Home design and decor is pretty much all I think about, so here's a longer post with all my ideals and progress updates.
We got a nice little ranch in a perfect neighborhood that had not been updated since it was built in the 80s. We've torn down wallpaper, spackled and painted all but one room upstairs, and torn out the gross old carpet and replaced them with faux hickory wood floors that I think are lovely.
As far as design goes, I think of it as my little jewel box home. Very maximalist and eclectic, a bit boho. lots of bold bright colors. I want the whole house to be basically one gallery wall flowing into the other. and filled with funky thrifted and vintage items and odd and lovely treasures from places we've traveled. Here's some inspo from my pinterest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have an emerald green living room with lots of dark wood and gold accents. I've been collecting vintage gold frames for ages and have a pile of them ready to go! The room is painted and ready for finishing touches, but I am torn about whether to go ahead and do the living room gallery wall now or wait and do all the gallery walls in the house at once? (pls advise!) I am also on the hunt for the perfect couch to go against the gallery wall. On the opposite wall we have a emerald velvet futon couch.
The master bedroom has a terra cotta accent wall, and we're gonna put a giant gold floor length mirror (a dupe of the iconic anthropologie mirror. I got at Sam's club for less $99 and I LOVE it)
The bathroom is a soft blue green (called rainy afternoon) with gold and wooden accents.
and the guest bedroom has a bold lingonberry red accent wall, with white duvet an old kantha throw blanket. Originally the red room was going to be the office/ second guest room, but the bed and flow fits better in that room, so it's now going to be the primary guest bedroom. The plan when it was an office room was to do an all black and white gallery wall, with some BIG bold pieces. But now that it's a bedroom I am not sure if people will feel like they're being stared at? and if I should move the black and white gallery wall to the smaller third room/office?
And all throughout the house I have recycled silk sari patchwork curtains that coordinate with each room. They let all the morning and evening sun in and it gives me such joy!
Throughout the house we have the same warm tan/neutral (called Writer's Parchment. So obviously I was predisposed to love it). I think I am just going to use that color in the third bedroom, because I do get bored fairly easily and so it will be nice to have a room where I can swap out the accent colors without painting a wall.
And we're still deciding if we're going to paint the boring old oak kitchen cabinets-- mostly because if we DO paint, I can't decide what color?
ANYWAYS IT'S ALL SO FUN

The city of Joy- Kolkata
Tumblr media
You either fall in love with Kolkata – hook, line, and sinker, or you simply don’t. Steeped in the colonial legacy that is as old as four centuries, Kolkata elicits an extreme reaction mostly from folks that visit it, and even those that have made it their home. The eccentricities of the city, its over-crowded bazaars, the lavish spattering of Victorian architecture melding into dingy neighborhoods of ancestral homes that have seen better days, are enough for those who prefer its languid rhythm to absolutely adore and cherish it.
In order to truly soak up the essence of Kolkata, there is plenty to take in outside of its well-known languorous pace. Here shopkeepers bring down their shutters in the afternoon to indulge in a siesta – prospective customers be waiting. The evenings are punctuated with rounds of tea and cutlet at a coffee house over an animated political discussion, and everyone – from hawkers, cabbies, to wayfarers – move in a beat of their own. Whether it is shopping for Tant and Kantha sarees, secondhand books or tripping on lip-smacking Chinese – also inexpensive – to picking up antiques like an old Roman clock, a Gramophone or a vinyl record – Kolkata sets the perfect stage.
Today we give you eight compelling reasons to visit the only Indian city that went through Renaissance.
1. You don’t need a reason to indulge your sweet tooth:
Tumblr media
When not joining the fellas for an adda at the rock (rock here refers to leisurely chat on the porch of a house or a playground), Bong folks indulge themselves with sweets doused in patali gud (palm jaggery). Some of the sweets you need to cross out from your wish-list of traditional Bengali sweets are the ubiquitous Rosogolla, Sandesh, Chom Chom, Sita Bhog, Langcha, Kalo Jaam, Gaja, Kheer Kadam to name a few. Don’t rely only on the sweets available at the hotels in Kolkata – go out and savour the local shops. You don’t have to go far and wide in search of these assorted sweets, even your friendly neighborhood sweet-shop will do a nifty job of them.
2.  Kolkata is synonymous with budget shopping: If you are the artsy type and have an ethnic bias in your preference of clothes and fabric, Kolkata is your hub. The dizzying array of sarees its local markets offer from Tant, Katha, Baluchari, Bangladeshi Dhakai, to hand-painted and embroidered ones on Tussar and Bishnupuri silk, can make a discerning saree connoisseur out of you. Furthermore, head to the New Market area for some pretty trinkets in silver, pick up pieces of Blue Pottery, the famed Bakura horses carved in terracotta too make for a good souvenir, including the elaborately decked Chau masks depicting gods and goddesses from Indian mythology.
3. Of tram rides and Durga Puja: While people here are always on the move, they are in no rush to get anywhere. To test this maxim, a tram ride is warranted. The milieu of people using it as a daily mode of transport, their quirky chatter, and their inherent passion to quote Robi Thakur (Rabindranath Tagore for you), is an art acquired. Besides, its quite another thing to experience the city during Durga puja decked up for festivities. The exhibition of lights, the grandiose puja pandals, the fervor, and the unrelenting din on the streets intermingling with the sound of conch and chiming bells, can get you addicted to the kaleidoscope that is Kolkata.
4. The Ganges flowing beneath the Howrah Bridge is the most photographed site:
Tumblr media
The iconic Howrah Bridge straddling a serene Ganga river with a lone oarsman dragging his frail wooden boat along it, is a lasting imagery this old-world city throws up. One of the busiest cantilever bridges in the world, commissioned in 1943 under British India, a drive through the Howrah Bridge passing the daily vistas of the Hooghly River is at once rejuvenating and a must-do for every tourist to the ‘City of Joy.’
5. A day of sightseeing and an evening of light and sound show at Victoria Memorial:
Tumblr media
Not to mention, there is no escaping the touristy things to do in Kolkata, for they too carry with them a certain novelty. Agreed you have seen your share of museums and interactive spaces, but Kolkata’s Science City is in a league of its own, comparable only to Andhra’s Birla Science Museum. From taking a trip in a time machine to experiencing the phenomena of quicksand – it truly makes science relatable, even engrossing. Proceed to the Nehru Children’s Museum and browse the doll’s gallery to get a sense of the country’s ethnicity. Round up with a trip to the iconic Victoria Memorial. Peruse the museum for its collection of portraits and memorabilia of the Queen before winding up in the sprawling gardens for an engaging light and sound show reconstructing pages from India’s history.

High Quality Vintage Sari Kantha Quilt, Handmade Patchwork Indian Bedding Throw, Home Decor Reversible Old Sari Blanket, Old Kantha Quilts
Tumblr media
This is a beautiful, soft, Handmade one of a kind vintage kantha throw. Each one is unique and has different colours and patterns on either side. The beautiful textures on both sides of the quilt with closure fine kantha work makes it cool, vibrant and appealing. Our kantha throws are so much more than just a throw. Handcrafted by skilled artisans from rural villages in Rajasthan which are located around the India & Pakistan border. This is a very special Hand Crafted Kantha Quilt because it is made up of 10-15 years old saris and with hundreds of running stitches. Kantha is a Uniquely ""Quilted"" texture made from layering colourful Homemade Indian Vintage Kantha Cotton Fabrics together. Our kantha quilts are beautiful works of art, hand-crafted in the best quality by native women working in excellent conditions. These are created with four to six layers of vintage sari cloth, layered and joined with straight rows of even stitching. Bright colours, bold prints, and unique pairings reflect local vibrancy and spirit and ensure no one else has a blanket exactly like yours. Each throw is a one-of-a-kind with it’s own unique variations and each one reflects its own story. Our standard blankets are stitched in approximately 35 hours spanning across 5 days by hand. These are beautiful heirloom pieces which provide freedom and opportunity to the craftsmen who hand crafted your kantha quilt. A little more about our blankets: - The cloth used in our kanthas is re-purposed, which means no new dyes or inks, no by-products of production; the only factory-produced supplies we use are thread. - Our 'special' silk-blend blankets are made from silk-blend cloth discarded by the producers for flaws, colour variation, out-dated patterns, or as remnants. - Thickness : Each layer of sari cloth is very thin (imagine a soft muslin for a baby swaddle), so if there are only 3 or 6 layers, the blanket will be very light. This is the most common thickness, but is much thinner than most Westerners would expect from a blanket. Our kanthas are made with 6 layers of sari cloth. The final product is still thin, not bulky, but definitely as robust as kantha come. They are light, but provide great warmth. - Edge Stitching : This is where a more inexpensively produced, lower quality kantha will reveal itself. A well-made kantha should have a straight edge, with a kantha stitch right up to the edge, preventing any fraying or interior cloth coming out. Our kantha are stitched with precision all around! Our kantha blankets are all made in a generous, safe, positive business by vulnerable and at-risk women who can now work with dignity. We stand by our products and are confident that you won't find a kantha that is as unique, versatile, rich in story, or as well-constructed as our hand-stitched kantha quilts. Size : Assorted twin size (Approx. size given in details) Colour And Design : As image shown (colour tits may vary due to the lighting effect). Since all vintage products are handmade there might be some size variation of +/- 2 inches.. Can Be Used as:- 1.Quilt 2.Bed Spread 3.Blanket 4.Bed Cover 5.Sofa Cover 6.All weather bedroom quilt 7.wedding fit 8.Picnic Rug 9.Wonderful Bedroom Bedding Care instructions: Hand-wash in warm water
