"and they feared the Eldar and the light of their eyes" is SO evocative by implication alone and i love love love when we're reminded the elves are eldritch beings. humans show up and they're met with a tall glowing willowy preternaturally strong people who read minds and have incomprehensibly magical burning light either smoldering in or emanating from their eyeballs. but in a poetic way that captivates them. mostly.

Terminei agora o Contos dos filhos de Hurin, segundo conto do livro Contos Inacabados, do Tolkien. Assim, com essa história, o título do livro fez muito sentido, por quê (?) realmente é tudo mal acabado. Falta explicar umas coisas importantes, não conta o que aconteceu com fulano, pula de uma ponta para outra, qualquer coisa q precisa de mais informações aparece nas notas "Para mais detalhes, leia O silmarilliom, página não sei qual". Sério.

Sobre a história, 90% do tempo vc passa raiva, especialmente do Turin, q é o personagem principal. Nos outros 10% vc fica pensando "Gente, que q tá acontecendo, meu Deus?".

Apesar desses casos, achei um conto muito bom, mostra bastante a parte mais política da guerra da terra média na primeira era. Eu também sinto muita raiva do Turin em algumas partes, ele faz muita coisa burra, que podia ser melhor pensada, e dá merda, claro. Mas eu tbm acho q isso ajuda muito na história. Porque em outros livros, as pessoas são muito boas e valorosas simplesmente porque sim. Sai do c* a boa pessoa q eles são. Nessa história, o Turin é uma personagem real, dá para se imaginar nos casos q ele se mete, dá para pensar nele como alguém de verdade. Sinto falta disso em outras histórias do Tolkien.

Resumo, é uma história legal, recomendo. Vc vai passar raiva, mas faz parte.

Fans kept blaming amazon for not hire peter and lied to him. But that's because the relationship between peter and tolkien estate.

the hobbit movies were great because peter jackson was like "i want to adapt the hobbit into a movie" and warner brothers was like "no you're gonna make it a trilogy for no reason and make us a billion dollars" and richard armitage was like "the studio has tricked me, classically trained richard armitage, into being here so i'm going to portray a closeted homosexual" and martin freeman was like "i'm in a new zealand commercial!!"

Let’s treat the silm as tales that were written by the elves for the elves. It’s biased as fuck. What actually happened?

Right now I’m thinking about what happened in Valinor. The silm blames Melkor for everything, and I don’t think that sounds realistic. You know the bit Your Fault from Into The Woods?

Honestly, I think Melkor was just vibing minding his own business. A lot of it started with rumors that spread like wildfire. Why do they think that Melkor started them? I think what happened is that Melkor said that the elves weren’t supposed to be invited to Valinor and that there will be the coming of men (which is all 100% true), and others twisted that into Manwe is holding the Elves captive so Men can have Middle Earth. And Melkor had nothing to do with the Feanor vs Fingolfin squabble.

I also think that Melkor didn’t really care that much about the Silmarils. Melkor knew that the sun and moon must exist for the coming of men, and so that means there can’t be the trees. Which means there can’t be a way to restore the trees, hence why he had to take them. And then he put them in a crown as a fuck you.
