Empresses in the Palace
ep 26
Hai Fei absolutely going through it when everyone can get pregnant but her. The narrative shows us how her experiences have made her cold & cruel. It doesn't excuse any of her actions, just underlines what this environment does to people.
Zhen Huan totally gonna lose that baby to the unseen enemy
lmao Zhen Huan > Ling Rong > Empress is a great image of the chinese idiom 螳螂捕蝉黄雀在后 the mantis stalks the cicada, while the oriole follows behind
ep 27
Mei Zihuang and the emperor make the most awkward exes.
Hey babe, you still look fucked up from the solitary confinement & plague.
Yep I am.
Welp, this is uncomfortable. When you're healthy, I'll send for you to lie back & think of china while I bang. ✌
Emperor appears to take serious consideration of the feedback & info that ZH provides him, in a way that he doesn't listen to most of the harem. Only the empress. And it's because she's very well-read and less volatile than, say, Hua Fei. But I think this is a double edged sword. Eventually she'll give the wrong advice and suspicion will turn on her.
Physician Wen's star is rising because those fail doctors just can't stop begging for death smh.
ngl the emperor just telling his handy murder guy to go murder the 2 doctors was badass. and then when he fronts to Hua Fei AHAHAHA
Mei Zihuang at her besties banquet looking like a funeral goer. Girl, fuck that man but ZH needs some love and protection right now. The whole palace is gunning for her.
Prince Guo pulled out all the stops for his crush's bday.
Still love Hua Fei to death but my darling, can you not see there might an entirely NON-ROMANCE reason your mother hasn't been promoted higher? 🤔🤔🤔
nooooooooo how can this be?! I finally get to see my bb Hua Fei passing her secret messages in the palace and planning an assasination, but she's spied by the baby concubine!!! monkey paw curse activate.
Cao Guiren playing both sides. That's right, girl. Protect that toddler!
man I can't believe lil Chun got got just like that. I really expected it to be poison, with her foodie ways.

2023 Reading
I read a lot apparently! Below are my thoughts on the stories I've read so far this year. Also, if you’ve read a book and absolutely loved it, pitch it in the comments! Tell me why I should read it!
January
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K. Dick (4/5 stars)
This was a short read and overall I thought it was good. I thought the way the "andys" were characterized was particularly interesting. I think the book, despite being so short, was a filled with ideas and world building and what struck me is that those things didn't make the world feel more real. It felt as though those pieces of world-building served more to characterize our protagonists by way of their reaction to those ideas/religion/machines rather than serving to flesh out the world itself? Which is not necessarily bad, but idk, I guess I just wish the world felt more real or made a bit more sense to me.
The Mist in the Mirror by Susan Hill (3/5 stars)
I don't have a lot to say about this one. It was fine. Susan Hill is pretty good at atmosphere. I found the ending unsatisfying.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (3.5/5 stars)
This one was also fine. And I know it's nit-picky but I cannot get over the mother letting Beth's pet bird die in order to make a point about the importance of doing chores? Beth is a child and the bird didn't need to starve to death. Fuck you, Marmee.
Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer (5/5 stars)
Look, you have to already like Twilight to like this book. If you don't like Twilight or have never read it, then this book will not be enjoyable. If, however, you have read and enjoyed the Twilight series, then this book is great! You get insight into the world of Twilight, of Edward's character, of his family's thoughts and how they interact, and a look at his dark years of human hunting.
February
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (5/5 stars)
I love this book. I love the drama, the devotion, the camp, the characters. I cannot judge this book objectively, therefore 5 stars. I reread it in honor of my upcoming vacation to the Forever Twilight in Forks festival and I'm so glad I did!
The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter (4/5 stars)
This is a collection of short stories. Each is a re-imagining of a fairy tale/legend. There was a lot of dark, feminine energy to these stories which I enjoyed. I would caution anyone who want to read the stories to first look up trigger warnings on storygraph, as the tales do get quite dark and gruesome at times.
The Blazing World by Margret Cavendish (3/5 stars)
This is a work of utopian science fiction written in 1666. It's short and not terribly interesting as a story but incredibly interesting as an early work of science fiction by a woman. Would recommend if you're interested in the history of genre fiction.
Beloved by Toni Morrison (3.5/5 stars)
This one was tough. The characters were brutal, their situations were brutal, and it was hard to read about. I did, however, like the narrative style and think it is an important work of fiction. I don't think it should be classified as a ghost story, as it often is.
The Bell Jar by Silvia Plath (4/5 stars)
This was a good book and a realistic depiction of what mental illness can look like. It was very much a downer though, especially with what we know about the author's life.
"A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor (undecided)
This is a short story. It does a good job of telling a story and allowing you to know the characters despite how short it is. I'm not sure how to rate is as I'm sure if I really "get" it.
Heretics of Dune by Frank Herbert (1/5 stars)
My gosh! I hated reading this. I didn't care for God Emperor of Dune either but I felt I'd read so much of the series that I might as well finish it out, after all there was only two more books to go. Well. I won't be finishing it out. I finished this book but I will not be reading Chapterhouse: Dune. I'm so over the weird pedophilia that just gets more prominent with each Dune book. And one of the greatest things about Dune is the worldbuilding, but so much time has passed between the first book and this one that we are no longer in the same world. I cared about that world from the first couple books, but this one? I don't care anymore. I don't care about the characters either.
Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson (3.5/5 stars)
This was a good coming of age story, although, to my relief, not very relatable. I found the story compelling but didn't care for the time jumps. I learned that it is partly autobiographical, which makes certain parts of the story make more sense.
The Vegetarian by Han Kang (3.5/5 stars)
This was alright. I get the appeal. It was distressing to read at times.
Vicky Angel by Jacqueline Wilson (2/5 stars)
Look, I just didn't like the book. I understand it's an exploration of childhood grief written for children and so I am certainly not the intended audience, but still, this was just not good. And the ending? Ugh.
March
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf (3/5 stars)
This is a stream of consciousness story with a few time jumps back and forth. I liked reading some parts, others not so much. It can get a bit dull at times. Iconic last lines.
The Complete Tales of Peter Rabbit and Friends by Beatrix Potter (3/5 stars)
As with many collections, there are some stories I enjoyed and some I did not. A couple that I thought I would not want read to any children in my life, which surprised me because these are such beloved stories.
The Word for World is Forest by Ursula K. Le Guin (4/5 stars)
Enjoyable but not my favorite. Not something I would revisit I think. Lots of themes here about colonization, military, environmentalism, etc. A bit heavy handed, but that doesn't really bother me when I agree with the message being set forth.
April
nothing. no books here. I read part of Kindred during this month but didn't finish it until early May.
May
Kindred by Octavia E. Butler (4/5 stars)
I've always meant to read Octavia Butler's books but I'm not sure this was the best one to start with. Nevertheless, it was good.
A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers (4/5 stars)
I liked this one much better than the first book in the series, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. It did drag on a bit at times. I also feel like a lot of the tension could have been resolved quickly by characters just talking to each other which drove me nuts.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne (3/5 stars)
It's not that this isn't a good book or an interesting work of early science fiction, it just dragged. I was so bored at times. This book took me so long to finish.
A Murder Is Announced by Agatha Christie (4.5/5 stars)
I can't quite bring myself to give this 5 stars. It was good though. As is always the case with Agatha Christie books, I did not guess the conclusion but feel as though I could have. Like there were probably enough hints, I just didn't pick up on them.
June
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (5/5 stars)
This was a very good read. Great atmosphere. I liked the way things were revealed. If you like a gothic tale or any of Shirley Jackson's other works, then certainly give this one a go.
I watched the movie in October and it was pretty faithful, as far as adaptations go. I did prefer the book.
August
New Moon by Stephanie Meyer (4/5 stars)
Look, is it as good as Twilight? No, but I still like it. I care about the characters and this book offered fun new additions to the world that Twilight introduced.
Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer (4/5 stars)
Second verse, same as the first.
The Knight, the Fool, and the Dead: Time Lord Victorious by Steve Cole (3/5 stars)
This was much shorter than I expected and ended in the middle of the story, which I didn't realize going in. It was fine. It's my first Doctor Who book and I didn't love it, which I am disappointed about.
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephanie Meyer (3.5/5 stars)
I do like this book, but it's not my favorite. I particularly liked the character of Freaky Fred and I'm glad I reread this book so that I could be reminded of him.
A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare (4/5 stars)
I watched a play adaptation as I read along, which I find really useful for me when reading Shakespeare. I have trouble imagining how the characters say a line, what they would be doing as they say it, etc. so watching helps me contextualize. I liked it. I thought it was funny. It wasn't perfect and I didn't love the wrap up but, overall, it was enjoyable.
The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare (2/5 stars)
I listened to the audio book rather than reading the play. I did not care for it. I thought the ending was fascinating but other than that, this was just not my cup of tea.
All Flesh is Grass: Time Lord Victorious by Una McCormack (3/5 stars)
This one was slightly better than the previous Doctor Who book, but I still didn't really care for it. It's hard to put my finger exactly on why though.
Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer (3.5/5 stars)
It pains me to give such a low rating to a book in a series I love so much, but this book is just not as good as the others. I still like it okay, but not like I love the others. Maybe she can redeem it in the next book. (That's right. I'm still holding out hope that we'll get another and it'll fix the bits I don't like about this one.)
September
The Body in the Library by Agatha Christie (4/5 stars)
I thought this one was quite good. I am bummed, as always, that I couldn't guess the killer.
Gigi and The Cat by Colette (3/5 stars)
This is actually two separate stories. I preferred Gigi I think, but both were solidly 3 stars. The most interesting thing was the little biography about Colette at the beginning of the book.
Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare (4/5 stars)
This one was enjoyable. Again, I did a read-along as I watched the play performed. It had some fantastic lines.
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn (3/5 stars)
Look up trigger warnings about this one before you read. The book was just okay. I guessed the ending pretty early on, which I've been led to understand is not usual for this book. I think is probably the mark of a good thriller writer if most people won't guess the ending/twist/killer/etc but you've included enough clues so that a small subset of the audience will. But it didn't make for a particularly interesting read if you're in the subset that picked up on the clues early. I also was very interested to see how the writer handled the issue of self-harm in the book. Still not sure how I feel about it.
October
Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie (3/5 stars)
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as I enjoyed the last Chrisie book I read, but it was okay I think. I read it because I wanted to watch the movie coming out, and I think murder mysteries are so much more interesting in book form.
Watched the movie and decided there’s no way this should be considered an adaptation of the book. A couple of names remain the same but the characters, their relationships, and the murders are so wildly different than they are in the book that I don’t even see the point of using the same names.
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (4/5 stars)
I liked it overall. I liked the characters. I think a little more development of our main two would have been nice. Controversial, but I did NOT like the meme references. Why would Harrow know the “studied the blade” joke? Also, why does Harrow know what a Cuckoo is? And apparently they’re all speaking English 10,000 years in the future because otherwise Gideon’s Sex Pal joke wouldn’t work. The ending made me sad.
Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (3/5 stars)
I liked the story overall and I think the AUs were fun, but I think they took up way too much of the book. I especially liked getting to see Gideon again and to hear her thoughts about what’s going on.
Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (3/5 stars)
Maybe this one’s on me, but I can’t figure out where the conversation with Jod is happening? It takes up half the book and I don’t understand it at all. It just feels like exposition dump. I’m really hoping I like the next one better.
Fingersmith by Sarah Waters (3/5 stars)
This isn’t a bad book, but it’s not really to my tastes. It’s a period drama and sapphic.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison (5/5 stars)
I’ve read this one before and it’s a favorite of mine. It’s slow moving and, when I first read it, was such a relieving break from all the grimdark fantasies that were everywhereeeee at the time. (This book came out when Game of Thrones was at its height in popularity.) this book is just nice and so is Maia.
All Systems Red by Martha Wells (5/5 stars)
I enjoyed this book. So much so, that I read the rest of the series and then immediately went back to reread it again. I like murderbot. I also want to face the wall in a corner when people try to ask me about my feelings.
Artificial Condition by Martha Wells (4/5 stars)
This one might be my least favorite of the murderbot diaries, but I still like it. (That being said, I think I’ll grow to like it more in time. After all, we get the foundation of MB and ARTs relationship.) It introduces ART, gives us more context for MB’s past, and allows for MB’s sense of self to develop. By the end, we (and it) have a much better understanding of how it feels about humans and what lengths it’s willing to go to. The book also gives much needed explanation about how MB manages to blend in and operate. So all in all, I like it but feel like it’s mostly just filling in gaps.
Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells (4/5 stars)
Another good one! Really challenging how MB views human/bot relationships. MB is such a funny narrator, it spends so much time being like “I don’t care” and then proceeds to care So Much. Also Miki <3
Exit Strategy by Martha Wells (5/5 stars)
Wooo!! The gang is back (partly). MB must face those it’s run away from! Weapons and hacking and emotional stand offs! What more could you want?
Network Effect by Martha Wells (5/5 stars)
This one might be my favorite. I really liked it. I love when a character goes feral because their friend is dead/in danger and this book does it TWICE. It’s so good!
Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells (4/5 stars)
This one is another gap filling book. It lets us see what MB got up to while on Preservation. Which, if you’re really interested in the character (which I am) then it’s a good read! Also we got to see Gurathin and Ratthi again and I love them both.

List of head-cannons/predictions what-ifs
I see WWDITS really succeeding when they subvert sitcom tropes, like introducing a baby to the married couple how they handled Colin Robinson
What I expect for Season 6 of WWDITS: parental drama, echoed in Laszlo-Colin. To mirror, for Guillermo:
- Silvia is a slayer
- Guillermo’s dad being involved in the supernatural, would really like if we keep with the new queer stories thing and it’s a new plot line but not the focus of the arc, hate when development gets fucked up by introduction of absent parent and queerness becomes a part of the reaction, seems old and trite though it do be like that sometimes
What I Dream:
- Silvia is a serial killer, master criminal. Guillermo grew up luring victims for her. Possibly mercy-killed Guillermo’s dad in front of him.
- Silvia is sick and Guillermo has to take care of her, lots of end of life decisions, questions of a good life and a good death to bring us back to the vampires. Nandor ‘helps’ is an excellent co-familiar caring for Silvia and Guillermo, their growing relationship is framed around questions of mortality, family, what we do for those we love.
My one true desire, Djinn-cursed wish, sorry-not-sorry in advance:
Guillermo gets cancer.
There’s so much room for dark humor and found family caring for people, god would it be soul healing to see a bunch of vampires flail handling the medical system and Guillermo, newly human, in total FML glory but after a freak out adapts. Great reverse to care for him, but also would love to see some stereotype-busting of how pop culture uses cancer as a cheap doom button, bam they’re dead/dying bedridden. More of the disabled experience of good days and bad days and fuck this shittery. Would be such a good contrast to the immortals who also live like they’re in various stages of dementia. Collin Robinson would have the time of his life. Guillermo does some treatment, recovers, explains it’s not a magic remission button, goes on to live and do. We saw some of this possible dynamic between Lazlo and Colin, this time with Guillermo aware and Lazlo not doing the experiments angle as in season 5.
This isn’t to cheapen the experiences of cancer survivors and their caregivers, more a reflection how terminal care and the queer community still holds so much joy when they intersect and it’s never represented on a sit com.

A repost from my fb page.
For a few years proceeding, and especially when the pandemic began, I've been on the fence of either resurrecting my old podcast, or becoming a YouTuber.
I didn't know which one I wanted to do, or to do both, or what kind of equipment I would need. Or what kind of content I would make.
I already have a channel and right now it's just my cringey Effie videos from 2017 and one of me dancing drunk with a box on my head. (I was Silvia Plath for Halloween that year, 2008 I think, and the box was supposed to be an oven, lol. My youngest sister took the video with her phone).
In December of 2021 I pulled all of my old Nutmeg's Mix episodes from BlogTalkRadio and TalkShoe and had my BlogTalkRadio account deleted. I still have TalkShoe but there's nothing posted to my account. I may edit and repost some of the really good episodes I did, like the Sailor Moon one, the mental health one, the writing one, etc. There truthfully was only a very few that were worthwhile, content-wise.
For 2023 I think I'm going to give YouTube a try.
I'm going to wait until after the holidays, perhaps mid-January even, after all the "Philly Loves Bowie Week" events (because I think I want to attend some of those too).
While making money from a hobby would be nice, I'm not going to worry about getting monetized or fancy equipment. I'm going to work with what I already have. If it is something I find myself enjoying, perhaps I'll upgrade mics and cameras and whatever.
As far as content goes, it's going to be a mixed bag, similar to what the "Nutmeg's Mix" internet radio show was, only it'll be in video format, no copyrighted music, and I'm going to start out with short videos, and not just me rambling for 2 hours. It'll be more of a vlog format, with lighthearted things like, here's me at a thrift store, here's me at the park, here's me trying on clothes from my closet I haven't worn in a while, here's me making a painting or a jacket, or a cosplay, here's me with my kewpies, here's me at the gym, whatever. Maybe I'll vlog from events and the beach or something once I get comfortable, if I decide to even continue with it. I may love doing it or hate it, we'll see.
I plan on staying away from reaction videos and talking about politics or religion. These things are already overdone as it is and I don't want that "us vs them" mentality. Most aspects of life are nuanced and not all black and white and simple. Humans are complicated creatures. I just want this to be a little break from the complications of life. Not toxic positivity, but not focusing on the negative either.
I may talk about things like mental health and physical health down the line, maybe have guests for those things, as well as for the silly stuff too, it all depends on how far I want to go or if I even wind up liking this.
But to start out I'm going to keep things lighthearted. I want to have a comfort channel I guess. Drama-free, enjoying the things in life that I love and just sharing that with others.
Let me know your thoughts in the comment section.

I was watching that DTS bit when Silvia says Seb and Charles can kiss and... Did you notice how Seb arches his eyebrows and looks at Charles with mild annoyance and then Charles inhales and exhales and widen his eyes and smiles and leans on his chair and LOOKS SO SELF CONSCIOUS and then Seb just curl the corner of his lips in a small smile? That scene speaks so much, their reactions are so raw, they were caught completely off guard (mostly Charles). That's poetic cinema.
You just made me re-watch that scene now, thank you anon, more brain rot for me ✌🏻 They both look annoyed at first tbh when Silvia opens with the “oh they’ve been writing shit about you in the press...again” thing. They both tense up. Charles is staring intensely at Seb; Seb’s pointedly looking down. And then - kudos to this woman, seriously - Silvia breaks the tension by suggesting they kiss. And they lighten up. People around them laugh at the suggestion. They themselves laugh. Charles is suspiciously quick to say he “won’t go that far” - glancing up at Seb for a moment, possibly to gauge his reaction - but his gaze says otherwise. Then he looks at Seb again when Seb says “we’ll start by holding hands.” And he looks so shy or I guess flustered? And then it cuts to Seb who seems to hold his gaze for a while before glancing back down again. But he’s smiling, and he keeps smiling until it cuts to the next scene, like the tension has dissipated - or, at least, the negative kind of tension has dissipated. 👀
Again, I think a lot depends on how they put this scene together. Like if this is in chronological order and it played out exactly the way it was shot, or if they chopped and changed things and edited it this way for extra spice and drama. Which is admittedly plausible (I think Max said they took different shots of him and spliced them together to create a certain narrative and that in reality things actually played out a bit differently. Don’t quote me on that, but I feel like some drivers have expressed the view that some things are hyped up for drama.) The thing is Sebchal is so incomprehensible that it could feasibly be either. Like that could’ve just happened like that and I wouldn’t at all be surprised. Becuase unhinged.
Regardless. Cheeky Emmy nom for Drive to Survive when? 👉🏻👈🏻 My favourite psychosexual melodrama <3 asdjfg
#replies#anonymous#sebchal anon#sebchal asks#drive to survive#seb's ring in plain sight. his annoyed eyebrow raise. charles's intense fucking stare. and then the way that melts into flustered amusement#i...........how is any of that real#feels like a fever dream

Okay so I’ve only watched the season once through and I’m sure I missed some stuff, but here’s my reaction for anyone who cares haha.
I’m going to start with Sana, obviously. Brilliant. Show stopping. Memorable. I never felt like the season was about anyone else, even with the side plots. I think this has a lot to do with the friendships, which skamit does really well. But this season was truly about her. And Bea did fantastic.
I think the switch to make the Malik drama about Eva worked much better, as Eva is someone who’s kind of... swung from one guy to another and back. It just makes sense. I also loved how they toned down the drama and got rid of the cyber bullying all together.
Sana’s voicemail on the roof explained it all... and it was so heartbreaking. Honestly, I could relate. I think that’s another big testament to the season — she’s relatable because she’s, you know, a person with feelings and expectations who doesn’t always make the right choices. I never felt like I wasn’t allowed to relate to her just because we come from different backgrounds. And isn’t that the point? Isn’t that the point of it all — to humanize her and not put her on a pedestal or be afraid of her? She hurt her friends who hurt her, and she let it all out. Sometimes we need that honesty to become closer to one another, and, in turn, understand each other better.
My favorite clip was the one of her and Malik talking about religion. The music? Her metaphor to the moon? God, she shone in this clip. I’m not a religious person, but I could feel the passion in her. I think it’s healthy to be challenged sometimes, too. I don’t think Malik saying that you can be a good person without religion is something I will forget.
Overall, her story was so good that I don’t really mind the other parts I was disappointed in. It was a fantastic final season. The music and editing and quality was incredible. She was the true star.
Okay, Marti and Nico. Because you know I love them a lot. And I’m sorry if I have more to say about them than Sana. I know it’s her season. But obviously Marti and Nico are my favorite and ALSO there’s just..... a lot to process regarding what we did get from them. I’m not the kind of person who can look at canon and be like, “I don’t like that so I’m going to forget it!” — no. I see it happen and my brain goes “make it make sense.” Which is what I’ve been trying to do because I really don’t want these two ruined for me. So:
First of all, I’m so, so thrilled that Nico’s “half a thing” long ago with Luai was the real deal. It had nothing to do with his mental illness and added depth to his back story that comes from a place of love and understanding. I cannot even imagine the guilt he must have felt at Virgilio after watching Luai get sent away. It must have been difficult to talk about, so keeping it from Marti (for so long!) is something I can kind of understand.
Which brings me to Marti’s reaction. I have mixed feelings. I definitely do understand Marti, in a way. When you piece together what he knew from Maddalena, that look between them he witnessed, Nico’s obvious lies... yeah. Maybe I’d go a bit out of my mind, too. Essentially, I can see this starting in ep 2 and building to ep7. That’s FIVE WEEKS of hardship on their relationship. FIVE WEEKS of Nico hiding the truth and Marti going insane pestering him. FIVE WEEKS of patience before Marti finally snapped. My big thing is I think Marti has gobs and gobs of patience. Without that real time format, it looks like he has none. But really? It was almost two whole months of... guessing and asking and getting nothing. Of course he was paranoid! Of course he was jealous! His patience, which I believe he had, wore thin. While I think some of what Marti did was out of character, some of it I can see. He gets angry, we’ve seen that. He withdraws, we’ve seen that too. Not saying this is the healthiest thing ever, but if you REALLY loved someone... you probably would be at least a little jealous. We villainize the feeling of jealousy so much — and it’s true that it’s not healthy in this amount — but it happens. And it happened to Marti. My big hangup is that I don’t really think that’s very in character for him, but in a way... I can see it. I think we can argue that what he did to Gio and Eva in season 1 was the result of some jealousy. Love makes you do all kinds of crazy things and feel all kinds of crazy ways. I half think that Marti “left” as a sort of final straw/ultimatum. Like, ‘ah, if I leave him maybe then he will tell me, since there is nothing left to lose.’ But then Nico didn’t, so he was left with that choice. I don’t think he really meant it, at least not for the long haul. If Nico were to text him the next day and say ‘yeah, you’re right, this is for the best’ Marti would be a giant mess. I can clearly see this was a situation of “well, I think he’s going to leave me for Luai, so maybe if I leave him first I can control the pain.” We literally see him reverting back to his old self in eps 7 and 8. He closes off. He doesn’t want to listen to his friends. At Silvia’s birthday, he was honestly being so loud and jokey and obnoxious. I truly think that was a mask. His “I have nothing to say to him” (referring to Nico) REALLY really got to me. That was not in character. But in hindsight, as I try to make sense of it, I think he said it because he wanted his friends to disagree with him. It’s more of a “I have nothing more to add” because, well, he tried. He tried for five weeks to get Nico to tell him the truth. He was left with his embarrassing mistake of leaving Nico, which he knew was wrong, and is embarrassed even more because everyone else knows it was wrong too. Somehow he has to crawl out of the hole that is his own stubbornness and pride. And in this super public space, he wanted everyone to think he was fine. But we know he’s not. We know he had a cliche low point eating ice cream on the floor. We know he’s hurting. In his mind, Nico possibly cheated and lied and might leave him and that hurts him. Because he loves him.
Which brings me to my next point. Marti you dumbass if you opened your eyes you could SEE how much Nico loves you. Everything from wanting to get coffee in the morning with him, wanting to pick him up from school, wanting to dance with him, wanting to help throw him a nice birthday, just the way Nico LOOKS at him... boy he LOVES you. And I bet that hurt Nico a lot to think Marti didn’t feel any of that. Nico shows his love, it pours out of him.
But also: Nico, my boy, why take so long to tell Marti the truth. If there’s nothing to hide, why does it matter that you had half a thing with some guy two years ago? I think what happened was that they didn’t have proper closure. Luai was essentially ripped away from Nico, horribly, in the middle of their half a thing. Did Nico even know that he was okay? And... the guilt? Oh my. I can only imagine Nico wanted to reconnect with him just to get that closure, and, in the process, because he never told Marti, it looked a lot like maybe something else was going on. Not only the night of the fight, but maybe after that there were some texts or phone calls, too. And then how do you tell your boyfriend that you want closure with your ex? How do you explain what you had, which never had a proper ending and, who knows, maybe would have grown or still have been going on if things were better and Luai never left? I think Marti could piece that together, too. He knows Nico learned the Koran for Luai. He remembers the talk in Nel Mio Letto. He knows how deeply Nico can feel. And, he knows that Nico’s feelings are real. Or, were real. And maybe had the possibility of becoming real again now that Luai was around again.
The excuse that Nico didn’t tell Marti because Luai was engaged and wanted to keep it on the down-low doesn’t fly with me. Maybe it’s partly true, but I also think what I stated above was more of the cause. Nico didn’t know how to explain to Marti without sounding suspicious but needed closure. He tried to do both at the same time and failed. Because, duh. You have to be honest and hiding isn’t right and doesn’t work. I think it would hurt Marti to know Nico doesn’t trust him enough with that secret. So, in sum, they both need to trust each other more.
I was really excited for Nico’s clip and was left feeling kind of empty afterwards. I don’t like how Marti basically interrogated him. I think that if Marti wants that level of honesty with Nico, that’s valid. But there’s a fine line between that and pestering someone about phone calls. Which is what makes me think the thing with Luai was more than just the night of the fight. I think Nico was hiding a little more than a past. He was hiding his reconnecting to get closure. I mean, in the end, it’s a nice clip. The beach is beautiful and their kiss was cute and smiley. And that hug is god tier. I liked how we saw Nico’s meds in a short and respectful way even if just to give the audience some peace of mind. Maybe Marti only used his birthday as an excuse to be so nosy. I do think he was hurt by the lies — and Marti knows that lies can ruin things, he’s seen it happen — so he’s just on guard. I mean, I don’t think Nico’s lie was HUGE... it’s just the fact that it went on for so long even after Marti tried to tell Nico he wanted the full truth. So, even if I didn’t love the clip and am disappointed a bit in it, in the end it really just shows that they can and will work through everything.
So, like, did I want all of that drama? No. Is it realistic? I think so. I romanticize these two so much so it brought me down to earth a bit. Did I already KNOW they would be able to work through hard times? Well, yeah. I didn’t need to see it but in the end I’m glad I did. I truly believe they will face future hard times with the knowledge, now, that they need to do better. And honestly? I think Marti is 18 now and Nico is like 20? 21? And to be tested with something like this and work through it the way they did so young is a lot. Also, they’ve been together for over a year now. It takes about a year for that honeymoon phase to wear off. So in reality they are working through that right now too. Love is something they have to dedicate more time and effort to, and they did! They did do that and it’s nice to see that they’re willing to nurture this very very special thing they have instead of letting it fall away. And they made it out on the other side with, I think, more love and understanding for each other. I certainly love and understand them better now, too.
I might add on with more thoughts later, but this is what I have for now. Most of it is about Marti and Nico but, ya know. I love them dearly. Also, Sana’s stuff was just so good there’s really not much for me to work through with it. If you read this all, you’re a trooper lol

SKAM ITALIA S4 EP10
I’m not ready for this, we need a season 5!
Why do I think this scene is so intimate and comfortable and perfect? Why do I need to live this scene as well? Lying in my bed, my lover drawing me, being so soft and sleepy and in love. Sign me up
Once I got over how intimate and perfect this scene was, I realize: Silvia’s room is so pink...annoyingly pink
The way they tease each other saying “baby”
I don’t really like her, but Silvia looks so pretty and happy and at ease.
Luchino’s face when he read Sana’s text <33
Skam and the dads, man...
GIOOOO! I knew his clip was coming, but I’m so curious to see his POV, the colors, the mood...
Elia’s face when Marti held him. So cute!!!!
“We broke Luchino!” Marti’s voice during this, oh my god!!
“Is that in the end she gets to decide everything!” - and that’s how things should be, my friend.
I mean, I would shut my mouth too after hearing Gio Garau, my ex-girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend ask me to get in line.
The way I love this Dr. Spera! I feel like he’s one of the best adults in the whole skam universe
He and Fede are friends now, awww <3
Filo lying on the floor is very me
I feel like Filo is the perfect character to show us how “young” the rest of the group is. They’re all teenagers, meeting their first loves, dealing with school drama, real life problems that mostly happen when you’re in your teenage years, but Filo is not exactly an adult either! Life is not like: you’re a teenager -> now you’re an adult! no more fuck ups, every decision is a life changing one! no mistakes!!!!!! Those years, the early twenties, I guess, you’re still very much very lost, not exactly knowing what to do and maybe you learn that this is life, you get smarter, but doesn’t mean you can’t make mistakes. And now Filo is facing consequences to dumb decisions. And yet he tries to calm Ele, always worrying about others, about them being ok before he is.
“I’ve definitely dethroned you by now.” Stooop being this cute!! I need more Marti and Filo in my life.
Almost cried when he cried, fucking hell.
Oh god...it’s Nico now...I’m not ready!!!
I have to agree with everyone...why would Niccolò, the guy that clearly knows how to make “big gestures”, give Martino a sweater for his birthday
Again, I love how Nico says “tutto”, it’s just so cute.
Ugggh, I have to explain again that I’m not the most “woke” person ever, so I might be completely wrong here, but...my god, how I hate that Nico says “yes” and gives that weird smiles that’s sort of “yes...obviously”.
I kept looking at Marti to see his reaction and I feel like he had a quick, but sad smile for a second. uuugh!!!!!!!
The silence sort of lingers and I feel like it’s an “I’m sorry for wanting to have sex with him” and “I’m sorry for even asking” silence. And then they change the subject.
“our place”, huh? So Marti is not just visiting and staying for long periods of time, huh.
The way I internally screamed when I saw Elia and Filo...
“Well, after a while”. Yeees, Elia, you get it ;) During Christmas you can even hide inside Filo’s bedroom...
I love how Gio yet again notices that Marti is not happy and he offers to go with him to talk with the boys.
It feels so odd though...suddenly going to Luai, out of nowhere and introducing himself...
Oh my! Sana looks so beautiful!!! This shade of blue really fits her so well <3
Elia looking around and eating in the back hahahaa
Poor Elia, just watching from afar. I would give all my money for him to be a main after this season
Emma is really everywhere, seeing everything, huh
The way he says the other two before himself. Interesting...
Gio is always so happy if Marti is happy
I mean...it’s nothing new. Gio and Eva were always very...explicitly shown. So I don’t get the shock, it was always like this...just not in public, I guess.
Eva’s speech is so, so good and perfect for them, but this way of thinking always feels bitter to me

Day 2 Drabbles: Verde, Bianco e Rosso
Three drabbles from three different POVs.
Green - Eleonora White - Silvia Red - Niccolò For @doblondoro, who wrote one of the most amazing fics in the fandom (Questa notte è ancora nostra, on AO3)
Verde (Green)
“Nori, come on, be reasonable… You didn’t spend years studying… You didn’t work so hard to end up like for this.”
Like what, exactly, mom? It used to hurt, that you couldn’t see me from what I am. Now, I really don’t care if you label me Edo’s trophy wife. If my flower shop, my seminars on how transform one’s balcony into a small Eden and the side projects I’ve got going on with Niccolò. I am quite proud of our unique fragrances and infusions.
What do you want me to do? Leave my little green corner to sit behind a desk, stuck with a job that I hate only to be able to say that I make a bazillion euros a year? No, thanks.
“I am reasonable. And I don’t remember asking for your opinion on the matter. Now… Would you like some herbal tea? Me and Nico recently came up with some very interesting combinations…”
Bianco (White)
Is it so wrong, to dream of walking to the altar in a white dress?
To look so beautiful that people are going to start crying? So utterly divine that even those five idiots – loveable ones, mind you, especially Luchì – would be left speechless?
She is perfectly aware that they don’t it on purpose… but sometimes the other girls make her feel like, yeah, it is a crime against all women in the world to have such a romantic notion of marriage.
Smash the patriarchy, Silvia! Be your own prince charming!
“I think white tulips or orchids would look lovely at my wedding, don’t you think?” She muses aloud, making most of her friends groan.
“Nah, that’s a bit too much white. You should consider peach flowers, they’d look lovely with your complexion.” All eyes are on Nico, now. They would have expected that type of comment from Filippo, but from him? Is it the effect of being in love with a guy? As your gayness level raises, so does your stylishness?
Martino don’t seem to confirm her theory, but maybe he’s the exception?
Or, perhaps, it has something to do with the fact that Niccolò is attending the Fine Arts Academy and – therefore – has got an eye for aesthetically pleasing color palettes? Maybe.
“Awww, thank you. Are you picturing blue hyacinths for yours? And red roses, too?” She’d really like to become a wedding planner and get to set up the most important day of this lovely man.
“Totally.”
Rosso (Red)
Niccolò has never been a big fan of red. It used to make him uneasy, and then he would get frustrated with himself because nobody else seemed to have such a visceral reaction to something they disliked.
What kind of drama queen would cry about his mom giving him a red sweater as a present?
The one and only Niccolò Fares, ladies and gentleman.
“I told her I hate red! Why doesn’t anybody ever listens to me!” He stormed out of the room, leaving all the guests at his birthday party confused and rather uncomfortable. And it took a lot of gentle coaxing from Luai, who made him feel like he wasn’t overreacting for once, to persuade him to go back and send everybody’s home. He had managed to ruin his own birthday party, back then. That’s quite the achievement, isn’t it?
Recently, though, he might have changed his mind on the matter. Red isn’t anger, violence and blood anymore. It’s warmth. It’s softness. It’s Martino.

I love all of sana's season. And in my opinion, skam italia season 4 is one of the best. I love how they change the drama between incantava and malik to fedeva. Also the kissing scene between eva and malik seems to make a sense better than the og. Malik think sana flirt with elia, and it's clearly that eva didn't have a clue that sana like malik back then.
And even though i read there's so many people who dislike the drama between nicotino, but i kinda like it. We can clearly see that martino is insecure, and it's a prove that communication is really important in relationship. But i agree that marti's reaction about luai's story is kind of disrespect. I also love how they change the even-mikael storyline to niccolo-luai, and that story about luai is so heartbreaking. And i also really love luca-silvia storyline. And i love how elia is so brave to confess his feeling to sana. I can't believe they finally give us one moment of elippo, even though it's most likely elia will ended up with emma, but i already statisfied with the elippo's scene.
The dynamic between le matte and contrabbandieri especially sana and martino is soooo amazing. I really love that conversation between sana and marti, i love their friendship so much. And malik is the prove that once again all of yousefs is really sweet and one of the best character in skamverse. I also love all version of sana's parents in every skam, they trully the best. And honestly all of elias including rami is really sweet to their sister.
Also don't remind me about sana's speech. It's make me sad and teared up so much. And eva's letter to gio, gosh i love them so much. I also love that fede apologize and confess to sana that she's the one who started make fun of her. Yes, she's wrong but it's a good learn to see that if you make mistakes, you should apologize and accept all of the consequences.
And i know some of you had a problem with sana take her hijab around boys. And yes, as a muslim, i also agree that scene when sana open her hijab in front of marti and filo is wrong. But please blame it to the screenwriter. It's not beatrice's fault. Stop blaming the actress.
And gosh it's so hard to say goodbye to skam italia. All of the cast is so amazing, i love them so much. Thank you so much for giving us this experience to see through eva's, marti's, ele's and sana's life. Thank you so much for everything skam italia ♡
#skam italia#skamit s4#sana allagui#beatrice bruschi#i love this season. and that's the talk#i'm sorry for the long post#i just love them so much:')

I’m certain that I’m yours
Monday 17:56 – April 13, 2020 – You’re like the shoulder to turn to
Edoardo’s looked up in his room and he hasn’t moved the whole day. After his conversation with Eleonora, days passed by through him. Federico didn’t tell anything to his friends but Edoardo’s sure they figured it out. He spent Thursday and most of Friday with the Canegallo’s, Federico refused to leave him alone. By Friday’s night he picked up his grandmother at the airport and spent the next couple of days with her. He didn’t even attempt the dinner his friends had at the Sava’s apartment; Eleonora texted him the morning after but he ignored it. Edoardo knows they’re going to be friends again; he knows everything will be back to normal soon, but he can’t stand being with her right now. Luckily for him, at the dinner, they made another raffle, and he got in charge of his own car, and this time Eleonora wasn’t one of the passengers. He still saw her, of course; but he did it from the safety of his vehicle, for afar.
His grandmother noticed his mood and, being loyal to her character, she tried to pull the information out of her grandson with all the existences tricks but Edoardo didn’t let out a word about the topic. She already suffered enough when he broke up with Laura, without any authentic reason to her knowledge, and he didn’t want to ruin her weekend with his insignificant heart problems.
They arrived home by Sunday’s night, and Edoardo hasn’t left his room in almost twenty-four hours. Federico invited him to get breakfast out, he offered to drive him to school. His best friend even called at lunch time, to convince him to join him, but Edoardo refused every offer. He just needed a day off, away from classes and from people. Tomorrow he will be better. However, his loneliness was interrupted by Eva when the girl texted him for a jacket she forgot. Edoardo was close to ignoring her but he’s a damn good friend and couldn’t do that to Eva, it wasn’t her fault her best friend didn’t want him. Still, Edoardo is praying for Federico to arrive before Eva comes to pick her jacket back, that way he wouldn’t be obligated to give up his hibernation.
To Edoardo’s luck, at the exact moment he’s thinking that, his phone vibrates on the pillow next to his head with a call from Eva. Edoardo sighs but answers, covering his face with the hand that isn’t holding the phone to his ear. “Yeah?”
“I’m outside.” Eva replies.
“Give me a second.” Edoardo speaks getting up from his bed, heading to the entrance of his house in silence, hearing Eva’s breathes in the other side. “It’s open, you can come up.” He informs her emotionless.
“See you in a minute.” She says and hangs up. Edoardo isn’t sure if she knows what happened between him and Eleonora, but if the girl told her best friend about the fight, they had a week ago, it’s very possible she also told her about him confessing her his feelings. He feels exposed. He wishes he could go back in time.
Eva knocking on his door brings him back to the present. When he opens the door, the redhead girl is smiling, she hugs him with one arm, which would make Edoardo laugh in any other situation, due to how small she is compared to him but right now, he appreciates the affection. “I brought coffee, and cookies.” Eva speaks holding up a paper bag.
“How nice of you!” Edoardo smiles. He’s sure she knows about his conversation with Eleonora and it’s there to cherry him up.
“Some may even say I’m an angel.” The small girl flips her long red hair with a cocky smile and walks to the center of the living room, to get comfortable in the couch.
“Here.” Edoardo hands her the jacket. “before I forget.” He adds. He may be feeling like shit but he doesn’t have the heart to kick a friend out.
“Thanks! You’ve literally saved my life. There’s no way I can pass without this jacket.” Eva says while Edoardo sits in front of her, opening the bag.
“I think you’re exaggerating.” He chuckles. “If you pass, it’s because you’re smart, not because of a piece of cloth.”
“No, it’s the jacket.” She nods eagerly, taking the coffee Edoardo’s offering her. “I wore it on my first test and from that moment it became my lucky charm. Gio and the boys didn’t believe me, so I didn’t wear it on an exam and guess what happened? I failed! Big-fat failure.”
“Don’t you think it could have been a coincidence?” The tall boy asks relaxing on his own couch for the first time in days.
“That’s exactly what Gio said!” She waves her hands, narrowing her eyes. “But it isn’t a coincidence! It’s proof that this thing is my lucky charm, and I won’t graduate without it.” She holds the jacket close to her chest with one hand, coffee cup in the other one.
“All right.” Edoardo nods with a grin. He likes Eva. They hadn’t share that much of one-on-one moments over the past year but he had had enough interactions with Giovanni and Eleonora to know she’s one of a kind. Besides, he has been on her presence for the last thirty minutes and already feels better… warm.
“You sound just like Gio.” She rolls her eyes from above her cup. “Like if you’re agreeing with me because you think my story is funny but you don’t really believe me. But it’s true. If you want, I won’t wear it tomorrow and then we’ll see.” She offers shrugging.
“Please, don’t.” Edo extends his arm, gesturing his intention to stop her. “I don’t want you to fail.”
“Then you believe me!” She smiles with pride and crosses her legs.
“I’m open to the possibilities.” Edoardo jokes.
“Tell your friend that next time he makes fun of me, please.”
“I will.” He promises, and they both settle into a comfortable silence.
“How did you two get back together? I never asked.” Edoardo speaks calmly. He has heard some stories of the time they were broken up and some after they got back together but he never heard the whole story, and right now he’s willingly accepting anything that fills his mind.
Eva smile fades partly, as if she was captured by a bad memory and Edoardo hesitates. Maybe he shouldn’t have asked, maybe he overstepped. The boy is ready to apologize when the knowing spark on her eyes shines again.
“We started dating when we were around 16.” She rests her cup on the table and intertwines her fingers. “We were kids and our relationship… it didn’t start in the right way, I guess.” Her eyes are on Edoardo, but she isn’t looking at him, too lost on her mind. “It definitely didn’t start in the right way, and I guess I was… paranoid. I was waiting, all the time, for him to fuck it up. I was waiting for him to blow it up. Around that time, I met the girls.” She smiles, fondly. “Silvia had this major crush on an older guy and his best friend happened to know who I was. We use my connection with him to go to their parties, so Silvia could hook up with this guy. Gio and I started having fights over my paranoia and some lies he was telling me, and, at one party, I was drunk, I believed some stupid lie about Giovanni and, well, cheated on him.” Her forehead is furrowed and she looks smaller, Edoardo notices. He’s sure she hasn’t fully forgiven herself for those events. He understands her.
“Gio found out, not for me, and we kind of broke up, some weeks after that, we officially broke up with the promise to be friends but it was hard. Some months later I started regularly seeing the guy I cheated on Gio’s with.” Edoardo opens his eyes wide and Eva chuckles, as if she was expecting his reaction. “I know, but I was only 16 and wasn’t really sure of who I was.” It’s hard for Edoardo to imagine an Eva that isn’t the confident, outgoing girl he knows. But he also notices how much it affected her the reason why her relationship started with the wrong foot.
“After a while I stopped seeing that guy and we became friendly again; then he dated this foreign girl and I became a mess.”
“The Argentinian?” Edoardo can’t shut his mouth. Eva sits straight and looks at him with a brow lifted.
“Sorry.” Edoardo says low, busying himself with his coffee. He remembers when that girl came to school, all his friends were after her. He wasn’t, he was with Laura. He can’t believe how the list of moments that connected his past self to his friends keep growing.
“Yes, Sofia.” Eva confirms with a blank expression. “We started going backwards there. I was jealous and hooked up with Polidoro again.”
“Polidoro? But that was Covitti’s best friend. Did Silvia have a crush on Covitti?” Edoardo half screams, disbelieving. “He was the biggest douche in school!” He adds after Eva nods.
“I know that. Everyone knew that, besides Silvia, of course.” She makes a face, a mix of repulsion and laughter.
“Did you know Fede dated his sister?” Edoardo asks, smiling.
“So did Marti!” Eva slaps her own leg with her hand and both friends laugh. It’s unbelievable how close they were in high school and, still, never met.
“What happened after he started dating the Argentinian?” Edoardo asks after calming down his laughter.
“I got jealous, and I started seeing Polidoro again. By that time, we were friends, but I felt very uncomfortable when he was around. I still loved him but he had moved on.” She shrugs with a sad smile. “When I had already given up, she went back to her country and I thought that it was my chance to get him back, but he had some drama going on with his family. So, I waited.”
“Why?” Edoardo asks, inversed into the story.
“I wanted to. I surely wanted to tell him how I felt and what I wanted but… it wasn’t the right time, you know? He didn’t need a girlfriend at that time; he needed a friend, and I tried my best to be that for him.” She looks into Edoardo’s eyes with intention, making sure her words seal into his mind. “I know it would’ve been easier for me to be like ‘hey, I want us to go back together’. But it also would’ve been selfish, it wasn’t what he needed and I loved him, I always loved him and I figured that if I wanted to be with him, I needed to wait for him to be ready. And I did. I waited and when we both were ready… it happened, effortlessly… and here we are.” She smiles and her cheeks turns a little bit pink. “If you love someone, you’ll wait for the right time to come.”
Edoardo understands her words. Maybe he acted wrong with Eleonora. Maybe he should’ve contemplated her feelings before speaking up. He should’ve waited for the right moment and doesn’t act out of impulsive. Edoardo knows he can’t go back in time, but he can definitely wait. He’s a patient guy. He can live his life and be around, waiting for Eleonora to be ready to, maybe, want him back.
Friday 19:32 – April 17, 2020 – hit me with your best shot, honey
Edoardo’s laying on his bed, wearing nothing but an old pair of sweatpants. He attended some classes on Tuesday and Wednesday and had a full day of classes on Thursday, followed by an afternoon with his villa boys -if they knew something, they hide it pretty well- but he felt too tired to leave his room today, and, luckily, Federico didn’t question him.
After Federico left to school Edoardo took a shower and tried to eat something but his stomach refused anything his eyes found; eventually, he gave up and went back to locking himself in his bedroom. He doesn’t even know what time it is. His phone died a few hours after he had woken up and he didn’t care enough to charge it again.
Federico knocks on his door and Edoardo sighs. He knows that if his friend didn’t question him in the morning, he’s definitely going to do it now. He isn’t ready for that. Federico knocks again.
“Yeah?” Edoardo practically groans, not wanting to get up.
“Edo.” Federico opens his door a few inches, just enough space to get his head into the room. “Buddy I think you should put some clothes on.” He says looking at Edoardo from head to toes.
“Why?” the tall boy turns his head to stare at his friend.
“You have a visitor.” He says, looking intensely to Edoardo, as if he would be trying to say something without words.
“What do you want, man?” Edoardo finally sits on his bed.
“Eleonora is here.” His best friend speaks between his teeth. “She wants to see you.”
“What?” Edoardo freezes.
“Federico!” Edoardo hears her calling his friend from not so far away his room.
“Yeah, sorry. I… I gotta go… t-to… the boys. Bye.” Fede awkwardly looks down opening the door completely for Eleonora. Meanwhile, Edo is still sat half-naked on his bed.
“I’ve been calling you.” Eleonora speaks first, standing in the entrance of Edoardo’s room.
“Phone’s off.” The boy replies staring at her boots.
“Edo.” There’s something on her voice that forces Edoardo to look up. When their eyes meet, the girl walks to him and sits by his side. “Edo, you’ve been ignoring me for a week.” She sounds sad, and Edoardo wants to punch himself. “And don’t try to tell me you haven’t because we both know you have. Before Easter’s break I’d run into you, at least, once a day, and now I haven’t seen you since Sunday.” She leans closer, searching for his eyes.
“Sorry.” He curly-haired boy apologies avoiding her stare.
“I’m sorry if what I told you hurt you in any way.” The girl places her hand on his knee, and Edoardo feels weak.
“No, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything; it was selfish to not considerate your feelings.”
“You don’t have to apologize, Edo.” Her smile feels so warm. “It’s not your fault my past gets into the way. I love spending time with you; you know? I feel like… like I am safe. Still I don’t want to commit to anyone but myself. And I understand if you can’t accept it, if you don’t want to see me but we need to talk, at least once.” Edoardo lays his hand on hers, scared that maybe she would cry and he sure can’t take it.
“I don’t want to stop being friends with you. I just needed a few days.” He assures her looking at her eyes. God, he missed those green eyes. “I want things to go back to normal between us, even if it’s hard. Cutting you out of my life was never an option; I swear.” The conversation he got with Eva left him thinking; if he really likes Eleonora, he has to be around and be her friend while she needs it.
“Thanks.” She smiles softly. “Honestly I don’t think I could survive without your tutoring.” The girl jokes, lighting up the mood. “Do you know tomorrow is my birthday?” she asks, uncertain.
“Of course.” Edoardo smirks, rolling his eyes.
“I’m having a few people over at my apartment. You think you could make it?” Eleonora has removed her hand from Edoardo’s knee and is now on her lap.
“I won’t miss it.” He promises, and the smile she gives him feels good. Edoardo isn’t tired anymore. He feels content.
Without thinking, the boy fixes her hair and left his hand resting there. Eleonora leans into the touch for a second but abruptly moves, throwing her body into Edoardo’s chest. The boy hurriedly holds her with both arms, tight.
“I missed you.” She whispers against his chest, as if she was confessing a confidential secret. With her hands on his body, Edoardo remembers he’s still half-naked but if it’s okay for her, it’s okay for him, he thinks. He just wants things to go back to normal between then. A week without her was painful enough and he’s willing to push his feelings aside to get her back into his life.
“I missed you, too, Ele.” He plants a kiss on the top of her head and feels her smile against his body.
Saturday 21:15 – April 18, 2020 – you’re my only virtue
Edoardo is side by side with his villa boys; they left their building together and headed to Eleonora’s home in just one car. The curly-haired boy tried to see her before the party but it was impossible. People had her running for a place to another the whole day, so she couldn’t make it.
His boys still don’t know about his feelings for Eleonora, or at least they’re not letting Edoardo know they know. Only Federico, who is nice enough to support Edoardo in whatever decision he takes.
Eleonora opens the door for them, on a casual, tiny black drees that makes Edoardo knees tremble. She smiles at the five of them and one by one the boys hug her. Chicco’s the first one to move: he embraces Eleonora’s head with both arms, kissing the top of it; Rocco holds her by the waist and lifts her up a few centimeters; Nathan, not being a very touchy person, just holds her briefly with one arm. Federico, he steps into the apartment with opens arms and Eleonora closes the distance, their high difference isn’t that big so she can easily hug him by the neck. When they break the hug, Federico pushes his friends into the party with the excuse to get some drinks, leaving Edoardo and Eleonora alone.
“Hi.” He murmurs.
“Hey.”
Edoardo walks two steps and places an arm on her shoulder, holding her again his chest, while Eleonora squeezes him from the waist. “Happy birthday, Ele.” He speaks against her ear.
“Thank you!” She’s smiling so big that her green eyes are practically closed. “I’m really happy you came.”
“I brought you a present.” Edoardo smirks, cocky.
“Really? You didn’t have to!” She brushes his hand, but Edoardo moves it away, looking for the present into his jacket. He’s really proud of his gift -and a bit ashamed-. It’s a cheesy present and maybe he thought about it too much but Federico assured him it was perfect, and he’s sticking to that thought.
“Ele!” Silvia’s hand grabbing Eleonora is the first thing Edoardo sees between the people. “Come on, we need to take a good photo before Eva and Fede get too drunk.”
“But-”
“Come on. It’s just a minute.” She spots Edoardo standing awkwardly with the front door still opened. “Edo, close the door, please. We don’t want the neighbors complaining about the music.” She kisses both of his cheeks and drags Eleonora away, not letting any of them reply.
-
Eleonora didn’t come back. After Silvia had dragged her to take photos, she was distracted by every person in the room, and after a few minutes Edoardo gave up. He will give her his present some other time. That’s what friends do, right?
Edoardo’s now in Eleonora’s small kitchen, alone. Chicco was with him some minutes ago but disappeared after one of Eleonora’s classmates. But it’s okay, he has been feeling better since yesterday and being alone isn’t hard anymore. He’s fine by himself. He has a cold beer in his hand and is sitting on the counter, watching the party happen from the distance. Edoardo can’t see everything from his position but still can steal some glances of Eleonora and his friends here and there. He spots Eva dancing with Giovanni; when she sees him, she moves in his way but stops midway. Edoardo turns his head to the side and notices Eleonora walking to him.
“Hey, you.” She smiles, settling in front of him with both arms behind her back.
“Happy birthday.” Edoardo leaves his beer next to his leg and rests his hands on his lap, close to her.
“Are you bored?” Eleonora asks, making a face.
“No! I was just taking a break. I promise.” He can’t stop the smile breaking through his face.
“I believe you.” Eleonora smiles looking at his eyes and Edoardo can’t wrap his head around the idea that more than a week ago they were in a similar situation, miles away and their expression were completely different.
“Can I give you my present now?” The tall boy whispers, looking down at her.
“Hurry up before Silvia notices I’m not in the bathroom.” She gives him an accomplice look and they both chuckles.
Edoardo’s hands feel sweaty suddenly, and he thinks that maybe he shouldn’t have asked Federico for a second opinion. Maybe he should’ve brought Eva with him, or Martino, or Elia; someone who could’ve actually confirms him his idea wasn’t shit.
“Happy birthday, Ele.” The boy says inhaling deeply, offering her a small green box he has carried on his pocket half of the night.
“Thanks.” Slowly, Eleonora takes the bun out and opens the box. Staring in silence at the item in it.
“If you don’t like it, I can change it.” Edoardo rapidly adds, nervous.
“I like it.” She looks at him. “I really like it. It’s beautiful.” Edoardo observes her take the necklace out of the box. It’s as delicate as her, and, at the end, has a tiny silver and green rose hanging. Edo watches her putting it on. It’s beautiful. She’s beautiful.
“How does it look?” Eleonora asks, and Edoardo wants to laugh at her ignorance. He wonders how someone can be so stunning and not know it.
“Beautiful.” He says automatically and notices Eleonora’s features softening. “Y-Your brother…” he feels nervous again, but he wants her to know his present has a meaning. “Your brother told me that you didn’t just like gardening.” Edoardo clears his throat. “He told me it was really important to you, like some kind of balance and, you know, I was hoping that, maybe, we could find that balance again… between us.” He doesn’t dare to look at her face, staring at his hands instead.
“Edo.” Edoardo looks up at the sound of his name on her mouth. “I love it.” He smiles, pleased with himself. And even when it must be uncomfortable, Eleonora holds him by his neck and presses her body to his. Edoardo hugs her back, inhaling her scent. Being friends, it’s difficult but it’s worthy.
The girl breaks the hug first but lets her hands resting on his shoulders. Edoardo looks down at her and notices her staring at his lips. He freezes. Eleonora finds his eyes again, and they just stand there, holding each other and staring in silence. Close, way too close for two friends. He’s trying very hard not to panic but he’s feeling her closer every second and his head is starting to feel dizzy.
“Ele, it’s time for the ca-” Elia shuts up midsentence when he enters the room. Eleonora quickly steps away from Edoardo, but it’s obvious Elia notices it. “Uh, sorry.” The boy can barely bite down his smirk. “Ele, it’s time for the cake.”
“Yes, of course!” Eleonora recovers faster than her friends. “Come, let’s go. I don’t want Silvia to kill me in my own birthday party.” She turns to smile at Edoardo, squeezing his knee, but just for a second before making her way out of the kitchen.
Elia waits for Edoardo, smirk turning into a full smile. “What?” Edoardo makes sure to avoid his face while he speaks.
“Nothing!” Elia says half laughing. “Let’s go.”
Sunday 11:45 – April 19, 2020 – there’s something about you…
Edoardo’s watching Eleonora play with a dog. After the moment they shared on her kitchen last night, there were some secretive smiles and hands brushing but nothing more, and they weren’t alone either. Once he made it to his house and described the situation to Federico, his best friend physically forced him to text Eleonora, to ask her out. If there was an opportunity, he needed to take it, immediately.
Around 10:00 am he picked her up and took her to a Caffè, it was very far away from their houses but Edoardo didn’t care, he knew Eleonora would like it. And she did. The tall boy smiled proudly when he heard the girl by his side gasping. The place was small, but it was completely filled with plants, from the roof to the floor, and the wood tables gave him the feeling to be in the woods instead of a coffee shop. Eleonora was really happy and they talked a lot. They talked about the things their friends did at the party and how Eleonora crashed douche-with-steroids ass at class but she never mentioned what happened at her kitchen, and Edoardo didn’t know if he could.
After a while Eleonora suggested to go for a walk and Edoardo thought she wanted some privacy to talk about them but as soon as they left the shop, she saw a small black dog with a lot a hair and she has been petting him for the last five minutes.
“Okay, I think we need to go now.” The dog’s owner speaks, watching her pet kissing Eleonora’s face. “I think he likes you more already.” The woman seems very nice, Edoardo thinks. She seems to be around 40 and very in love with her dog, Pietro, if Edoardo heard right.
“Bye, baby.” Eleonora’s using a tone Edoardo never heard on her. He wonders if maybe it is the tone she uses with babies and not just animals.
“Come on, Pietro. Say goodbye to Eleonora, we gotta go back home and she has someone to go back to, too.” The lady smiles at Edoardo, and he feels selfishly happy to be mistaken by Eleonora’s boyfriend.
Eleonora waves at the dog and comes back to him. “I’m glad you made a new friend.” Edoardo jokes, fixing her hair unconsciously, the dog’s loved had made a mess of it.
“Thanks.” She smiles big, mocking him.
“You wanna sit over there?” Edoardo turns his body to point at the start of the lake. Eleonora nods and starts walking in silence. The tall boy watches her and decides that if he wants to talk about them, he can’t wait for Eleonora to give him her approval, he has to ask.
Edoardo sits first, on the ground, with his feet close to the water and Eleonora does the same by his side. The boy inhales through his nose, repeating the words on his mind. “Were you drunk last night?” The question sounds harsher out loud.
“No. Why?” Eleonora looks at him hugging her legs close to her chest, confusion all over her face.
“I know I told you I wanted us to be friends. I didn’t lie.” Edoardo has his eyes fixed on the water. “But last night… when I gave you… I don’t know, maybe I misunderstood. I’m sorry.” He shakes his head, trying to push his insecurities aside, but they still take control.
“Edo, you didn’t misunderstand anything, and I’m sorry. I shouldn’t-” Edoardo lifts his head and their eyes meet. “You don’t have to apologize, you know? I just want to know where we are standing.” The boy forces a smile.
“I don’t know.” Eleonora looks away. Edoardo feels nervous, uncomfortable and worried. He understands she has her reasons to be the way she is, but he also has his to run away and he’s actively deciding to stay.
“Can I tell you a story?” If he wants her to trust him, he has to trust her first. “It isn’t a very nice one but it’s important.” He looks at her and she nods, giving him all her attention.
“Okay, so…” Edoardo exhales and fixes his eyes on the water again. “When I was around 15, I started seeing this girl, she was my father’s friend’s daughter and we practically grew up together. She lived here, in Milan, but we made it work for a while. I have a brother; you already knew that, right?” Eleonora barely moves her head but still Edoardo notices her nodding. “He is really bad news, and I always knew it but I was fifteen and he would take me, her and my friends to these seniors parties. So, I trust him. One time he found himself alone with her and started talking shit about me. He told her I was only using her for sex and that I was already seeing other girls, and… she slept with him. She was really mad at me, and he was there, I guess. It wasn’t her fault. It was his. He knew what he was doing. After that our bond broke forever. It had started breaking before my mother died, she was really weak and he wouldn’t help or try to make things easier for her. He would just put more shit on her shoulders and leave her alone when she needed him.” Edoardo clears his throat, making a pause. It doesn’t matter how long ago it was, talking about her is always hard.
“At first I thought it was his way of dealing with grief. But it wasn’t, he is a selfish sociopath.” Edoardo laughs bitterly. “After he had slept with my girlfriend, he moved away for college and my father was mostly traveling because of work and I was… alone.” He shrugs, feelings physically tired. “I told myself I was done with dating. I was done with people, honestly. But the boys… they kept showing up on my door, and they make sure I’d go back to normal.” He pauses to look at Eleonora. She’s still hugging her legs and has her head resting on her own knees, smiling shyly at him. “In my senior year I met this girl from our school, Laura, and she really got my attention. It took me a while, but we started dating. I did love her, and I like to believe she loved me, too. But it wasn’t that simple, we were hiding all the time and, one day, I left her alone at my house for a couple of minutes and when I came back… he was there. I panicked, I made clear to him she wasn’t my girlfriend -even when she was-, I acted like she was nothing, because I knew, I knew Andrea would ruin it for me.” He feels cold and wonders if maybe it wasn’t the right time to talk about it with Eleonora but he can’t stop himself now.
“I didn’t tell her the truth about him and we… moved on from that but a few weeks after, I got involved into a fight with some homophobic dudes that were after Nico and she got really mad at me.” He laughs now, looking back at that time… they were fighting over nothing when the real problems were chasing them. “We, of course, fought about it and kind of broke up. It was around the time of my admission exams, you know?” He waits for Eleonora to say something, to let him know she doesn’t loathe him. But she doesn’t open her mouth, she only gives him a sad absent smile, not getting her eyes off of him.
“I was here and she didn’t know. She went to my home to find me but instead-”
“She found Andrea.” Edoardo’s surprised by her interruption, as if she already knows what he’s going to say next.
“Yes, she found Andrea, and he was throwing a party. Andrea told her I was coming back home anytime soon, even when he knew I was here. He convinced her to stay, got her very drunk and next thing Laura remembers is waking up on my bed, completely naked, with him by her side.” Eleonora gasp and Edoardo stares at her, praying his eyes doesn’t show how hurt he still is.
“D-Did… Was she…” The girl is speechless, clearly afraid to ask.
“She didn’t tell me right away. Her friends took care of her. They took her to ER, and she wasn’t… he didn’t do it.” It’s getting hard to swallow for him. “There was a friend of my brother at the party, Marta. She spoke to Laura. It seems like she fainted and Andrea took her upstairs, he undressed her and took some of his own clothes too but collapsed by her side. Marta moved him away from her and covered her with the sheets. We both believe her but… it’s just Marta’s story. We will never get the full story.” Edoardo feels Eleonora moving closer and she places her hand on his.
“You know it wasn’t your fault, right? Or Laura’s?” She’s searching for his eyes. “You know that, right?”
“That’s what everyone says but if I would’ve told her about my brother, she wouldn’t have stayed or if I would’ve eaten up my pride and apologized to her sooner.” He shakes his head and Ele squeezes his hand. “I know it isn’t entirely my fault, but partly… no one has the guts to say it, but I know it is.” Edoardo shrugs, he has made peace with his guilt and tries to live everyday with it. “She went to the police, you know? And she even faced him, alone. But when he found out the police were involved; he took off, and I haven’t seen him since then. Last Christmas he called my dad but that’s the only thing I know.”
“And Laura?” Edoardo notices how calm Eleonora’s tone is, as she’s intentionally relaxing for him.
“At the end of the year, she moved away and started over. We’re still friendly, call each other for birthdays and stuffs, but ever since the day I found out, I can’t look at her. The guilt is enormous, and she’s too good to blame me.” Edoardo smiles sadly. They both tried after Andrea disappeared from the picture but it wasn’t the same between them. They would never be the same.
“Thank you for telling me.” Eleonora smiles softly and rest her head on his shoulder, still holding his hand.
“I want you to know you’re not the only one with bad memories. I’m pretty screwed, to be honest.” In an act of bravery Edoardo intertwine his fingers with Eleonora’s. “I want you to know I’m willing to try be less screwed up… for you, with you.”
“Edo…” the girl removes her head from his shoulder but doesn’t let go of his hand.
“It doesn’t have to be now. I’ll be around. Whenever you’re ready, I’ll be around.” He assures her, pressing two fingers lightly on her furrowed forehead.
“I’m not making you wait for me.”
“You’re not making me if it’s my decision.” The boy smirks and Eleonora try to fight the smile growing on her face.
“You’re too good for me.” She lets go of his hand, but Edoardo quickly takes it back, with both hands. “I am not.” He says. “I think we make a pretty nice duet.”
“Stop joking!” She pushes him gently, and Edoardo takes the opportunity to hold her hand. Now both of his hands are holding Eleonora’s; their bodies very close.
“I’m not going to push you, okay? I only want you to know I am here for you, in the way you want to take me, I am here and I will be here tomorrow, next week and next month, too.” Edoardo needs her to know where he stands even when it lets him in a vulnerable position, he trusts her.
“I like you.” Eleonora confesses looking at their hands.
“I figured it last night when you almost kissed me.” He jokes again and she rolls her eyes. But he can’t help it, Edoardo feels confident like he hasn’t felt in a while.
“Your gift’s really beautiful. I guess it… swept me off my feet.” She looks at his lips again, and Edoardo does the same this time.
“We’re even now.” He speaks slow, conscious of her stare.
Eleonora groans exaggeratedly, making Edoardo smile. She rests her head on his shoulder again and squeezes his hand. The boy squeezes back, in complete silence and watches her with his peripheral vision, she’s questioning something, he can tell.
The girl sits straight again, glancing at Edoardo’s eyes before leaning closer. He closes his eyes, expectant and feels her soft and warm lips on his cheek. Edoardo doesn’t open his eyes, scared of her kiss to be a goodbye. Her kiss to mean she doesn’t want to be around him. But all his worries disappear when he feels her breathe close to his mouth. Edoardo dares to crack his eyes open. She’s smiling at him, boldly, and he isn’t sure if she closes the distance, or maybe it is him -even when he promised himself, he wouldn’t do it- but he has his eyes closed again and is feeling Eleonora’s soft and warm lips against his.
Sunday 19:57 – April 19, 2020 – certain things I adore
Edoardo hits the ‘post’ button and smiles mischievously. He turns his head to look at Eleonora, waiting for her to see the notification. She’s laying on the couch with her legs over Edoardo’s lap and have been like that half of the day. After she kissed him -or he kissed her-, she made clear she wanted to go as slow as possible. She isn’t settling to all the pressure society puts on a couple and he has accepted. Honestly, he doesn’t care if Eleonora wants to only meet him two hours per week or doesn’t allow him to kiss her more than five times a day; he only wants to be with her and is accepting all of her boundaries willingly.
“What did you tag me on?” Eleonora narrows her eyes at him from above her phone, suspicious.
“Open it and you’ll find out.” He hasn’t stop smiling since this morning and isn’t sure if he would ever stop.
“Edo!” Eleonora yells and sits up, not removing his legs from his body.
“What? It’s just a birthday post. You got like ten of those yesterday.” Edoardo loves to play dumb with her. The expressions his… girlfriend? Makes every time he acts purposely stupid are his favorites.
“This photo isn’t just any photo!” She waves the phone in front of his face and Edoardo stops smiling for the first time in hours. Maybe he overstepped. She said they should go slow and first thing he does, he posts on Instagram a photo of the two of them hugging. He’s an asshole. “I haven’t even told Eva.” Eleonora covers her face with the phone, and Edoardo can picture her already breaking up with him.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I thought it was nice. Sorry, I’ll delete it.” He takes his phone but Eleonora stops him. “It’s okay.” She smiles. “You don’t have to delete it.”
“But you haven’t told Eva, or your brother. And I only told Fede over a text.” He wants to slap himself. He can be very impulsive sometimes, and he hates it.
“Well, we can’t hide from our friends forever, and there’s no right way to tell them. They’ll understand.” She assures him with a smile, and Edoardo feels at peace again. “But next time you want to post a photo of me: ask me first, all right? That’s part of going slow.” She’s teasing him, speaking as if he is a kid, Edoardo should feel offended but he only wants to kiss her, and he can. The boy leans in with his eyes closed, but instead of meeting the Eleonora’s lips he’s hit by a pillow.
When Edoardo opens his eyes, she’s laughing so loud, her cheeks are turning red. He adores her, but he won’t let his adoration win. Rapidly, using his longs arms, he tackles her and starts tickling her sides. Eleonora’s now laughing louder Edoardo has ever heard her, but taking advantage of the pause he takes to contemplate her, the girl turns them over on the couch and now Edoardo’s with his back pressed, being attacked by Eleonora’s hands.
“Hey.” The tall boy whispers when she takes a break to breathe.
“Hey.” Eleonora smiles and gently Edoardo takes her hair away from her face. He observes her smiling fondly, and he can’t believe that two days ago he was beating himself up for her and now it feels like a life ago.
“What?” Eleonora chuckles and a strand of hair falls again on her face. Edoardo place it behind her ear before opening his mouth. “You’re beautiful.”
“And you’re annoying.” She rolls her eyes, but her smile gives her away.
“I like you. A lot.”
“I figured after you promised me, you’ll wait for me… forever.” She’s still on top on him, using her arms for balance, not wanting to crush him.
“Excuse me?” Edoardo makes and offended face but doesn’t push her away. “Who kissed who, huh?”
“You, definitely!” She’s laughing, and the boy could lay there and watch her laugh for the rest of his days.
“You’re annoying.” He repeats her words.
“But you like me.” She makes a funny face, empathizing the word ‘like’ on a mocking tone.
“Obviously.” Edoardo is done teasing; they will have time for that later, he wants to kiss her now. He lifts his head to close the distance, and this time he isn’t attacked by a pillow, instead he meets Eleonora’s lips half way.
The curly-haired boy ruins it, smiling into the kiss too soon, but he can’t help it. Edoardo isn’t sure if he will ever get used to kissing Eleonora, and, honestly, he doesn’t know if he even wants to.

Ok I'm trying Legend of Fuyao again. This time perhaps I will triumph! I left off like 2 years ago on ep 26 or so.
Refreshing my memory by skating thru ep 16
oh look, it's sidekick bro I never cared about. Pretty sure his role in the narrative is to be a drag on FL. And fighter guy! He's much more useful.
This period is where I previously began losing my patience with the show. A lot of story time and 16 episodes had passed and I wanted to see FL taking center stage, being a powerful threat. I wanted her to be saving her love interest approx as much as he was saving her. The opening in ep 16 is right back to a situation where I want to see FL beating ass and not Wuji to show up to save the day. Scram, future boyfriend! Ladies are FIGHTING. 🙅
(past me may not have known exactly what I wanted but the answer was A Journey to Love)
It was the whiplash - Oh cool, she's fighting alongside him! ...and then he's knocking her out to be his pawn again :/
But rewatching now, I think I was in the wrong mood. I am older & wiser! I can be patient. I have been promised a battle couple and Fuyao being awesome. I can wait. 😇
Watching the prime minister character be manipulated is entertaining. Fuyao is handling situation pretty well, actually. "The Earth Abdorbing Bell is back to its rightful owner. I've also found Xiaoqi. Why do I need to stay here?" THANK YOU for asking this very pertinent question, protagonist! Her rationale to stay.... doesn't make much sense, unfortunately. Because the narrative (er, the servants) requires it!
"Rest assured? I have been in this office for thirty seven years and I've never had a restful day." idk Mr Prime Minister, maybe u need a new job.
Ok, sneak out and leaving a fake corpse. Not a terrible plan. I especially like the part where u set the mansion on fire.
Prime Minister's foster son is so good looking he's making everyone else in this drama look bad. I like his sullen murder son vibes. Very Hao Du of Long Ballad. MDL says he's basically done nothing since. He was the ML in a 2020 drama that never aired. 💀
I really don't get Wuji. Why is he even involving Fuyao in things. I don't believe he has any romantic feelings at this point. If u can control this nation but can't control her, then... why? I suppose we have to go with ✨fate✨.
Dragon scale armor! Makes me think of the dark tale behind such garb in c-novel Heart Protection.
Why was the doctor randomly lurking around the PM mansion in this dark with a face mask? eh, a man's gotta have hobbies.
Ep 17
So Doctor had a secret mission, ran into Fuyao burning shit down out of happenstance. and now he's dragging her along. I vaguely recall this.
So. Many. Robes. Curtains. Twirling. the twirling I caaaaaaaan't AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hope I wasn't expected to find any of that sexy. It was extra and hilarious as hell, though. I 100% understand why FL is so done with this dude and ready to go home.
Actually, one moment had real dramatic tension and sexual tension for me. The scene where the prime minister shows up with his soliders and ML is sitting on the bed, acting unbothered, and she's hiding under the blanket. Then slides her hand out and sighs to complete the act. 👌 👌
Then things get INTERESTING as they embark on misc mission things in secret tunnels.
She's like holy shit exploitative royals are trash.
And he's all.... well if I'm Like That would you still be hanging here with me. She sidesteps the question (as she should, since he has all the power). But then, could YOU give me what I want? And he seems intrigued, I presume because then he has something over her.. It feels like a TEMPTATION MOMENT.
Fuyao: nah j/k I'll get whatever I need myself
@dangermousie mentioned to me that Fuyao is very complete in herself. That's really intriguing to me, considering how so many of the characters seem tormented & controlled/restrained by a need to live up to a legacy or another person's expectations.
that CGI magic hamster tho
Totally forgot the reveal of them being ~fated enemies is this early. So she is supposed to break the seals and go to five kingdoms to do it. But he has a mission to STOP the girl w the 5 colored stone. Now he has a character & plot reason to keep tabs on her! ✔ (actually he has those reasons to simply KILL her lmao but protagonist halo, sorry my friend)
Love that she's not a sucker and won't agree to a bet where she has to be an obedient servant if she loses. Just take reasonable requests. But I wish she didn't just take him at his word that he's the one who can help her break her seal. He's a lying liar who lies!
I like that he's a bit uncertain/dubious about the legend that this girl will Bring About The End. Because that certainly sounds wild. Especially since he met her and she seems pretty normal.

if you are taking prompts can you write an incantava imagine like skam og 2x03 where eleonora has to stay in edoardo's place (but maybe edo has a dog!! and the dog sleeps with them!!)
This is such an old request but guess what, I’m delivering. Better late than never, and it’s relevant to this week’s episode.
Enjoy!
Eleonora didn’t know why she kept rifling through the pockets of her jeans, she wasn’t going to find anything new.
She sighed, leaning her head back against the wall behind her. This was just great. Absolutely fantastic.
She’d followed everyone out of Edoardo’s house, then had the terrible realisation that she didn’t have her bag. When Eva had texted her that Silvia was upset after talking to Edoardo, Eleonora had been in such a panic that she’d completely forgotten to bring it. The real kicker, though, was that she kept her keys in her bag. She was at least thankful she’d remembered to bring her phone and wallet.
Eleonora sighed again, bringing one hand up to her face and pressing her fingers against her forehead. How could she have been so stupid?
She shouldn’t have come to this stupid party. By the time she arrived, Silvia was making out with Luchino in a corner. At least Eleonora had got to see the look on Eva, Fede and Sana’s faces in response to that.
The only true positive to this situation was that she’d spent the last hour of the party sitting on Edoardo’s couch patting his dog. She would at least publicly give Edoardo that; he had a cute dog. In hindsight she didn’t know why she expected Edoardo to own some kind of small, yappy dog. Arturo was a scruffy sheepdog looking thing, and Eleonora thought he was perfect.
She’d had a dog before she moved to Rome, but he’d gone to live with her mother. Eleonora shut her eyes for a second, trying to push thoughts of her mother from her mind. Now wasn’t the time, she had enough to process. She needed to deal with one problem at a time.
Her mother seemed to be able to handle a dog’s needs reasonably well. Weird.
Whatever. Not now.
She pulled her phone out of her thoroughly dug-through pocket, texting Filo to double check that he was out for the night. Ah, to be young and free and not deeply entangled in a Gossip Girl-style drama. Is that an out-of-date reference?
Next she brought up Eva’s contact, figuring she could ask to spend the night at her house if she needed to. There was no answer, though, and Eleonora tried to think of who she should call next. Who of the other girls was most likely to let her spend the night?
She was so wrapped up in her worries that she didn’t notice Edoardo’s front door open next to her.
“Ele?”
She turned so fast, pushing herself off the wall, that she felt a pain in her neck. Bringing one hand up to rub the painful spot, she managed to give Edoardo a grimace-like smile.
“Hi.”
“What are you doing?”
Eleonora shrugged. “I forgot my keys, so I’m just trying to figure out whose house I can stay at for the night.”
Edoardo looked at her for a second, seemingly torn, and Eleonora tried not to squirm under his gaze. “Well, come inside while you figure it out then” he finally said.
Eleonora had thought about this. When she’d realised she didn’t have her keys, she’d considering knocking on Edoardo’s door and asking to stay until she sorted it out. But that would mean spending time with him. Alone. She knew that wasn’t the greatest idea. She’d managed to keep her feelings in check so far, but after their date- and the realisation afterwards that maybe she’d been a little harsh towards him- she didn’t know if she could act normally around him. Her version of normal, that is; she didn’t know if she could act like she despised him anymore. But she couldn’t exactly say no to him now.
Awesome. Here goes nothing.
She gave him a small nod, walking past him and back inside when he stepped aside for her.
“Isn’t anybody at home?”
Ele turned back towards him, standing awkwardly in the middle of the room. “My older brother’s out for the night,” she said with a shrug.
A jingling sound behind her made her turn around, and she grinned at the sight of Arturo bounding up to her. She knelt down, reaching for him. He flopped down next to her, rolling over onto his back with his tongue dangling out of his mouth. What did we do to deserve dogs?
Edoardo laughed behind her. “You know, normally he doesn’t let someone hog his attention quite so much at parties.”
Eleonora shrugged, hiding her smile from him. “Can’t help it if I’m irresistible.”
Edoardo laughed again. “That you are.”
She felt heat flood every inch of her body, pressing her lips together and taking a deep breath. She shouldn’t have said that.
“Do you want a drink or something?”
She looked over her shoulder at him. “No, I’m alright thank you. Do you need help cleaning up?”
He shook his head. “You’re not cleaning up, Ele.”
Eleonora just shrugged. She was more than happy to sit with Arturo while Edoardo cleaned up. She watched as he walked over to a table on the other side of the room and started clearing it of empty cups.
“So is your dad coming home anytime soon?” Eleonora was glad she’d caught herself before she asked when his parents would be home.
Edoardo stopped what he was doing, staring at her for a second. She knew he was taking in her words and realising what they meant. Before she lost her nerve, she started speaking again.
“I’m sorry for what I said to you when you were talking about your mother.”
There was silence between them for a long moment. Eleonora could feel the tension in the room pressing down on her chest.
“It’s okay, Ele.”
Eleonora didn’t know what to say. Part of her wanted to say that he could tell her about his mother whenever he wanted, but she knew she shouldn’t. They couldn’t be friends, they couldn’t reminisce about their childhoods or discuss their current family issues.
“My dad’s never really home. He travels for work a lot.” Edoardo paused. “What about your parents?“
Eleonora was speaking before she could stop herself. “My mum stays in Padua with her boyfriend most of the time. She doesn’t come home much.”
She paused for a second before figuring she may as well continue now she’d started. “She’s meant to be home with us now, actually.”
And just like that they were discussing their current family issues. Whoops.
Edoardo abandoned cleaning and sat down on the couch. Arturo left Eleonora’s side to join him and she followed behind him, sitting down next to Edoardo.
“So she’s meant to be home with you right now but isn’t?”
Eleonora sighed. Why was she discussing this with him? She hadn’t even talked to Eva about it. She barely talked with Filo about it.
“Yeah. Her boyfriend, Paolo, has kids with his ex-wife. He normally has them on weekends and he doesn’t this weekend so they’re spending a few days in Venice.”
Edoardo was silent next to her. Eleonora couldn’t decide which situation was worse, a parent who chose work over their kid or a parent who chose another person.
“That sucks. What about your dad?”
And there it was. What she really hadn’t wanted to talk about.
“Uh, he died.”
Edoardo’s arm was suddenly around her shoulder, pulling her gently into his side. “I’m sorry, Ele.”
She let out a single, dry, laugh. “I’m sorry about your mother.”
She hated this. Telling people. It was slightly less terrible when the other person had been through it too. But she still hated this.
It was interesting, though, seeing how people reacted. If people, especially people their age, hadn’t been through something similar they never knew how to act and it showed. She could see it, how uncomfortable they were. So she shut it away, tried her best to be okay for everyone. No one wanted to deal with her not being okay.
When people had been through something similar, it was interesting seeing their reaction too. Often they tried to comfort people the way they’d needed to be comforted; sometimes the way they wish they had been. But they still didn’t really want to deal with it. No one did.
Maybe Edoardo just needed a hug.
Sometimes Eleonora thought all she needed was a really long hug.
Arturo, who’d been lying at their feet, stood up and pressed his face against her thigh.
No, she didn’t need a hug. She needed a dog.
There was silence for a while, Eleonora just sitting there with her head against Edoardo’s shoulder and his arm around her. Finally she spoke up. “Do you have any cookies?”
Edoardo looked down at her, grinning. “Of course.”
Eleonora sat cross-legged on Edoardo’s couch, a tin of cookies resting in her lap. Arturo was standing in front of her, trying to stick his head into the tin.
“No, Arturo, no! They’re not for you!”
“He’d believe you more if you weren’t laughing” Edoardo said as he walked into the room, the last of the cleaning up done. He sat down next to her, resting his arm behind her on the back of the couch.
“I’m keeping your dog” Eleonora told him solemnly.
He shifted slightly down on the couch, resting his head against the back of it as he watched her and Arturo with a smile. “No deal. But you can come visit him. He likes walks on the beach. We’ll take him on one.”
Eleonora looked over at him, rolling her eyes. “Ah, so that’s why you have such a cute dog? You use him to get girls. I bet you suggest beach walks to all the girls.”
Edoardo scoffed, throwing his hands up in the air in mock surrender. “Yes, you’ve caught me.”
Eleonora tried to ignore the way her heart was beating way too fast and her cheeks were heating up. Her lipstick probably blended in with her face.
“I bet you even take him on walks to pick up girls. Do you have him trained to run up to cute girls?”
Edoardo laughed loudly, causing Arturo to bark in response. Eleonora laughed as well, shushing Arturo and scratching behind his ears. She seriously wanted to keep this dog. Maybe she could trade one more date…
“Has your brother got back to you?” Edoardo asked the question reluctantly, and she had to admit she’d kind of forgotten why she was sitting on Edoardo’s couch with him.
“No” she said with a shake of her head.
“Well, you can stay here if you want.” He quickly hurried through his next words, seemingly desperate to get the next words out. “I can sleep on the couch and you can take my bed. No pressure. Whatever you want.”
Her heart thudded once in response. She said the next words without thinking. “You can’t sleep on this couch. You’d be so uncomfortable.”
Eleonora and Edoardo locked eyes, and her heart sped up in response.
Her poor heart. She was going to need a doctor after this.
Maybe she just needed a new heart. This one obviously wasn’t doing it’s job properly.
“Okay” was all he said in response. She sensed he was scared to say anything more in case she changed her mind.
“I only have one request” she said, trying her best to look serious.
“Yes?”
“The dog gets to stay with us.”
Edoardo laughed, tilting his head slightly to the side and giving her a look that made her breath catch in her throat. “Deal.”
As Eleonora followed Edoardo and Arturo from the room, she checked her phone. She hadn’t actually bothered to check for a response from Filo, and she did have one from him after all.
Bailed on the night out. What’s up?
Eleonora bit her lip, pausing to text back.
Nothing. Just wanted to know your plans. I’m staying at Eva’s. Love you.
She slid her phone back into her back pocket, knowing she was doing the wrong thing. Oh well. She was a failure. We all have flaws.
Edoardo’s room wasn’t what she expected. Like his dog, she didn’t know why she’d expected otherwise.
She’d also tried really hard not to think about the inside of Edoardo’s room.
It was simple, but not boring. He’d hung artwork on the walls, and a stack of books sat by what she assumed was his side of the bed.
She smirked at the very sad plant sitting on his bedside table. He followed her eyes, sighing dramatically.
“I unfortunately do not have what they call the ‘green thumb’.“
Eleonora just shook her head at him, still smiling.
“Do you want to take your makeup off? I have some stuff you can use…” Edoardo walked across the room as he spoke, pulling things out of his dresser. He turned around, holding out a shirt and pair of boxers to her.
She was still processing the fact that it sounded like he actually washed his face, a miracle for a teenage boy, so took the clothes without comment.
“The bathroom’s just outside to the right.”
Eleonora just nodded in response, following his directions to the bathroom. She changed, trying to ignore the fact that the t-shirt smelled faintly of him. She raided his drawers, astounded by him being possibly the only teenage boy ever to have a decent skincare routine.
She stared at herself in the mirror, running her fingers through her hair to try and tame it. There was a faint trace of mascara underneath her eyes, and she tried to rub it away with her fingertips but it just left her skin red instead. She sighed, giving up and making her way back to Edoardo’s bedroom.
Eleonora halted in his doorway, watching his bare back as he bent over his bed and fluffed up the pillows. Yes, his bare back. He expected her to sleep next to his bare goddamn chest.
Yeah, she was definitely going to need a new heart.
Taking a breath to steady herself, Eleonora tried to casually stroll across the room to the other side of the bed. “I assume this is my side” she said.
Edoardo grinned at her. “Yeah, that can be your side.”
Eleonora gave him a stern look, but didn’t comment otherwise. She shouldn’t have said that. She would have no permanent spot in this bed. Nope. It didn’t matter how good he looked shirtless.
For the record, very good.
She pulled back the covers on the bed, sitting down and sliding her legs underneath. She looked over at Arturo and patted the covers next to her, smiling when he instantly jumped up next to her.
Edoardo sighed. “The things I do for you. He’s not normally allowed on the bed.”
Eleonora shrugged. She didn’t want to admit that she wanted to keep something in between them.
Edoardo walked to the door, reaching out to turn the lights off.
“Ready?”
“Mm-hmm.”
He flicked the light switch, flooding the room with darkness. Eleonora held her breath, trying to hear his footsteps as he walked back to the bed. She felt the bed dip when he sat down, her heart beating hard in her chest. There was some rustling of sheets as he got comfortable, and then total silence.
“Goodnight, bellisima.”
“Buona notte, stronzo.”
His laugh was extra loud in the darkness. “You don’t think I’m an asshole. You like me.”
Eleonora wished she could just roll her eyes at him in response like she normally would. The whole pitch black thing was a bit of a nuisance in that regard. She slid herself down slightly in the bed, pulling the covers up to her chin.
“You still have shitty hair.”

edoardos reaction when someone says something really disrespectful and nasty about eleonora
“You think there’ll be a lot of chicks coming tonight?” Giuseppe turned his gaze towards Edoardo, shielding his eyes from the striking sunlight streaming through the windows. Edoardo leaned back in his chair, looking around the classroom with a bored expression. He gave his friend a mild shrug, running a hand through his curls.
“I don’t know,” Edoardo followed up on his shrug, his eyes turning to Federico sitting across the table. “Didn’t Rodi brag about inviting the friends of that girl, uh, what’s her name? Nora? Elena?”
Fede frowned at the obvious acting of his best friend. “Eleonora Sava?”
Edoardo snapped his fingers like he had truly managed to forget the name of the girl he kept having dreams about every other night. “Yeah, that one.”
“Yeah, Chicco mentioned inviting Silvia and her friends, but he never mentioned Eleonora. I think you thought of her on her own, Incanti,” Federico fired at his friend with a smile twitching at the corners of his mouth. Edoardo faced his smile with a stony expression, pondering whether he could still find a way out of the situation.
Eventually, Edoardo shrugged and turned his gaze out of the window overlooking the nearby streets. Fede and Giuseppe sunk in to an irrelevant discussion about the girls and whether they had ever hooked up with any of them - although they all knew the tiresome drama that had ensued in the fall when Federico had jumped Eva Brighi at a party. The memory made Edoardo roll his eyes.
“But that Eleonora girl, right?” Giuseppe said with a laugh, instantly attracting Edoardo’s attention. “You know, with the brown hair and the judgy look in her eyes. I mean, she seems like a prude but I bet I could make her purr like a kitten.”
Edoardo felt rage so strong it was ridiculous. He felt his fingers digging into his palm so deeply it nearly made him bleed as he slowly turned to look at Giuseppe, still immersed in the disgusting conversation with Fede. “You think that’s funny?”
“What?” Giuseppe asked, frowning.
“Stop acting dumber than you are, Capone. I meant you talking about Eleonora like she’d ever look at you twice,” Edoardo answered, his expression shadowed with such anger it made even Fede lean back in his chair.
“Edo,” Federico whispered with a warning, knowing the antics of his best friend.
“Shut the fuck up, Fede.”
“Listen Incanti, I don’t know what’s your problem and to be honest, I don’t give a shit. You think you’ve got some weird dibs on Eleonora Sava or? I can’t talk about her in front of you? Why is that, Edoardo? Did she break your little heart without us knowing? I hope she did, because that just means she’s probably gonna need someone to cling to at night-”
It was like everything in Edoardo’s head blacked out, and for a few seconds he was out of his own body, staring at himself bouncing up from the chair, his hands clinging to the collar of Giuseppe’s shirt. Then, before he could stop himself, his fist collided with Giuseppe’s nose, dragging out a scream of rage from Giuseppe’s lips.
“If I hear you say another disgusting word about Eleonora, your nose won’t be the only thing I’ll break,” Edoardo hissed out through gritted teeth, tossing Giuseppe on the floor. Then, as the throbbing pain sunk into his brain, Edoardo stepped over the boy on the floor and walked out the empty classroom.

What I like and dislike about each Skam Version:
The order is when I watched them. Which is basically the same order when they came out since I watch clip for clip live with every version since the evak cuddle clip 3 years ago. I won't point out things twice if a remake did it exactly the same. For example the blackmailing of Noora. Disliked it in the og, ditto with every other version. Another disclaimer: I don't have a favorite version since no one was perfect from first to last season. Different versions have different favorite seasons for me.
What I loved about the og 🇳🇴: The complete different format of a show with the clips, social media, roughly camera work that made it look like a reality show or documentary. The actors being the age of their characters and not all being thin, beautiful models. The pov and seing the boring aspects of life too. All the casual parties. The music and the whole russbus culture. In general getting to know so much about other cultures that I didn't thought about before for even a minute. Eva standing up for herself and breaking up with Jonas. Penetrator Chris as the comic relief, he may be a fuckboy, but he is isn't sexist or homophobic, his one liners are iconic. A normal reaction to Isak being gay and Evak actually getting an happy ending and a proper love scene like any hetero couple gets. Eskilds gay pride speech, it made me rethink my own mindset, as well as Sanas line about hate doesn't come from religion, it comes from fear and her whole conversation with yousef about religion. The guys helping Isak get back his man and Magnus hilarious questions, but also his helpful advice. Everything in the scene with Eva's 18th birthday. Even singing imagine. The cuddle clip, literally my favorite clip in all the versions, the spiderman kiss and the universe talk. Yousana love shown without any touching. The girls picking up Sana with the los losers bus. The ballon squads YouTube channel. How sweet and protective Elias was about Sana. 5 fine frøkner! Kosegruppa. If I could chose I would want a season for Magnus and Penetrator Chris.
What I disliked: Jonas treating Eva like she's stupid. Everything with William pretty much, starting with his non existent personality to blackmailing Noora, dissing Vilde, not listening after the SA happening etc. Nooras completely change in attitude from feminist to falling for the fuckboy and betraying your friend, also, ik most of the fans love it, her speeches, the one at William and also the one at Nicolai, it was just too long and arrogant to me sorry, I don't thought yes queen, I more thought yeah okay we got it already. The lack of communication with literally everyone. Vilde being so judgemental. Eva 'stealing' Jonas. Even not being able to speak for himself about his MI. The hate against Sonja, yes her saying Even can't love was fucked up, but her outrage and pain was more than understandable for me. The call your gf scene, idk it just makes me uncomfortable and I just felt bad for the girls. The whole show basically revolving around Noora in every season and her amount of screen time. Chris and Emma in the end, a huge wtf that made no sense and came out of nowhere, as well as Jonas and Eva's suddenly reunion.
What I loved about 🇮🇹: Be aware that I'm biased since Italy is my favorite country since childhood. I love everything about it. Landscapes, food, clothes, cars, the men^^ and ofc the language and names. First and foremost the cinematography. Also the music. All the girls being pretty as fuck. I feel like they where more mature too, but that goes for the boys and Eduardo too. Elia being there since season 1. The skating shenanigans. Martino and Eva being the closest version of this friendship (which is why I hope they continue this in the next season and make them close again, not going for the best buds). Their parents being more involved. Edoardo not insulting Silvia. Giovanni constantly cursing and gesturing like the true Italian that he is. Ofc the bromance in s2, that was what the season was all about for me more than the romance (reason in the dislikes), how they all cared for each other, had actual conversations, were with marti everywhere and always supported him. Gio being the best friend ever and constantly checking in on marti. How all the boys and edos rich gang stood up for marti against the homophobes, I never cheered so loud during a clip istg. The man, the myth, the legends Chico roddi :D. Eduardos soft side, when he played creep or cried when Eleonora could tell him herself what happend. The way they merged the squads together and all hang out boys and girls and also Filippo. Filippo and Eleonora being siblings and literally everything that fillipo does, his sassyness is unmatched. Cute Short king luca, carefree elia. Seriously I could write novels about this boy squad. Their parties and how they do them at 9pm during business days. Guardami Martino! 😂 If I could chose I would want a Gio and Fillipo season.
What I disliked: The darkness, especially s2 although it looked romantic a lot of times. The way Gio kisses, listen I love him with all my heart but he looks like he wants to eat faces or lick them like a dog 😂. I couldn't get into Niccolò, he never grew on me, came of kinda cold and the chemistry between the actors compared to the other versions isn't that great imo. It also has the only Sana I don't like and don't care for her season. It's not bc of the controversy about the actress. She just comes of rude in the show and also has way too less scenes to get excited for her pov, Her relationship with Marti is also non existent. The lack of social media and texts. Some of the actors looking way too old.
What I loved about 🇫🇷: The many changes of season 3. The piano scene with literally heart eyes. Eliott being the biggest dork. Eliott being able to express his feelings about his MI. Eliott saying it's not a girl. The rain kiss. Lucas being a major cutie. His relationship with the girls and Manon in particular. How they helped Daphne with the room. That we get an Arthur season, he's my favorite Madhi. How happy they were when Lucas came out and how they cheered everytime they saw Eliott. The elu social media content. Yann apologizing for his behavior and comments in the past. The hedgehog and racoon personas. Imans dad. Alexia and Arthur becoming a thing. The bts and Interviews, especially the attentive Maxel friendship.
What I disliked: The first two seasons being 1:1 copy from the og, I only watched them bc I had a close french friend when it aired. The whole Charles shit in s3&4. The acoustic music often being a bit to on the nose, like the music before a jumpscare in horror movies, for example the common room meeting, it was so obvious they would fall in love. S3 of France is probably my favorite version of this season, but it is like a dramatic romcom movie and felt less realistic compared to the others and the og. Emma is super bland and kinda dumb. Mika being super rude to Lucas. The disrespect against iman. Sofiane actually dating Manon.
What I loved about Druck 🇩🇪: (Also biased since I am german) Jonas sweetness. Hans is hilarious. Jonas and Hannah reunion. Kiki turning into the sweetest. The girl squad being really close. The boy squad being dumbasses. The change of Alex and showing his anxiety. Kiki and Carlos being a wholesome couple. The changes and extra content. Amira and Mohammeds softness. Their sm game.
What I disliked: The dialogue sounds very cringey to me and super scripted. The Mia actress looks like she doesn't like to kiss Alex at all, no chemistry and no love to be seen for me. Mia being arrogant in general. That Amira had only 7 episodes and Mia extra concent for her boring relationship. I never could get into Matteo much, he was to much of a sloth to me, let everything just happen and while that may be realistic, it's for the viewer pretty boring. I also couldn't get into David much, we knew barely nothing about him for most of the time and then he was absent for like 3 weeks straight. Davenzi also came of as more like best friends to me as an couple in love, they were cuter in s4. Unrelated to the plot or show, but the druck stans that feel super entitled and superior.
What I loved about 🇪🇸: The made subtle changes from the start. Lucas coming out to Eva and not being a snake. Jorge being the softest Jonas and not lying about weed. The girl squad being the closest and cutest with another, as well as the boys and them being a mega squad since s1, way less inner group drama and the friendships in this versions are just super wholesome to me and my favorite girl squad. Also my favorite amira, she wants to adopt everyone and they all care and respect her religion and I have high hopes for her season. Their parties. Also the remake with the most sm content and texts. The only P Chris version that comes nearly close to the og, being sassy, charismatic and having hella sexual chemistry with eva. The fact that also my favorite chris got her own season, that they changed it to a wlw plot that was displayed tastefully and not overly sexualized. The portray of having borderline, being shown how it really is. Lucas having an Youtube channel and how supportive his boys reacted and how tender him and Jorge are, I can't stretched enough how much I love and stan attentive, genuine male friendships without toxic masculinity. Hugo being an absolute sweat heart since his first appearance, not being petty or mad with Cris and just being a true friend. If I could chose I would want a season about Lucas and Amira.
What I disliked: Alejandro looks like 14 to me and I'm not keen on seeing this plot for the 8th time. Viri and Cris clothes a lot of times, Ik they dress like teenagers these days do, but it just looks horrendous to me sry. Them stretching out the story between Cris and Joana so much and breaking them up like 5 times.
What I loved about wtfock 🇧🇪: I just started with season 3 live, because I couldn't get into the characters when the first clips of s1 dropped. I later binged s2 and watched some key clips of s1.
They changed many things for the better. First and foremost Senne, him being supportive of Zoë, a good flat mate and encouraging dad friend. Zoë giving him way more of a hard time and making him work for it. Robbe moving into the flatshare and becoming bff with Zoë. Not breaking up Zoenne and making Senne an important character in s3 as not only Zoës boyfriend. Sander! I love his whole art hoe - e boy brand, his music taste, his clothes, hair, how reckless he is, his blant flirting. Robbe being an absolute baby ™ and clingy af. The Willems chemistry is unmatched in the skam universe. Yasmina is so fucking pretty and intelligent. Rosanders date. Milan being sooo cute and Robbe having confidence in him and them being genuinely friends. I could swoon over the found family in the flatshare 24/7 and wish I could live with them. Robbes dad asking if Sander is a vegetarian. Luca & Noor shading Moyo. Noor having a personality besides being naïve and a beard for the Isak. Robbe caring about his mom.
What I disliked: Senne starting of as the worst William with his bracelets and showing around Ambers nudes. Ambers rudeness in general. The boys talking only about girls and totally ignoring Robbe for 6 weeks straight, especially Jens. Moyos sexist and homophobic comments and behavior. Clips and drama with no explanation or follow ups, brushed off or rushed scenes. The gay bashing and robbes slurs, them turning everything into drama for drama sake. For multiple weeks only clips that were either total drama or happy clips with no normal daily life. Exaggerating the robbe and noor make outs. No Sander the first 2 weeks. The lack of answeres from Sander and questions from Robbe, brushed of with one liners. Barely any texts.

Skam Italia season 2, episode 1 reaction
Hello, how’s everybody doing? We survived the first week of a S3 remake. I wrote a little (a lot) about it.
Just to be clear: I completely understand if people just want to hang on and enjoy the ride because it’s S3 again, we love it, it’s an important story for many people! But so far there are aspects of Skam Italia S2 that I am positive about, and there are areas where I have criticisms. Don’t read if you don’t want to hear some comments that are not 100% enthusiasm. For real, I’m not trying to be a buzz kill, like I’m fine with posting these to crickets, lmao, because it’s a fun exercise for me to analyze the remakes even if I’m essentially talking to myself.
Thank you so much to everyone translating this show! Imagine if no one was translating this season. The fandom would lose its goddamn mind. You are literally saving the planet from destruction, thank you for your service.
At the risk of sounding pretentious, I’m going to put additional disclaimers here, because people have strong feelings about Skam S3, and people also have strong feelings about Skam Italia, and there is already drama when those feelings bump up against each other:
The reason why I started doing reactions to the remakes was to compare the versions of Skam and analyze what worked and what didn’t in the adaptation process. This was a clever change to fit this culture, this was awkward and didn’t work, etc. While I do want to judge S2 of Skam Italia on its own merits, I’m not going to leave the original series out of it and look at this season as something that exists in a Skamless void, because that’s not my aim with these recaps. So if you are really not interested in comparisons to the original show (positive, negative, or neutral) then perhaps don’t read further.
I’m also taking into account this is a different culture than the original show and noting how that might affect this story, and that it’s a big deal to have an LGBT Italian lead in a series and Italian fans are very excited. So I’m keeping that in mind! But I also think that, should Skam Italia bungle something, it’s okay to call it out, it doesn’t get a free pass. We criticized parts of the original series while praising it where it succeeded. Sana’s season, for example, is extremely progressive as a concept (a Muslim girl lead is extremely rare) but had numerous aspects where it stumbled, and as a fandom there was no shortage of criticism. This goes for both the social justice and educational aspects of Skam as well as writing, directing, acting, and other basic storytelling stuff.
Okay? Okay.
Episode 1
Clip 1 - GET OUT OF THE FUCKING TUB, LOSERS
Right away, I loved the voicemails. They sound like real accounts of homophobia, and I don’t know if these are actors recreating them or real people sharing their own experiences, but it was a powerful intro to the season.
I also like zooming in over the city while these voicemails played, over all these dark apartment buildings, because it felt like those voices could be coming from anywhere. They were anonymous. Your neighbor could be gay, the woman who lives downstairs could be a lesbian, and you might never know because they’re in the closet. You might never know how much they’d suffered due to homophobia. But they’re also everywhere. Despite their treatment in society, LGBT people aren’t “the other” but can be anyone you know. That’s why it zooms into the party, to link these anonymous voices to a face that we we do know.
I saw some people suggesting that maybe these have to do with Martino’s involvement in the radio station, and that this will be some part of a project that he does, and while I think it’d be awesome if the radio station came into play with his personal development, I’m ehhhhh about these turning out to be part of Martino’s project all along because it doesn’t seem like it goes with the real time format, and IDK, it seems too literal. But I’d be OK with it these were more of a thematic device and Martino has a literal confession along these lines later on.

...who’s that blue-haired girl?
I feel like Edoardo being immediately on screen was to reassure any OG Skam viewers and Incantava fans who hadn’t yet gotten the message that EDOARDO IS DEFINITELY NOT GOING ANYWHERE THIS SEASON DO NOT PANIC.
Silvia is watching some girls dance and for a hot second I hoped they were finally hinting at the lesbian Vilde story we deserve, but it seems like she is watching them because of their slim figures, because she reconsiders the piece of cake she was going to eat. Silvia, no.
Silvia is very upset about the hotties at the party and Sana says there only would have been four people there and reassures her that she’s beautiful, awwww. But Silvia is upset about some Argentinean girl, who I assume is an apex hottie that she fears will outshine her, perhaps?
Silvia waves at Edoardo, who ignores her. You know, Edoardo’s apology to Silvia would feel more genuine if he acted like a baseline decent human being toward her instead of refraining from basic politeness because OH NO he has to shake her off his back (except when he can exploit her interest for his own gain).
It’s Italian Eskild! He says that Edoardo’s hair is indeed shit, suggesting Eleonora has told him all about it (something for the Incantava shippers) and I mean, I support him giving Silvia a boost, and I support any dragging of Edoardo, except Edoardo’s hair is like the one thing about him that is not shit.
He takes Silvia to dance and comments about checking her boobs to see if she is a virgin, so this is filling in for S2’s “It’s Britney bitch” moment. I guess they’re going to incorporate some Skam S2 material into this season in order to accommodate for the switch in storylines.
Hey, you know what I could have strongly done without? Filippo grabbing Silvia’s tit out of nowhere. There’s sometimes a tendency for gay men to grope women and get away with it because it’s obviously not sexual, so what’s the problem? Except the problem is that men, no matter what their sexuality, feel like they have unfettered access to women’s bodies. I’m not saying HE’S CANCELED or anything, but it irritated me that they threw in such a small moment that wasn’t needed, especially because this is our introduction to this character. Thanks, I want casual groping to be my initial impression of this guy. (Just to be clear, this dialogue happens in the original, but there is no unauthorized tit-grabbing from Eskild.)
And the fact that this moment went so unremarked upon is a sign of how normalized this behavior is, frankly. But they played it off as a funny moment so it’s okay!! Lol Filippo, you’re supposed to be gay!!!
Incantava shippers get a morsel before Eleonora leaves for London as she and Edoardo share a ~glance.
So Filo is Eleonora’s brother, which is a good way to incorporate his character considering it’s unlikely for Martino or Eleonora to live with a random roommate instead of their families, and they hadn’t set up the Filo character in S2 so his appearance in Martino’s life is going to need to be established quickly. So that makes both the Eleonora-Filo and Martino-Filo relationships more plausible in this culture.
Although lmao, imagine some of Eskild’s S2 scenes now that he and the Noora character are related. I’m sure Eleonora will need to bleach her eyeballs if she walks in on her brother getting his dick sucked to Circle of Life.
Eva catches up to Martino in the kitchen, and the flirtatious vibes are there right away, you know this isn’t going anywhere good. She tries to kiss him, so this is basically that scene from S2 where Eva tries to make out with Isak at a party, except way more awkward because this Eva actually manages to get a few kisses on Martino. Yikes.
Of course he’s not into it, and she’s just like yeah, go to your friends. Go find Gio. She knows where his real interests like.
Martino answering some random landline is pretty endearing, especially when he has cans of beer he needs to balance to do so.
Him being like “I am not the owner.” Lmao, he’s a sweetie. I suppose this was maybe a neighbor or someone wondering about the noise level and activity at the party, and that was why the police show up later? But I like to imagine that they were filming in this building, the phone rang randomly, and they were like, eh, throw it in.
So now we’re moving into the OG S3 content, with Martino entering the bathroom and sitting in the tub with his friends drinking and getting high.
Elia is the second person to mention the Argentinean girl, so I guess she must be a stone cold babe. Are we ever going to see her? Or will her hotness exist only in legends?
They do the whole song and dance where Martino pretends like these girls aren’t hot enough for him, while the other dudes are not having it. Well, to be fair, he really isn’t into them. I’m not sure what to make of his reactions, because Isak was very performative, and Martino just seems indifferent.
The boys claim to have gotten Fede a present, I wonder what it was? Probably just booze or something?
Lmao I was wondering why this girl would use this random out-of-the-way bathroom, but apparently two dudes are fucking in the other one (what are the odds it’s Filo).
What assholes, get out of the fucking tub for two minutes and let the girl pee in peace! I guess they’re just lazy and stoned, but JFC.
Instead of saying the girl looks like Eleven from Stranger Things, Martino tells her she looks like a frog… I kind of see it? But she’s also a babe, soooo.
Not gonna lie, I really did not like how they adapted this scene. “We’ll leave you alone to pee but you have to hook up with one of us” is not … cute … like it takes it out of negging teenage asshole territory and gets creepy. Maybe because of the hellscape that has been RL politics for the past few weeks, but I’m not in the mood for any of this boys-will-be-boys shit.
We know that one new dude must be Magnus because he is instantly rejected.
Martino gives the boys the thumbs up once Italian Emma starts making out with him and they’re leaving.
Martino didn’t actually do anything to win over this girl, really? With Isak it was a performance: Emma came in and he made a determined effort to flirt with her, he negged her, he complimented her, he got out of the tub and was more active in his pursuit. All of that was because he was trying to seem straight in front of his friends. Martino, on the other hand, was far more passive. He made the frog comment but that seems less like negging when all four of them are sitting there being dicks to this girl, rather than him alone, and she just happened to choose him out of the four. Isak was putting some effort into it and pretending to be interested until the boys left and things got steamier, but Martino just plain is not trying. He ain’t feeling it.
This is one of the disadvantages of writing recaps episode by episode as they air and not when you can look at the full season, though. Because on the one hand, making Martino more of a passive participant in his fake heterosexuality is fine, but on the other hand, if that’s not their intent - if they’re more or less going to follow Isak’s character arc for him - then I think they missed a big point of this scene in not making Martino pursue this girl more actively. But we don’t know exactly if this is a thoughtful, deliberate choice or an oversight. (For example, in S1 of Skam Italia, several of Eva’s key moments of “who are you?” were eliminated, Gio’s skate park speech was rewritten with a different focus, etc. which made me wonder about her character arc. It could have worked if they had intentionally made these changes to arrive at a different conclusion, but in the end Eva’s final speech to Gio is the same, the arc is supposed to be the same even though crucial points have been left out, and it didn’t feel as strong. So it’s hard to say whether Martino’s character is supposed to be written with subtle differences that change his characterization, or if they don’t realize how small edits can affect the perception of this character.)
I am a little alarmed that the girl goes for the blowjob like immediately after choosing Martino? Isak was hardcore flirting with Emma so it made more sense she was trying to do that with him. With this girl, she’s just trying to pee and some random guy’s like “Hook up with one of us and we’ll leave you be” and she’s like, “Sounds like a plan!” Damn girl, didn’t you need to really use the toilet? But you’re going to stop to blow him? Okay.
Eva is stumped by seeing that Martino was in the bathroom with a girl, probably moreso because he just rejected her upstairs. Well, this girl isn’t his best friend’s ex, sooooo it makes a smidge more sense, Martino’s sexuality aside.
Incantava moment: Edoardo brings up the deal with the apology to Silvia, so that made it into this remake. Part of the deal was to erase the wall of conquests - smart of Eleonora - and I guess Edo did that, hopefully, but he also reminds her that she agreed to a date.
What a power move of Eleonora to go to England to avoid this date.
At least Edo was not pursuing her prior to this, apparently. It would be a shame if they suddenly had him pressure her into a date in Eleonora’s season.
Okay, I realize that Martino didn’t appear to have the best options to hide his weed, but he’s really just gonna put it in a box on the railing where it could easily get knocked over the balcony or blown away or something? Lmao.
The scene of the boys running away from the cops was cute and had that “reckless youth enjoying the night” vibe.
So Martino clearly still has Giovanni feelings, and Giovanni is going to be crashing at his place tonight. Look at that hand on Martino’s shoulder, probably burning through his shirt. I like perhaps acknowledging the idea that all this casual affection between guys in this culture can take on a hidden toll for a closeted gay kid.
Martino mentions that his mom is freaking out, so they’re openly acknowledging Martino’s mom situation in front of the other guys (when Isak was less open about it) and Giovanni gives him a hug that fucks Martino up. It seemed like Martino didn’t want Giovanni to come over, probably both because of his crush and because of his mom situation.
Clip 2 - Sad boy slumber party
Martino wakes up and stares at Giovanni, who’s still sleeping. Martino is not on the bed, but on the floor, ostensibly because Giovanni threw him off the bed but really because he doesn’t want to be so close to Giovanni. He pointedly turns down Giovanni’s invitation to get back in the bed. This is a really delicate situation; this is such a casual thing for Giovanni that he doesn’t even think about it, but for Martino it’s this extremely loaded scenario that comes with dangers, so better not risk it.
Eva calls and wants to talk to Martino, but he can’t since he’s with Giovanni. Giovanni says that he’s been trying to get back together with Eva, and making a fool out of himself, so Martino is certainly not enjoying about this reminder that Giovanni likes girls, Giovanni loved (loves?) Eva, it will never be Giovanni and Martino in the way he wants. Also, awkward of course because Eva tried to kiss Martino, which says a lot about how she thinks of Giovanni - probably not keen to get back with him if she can make a move on his best friend, even when drunk.
Okay, I have a deeply unpopular opinion and that is: while Skam Italia’s cinematography is often visually impressive, at times it does not work with the material it’s supposed to be conveying. It’s not style over substance, but style against substance. There are several examples, but to go into one now: why the fuck is the lighting so dark in certain moments. Whyyyyyy.
And before you tell me, I do know why the director is perhaps doing this. It’s supposed to reflect Martino’s state of mind, it’s supposed to make things seem bleak, it’s supposed to contrast with the sunnier scenes such as later in the episode with Niccolò, etc. etc. The problem is that I do not think it is effective for the format of this show. Here’s the thing: we are supposed to be in Martino’s POV for a reason. His reactions should not be hidden from us, this audience, and to me the lighting is a barrier from getting closer to him and getting fully into his mindset. Like, the camera should be eating this shit up! Give me all the microexpressions! Federico Cesari is doing a nice job of acting so far and it bugs me that the lighting is obscuring some of his facial expressions. Now it makes sense for ambiguity on the part of say, Niccolò, who will be keeping secrets for most of the season (based on Even’s role) but this is Martino’s season, and we as the audience should be deep into his head every step of the way. This is supposed to be an immersive experience. There is zero reason to obscure Martino’s reactions from the audience. Martino may have a barrier between him and his friends, his family, his schoolmates, society at large - but not us, the viewers. (And not just the lighting, but for example, that his face is shot in profile for part of this scene, which again doesn’t give us a full range of Martino’s reactions, or the amount of distance between the camera and Martino at times. Even if you can assume what Martino is thinking and feeling enough that you don’t need really clear reaction shots, it’s like there’s a gap and we’re not supposed to get too close.)
Like obviously this cinematography is working for people, and if it is for you, great! If this were a different show, I could be fine with it. But not with a series that is supposed to put me fully into this character’s head, not keep me at a distance.
Covitti is the girl from the bathroom? She’s followed Martino on IG. I feel like, if they’re doing a repeat of Emma’s involvement, then it doesn’t work as well as to why she’d suddenly be interested in Martino. With Isak, there was something karmic about it, because he blatantly pursued when he met her, and it’s like he reaped what he sowed, you know? Don’t get me wrong, he absolutely did not deserve the much later repercussions with Emma outing him, but the immediate aftermath of him flirting with Emma showed that his actions had consequences. He couldn’t just make out with this girl for the benefit of an audience and then drop her. With Martino, he was so much more passive with Covitti, that it feels less earned. I mean he’s very cute, but him being doggedly pursued by her doesn’t have as much to do with his characterization, unless the point is that he refuses to put his foot down and reject her. (A valid characterization choice! But hopefully an intentional one.)
We get to see Martino’s mom and on the one hand, it’s pretty cool that she’s around in this version, but on the other hand, goddamn am I apprehensive about how they will depict her.
Martino really does not want to eat lunch with her. Apparently they have chicken and potatoes four times a week. Credit to Giovanni, he acts normal and is polite to Martino’s mom and is eager to eat with her.
Eva apologizes for trying to kiss Martino. So Giovanni is trying to get back with Eva and Eva made a move on Martino. Awkward! Eva is also probably dying to bring up the topic of that girl in the bathroom with Martino, let’s be real.
Giovanni chides Martino for being an asshole and says if he didn’t treat his mom like shit, maybe he would help her! Hey, no offense, Giovanni, but fuck off. I agree that Martino was not nice to his mom, I agree that he should treat her better. But Giovanni is a visitor. He is a guest in this household. He doesn’t know shit about what it’s like to live there or what’s the best course of action. No, actually it’s not as easy being kind to someone and it’ll fix their mental illness.
If I sound weirdly pissed about this, it’s because I am speaking as someone who has been a caretaker to a mentally ill parent. One of the most frustrating things was when people who were completely outside of my situation told me how to deal with it. It’s fucking easy to think you have the answers when you don’t live in this situation, when you have the freedom to go back to your own home when shit gets really rough. When you likely haven’t seen a loved one at their worst.
To clarify, this isn’t necessarily a flaw of the show, just an area where I think a character is flawed. But I would hate for Giovanni’s POV to be validated. Of course Martino should not treat his mother poorly, but he needs to do that on his own, not because some outsider who has no idea what is going on in this house thinks so.
Anyway. Shut the fuck up, Gio.
Eva also doesn’t want Martino to tell Gio, so you know Gio is going to find out at some point. Here’s the thing: if this drama is more along the lines of ~ooo Eva kissed Martino and he didn’t tell Gio and Gio feels BETRAYED when he finds out~ then it sounds tedious and exactly the kind of drama I don’t want. It’s not necessary, it’s honestly a very low-stakes situation. However, if it’s more of a lead-in to S1’s drama being revealed, and Gio learns about what happened with Martino ratting out Eva, that would be interesting. I’d be very interested in seeing where it goes. I think the writers have to know that this would be the most compelling aspect, so here’s hoping.
Not gonna lie, one thing I liked about S3 was the lack of heterosexual relationship drama (other than what directly serviced Isak and Even’s relationship), and I don’t want this season to stray too far into Eva/Gio stuff. Though I realize that by switching S2 and S3, they probably feel like they have to account for their relationship.
In S2 of the original, we saw the remnants of Eva/Jonas more on Eva’s side, through Noora’s eyes. Eva told herself she was over Jonas and they were just friends, but we could see that wasn’t totally true. With this season, though, we’ll probably see Eva/Giovanni more through Giovanni’s eyes, because even if Martino is Eva’s friend, he’s Giovanni’s best friend.
Clip 3 - The Phantom Clitoris
Lmao, Luca being like “Guess what happened to me” and Gio being like “Did you put an egg in the microwave again?” (I mean, you can cook eggs in a microwave even if it’s not the best way!)
Luca hooked up with a girl! If we believe him. She didn’t have a clitoris! Except he didn’t know what it was called. I don’t know whether to think that if it he didn’t know what it was called, he probably didn’t know how to look for one, or that he’s straight up lying. But this is interesting because Jonas was the one who went down on girls in the original and had this dialogue, and then Magnus was the virgin seeking wisdom from Isak, and here apparently Luca is already banging girls? Or he’s pretending to.
Martino sees Niccolò for the first time! Niccolò is adorable. He’s got the Even denim jacket and a nice smile. Sana and Silvia are shown going up to him while he’s talking to another dude.
Luca is like, I watched a 20-minute porn tutorial of how to eat a girl out. No offense bro, but I doubt you were in a very studious mindset during that. Or maybe he was! Maybe he made flashcards.
Martino gets a text from his dad about having dinner “with us” and I’m guessing that his dad has a new girlfriend or something, because it’s kinda weird to text your kid “have dinner with us?” about both his parents when his dad left his mom.
Silvia and Sana come up, Elia brings up the girl with no clitoris to them (why was that the first thing out of your mouth, dude), and Silvia mentions that she and Sana are now in charge of the radio. So this is our kosegruppa! I wonder if the radio itself will have more plot relevance for the season.
The guys are conveniently too busy to help on Thursday! But Sana thinks they’ll be helping soon enough.
For a moment I thought Luca was frightened by Silvia and saw that as a point toward Luca/Silvia happening, since it would be in line with Magnus’ sado-Vilde dreams, but then I was like, oh right, he probably means Sana, lol. (Silvia is way less intimidating than Vilde. Silvia is cheerful, Vilde was sugar layered over a core of menace when she pitched kosegruppa to the guys.)
Martino checks out Niccolò again, because who wouldn’t, and Niccolò is talking to the other guy … maybe Niccolò is flirting with that guy?
The boys suggest smoking a joint but Martino didn’t get the weed back yet, so the boys are bummed, but Gio keeps his disappointment restrained to a few jovial throttles of Martino’s neck. Martino dies inside and tries not to develop a choking kink.
Niccolò did not look at Martino in this clip, there’s no evidence he saw him in this scene, and he was in fact preoccupied with conversation with another dude. So ... has Niccolo seen Martino yet? In an “I saw you the first day of school” way? Because with that knowledge in mind, in the original we could look back at Even’s first appearance in the cafeteria and see that he had obviously grabbed a seat with a good view of Isak and was sitting there alone, possibly sketching him. I guess you could say that Niccolò was standing there to get Martino’s attention, maybe even trying to make him jealous by talking to another guy, but that seems .... really convoluted. If they do include the “I saw you the first day of school” line, they should have had Niccolò look at Martino for even a brief moment. It didn’t even need to be eye contact! Like you could show Niccolò looking toward Martino when he’s out of focus, as a background event, a little Easter egg for the eagle-eyed viewer.
This is one of those original clip comparisons, so hold on to your butts. In the original clip, the way the scene is shot and acted combines multiple details to demonstrate Isak’s alienation from the other boys. Tarjei’s acting shows that he is disconnected from this conversation - he’s picking at his sandwich, checking his phone, he’s not really engaged with the cat tongue/clitoris talk. He has a few mild smiles but his facial expressions and body language show he’s checked out. He doesn't participate in that conversation at all, actually, other than a look or two. There’s no dialogue from him. And the camera contributes to this impression that he’s withdrawn: it’s often just on Isak with the conversation coming from off screen, rather than showing him in the shots with the guys. It shows him alone instead of showing him connected to the group. When it does show him with the group, he’s not reacting to them much. So when he hears a boy's laugh, it seems plausible that it would get attention as the boys’ conversation is not holding his interest.
With this clip, Martino might make a comment like "Oh no, don't tell us your dirty story" but he is otherwise very engaged in this conversation. He leans into it, he's listening, his face makes him seem eager. He's frequently shown in the shot with the other guys, part of the group rather than isolated. Gio repeatedly looks back at him and shares looks with him so there’s something reciprocal happening. Martino speaks to Luca and he high fives him. He's just a definite participant in this conversation, so there isn't much of a feel of alienation here. I mean, we know he's gay, and maybe we can assume that his participation in this conversation is forced or half-hearted, but that's not coming through in how it's portrayed. And I like Federico, I think he's one of the better actors on the show, but I also think he's playing it too comfortably, though I blame Bessegatto more for that since his direction is what guides the performance. It seems like Martino's a nice guy with some friends, who doesn't seem too detached this conversation and who seems totally fine with looking at a cute guy over there. Not much of an internal struggle. Not much of an external struggle either, really.
It felt like there were missed opportunities. For example, when Martino says he doesn’t want Luca’s TMI, and Gio is like, “Yes we do, don’t listen to him,” we don’t even get a reaction shot from Martino to see how that affects him? We could have seen him annoyed, or exasperated, or uninterested in this conversation. We could have seen him drifting and doing something with his body language to indicate he’s not comfortable, and then THAT is when he sees Niccolò, because his mind is already wandering. Not when he’s engaged in this conversation. Or keep in Luca asking Martino about going girls and wanting to know how Martino finds the clitoris, and Martino having to struggle to answer that when the boys are all looking at him.
I mean, again, it makes me wonder what they’re going to do with Martino’s characterization because they’re playing up his struggles with his attraction to Gio, but he does not seem to be struggling as much with the public performance of liking girls. Or even perhaps the internal conflict of liking boys. And that would be fine except it seems like it should be. Martino was the one who introduced the idea of liking Eva back in S1, before Eva had even suggested it herself. He was definitely on the defense then, so what’s going on now?
Also, Isak glanced at Even and Even looked back, which made Isak look away. Julie pointedly did not show Even again in that clip because Isak was clamping down on his attraction and forcing himself not to look. Martino allows himself a second glance. It frames the scene way more comfortably.
Clip 4 - Fede almost had it all
12:12 ...it begins...
Martino sees Fede and Sana, so he approaches them. He calls them “rays of sunshine,” which is cute! Though he’s totally doing it to butter them up so he gets his stash back.
LMAO I love the part where Federica is like, I found a drill, who brings a drill to a party? (Someone you pray to God remains sober.)
He asks if he can come over and Federica chokes on her drink. She’s really cute in this scene. Honestly, she didn’t make a ton of impression on me in S1 compared to other girl Chrises from the remakes, but I enjoyed her here a lot, she’s sweet.
They can “study” together in the living room because Fede’s parents are gone. Oh babe, I think you’ll be disappointed at the amount of actual learnin’ that would take place were such a study session to take place.
Sana sits there texting Martino that she has his weed while he’s right there next to her. I guess Fede was just really excited by the prospect of having Martino in her house, but did she really not notice that Sana was texting and Martino just so happened to receive a text at the same time?
Sana saying that it’s “a friend of her brother’s” who has Martino’s “necklace.” Is that an actual nod toward Niccolò or just a coincidence? If she means Niccolò, then why is she bringing him up?
Like I know people like this theory, but I don’t think it makes sense that Sana was trying to hook up Isak and Even all along (or Martino and Niccolò if the circumstances are the same), because how does that explain her reactions to being asked about Islam’s view of homosexuality, or to Isak being outed? Of course they could be going for a diferent approach in this remake.
Federica is really adorable freaking out over how she ALMOST had Martino within her grasp. Poor girl, I’m sorry to tell you that your day is never coming. (Lmao, I guess one day a remake could swap out Emma for Isak hooking up with the Chris character? I mean Chris >>>>> Emma, but then I’d feel so bad for her.)
Clip 5 - Here we gooooooooo
So the carrot cake (made by Silvia) suuuuucks. Martino’s disgusted face is pretty good.
The girl squad is trying to Skype with Eleonora. Meanwhile Martino sits there by himself, not having a great time. As a contrast to the girl squad who are laughing and having fun, Martino is on his own because his dumbass friends ditched him.
Sana wants Martino to let them use his Internet connection to continue the Skype call, he’s like lmao, she’s ditching you guys on purpose. Gonna go out on a limb and say that he’s projecting.
Tbh I do think it’s odd that they wrote out Eleonora so much if they didn’t need to. Like I know people think they switched S2 and S3 for dramatic, important reasons, but I get the feeling it was just a matter of actor availability. I could be wrong!
That random curly-haired dude at the meeting is the true star of this clip. He was INTO everything that was happening.
SIlvia says it took forever to make her cake. And it still sucks, apparently. Good thing that the girls never seemed to get her pineapple cake from S1? Was Silvia behind the Jell-O disaster, too?
She doesn’t want another piece, which might be another hint at her ED, but the cake is garbage soooo maybe she just has taste buds and a self-preservation instinct, IDK.
It’s actually intriguing that Silvia seems to be baking cakes for people and yet she monitors her own eating so closely.
Lmao at there being dead noise when Martino sees Niccolò enter the room. Everything fades except this smiley hottie. (For a second I was like “is he flat-lining?”)
Niccolò walked in with some other people, including Covetti. He sits on the table beside Martino. Martino keeps glancing at him but Niccolò will NOT glance at Martino. Again, if they’re going to go with “I saw you the first day of school,” I don’t think they set it up that well. It’s fine if they don’t, but there are really no fun “extras” you get from these scenes with that reveal. In both of his scenes Niccolò has been hanging out with other people, he’s not glancing at Martino. There’s no foreshadowing. You can be like oh, Niccolò positioned himself outside the school for Martino to see, he DELIBERATELY didn’t look at Martino for reasons! But that’s not very enjoyable on a rewatch.
The way Martino begrudgingly greets that Uglydoll or whatever is the best part of the episode.
Covitti notices Martino looking over at Niccolo, by the way.
Okay, WHO IS THAT BLUE-HAIRED GIRL. Like it seems as if she would make a good Sonja, she reminds me a little of Theresa.
Covitti whispers something to Martino but we don’t know what.
“Bad story about Chicco Rodi” Who was that? I vaguely remember the name from S1? Oh wait, was he the guy who got the award for worst attendance? I hope that “tutorial” is foreshadowing for Martino and Niccolò breaking into the school at some point.
Silvia comes across as positively chill compared to Vilde. It must be Osvaldo’s influence.
Why is Covitti even there, since she’s not interested in what Silvia’s saying? To stalk Martino? How did she know he would be there? Emma knew Isak was going to be there because of signups, were there signups for this? (This is nitpicky and I’m sure that’s what they meant, it’s just that they’re skipping over some parts where her motivations become clear.)
Martino: Sorry I have to take this totally real and not at all imaginary call!!!!!
Wow, no finesse, just like our man Isak.
Martino’s fake phone call is pretty funny, like he lets it go on way longer than necessary.
He plops down in a chair in the radio room and then he starts talking to himself and pretending to be on the radio. I really do like the idea of Martino finding his voice through the radio, literally and metaphorically. And actually, when he starts speaking by himself, he sounds pretty good to me! Confident, composed, his voice sounds good, the words come easy. So maybe this is a move from him being passive to speaking up for himself.
That shot of Martino, fractured in the glass, when Niccolò turns on the light is fabulous. Showing how Niccolò’s introduction is going to break apart Martino’s sense of self. And Niccolò‘s image is clear and whole so Martino perhaps sees him as this cool, confident dude who’s got his shit together. So he thinks. (Plus Niccolò literally turns on the light on and all.)
Niccolò says it’s a shame Martino stopped talking, basically, and they laugh about Silvia’s dry-ass cake.
Niccolò has a shitty ancient phone? Would that play into his avoidance of social media because of his manic episode? Since you can’t post to IG/FB/any apps from one of those. Or is he just a hipster who hates technology? Or something else?
Lol, I didn’t have to wait long before the “breaking into the school” prophecy was fulfilled. They end up climbing into a part of the school that’s closed.
Beautiful view on the roof, obviously. I guess for O Helga Natt, Martino is going to run and find Niccolò here, maybe? And then he’ll be in the radio room instead? Will they stare at each other from behind the glass?
Niccolò asks if Martino knows Silvia, and he says no, she’s a friend of a friend. Niccolò asks which one, so he’s probably wondering if Martino is good pals with Sana.
Niccolò notes that Martino doesn’t seem happy to be there, and neither does Niccolò. Taking him at his word, he’s doing this as part of school-work interchange. So I guess he didn’t show up just to meet Martino? Again, I have no problem with that changing that (I loved it with Evak but I’m fine with them not repeating it), I just want them to do a good job of foreshadowing if they do go with that.
We get the conversation about Niccolò being from a different school, but there’s no line (as in the original) where Isak notes with some incredulity that he transferred during his last year, so there isn’t as much of a hint that something happened to Niccolò, provided they are still keeping in his backstory. (I think he’s still in his final year?)
The camera gets very close up in the boys’ faces as they talk about more personal topics, THANK GOD. Like I do think the coldness and distance in other clips is intentional, I just don’t think it works with this show, but at least we can get warmer, closer scenes when necessary.
Covitti (whose first name is Emma, by the way) shows up and literally comes between them. They do the whole thing where Martino “introduces” Niccolò to Emma, except they’re not trying to pretend they’re already partners to avoid her.
“Fares” means horseman or knight in Arabic, so I guess Niccolò is going to be Martino’s knight in shining armor? Or fight for him? That would explain his flipbook in the trailer with stick figure Niccotino on a horse.
Covitti isn’t very awkward as a person. She and Niccolò have a polite, maybe even flirty conversation when filtered through certain jealous ears; it’s Martino who suddenly feels like a third wheel. Covitti is still making eyes at Martino, though. Niccolò says he and Martino will stay back and smoke, which pleases Martino, but she invites herself to smoke with them. It’s awkward but way less so that with Isak, Even, and Emma, in my opinion, maybe because Covitti seems like she’s enjoying herself even if the boys aren’t.
The poppy indie song at the end of the clip feels out of place. Like if they wanted to emphasize the awkwardness, they should have just ended in a stranger song or complete silence to drive home how Martino did not want her there. If they wanted to use this song to emphasize Martino’s crush, show closeups of Martino glancing at Niccolò with the sunlight bouncing off his face without including Covitti in there.
Oh god. Don’t kill me for this. Okay. So we have Niccolò’s introduction in this clip, obviously, and I like him in the sense that he's a friendly guy with an utterly beautiful smile. But I felt like they made him just like ... a really nice, smiley guy, in a way that was one-note. And I’m NOT criticizing the actor’s abilities, because I’ve seen his acting clips from other projects and I think he could do justice to the character. This is more about directorial decisions.
Part of the reason I love Even is because he’s fucking strange. Sure, he’s Isak’s dream boy with his denim jacket and styled hair, and he’s got a smile like the sun, and he just feels cool, but he’s also a bouncy, twitchy weirdo coursing with energy. In his first clip he makes a HELL of an impression and it’s by pulling a bizarre stunt in the bathroom with paper towels and then by making a blowjob joke as one of his first lines to Isak. Now I don’t think every Even of the remakes need to do that, not at all, but Even felt like a really specific character to me, someone who was weird and strongly himself and presented in a way that made us fall for him piece by piece. And one fear I have about the remakes is that they’ll remove some of his weirdness to make him more of a general artsy hipster type who gets along with the Isak. (Or maybe him an artsy hipster asshole, but that’s another story.)
I feel bad because I do actually want to love Niccolò I think the actor is tremendously adorable and enthusiastic about is role, and I think he can make Niccolò into someone specific and memorable. But the way this scene was directed and performed, it felt like Bessegatto told Rocco to be charming by smiling a lot. And I mean, he DOES have a great smile, but Niccolò has the same amused, benign friendliness the whooooole clip, and my gut feeling was that they were trying too hard to make us like him and eliminating anything that might make the character off-putting, which is unfortunately some of what makes the character compelling, especially this early on as he should be something of a mystery both for Martino and the audience.
Where this approach would have worked more for me is if Niccolò was this unstoppable force of sunshine against Martino’s constant grumpy iciness, and he couldn’t help but melt in the face of it. But the thing is, Martino isn’t a constant grump who’s freezing people out. He’s actually pretty friendly to people. So it was like radiant sunshine against slightly less radiant sunshine, and there wasn’t a lot like I felt I could mull over, IDK.
And yes yes I know this is only the first clip. Niccolò has tons of time to make himself into a distinctive, memorable character. I’m aware of that. But I don’t want to lie about my reaction.
General Comments/Social Media:
Continuing with Martino’s crush on Giovanni makes sense considering only a few months have passed. Though it should be said that I never thought Isak getting over Jonas from S1 to S3 without any elaboration was like .. a flaw of the show? It depends on how deep you think Isak’s feelings were. Personally I never saw him as in love with Jonas, I saw it as an intense crush, compounded by Isak’s bad home life so that Jonas, his best friend who was always there for him, was someone who really made his life better at the time, and whose attention he craved.
There was almost a year between the end of S1 and the start of S3, and during that time, Isak had seen Jonas go from Eva to other girls, so I’m sure it sunk in that Jonas wasn’t suddenly going to go for him just because Eva was out of the picture. And Isak had moved out of his parents’ home so there was less of an immediately chaotic situation where he was more dependent on Jonas for support. I mean he’s clearly not in a great place at the start of S3, but he was able to get some independence and distance from his parents. I think his life was more stable on a day-to-day basis. So it’s not hard to see how Isak’s crush would have faded with those factors in mind. Martino, on the other hand, has had less time to get over Giovanni, Giovanni perhaps has not moved on to other girls since he’s still trying to get with Eva, and Martino is still probably depending on him for more emotional support since he has to deal with a more directly stressful environment at home.
In the texts, Giovanni refers to Sana as “Sana Escobar” in reference to her taking the weed. Pablo Escobar is obviously extremely well-known on his own, but I do think it’s a nod to all the Narcos/Escobar mentions in Isak’s season. Or at least they took inspiration there.
Elia is apparently one hell of a dumbass according to an essay he wrote that showed up on IG.
I wonder if they’re going to swap out the Grindr clip with Eskild for the first meeting with Filippo. I really do wonder how that relationship will come across, because I know people are excited about seeing them meet (and I am too) but the thing is, a big part of what made Isak and Eskild’s relationship in S3 meaningful was that they had months of trust to be established between them. Eskild saw Isak repressing his sexuality for months, and when Isak finally came out to him, there was pride in seeing this kid’s long journey to acceptance. We also got plenty of little scenes between them so the dynamic wasn’t just a big dramatic thing, we saw the casual side of their relationship. So I’m not sure how they can replicate that with a relationship that cannot help but have less buildup.
Niccolò is a pianist and there’s a video of him playing on YouTube! I’m really glad they incorporated the actor’s talents into the character and gave him his own artistic skill to make him a little different from Even. I assume that Martino will find the piano video and watch that endlessly. And it’ll be fun if Martino is all convinced Niccolò is a serious classical music snob but then Niccolò is like, “YES, this is my JAM” over a cheesy pop song.
One big problem I have is that it feels like a lot of potential for conflict or tension (both internal and external) is being minimized across various relationships, in multiple situations. It just feels safer for Martino despite him still going through some major problems that Isak was not at this point, and so it really shouldn’t. And that makes it harder to get involved in his POV or to immerse ourselves in his struggles. For example:
The boy squad isn't angry or annoyed with Martino for losing the weed, they're just kind of like lol, get it back.
Sana and Martino don't clash with as much tension, and does Sana even explain why she’s holding onto Martino’s weed instead of giving it back? Sana B. was disgusted that Isak left the weed in Eva’s house where Eva could get in trouble if it was found; Sana A. is just doing it to be sassy, so far? Knowing that she found Isak’s actions distasteful upped the animosity of the Sana-Isak relationship, whereas Sana-Martino doesn’t have that element. I mean it’s certainly a reasonable inference that Sana is mad at him for potentially getting Fede in trouble, but it’s not a clear motivation. Martino doesn’t know why she’s randomly holding on to his weed. Does he think she’s doing it because she’s Muslim and disapproves? Because she wants it for herself? Just to torment him?
Italian Emma comes across way more of a chill, tolerable girl than Nowegian Emma and less of a persistent nuisance causing him stress just by existing.
Martino is less alienated and uncomfortable and more like a chill dude who likes to look at guys. The boys talking about going down on girls doesn’t make him uninterested and detached from the situation, he just mildly protests about TMI but continues to engage. He can look at Niccolò without having to make himself look away. He puts up less of a show to perform heterosexuality than Isak.
Martino doesn’t want to get involved in the radio show, except when he’s left alone he starts talking into a mic and pretending he’s on the radio, suggesting that it is of interest to him even if he’s not into Silvia’s leadership or whatever (as opposed to Isak who just didn’t want to deal with kosegruppa).
Even the Martino and Niccolò meeting had them bantering right away, practically as soon as they spoke, rather than encountering any moments of uncertainty or confusion, no time where they had to find their groove. And people are going to be like “They got along right away when Isak and Even didn’t!” when the reason Isak and Even were a little awkward at first was not because they clashed but because they were attracted to each other. Isak was shy about talking to a cute boy and taken aback by Even’s approach; Even was overwhelmed about talking to the boy he’d liked for weeks. It’s also a mark of how genuine Isak’s interest was: with Emma he was all slick and insincere, with Even he was real and tongue-tied. I mean, think about episode 2 and what a great moment it is when Isak runs into Even on the tram and they fumble for words at first. It’s so good! It’s human and real. It’s vulnerable, especially from Isak’s POV since we know how hard he has been pining over the last week, but also from Even’s POV especially when you know he’s liked Isak for a long time. The thing with Martino and Niccolò is that they settle into conversation so instantly, without any bumps, that I don’t think I would buy a moment like that happening. It’s not like I expect them to immediately become best friends but it would feel strange after this scene. And personally, it’s not like this relationship needs to develop the same as Isak/Even, but it’s good to leave some room for build-up from a narrative perspective. That’s why it’s so satisfying when Isak goes from barely being able to speak to Even to getting so comfortable with him that he can joke around and laugh with him. Like, let Martino say the wrong thing, or not know what to say, or make a mistake, so he can earn that more comfortable place with Niccolò, or so we can savor the moments that show him as vulnerable. (I mean, did people not enjoy Isak and Even being shy around each other? Because the awkwardness, the long silent pauses, the fumbling for what to say ... I ate that shit up. I loved it.)
Now on their own, it’s not wrong for any of these plot threads or scenes to go more smoothly. But do you see how cumulatively, they don’t contribute that much to creating a stressful internal and external climate for Martino? He’s just so much milder about everything, and the people around him are milder to him, and from a dramatic perspective it’s not as engaging.
I mean fandom does this thing where it’s like “These characters get along better! Things are Softer! Cinnamon rolls!! It’s an improvement!!!” but that’s not ... actually great from a narrative standpoint. We’re at the beginning of Martino’s story and it makes more sense to emphasize what a shit place he’s in so we can build him up over the season.
The conflict that IS there, and felt like it had more of a presence on screen when it was addressed, is Martino still having feelings for Giovanni and Martino’s issues with his parents. I’m not sure how much farther they’ll take Martino’s crush on Gio, since now Niccolò is in the picture, but they’ll likely have Martino keeping secrets from Giovanni that are Eva-related. And we have Martino living with his mother and dealing with her problems, but I felt like that should have been more emphasized in this premiere episode and not just one clip, since it’s really fucking huge. It’s not a problem he can kind of repress like Isak because Isak can just ignore his mom’s texts. Martino has to go home and deal with it every day. (Like I would have put the radio/weed stuff for episode 1 and kick off with Martino’s parental problems and meeting Filippo, since that should set sooo much of the stage for this season, emotionally.)
I’ve also seen the idea that this season will focus more on Martino dealing with external homophobia than internalized homophobia, and that’s certainly a good idea, but then they really should have hit the ground running with that theme. Show the boy squad making casually homophobic comments, show him fearing what his mom will say. Show some random assholes making gay jokes about Filippo at the party and Martino overhears.
I think they’re doing the meeting with Filippo in episode 2, so hopefully we get more meat to Martino’s conflicts.
I sound like I’m being negative, probably, but I’m aware this is only episode 1, and there’s plenty more to come. There are things that I do like, such as Filippo being Eleonora’s brother and the introduction of the radio. I think those could be really cool for the season. And I’m still intrigued by everything else, because this is S3 and of course I’m wondering how they’ll adapt it!
Please feel free to correct me if I missed or misinterpreted anything!
If you got this far, thank you for reading! Especially if you disagreed with me, lol.
