Whether you’re drawn to its cultural heritage, natural beauty, or adventurous spirit, Cambodia has it all.
Here’s Travel Sense Asia’s guide to the Top 10 Things to Do in Cambodia.
1. Discover the Timeless Charm of Angkor Archaeological Park
No trip to Cambodia is complete without exploring the Angkor Archaeological Park near Siem Reap. Spanning over 400 square kilometers, this UNESCO World Heritage Site showcases the grandeur of the Khmer Empire.
At the heart of the park is Angkor Wat, an architectural masterpiece celebrated for its intricate carvings and spiritual ambiance. Witnessing the sunrise over its majestic spires is an unforgettable experience. Other must-see temples include Bayon, with its iconic stone faces, and Ta Prohm, where ancient ruins merge seamlessly with towering trees.
Insider Tip: Start your visit early to avoid crowds and enjoy the cool morning air.
2. Experience Life on Tonlé Sap Lake
Tonlé Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, is an ecological and cultural treasure. Its floating villages, like Kampong Phluk, offer a glimpse into a way of life deeply connected to the water. A boat tour will take you past stilted homes, floating markets, and vibrant ecosystems.
3. Explore Phnom Penh’s Rich History and Culture
Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s bustling capital, is a city of contrasts where tradition meets modernity. Begin your exploration at the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, stunning examples of Khmer architecture. The National Museum provides further insights into Cambodia’s artistic and historical heritage.
To understand the country’s recent past, visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. These sites serve as poignant reminders of the resilience of the Cambodian people.
In the evening, stroll along the riverside promenade and enjoy the lively atmosphere of cafes, restaurants, and night markets.
4. Relax on Cambodia’s Gorgeous Beaches
Cambodia’s coastline is a haven for beach lovers. Sihanoukville serves as the gateway to idyllic islands such as:
Koh Rong: Known for its vibrant nightlife and bioluminescent waters.
Koh Rong Samloem: Perfect for those seeking peace and serenity.
These islands offer activities like snorkeling, diving, and simply basking in the sun.
5. Uncover Battambang’s Artistic and Historical Treasures
Battambang is a city that combines colonial charm with creative energy. A ride on the Bamboo Train offers a unique way to explore the countryside, while Phnom Sampeau provides stunning views and a look into Cambodia’s complex history.
The city’s vibrant arts scene is also worth exploring. Visit local galleries and workshops to learn about traditional crafts and contemporary Cambodian art.
6. Discover the Serenity of Kampot and Kep
Kampot’s riverside ambiance and lush countryside make it a favorite destination. Tour its renowned pepper plantations, or venture to Bokor National Park for misty mountains and historic ruins.
Nearby Kep is famous for its fresh seafood. Don’t miss the opportunity to savor crab dishes seasoned with Kampot pepper at the local market.
7. Connect with Nature in Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri
For nature enthusiasts, Cambodia’s northeastern provinces are a paradise. Mondulkiri offers ethical elephant sanctuaries where you can observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
Ratanakiri is home to stunning landscapes, including the serene Yeak Laom crater lake and dramatic waterfalls. Trekking opportunities abound, and visits to indigenous communities provide insight into their unique traditions.
8. Visit the Remote Splendor of Preah Vihear Temple
Perched on a mountaintop near the Thai border, Preah Vihear Temple is a testament to Khmer architectural brilliance. Its remote location offers tranquility and sweeping views, making it a rewarding destination for history enthusiasts.
9. Explore Hidden Gems of Cambodia
Beyond the main attractions, Cambodia is full of lesser-known wonders. Banteay Chhmar, an isolated temple complex, captivates visitors with its intricate carvings and peaceful setting. In Kratie, you can spot rare Irrawaddy dolphins in the Mekong River and experience life in a charming river town.
10. Savor the Flavors of Cambodian Cuisine
Cambodian food is a delightful mix of fresh ingredients and bold flavors. Must-try dishes include:
Amok Trey: A creamy fish curry steamed in banana leaves.
Lok Lak: Tender beef stir-fried and served with a tangy lime-pepper sauce.
Nom Banh Chok: A beloved noodle dish served with a fragrant green curry.
For a true culinary adventure, explore the bustling food markets of Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.
Conclusion

How to Choose the Best Angkor Wat Tour Package for Your Luxury Cambodia Adventure
Cambodia is a land of enchanting temples, rich history, and breathtaking landscapes. At the heart of this captivating country lies Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-see destination for travelers worldwide. If you’re planning to explore this iconic site, opting for the right Angkor Wat tour package can make your journey seamless and memorable. Here’s a guide on how to choose the perfect tour package for your trip to Siem Reap and beyond.
1. Understand Your Travel Goals
Before selecting a tour, identify what you want to experience. Are you drawn to the architectural grandeur of Angkor Wat, or do you wish to explore the hidden temples of the Angkor Archaeological Park? If luxury and comfort are priorities, look for a Luxury Cambodia Tour that offers private guides, five-star accommodations, and personalized services to enhance your visit.
2. Research Siem Reap Tour Packages
Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor Wat and other cultural gems. A well-curated Siem Reap tour package should include visits to iconic sites like Ta Prohm, Bayon Temple, and Banteay Srei. Ensure the package includes knowledgeable guides who can provide insights into the history and significance of these temples.
3. Check the Itinerary Details
A good tour package should balance exploration and relaxation. Look for packages that offer a mix of guided tours and free time to explore at your own pace. If you’re aiming for a luxurious experience, ensure the itinerary includes unique activities such as sunrise views at Angkor Wat, private spa treatments, or a traditional Apsara dance performance over dinner.
4. Consider Transportation and Amenities
Luxury travelers often prefer packages that include private transportation, ensuring convenience and comfort. Many Luxury Cambodia tours also offer high-end amenities, such as stays in boutique hotels or resorts, gourmet dining experiences, and tailored excursions.
5. Read Reviews and Compare Options
Finally, compare multiple tour providers and read reviews to ensure quality service. Look for feedback on the guides, accommodations, and overall experience.
With the right Angkor Wat Tour Package or Siem Reap Tour Package, your journey through Cambodia promises to be a blend of awe-inspiring sights and luxurious indulgence, creating memories to last a lifetime.

Advent thoughts.
It's been almost two weeks since my last day of being gainfully employed. Each day, I would wake up dreading the moment when I would suddenly fall victim to anxiety, not knowing when my next payment would come or where it would come from. But here's what I can gather from my spotty 19-year journey of faith: Faith is work but with trust in God. After a long and unsuccessful relationship ended in 2015, I decided to do what I never got to do while saving up for a wedding: travel. I had saved up around RM50,000 by then and after getting a regular gig writing about travel and lifestyle for the NSTP, I thought "Why not?" I started with a solo trip to Kaoshiung in September 2016, then to Melbourne in November 2016, and to Hong Kong and Macau in December 2016. I even rang in the New Year in HK. By 2017, I decided (out of faith) to plan some more travels every other month or so: Hanoi in March, Perth in April, Siem Reap in May, Tokyo in August and Puerto Princesa in September. In addition to enjoying myself and seeing places I'd always wanted to visit, I also wanted to write about them for NSTP -- a way of stewarding the writing talent that I have. I wasn't paid that well then and I was readily expecting to deplete my savings by the end of 2017 just travelling. Surprisingly, new opportunities sprung up as I decided to use my God-given talent well. I was even approached by MPH Publishing to write a book and was invited to give a talk to a group of college students on what it means to follow their dreams. In the end, I didn't end up using any of my savings anyway. God provided for me the whole way, even when I felt like my decision to spend money on travelling was wasteful and selfish (one would always argue that I could've donated to charity instead, right?). Nonetheless, what I've learned from half a lifetime journeying with Christ is that He really wants us to live life to the fullest, and that means living a joyous, gratitude-filled life that's motivated to serve others with our God-given talents. I've learned that I serve God and people best when I'm happy and my cup is filled to the brim.
I intend to do the same next year -- using my God-given talent as a writer and communicator to serve people, and ultimately God, through Kookie Jar. If He calls you to it, He will give you the grace for it. I've had a pretty active prayer life throughout my 19 spotty years as a Christian and I can attest that God loves to say yes to anything and everything -- unless something better can come up from Him saying no. Ever since the age of 21, all I wanted was to find a husband and I had prayed my hardest on this more than anything. By age 36, when my last potential relationship fell through, I was finally ready to accept that perhaps God did want me to be single after all. I sulked for a while asking God what was wrong with me and why couldn't He grant me a prayer that seemed so natural for most people to get. Besides, He had said yes to my more outlandish (and seemingly more unnecessary) prayers before like giving me enough money to travel and giving me a book deal. Why not give me a husband? Nonetheless, I'd witnessed lots of family breakdowns and marriages fall apart during the pandemic. Suddenly, I was thankful that I was spared from the pain. I also realised something about myself that I wasn't honest enough to accept before: I don't really like sharing my space with other people. Therefore, had I been married with children, I would definitely have gone crazy by then.
I never wanted to admit this before as this seemed so selfish and opposed to what good Christians should be. But God has taught me that this is OK, it's just how I am. Not everyone has the gift of hospitality (it is a real gift!) and it's OK coz I still have other things to offer to the Body of Christ.
Last words. I'm not sure what 2025 is going to be like, but in a way not knowing is a good thing as it allows God to work in my life according to His will without me imposing my own ideas on Him. One thing for sure, I want Kookie Jar to be a testament of God's grace in my life. It started with a call 10 years ago, when I decided out of faith, to create a Facebook page for Kookie Jar, offering PR and communications services with only 1 year of experience under my belt. However, God was faithful to reward my tiny faith: by July 2015, I had managed to enjoy RM12,000 in profit, replenishing the savings that I had depleted after I lost my job in December 2014. I'd often look back and wonder how this happened. I have no explanation. Only God.
Today, with an additional 10 years of PR experience under my belt and another 10 years of God's faithfulness as a reference point, I have no reason to doubt that He can indeed do all things far unimaginable (Ephesians 3:20). I can't wait to see Him show up and show off again in my life.

[ad_1] Keisuke Honda in action for Paro FC/Club president Karma JIgme with Honda (Image: Karma Jigme) In the AFC Challenge League Group A fixtures in Thimphu, Bhutan, the local side, Paro FC, garnered much attention on the media and Internet with their star signing, Keisuke Honda. Honda, one of the biggest names in the history of Asian football – a former AC Milan and CSKA Moscow star – who represented the Japanese national team 98 times at the senior level, was a name nobody would have associated with a club in the Bhutan Premier League. Reportedly, Honda signed for Paro on a one-match deal – the AFC Challenge League qualifier against Church Boys FC of Nepal. However, he was seen playing a few league games and was on the scoresheet as well. There wasn’t much information on the Internet regarding this transfer, and the question of how a football God landed in Bhutan, a low-ranked country in world football, remained unanswered. In an attempt to know more about this unique deal, RevSportz reached out to Karma Jigme, president of Paro FC. Here’s how the conversation went. How did Paro FC connect with Keisuke Honda? Jigme: We reached out to Keisuke Honda through our Japanese agent, who knows Honda. We were in search of a high-calibre, left-footed player. Honda, already actively involved in projects to promote football’s growth in different countries, found Paro FC’s vision highly appealing. Paro FC’s commitment to advancing Bhutanese football and creating more opportunities for local players resonated with Honda’s own mission to elevate football in developing regions, cementing a strong connection between both parties. Honda being presented the Paro FC jersey There was speculation that Honda’s club in Cambodia had some players who are currently part of Paro, and that might have influenced the move. Thoughts? Honda, now 37, previously managed the Cambodian national side and also owned a club in Cambodia called Soltilo Angkor, in Siem Reap, that played in the Cambodian 2nd division. The club was discontinued due to lack of sponsorship. Jigme: Yes, we do have one such player – Tomo (Tomoyuki Unno). It might have helped him (Honda) know more about Paro FC. What was the project that attracted Honda to come to Bhutan, and especially Paro FC? Jigme: The project that drew Honda to Bhutan was Paro FC’s goal of raising the standard of Bhutanese football, with a particular focus on the AFC Challenge League. By bringing Honda on board, Paro FC hoped to inspire local players, increase competitive intensity, and enhance fan engagement. Honda’s presence also attracted international attention, helping to highlight the potential of Bhutanese football on a larger stage. The ‘One-Match-Deal’ has been doing the rounds on the Internet with not much clarification. Could you please throw some light on this? Jigme: The one-match contract frequently mentioned in reports refers to Honda’s short-term arrangement to support Paro FC for the AFC Challenge League. While initially a limited engagement, the terms were flexible, allowing Honda to play in multiple matches as his schedule allowed. This arrangement enabled him to participate in the BoB Bhutan Premier League while contributing to Paro FC’s broader project, enhancing the team’s performance and providing local players with a unique learning opportunity. Paro FC players celebrate with Keisuke Honda Could you give us an idea of the financial terms involved in this deal – with the obvious question being Honda’s stature in world football? Jigme: While financial details remain undisclosed, Honda’s remuneration reflected a balanced agreement aligned with his contribution and Paro FC’s financial constraints. His involvement seemed motivated by a commitment to supporting football development rather than financial gain, fitting well with Paro FC’s limited budget for foreign players. Any future projects with Honda? Jigme: Paro FC is open to future collaborations with Honda, considering his strong interest in football development.
Potential future projects could involve coaching, training, or youth development programs. Paro FC envisions initiatives where Honda’s expertise could make a long-lasting impact on Bhutan’s football ecosystem. What would be a normal budget for a club contending for the title? Jigme: For Bhutanese clubs aiming to contend for the league title, a typical seasonal budget ranges between $100,000 and $250,000. This budget covers player salaries, fees for foreign players, training facilities, travel, and match-day expenses. Financial capacities vary among clubs, but top-tier teams often allocate slightly higher budgets to bring in experienced foreign talent. Are the players in the league professionals? Jigme: Not all players in the Bhutan League are full-time professionals. Some players balance football with other jobs or academic pursuits, particularly at clubs with smaller budgets. However, players on title-contending teams, especially those with foreign professionals, are more likely to be in full-time or semi-professional roles. Although the league is moving towards increased professionalism, many Bhutanese players still pursue diverse career paths alongside football. Nestled in northwest Cambodia, Siem Reap is a city that captivates with its mix of ancient history and modern vibrancy. Renowned as the gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park, this UNESCO World Heritage Site draws millions of visitors annually to marvel at the iconic temples. Beyond Angkor, Siem Reap offers a rich tapestry of experiences, from bustling markets and serene pagodas to lively nightlife. Whether you're discovering the awe-inspiring temples or relishing the city's eclectic charm, Siem Reap promises a journey steeped in history, culture, and modern allure. Let’s uncover the hidden gems and must-do activities that make Siem Reap an unforgettable destination.
Witness the Sunrise at Angkor Wat
Start your adventure early—around 4:30 AM—for one of Southeast Asia's most iconic sights: the sunrise at Angkor Wat. As the first light of day illuminates the temple’s intricate carvings and ancient architecture, the scene transforms into a breathtaking blend of gold and shadow. This serene moment is a photographer's dream and an awe-inspiring introduction to the grandeur of Angkor Wat.
The sprawling complex is a testament to the ingenuity and spirituality of the Khmer Empire. Beyond the towering central sanctuary, venture into the quieter corners surrounded by forest. Here, you can sense the life and activity that once thrived in this ancient city, leaving you with a profound connection to history.
Explore the Jungle-Entwined Ta Prohm
If Angkor Wat leaves you yearning for more, the enchanting Ta Prohm Temple is your next stop. Dating back to the 12th century, this temple is a mesmerizing mix of man-made artistry and the power of nature. Often called the "Tomb Raider Temple," thanks to its Hollywood fame, Ta Prohm is where giant roots and vines embrace crumbling stone walls, creating an otherworldly scene.
Wandering through its maze-like corridors and sunlit courtyards feels like stepping into a forgotten world. The temple's partially ruined state enhances the sense of exploration, inviting visitors to climb over ancient stones and uncover hidden passageways. Ta Prohm’s unique beauty and mystique make it a must-see in Siem Reap.
Visit the Tranquil Preah Prom Rath Pagoda
For a serene contrast to the temples, head to Preah Prom Rath Pagoda. This stunning Buddhist sanctuary offers insight into the spiritual heart of Khmer culture. Passing through its ornate gates, you’re greeted by vibrant murals, intricately carved statues, and a palpable sense of peace.
Inside, the gentle hum of monks chanting and the fragrant scent of incense create a meditative atmosphere. Visitors are often welcome to observe or even participate in traditional Buddhist ceremonies, from making offerings to receiving blessings. This cultural immersion provides a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s rich spiritual traditions and the enduring faith of its people.
Paddle Along the Siem Reap River
For those seeking adventure and a closer connection to nature, kayaking along the Siem Reap River is a delightful escape. This winding waterway, which cuts through the city and its outskirts, reveals a side of Siem Reap that many miss.
As you paddle through lush greenery and under the shade of towering palms, you’ll spot colorful birds, playful monkeys, and perhaps even a shy crocodile. The river also offers glimpses of daily life in rural Cambodia—locals fishing, children playing, and farmers tending to their crops along the riverbanks. This peaceful journey combines natural beauty with cultural authenticity, making it a must-do for adventure enthusiasts.
Experience Village Life on a Tuk-Tuk
A tuk-tuk ride through Siem Reap's surrounding villages offers a charming window into Cambodian life. Your friendly driver will guide you along dirt roads lined with traditional stilt houses, golden rice fields, and smiling locals.
The journey often includes stops at schools, markets, and workshops where artisans craft beautiful souvenirs. As you observe villagers washing clothes by the river or chatting outside their homes, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for the simplicity and warmth of rural life. This intimate encounter with local culture highlights the resilience and hospitality of the Cambodian people.
Stroll the Pedestrian Bridges and Enjoy a Tuk-Tuk Bar
As night falls, Siem Reap transforms into a lively hub of lights and laughter. Begin your evening with a walk along the city’s pedestrian bridges, which offer stunning views of the illuminated Siem Reap River. These pathways connect vibrant neighborhoods, making them perfect for a stroll.
End your night at one of the city’s unique tuk-tuk bars. These converted vehicles serve as mobile cocktail spots, offering refreshing drinks and a laid-back atmosphere. Chat with fellow travelers, soak in the city’s energy, and toast to your Siem Reap adventure as music and laughter fill the air.
Conclusion
Siem Reap is far more than a gateway to Angkor; it’s a destination where ancient history and contemporary life blend seamlessly. From the awe-inspiring sunrise at Angkor Wat to the tranquil charm of Preah Prom Rath Pagoda, the jungle mystery of Ta Prohm, and the lively tuk-tuk bars, the city offers an eclectic mix of experiences. Whether you're navigating river bends, connecting with locals in rural villages, or marveling at centuries-old architecture, Siem Reap invites you to explore, reflect, and celebrate its vibrant culture and heritage. While in Siem Reap, J.P. led the Brookfield team to Hope Lutheran Church, a new church plant of Pastor Ravy Van. Pastor Ravy shared his heart for ministry and the struggles of being a pastor in Cambodia.
In addition to worship and Bible study, the church offers English classes for kids in the community. Kids from both church and community joined us for a short Bible lesson (from Ephesians 6:10-20) and a fun activity (making bead bracelets). We talked about the armor that God gives all believers to protect us from the attacks of Satan: the helmet of salvation, the belt of truth, the shoes if readiness, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit. As the kids finished the bracelets, we called them the 'bracelet of friendship,' reminding us of the community of faith in Jesus that crosses all geographical boundaries.
What a joy to spend an afternoon with Ravy and his church community!
