everyday i see clueless westerners (especially white people) peddle thinly veiled hindutva propaganda which they wouldn't know cause they know absolutely nothing about what goes on in india. so here are some signs that that the person you're talking to is a hindu nationalist:
they either do not acknowledge casteism or claim that caste is a western construct. my personal favourite however is dismissing anyone bringing up caste discrimination by saying that the indian constitution outlaws untouchability. they may also bring up the fact that the prime minister belongs to an other backwards class (obc) so clearly india has moved on from caste and hindutva isn't only for the upper castes. they possess a shallow understanding of caste
harping on about "islamic colonisation" : no, the mughals did not colonise india. when you point this out, they will immediately assume that you think muslim invaders were innocent beings who did nothing wrong, which is very much not what anyone is claiming here
while we're on the topic of "islamic colonisation" they will also refer to the demolishing of muslim sites of heritage and worship and then building hindu temples over them as "decolonisation" (cough cough ram mandir) the hindu right also goes around pretending that they're the indigenous people of india
along a similar vein, they will dismiss islamophobia by bringing up instances of hindu oppression in countries like pakistan and bangladesh. it is true that hindus are persecuted in these two countries, however they are used to fuel their oppression complex, that their upper caste hindu self is under attack in india of all places (think a white christian in the united states). you should be in solidarity with minorities everywhere. it is neither transactional or conditional (note: they will never bring up sri lanka. persecution of hindus exists only when the oppressors are muslim)
claiming that hindu nationalism and hindutva are not the same because hindutva means "hindu-ness". that is only the literal translation of the term. like it or not, they're the same thing
they support the indian military occupation of kashmir. they will call it an integral part of kashmir, one reason which will be "hinduism is indigenous to kashmir." they will also bring up the last maharaja of kashmir signing the instrument of accession as further proof, as if the consent of the people was taken
they're zionists. do i even need to explain this. hindutva is just zionism for hindus
they refer to buddhism and jainism (sikhism too sometimes) as branches of hinduism rather than separate, distinct religions
they condemn any resistance to the indian govt as a burden or terrorism (like calling the farmers who are currently protesting a hindrance or terrorists. funny how sikhs are the same as hindus when they support hindu causes but terrorists when they resist oppression...)
they call you a pseudo liberal or a fake leftist. i'm telling you, they don't know jackshit. they can't even tell the difference between a liberal and a leftist and call US unread lmao. bonus points if they call you a liberandu or a sickular 💀
they call india "bharat" when they talk in english. there are in fact multiple indian languages that call india bharat or bharatam, but if they say bharat while talking in english, that is absolutely a hindu nationalist no questions asked
please do your due diligence. read up on hindutva. hindu nationalists have already started making gains in the united states, thanks to rich upper caste nris. do not fall for propaganda

im asking this out of pure ignorance but I've always wondered how does hinduism handle people who are not hindu? i know Christianity is essentially 'be the right kind of christian or go to hell' (so much as to beleive that Jewish people are literally devils, for example) but i was wondering how hinduism deals w people who are in proximity but not of the same religion. also if a dalit or lower caste person converts from hinduism to another religion, how does that affect thier life and how they're treated? appreciate your answer if u feel like explaining ^__^
it depends, in some parts of the country the non hindu has the same status as the lower caste dalit by default – so exclusion but in most places its a detente where religious and caste endogamy is strictly maintained. housing and employment discrimination is v common. its actually much harder to marry under the special mariage act and violence against interfaith and intercaste couples by their own families is common. in 2023, the muslim is the designated enemy of the state. the christian was fooled by the british and/or money to give up their culture or is literally a foreign agent. if you're looking for a textual answer, the equivalent of the "infidel," there isn’t really one because the streamlining of the canonical religious texts and construction of the hindu is recent. hinduism has aimed to appropriate instead of convert.
in modern india, legally anyone who is not a christian or a muslim is treated as a hindu. you are hindu by default in india to the state, governed by hindu codes for marriage and inheritance. for indigenous tribals it is a matter of coercing their children to feel shame at the (state sponsored but outsourced to private religious groups, love privatisation!!!) residential schools about their animist practices and making them worship the proper gods. for sikhs, jains and buddhists their is marginally more toleration. but they are basically seen as wayward hindu sects. this does change when they're in conflict with the majority in a way that resists "national cohesion" – see sikh pogroms in 1984 and the recent moves against sikhism due to the invocation of khalistan in the farmers protests. when dalits convert to buddhism many right wingers will invoke the spectre of predatory conversions.
since you are supposed to be hindu by default, christians and muslims are then seen as invasive outsiders and conversions are regulated very strictly by many states. it is historically true that christian missionaries brought christianity as part of a broader civilising mission, but imo it says something really depressing about hinduism that its epithets for christians is 'ricebag converts' bc people apparently converted for a bag of rice. islam's foothold in the continent is older, accompanying immigration from the west as well as the sultanate and the mughals. returning these christians and muslims to the fold, or "ghar wapsi" is a major project of the hindutva right. note that india is home to one of the world's largest populations of muslims (~200mil).
lower caste dalits have long converted to christianity and islam but caste violence follows them there anyway. caste may have textual origins in religion and focus on ritual purity but it is a socioeconomic form of subjugation. this means that while still subject to caste violence, dalit christians and muslims will be denied redressal through state protections like legislations against anti caste violence or reservations because those are restricted to hindu dalits.

To put this in context, Sikh extremist bombed an Air Canada 182 passenger jet bound for India. https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/air-india-flight-182-bombing
During Covid, Sikh's raised money here in Canada to send over to India for their farmer's strike against Modi during the harshest lockdowns. Indian Police officers died during the farmers protests over in India, but Trudeau did nothing to stop the fundraisers here or the money going to India, but he did lock up the peaceful Trucker's protest participants in Ottawa.
For all his tough talk to Russia, Canada has starved it's military into the ground, if he's talking tough on the world stage, he doesn't have a leg to stand on.
Sikhs regularly fly banners on the 401 to raise awareness for their homeland, as they want to secede from India. If they're that involved in Indian politics, can anyone seriously think these people are invested emotionally to be Canadians first or assimilate? So Trudeau has blown his own credibility and Canada's too with India. Probably time for him to go on the magical, pompous un-reality tour with Prince Harry, as neither of them seem to be listening to others or living in reality.

As a member of the Punjabi Sikh diaspora, this is huge news. The BJP, a party that has consistently acted in ways that betray its assertion that it is not anti-Sikh, got no seats in Punjab, a majority-Sikh state.
Additionally, Punjabi voters voted in a political prisoner as a member of the Lok Sabha, which is a really big deal. Amritpal Singh was detained under the National Security Act for advocating for the Khalistani separatist movement. Being charged under the NSA, whether the charges are real or fake, is a method the Indian government uses to shut down dissent through linking it to a banned ideology.
Right now, it’s the 40th anniversary of Operation Bluestar, in which the Indian military killed civilians on pilgrimage to the Golden Temple. This led Indira Gandhi’s Sikh bodyguards to assassinate her and resulted in the 1984 anti-Sikh genocide. The 1984 genocide has still not been officially recognized as a genocide by any nation, despite meeting the criteria; there has been no justice for its victims.
There have also been Sikh political prisoners in jail for over 30 years. An internet shutdown was used during the manhunt for Amritpal Singh. (Internet blackouts a tool that India also uses in Kashmir.) The BJP’s agricultural policies were met with mass protests that resulted in policy brutality against peaceful farmers.
All of this has impacted how Punjab votes, and it means that they’ve voted against the BJP and for candidates who have campaigned on the solutions to their issues, and that means no more Hindu nationalist support.
Voting matters. Voting is how Punjabis, and especially Punjabi Sikhs, were able to make their voices heard this election. Their Lok Sabha members may not be able to do much to fix the issues in Punjab caused by the national government, but at least there is hope that they’ll be able to prevent it from getting worse.
take a moment to read indian election news!! india has voted against the ruling fascist party. while they will resume government they will need to forge alliances and have lost multiple strong members of parliament. and all this despite them controlling the media and jailing their opposers! this is SUCH an important reminder that u shld never ever underestimate the power of a vote
#i once got sent pro-bjp propaganda because i said i don’t support the internet blackouts in kashmir#but as a member of the punjabi sikh diaspora how could i not condemn it?#anyhow THIS ELECTION IS A HUGE DEAL#india#politics#punjab

[ad_1] By Anjali Sharma NEW YORK – Michael Kugelman, a US-based foreign policy expert and the Director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center, on Tuesday drawn a bleak comparison between India’s deteriorating ties with Canada and its long-standing strained relations with Pakistan. India and Canada continue to escalate, Kugelman said, “One could not have imagined that things in this relationship could get worse, but they have.” Kugelman highlighted the seriousness of the situation, noting that the diplomatic fallout between the two countries bears striking similarities to the Indo-Pakistan relationship. “This is a relationship that’s now hit rock bottom and indeed, looking at recent developments, certainly is reminiscent of India’s relations with Pakistan in terms of these extremely serious allegations being made, in terms of senior diplomats being expelled, as well as the use of blistering language in government statements, it’s all there and of course, the core allegation that we’re hearing from India that Canada is sheltering and sponsoring anti-India terrorists. This is what we’re used to hearing India say about Pakistan,” he pointed out. Kugelman also spoke the internal political dynamics in Canada that have contributed to the diplomatic rift, saying, “There are a lot of factors at play here. Certainly, one could acknowledge the relevance of the domestic political realities in Canada.” He noted that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s comments on India’s internal matters, particularly his support for the farmers’ protests against agricultural laws, had sparked tensions. “It is notable that PM Justin Trudeau has made some comments on internal developments in India that one would not expect a Canadian PM to make, such as commenting and expressing support for farmers protesting against Indian agricultural laws,” Kugelman added. Canada denies harboring extremists or terrorists, Kugelman pointed out that India remains firm in its disagreement. “Canada does not consider that it is harbouring extremists and terrorists, and certainly this is something that India very rigorously disagrees about,” he said. Kugelman emphasised that these differing views are central to the ongoing diplomatic breakdown between the two countries, adding, “This comes back to the issue of there being so many factors at play. This government in Canada has taken a series of decisions that include expressing support for Sikhs in India, in terms of the farmers’ movement in India.” He noted India’s specific frustration with Justin Trudeau, saying, “I was struck how in this long statement there was indeed an explicit reference to Justin Trudeau and his government… That reflects long-standing anger in New Delhi about Justin Trudeau and the government’s actions and politics that have contributed to this decision. New Delhi feels that Canada does not want to address those.” India expelled six Canadian diplomats hours after it summoned Canada’s Charge d’Affaires Stewart Wheeler and conveyed that the “baseless targeting” of the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats and officials in Canada was completely unacceptable. Canada also expelled six Indian diplomats after police collected evidence they were part of an Indian government “campaign of violence,” news agency Reuters reported citing a Canadian government source earlier. India “strongly” rejected a diplomatic communication from Canada suggesting that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats were “persons of interest” in an investigation and termed it as “preposterous imputations” and part of the political agenda of the Justin Trudeau government. India said Prime Minister Trudeau’s hostility to India has long been in evidence and his government has consciously provided space to violent extremists and terrorists “to harass, threaten and intimidate Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada.” The ties between India and Canada soured after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in
a parliamentary address last year, claimed that he has “credible allegations” of India’s hand in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Nijjar, designated a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey in June 2023. India strongly denied the allegations, calling them “absurd” and “motivated.” It also accused Canada of giving space to extremist and anti-India elements in their country. People of the Book so-called Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, etc. cannot kno... People of the Book so-called Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, etc. cannot know why Allah is called Allah. https://youtu.be/i4wNRe-8Z-8 Why a Mullah cannot know Al-Raheem most merciful Allah but Satan Al-djmar Al-Aksa of terror only? Allah stands for “NOOR” that is not visible to the two naked eyes but to the third eye of “logical reasoning” of discerning intellect, which is common sense that Brews Logo, His Word, the very Face of Allah. That is why the Good News of the Birth of Jesus called “Yahshua”; Yah from Yahweh and Shua or Shiva means the first primordial Adam, was broken to the illiterate Shepherds and Farmers. Thus, Mary was sired by Khudah, the Lord of Creation. He is also known as Yahweh; Yah = to Sire and Weh means of “Him”. Thus Mary was the Surrogate Mother of Jesus and Joseph of the Judah tribe, the Foster father. Now, the men of letters at the Universities and Colleges are taught by men and they are judged by men for their degrees that how good the person is in memorising or what is written here and there. Thus, what is written is corruptible and all their debate centre around the spiritually blind guides not knowing that the Gospel Truth called Logo, you get only if you are capable of logical reasoning. People who are capable of logical reasoning are the illiterate honest to God people such as the Shepherds and Farmers who always have God in their hearts and not Mammon as the hireling University Professors and Dog-Collared Priests in the Churches are. The present Churches governed by the Church Elders, who are demanding sugar-coated sermons from their Priests are no better than the Synagogues the Rabbis governed – Matt 13v52. In fact, such hireling Priests are the Wolf Temple Priests, the Husbandmen of the Winepress, the Temple that coined the corrupt moral laws in sheep’s clothing. In Jesus, we are solitary serving humble roving Preachers explaining the Gospel Truth that hurts the stooges of these hireling Dog-Collared Priests and the University Professors of Theology because Gospel is not for everyone but for those who are living in the holy spirit, which is common sense. A typical example is Church of England headed not by Christ Jesus but by the King and his Priests happily glorify the dead soldiers who died for Mammon to be proclaimed that they glorified God. Such spiritually blind men of the dead letters have interfaith indicating that there are many Gods and engage their stooges in interfaith and the sectarian riots between the Catholics and Protestants, Christians and Muslim, etc. My father had this Gospel Truth and he saved our village from attack by 2000 Mohammedans that they are Muslims and we are Sikhs but when when my father explained to this head that we tribal people are going to kill each other and not the spiritual selves Muslim and Sikh, he became our best friend in Allah and told his attacking fanatics to look after us as their Guests in Allah and so they did. Thus, Ask, Seek and Knock is the Way to our Supernatural Father Allah, Elohim, Parbrahm, etc. and build confidence in yourself through logical reasoning only, the Narrow Road to the Palace of our Royal Father Al-Raheem Allah. Thus, Allah is from the Base “Ilah”, or first be born of water then you will be born of Spirit Al-Ilah = Allah. Thus, Ba-Ilah to Ba-Allah and from La-Ilah to most high Satan Al-Djmar Al-Aksa, the devil fanatics of Mullahs that exploit people in the name of religion. President Morsi of Egypt was a typical example but the ever-faithful sons of Abraham put him in the jail. Intuition - Taught by God:- Circumcision is the Tribal Mark or Covenant of Abraham to Isaac and his seed ONLY. Angel Stephen warned them not to make fake sons of Abraham but they killed him. https://youtu.be/hhJIzWLxdAQ The Circumcision of the flesh was so much floated by the Temple Priests that it has become OBSOLETE. https://youtu.be/oOqHQc3kjA8 The Promised Land belongs to the Faithful sons of Abraham and not to fake "Saltless" Jews outwardly who cannot build their tribal "Covenant" with Abraham. https://youtu.be/5vpu-FYuBuM Return under Moses faithful to Abraham, and Yahweh “Wheat” plants whilst under Christ Jesus just the opposite “Tares” – Matt 13v24-30. https://youtu.be/cKvnXH538WE Allah is NOOR and you cannot apply Sharia Laws that bind you on NOOR that sets you FREE. This Islam is not of Allah called INSHALLAH but of Mullahs called Inshmullah. Our Khokhar Jatt Chaudhry Saddam Hussein Khokhar Jatt was executed by the American Jews. honestly there's just something about the way that modi himself is shown in the media that rubs me the wrong way. i don't really watch indian news as i am currently leaving elsewhere but my father does and from what i notice very few media channels actually criticize modi and his bad decisions.
most of the time all i see is praise for him while anything that goes even slightly against him is rare to come across. i know that there are a few news channels that do though. and it's been like that since the first time he became pm.
i lived in india during that time and I was heavily influenced by the media/my school to view him as this ideal "perfect" pm and i don't think much has changed in that matter. like for example my 4 year old cousin has nothing to say but praise for him and it just is like super duper weird to me.
also like that anon mentioned him being very hindu nationalist it is one of the reasons that i do not like modi. not only is he super oppressive towards Muslims he is like that towards Sikhs as well. and the biggest proof i have for that is Muslim history being removed from textbooks. it may seem like that has nothing to do with Sikhs but it's the fact that Sikh history has deep roots in the Muslim rule of India.
also i do not even want to get started on the shit he has done to panjab/panjabis becasue that is so fucking much. also the ignoring of the blue star operation it has been 40 years and there is still nothing being said about it.
and when the kisan andolan was going on it was all up and in very one's face and it's still like that it's just ignored more. the way that he was acting? the way that he was treating the farmers that have been feeding indians? as someone who's family has a famer background it just added more reasons to dislike his rule.
and then there are his party members... like kangana? really? after all the shit she did and said against kisans during their protest? bjp is just super iffy vibes for me
i'm not the best with words so i don't even know if this makes sense but yeah anyways
— 🧸
the point is, there is criticism towards modi, although way less than the praise that is thrown around no one, i mean no one, addresses the actual issues. i don't think our school ever focused on politics which is my many of my friends and i were and are still so disconnected from all this. so one thing is people definitely need to talk more.
i'm not really educated enough to comment on the sikh history in india, but modi actually has oppressive behaviour towards anyone who doesn't follow hinduism. and the whole kisan andolan was such a turn off for me like, aren't these people his majority voters? it's kind of pathetic how his entire agenda revolves around giving benefits to farmers but he ignores every single issue faced by them.
and his party members ... i'm not even going to say anything. he was literally promoting a rapist it only proves that he doesn't care about anything that's happening in the country as long as he's winning.

Shival Swarup must step down.
23 August 1987, Hello India
"I call for the suspension and prosecution of Shival Swarup who were in charge of the police officers who assaulted and beat Mr Gyattrat Singh. It is unacceptable that the punishment for a passionate farmer who passed the curfer is to be beaten alive. This is a farmer of Punjab, whom we, regardless if you are a Sikh or Hindu, who has been unfairly treated by the central government. Furthermore, a corrupt government who is willing even to assault a holy site such as the Golden Temple, can continue to invade and attack those of Hindus as well. This corrupt central government is a problem for all of us, the Punjab population. Rest assured, the Akali Dal and Khalistan movement is not an extremist one. We count on the unity of both Sikhs and Hindus, and your support to sound out the injustices of the government and to call for more transparency within the police force. I applaud the efforts of those who are fighting for justice already, and call for the unity within Punjab of Sikhs and Hindus, to stand up against this government. Fear not, for I will join you in your protests, and will constantly negotiate with the Border forces and Police force to allow for peaceful protests which every religion and movement has a right to. Let us stand together in the fight for justice and transparency"

Farmers Movement: From the Frontlines at Shambhu Barrier
As the farmers’ movement continues in India, Baljeet Singh, a dedicated volunteer with Sikh charity foundation and humanitarian aid organization, UNITED SIKHS, from Ropar, finds himself stationed at the Shambhu barrier. This location has become a significant setting for farmers who are peacefully protesting against Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and demanding the government’s fulfillment of its commitments made in 2021. Baljeet, amidst the chaos, shares a vulnerable and heartbreaking account of the events that transpired at the frontline.

[ad_1] As a city of tents sprang up outside India’s capital city New Delhi in December 2020, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau waded into a debate around protests taking place halfway across the world. From Ottawa, he promised that Canada would “always stand up” for the right to peacefully protest.“We believe in the importance of dialogue and that’s why we have reached out through multiple means directly to the Indian authorities to highlight our concerns,” he said.Trudeau was responding to concerns among Canada’s significant Sikh diaspora that the Indian government was cracking down on farmers protesting a new agricultural policy. His comments were met with a sharp reaction from India, where the government summoned the Canadian ambassador over the issue. This diplomatic spat made headlines, and was just one example of how the effects of domestic politics and policies in India are spurring frustrations, fear and what one expert called “mounting tensions” among members of the diaspora communities in Canada. Story continues below advertisement And in the days since Trudeau rose in the House of Commons saying Canadian authorities are investigating “potential links” between agents of the Indian government and the murder of Canadian Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, there has been renewed focus on the challenges of negotiating an evolving relationship with India. In particular, how should Canada navigate ties with an aspiring global superpower in the years since the Indian farmers’ movement galvanized the diaspora? 'Mounting tensions' within Indian diaspora In 2020 and 2021, Indian farmers, mostly led by Sikh farmers from the northern state of Punjab, camped outside of New Delhi for over a year. They were demanding the repeal of a series of laws they said gave greater control to giant corporations over farming.Meanwhile, thousands of people took part in solidarity marches in Canadian cities. Story continues below advertisement Major cities like Toronto and Vancouver saw members of the Sikh diaspora leading protests, with an indefinite sit-in outside the Indian high commission. Canadian politicians from Trudeau and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to then-Conservative leader Erin O’Toole expressed solidarity with protesters.“I think diaspora communities have always cared about politics at home,” said Sanjay Ruparelia, Jarislowsky Democracy Chair at Toronto Metropolitan University. The Indian diaspora in Canada has been divided, between those who are ardent supporters of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and those who oppose him. “Many would describe him (Modi) as a polarizing figure,” Ruparelia said. “Those who support him support him avidly. They champion him and think of him as the greatest leader post-independence India has had. Those who oppose him oppose both his government, his actions, but also the ideology of the Hindu Nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”Those divisions in India, particularly along religious lines, have made their way into the diaspora.“Members of the Sikh community say that the divisive politics is what they have been confronted with, that they are trying to resist, and that is feeding into the conflict. And I think that’s the worrying thing as we see there’s mounting tensions within the Indian diaspora,” Ruparelia said.Prominent political voices in India have also criticized Trudeau for what they call “vote-bank politics” and have accused Canada of not taking concerns around “Khalistani extremists” operating on Canadian soil seriously. Story continues below advertisement On Wednesday, the Indian government issued an advisory for Indian nationals in Canada in view of “growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada” and Indian media reports have said “anti-India slogans” and slogans against Modi were written on the walls of some Hindu temples in Canada.Just days before Nijjar’s murder, a Sikh parade in Brampton, Ont., displayed a flotilla on the assassination of former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi. Indira Gandhi, India’s first and only female prime minister, was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards in 1984 after she ordered an attack on the Golden Temple. She had said that Sikh militants were camped out in the Golden Temple, which is one of Sikhism’s most revered sites. The Indian government reacted sharply, saying this was not good for the relationship between the countries.Canada’s ambassador in India, Cameron MacKay, was quick to condemn the parade.“There is no place in Canada for hate or for the glorification of violence. I categorically condemn these activities.”But many diaspora groups say the growing tensions reflect bigger worries about influence in Canadian society and politics. 0:34 World Sikh Organization of Canada calls on Canadian government to protect activists facing threats Trending Now RCMP officer killed, two wounded and suspect shot in Coquitlam, B.C. Billy Chemirmir, accused of murdering 22 women, killed by cellmate in jail What is Hindu nationalism? In particular, some groups have pointed to Hindu nationalism, which promotes the idea that India is essentially a nation of and for Hindus. Groups and individuals associated with the ideology have been implicated in violence against minorities. Experts believe there has been a rise in such violence, particularly aimed at Muslims, since Modi took office in 2014. Story continues below advertisement Human Rights Watch, in its 2023 World Report, said about India, “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government continued its systematic discrimination and stigmatization of religious and other minorities, particularly Muslims. BJP supporters increasingly committed violent attacks against targeted groups.”In one such example last month, a railway police officer in India shot dead three Muslim passengers and his superior officer. He proclaimed that only those who supported Modi had a right to stay in India.“Over the past year, diasporic South Asian and other civil society organizations have been sounding alarm bells and calling on the Trudeau government and the opposition to pay heed to the dangerous build-up of support for the Hindu ethnonationalism of the current government of India on Canadian soil. But these alerts have gone unheeded,” a statement prepared by the South Asian Diaspora Action Collective (SADAC), and signed by several other organizations, said.SADAC pointed to several incidents they say indicate a growing Hindu nationalist sentiment in Canada, including allegations of death threats against a Toronto filmmaker. In November last year, a Liberal MP also faced questions and concerns from some activists for attending an event raising a flag associated with the far-right organization Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The group is closely associated with Modi and his party and has been criticized for its views on minorities, particularly Muslims, in India. Story continues below advertisement A member of the group assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, and the BBC last year described the group as ” the ideological fountainhead of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”In March, the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) and the World Sikh Organization (WSO) issued a joint report that said the RSS was actively operating on Canadian soil, as well as in the U.S. and Europe. That report, which stressed that the RSS’s ideologies “in no way represents the diversity of the hundreds of millions of Hindus who have no interest in adopting the Hindutva ideology,” urged policymakers to pay attention.“The presence of this supremacist ideology in Canada is deeply concerning,” the report said.“It is thus time for Canadians to carefully study and track the growth of a movement that disseminates hate here in Canada.” [ad_2]

When Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this week accused the Indian government of involvement in the fatal shooting of a Canadian Sikh activist, it was perhaps the first time a liberal, Western democracy had made such a claim about New Delhi. Trudeau was backed by the Canadian opposition leader, Pierre Poilievre, who called the alleged actions an “outrageous affront” to Canadian sovereignty. India has rejected the accusations, but on Tuesday, Trudeau doubled down: “We are not looking to provoke or escalate. We are simply laying out the facts as we understand them,” he said.
Earlier this month, senior Canadian intelligence officials visited India before the G-20 summit in New Delhi to share the evidence they had gathered about the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. Trudeau raised the issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a meeting on the sidelines of the summit. Afterward, New Delhi issued a brusque statement noting its concerns about “continuing anti-India activities of extremist elements in Canada.” That likely gave Trudeau a sense about how India intended to treat the allegations once they were made public.
This week, Canada expelled a senior Indian diplomat, Pavan Kumar Rai, who represented India’s foreign intelligence agency in Ottawa. In response, India threw out the head of intelligence at Canada’s embassy in New Delhi. On Thursday, India suspended visa services for Canadian citizens until further notice, marking a serious escalation in the clash.
India and Canada’s shared values and people-to-people ties should make them natural partners, but that has not been the case under Modi and Trudeau. Bilateral relations have been frayed for some time, in part because India believes that Canada has been sympathetic toward the Sikh separatist movement, while Canada has said India was interfering in its domestic politics. Trudeau’s allegations this week caused the two countries to reach a breaking point. Anticipating the geopolitical effects, Trudeau briefed Canada’s closest allies about the case before his announcement, including the leaders of the United States and the United Kingdom. The two countries issued a statement of concern about the incident.
In New Delhi, concerns about the return of Sikh separatism have long fed insecurities about India’s sovereignty, and those anxieties have grown under Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Hindu nationalist regime. Modi’s top security czar is a former intelligence chief, Ajit Doval, who led a successful campaign against violent Sikh separatists in the 1980s. Canadian Sikh support for the 2020 farmers’ protests against Modi’s government no doubt stoked Doval’s own fears. Many of the demonstrators were Sikhs. India’s security establishment has allegedly violated international law in a few high-profile cases abroad. None have taken place in a country like Canada, a treaty ally of the United States and the United Kingdom.
Trudeau’s allegations could help Modi domestically by feeding into a nationalist narrative that takes pride in him as a strong leader, but wasting diplomatic energy containing the fallout of this fracas will only distract India from other major challenges—namely the one posed by its rival China. If India continues to look at the world through the lens of its intelligence operatives rather than holding them accountable for their failures, it runs the risk of going down a very dark path.
Simmering tensions between India and Canada had already come to the fore before Trudeau’s public accusations. At a press conference in New Delhi in June, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said, “If anybody has a complaint, we have a complaint about Canada … the space they are giving to Khalistanis and violent extremists.” A few days later, he added that New Delhi had made it clear that if activities in Canada threatened Indian national security “we will respond.” This veiled threat came 10 days after Nijjar was shot dead as he left the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia.
At the time, Nijjar’s name was relatively unknown in India or Canada. He moved to Canada from India’s Sikh-majority state of Punjab in 1997 and became president of the religious body that runs the Sikh gurdwara in Surrey in 2020. That November, India declared Nijjar a terrorist. Its federal counterterrorism agency accused him of trying to radicalize the Sikh diaspora in the service of creating an independent Sikh state known as Khalistan. In India, Sikh separatism peaked in the 1980s, losing steam after Indian security forces crushed a violent insurgency, which was supported by Pakistan. In Punjab, the movement no longer has a support base, although New Delhi occasionally hypes it as a threat.
A vocal backer of Khalistan, Nijjar upset India’s government last fall when he organized a campaign in Brampton, Ontario, to hold a symbolic referendum on the Khalistan issue. Canadian laws do not prohibit nonviolent support for Sikh separatism, while India has wide-ranging laws on sedition and against terror that make it very difficult. In India, the ideology of the BJP’s parent organization also considers Sikhs to be Hindus—an assertion rejected by Sikh leaders, whose community has politically opposed and democratically defeated Modi’s party in Punjab. To explain why Sikhs oppose the ruling party, India’s regime has turned the pro-Khalistan movement as a bogeyman.
India’s security establishment, meanwhile, is still grappling with the memory of the long-dead pro-Khalistan insurgency. Doval, whose career highlight was leading security operations against Sikh separatists in the 1980s, still harbors apprehensions about their revival. The external response to the monthslong farmers’ protests in 2020 has shaped India’s attitude toward Canada and the United Kingdom: that they are soft toward Sikh separatists. BJP leaders tried to discredit the protesting farmers as pro-Khalistan activists. When the Canadian government issued a statement against some of the harsh policing against the farmers, New Delhi accused Ottawa of meddling in its internal affairs.
Aside from Nijjar, three other prominent Sikh separatist activists have died under mysterious circumstances abroad this year: Avtar Singh Khanda in the United Kingdom and Paramjit Singh Panjwar and Harmeet Singh in Pakistan. Sikh separatist groups allege that Indian intelligence operatives were responsible for their deaths. Under Doval, the security establishment has recently been in the spotlight over two high-profile cases. The first was the capture and rendition of Sheikha Latifa, the daughter of the ruler of Dubai, by Indian special forces off the coast of Goa in March 2018, returning her to her family against her will. The second the attempted abduction of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi in Antigua in May 2021.
Modi’s party has decried previous governments for making India a “soft state” and for not emulating the example of Israel—or its imagination of the country—of taking the war to the adversary through spectacular covert action abroad. It is not clear if the mythology of the Mossad, Israel’s successful and infamously ruthless national intelligence agency, is driving Indian action today, but many Hindu nationalists have framed these alleged actions as evidence of a strong state under Modi. Perhaps they forget that Israel undertakes such operations in countries such as Iran, which have little international credibility and few allies. By contrast, Canada is a member of the G-7, a NATO founder, and part of the exclusive Five Eyes intelligence alliance.
Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States each issued dutiful statements of concern over Trudeau’s recent allegations. However, India’s importance as a partner in countering China in the Indo-Pacific means that these other Western countries will remain soft on Modi. Despite mounting criticism, the Biden administration has overlooked credible evidence of democratic backsliding and poor treatment of religious minorities under BJP rule under Modi. The United States has decided that its convergent interests with India against China take precedence over its professed values. When it comes to Trudeau’s allegations, those interests are bound to trump the United States’ shared values with Canada.
India and Canada share historical ties dating to India’s colonial era. Canada is home to one of the largest diasporas of Indian heritage in the world, at nearly 1.4 million, and is India’s second-biggest overseas study destination. Sikhs now form a larger share of Canada’s national population (2.1 percent) than India’s (1.7 percent). If the two countries have reached a new low in their relationship, it is because India has changed its direction under Modi, whose vision of a Hindu majoritarian state has emboldened nationalists abroad.
In Australia, Queensland state police released documents this week that suggest that Hindus defaced a Hindu temple wall to divert attention toward pro-Khalistan activists. Last year, riots against Muslims in Leicester, England, were blamed on right-wing Hindu nationalist groups. An Indian government statement condemned the “violence perpetrated against the Indian community in Leicester and vandalization of premises and symbols of Hindu religion” without acknowledging violence against Muslims. According to a U.S. lawsuit, a Hindu sect closely associated with Modi trafficked workers from India and forced them into labor at Hindu temples in five U.S. states.
In hushed tones and classified documents, Canadian officials have also complained of Hindu nationalist overreach. A 2018 report prepared for Canadian deputy ministers attending a national security retreat warned that Indian Canadians were among those at risk of “being influenced, overtly or covertly, by foreign governments with their own agendas.” Canada’s Sikh community forms part of the senior leadership of every political party. Sikhs in Canada have historically supported Trudeau’s Liberal Party, and the prime minister’s minority government now survives on the support of the New Democratic Party, headed by Jagmeet Singh, a Sikh. In 2013, India denied a visa to Singh in 2013 for pursuing an “insidious agenda of disturbing the social fabric of India.” New Delhi also sees Trudeau himself as soft on Sikh separatists because of his continuing focus on catering to their grievances.
Domestic politics in India play an equally important role in shaping New Delhi’s stance toward Ottawa, as Modi’s government heads into a national election next year. The Indian leader has always campaigned on a tough national security agenda, and Trudeau’s allegations could favor his strongman image. If so, the diplomatic effort spent containing the fallout of the accusations—while it would be better used to deal with China—would be a small price to pay for Modi.
However, intelligence agencies and operatives have an important role in ensuring a country’s national security. India’s have made tragic blunders in recent years, failing to warn about China’s sudden ingress into Indian territory in 2020 and failing to prevent a suicide bomber from killing 40 security personnel in 2019. It is high time they are held accountable for these failures. India can no longer approach the world through the eyes of its intelligence agents. Not changing course could be more costly and consequential than the kerfuffle with Canada.
In recent years, Russian President Vladimir Putin remains the only leader known to order an assassination in a Western democracy, when Russian operatives fatally poisoned a Russian defector in London in 2018. Pakistan’s intelligence agencies were allegedly behind the mysterious killings of Baloch separatist leaders in Sweden and Canada in 2020. Canada has not made its evidence public, but it has brought unwanted attention to India’s audacious approach toward its foes. Whatever the predilections of India’s security establishment, Modi cannot afford to be seen in the same league as Putin and Pakistan’s rogue generals—certainly not as he proclaims India to be a Vishwaguru, or a teacher-master to the world.

I'm sorry what are you on exactly? Sikh friends? The choice of words reeks of Americanism. Let's take the state of Punjab, shall we? Here's their national elections over the years:
and here's their state elections:
It goes back and forth between Akali Dal and INC, and now AAP. The major dip, of course, being post-1984, riots and massacres which the party is 100% culpable for. Nobody here is pretending INC is pure or perfect or even competent - I don't like them and I don't like that I have to vote for them, but they're what's there, and whatever else they'll do, they'll protect democratic institutions and reverse some of the damage caused.
While we're on Sikh friends, you know who Punjab farmers definitely won't be voting for this year? The people who brought the farm laws that sparked two major protests bigger than any the nation has seen!
Punjab goes to the polls on June 1. Other places with a high Sikh population, such as Delhi and Haryana, have polls on May 25. Again, voting is not an endorsement. Voting is not an act of commitment. It is a temporary, pragmatic act of democratic expression. Use it to uproot the fascism from this country.
the elections start today, and will go on all the way till june. it's not gonna happen, but i really, really hope that we've woken up enough as a nation to vote the fascists out.

Hireling Robed Antichrists work for Mammon. How could they tell you abou... Hireling Robed Antichrists work for Mammon. How could they tell you about God? God Himself Teaches you. https://youtu.be/VPypjSB4b4A Holy Gospel of our SUPERNATURAL FATHER of our supernatural “souls” Elohim, Allah, ParBrahm, etc., delivered by the first Anointed Christ, which in my native language Punjabi, we call Satguru Jesus of the highest living God Elohim, Allah, Parbrahm, etc. that dwells within His most beautiful living Temple of God created by the greatest artist demiurge Potter, the lord of the visible Nature Yahweh, Brahma, Khudah, etc. and it is called Harmandir or “Emmanuel” if you are not “greedy” according to Christ Rajinder:- The definition of the Antichrist is hardly known to any. In this Dark Age, you are taught by God Himself within you. So, you listen to everyone and vet them with the holy spirit, which is common sense called Surti in Punjabi. That is why the Good News of the birth of Jesus was broken by the Angels to the illiterate Shepherds and Farmers who appreciated His Birth and not the staunch University Professors at the Jerusalem University, the Winepress coining corrupted moral laws and hated Christ Jesus the Most. So, we do not believe in what is written here and there as it is corruptible. That is why Gospel is BRAND NEW CLOTH untouched by the human hands. The Old Testament is highly corrupted by the writers to suit their whims, which is GREED. Christ Jesus and his second coming Satguru Nanak of India have introduced to us our Supernatural Spiritual Father Elohim, Allah, Parbrahm, etc. through logical reasoning called Logo and Logo is His Word, the Very Face of God. So, think logically to PERCEIVE the Very Face of your Great Teacher God. Thus, God is perceived on an individual basis and you cannot pass the Gospel Treasures from one person to the other; the Parable of the Ten Virgins. So, these intermediary with funny dresses to impress you especially the East Europeans, they are ANTICHRISTS. Remember Satguru = Christ Nanak Said, "I could be TRUE - NANAK HOSI BHI SUCH". Here is a typical example to test whether a person is capable of the logical reasoning or not. Ask the person to tell you how many Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, etc. died during the sectarian riots? The answer is "ZERO" as they were never born, then how could they die? The tribal people of Judah, Levi, Jatt, Tarkhan, Khatri, etc. were born and they led by the robed Blind Guides, the Antichrists, they died during the Holocaust. Remember that the German Tribal man Hitler killed such "sinners" during the Holocaust and so did the English when they were not Non-Tribal Labour and Conservative. For further details, watch my other videos. This is the taste of the Gospel Truth or know what you see in Adam then what is not seen of invisible God would be known to you. Thus, spiritually blind once-born people are the victims of these Robed Hireling Dog-Collared Priest Antichrists working for Mammon and Slaves to the Church elders, how could they tell you about God but Mammon and so, they cannot give your account to God but Mammon. The hireling Rabbis did get the sins against the demiurge Yahweh, Brahma, Khudah, etc. forgiven at PASSOVER.
