Wrestling
I live between
The rolling and the bashing
And the rocking and the crashing.
In the short bursts when the wind and the waves catch their breath.
A fleeting glimpse of the end…
Before the waters awaken again. Roar again.
Teach me to be still again.

Silver Poetry, Spring Fever, 2020, 555g. Forged Fine Silver 999. Just finished this piece for a special artist. Small but mighty. I love working with the contrast between polish and unpolished extremely white surfaces. Happy weekend everyone! #silverpoetry #finesilver #999 #springfever #silversculpture #hammering #polishing https://www.instagram.com/p/CGIDHF9noi3/?igshid=li53p4enxas4

Silver
This world is cruel and cold
I am worthy... Or so I was told
I am Silver... But she's Gold
This world is tiresome and tough
I am Silver... For you - never enough
She is Gold... She gets all your love
This world is a meander of madness
Where those who try their hardest
Are forced to suffer in silent sadness
Secrets are hidden and lies are sold
Very few know and very few are told
Silver is far more precious than Gold

Just remembered the time me and a few people I know made a “friendship book” for a friend of ours filled with art and poems and cards and stuff as a way of saying “we love you, pls don’t kys”
And I wrote a two-stanza poem about healing from trauma and seeking a brighter future
And then she sort of distanced herself from us after a few months and started obsessing over gender identity and relationships (which was hurting her and causing her to dissociate a ton) and getting into some really weird stuff, so I wrote a second part to that poem and it was about self-destructive habits and I submitted it to my school’s literary magazine.
Anyway, y’all are the first to see the whole poem together as intended. The first two stanzas were my portion of the friendship book (there’s been some stylistic editing), the last two were in my high school’s literary magazine. “But” is in brackets because it did not appear in the publication.
Broken Things and Breaking Wings
By Anna Silva Silvestre
Broken wings now graze the sky
As fallen feathers whisper woes
Fade to nothing, asking why
With answers only Heaven knows
So one more flap and one more leap
As one more feather fall in vain
All the while, the darkness creeps
And leaves another dismal stain
But as the tides approach the shore,
Waxing with the rising moon,
A graceful flap sees new wings soar
For light and time, they heal all wounds
Black marks now bathed in warmest light
Those questions, feathers now rescind
With broken wings reaching new heights,
The sky sings reason in its winds
[But] feathered wings of empty strength
Will never take you very far
For wings of that fragile sort of length
Are apt to suffocate in tar
The skies, they cry for broken wings
That long to join eternal song,
But open not to tinfoil kings
Who toast with poison sweet and strong
The many faces in their glint
Are dimming shards of squandered days
Spent leaping for the night sky's mint,
While dripping of that pitch-black glaze
Starlight drowning in those pools,
Our avian is rendered blind
By tinfoil shine and plastic jewels
To which her focus is confined

Home
Sunshine rising in my heart,
Chains dissolved and wiped away
Cracking layers peel apart,
Unveiling long-awaited day
Singing skies spread colors out
To paint the morning o’er the night
Thick pigment covers every doubt
And turns my eyes back to the light

Burnout
Crumpled tear-stained pages
Fall gently from the grasp
Of limp fingers in surrender
To apathy
Mediocrity
They say
She is the 99th percentile
An A-minus grade
A silver medal walking
Across life's stage
To claim her place in the shadows of
The greats
They say
She will go far
She knows Her value is nothing
More than the numbers etched in
Her eyes
No longer a daughter or
A friend
Merely the sum of
What she can
Achieve
And never enough
Crumpled tear-stained pages are
Her bandages
Her price tag
She carries on
Not human
Just
A silver medal walking

Friendship Bracelet
Silver beauty is a collar
Memories charge golden dollar
Pearly thoughts now suffocate
And weigh on souls with futile freight
Blind eyes guide hands through thorny gorge
And cast their hearts to hevel's forge
Shaping links for iron chains
And draining water from their veins
Shackles bind them to their debt,
Chaining feet to where we met

O, Bleeding Heart
It is one thing for a heart to break To turn stiff, go brittle, and shatter To become a pile of small, unfeeling daggers
It is quite another for it to tear
To watch the fibres stretch and twist, See them hang on for dear life Only to snap One By One
To dig into its outer crust and Pull the pieces apart As though it were bread; To feel the two halves bend and fold So they can never fit together again
To withstand the echoing sound of it, Like a long strip of paper, Being shredded in two Seemingly without end
… I suppose it's for the best
A beating heart, however torn, Is better than a broken one And though one piece only knows sorrow, Another only knows joy
But when the time comes To tear once more At what remains of my tired heart
I wish it had been glass
Because at least Broken hearts Never bleed

Prodigal
beloved child silver crown and white robes adorned daily encouraged, uplifted, long reborn but the crown is tinfoil and easily torn and the robes will be stained by the eve she carries on with pretty words and playful dance so they never see her chains
queen of fools she turns the key again and hears the metal clang as her shackles hit the floor she forgets the pain too quickly in fascination, puts them on and thinks herself nobility until she trips on them again
caged lion ferocious and strong or so she's told but who can see the veil around her soul? she steps back into it again and again and wonders why she feels so tame
ungrateful sheep always in sight of the flock but somehow always astray the shepherd picks her up brings her back she wants to stay but she will shift her gaze and run away again
beloved child when will you learn that the gift you've been given cannot be earned by tinfoil and bleach you squander it so often and neglect so easily that it was always meant to make you
wise ferocious repentant redeemed devoted shameless renewed
FREE.

Awake
Eyes wide open, bright and new
And blind to all behind me
Faced away from every fear
And doubt that used to bind me
The turning is stained with ink,
It’s time for something blank
And stumbling forward, I find me feet
With open eyes to thank
