Well there goes Siege of Darkness

All done with it and literally BUZZING with excitement! Spoilers below, friends!

my rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolutely amazing book! this might be my favorite in the whole saga so far!

Okay, this book was great. The writing was beautiful, it was jam-packed with action, and my favorites had so many badass moments I didn't even mind the minimal amount of Jarlaxle and Gromph page time!

There was just so much growth! Watching Bruenor finally lay his guilt for Wulfgar down and seeing Regis become braver in the face of danger was amazing! And all those emotional scenes, man! I hated Besnell, but when he died I almost started crying. Salvatore creates such beautiful arcs for all of his characters, even minor ones, and watching Berkthgar mature through the war was just as heartwarming as watching any of the main cast overcome their obstacles.

And yay, Matron Baenre is FINALLY dead, so that's nice. And the deep gnomes are in Mithral Hall now! Belwar and Firble have long been favorites of mine, so I'm super excited to read even more of them now that they're allied with Bruenor's clan.

As sad as I am to see the party split again, I'm excited. Catti and Drizzt travelling alone should not only be plenty of fun, but I may finally get my romance! I can't wait to see where Salvatore puts them in Passage to Dawn.

All in all, it was a great book, and one I'll cherish for a while. There was so much development and raw emotion in the span of less than 300 pages. I'll never get how good ol' Bob does it, but I sure am glad that he does.

Okay so first off. that scene in the prologue where Lolth offers Errtu something that will tempt Drizzt. I swear if it's freaking Zak there will be hands

I'm so fed up with Catti and Drizzt! Please just kiss!!! IT'S NOT PLATONIC ANYMORE GUYS!!! And I thought that confession scene from Catti-brie was real. I HIGHLIGHTED THAT WHOLE DARN PAGE!!!! and then it was just the freaking sword and I think I've acquired anger issues

And well time for a different rant about my obsession with multiple very mundane side character. Sos'Umptu???? Like she's so minor and we hardly see her personality but I LOVE this woman like I'd let her step on me ok AND SAME WITH METHIL?????? yes he's a mind flayer but he seems so nice?? like I want to go out for tea with him???? The new Mechanicum Battle Group looks legitimately fantastic, featuring plastics for some desperately needed Martian infantry like the Tech-thralls and Thallax.

I'm thrilled to see the Triaros Armoured Conveyer getting plasticized as well. It doesn't appear to be quite 1:1 with some changes to superficial details, but nothing appears so offensively off-model as to render the legacy resin kit unplayable.

Ditto the Castellax Battle Automata, and the fact that they come as a pair has me hopeful that their standalone kit is similarly packaged - and, therefore, a savings over the $83.00 solos from Forge World.

Like the Solar Auxilia and Legiones Astartes Battle Groups, the HQ is sold separately so none of the sticker price is being diluted with duplicative commanders - but the commander that they have coming out with the standalone kits does look pretty sharp.

The real star of the show, however, is the standalone plastic Thanatar Siege-Automata. The resin version is an old kit and the quality of the casting is highly dependent on the condition of the mold at the time it's poured. You're likely to spend a lot of time digging out recesses where resin has globbed because the last guy to order one got a piece of the mold with it.

I certainly won't miss pinning all those plasma flasks in place.
