My Stormlight Archive AU DSMP Masterpost under the cut (If you are one of the .00001% of people who can understand this I am kissing you on the mouth):
First, Odium conquers this whole server no-diff because none of these fuckers are honorable enough to stand against him.
On that note, c!Dream is a Bondsmith and Really Really bad at it. He makes early-Oathbringer Dalinar look like a fifth ideal Radiant.
c!Tommy is the other server Bondsmith and is slightly better at the whole unity thing since he can get people to rally behind him, but he is never able to swear an oath after the second ideal because he and c!Dream can't put their differences aside until it's too late.
c!Quackity is a Lightweaver who breaks his oaths and kills his bonded spren because he's unable to admit the hard truths about himself. That cryptic spren that he intially bonded with is c!Slimecicle, rip. He doesn't given his pain to Odium (because he won't admit that he has it) but he does sign away the souls of the rest of the server to preserve his pocket in Las Nevadas, Taravangian-style.
c!Sam is the most fucked up Skybreaker imaginable. Swears himself to Pandora's Vault.
c!Sapnap is a Stoneward, easy. Actually makes good progress swearing his ideals before the apocalypse.
c!Eret broke her Windrunner oath and killed her bonded Honorspren with the Final Control Room, but she manages to redeem herself and bond a new spren, becoming a Willshaper.
c!Ponk is an Edgedancer. Also makes good progress swearing their ideals.
This might be a weird choice, but I think c!Phil and c!Techno would be fourth ideal Skybreakers who swear their oaths to anarchy as the higher power that they serve. They also use lifelight rather than stormlight for their surges and have unknown deals with the Nightwatcher.
c!Niki is a Dustbringer, makes strong progress in her oaths after joining the Syndicate.
c!Ranboo is another Lightweaver. Doesn't make it very far in swearing their oaths.
c!Karl has the mental stability of a Lightweaver but is actually a sworn Truthwatcher. His spren is corrupted by Sja-Anat.
c!Hannah is another Edgedancer, but bonds a corrupted spren.
This is all I got for now, Adonalsium help these people 😭

I'm interested in the one called 'omg is this just captain Marvel 2? because that's a very funny title lol
Hope you're having a nice day!
it's such a silly title, i agree lol
so yk how in captain marvel 2, the three of them get linked and like swap locations? so basically the concept for this is like that, except it's jason getting linked to au versions of himself and they get tossed between universes. initially it was more of a timeline swap of red hood!jason flipping with robin!jason but the more i thought about it, the more i thought, wouldn't it be so fun if like i had three jasons, each from a diff universe, because, hear me out:
Universe 1: red hood!jason, roughly comics canon, post alfred's death but other than that i haven't thought out/may not think out exact time, so like not enemies of the Bats but still yk, things are a lil rocky/fragile/uneasy
Universe 2: robin!jason. kid has no clue what the future holds. i'm not 100% sure, but i'm thinking this will be after the Felipe Garzonas incident but before he finds out about his birth mom's existence, bc i want there to be some fractures present bc...you'll see.
Universe 3: bluejay!jason. he never died as robin, same age as red hood!jason, solid relationship with the Bats, maybe seems like a "happier" universe.
the first swap would shuffle them all forward one + it's a mind swap not a body swap so like physically they'd all look the same on the outside, so it would go red hood in robin!universe, robin in bluejay!universe, bluejay in red hood!universe which would be so fun, bc i think red hood would initially think he's just gone back in time, robin would be thinking he's gone to the future and sees that he does turn out "good", and bluejay would be the only one to know he's in an au and furthermore, that his family is treating him...differently.
this is one of those that i like so much it twists into, 'literally only you are interested in this concept, cue, nobody wants this', BUT i really, really like it so. target audience? me, myself, and i lmao
tysm for the ask babbles, hope you're having a great day!!
#wip tag game#my wips#jason todd#idk what it is about writing fic that is not Strictly Canon Compliant that stresses me out sm#i worry too much in general lbr#excited for this one for sure tho!!#babblingbookends#cue answers

A basic starter project if you want to start growing your own food but have no money & no experience, assuming you like green onions.
Supplies needed: Dead potted plant from free pile/dumpster/friend or family member, used food container, green onion ends.
Steps:
1. Remove lid from container, it's now your plant pot's saucer
2. Either poke holes very carefully and slowly (not ideal) or slice the corners off with scissors (better)
3. Remove soil from the dead plant's pot, put in container. This one was super heavy in perlite (the white stuff, helps with drainage), so I mixed in another pot that had more organic matter (brown stuff, mostly helps retain moisture, sometimes provides nutrients). Water until water comes out the bottom, then let drain in sink until until it's done. Put pot on lid:
4. Stick the green onions in, deep enough that they can stand up on their own, or until the white part is covered:
5. Stick in window, water when dry, and wait:
Why not just stick them in water?
Because they make the water really smelly.
Just change the water often, then it won't stink.
I will forget, and then it will stink. Plus, I prefer growing in soil.
Why do you prefer soil?
Thanks for asking! I started because growing them in water didn't work well for me. But on top of that, if you regrow in water, eventually their growth will peter out. This is because in addition to water and carbon dioxide, plants need other nutrients. These are stored in the bulbs of green onions, but they will be depleted by growth if the plant can't replace them. Potting soil often has leftover nutrients, and if you've got compost you can also mix that in.
Why not just put fertilizer in the water?
Two reasons. First off, that's a great way to grow algea, unless you make sure the water isn't getting light. Secondly, most cheap, widely available fertilizers are meant to be used for plants that are in soil, so they're not complete (they're missing iron and maybe some other things? It's been a while since i looked it up). So eventually, if you use water and normal ferts, the plant will stop growing. If you have access to hydroponic ferts, those would work, but you also have enough money that you're not the target audience for this post.
I don't trust the potting soil from random plants.
Completely understandable, and probably smart too. In that case, you have a couple other options if you want soil for free. First off, you could look for dead vegetable or other edible plants in pots, and know that those will not have been treated with something that makes them inedible to humans. You can also look for free bags of partially used potting soil in your local buy-nothing/free stuff groups/craigslist/nextdoor/mutual aid groups.
What if I have some money for soil?
Then you can look for potting soil, or make your own (plenty of recipes online for this)
Help! There are tiny flies that look like fruit flies!
Those are probably fungus gnats, and there's plenty of ways to get rid of them. My two favorites are watering a bit less and adding half an inch of sand to the top, making your plants an unsuitable habitat, or getting a mosquito dunk and keeping it in your watering can. Mosquito dunks have Bt, a type of bacteria that kills mosquitos, fungus gnats, and other related insects. There are other types of Bt that go after other types of insect, such as cabbage moths. It's considered an organic treatment.
What about other pests?
I've literally never seen them get other pests indoors.
How much light do they need?
As much as you can give them, probably. If you have a window that gets midday sun, use that. Or a grow light. If they don't get enough light, they'll be floppy and pale, still edible, but not as flavorful.
When can I harvest?
When it wouldn't look silly to harvest them. I generally wait until they're at least a foot tall (30cm). I'll post an update when I do.
Why didn't you just use the dead plant's pot, dumbass?
A) it didn't have a saucer to protect the surface underneath, B) this is a concept post, and often plant pots are too wide to fit in window sills, and C) I didn't like the pot.
Won't it just grow into a bulb?
Nope, green onions are actually usually a different type than bulbing onions. Usually. And they're perennial! I've never had one try forming a bulb, but you can just eat them if yours do.
Can I ask you another question?
Yep! I'll add it to the update.

your fake event sounds amazing!! if you don’t mind me asking, could you share more about it?? the cards r super cool im dying to know the context
I DIDNT SEE THIS OMG THIS IS WHAT I MEAN WHHEN I SAY I CANT OPERATE TUMBLR IM VERY VERY SORRY I DIDNT MEAN TO IGNORE THIS ASK!!
ANYWAYS THANK YOU I WOULD LOVE TO!! I can’t say there was TOO much thought out into it so this is gonna be a huge ramble that doesn’t make much sense but I will happily oblige ( ´▽`) For the bloomed cards obviously they don’t have much to do with the story. I just wanted an artist/photographer set between them bc I think it’s a cute idea !!
I’ve wanted a fine ryuseitai event for the longest time bc Yuzuru’s friendship with ryuseitai never leaves my mind,, in jingle bells he says he had fun hanging out with them and he enjoyed the hero show in supernova :D basically I only care about the most niche and silly interactions in this game. the opposite of how it was meant to be enjoyed but it’s the secret to being filled with joyful glee. ANYWAYS I thought a variety show for the starpro idols that has unlimited potential by means of the Tenshouin fund could be fun. Yuzuru obviously doesn’t like a ton of attention and is just there to support Tori and get it done with (I mean. Maybe there’s like some kind of fighting/laser tag round he gets really into but for the most part he still sees himself as the least deserving of attention in fine and doesn’t make any scenes). However, in the starpro trivia section of the show, Midori keeps answering question after question right about yuzuru/fine (bc I feel like he might know that little trivia) which either picks up attention with the fans who question what is going on (if the show is live) or eichi + wataru notice and like to impose mischievous little plans on yuzuru. I think that either way through the powers of being in charge of the direction of the show those two get midoyuzu paired up for a ton of the games (I considered making one of the cards a pictionary game and ended up deciding against it but I still think it’d be silly). When drawing the last unbloomed, I had in mind them getting matched up for a lie detector game where they get to ask each other questions/the audience gets to send in questions. I didn’t think too much about what happened afterwards to be completely honest with you but it’d probably get yuzuru really flustered being 1. The center of attention 2. Target of whatever Midori wants to ask and 3. Having to actually be completely and utterly honest. And he’s just begging him to ask normal easy questions which midori obliges bc he doesn’t like all this attention either but then some crazy audience question comes in and then the rest is up to imagination bc I don’t want to end up mischaracterizing them or looking more delusional than I already have in this public post! but it would definitely end with them revealing/admitting something to each other that brings them closer together :>>
sorry to make you read all that but also the starpro variety show is all i ever want ,, PLUS it could be so much fun outside of my mdyz visions too. Imagine chiakana in teamwork minigames OR TRICKSTAR hokke calls them all idiots but he’s the one that keeps making them lose all the games. Alkaloid in literally anything. I think we should talk about this more
ok this is the first time my fanatical whimsical ass has wrote this much from my brain but I hope you see the vision! Thank you for letting me talk about it more!!!! :D

Okay... I threw m plans for a Mermay picture out of the window. I've been binging "My Time at Portia" for days now. This is just such a relaxing and unagitated game that brings me so much joy with building and fulfilling the commissions for the townspeople.
My builder Cassidy nearly instantly fell in love with the head of Civil Corps (the "police" of the town) and Arlo is just so cute.
So I had to feed my current hyperfixiation with a quick fanart of Cassidy with her husband Arlo (yes, she managed to marry him on the last day of the first year :3)

Okay... so... this was supposed to be my "personal art" piece for March. But migraine... I at least managed to finish it and I am mostly satisfied with the outcome. Since it's not a commission I am not going to fret too much over the parts that didn't turn out quite like I wanted them.
But at least I got myself a Lynn/Bruno fanart while I am still enjoying Season 4 of "Love Island the Game".
This game is truly a guilty pleasure and I am probably 20 years older than the target audience XD but it's silly and fun and I need that in my life right now XD Lynn is the main character in this season and I am playing her in the game.
And I know about the controversies around season 4. But I decided that I can't shut out everything in my life that I enjoy because capitalism is a thing... I have fun - you just don't have to take this season too seriously XD
Lynn and Bruno would never work outside the Villa... but that's a problem for another day XD

Of course... right before I need to get back to work I find my inspiration and the motivation to draw again ;) At least that's a good sign that I am really over Covid (now I only need to get rid of that annoying cough...) But at least I could seize the remaining time and managed to finish something small for myself. A picture of Virgil Tracy - yes, it's that time again that I need Thunderbirds escapism and a self-indulging picture of Virg...
Btw... Virigl has horrible hair and I hate to draw it...
The background is a photo of the sky ... I was too lazy to come up with an actual background...

My #1 post of 2022
It’s the 16th... so we can post this, right? I’ve been waiting since May to finally be allowed to share this XD My contribution to this years TAG Mini Bang ( @tagminibang2022 / @tagminibang ) I got assigned to illustrate one of @womble1′s great fanfics and there was so much to chose from and many brilliant fics! ♥ But that one scene totally brought an instant image to my mind, so I had to illustrate it after I read the little story called “Rest”.
In the sunken seating area, Scott was stretched out across a sofa, head propped up on a cushion, a book in one hand, legs crossed at the ankles.
“That's right little bro,” he [note: Gordon] crouched lower, draping an arm over Alan's shoulder and lowered his voice in his best nature programme voice over impression. “Here we see a very rare sight, for a while it has been thought to be extinct by several scientific communities, it’s a resting Scott Tracy”

Could you rank the covers please?
haiiiiiiii, wakaru 👏 ikimashou
let's start with least favorites and work our way up, how 'bout.
starting with... this.
i could not care less-!!! it's kinda funny. nothing about the pose or colors or anything makes me feel much. i think mitsuba's school mystery outfit is busted lol, he feels like he has a bunch of stuff glued onto him. a bit too busy and silly for me to take seriously. his bones... his, eyeballs and little mirrors. feathers kinda like, bits n pieces stuck in his hair. i know you didn't choose to look like this mitsuba but it doesn't change the fact that i'm not into it... sorry.
it probably doesn't help that every time i'm reading PP i'm like god. get these clowns out of here-!! they're interrupting the DRAMA... feel like i'm asleep for their parts of this arc. so for them to get a cover is like sigh, whatever. it ruins the flow of all the amane focused ones lol... i wish i lived in the world where every PP volume had amane and nene on it. [thinks...] i would even sooner let shijima-san take one cover tho, if it had to be interrupted. just not this. -_-
next up...
i don't like kou. kinda repulsed by his pelvis zone here. big ugly guy huge forearms. i think i look cool in this image and the bg being black / there being a lot of gold present makes it more visually appealing than the previous cover. but only by so much.
i think it's kinda funny i have fangies and crazy swirly eyes. does it have to do with what vol 4 is... about? [pause...] hm... whose to say lol. it's funny, regardless.
this is.... neutral territory. i don't feel much about it. i'd say toilet trio illusts in general are very, snzz, i sleep. they can only be so interesting... it's sorta like seeing 'stock art' of a series, the things that go on t-shirts and cut-outs. Here are the characters. yep... nothing wrong with that, but nothing to be felt, past a point. esp when everyone is just big smiles or something, facing the audience. this doesn't really convey who they are as individuals, or their dynamic, even.
a part of me almost wishes someday there wouldn't be a need for depictions like this. i'd prefer seeing these 3 in a more grounded scene, if anything. [shitty amane voice] anyways.
now here's a few that are like. nothing felt. but i don't hate them. but it's like Lol.... there's genuinely nothing to be said. hearts nene is the cutest one here? let's go with that.
*amused huff* an image like this, i get the impression that i'm not the target demographic (genuine fujoshi...) so it's pretty logical it doesn't make me feel much. not the drawing's fault, really.
also, when akane is all bishie'd out in clock keeper mode, i can't feel anything about that. but he's not as ugly as kou to me. just wearing a funny outfit ig. meanwhile, hanako looks like a crazy whore. to a degree where it's funny? this is my mental image for what it's like when i suck off my brother. in this way, it has value.
the actual composition, colors used etc. is fine. neutral.
i kinda have a funny relationship with vol 1's cover. in 2020, when the anime released, people were posting gifs etc. of the OP (you know what part of the OP.) the only other thing i saw from the series, aside from that gif, was vol 1's cover. organically, my response to seeing these things in concert, was: "uhh, no thanks lol…" dismissing the series as, perhaps, a bit too shota-yaoi-gnarsty for someone like me… i look at too much porn on pixiv also, so i'm sort of... literate. when it comes to... shotacons. and this is the sort of image pings... a certain flavor... makes me go... "hmm… no… i don't need toilet-fuck-prisoner-skank-ghost-shota, thank you..." (not a value judgment. i'm just more of an oneeshota guy. normal heterosexuality swag.)
anyways, it's purely incidental that this was all i had seen. along with tons of your run of the mill "tsukasa tormenting amane" fanarts... it gave me such a particular impression of the series.
that being said, i never found this cover bad looking or anything. in fact, the style was pretty appealing-? (the style doesn't have to be bad for you to go, that's not my genre of porno ww) now that i've actually read it and love the series, i can say that vol 1 almost has this classic stink to it. it's just so effective. it's not wrong to look at this and think: shotacon bait manga. it absolutely is, lol. & i suppose my first instincts still weren't wrong. again, i'm not the target demographic.
now this is. a bit closer to being For Me. i am now within the target demographic. but it also kinda makes me angry 💔... like i'm being bullied, a bit. you know some images are a bit too gormlessly horny... like, even for me. oooh. nene-chan's being fed this cake. mmm, open up... frosting all over us.. her ankles bound, her pussy barely not visible. and this, mysterious inexplicable knife stabbing a mini heart. it's all like. [stoically] Ok...
you hand this to a 13 yo bird though, i think he'd be spellbound. ohhhhh. what is this...? so colorful... and if he opened the volume and saw that little alice in wonderland illust of nene between the twins + nene's teaparty outfit... he'd be like mrghhh.... *sucks up gravy*
same goes for vol 2's cover.
you hand this to teen bird, it's pure catnip. though i prefer it to the last one, due to the more... noncon lean. and ofc, just being hananene...~
the way nene is posed, the rope, the frills of her uniform, her crying. hanako looking like some scary vampire captor, about to whisk her away. flanked by the knife and scissors... ohhh. what's going to happen to her...? ⬅ i'm already checking this out of the library before this thought can fully crystalize.
it's not quite as lush or impressive as some of aida-sensei's other illusts though. i think her earliest art is most charming in the manga panels themselves. illusts like this, the bodies feel a little too evened out, to me. not so strong colors. mind you, still nice looking. and again with nene's pussy so nearly visible. Well thanks.
vol 3 is always like... *smiles weakly* mmmm. aida-sensei... i accept who you are. i do... i know you kinda can't help it, in some ways. but it's a shame this isn't more... IC... on tsuchigomori's end. i think this image skews a lot of the perception of tsuchigomori's rship with amane, which i dislike, because their rship in canon is... amusing. and tsuchigomori is a weak loser. but i understand what people typically want out of teacher/student. i leave the humble fujo be.
that aside, i'm a fan of everything else. dusky colors, moody expressions. tsukasa's hands reaching out and cupping amane's face. yes... lovely. it was a fun era, when alluding to tsukasa was best done through hands reaching out. something from the past, coming to haunt. i like amane's hat being off... the glass triangles used to show memories, the ropes, the tsubaki. we love imagery, guys.
these next few are like, "i love my wife" (ignores other person.)
i like tsukasa here. a girlie that goes, nyarrrr! fun and minxy, ever the delight to see. all the pinks and reds, the rosy color of the 'seal' kanji... hi sweetie. *blows a kiss* good luck doing your job.
i really like nene in this outfit. i suppose it finally makes you go "oh" about how she has pale hair and red eyes / and how this suits the typical miko white/reds. i'm actually glad we got to see it in a cover. she's all decked out... ornate... frills, draping fabric, big bow. flanked by flowrse and bells. fancy girlie.
i'm more aligned to shoujo manga and such, actually, so an image like kinda lights up the same part of my brain. a feeling like, "i know it well"... girls posed like dolls, together. classic.
you know me, idgaf about kou. but this girl is distinctly gorgeous. i love greyyyy as a background, and how she's composed of pallid colors. her tights feel so stark black. and then the soft yellow and orange in the flowers... ooh. she's really incredible. if it was a nene-only cover, this would be probably one of my absolute favorites. for severance, too, the vibes are flawless. dreary, drained.. enervated feeling girl. she's delicate. love love love.
we're entering a notable jump in favoritism. ⬆ all these prior covers had things like, details i was indifferent towards, or entire characters i wished weren't there/found neutral. ⬇ these next ones are closer to, 'i wouldn't change this, i like who is here'
auhhh... hakusumi... we're so lucky to have a cover dedicated to them. one of my favorite volumes, too, in terms of literal events. i like this pose and the contrast of their expressions... sumire's eyes always feel like they're purposefully kinda, intense and creepy. i think hakubo is appropriately passive... below... but pawing up at her. i really love sumire's hand splayed on his chest too~ kya. vivid purbles... touches of greem... quite nice.
I like these all about the same amount. I look cool in them. Which is nice, because this arc is mostly about me.
i'm simple... i enjoy the duality of amane and hanako. i think PP does a good job at playing with this divide in living self / current ghost self, what it means to have been this. what is the authentic self? what does he really feel? it's even more convoluted when you have hanako functionally RP'ing as his past self.
i like how hanako has more of a severity to him, in these side-by-sides. amane is supposed to be the one who is just a normal boy, 'before tragedy', so he's all smiles. but isn't it funny, with how nene sees past amane as miserable and current hanako as cheery, smiley smiley...? he's a complicated guy, isn't he.
i'm a fan of the colors of vol 9. excitable telescope boy. then, the kinda, paint-splotch feeling details at the ends of his legs, fun allusion to the painting-in-progress world. for vol 11's original cover, i like the stark white bg for hanako. his expression... it's one of those expressions that makes me think aida-sensei is a wizard. how is she doing that...? he looks crazy... but it's so subtle. he also kinda feels like he's about to bite his lip? this + the fingers threaded over rope... a lot. his companion amane meanwhile just feels crazy in a different way, as a result.
handsome coolness abound. ty sensei.
hehehe. 20 is just so ffffffffun! tsukasa giving major "the puppet master that cursed your dick" energy. dark eyes and lidded gaze... seeing the ropes threading around his fingertips is just so fun. they're often off-screen, or blooming from within characters, so i like to see them so decidedly coming from tsukasa. he's orchestrating so much, it's so appropriate, isn't it-!? we owe a lot to him.
i was looking forward to sakura finally getting a feature on a cover. her listless expression and limp body works well with this all. contrast with tsukasa seated somewhat to the side, flanking her. it's cute that these are the colors that mean "spring!" in japan. and aida-sensei has put out so many spring-themed illusts featuring pinks and greens this year. so festive.
it all comes to roost then, in this cover. touches of green in tsukasa's spooky corpse fingertips. the pink all around is giving Femininity, as much as it's giving... sickness... feverishness... i like how sakura's uniform and tsukasa's hakama are a similar shade. pleats and frills... yes yes. i suppose this cover is doing more for me, in the "two pretty girls posed together like dolls" department. it's more on the unhinged side. love love.
these two... they make me stunned by aida-sensei's ability to make an image is simply so... beautiful? fills me with such yearning. i wish i could make something half this good, ahaha. i must drink in these images...
they showcase some softer feeling amanes. crazy boys in prev volumes are fun, but they're not really playing off of the right energy, to me. (not at their full potential yet...?) meanwhile, covers like these, i think the execution is perfect. here's the boy... your title boy. i'm forced to understand why my wife finds me to be handsome, ig.
the illust for the pilot release feels so sweet. like aidairo themselves are fond of their initial pitch still. to include aspects of his old design (like, no thick trim on the gakuran) within aida's more modern style is very cool. translucent... ghostie boy. you know him well. all the flowers frame him nicely.
for the far shore/severance situation, it's quite fascinating to see amane like this. amidst all the madness... i think it's a good follow up to the red house also. this... is the guy we're trying to get back to. the paper lantern he's holding is such a simple yet wonderful detail also. idk... he's really a japanese ghost. he really on "the other side"... in a procession, with the other spirits. and i love the abstract bits of buildings and vehicles floating about, representing the far shore. the sunset orange clouds and bright blue sky... sugoi.
this one makes me feel so simple. sometimes, you just have wife emotions. (i have 4 yo tsu as my bg on tumblr & my pc...💞) i love you BAY-BEEE!!! you're so special to me!! kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss.
this to me is almost like, the blessed version of "this reeks of a shotacon" lolll... cuz now we're at an age range/size that i'm like YEAH!! OOUEHH!!! FUN!!!!!!! BOLD! INTERESTING!! SHOW ME MORE!? i love to see TOYS and DOLLIES, yeahhh! a toy piano!! a robot!! lil cars!! bouncy ball!!! rocky horse! YES!! IT'S ALL THE THINGS!!
center stage, we have tsukasa preciously holding his teddybear. the ripped seams and overflowing stuffing... his lil suspenders and shorts. the thick, vibrant red socks! weewoo. i would say it's a perfectly executed piece. straightforward. welcome to the toy room! it's bright and colorful and a little ominous... don't you want to know more about this lil guy-!? don't you just wanna scoop him into your arms. yes, of course you do!! come on in...
this is probably my absolute favorite volume also... it's so concentrated... i just love this arc sf much. 9.9 the volume sleeve illusts + contents page are perfect. this random illust of hanako that the volume opens up with is very sick & twisted, he scares me. but i also love it very much. and then the first pages are tsukasa asking to play. 10/10... love the whole package. this cover is like a ribbon on top of it all.
[scuffs shoe... gets small.] [hides under my hat.]
... 💦 ... .. .. .... ..... 💦💦 ... ... ............... ..
girlfriend. emotions. (these are somehow different than wife emotions.) she's... resplendent... i don't deserve her... idk, it's hard. to talk about this one, gomen, if this comes out awkwardly.
but it's... just. really pretty. after the whole PP, hurts to look at. the biiiig moon in the sky. dreamy lil stars. the red of her eyes... and for nene to be threading both her hands over his, while red rope binds them together... wonderful. i like how the ropes perfectly kiss with 'red string of fate'... also this all gives me OT3 feels. (tsukasa often symbolized by the moon...) overall, does a great job at conveying the climax of this many-volume arc.
it's a lovely image. and the odd angle to amane's face is inspiring for me, also. i wanna be able to properly represent the huuuge eyes and lil muzzles that the characters in JSHK have. they feel like my little ponies... i must learn how to capture this...
[getting even smaller. ragged.] [sighhhhing forlornly, leaning out a window.] it's my favorite cover. but also, it's my favorite inner sleeve illust... so i must include it. hopefully, you'll understand me, as you see them side-by-side.
the cover, though... it's got it all, i guess. intimacy. atmosphere. expressions are loaded. the hand to yashiro's face... her nape visible. the stars, the lights, the summer night vibe, due to tanabta. yashiro decorated in tsubaki, in her beautiful yukata. the big fanciful bow obi. the air feels thick, humid. gorgeous... wouldn't change a thing.
i love all that tanabta encapsulates. ooh. it's the peak of it all... we're star-crossed lovers, aren't we. reaching through streams of time to meet one another. the indulgence of the age gap... nene onee-san... choosing to meet her again, over dreaming of the future. that's how it always works, right...? love always supersedes any vague wishing of a, career, or w/e... flimsy, in comparison. [i use my severe tone and lots of eye contact to convey that this alludes to the choice to die with tsukasa vs grow up and be an astronaut.]
in the chapter itself, we see that hanako vaguely has some... feeling... memory... of nene's forehead kiss. and i think that's conveyed in the cover, too~ it feels like he can't resist a pull. memories... a long-existing crush, incubating...~ how long has this girl been haunting you...
woof, the romance that oozes from it all... it makes me feel so soooo simple. i like that aidairo can be so... earnest? about it all? we're tying key romantic events with our main couple, to THE romantic festival.. yayaya... yes.... thank you...
all this. all this! and knowing the yugi are running around, eating cotton candy, playing with sparklers, late into the night... we really can have it all, can't we?

Not to be salty about the poll results, but what's your target audience whenever you reblog the post, though, like genuinely? Those who already follow you? Because regardless of whether or not folks are actively searching for new artists to commission, reblogs don't show up in site-wide search results, sadly.
Plus, anyone who visits your blog will very likely end up seeing your already-pinned commission post, and thus probably won't need to be consistently reminded that you're open unless stated otherwise.
I find constant reminders genuinely annoying (might actually jump ship due to the increased frequency tbh), and blacklisting won't stop tumblr from showing dashboard [1] notifications, nor does it actually "erase" entire posts. Instead, it just hides their contents behind a slightly-smaller "this post contains filtered tags [#commission reminder tag] [View post]" wall, which isn't a whole lot better.
Please reconsider.
(completely separately, I wish you good luck with getting your surgery funded, whatever ends up happening ^w^)
All of these are very good points! Some artists I follow do weekly commission posts, and I do consider it a sort of 'reminder' that I am taking them. Like an advertisement I guess? I've only gotten three since I started (and those were from Twitter), and I know there are several factors like people just not being interested, not having money, etc. And some of it is...people just not seeing posts I think? I have over 100 followers, and the vast majority of my posts get around 10 notes (which I am thankful for, don't get me wrong!). I don't let the numbers game get to my head, I make art primarily for me, it's just you do like to know people like the stuff you make, you know? That tangent aside, I definitely don't and won't hold any ill-will to people who unfollow. I think that's silly to be mad at!! I unfollow people a lot! So if anyone wants too, they're more than free to. I hardly check the number anyway lmao I didn't know that's how Tumblr itself did blocked tags like that (I use TumblrSaviour still) and while XKit has a post-blocker, that's a lot of work to just use for one thing.
So I definitely will be thinking on it! I might just start doing it once a month on the first, so it won't be too annoying, and I can still get the 'I'm putting myself out there' feeling
Thanks so much for reaching out! Feedback on things is definitely appreciated! And if you want to unfollow still, I wish you well, and I enjoyed having you! (and thanks so much!! :3 I'll be calling doctors tomorrow and I'm nervous and excited!)
#ask#that's the whole reason I put the poll out - for people's opinions!!#honestly I was a little unsure about upping the frequency anyway since it was a near even split but#and apologies for the rambling ahsgfka I just have a lot of thoughts and I try to be concise

@vickdoom while i was formulating a response my brain was like. wow! it really is difficult keeping this compact without torturing myself so! why not make a new post! life is easier now lmao
i agree that the EN vas are fine and the comparisons of “sub is better than dub!!11!!1″ have all but been exhausted but yea! it really can be looked past. also jp akechi and en akechi really are like two different beings entirely and i love them both so i think either way. i would’ve liked jin anyway
The weird talk about murdering a guy actually being good for him, all things considered, WASN'T a mockery, after all, and he is just really really stupid...?
I will admit, you lost me there! Is this about Jin at the final confrontation? Takaya was being quite insane at the end there I will admit and either really uncaring about his own teammate’s life or just straight up stupidly not thinking about the consequences but I would just chock it up to the desperation that comes with last-ditch efforts like his. and also bad writing. i barely remember anything from that part of the game tbh because i was emotional about SEES but true! i agree go off, slay king (doesnt really understand what this is about my bad)
I've tended to think of it as maybe a way of coping with the clash between the neurotic hyper-independence and the desire to actually keep his two friends close by just considering them a extension of himself, but the cultish angle sounds very much probable!!
also that wasn’t the intent of the point i was trying to make with the first person plural of “our chidori” LMFAOO it was a bit hard to keep things in that little comment box so i think my point wasnt explained very well but thats ok!! i mostly agree with the former, not the cultish angle thing!!
anyway on to p3 criticism :D
( i have to preface this that if i disagree it’s not for the sake of disagreeing but rather i just like having internet discourse in a chill way y’know. like i genuinely do like to discover other people’s perspectives on media and consider them! far be it from me to “defend” p3 eventho its my fav rn in fact i’ll probably agree more than otherwise. )
first of all the comparison of eva and p3 is pretty apt LMAO i haven’t watched it myself but from what i gather. both it and p3: 1) have protags that maybe reflect the target demographic in the audience (troubled youth?) 2) timeless classic according to fans. (i agree. a lot of people still talk about both till this day) 3) themes that draw in familiarity? is that the word (biblical or greek, respectively) 4) loved to death by fans and impacted them greatly
i think, the last one, is definitely due to the emotional responses the two evoked in its audience as well as the nostalgia factor. hence, criticism on p3 (idk about eva honestly) is rarely ever talked about, which is why i prompted for your opinion, cause I really do rarely see criticism on it aside from the surface level (like p3p VS fes, ken s.link, minato’s moon s.link, is the answer good etc).
there is a very specific set of circumstances that i got into p3 with that none of the aforementioned really applies to me. no nostalgia aside from the 2000s stuff which p4 also has, so! when you strip it all away i feel like it’s just a game with silly pacing among other flaws.
on to the vagueness of p3′s themes in comparison with its sequels, i do believe it’s due to the fact that the developers left it intentionally individualistic in order to not sound ‘preachy’.
- HASHINO, from this interview (which i’ll be referring to down the line as well).
there really wasn’t an end goal they set in mind, they just wanted to depict as many reactions to death as possible.
One time, I read a magazine article that discussed the various ways in which people wished to meet their end. As you might expect, the answers were just as diverse as the people giving them… but the majority of them did agree on one point: they wished to die surrounded by loved ones. -HASHINO
except for one: the message in p3 seems to lie in its social links, and that to die surrounded by loved ones, or rather knowing you impacted them positively, is “the answer”.
now far be it from me to take anything this man says too seriously since his direction of the persona games, while generally good, have so much dissonance in them sometimes with its themes that its almost painful (seen in p5 most recently). also in this same interview he says 'I’ve never successfully forged a true friendship with a girl in real life.’ and like.
hmmm on the ryoji and shinjiro bit. frickkkkk i never even pictured shinjiro in that same way i view ryoji now that you mention it,,,, this is a great depiction of the “dissonance” between themes I was talking about. although I don’t completely understand the “healthy and content millionaire raised by a loving father” part you mentioned suddenly, i think this is about takaya (strega) VS mitsuru (SEES) is it? cant say it’s about shinji and ryoji since the only thing we know about ryo’s parents is that they never existed. i wouldn’t super call the late kirijo father as outwardly “loving” either. i think i need more context on this LOL if you dont mind.
kirijo group’s unsavory practices have always been out in the open like that yeah, and no one says a thing cause i guess rich = OK and mitsuru is a baddie so = also OK. yukari tries to call her and kirijo as a whole out on it but it’s always with the underlying message of “yukari’s just jealous of mitsu” that gets resolved as soon as yukamitsu’s personal problems do. imo, i sort of liked that the kirijo group wasnt exactly a saintly company cause lbr what companies even are, but their current actions really are just reprehensible to say the least and don’t reflect their “change in ways”, that i can agree with.
now, if i were to rank the closeness of modern persona game’s main casts with eachother it’d look like p4 > p5 >p3. SEES don’t get along with eachother, this is a given. and i do think it was intentional on the game dev’s parts as seen here:
SEES are functionally colleagues with lives outside of eachother. i noticed them being referred to as “friends” during May, yes, but I noticed that only when I wanted to select yukari or junpei in the shrine fortunes, or during Fool Arcana rank ups which are semantics the game has to play by to just, get the point across to the player. they are “friends” in the same way we’d refer to our college classmates as friends, but once semester break rolls around we tend to hang out with other people, right? that’s what SEES are to eachother, at first. also, if we go by the RP-ing as the MC aspect that persona tends to do, then it’s most certainly not just ‘the game’ referring to them as friends but rather the MC seeing them as such. and i dont know, it’s a nice characterization for minato and minako to me -- seeing their dormmates as friends when they dont necessarily feel the same yet. its like they want to be close.
i have to respectfully disagree about the nuance thing as well. interestingly, even the most diehard p3 fan from what i’ve seen sometimes shares your views as well. case in point, yukari being hostile in ‘the answer’ when she supposedly went through character development already in ‘the journey’, which i presented my disputation for here. this, coupled with the junpei thing you mentioned... i think it’s brilliant! call it bad writing, but honestly. to be real. humans make the same mistake over and over before they finally get it. i know i did. especially as a 16-17 teen. these characters are in different contexts most of the time which makes them react in somewhat same ways.
let’s take junpei again as an example. at the monorail he expresses his jealousy, gets over it. during june/july, he gets jealous again, but worse, and this time he doesnt get over it too much until he meets chidori (someone he wants to have lean on him). during that time between the problem and meeting chidori, he hands a quick apology to MC, but that just marks another pivot where instead of taking it out on MC, he takes it out on himself self-deprecatingly. he knows that his problem is himself now -- that’s development to me. and lastly, his conflict with the MC comes out during the climax when he blames them for the shadows, and everything that’s happened. for making their lives hell. understandably, its a hotheaded response to have in that situation. i could see a past teen boy me that would react somewhat the same. but that is not the same as his petty jealousy anymore. all three are still dickish moves, but when we look at it, all three are pretty different contexts? feel free to prove me wrong but i see it as pretty in-line with what we know of junpei tbh.
nothing to do about tartarus im afraid <3 im the type to be okay with grindy gameplay at a modicum myself and i haaaaaated exploring when i first played p3. i almost dropped it actually (so glad i didnt) but yeah. i definitely prefer p5′s main gameplay module, and i wouldn’t mind trading the slog of two hundred+ floors for something more mementos-like.
that’s the spirit! i hope you enjoy p3 one day as much as i do :”) again, i hope this is less of me defending my favorite persona game so much as me just idk. wanting to share good parts of it despite understanding its flaws (i still think the pacing is ass even now). i do mostly agree with your points. have a good day!! (thank u if you read this far oh gosh).
I feel like the main problem with how Strega (Takaya and Jin, at least) are written is just about the game desperately wanting them to remain excessively unlikable until after they are defeated, which is…bizarre and unnecessary, to say the least. They are never actually doing anything of importance, so the narrative relies on "dehumanizing" them into stock villains, to give the players some reason to dislike or, at least, oppose them on a personal level, hence the lack of meaningful characterization. Jin's November comment about SEES "not having a clue what will happen if the Dark Hour disappears", impliedly being about the memory wipeout, since Takaya told them outright they would lose their powers earlier, is the perfect example of this, imo. He gets cut off mid-sentence, so he doesn't spoil it for later, naturally, but it's never brought up again, after eventually being reveled by Ryoji, because that is actually a pretty solid reason for them to antagonize the protagonists (imagine waking up on the streets, with no personal documents, feeling awfully sick and wondering why no one is looking for you!) but, again, they are yet to be defeated and not meant to come off as even remotely sympathetic until then. It's just very…unskillful writing. Sorry for the long message, btw, I initially just wanted to leave a regular comment, actually, but there's just so many words it apparently wouldn't fit in less than five separate responses 😵💫
yoooo thanks for the input. thats also a really good way of looking at it! the game needing to make them unlikeable pretty much explains things. it just ends up being really goofy. which is a shame because they really do have great backstories that remain largely unexplored.
Jin's November comment about SEES "not having a clue what will happen if the Dark Hour disappears", impliedly being about the memory wipeout, since Takaya told them outright they would lose their powers earlier
honestly? i never made this connection myself so thanks for telling me! i could see that being true and i'm about to hit that point in my replay game soon myself so i can look at it with this context. question is how could jin have possibly have known this info... my guess is ikutsuki could have fed them that info since he also supplied them with his suppressant drugs, plus they even knew about the Ruin thing that Nyx could have brought about. honestly, including ikutsuki the "antagonists" of p3 are an interesting bunch with how much potential they have that's not really explored but i guess thats just a hashino persona game thing.
also i just think between them and ikutsuki i def see strega having more sympathetic light being shone on them since they were the direct victims of old kirijo's depravity. out of all the kids, only they survived? your comment about them "not having any personal documents" just strikes me as so fcked up. damn. hope it changes a bit in reload.
#this is more than 10 comments i will say.#ans#persona 3#persona 3 reload#much love btw :finger hearts:

To my Tkkr Anon 🥰
1. I think you forgot when I mentioned last time that @kanmom51 sends me these things. Lmao she said she was going to block you, but I'll answer 🥰 you not tagging me, doesn't mean I won't see it 😂
2. What part of my post was debunking or explaining away taekook moments? 😂 Am... am I not allowed to find them cute and talk about them anymore??? I was gushing over the way they clearly bond over and watch tons of memes and silly videos together. To the point where it's become their thing. Isn't... Isn't that what you guys are all saying too? You are just adding "omg husbands flirting" on it as well. I didn't even say it WASNT romantic, I just said didn't say that it was either. Talking in memes COULD be flirting, but it doesn't mean they are flirting either. Lmao I see it as something super cute, but I don't see it as flirting or Romantic. You CLEARLY disagree though and that is fine. I'm not here to change minds 😂 You aren't even the target audience for my posts, yet here you are anyway!!
3. If this was jikook, my post probably would have been EXACTLY the same as it was for taekook, but I'd have less meme material to work with since they don't meme at each other as much as taekook do 😂 I'd have the vminkook ones, the ONE dubsmash they did as 3J, and the Private Mingguk/Mingguk YouTube channel one (all of which I also included in the memes post for tkk as ones JK participated in too.) But that post still wouldn't have been for you either because I'm a JIKOOK BLOG lol
4. I don't think I've ever made a post about how jikook recreate het couples. Maybe I've done a romance movie reference post. Can't remember. But those are based off movies they've said they find Romantic or when they've literally subbed out their names for the character names. Meaning they've made it very clear they are recreating those characters. Lol Romeo and Juliet and Titantic for example. That's on THEM though, not me. They made that connection, not me. And automatically putting them into the role of husband and wife simply because of the meme they recreated were from a husband and wife YouTube channel is very heteronormative of you. Tae was being cute, you have no confirmation that he was trying to roleplay as JKs wife. (Although I do have proof of both vmin and jikook roleplaying as boyfriend/girlfriend together!) Lmao can't you just coo over Tae being cute for JK? I know that I CAN. The amount of people who found their Instagram "flirting" cute should be everyone.
5. "Don't forget to add I love tkk" lmao why do you want us to not like them? Like do you REALLY think we are all just like you and boo on other ships to validate our own? Wouldn't you APPRECIATE blogs that also appreciate your ship even if they disagree about what the nature of their relationship is? I really don't get this logic. Please feel free to explain to me why you don't want us loving them as friends just because we don't think they are boyfriends? Stop trying to push all your toxic narratives about how shipping works onto everyone else please. It's not how I do things here.
Anyways, I'm honestly just enjoying these messages everytime I get them. How many tkkrs do I have on here or is it just you everytime?? I feel like my posts are causing tkkr chaos with the way you guys keep feeling to need to reply to them, but to OTHER people too. Lmao
Me, watching the chaos unfold 😂
And finally anon, please. You don't have to be anon. Clearly you don't know that today seems to be taekook day over on my blog. You could have sent me an ask and been like "ahhh taekook so cute flirting on Instagram" and I would have been like "I KNOW THEY ARE SO CUTE" And we could have shared cute photos. So sad, what a missed connection we could have had 😭 alas
Anyways, taekook boyfriends anon. You are so right. Instagram confirms it. Love that for them! Soooo romantic those two together 😍 they recreate het memes and are so in love. Can they do October 3rd next? That would just totally confirm to me they are in love with each other. People who watch mean girls together are the only people who are meant to be together forever 😭😭😍😍 I can confirm, I've watched it with my husband and we are meant to be 🥰
Does this count as me throwing a tantrum over them talking about me again? Lol probably. 😂 Thanks for the laugh anon. I wonder if I'll see you in my inbox whenever I turn anons back on?

five favorite fics that I've written (for writer appreciation day)
tagged by kat @sleepy-skittles thank u thank u 😘😘
5. in the garden sleeps a messenger — one of two non birdverse fics ive posted!! the target audience for this fic was me, twenty some odd years ago. ((love u bitch 🥰🥰)) anyway. edea and seifer have Thee Most Interesting Dynamic. it is insane to me how little there is about them. theres mommy issues. theres a highly problematic age gap. theres a concerning power dynamic. theres a hot evil milf with a banger aesthetic. theres the time loop or whatever the fuck was going on there. succession of witches defined my life for over a decade. seifer is into petplay i know this i know this. theres SO MUCH to explore here and it's all so underutilized in the game. this fic honestly does not even begin to get into but i consider it a decent first exploration and hopefully when i have time and energy i can do it a bit more justice. as it is though i really enjoy it!!
4. without a me there is no you —
She has the same blush rounding her cheeks and the same quiet, nervous laughter as the young Mór many years ago who muffled her kisses on Niall's mouth.
this bit was floating around in my head with perfectly clarity when i woke up one day and i immediately wrote out about six hundred words surrounding it on my phone before getting out of bed. im really interested in the implications of niall dreaming a docile sweet mannered replacement wife and i thought it would be interesting to explore it a bit from mór's perspective because she would be so impossibly biased. also thought it would be interesting if she fucked above mentioned replacement. this was my first time really trying to inhabit mór which, let me tell you, is really hard when the only canon information is scraps.
3. ambilevous — oh handcat fic, my weird little brain worm. all my fics are elaborate, long overstayed jokes in one way or another but this one i wrote specifically because the concept was just sooooo silly to me. absolutely absurd. certified kk comedy hour. it is, in usual fashion, a thinly veiled exploration of the more fucked up lynch family dynamics and how the barns arent quite what they seem but of course it is.
2. smoke alarms, smoke — my first exploration of the lynch family 🥰 it means a lot to me. i love this fic. the idea of the barns as a beautiful fairy tale ending had always rubbed me the wrong way and of course i love the slow desolation of locations through those that inhabit it which, really, what is the barns if not a haunted house waiting to happen. thats the part thats lacking (unfortunate!!) but i did get to write declan as a sad sad little kiddy which is one of my few life joys. i loved it when i wrote it and i love it now (which is saying a lot). while it isnt everything i want it to be i do very much love what it is!
1. it's a gift to be simple, it's a gift to be free — my aurora character study and probably the best thing ive written thus far...maybe ever. i honestly have no idea what the fuck i was on when i wrote this but god i wish i could get it back. some of my personal favorite prose comes from this fic. its a very personal fic in that i centered the emotional core on some of my own life bullshit. stylistically i owe so much of this fic to catherine valente's comfort me with apples which i had read around then (as if it wasnt obvious). i had already been thinking about aurora and her role in the lynch family but reading that helped solidify the tone i really wanted. this is another fic i sat down, wrote, and edited all in one night. i think if i hadn't posted it then it would've languished in editing hell so im very happy with what i put out.
oh and the recurring knife thing was because i was having feelings about knife maintenance, as one does. (if anyone wants me to come over and sharpen their kitchen knives and make you dinner lmk)
ive seen this passed around and lost track of who's already done it so if you would like participate then i am tagging you now. enjoy ((:
#kk writing#tagged stuff#late stuff too lol#i thought i was going to post a fic like froday or saturday and then cheat and say that was in my top five#BUT THEN#i was doing a ''quick'' final edit#and then i was like#oh this scene would b better if i#completely#.....#changed it#((^:#so here we are !!!#long post#im so sorry I talk so much

Why must the Loki show be “good” or “well written”? Is it not enough to just watch a little bi guy make a fool of himself? 😤
Tbh tho I feel like the writing mirrors the target audience really well - former angsty teens who were 2012 Loki simps & are now disillusioned adults who just want a fun silly show :3
LISTEN
the show doesnt have to be written well!! i am fully on board for badly written shows!!! BUT!!!!! the characters must be written well!!!! literally the most important part of any story is that you write the characters well and loki has not been written well in any interpretation you may have of his character. the way hes acting doesnt make SENSE go back and watch thor 1 then avengers 1 which are set 6 months apart then watch loki which supposedly takes place 5 minutes later that doesnt work!!!! it wouldnt even work if it was just post ragnarok/infinity war loki tbh he doesnt match but that they went to the trouble of establishing that this is directly post avengers loki doesnt make a lick of fucking sense for the way theyve characterised him
if they really wanted to characterise him this way its not even like its not doable either??? they couldve hand waved it off by having his entire timeline dumped into his brain the second he was taken out of his own or having him left rotting in jail for years before we got to this point so hes gone a bit cuckoo or whatever they literally couldve done him characterised this way as long as they put more than three seconds of thought into it which they clearly havent bothered to do its winding me up so MUCH

7 - Route: Maybe she doesn’t know this way.
Conclusion: A photo: Theodore walking home; he doesn’t appear to be aware he’s being photographed.
8 - Arrival: Isn’t she a nice young lady?
Conclusion: Ms. Aguillard and her father have made a generous offer! Don’t be selfish!
9 - Pressure: What did I do?
Conclusion: A photograph: Two men shaking hands. Theodore and the girl are standing to the side; Theodore looks distraught.
10 - Faith: You must remain true, or live in regret.
Conclusion: I cannot be ruined over this mistake. I must escape.
11 - Familiarity: The only place I know.
Conclusion: A way to rid myself of this parasite? I’ll take the chance.
Story — Born from a poor family, Theodore always had a passion for the arts. He made his way to be an actor for a local theatre in his early twenties. He wasn’t well known but enjoyed it nonetheless. Soon, he noticed that the same girl began to appear at his performances. She eventually came up to him and introduced herself, and explained herself as a newfound fan of his. She started coming backstage to tell him how well he did each performance. He started to notice that more people began to attend his performances; he learned that this was because of the girl. The attention wasn’t all good; he began to notice the girl followed him wherever he went, and he’d have to take different paths home to avoid her. He came home one night to see the girl and her family discussing with his; she wasn’t any girl, but the daughter of a wealthy French family. The family was there for business, but the girl began to travel to Britain for each of his performances. Her father offered him and his family a large sum of money to help his career take off of Theodore agreed to marry the girl. Panicked, he accepted. Later in the evening, the girl came to visit Theodore again. She explained that if he was unfaithful or ever made her doubt his love for her, she would publicly ruin him because they belonged together. Panicked, Theodore escaped from the window, and ran to the only place he knew to— the theatre. Backstage was a letter addressed to him, promising a way to get rid of his stalker forever, while still achieving his dream.

Mindful Consumption of Hazbin Hotel’s vodoo Content
There is no such thing as Voodoo; it is a silly lie invented by you whites to injure us. —William Seabrook, The Magic Island
(Article and Study Link Sources will be in the reblogs because Tumblr doesn’t let linked posts appear)
First of all, I’m not writing this as a Vodou practitioner. Or as a Creole POC. I’m simply an outsider making an effort to educate herself for mindful consumption of Hazbin Hotel content and avoid perpetuating misrepresentation of a religion.
(Image: Alastor with Vodou symbols and Vodou-inspired symbols behind him)
The portrayed dark magic of Hazbin Hotel’s Alastor is heavily themed with Hollywood Voodoo or the misrepresentation of Vodou in film. This can also apply with Dr. Facilier in “The Princess and the Frog.” Both characters are from New Orleans [18], [19] where Louisiana Vodou Vaudou is practiced. Both are therefore assumed to practice an evil version of said religion.
During my consumption of Hazbin Hotel content, someone once pointed out the worrying factor of Alastor’s magic abilities identified as Hollywood Voodoo.
According to my research, Hollywood Voodoo is a film outlet of “Imagined Voodoo” or the age-old White anxieties on Black people.
What Is Vodou?
(Photo taken from Huffpost)
Haitian Vodou is a religion of African descendants brought as slaves to the French colony of Haiti. It combines west and west central African religions with Native American and European cultural and religious elements.[1]
It is also known as Vodoo, Vodoun, Vudu and Vudun. But to avoid confusion, the term “Vodou” will be used consistently throughout this post when referring to the religion.
Slaves from Haiti are brought to New Orleans where it infused with its dominant religion, Catholicism. The Vodou-Catholicism hybrid religion is sometimes referred to as New Orleans Vodou.[2]
(Photo provided by Cheryl Gerber)
All Vodou rituals are healing rituals. It's focused on the celebration of ancestral spirits (Lwa or Loa) through feasting, singing and ecstatic dance rituals to heal ailments and restore social bonds.[1]
Vodou practitioners believe of the visible world connected to the invisible world that can be transitioned to through Death. In the invisible world, the Lwa watch over and inspire us. The Lwa can be archetypes of human personalities such as Ogun the Warrior or predecessors. There is also the Bondye or their version of the supreme God who is loving but distant from individual human concerns. [3]
But despite this, a majority of foreigners synonimize “voodoo” with Haitian “black magic” or “sorcery.”[4]
What is Imagined Voodoo?
A Harvard study termed "Imagined Voodoo" to refer to the imagined religion and magical system of the American brain linked by the following White anxieties:
Black uprising
Black fetishization
Intermarriages that could lead to the dissolution of the White race
All under the guise of history or harmless entertainment, it negatively affects Black religiosity and in general, Black subjects. Unless we arm ourselves with information to prevent its perpetuation through us.
Alastor’s Themes and Voodoo Stereotypes
Stereotypes are often used in stories to save time on informing the audience through widely held and fixed oversimplified assumptions. The following Voodoo stereotypes are present in Alastor’s character traits and themes.
His Roots
According to Alastor’s Wikia page, he is part Creole.[20] In New Orleans, the term can refer to many kinds of people. In early history, "Creole" is a term for:
A slave born in the New World[5]
A free Person of Color[5]
People of Mixed Heritage[5]
Later on, White French and Spanish people residing in New Orleans adopted the term to differentiate themselves from Americans whom they found greedy and ambitious.[5]
A Creole person can be White, a POC or of mixed race from different places such as Haiti and Louisiana.
The team behind Hazbin Hotel may have made Alastor part Creole in order to avoid religion appropriation. However, Vodou is not an exclusive religion. [6] (EDIT: Vodou is an exclusive religion.) And even if they want to represent mixed Creole people, pairing Alastor with Hollywood Voodoo may not be a good way to do it.
Vodou practitioners today are targets of hate crime, especially in Haiti (sacred mapou trees are regular targets of vandalism and arson, worshippers risk harassment and violence, with lynchings not unheard of).[7] If the media continues to portray Vodou as evil, it may have a role in perpetuating the hate.
(Image of a Vodou ceremony from a video of The Guardian)
Depicted As Evil Magic
In America and Caribbean, Vodou was first practiced by slaves of African descent. Their religion was dismissed as superstition, their priests as witch doctors and their God and Lwa were denounced as evil. [3]
“They were treated as cattle. As animals to be bought and sold; worth nothing more than a cow. Often less,” anthropologist Ira Lowenthal stated.[7]
“Vodou is the response to that. Vodou says ‘no, I’m not a cow. Cows cannot dance, cows do not sing. Cows cannot become God. Not only am I a human being – I’m considerably more human than you. Watch me create divinity in this world you have given me that is so ugly and so hard. Watch me become God in front of your eyes.’”[7]
During the Haitian Revolution, many of the slaves were Voodooists and some of their military leaders were priests who inspired and organized them to fight for freedom. The imagery and vocabulary of Vodou became threatening to European and American colonies and was then brutally repressed. [3]
(Image from Lisapo Ya Kama)
Years later, Hollywood Voodoo is rooted in racism and acts as an outlet for White anxiety of Black vengeance. One example is the movie, “The Skeleton Key” where Black hoodoo practitioners (who had been lynched) stole the bodies and identities of White people for years.
For Alastor to continue using Hollywood Voodoo themed magic may continue the misinformation of Vodou by inspiring baseless fear and horror.
Voodoo Dolls and Pins
Voodoo dolls are universally associated with Hollywood voodoo and therefore, Vodou. But voodoo dolls are unheard of in the original Haitian Vodou.
In reality, they were inspired from the "poppet" of European witchcraft after an American writer heard Vodou is a witchcraft [8]. This American writer is most likely Victor Hugo Halperin where voodoo dolls first appeared in White Zombie (1932) [9].
Dolls are used in Vodou but only to represent Lwa and Bondye, sometimes the dolls are nailed on graves and altars, in order for the practitioners to communicate with them. The dolls also act as lucky charms and are not used to curse or cause harm with pins. [10], [21]
Cannibalism
(Screenshot of Alastor the Deer Demon eating a deer)
On February 13, 1864, 4 men and 4 women were executed for abducting, murdering and cannibalizing a 12-year-old girl by Fabre Geffrad, Haiti's reformist president, who wished to make an example out of the 8 killers labelled as vodouists and leave the backwardness of its African past and its folk religion. With Haiti claiming their independence, the Westerns' view on Vodou was proof that the "black republic '' cannot claim to be civilized.[11]
No transcripts of the trial survive. The most detailed account of the crime was written by Sir Spenser St John, the British charge d'affaires in Port-au-Prince -the place nearby the village where the murder happened. It was his account that defined Haiti as a place where ritual murder and cannibalism were common and often goes unpunished.[11]
(An artist’s engraving of the 8 “voodoo” practitioners found guilty of the murder and cannibalism of the 12-year-old Claircine from the Smithsonian Magazine.)
However, there was no other information supporting St. John's claim that cannibalism is a norm for 19th century Haiti. The only two reports of cannibalism provided was from a French priest in 1870s and a white Dominican ten years later. Both have no evidence and both are suspected from their claim that they have penetrated secret ceremonies wearing blackface -if they have been undetected. However, they have influenced Victorian writers who have never visited Haiti.[11]
In the 19th century, American Jesuit missionary, Joseph W. Williams claims that sexual arousal from voodoo "orgies" causes devolution to lower animal states that causes them to cannibalize in an act of sexualized violence.[1]
In Joseph Murphy's psychoanalysis, Imagined Voodoo allows White people to project their most disturbing desires onto a cultural Other.[13]
"The erotic and ecstatic elements in African-derived religions are selected and transformed into images of unrestraint and become vehicles for white sexual and aggressive fantasies... What is ‘dark’ and ‘black’ within the white psyche is projected onto what is ‘dark’ and ‘black’ in the social environment."[13]
Because of the accusations of cannibalism, Vodou is seen as savage. Alastor is hinted to be cannibalistic (as seen by a speed drawing of him, a deer demon, eating a deer).[12] To continue to associate cannibalism with voodoo practice may continue the harm of misinformation.
Vodou Symbols
When Alastor uses magic, Vodou symbols or veves would sometimes appear.
In Vodou, different veves are used depending on the lwa or spirits the practitioners desired to invoke.
(Veve image from Catherine Beyer)
Damballah-Wedo is believed by the Vodou practitioners as the Sky Father and primordial creator of all life. He is depicted as a snake or serpent and is seen as a loving father of the world whose presence brings peace and harmony. [23]
(Veve image from Catherine Beyer)
A part of a veve in the screenshot is from the veve for Papa Legba -the gatekeeper of the spirt world. He is associated with the sun and is seen as a life-giver that transfers the power of Bondye to the living world. Rituals are started by praying to Legba to open the gates so that they can connect to the other lwas. [23]
(Ayizan Voudou Veve copyright 2009 Denise Alvarado, All rights reserved worldwide.)
The veve above is the veve of Ayizan. Ayizan is the lwa of commerce and herbal healing. She is associated with love and Vodou rites of initiation. Ayizan is believed to be the first archetypal mambo (priestess) and the protector of religious ceremonies.[14]
(Veve Image from ErzulieRedEyesArtAndSpirit)
The veve above is taken from the veve of Papa Loko. He is believed to be the first Vodou priest. His name has nothing to do with the American (EDIT: Spanish) slang word "loco" meaning crazy. Papa Loko is a revered knowledgeable spirit who offers spiritual guidance to those seeking formal initiation into Vodou.[15]
Met Kalfou is the master of the Crossroads. He is the crossroads where magic manifests regardless of which lwa is using magic for. He allows it to travel without judgement.[16]
Met Kalfou is often mistaken as some kind of demon or evil. He is believed to be the force through which all magic flows, be it good or ill. Met Kalfou is also the spirit of luck. As a manifestation of crossroads, he can see multiple outcomes of a situation. [16]
Santa Muerte is believed to be the personification of death itself.[17]
Using veves to portray evil when it incorrectly relates to what they symbolize can result in misinformation. Even if only parts of the veve are taken to be used to portray malice, it doesn’t change the fact that they still came from sacred symbols.
Is Alastor a Hoodoo Practitioner?
(Photo: Image of Hoodoo Candles from Wikipedia)
Hoodoo is based heavily on folk magic. It is not a religion. Although their beliefs have elements of African and European religions. Its tradition emphasizes on personal magical power with the intention to improve daily lives. Its a combination of African practices and beliefs and American Indian botanical knowledge and European folklore. It’s heavily practiced in the Southern US.[22]
Unlike Vodou, they have no designated priests or priestesses and no difference between initiates and laity. Hoodoo spells are commonly accompanied with Biblical text but are not performed in Jesus’ name. It uses tools, spells, formulas, methods, techniques. Tools can be herbs, roots, minerals, animal parts and personal possessions.[22]
Alastor MAYBE a hodoo practitioner. But there are possible problems of associating an occult of a minority as a tool of evil. It might be best if Alastor is only depicted using deer-radio-themed dark magic instead.
In Short...
Misrepresentation of Vodou has its roots on White fear of Black retribution as well as White “othering” and projecting of taboo concepts such as fetishization and cannibalism. This results in stigmatization of Black topics and Vodou practitioners. The continuation of Hollywood Voodoo plays a role in perpetuating its misrepresentation. However, informing ourselves may stop the perpetuation in us.

I Promised You The Moon rant
Just binged it and this was from the episode by episode reaction/discussion with my partner in crime @glossyboy.
First of all, Oab stole the show, singlehandedly, which he's not supposed to. I don't think anyone expected it including himself. In the very top post when I searched his name on tumblr, he said this lol
But the truth is he played one hell of "villain" that required a very nuanced performance and he delivered it in a believable and graceful manner. Jai became the catalyst of the entire season and his rather complicated relationship with Teh was the highlight of part 2.
EP 1
From the very beginning it's clear that part 2 is very much a Teh's story rather than a balanced story about two young people's journey as a couple in the next chapter of their lives. It makes me uncomfortable they made Oh-aew clingy and pessimistic without giving him any character development.
The best part is probably the opening scene where they went paper-rock-scissors to decide who's gonna buy condoms. It felt authentic, the expectation, the hesitation, the mischievous act, all fits their characters well. Other times ep 1 was more like two adult kids playing house, literally in an empty giant ass upper middle class apartment.
EP 2
It's great that they poked the femininity vs. masculinity issue through Oh-aew, but stopped right there at the surface. Missed a perfect opportunity to go head-to-head with the controversial topic, start a debate, crush the stigma of femininity, bring something new, be a real game changer of the BL genre, and most importantly give Oh-aew some concrete character development. Part 1 showed us a gay character that's very comfortable with his sexuality and femininity, that's almost revolutionary in Asia, not as a comic relief but a leading role. Oh-aew questioned his own sexual identity once in that bra wearing scene, it's straight out of comfort zone, BOLD, and transgressive. So I expected more from part 2.
That's it? And they're already sophomores? Can't believe Oh-aew's character has been marginalized like this. It's pathetic.
But I love the brutally honest conversation at the end where Teh vented his rage and despair regarding his frustration of acting. He was acting like a dick because he's disappointed, and scared. Teh again was not afraid of showing vulnerability, making the reconciliation very realistic and touching.
EP 3
Dare I say I freaking love ep 3! The unresolved (partially sexual, but not entirely) tension between Teh and Jai was over the roof! And the built-up to their kiss was very authentic, which paled Teh and Oh-aew's much sidelined storyline, including the long anticipated sex scene (still can't believe it happened right after Jai explicitly instructed Teh to do it after the two spent a whole night bonding, like wow! Totally TRANSGRESSIVE and to some extent, kinky.) Teh looked up to the senior, idolized him, wanted to be good for him and make him proud, thirsted for the validation from him, which was mixed with affections. The workshop diary was a brilliant idea to let them open up to each other and eventually bring them close. This was what a meaningful arc of a story looked like. By contrast, there isn't a single moment between Oh-aew and Teh in part 2 that made me go "Damn it's soooooo hot!"
I know Jai/Teh wasn't the endgame but I appreciate the storyline so much. It's a very bold move considering it broke the over-glorified "one true love in one's life" fantasy of its target audience, mostly young cis women. The popular narrative of "you can only love one person through your life/one true love" in romance fictions/chick flicks was totally smashed. And it wasn't written just to stir up things between Teh and Oh-aew, it wasn't a silly fling. Instead, it's meaningful, complicated, natural, and realistic, delivered by nuanced and excellent acting from two young actors. It's hilarious that fans hate Jai with a passion and call him names.
And big news, Jai is bi?! Bravo! He's radiating bi vibes since his first appearance.
I kind of gave up at this point, the season wouldn't do Oh-aew any justice. Like my partner in crime pointed out, the costume design literally threw some "incongruous female fashion pieces" on Oh-aew, made him dye his hair red, without...making any actual point of his personality or his character development. Wardrobe was supposed to make a point in storytelling. Yes, PP wearing pink is cute, and? There's nothing else for Oh-aew. Unfortunately he's reduced to this sulky, crying, and wronged partner in a failing relationship.
EP 4
Oab again was killing it. The tension between Jai and Teh...from the rehearsal in front of Oh-aew to the dressing room pep talk, was incredibly intense and hot AF.
Was it a manipulative relationship after all? Oab was so good at conveying a character with many faces. Jai's a mentor to Teh, also a good friend, their relationship was genuine. He's also ambitious with his own goals, he used, challenged, provoked Teh in a way that benefited them both. It made sense the title of part 2, I Promised You The Moon, was from Jai's script. He promised Teh what the junior wanted the most, a bright future in acting. Teh's unconventional and unspoken feelings for Jai was the best part of the entire season in terms of creative writing, it's complicated, fragile, delicate and completely heartbreaking.
The after talk in the hallway was so well-written. It's funny (Teh joking about playwrights always write about their EXs is gold), intimate yet meticulously controlled, no one lashed out or wept. Both knew what they signed up for and Jai particularly made it clear about his motive and the purpose of the "special workshop" beforehand (or right away.) Yet it's no one's fault that Teh got carried away. He's younger, he's immature, he's more into it, it's totally natural. It's so romantic when Teh's singing karaoke in the bar with Oh-aew, yet he couldn't help but desperately staring at Jai on the floor, knowing he and the man who just turned him down were never gonna happen, they were done, but he's still madly attracted to him and his talent. He fancied Jai, at least the idea of Jai, a playwright, a director, someone knew him better than himself. That hurt beautifully.
EP 5
Teh/Oh-aew endgame at this point was pretty meaningless. Oh-aew as a leading character never got any solid character development over a span of four years. What happened between Jai and Teh wasn't just "cheating", though they surely made it look that way, like Teh's empty promise of "I won't see him again after the show ends". No matter how Oh-aew and Teh eventually reconciled, there's no emotional connection, no sparkle anymore between the couple.
But I knew for a fact they had to. Otherwise it's too much of a risk financially for the series. The creators had to take the easy way out like most traditional romances—one of the most contrived and formulaic trope where the male leading character made a mistake (usually cheating) and realized he's wrong, he deeply hurt the female leading character (Oh-aew was merely a girl substitute in part 2), then he completely changed for hell knew what reasons, started doing every nicest thing in the world to try to "win" the female character back. It has been feeding the emotionally-deprived cis female readers/audience who are frustrated with heterosexual relationship irl for decades. The formula that made romance outsell other genres of fictions combined in the 60s and 70s still sells today, under the name of boys' love. It's pathetic to see Oh-aew confess to Bas that he always "lost" to Teh. Love shouldn't be some kind of game or competition, there isn't winner or loser in love. Love is spontaneous. Oh-aew didn't lose because Teh developed feelings for someone else, and he didn't win when Teh begged him for reconciliation. People change, people move on.
And as predicted, they went for it. The ending was so absurd and tedious.
Overall, Jai's probably the hardest villain to play, he needed to be REALLY GOOD to be "the bad guy", to make his role conceivable. Oab absolutely nailed it with his talent and experience. He's not even my type or extremely good looking yet I'm 100% SOLD. I immediately re-watched the scene of him kissing Teh back hungrily at the end of ep 3 like I used to re-watch Teh/Oh-aew's steamy make out session at the end of episode 3 part 1. Coincidence?
I like some parts of both seasons for the same reason, each challenged and tried to break some outdated/contrived narratives in the BL genre. Part 1 took on the sexuality taboo by showing two same sex characters sexually attracted to each other, no more "I'm not into boys, I just happened to fall for someone of the same gender" or "pure love" bullshit. By staying true to the characters' sexuality and actually showing it with explicit, intense (and beautifully shot) scenes, the gay characters were normalized. They weren't just pure and innocent, no one was. And it created two of most unconventional gay characters in Asian pop culture, Oh-aew, a beautiful boy who's very comfortable with his own sexuality and femininity, not passive at all, taking initiative to pursue what he wanted; and Teh, a sensitive, caring and vulnerable boy who cried a lot, he's confused but also sweet and brave.
Part 2 tackled the "You can only love one person through your life" trope with a very nuanced story of "cheating". Yet neither carried out what they started. Part 1 fell short of a revolutionary piece that stayed true to "adolescent sexual turmoil", dismissing bisexuality and becoming a typical unrealistic BL fantasy in the end. And Part 2, ugh, forced a "happy ending" that almost no one digs. I understand it's extremely difficult and risky to disrupt the established norms of a genre. But sometimes being transgressive and progressive could be the same thing. A story, an artwork, has to challenge something in order to create something new and compelling.

Comment I just posted on the MLP Facebook page’s reveal of Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow:
Wow, it’s weird to have a pony with an actual human name!! It’s a shame to see G4 finally be completely phased out, but I felt the same way about G3 (which I grew up with), and G4 surprised me with how amazing it was! I hope to be just as pleasantly surprised with G5!
I’m really liking what I’m seeing so far of the movie, but time will tell when it comes to the toys. So far, from what’s been leaked, I’m really not a fan of the facial sculpts. But these are also the very first toys of the generation, so I understand that they’re still working out the kinks.
My main hope for this generation: more diversity in the toy line, for one. Gens 1-3 had SO MANY different ponies!! You’d NEVER get bored by the broad expanse of characters!! But with G4, they mainly just focused on the Mane 6, which, while understandable from a marketability standpoint regarding kids’ interest in the main characters, left a lot to be desired from a collectability and diversity standpoint. If you’ve got one Rainbow Dash, you’ve essentially got them all. There were only minor differences, like size of the figure or accessories included. I stuck with just getting the Fashion Style ponies, and I was happy with that. (I was still a kid when G4, but I was in middle school when it first came out, so I do admit I know wasn’t exactly the target audience.)
But with G3? Back before my mom pressured me to donate my collection as a kid (sadly we have very limited storage space in our house, so it was kind of a necessity), I had SO MANY different ponies!! I had ENDLESS stories I came up with for them!! Most of them featured the same cast of my favorites with the backstories I invented for them: Minty, who was my all-time favorite and who usually served as the main character, Wisteria, who was the shy, reserved one, Kimono, her more outgoing, fashion-minded sister, Applejack, the outdoorsy one, Moondancer, who was relaxed and low-key, and Sparkleworks, who was the easily excitable firecracker of the group. Cotton Candy also made frequent appearances as the cafe owner, of course. But the great thing was that I wasn’t limited to just them, nor were they even the “main characters” of G3. I had options. I wasn’t restricted to the same 6 ponies over and over again. And I want that same kind of diversity of the character lineup for kids enjoying MLP today.
My other hope for G5? That Minty will make a return, either as a character in the series or in the toy line. Is that silly of me? Maybe. But I just adore Minty. She was my first ever pony, and I love her to pieces. I even have a small collection of Mintys. I still need to find myself one of the G4 brushable Mintys!! I hated that she came in a big pack of other ponies, bc I only really wanted Minty and couldn’t really afford the big pack. Hopefully eBay will serve me well in my search.
Total ramble, and I doubt anyone will read this to completion, but I’m just super stoked to see where this next gen of MLP takes us!!
