Vander and Silco used to be married and close friends to Felicia up until her death, which sparks the spiral into their divorce. They think they'll never have to see each other again until Connel suddenly passes away in a car accident, Powder being the only survivor with mild injuries. Vi, thankfully had been at practice.

Vander takes in both girls without hesitation. He thinks taking in two young, grieving girls under 10, whose lives he'd shamefully been absent from during the past few years, who are now likely traumatized in vastly different ways is going to a swath of challenges. He hadn't even considered he'd only be getting one.

As it turns out Vander is only Violet's godparent. Silco is Powders. Even worse in their parents will it even explicitly states that Powder is to be with Silco while Vi remain with Vander.

At first Silco is intent on using this to hurt Vander but quickly finds himself unable to resist pouring the love he tries to suppress into Powder and quickly remembers why he avoided seeing Vander in person for so long after their breakup.

Powder isn't exactly fond of the strange cyclops of a man at first but quickly the still recovering little girl finds that perhaps this scary, grumpy old man is just a little broken like she is. She and Violet see each other regularly as neither men can deny the sisters that.

And if Powder perhaps begins to convince her sister to join her in her scheme to get their dad's back together, well what's the harm in trying.
