If there is something that sounds like Nírnaeth, this is it. I don't even want to elaborate.
But if you want to read it anyway, the culmination in the 6th minute is when Fingon dies. And what is afterwards is just tears.

Animatic of the English version of Luthien's Lullaby from the Lay of Leithian musical!
For now, it shall remain unfinished due to the program I was using constantly crashing and just... making it extremely stressful to continue work on it. I hope you are all able to more or less understand my sketches and enjoy it as it is. I had a lot of fun working on it so maybe someday, with a better animation program, I can try and finish it.
Thanks again to @sewn-with-lilies-fair for letting me use her commission of this song for my animatic.

Makalauraure: (smiling brightly) You know, Grandmother, sometimes I think happiness is like your fabric. It is made up of many little moments, like threads in a pattern.
Mirielle: (with tenderness): You are right, my dear. Happiness is the art of seeing beauty in every day, in every song, in every look.
Macalauré: (inspired): When I sing, I feel that happiness. It's as if it flows through me and gives the light to others.
Mirielle: (proudly) That is happiness, Macalauré, to give of yourself to the world, knowing that you are making it a little brighter. You have found your way to joy, and that is priceless.
Macalauré: (with quiet joy) And you, Grandma? What makes you happy?
Mirielle: (gently touching his hand) My happiness is you, my children and grandchildren. To see you grow, create, love…. That is my greatest happiness.
They sit side by side, hugging, and each feels that happiness is something simple, yet so precious.

For me the tone and pace and script and characters and everything about season 1 was perfect. I hope the directors don't listen to the dissenters because even if they changed everything about the show, these people would still weirdly find joy in hating it (what a waste of time lol)
So basically I'm just hoping for what we already got, high beautiful production quality in every aspect, fanatastic haunting music and tons of amazing dialogue and scenes with my faves. I think the emotional story beats and action stuff was fantastically balanced too.
I've only read very little of The Silmarilion (mainly Beren and Luthien) so I'm just happy with what I have seen so far and do not want the tone or feel of the show to change. Season 1 was a beautiful wonderful surprise and escape and I felt like I was back in Middle Earth for the first time in years (because the Hobbit movies were quite poor imo)
I desperately miss this show and all the characters I love and hope we get tons of my chaos trio Elrond Durin and Disa!

S2 ep4 “Eldest”- my thoughts
now we know that Eregion is some 150 leaugues from Lindon- with 1 British league being 4,83km that makes 724,5km… so, definitley two weeks of travel by foot. Exelent! (or not)
was all this really fimed on the British isles? Wow, the nature is stuning!
**sigh** the blond Elf from the trailers traveling with Galadriel and Elrond is not Caleborn. On the other hand, I really like those Elves, they all have character
can I just say the traveling outfits for the company looks stuning (as is Elrond´s hair)
Galadriel wearing her hair Silmarilion style!
Tom Bombadil! And he is singing his song!!!!!!
awwww, Merimac and Poppy looking at each other 🥰
“Was that three rules or four?””I wasnt really paying attention.” 🤣
We got Stoors!!! and they live in holes in the ground!!!!! (no, seriously, I love their look and how it all later mixes in the Shire)
Stranger finally gets a bath
GOLDBERRY is already here?! omg!!!!!
sorry, but everything about Tom is perfectly whimsical
Wait… the lamb is called Iarwain… isn´t that the elvish name for Tom? Doesn´t it mean something like “without father”? (my Catholic mind is reeling!)
having recently read “Unfinished Tales” where its sayd that Gandalf was afraid to go to M.E. to face Sauron…
ok, the Barrow-wights sequence was pretty intense
Estrid and Isildur are adorable <333
am glad Arondir finds out something was sus about her very quickly
the swamp worm was disgusting
omg, the tale of some Stoors having long ago left to find a greener home and they became the wandering Harfoots? Nori saying “We are still homeless”? I got emotional at that 🥲
Galadriel afraid of “falling”, Elron dfeeling responsible for Calabrimbor…
ENTS!!!!!
the scene with the Ents, the dialogue, the music… I´m sobbing 😭
Arondir and Theo re-uniting <3
wait, Estrid does have a fiance? no!!!!!!!
Theo as Lord of Pelangir- cool, just stay away from elvish rings and everything will be fine
Galadriel giving Elrond her Ring to earn his trust + not trusting herself with it 😭
Galadriel fighting orcs was pretty badass
So, I guess the Barbossa-Elisabeth-style diner scene between Adar and Galadriel comes next episode

I'm realizing that I haven't actually had a new hyperfixation since about 2020 up until now. I've been really into stuff yes, but the last hyperfixation I had was the silmarilion and that died down late 2021. I'm still interested in it, but it's not at "consumes my very soul for an indeterminate period of time".
I'm realizing this now because I have been very abruptly reminded what an actual hyperfixation feels like. And now I'm suffering.
Pro tip guys, if you're gonna get into musicals, maybe try to not have it be specifically your college's run of the off-broadway version of a box office failure.
#hopeful rambling#there are like 15 people in the 'fandom'. by which i mean. it's the crew discord and we're all still crazy about the show.#there are more people interested in the musical but it's not *my* version which is clearly superior in every way /j#it got a movie too but the movie ruins the main plot#there are 25 fanfics (i wrote one) for it on ao3 and 60 for the movie.#there are smaller fandoms but dang

Silmarilion What Ifs, (1)
What if Melkor's voice was like Shawn Mendes? Full of voice cracks and and light screams... The Valar had deeper voices and he was just "high pitching" in the corner.

If LotR existed in the universe of Little Women
- Jo would be fascinated by Middle Earth and would read any Tolkien she could get her hands on.
- Meg read some because Jo insisted and liked it... fine. Her favorite story is of course Beren and Luthien.
- Beth's favorite character is Frodo, even if she only read LotR once (and only because Jo assured her it had a happy ending). She reads The Hobbit every year, though she has to make an effort to read through the scary and sad parts when she's younger.
-She also likes Gandalf because he reminds her of Mr. Laurence.
- Amy is mostly fascinated by the landscapes of Middle Earth. She spent hours upon hours imagining and drawing and re drawing Lothlorien, Rivendell, and Minas Tirith. She would also sometimes draw this or that character by request. Laurie is the only person to ever see her imagining of Eowyn and Faramir's home in Ithilien.
- Jo tried, unsuccessfully, to adapt bits from LotR as theater plays. That didn't prevent her from making her sisters re enact passages from the book.
- Laurie always admired and identified with Aragorn as a child. Only after he matured he accepted being Pippin at heart.
- Beth tried to compose music for all the poems in LotR and The Hobbit. Her favorite one was the melody she composed for Blunt the Knives, but everybody else in the family agrees that her The Road Goes Ever On and On is her best, somehow both cheerful and melancholy at the same time.
- One of the reasons why Jo fell in love with Fritz is because he had read the Silmarilion, And could discuss the whole lore for hours on end.
- Amy's favorite character was lady Galadriel, though she was fascinated by Eowyn and particularly her ending. She would never tell, of course, because it was Jo's favorite character, but it also took the latter years to understand what her sister had understood earlier about the warrior becoming a healer.
- Both Amy and Jo were firmly on team Galadriel, while Meg was team Arwen. When asked, Beth would say that she imagined Legolas' mom to be very pretty too.

Talking Books With @buecherworm!
[What is this and how can I participate?]
Hi again!
I’ve exhausted the posibilities Wordreference offered and I don’t trust Google Translate, so we’re back to English for now. You are all more than welcome to send me greetings in your language so I can include them :)
Today we meet our first male booklr (I thought they were a myth, just like unicorns!) to talk about the feeling of home, music, and underrated books.
Important note: I haven’t changed or edited any of the answers. I’ve only formatted the book titles so they were clearer, but nothing else. Because I’m incapable of shutting up, my comments are between brackets and in italics, so you can distinguish them clearly.
-------------------------------------------------------------
[Image description: a square titled “Know the blogger”. Name & pronouns: Dominik, he/him; country: Switzerland; three adjectives to describe him: attentive, relaxed & focused /end]
1. What is a book that reminds you of "home"?
The book that reminds me most of home is The Lord of the Rings. It was the first proper book i read growing up, my father used to read out loud for me. I just have a lot of beautiful memories of sitting in our living room on a rainy day and reading it. And nowadays whenever i reread it, it is so familiar, like coming home after having been gone for a long time.
[I have to agree on this one! Not the books (even though we have the complete trilogy, The Hobbit and The Silmarilion at home), but both my parents love the films so we’ve marathoned them together lots of times. When we want a film night and we can’t think of anything, LOTR always comes up!]
2. Last good, I'm-so-glad-I-finally-read-this, book?
Howl's Moving Castle. I had seen the ghibli movie when I was a kid, but I never knew there was a book. Then a few years back a friend lent me their copy, but I never got down to it. Now in lockdown I had some time left over, so I read it. And it is so good. I love the writing style and the characters are to die for. Also, I could finally return the book to my friend:)
[Returning books to friends it’s important, it makes for lasting friendships ;)]
3. Do you read with or without music?
It depends, when I read in german I generally listen to music on the side. When I read in english I don't listen to music, because the lyrics make me lose focus, if they are in the same language, as what I am reading.
4. An underrated book you wish everyone had read?
To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. It's about time-travel and romance and detective stories and it's just such a delightful read. And no one knows about it.
5. Thoughts on films-turned-books (as in, novelization of films)?
To be honest, I don't really read novelizations. But I don't have anything against them on principal. I do read a great deal of fanficiton though, which is not the same, but sometimes pretty similar. So, I would probably enjoy a good novelization, if I were to stumble upon it.
Free space to say/add/recommend anything!
For my free space: I would recommend for everyone to read at least one of David Mitchell's books. They're awesome.
You can follow him at @buecherworm.
------------------------------------------------
Thank you, Dominik! It was great chatting with you.
Next interview: Wednesday, 28th of October

Maiar of Tulkas the Valiant
Among the Valar, Tulkas is the Hercules type of character. He loves combat, entering battle without any weapons or armor and riding no steed. He entered into Arda later than the other Valar, and his presence helped turn the tide of their early struggles against Melkor, who feared him.
There aren’t any Maiar of Tulkas named or described in detail in The Silmarilion, but there are references in Tolkien’s early works and drafts that can give us an idea of them.
Some of Tolkien’s early writings go into more detail about the Valar, including their dwelling places. Tulkas’ dwelling place is described as having a large courtyard where warriors would engage in combat and feats of strength. It also says that Tulkas’ wife Nessa would bring goblets of wine and drinks to the competitors. This suggests a clear connection to Valhalla of Norse mythology, where the spirits of those who died in combat would feast and practice until Ragnarok.
Tolkien’s earliest works included a pair of Valar named Makar and Meássë. Makar and his sister Meássë were violent warrior Valar who had joined Melkor during the Music of the Ainur. Even though they had initially supported Melkor, when they entered Arda the siblings sided with the Valar, though they often disagreed with the others on major decisions. They had their own hall where warriors practiced and Tulkas himself would occasionally come there to spar with them in order to keep his strength up. He usually won and he didn’t take battle seriously, so Makar and Meássë weren’t fond of him. As Tolkien’s writings progressed and the Valar became less like Greco-Roman deities and more angelic, Makar and Meássë no longer fit the picture and were dropped. But the concept of the Maiar hadn’t quite been developed, and some characters such as Ossë and Uinen who were originally Valar became Maiar. Thus, some the two siblings could perhaps be reimagined as Valar of Tulkas.
The precursor to the concept of the Maiar was the Valarindi, who were the children of the Valar. One member of this group was Telimektar, who was the son of Tulkas and Nessa. He was a young warrior who had a long sword connected to a silver girdle, and his weapons and face shown like silver. He was placed in the sky to keep watch against Melkor and was given stars by Varda to mark his presence, making him the Tolkien version of the constellation Orion. He is also described as having diamonds on his sword sheath that will glow red when he draws it at the last battle. When Tolkien dropped the concept of the Valarindi, Telimektar was removed from the story and the only trace is a version of his name (Telumehtar) being used for one of the kings of Gondor. Orion is instead called Menelmacar and is described as being made by Varda.
Makar, Meássë,and Telimektar are all part of a group of early characters referred to as the “Lost Valar” who didn’t make it into the published version of The Silmarilion.
There is a spot on Tolkien’s early writings that mentions “Fionwë son of Tulcas” but Fionwë was usually referred to as the son of Manwë , and this is thought to have been an error. Fionwë later became the Maia Eonwë.

I was tagged by sweet @risusensei, thank you so much <3 !!!
*favorite comfort food: Anything unhealthy, probably, that contains cheese or chocolate, or peanut butter ? Like a pizza with tons of cheese and slices of bacon and olives, followed by a peanut butter brownie ? Yeah ? And some Cola, please.
*favorite relaxing activity: listening music, watching lives, reading, writing fics, drawing, crocheting, I also plan on resuming making dolls...
*favorite alcohol (or hot drink): alcohol: I almost never drink alcohol, I'm not handling it haha I'm such a lightweight, but I really like the taste of beer, and any sugary wine. For the hot drink: tea, a lot of it, of any kind, everyday.
*favorite calming scent: the smell of wisterias and jasmin, and incence, too. I also like the smell of old books and hot chocolate.
*favorite relaxing or uplifting song: for relaxing songs, songs from Ghibli movies or covers of them, and the song of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Kaze no ne. Also old Dire Straits albums. For the uplifting songs, Gazette's Unfinished, Miyavi's The Others, Day6's Dance Dance, Angra's carry On and forever, always, I walk beside you by Dream Theater.
*favorite book to get lost in: I re-read my fave books (and fics) often, this is my security blanket thing. Stephen King's The Stand and The Dark Tower series are on the top of my list (I love King to infinity and beyond). The Lord of The Rings and The Silmarilion are on this list too, just like The Tales of Alvin Maker series from Orson Scott Card, and of course the whole Game of Thrones series, and Harry Potter, too. Also any Harlan Coben book. I could rant about books for hours and become really annoying, so I'll stop here. (Oh, no, I forgot the mangas:/, and fanfics, too … )
*favorite chill show: chill ? Mmm... I'm not a huge fan of chill shows, sorry. Except Friends maybe ? Otherwise I love The Walking Dead, The Handmaid's Tale and recently I watched a great german series called Dark, probably the most brilliant thing I saw on the past year. Oh, and Sense8, too.
*best advice you’ve ever had: Hu ? Not advices, but I really like two quotes ?
« Be yourself, everybody else is already taken » Oscar Wilde
« A reader lives a thousand lives, before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one. » George R.R. Martin
I’ll tag @cali-in-reverse, @salamechecad, @taka-chan, @b-o-t-t-o-m-l-e-s-s-a-b-y-s-s, @ivyclimbs @ashorterurl (thank you for the compliment about my Reitukis, it warmed my heart hehe ;) ) and of course @pearlchen!

Ranking their singing voices
For a lovable anon. Mirror mirror on the wall, who has the singiest voice of them all? This list is out of the usual order with the least singing voices at the top and the best singers at the end. Most of this goes from headcanons rather than serious lore backup, so... So if you view it differently than I do, I’m not saying it’s wrong! Ft. three songs.
Geya’rah: Run! Cover your ears and run! Forget the children and run!
Lor'themar: Firstly, Lor’themar cannot be bothered to sing anywhere near the key or the rhythm. Or to sing at all. Secondly, if you have been paying attention, on this blog at least the Lord Regent has a serious problem with drinking and alcohol isn’t exactly what you should overdo if you want to pursue an opera singer career.
Spirit of Vol’jin: Perhaps he used to be really good at singing, the Zandali language is melodic after all and there is no way serving the loa doesn’t include singing your voice out. But let’s also remember he got his throat slit on Pandaria and it actually never healed properly.
Taedal: He can barely speak competently, it’s a miracle he can sing. Because I say so. Unless I find a very valid reason to retcon this decision, a screeching buzzard sounds ten times better than Taedal.
Ghost Garrosh: As much as he isn’t like his father, he is more close to the scream part in Hellscream rather than the song part in Warsong. (Although, if this list was ranked by rapping capability, he’d be far more towards the top.)
Thalyssra: The Nightborne overall aren’t something I personally would be willing to listen to for too long. Thalyssra and Occuleth sound better than their generic brethren, but the First Arcanist still sounds like her nose is full, so... we give this a soft no.
Ghost Varin: He is dead as dust and also hoarse most of the time because of all the shouting he does. Maybe if we let his voice rest long anough to recover a bit, it gets better.
Anduin: Thanks the Light he is behind the awkward years of voice transition, but it is still... Not something he’d be off to show off. He isn’t a practising priest, he’s a battle-priest, so it’s okay.
Falstad: His voice is actually quite fine, but once he gets on the brew, which is usually half an hour after he rolls out of the bed, he loses his sense of rhythm and melody whatsoever.
Mekkatorque: That’s how you fix most computers: with a lot of swearwords and singing. Also, ‘Torque is the person who sings when stressed. As in “This is all terrible and we’re gonna diiiii-eeee, lala lala la.”
Thrall: Surprisingly good, given he has absolutely zero practice or knowledge of theory at all.
Moira: She doesn’t sing much, but she sings. It is mostly a church practice, I suppose. She doesn’t have to be really good, though, because in places like Ironforge or Shadowforge (as the Dark Iron city in the Blackrock mountain is actually called) has that kind of acoustic everything sounds ten times better than it is.
Aysa: Sometimes people have hard time telling when she is reciting poetry and when she is singing. Her range is narrow, but within her range she is very good.
Ji: As long as you can prevent him from yodelling for fun... Unfortunately, Ji is more of a troll this way.
Velen: He is a Middle Earth fan and nerd. If you have read Silmarilion (like Velen most likely had, or some Azeroth/Argus version of it at least), you’d know the whole story is one big musical. Following this logic, Velen sings.
Muradin: Maybe it is just me, but Muradin is one of the most classic “high fantasy dwarf” trope we have. And those do sing.
Turalyon: He was a Knight of the Silver Hand, that is a trained Paladin. That means he spent years and years in churches and cathedrals full of singing and chanting priests. He most likely had to join some choir of young novices or something, where singing was more or less literally beaten into him.
Mayla: The Tauren have such beautiful melodic voices, it sounds like they are already singing.
Baine: He is probably as good as Mayla, I just have a thing for deeper voices, that’s all.
Genn: Comes out really surprising, but after the Worgen curse he ended up with a far better hearing, so he had to improve. Not like he sings often. Kings are only allowed to sing in the shower and only when nobody hears them.
Talanji: Up with Vol’jin I said something about singing while in the service of the Loa, so here is a Priest Princess. Also her not-singing voice is something I could listen to all day.
Alleria: I suppose it’s a Windrunner thing, the singing. But she is older, got stuck in the stressing Twisting Nether for aeons from her point of view, and I am pretty sure the Void doesn’t go soft on your throat either. She used to be better.
Gallywix: I like to think that his path to success was composed of insurance fraud, tax evasion, and a couple of top selling Goblin!Broadway musicals which he both composed and sung in. And while a big portion of his mass is fat, there is also a plenty of room for a pair of really big lungs. With all the theatre-like props he’s wearing, he probably wanted to pursue an opera singer career.
Sylvanas: One of the few people we have actually heard singing, probably. In case you haven’t, she’s the person responsible for the WoW cover of the Lament of the Highborne with backup banshees and all of that.
Tyrande: I am pretty sure that to be a good priest of Elune, you have to have better than decent voice do sing chants and psalms and whatnot. (It would be easier to say if we got a more in-depth view on the religions of Azeroth, even the “boring” ones. Oh well, I guess I have to do everything by myself in this house.) And Tyrande is in charge. What I am trying to get at is that she has to have sing beautifully. Probably practices on lullabies for Malfurion.
Jaina: Anyway.

So, at the beginning of the year I made a list of books to read the first half of 2018:

It Devours
La belle sauvage
The Invasion of the Tearling

Starfish
Forest of a thousand lanterns

Now I rise
The Demon King
The Exiled Queen
Interesting Times
The star-touched queen
The Silmarilion
The Broken Kingdoms
The Kingdoms of gods
Le Sang des Nahdas
The Gray wolf throne
The Crimson Crown
the Dinosaur Princess
This Shattered world
His majesty’s dragons
The girl who fell beneath fairyland
I read 28 out of 45 books, which is, uh, not great I guess? I had made my list for the full year and of these, I read 34 out of 85 so if you consider I read them out of order, I’m still almost ten books late... Whoopsie? I’m gonna rework my expectations a bit for the resolutions of the second half of 2018!
