ( @lazy-sarcasm and @chxdan ), and I’m mindful in treating the two differently to avoid confusion~ You can’t forget the taka-nerdo ( @oath-of-three-arrows ). Also, I’ve been talking with @crimsontigerlord a lot lately, and so I’m warming up to Xun and Sun Quan ^^ I’m not sure if it’s a “ship”, per say, but Xun and Yu Jin ( @severemarquis ) have this mutual friendship-thing goin’ on, and it somehow works lol
I’ve yet to warm up to female muses because Xun’s occupied with work and birbs. I don’t think he spends much time around women in general when he’s younger, but of course, this changes when he’s an adult. I’ve considered making a verse with adult!xun, but I haven’t had the time yet. ^^; If I did, would anyone be interested in interaction? I know it can be difficult with a teen muse.
does one have to ask to ship with you?
It’d definitely help if you brought up a possible idea, as I’m not the type who actively seeks out ships. Rather, I enjoy seeing how muses develop naturally; if they don’t mesh, then they don’t mesh. I can certainly help with brainstorming ideas!
how often do you like to ship?
whenever I feel like it, I suppose? :0
are you multiship?
Ya
are you ship obsessed or ship more-or-less?
I’m not obsessed, but once I’m into shipping hell, I’m not comin’ back
what is your favorite ship in your current fandom?
I was pleasantly surprised to see Xun and Takakage’s relationship develop through RP, as it wasn’t planned at all. They meshed so well bc wow books, and it’s just wonderful to have someone to confide in, someone who understands you so closely. I adore Ling Tong and Lu Xun because, while their personalities are quite different, they play off each other’s strengths, if that makes sense? They support each other in their own ways, and it’s precious <3 Aside from what I’ve mentioned above, I’m also like Sun Quan x Zhou Tai, Yue Jin x Li Dian, and Sima Yi x Zhang Chunhua
finally, how does one ship with you?
I think chemistry or some other dynamic is most important. If muses don’t mesh well, then I’d rather let it go than force myself. I want to assure that I’m open to ideas! Whatever vibe I give off.. I hope it doesn’t scare people off, idk. It’s something I worry about at times, but the most I’d do is politely decline.

Ieyasu bravely plunged into the inferno to rescue as many as he could…
The battlefield will be on fire throughout this stage. There will be various people trying to escape, from peasants, lady samurai and handmaidens to the village chief and even Yoshimoto Imagawa. Enemies will come every time an escaping unit appears. Defeat those enemies to aid their escape. When they successfully escape, they will offer gifts to the player.

Zhang Chunhua will appear in place of Guo Huai in the western garrison. Motonari Mōri and Takakage Kobayakawa will appear in place of Zhang He and Niu Jin as you approach the gate to the eastern garrison.

Chapter 6-X: Battle of Ōsaka Bay 大坂湾の戦い

Unlockable character: Lu Lingqi
Clear Chapter 6 to unlock this stage.

This is one of few stages where the unlockable character is different from the original. This was done to maintain Keiji’s status as a staunch officer of the Orochi Army (and to account for future appearances in other stories).
Lu Lingqi appears in place of Keiji Maeda in this stage. Lu Su appears in place of Zhu Zhi as the first allied reinforcement unit to arrive.
Every couple of minutes, Lu Meng will make an announcement that reinforcements are arriving, at which point you need to head to the main camp and sound the drum, otherwise Masanobu Honda will sound the drum for you after one minute. You will need to guide the allied reinforcements to the enemy main camp while defending the allied main camp from the enemy.
Yoshimoto Imagawa will also appear, without having to sound the war drum, a couple of minutes after Hanzō arrives. Guide him to the enemy camp as well.
To unlock Lu Lingqi, have all allied officers (with or without Yoshimoto) arrive at the gates of the enemy camp within 20 minutes and defeat her to win the battle. If this has not been met after 20 minutes, Lu Lingqi will take her chances with her father and Orochi.

Unlockable character: Lu Bu (3/4)
In Chapter 7, rescue Sun Jian and Sun Quan within 7 minutes of the start of battle to unlock this stage. This was originally 3 minutes but all the message spam in the game would potentially prevent it from happening unless you paused the game until the voice line finished.
The Sun family was reunited again, but Orochi gathered all his soldiers at Chibi, hoping to stop them from reaching Koshi Castle. Ieyasu and Sakon advanced in an attempt to wipe out the Orochi Army…
Ranmaru Mori appears in place of Zhu Zhi and Naotora Ii appears in place of Chunyu Qiong in this battle. Kojūrō Katakura appears in the northeast part of the battlefield. Yang Qiu appears in place of Zhu Ran as well.
Orochi will appear in this battle if Chapter 8 has been cleared.
This is one of four battles required to unlock Lu Bu. To impress him, just defeat him without running away from him. However, if you confront Orochi/Da Ji without going near Lu Bu, he will charge upon the allied main camp.

The Pale Shade of Blue hits 10k words
I didn’t bother making separate posts for every new chapter but yeah, we’re already at 10k words in roughly three days in The Pale Shade of Blue.
I said wrt The Instructress that a work had never flown out of my typing fingers so fast but this has made even that look slow.
Maybe for my next work I will levitate over my laptop and beam the completed story directly to AO3. That would be nice.
The latest chapter of TPSoB is the infamous murder of their maid to prevent Sima Yi’s paralysis ruse from being discovered. This was actually the scene that I wrote first, so I was really pumped to get to it.
That [Sima Yi] had his head in a noose that he had tied himself was certain; the only question was how many other people who were going to suffer from this. Chunhua, without question, though her pregnancy might save her… no, what was he bothering with false hope? Emperor Xian’s wife had been pregnant when Cao Cao had ordered her killed for her father’s crimes, and Cao Cao had not even delayed having her strangled, even when the emperor himself tried to intercede for her. If Cao Cao did not spare the unborn child of an emperor, what hope was there for his child?
The rain suddenly petered out and then stopped. The sun shone again, as if nothing had ever happened. The birds sang again. In the branches of the tree nearest his window, magpies had made a nest, and the pleasant scene seemed to be mocking him all the more.
His brothers… their families…?
Lost in these terrible thoughts, he did not know how much time had passed when he heard the door swing open behind him.
Sima Yi whirled around, irrationally terrified that the noise was Cao Cao’s goons there already to drag him away, but it was not.
It was Chunhua. Chunhua with an angelic smile, face splattered with blood that had soaked into her collar. Blood dripped from her hands, and from them, she was idly twirling a piece of wire.
“Husband,” she said, “I have eliminated the immediate threat, but it is time for you to end this charade. You have talents, exceptional talents. I also have talents, and I am going to use my talents to make you use yours. If not for Lord Cao Cao, then for someone else. And you are going to choose how today.”
“Chunhua,” he breathed, “did you kill her?”
The smile got a tiny bit wider. “Yes.”
“Where’s the body?”
“In the kitchen furnace.”
Sima Yi let out a short, disbelieving laugh; disbelieving not in her capability, but in his own luck at having so narrowly escaped doom. He had not even thought about killing the maid… His wife was really terrifying. “Chunhua, you saved my life.”
“Yes.” She dropped the wire carelessly and approached him; she had never looked sexier. “Are you going to make it one worth saving?”
“I will,” he promised; she was closer and closer still. “I’ll write to Lord Cao Cao—”
After that: filth. >:3

“The Pale Shade of Blue” (Sima Yi x Zhang Chunhua, rated E)
@staroftara is to blame for this one being thrown up onto AO3 so soon.
Title inspired by the lyrics of The Birthday Massacre’s song “Blue”, which could practically be the Dynasty Warriors Jin faction anthem:

This is the music Jia Chong listens to, and that’s just facts.
Fate changes faster than the death of light You supply the envy and I'll provide the spite Reflections cutting every face in two Casting shadows in the pale shade of blue
Like it’s the exact colour and everything! Wild.
Read the tags and the opening note! This one is going to be exactly what it says on the tin!!! Also, the fact that I have it tagged “love at first sight” AND “hate at first sight” is not a mistake. Guess which one is which!!! Oh boy!!!

Me at the end note of ch. 5 of The Pale Shade of Blue: “Up through the end of this chapter is where I had strong inspiration, so I have no idea how long it will take me to write the next chapter.”
Me three days later: I have some more garbage
“Husband,” she said, and then again, “husband,” looking into his eyes, and just in that moment she looked vulnerable, like someone who could actually be hurt, and he knew that he would kill a thousand people rather than let that happen, he knew that he could do it, that deaths were going to come but that the two of them were going to protect each other.
“My dear,” he whispered, qin’ai, intimate and beloved.
One place that the Chinese language and I are totally on the same wave length is that Chinese language/culture is, and apparently for thousands and thousands of years has been, totally down with pet names and endearments. Modern Chinese culture (more on the mainland, to be fair) makes it acceptable to use pet names with total strangers, and I’m down with that.
But of course pet names with people you’re actually intimate with are more special, and I’m down with that too. The Japanese version of Dynasty Warriors has Zhang Chunhua call her husband the non-pet name per se danna-sama, an extremely respectful/submissive way to address one’s husband, more like saying “my lord husband” than anything English would commonly allow (Sakura calls Sasuke this... sigh). It’s meant as an irony, of course, because haha, Sima Yi is whipped, get it, get it??? And while in Japanese Sima Yi mostly calls her by her given name, Shunka as it’s pronounced in Japanese, in the English translation he inevitably calls her my dear, again, haha, get it, he actually is just afraid of her and doesn’t even like her, haha ha, ha, ha.
So I freely borrowed from both of these. I imagine that Chunhua calls him 郎君 langjun, an archaic way to refer to one’s husband that is very much like danna-sama, in terms of being very submissive, but is a little more romantic because both lang and jun have associated notions of being a perfect noble gentleman, whereas danna is, uh, more like a master in the capitalistic sense.
Meanwhile Sima Yi calls her 亲爱 qin’ai, usually translated as “dear” or “darling”, qin “intimate, close, also adverb intimately, closely” ai “love”.
Dynasty Warriors, Chinese history generally: Women ain’t shit and any woman who dares to try to be shit will get shit on instead

The Instructress 女史箴 Ch 5 update
The Instructress 女史箴, Sima Zhao x Wang Yuanji alternate history fic, has updated with chapter 5, in which I indulge myself shamelessly with how much I love one (1) ancient Chinese murder family:
“I am glad I decided to run my speech by you in advance,” [Sima] Shi said. “While here in private, I enjoy your laughter, you would rather spoil my effect if you laughed at me in court.”
[Sima] Zhao lifted his hands out dramatically to either side of his head and mock-bowed. “That would be a tragedy.”
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
[Sima Yi] had a wheelchair made to take him to the banquet, which he complained about bitterly. “Now that I have this, fools will expect me to do things and go places. A wheelchair is why Zhuge Liang died so young.”
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
“Your little dog, Jia Chong, was yapping quite a bit in Shouchun, I have discovered.”
...Your little dog. What an epithet for Jia Chong! [Sima Zhao] would need time to figure out what his brother meant by that...
“But you didn’t tell me that he told you he had encouraged Zhuge Dan to think of you as an ambitious scoundrel who was scheming under benefit of my name.” His brother still smiled.
He couldn’t lie to his brother’s face believably, which meant he was stuck with the unbelievable truth. “I didn’t want to think about it myself. It’s all such a damn mess. Jia Chong has these ideas, and…”
“Not a trained dog, is he,” Shi said mildly...
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
“How unusually tender of you, Chunhua,” Sima Yi said, trading his inner gown for the shift she brought him to sleep in. “If I had only known it merely took me being on the brink of death to expose your soft side to me.”
“A man as perceptive as my lord,” she said, putting the inner gown into the laundry basket, “must have long known about it.”
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
“We are a remarkable family, Zhao. It should not surprise you that the strictures of ordinary people do not bind us.”
oh my goodness they’re so ruthless but they love each other and I’m weak

7, 10, 12 and 15 for sima yi x zhang chunhua
7. Which one is the worse (carriage) driver
The two of them don’t personally drive carriages, but when they have to, it’s usually Sima Yi. I’d have to say Chunhua has to be worse in terms of her experience in any actual carriage driving. She can ride a horse (damn right she’s married to one), but not drive a carriage where there would be two of them.
10. What TV shows they watch together, and which ones they hide from the other
They don’t seem like TV people. However, Chunhua may watch soap operas on her own time because she doesn’t want Sima Yi judging her. He knows she does and yes, does judge her in the form of teasing.
12. What they do for their anniversary
SIma Yi tries to set up something that Chunhua would approve of and like. Usually it’s a nice dinner at home, hoping their sons aren’t in the house at the time. Then he would take her out for an evening walk and outing in the garden they have. They talk with each other about current events and how time has passed for them, fairly wide range of topics.
15. What they would change about each other
Zhang Chunhua would like for Sima Yi to be more sensitive and perhaps cut out his anger issues.
Sima Yi would like for Chunhua to be less demanding of him and naggy. However, he knows she worries about him, so he can’t exactly blame her. Perhaps something about her controlling nature.

S I M A :p
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
This excerpt from a fic of mine demonstrates my personal headcanon of how unpleasant Lu Bu and Sima Yi are to the general public of DW:
(second line there was said by Xun You)
(also Xun Yu tells it like it is)
I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
I don’t think so. When I stop liking a fandom, Tumblr is usually never on my mind. (Then again, I’ve had this for like 4 years, 2 and a half of those years were on hiatus) If I had to say, it has made me dislike/hate certain fandoms. One of which is those “90s kids” and “90s that” and “i miss the 90s” posts. (That’s a fandom, right? It pretty much is considering how many there are.)
M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.
Just one? Xun Yu-nah he’d be too old to get my references/toilet humor. Guo Jia. He might be able to get my dumb jokes. No, he’ll die in a premature car crash/liver disease/syphilis (terrible friend) Man Chong. He’s bound to have the relaxed personality and have a likely chance of living as long as I do. We can share our ability to not give a fuck about how we dress.
A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
.....Xun Yu x Sima Yi....? It’s about one of the only gay ships I like. (that has a dead chinese fanbase) There’s also Sima Yi x Zhang Chunhua.
(you did this, PSP) :P -Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
DW AU where aliens have taken over to remove the Chinese monarchy and bureaucracy to install their own government that use the Chinese government as puppets. All of the known DW characters are either forced to work under the government or live as civilians. Or terrorists that want to remove the alien forces. (AKA the plot of Gintama)

Last one and of course your Dynasty Warriors list. ;p
Character I first fell in love with:I remember loving SSX when I played my very first DW. Too bad I don’t like her at all these days.Character I never expected to love as much as I do now:Sun Jian. He just keeps getting better ever since DW7 (didn’t play much DW6). Also Xun Yu because he’s better than your typical pretty boys of the series (Also because @justsittingherewatching makes me realize I have a thing for his crotch as well)Character everyone loves but I don’t:Ling Tong, Gan Ning, Lu Xun, Cao Pi. The first three never really appealed to me and last one becomes eh as the series goes on.Character I love but everyone else hates:I actually like Zhang Jiao for being over the top silly with his speech. But if we’re going underrated characters then it’s Sun Jian. Come on, this guy deserves way more love than he gets by the fandom!Character I used to love but don’t any longer:As mentioned in the first part, SSX. I actually used to like the whole Shu characters but now they’re just garbage to me with few exceptions there.Character I would kiss:I’m taking tiger daddy Jian. You can’t make me not take him. I’d kiss Xun You and blue angel sweetie Wenji too. Character I want to slap:I really, really, REALLY want to slap Jiang Wei for his delusional righteousness or whatever.A pairing I love:Hmm the pairing I actually like is Sima Zhao X Yuanji since I actually see them as friends rather than strangled by the red string. Sima Yi X Zhang Chunhua and Meng Huo pretty X Zhurong are nice too.A pairing I hate:Cao Pi X Zhenji is just UUURRGHH with the latter being so blindly devoted to the former to the point she doesn’t have any other outside interest. That said I also hate Liu Bei X SSX.

The fic has been updated twice and has started to get into the kinky shit. A lighthearted version of what occurs in chapter three:
Zhang Chunhua: *slaps Sima Yi*
Sima Yi: ...do that again.
Zhang Chunhua: Do you have a boner?!
Sima Yi: I can’t help it! That is so crazy. No one’s ever slapped me before! Oh my God.
