Alright, FE Fates analysis that popped into my head while I was laying in bed.

While they are literal characters that exist within the world (even if they aren't relevant to the story), the child units of Fates can also be read as reflections on their set parents, either who they could be without their existing inhibitions or who they wish they could be.

Short analysis of each parent and what their child represents in them when viewed through this lens under the cut (unsurprisingly, I have the most to say about the royals, since they're the most fleshed out):

Corrin-Kana: Kana shows Corrin with their friendly nature allowed to run free, innocence intact and without question of their place in the world or their background. Kana's dragon form brings them only joy and a sense of connection to their family, and their first use of it is to protect their parent, contrasting with Corrin's dragon form which sets them apart from both sets of siblings and is first used to avenge a mother they only briefly got to know.

Ryoma-Shiro: Shiro is Ryoma's desire for a life free from the responsibilities of a prince and able to express both his personal interests and grievances. Shiro is found wandering around, looking for the Hoshido he's heard about but never seen. He's openly critical of Ryoma for spending little time with him and trying to push a sense of responsibility as prince on him in a way that Ryoma never would have been able to with either of his birth parents, who died before he was fully grown, leaving him with the position of High Prince and three younger siblings to take care of, or with Mikoto, who would have appeared rather suddenly in his life as his stepmom and who he may have felt he had to accept to keep peace in the family, even if it became more genuine as time went on, but who also died suddenly and in a way that meant Ryoma's first days as leader of Hoshido were during wartime.

Xander-Siegbert: Siegbert shows both Xander's desire to be a "better" prince and to be able to express insecurities . Siegbert is constantly working on improving himself, but still finds time to be considerate of his friends and family in a way that Xander's supports with Camilla show Xander is often too busy to show. Siegbert is considered a born leader, while Xander mentions that his own stern image and strength don't come naturally to him.

Takumi-Kiragi: I mean, Takumi even openly says that he's jealous of Kiragi. Kiragi is naturally skilled at archery, self-confident, and friendly, all things that Takumi expresses in various supports as who he wishes he was. Kiragi also more or less does whatever he wants unless someone else drags him into being responsible, which Takumi forces himself to be.

Leo-Forrest: It's mentioned in supplemental material that Leo has insecurities around being a pretty boy, and Corrin expresses that Leo's more serious attitude is a front for a kinder personality underneath. Forrest is openly feminine and is not only proud of it, but entirely accepted for it by the people around him (except for Leo himself, initially). Forrest also has a strong sense of justice, which Leo cannot display himself due to Garon's power over him.

Azura-Shigure: Shigure is emotionally expressive and makes friends easily, even while being fairly introverted, while Azura has trouble showing her feelings or getting close to people. He also spends a lot of his time on artistic pursuits, where Azura spends much of hers worrying about all the things she knows but can't say.

Saizo-Asugi: Pretty straightforward, Asugi is open in his desires and spends time exploring who he is and wants to be before taking on the mantle of "Saizo," while Saizo himself has always been trained to be rigid and disciplined in all things. Asugi is loyal to Shiro, but he also has a life outside of him.

Laslow-Soleil: Soleil is almost literally the persona Laslow created for himself to feel more confident, except sincere and openly queer. Next.

Azama-Mitama: Mitama is just mostly the desire to be even lazier and get away with it most of the time, otherwise Azama seems pretty happy as himself.

Hinata-Hisame: As above, Hinata is pretty happy with who he is, but Hisame does show a calmer temper and more interest in tradition.

Odin-Ophelia: Like with Laslow, Ophelia is pretty much Odin's persona that he made to inspire himself in the bad future but without the actual trauma behind it and also her friends are less weirded out by her.

Niles-Nina: Nina both has parents who care about her and is able to express her frustrations regarding them to their faces, which Niles had no chance to do since he never knew them. Nina is also able to interact sincerely with people without the pathological need to piss them off.

Subaki-Caeldori: Caeldori is the effortlessly perfect person that Subaki tries to present himself as, and everybody respects her for it. She also admires Subaki himself, while Subaki kind of implies in his supports with Niles that he doesn't have much of a relationship with his own parents.

Arthur-Percy: Pretty simple, Percy is just as boisterous as Arthur, and just as fond of heroism, but isn't constantly stymied by terrible luck.

Jakob-Dwyer: As with Subaki, Dwyer is effortlessly good at butlering while Jakob struggled to get even the basics down. Dwyer also spends most of his time doing as he pleases and is openly dismissive of authority, which Jakob would clearly prefer to do with anyone who isn't Corrin.

Silas-Sophie: Probably the hardest to connect, mostly Sophie is pretty similar to Silas except a bit more cheerful. Maybe he just wants to be a girl.

Kaze-Midori: Midori shows Kaze's desire to focus on his interest in herbs and medicine and to thus be able to fix things when the people he cares about get hurt. Midori also lives without the guilt that has plagued Kaze for years, probably since he was about Midori's age, and thus represents a desire to go back to those days.

Hayato-Rhajat: Rhajat is the only child who is explicitly older than her parent due to the deeprealm shenanigans, and this shows Hayato's desire to be treated as an adult. Other than that, I don't have much evidence that Hayato wants to be broodier or better at curses, but if you take the rest of this analysis as accurate you could add that onto a reading of him.

Benny-Ignatius: Ignatius is another case of being a more expressive and talkative version of his father, which helps him get close to other people, even while looking intimidating. Benny has expressed difficulty in making friends due to his frightening face.

Kaden-Selkie: Selkie is also pretty similar to her father, but she is a little less empathetic, which Kaden could wish to be in some circumstances, such as the Nohrian army passing through Kitsune territory in Conquest. Kaden may want to feel less bad about hurting people who are a possible threat.

Kaden-Velouria: Velouria cares a lot less about what other people think of her, while Kaden seems very conscious of being judged.

Aaand that's that! Maybe I'm onto something, maybe this is bullshit, but it's a fun reading either way!

Do you think the awakening trio’s children would go back with them to Ylisse? If the deeprealms didn’t exist, they definitely would, due to being babies/not being born yet, depending on interpretation.

If the deep realms DID exist:

it mentions in Charlotte’s ending with Odin/Laslow that they sent an allowance to their daughter, implying she didn’t come with them. It also mentions in Rev!Corrin’s endings with them that they mysteriously reappeared. (and in Felica*s that she sent a letter a year to cor, so I’m not sure how travel and communication between Ylisse and Nohr works)

I could see this depending on the child. Sieg and Shiro would have to stay. I believe Soleil’s solo ending says she disappeared and her paired endings say historians disagree with her final fate.

Shigure was more close to his caretakers in the deep realms than his parents, and I’m not sure he in particular would be okay leaving if he made strong bonds with the other kids.

interesting! i didnt know that about the charlotte/odin ending actually (i have. forgotten most of the fates endings because they are all nothing burgers to me) i thought it was only the laslow/charlotte one… but yeah i honestly? dont know where i stand on this. i like to lean yes, mostly because i like the idea of soleil and ophelia and any potential kids getting to meet their grandparents, but theyve honestly got very little reason to do so! obviously they love their parents but they also have built lives and relationships for themselves in nohr that its kind of hard to imagine!!

i guess its just whether or not the kid is willing to uproot their whole current lives to go learn about where their parents are from. and, honestly, since they all spent so long in the deeprealms, i think you could make the case to leave for almost every kid? some of them, like you said, like shiro or siegbert, would almost definitely not go. but if one of the trio married xander or ryoma, i just dont think they’d leave anyway 😭 kids like asugi or rhajat or dwyer who kind of have things attaching them to certain factions or careers might also struggle with leaving, but at the end of the day i could still see it happening. it might depend on who the kid’s second parent is (selena!asugi vs laslow!asugi might end up acting a bit differently for example), or it might depend on the spouse of the awakening trio and their willingness to leave (ex: i think kiragi would go to ylisse because takumi would be so down to go to ylisse. on the other hand, camilla might struggle going to ylisse, so if she stayed back, solei/ophelia would probably stay with her).

theres also the idea that it could be route dependent? when bringing up shigure i think if its conquest he’d stay behind trying to solve the mystery of his mother, but if its rev where azura lives and he can be closer with his parents, he might be more inclined to stay with them.

overall i think its just a very mixed bag and its all incredibly hypothetical because we really just cant know 😭 atp i think it comes down to your own personal interpretation of each kid and how you choose to pair off each trio member. but, for my biased ships and bc i like the trio so much… they all go 😫 that was enough heartache for their lives they can be happy now i give them permission!!

Update 2.0.0 of Unofficial Gay Fates is here! After over three years of working on this project, we've finally hit 2.0.0, and wanted to make this update a little more special. This update adds in a new title screen for the mod, changing the 'Fates' on the title screen to a rainbow. This is edited for each route of the game! In addition, the cutscene that plays upon attaining your first S support now has two gender-neutral figures, instead of a man and woman's. Big thanks to Tru for making both of these edits!

In addition, we've also added another paralogue edit, this time for Shigure. As both Jakob and Felicia appear in the intro depending on your Avatar's gender, there are two different variants. One for if Jakob is married to Azura, and another if Felicia is.

My fav hair colors on the Fates kids

Hi I’m back. Third post of the day!!! LMAO. I wanna rant abt hair colors because I ship a LOT for hair color in Fates and Awakening. This will just be for Fates tho.

Neutral:

Kana: For female Kana, it’s anything blue. Flora, Reina, Azura, and Oboro. She can just really rock blue tbh. She can also rock white really well! For Male Kana, I like anything grey-ish. Laslow, Jakob, even kind of Takumi to an extent. I don’t hate any colors on F!Kana, but I DESPISE both Kaze and Kaden’s hair colors on M!Kana. Not a good look. Actually, I do take it back. I don’t love the Camilla lavender on F!Kana. It looks wrong.

Shigure: I’m kidding

Dwyer: Nyx is the correct option here. I don’t like Mozu or Kagero’s because they’re too brown. But with Nyx, it’s like the exact same shade as his gloves, and that’s satisfying to me. But also Corrin’s default hair color, Corrin’s black hair, as well as Effie’s hair color look nice on him. Everything else looks disgusting

Midori: I talk about Azura a lot and I love that color, but honestly this is the only kid that can get Setsuna’s hair color and look good. She already has a lot of green in her pallette so it works. But other than that, my favorite is probably still Azura, and by proxy Beruka. I’ve also seen Camilla!Midori a lot on YT before and I lowkey fw it. Hinoka’s doesn’t look great, nor does Selena’s

Hoshido:

Shiro: Either blonde or brunette. He looks great with the canon Kagero/Mozu color, but Rinkah also suits him. Azura and Felicia look atrocious

Kiragi: It’s Oboro or nothing. He looks fine with Rinkah and MAYBE Hana’s too. I don’t like anything else on him. Orochi and Setsuna are close ENOUGH to be okay with me, but everything else looks so wrong

Asugi: I’m not even gonna lie, I don’t ship Saizo/Sakura anymore but I still think it’s Asugi’s best hair color. It’s that classic Gaius orange we all know and love. And once again, Azura is a swing and a miss. Not a cute color at ALL

Mitama: Once again, Sakura wins for best hair color. But it’s genuinely cruel to do this ship imo so I don’t. Felicia’s is also cute. I hate Setsuna’s on her, it looks like swamp water

Hisame: The only good one is Hana. Second/Third place is Kagero/Mozu, and everything else can get fucked. This kid was BORN to be a brunette and you cannot convince me otherwise

Caeldori: I’ve talked before about Hinoka red and why it’s arguably the best. Sakura’a is also cute. But an underrated one is Rinkah’s tbh. Caledori already kind of has blonde energy, so I think this suits her nicely! It almost reminds me of Rapunzel. And I do not like Azura on her either, but honestly she can surprisingly rock a lot of stuff

Rhajat: Nyx is first, Rinkah’s a close second. Black and white are her colors for sure. Orochi’s is nice too. And Felicia’s is kind of a vibe. But once again, Setsuna is failing to make an impression on me. Also Hinoka’s looks ass

Selkie: Selkie is the only character in the game that looks good with every single color tbh. Except for like, Kagero. I genuinely like them all on her. But obviously I like Sakura as her mom so I have to say that’s my FAVORITE favorite.

Nohr:

Siegbert: CHARLOTTE. Nothing else. The reason why is because Siegbert dresses in the same colors as Xander, so any color that isn’t blonde looks really out of place. Get OUT of here with the Hinoka propaganda 😭 Peri’s is also atrocious, poor kid looks deathly ill/his Private Quarters icon makes him look like he has clown face paint on

Forrest: Honestly? My favorite for him is Effie. Horrid for stats, I know. But here comes Color Theory Slaycation. Forrest’s uniform is a cool toned pink, so a cool toned color is gonna look best for his hair. Hence, why I think Effie’s white-blonde looks really good on him. I have a love-hate relationship with the Nyx. And honestly? I don’t love Felicia’s on him. It’s too much pink all at once for me. Makes it look like his hair is blending into the hat. But he will forever be my little Avatar 21 brunette baby 😭 and I don’t like Sakura’s. The pinks clash.

Soleil: Either Selena or Felicia. Selena because they have the same uniform colors, and Felicia because it’s closest to the canon Olivia color. Don’t care for blue on her. The colors of her outfit read as warm toned to me (there’s like red undertones in the black and white), so any cool color clashes to me. The worst are probably either Azura or Camilla. Azura’s is like fucking green on her and I don’t like it

Ophelia: Elise this and that, I wanna talk about the runner up in my opinion, and that’s Charlotte’s. I know I just complained about Felicia!Forrest blending in too much, but this one actually works. She looks like Goldilocks in the best way. Also probably terrible for stats. Elise does still win tho, in case we were wondering. Oh, and Felicia’s is cute too. I don’t like Nyx’s, too dark on her (same reason I hate Lon’qu!Owain, the canon blonde children typically look really wrong with super dark hair

Nina: PASTELS. Give her pastels. Literally ANY pastel will work. Felicia, Camilla, Beruka, Azura, give Niles the Corrin marriage and give her the pink hair. She literally rocks every single pastel color. Effie’s is closest to canon and I like that. Obvs tho Niles/Camilla is one of my OTPs so ofc she’s gonna be one of my favs. Just keep her AWAY from Peri, Selena, or Charlotte (beware the primary colors)

Percy: Literally only Elise/Charlotte/Effie looks good. Everything else looks shit,

Ignatius: Beruka is the first on earth I ever saw, so it’s the one that looks best to me now. Selena’s is the worst by far. Mozu too.

Velouria: Mozu is EASILY the best one, followed by Nyx. Effie’s is fine, I suppose. I just don’t like the way that the line forms around the streak when the rest of the hair is the same damn color. But Felicia’s looks weird, Charlotte’s looks like she got movie theater butter in her hair, Azura’s feels out of place, and Camilla’s just gives me a full body visceral reaction of just pure rage.

That’s all I got for now. I’m uploading the next episode of Conquestcation tomorrow I swear (should just name it Something Conquestful cuz ESV isn’t even relevant anymore LMAO)

sticks around to help, but dyes his hair, changes his name (as in canon), and never tells his parents who he is. when his lady doesn't show up, he leaves to find her and takes on the name "Gaius". Caeldori's retainer. (Dead in BR)

falls into Ylisse, and while scouring the skies to try and find Asugi and to find out where she is, she's found by Phila. She takes on the name "Cordelia" and becomes a part of Ylisse's Pegasus Knight squad (Dead in BR)

deeply curious about her cousin Asugi and just young enough to not understand why he resents her so much. She's mostly kept off the battlefield. Is training to be F!Kana's retainer, and has her existence revealed by Soleil. (Does not exist in BR)

Lucina!Soleil

promptly ends up having her identity revealed to her parents because she has a brand, being the first one as well, after Laslow finds her in a bar. Is the first instance of Nohr realizing something is up. Inherits Falchion. Siegbert's retainer. (Dead in BR)

Nyx!Siegbert

first prince of Nohr and leader of the army. Also feels guilty for the loss of his two cousins. Runs into his mother before she ever encounters Corrin and is recruited alongside her. Inherited Siegfried. Does not tell his father until much later. (Does not exist in BR)

Rinkah!Mitama

Grows up close to Caeldori, due to her father formerly being the Queen's retainer. Next in line to be chief of the Fire Tribe, she attempts to find Caeldori and Asugi by heading to Hoshido. Reveals herself to Azama first. (Dead in BR)

Camilla!Velouria

second princess of Nohr and representative of the Wolfskin. Was raised mostly isolated from the human world. Is the second person to reveal herself. Winds up at Mt Garou and tracks down her father. (Does not exist in BR)

Charlotte!Ignatius

One of the last characters to join the cast. He is found with Shigure and is relieved to find that the two factions are getting along. Is the first person, alongside Shigure, to make sense of Valla. Dwyer's retainer. Charlotte recognizes immediately. (Does not exist in BR)

Elise!Kiragi

Second youngest of the Hoshidan and Nohrian families. Grew up in Hoshido before his father died protecting him and his mother, before moving to Nohr. Inherited Fujin Yumi. Readily reveals himself to his parents. (Does not exist in BR)

Inherits Yato after his brother dies. Reunites with his sister after his grandmother orders Kaze to quietly bring him to the castle as well. Due to his blade, the royal family is also informed about the appearance of children from the future. (Dead in CQ)

Hinata!Shigure

second prince of Nohr. Is just old enough to recall his mother. Inherited her writings and her song, alongside the warnings that come with it. Mentioned above, becomes friends with Ignatius. (Does not exist in CQ)

Azura!Hisame

third prince of Nohr. The sword he carries is the same one his father named after him. While okay with an alliance with the other faction, is stubbornly against revealing their identity to their parents. Joins as a samurai at the castle to be able to watch over his mother. (Does not exist in CQ)

Mozu!Rhajat

next in line to be chief of the Wind Tribe. Is very close to Forrest. Winds up in Plegia after being chased by Faceless, only to run into Grimleal. Takes on the name "Tharja". (Does not exist in CQ)

Sakura!Forrest

first prince of Nohr. Is very excited to find out he has cousins in another world and wishes to get to know his aunt and uncle. One of the first to reveal himself, namely to Sakura, once she and the rest of Corrin's gang head to Izana's place. Inherits Brynhildr, but struggles to use it. (Dead in CQ)

Noire!Ophelia

grew up in Ylisse without her father, eventually deciding to chase him down because she was unwilling to believe he was dead. Ended up getting roped into fighting, and wastes no time introducing herself to her father. Forrest's retainer. Has her existence revealed by Soleil beforehand. (Dead in CQ)

Orochi!Shiro

first prince of Hoshido and the leader of the army. Feels responsible for losing Dwyer and M!Kana. When alternate Dwyer approaches him with friendship in mind, he is initially apprehensive but agrees. Kagero finds him first as he tries to warn her about Mokushu. Inherits Raijinto. Oboro!Nina

Forrest's retainer. Stays with Forrest and does not wish to reveal her identity. Aids Hinoka and the rest in saving Sakura, requesting only that they hear Forrest out. (Dead in CQ)

Felicia!Selkie

representative of the Kitsune. Grew up close with Dwyer and Kanas. Shiro's third in command after Asugi dies and witnessed Dwyer's death. Winds up at Kitsune Hamlet and misses most of the action. (Does not exist in CQ)

Beruka!Percy

Treated by Forrest as a younger sibling. Was taken in by Camilla after his parents' deaths. Used to the kind, motherly version of her, he tries to tell her immediately. Soleil is thankfully there to stop him. Kept off the battlefield due to his age. (Dead in CQ)

Hana!Sophie

First Dwyer's, then Kana's retainer. Chooses to reunite with her father first, introducing herself as a distant cousin. After he disappears, she attempts to track him down. (Does not exist in CQ)
