I did this like a few months after making this account, and I thought it’d be fun to go back and re look at my ratings

Also since this one isn’t a dare to rate EVERY ship I am cutting out the protag/companion section since they’re all underaged and the original ratings reflected thus wiht them all being a no. Also getting rid of ones where she’s with a pokemon.

Finally I’m gonna add some ones I like to the very end

! 180Shipping - Karen & Shelly -2 bad a ladies over here kicking butt and being fashionable heck yes, but also Karen is an awful swimmer so let the cute romance ensue 8/10

*AphoticShipping - Saturn & Karen-Karen would find it fun to mess with from time to time, and maybe could work. 5/10

*AtrociousShipping - Karen & Mars-I mean possible, but also Mars is really kinda child like so Karen may just want to protect her instead. 4/10

BarghestShipping - Karen & Lavana-I feel like it’d be like shipping Karen with a cheerleader…an evil cheerleader. 2/10

Just depends though because again she grew up with Silver who she is like a mom (or older sis some days) to, so that would have to be worked out. Plus she’s kinda miffed he left Silver from seeing how much it hurt him. But also hateship to romance, basically I’ve been giving this one more thought and it could be heckin cute. 9/10

LiaisonShipping - Petrel & Karen-Kinda cute in a way with them balancing each other out. It’s like obvious psycho with subtle psycho, and seems fun. 8/10

! PaybackShipping - Archer & Karen- Briefly had a little shipping with this and tbh really enjoyed it. If in an au just the dynamic of the couple in 101 Dalmatians would be these two. In main verse you could have them sneaking the romance and such to not get caught. Also evil Karen? Or good Archer? 9/10

PerishSongShipping - Proton & Karen-He’s a bit reactive for her, and cocky though maybe she’d balance him out? 5/10

! StrangeloveShipping - Domino & Karen-…I dunno why she makes me think of sailor moon, but she does Evil Karen? then ye this could work and be fun, maybe Twist!verse would even work. 8/10

TenebrousShipping - Ariana & Karen-I find it funny the team Karen was vaguely a part of, and now is a part of her life she works so hard to distance from is the one she’s shipped with ALOT. Oh and Galactic of all things is second most common for some reason. Also eh on this one. Ariana has that mom vibe, and Karen distances herself from that usually. 3/10

*BerthierShipping - Cress & Karen-I dunno because he seems like a 16 year old teen to me, but their personalities would work, so maybe. 5/10

BittersweetShipping - Karen & Whitney-Hm I can think of some interesting plots with Karen’s early elite four days as when they meet. Not sure what they’d have in common though. 4/10

! BracknellShipping - Gardenia & Karen-Karen likes grass tyoes and Gardenia has that somewhat wild side that Karen likes I can see them spending late nights camping after exploring all day. 8/10

***ChalcedoniteShipping - Karen & Roxanne-Isn’t she like 16? Also I feel Karen would just see her as a spunky kid 0/10

! CockroachShipping - Burgh & Karen-Can we appreciate the name please…..Ok cool. Ok but Karen trying to learn how to paint the normal way and showing Burgh how to do spray paint work or paint a motorcycle? Look I think they’d be cute. 8/10

! ColdNightShipping - Candice & Karen-Yes, double yes. Candice talking about the pressure of having the meeting point of dialgia, palkia, and giratina so close plus the regi temple, and lake acuity. Like the pressure of keeping all of these legendary places safe is alot of pressure. Then Karen knowing about ho-oh and wanting to keep them safe, anyways they can bond ina . cool way. 10/10

*DarkActShipping - Brycen-Man & Karen-Not Brycen, Brycen-Man. I really dunno because I feel like it’d be too close to the Masked Man for her to be comfortable. 2/10

DarkalleyShipping - Volkner & Karen-Hmmmmm maybe, but also I feel Volkner needs a more high energy person, so 3/10. As the toxic relationship their a part of in some hallmark like plot though 10/10

DarkGaleShipping - Karen & Winona-A possibility, but I kinda see them as friends just chillin watchin clouds. 3/10

*DarkHarvestShipping - Cilan & Karen-Didn’t know Karen was popular with the trio, but ok. Anyways if he’s alot like he is in the anime thats gonna be a hard no. otherwise, eh maybe? 4/10

DarkMarshShipping - Karen & Sabrina-Friends I think. Like they’d be comfortable around each other, but no spark in that way. 1/10

ElectricDarknessShipping - Elesa & Karen-I sort of want it just because while Karen dresses nice she is a tomboy meaning the clashes about fashion or manners would be great. 8/10

FightNightShipping - Karen & Maylene-If they were in the plot of a secret fight club, a hard yes. Otherwise, I don’t see it. 1/10

GabbroShipping - Brock & Karen-I want to see Brock do his whole freak out just to write Karen’s way to shoot him down. After all romance takes awhile for, and if aggressive is your first interaction it scares her. Though he does stand down after being rejected so she’d respect that, and maybe think about giving a chance. 5/10

GothShipping - Clair & Karen-Popular yes, but I like the Cynthia, Karen, Clair girl squad dynamic so much more. 2/10

ImpShipping - Karen & Valerie-Karen being vastly confused but fascinated by the antics of Valerie sounds cute. 7/10

InsectQueenShipping - Karen & Viola-The plots would be cute knowing Karen’s quirks with cameras. 8/10

**MortelleShipping - Fantina & Karen-Naw…to much flash and show for Karen, but maybe contest mentor. Also Karen has a vendetta against Amity Square for it’s selectiveness of ‘cute pokemon’. 0/10

BlackCatDog Shipping - Karen & Nanu They were shipped for a bit and I still think it’s a cute possibility. If nothing else just them talking about their pasts would be interesting. They’ve both been through alot. 8/10

MoonFlare Shipping - Karen & Lysandre If I could only choose 1 ship for Karen it’d be this one. I just really like the parallels that they have with each other, and how both of them have compassion for the opposite sides but due to roughly a similar reason. I’d have to go into alot to explain all that though. Basically I just really like how opposites attract here cause they’d both have to grow. 10/10

Aqua Moon shipping - Karen & Archie Again Karen’s awful around water and I just think these two would have a blast interacting with each other. They’d also both be able to have serious moments too,a nd could even talk about what it was like to leave Rocket. Also I have a really awesome idea for Deity!Verse. 8/10

BlackPaint Shipping - Karen & Mina This combines Karen and art like with the Burgh ship, plus fairy shenanigans like with Valerie, and also the punk but soft vibe both of these gals bring to the table. I love it 10/10

MoonHearts Shipping - Karen & Sonia Sonia trying to figure out how to scientist, and Karen trying to figure out how to elite, and them both being dorks. I love it! 8/10

MoonHive - Karen & Professor Juniper Juniper being science nerd but also super deep and philosophical and just her and Karen spending late nights talking about anything and everything sounds cute. 7/10

NightWatchers - Karen & Looker Ye they’d picker sometimes and yes Karen’s bar might become a problem, but what if they have to work together and spy shenanigans ensue with these dorks insisting to themselves they need to stay professional. Cute af. 10/10

BlackSmog Shipping - Karen & Tabitha Tbh I could see it. I’m not as firmly sold as some others but I can see it working. Besides Karen doesn’t care if someone’s an ex criminal or has humble beginnings. so ye could work! Although she’d def want to get Tabitha to work out with her. 6/10

Now that you got the Gym Leaders and such out of the way, how about one for the Elite Four members (Champions will not count since only, like, 3 of them have a specialized type)? Since only 8 out of the 14 types used have more than one E4 member, this means that Koga, Aaron, Bertha, Siebold, Olivia, and Kahili literally have no competition. :P (Also, I do know that you're not really fond of either Fire-type Elite Four, so for favorite, I guess you gotta choose the one you dislike less)

LETS GO. For types with only one elite four representative, I’m gonna talk about why I like or dislike them.

Normal Type- There isn’t one. MOVING ON.

Fighting Type- Least Favorite: Bruno is terrifying. In Generations he’s just muscles on muscles on muscles. And I saw an image of him from Lets Go games and good lord that man has demon eyes.

Fighting Type- Most Favorite: Marshal. Sure he’s the only other one but I do genuinely like his design. Even if his eyebrows are out there. He wears a mouth guard to protect his teeth! Man’s smart.

Flying Type- I like Kahili. Her design is cute. And I absolutely love how the flying type fits her as a golfer! I just wish she hadn’t come out of nowhere.

Poison Type- It’s just Koga and I’ve talked about him already. :P

Ground Type- Bertha’s the only one. I really love this sweet looking old lady. She’s totally Agatha’s twin sister or cousin and no one can convince me otherwise.

Rock Type- There’s only Olivia. While I love the idea of a strong rock type leader woman, I hate the character on a design and character basis. Sexy, barely anything wearing single woman. Not to mention all the robotic stufful in her house being popular among single women. Because IF A HOT CHICK IS SINGLE WE MUST MAKE SURE ITS KNOWN. Women are distinctly tied to a man in their life, don’t you know. And stop pointing her ass at us in the game, Game Freak. Its freaking gross. Especially considering its not just her butt pointed at us and they’ve arched her back in such a way for it to bring to mind.. things. Doesn’t help that she’s another female character who’s wearing ‘pants’ that are about as useful as boxer style panties and might as well just be that.

Bug Type- Shout out to Aaron for being unexpected on my part. Of all the types I could see in the elite four, Bug Type is not one of them. Precious bug boy.

Ghost Type- Least Favorite: (ITS ACEROLA. SHE COUNTS!) Okay fine I’ll pic someone else. We’ll go with Shauntal. For whatever reason her color scheme just does not work for me. Its too bland. I feel like a long dress would have looked nicer on her. Also that freaking.. whatever around her neck. Its supposed to look like a cat but.. why? Why though? Why not just give her a weird ass poofy neck thing with a clasp that looks like a duskull’s head or something since she’s a ghost type trainer? I mean I know the answer. They want her to be totes kawaii ghosty spooky girl. That’s why she’s got a short girlish dress instead of a cool long dress. Her being a writer’s cute though.

Ghost Type- Most Favorite: Sassy attitude grandma Agatha is best ghost trainer. I want to see her in a game again. That ISN’T a remake. YOU BETTER NOT HAVE KILLED HER OFF, GAMEFREAK. If freaking Oak gets to keep kicking, his rival better freaking get to as well. She’s in pokemon masters and that’s cool. But she looks like they have her a youth lift so she’s not TOO OLD LOOKING.

Steel Type- Least Favorite: Twig Legs Molayne. I was happy so see him in there though.

Steel Type- Most Favorite: Wikstrom is a knight. That is funny. His face reminds me of Steiner from Final Fantasy IX.

Fire Type- Least Favorite: Ronald McDonald I mean Flint. Yeah. Flint McDonald. Because I hate clowns.

Fire Type- Most Favorite: I might dislike Malva for being a member of the evil team and not getting removed from her position but I do like her design much more than basically anyone else in Team Flare.

Water Type- I love Siebold. He looks like a grumpy chef and I can picture him as the Gordon Ramsay of the pokemon world. He’s also cute.

Grass Type- There isn’t one~

Electric Type- There isn’t one here either~

Psychic Type- Least Favorite: CAITLIN. Sleepy spoiled little rich girl who went from having her butler do all her battles for her because she couldn’t control her emotions and psychic powers and then somehow becomes an ELITE FOUR MEMBER? Shit I’d accept her as a gym leader first but not basically one of the five most powerful trainers in a region. At least she seems like less of a sleepy rich bitch in Black2White2. Wouldn’t be surprised if she’s a sleepy brat in Masters again though. Also I want to cut her hair because god damn is that unnatural.

Psychic Type- Most Favorite: Lucian and Will are basically the same person in my eyes and neither of them are Caitlin, so props to both of them.

Ice Type- Least Favorite: Lorelei. Because she’s an ice queen in personality and the booby character in design. Also in Fire Red/Leaf Green she collects pokedolls because we gotta make sure to have something kawaii girly for our titty character. But it has to be a SECRET because people knowing her dark dark secret of collecting cute dolls as a smart adult calculated ice queen would probably leave her embarrassed and venerable and ugh sometimes I hate Japanese characters. ALSO, SHE GOT TIDDIES MAKE SURE YOU NOTICE HOW MASSIVE THEM THINGS ARE. Anime sure won’t let you forget it. Also put on some clothes suited to the cold. Jeez.

Ice Type- Most Favorite: I love Glacia’s design. Especially since it doesn’t look like she’s be too cold in an ice filled battle room. She has that older dignified woman thing going for her. My brain wants to give her more of a southern belle accent.

Dragon Type- Least Favorite: I’m putting Lance here only because I have to have a least favorite. I love Lance.

Dragon Type- Most Favorite: Drake looks like a crazy old man who spent years at sea hunting down that giant Dragonite Bill saw in the anime as his white whale. Hot Grandpa Energy. This is a man you respect. Those eyes are scary intimidating.

Dark Type- Least Favorite: Karen, because I have to pick someone as least favorite. I love Karen.

Dark Type- Most Favorite: Sidney is cute and has a very friendly personality that I like a lot. He totally feels like the type who’d see a little girl crying because she didn’t win the cute prize at a carnival and would win it for her. Also, unlike Grimsley, SIDNEY KNOWS HOW TO WEAR SOCKS WITH DRESS SHOES. God damnit, Grimsley what is wrong with you.

Fairy Type- There isn’t one. I hope next gen has one!

Countdown to #PokeAni21

For this entire week, I will be sharing my personal favorite moments from the anime leading up to its 21st anniversary on April 1st in Japan. ← Day 4

Day 5 - Iku Z! ! The PokéAni Resurgence

I mean I don’t really have to tell you that much how awesome Ash’s Kalos journey was. There’s literally an ARMY of XY series fans to tell you that. It was because of this saga the anime became slightly popular again due to the fact that (whether you ship it or not) Serena’s crush on Ash had so many adorable moments together, and the significance of Ash-Greninja’s development. The series reached its peak during XY&Z with Ash’s closest taste to a championship victory almost winning the Kalos League in a very intense finals round battle. Kalos gym leaders were relevant even after Ash got their respective badges. And who doesn’t love the always kawaii Eureka/Bonnie? I owe a lot to the XY era...it was because of this series I took part in the fandom, and why I joined tumblr in the first place early 2014. If there was no XY, there is no P J.

KALOS: Now for any of my old followers from back in the day, you all knew how hyped I was for Ash vs. Clemont in 2015. I WAS CRAZY HYPED ABOUT IT, and I literally made like 1 rambling post a week counting down until their eventual gym battle. Ash’s friendship with Clemont is probably the closest brotherhood you’ll ever see among all of the companions. Clemont literally left their group temporarily to ready himself at 100% for this battle because he knew that Ash wasn’t your ordinary challenger. His travels so far with him have inspired him to grow stronger as a trainer and inventor. The 3-on-3 battle was a definitely at true battle between bros, plus Goodra really shined here!

XY&Z: Serena’s character arc had a rocky start because she didn’t really know what to do until she was introduced to Pokémon showcases. If you ask me, I honestly loved her re-designed look with shorter hair better. With that being said, my favorite pick for XY&Z is the episode where her Eevee makes its showcase debut on the stage. What I absolutely loved about this episode is that even though Serena lost (probably due to Eevee tripping), she learned to keep her head up and continued smiling like a performer should! It wasn’t like before when Fennekin tripped, and became extremely upset/salty afterwards. THAT’S RIGHT MY GIRL, SHAKE IT OFF, AND GO ON WITH THE SHOW! She didn’t let that slight mistake ruin her following performance, and continued to put on a show for the fans. This made me love her character more because of the results of her growth shown here. In the end, Jessie Jessilee ended up winning her first Princess Key, so it’s a win-win episode in my opinion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

MEGA EVOLUTION SPECIAL: The Mega Evolution specials was an amazing side-series to have until merging it with the main story for the XY&Z arc. By far my favorite out of those four was the 1st special they aired. We were introduced to Alain, a serious trainer with ambition, and Mairin, a spunky new trainer with a Chespin. I honestly did not expect for them to travel together initially. But what’s really special about the 1st act is that we got to see Mega Evolution portrayed in the anime for the first time ever! They showcased a lot of the trainers with Key Stones, AND we even got to see Kalos Elite Four member, Siebold appear in the anime! Alain just straights up challenges him with through the “secret menu” and we got a MEGA CHARIZARD vs. MEGA BLASTOISE fight! What more can I say? This was definitely a great introduction to Mega Evolution.

oh thank god, a positive post about alan's victoly anniversary. i have seen nothing in the pokeani tag except posts full of vitrol against him for the sole reason that he won against satoshi and what it means for the writers' habits (hell one of them straight up admits alan went from a character they loved to a character they hated solely at that moment) and yet everything they attribute hating alan for is basically projecting? lmao. (1/2)

like. lmao. they call alan a character introduced solely to keep satoshi from winning (lie, he's literally there because he's the protag of his own story), claim that he's on the same tier as the likes of takuto (uh huh, sure, call someone with an actual character development arc and personality on the same tier as mr. i spam hacked lvl 100 uber tier legendaries to cheese the game with no prior foeshadowing takumi, i see), and they insist that his lizardon is the cheesiest cheese to ever cheese which. did they even watch the specials. lie. anyways i dont take them seriously because they're the same idiots that clog up the pokeani tag shitting on the sm anime but damn if it isn't annoying seeing the same three tired points thrown out again and again like petulant children who got denied an extra serving of dessert. go home, kids. anyways thanks for the refreshing positivity post. i needed that. C:

And that’s exacty why I made that post (and have now gone back to put it in the sitewide tags, because fuck it). I knew that there would be people reviving hatred against him because they have nothing better to do after one full year than continue to stan for Ash to the point where they completely unjustifiably bash another character. I wanted to counter that with at least some positivity, because while I am used to my favorite characters being the ones who are widely disliked in various fandoms, the situation is even more extreme here. At least Keith from Voltron does have a solid base backing him, even if we’re small. Alan has me and maybe two other people. I have to do my part to defend him considering the fact that he’s my absolute favorite fictional character and means the world to me. So I made a positive post celebrating his victory, because he did deserve it, I am proud of him, and I wanted some positivity and love for him out there on a day when I had a strong feeling people were going to be reviving the hate. (And on that note, I wanted to make sure that it was a positive post about Alan. I wanted it to be clear that I’m happy he won because I love him and he earned that win, not because I wanted Ash to lose. I celebrate Alan because I love and want to celebrate Alan, not for any other reason.)

Anyway, yeah---of course all of their hatred for Alan comes down to nothing but projection and self-insertion. The Ash stans in this fandom project onto and self-insert into Ash hard, so much so that they love and adore any character who fawns over him, instantly “forgive” any character that ultimately loses against him (and therefore he proves he’s better than), and hate any character that doesn’t worship / actually defeats him. They admit to this themselves, in a fashion, by admitting that they only hate Alan because he defeated Ash. They never actually liked Alan; they only “liked” him insofar as they figured it was a certainty that he would be crushed under Ash’s heel eventually. When he wasn’t, and he continued to be his own character with his own narrative arc, they turned against him. If he’s not going to be there as a prop to Ash’s story, then they’re going to ignore him at best or actively hate him at worst. I maintain that Paul would have received the exact same treatment if he hadn’t been “redeemed” in the fandom’s eyes by losing to Ash at the Sinnoh League, and had defeated him instead. It’s completely ridiculous.

And yeah, all of those complaints are absolute nonsense. It has been said in interviews that Alan’s story was planned from the very beginning, and that the reason why The Strongest Mega Evolution specials were created is because they needed a way to tell his backstory, yet couldn’t fit it into the primary anime. Alan has such a robust narrative, and is such an important character, that the anime team felt it necessary to create four high budget specials in order to convey his story to the audience, on top of cameos in the main series before he actually made an appearance there (through Sycamore’s flashbacks, Sycamore thinking about him, et cetera). Alan was not created to oust Ash from the League; Alan was created as his own character with his own narrative. He’s the protagonist of TSME, and the rightful protagonist of the Flare arc. Trying to claim otherwise is nonsense from those who have projected onto Ash with such force that they literally cannot see any other character as characters in their own right, and instead view all other characters through a lens of “how do they affect Ash’s story.”

To that end, Alan is not at all comparable to Tobias, so there’s no reason to even get into that again (and I have before, besides). And as for Lizardon? My god. It would have been absurd to have Lizardon lose to Greninja, considering that:

Alan and Lizardon have been training together since they started out on their journey. They have trained together every single day, and have accomplished amazing feats together. In TSME 4, they cleared a mega evolution gauntlet that ended in a match against a member of the Elite Four. In XYZ014, they fought against 50% Zygarde and Lizardon held his own even before mega evolution. Saying that Lizardon cheeses it up is ridiculous, because we have seen their training (hell, Alan requested the mega evolution gauntlet specifically for training purposes), we have seen his feats, we have seen exactly why he’s as strong as he is. We even saw a progression; Alan and Lizardon lost against a member of the Elite Four in TSME 1 (though it was a close match, as Siebold himself points out), and they both nearly died in the primal / mega legendary battle in TSME 3. Yet they continued training, continued pushing forward, and earned their strength, using tools that are available to everyone (i.e. mega evolution). We saw this, right there on screen.

By contrast, Ash has not had Greninja for very long, we rarely saw them train, and the power they use (Bond Phenomenon) is not available to everyone. It’s a special super power that only they can use, because they’re special and the main protagonist. Greninja pulled that giant orange shuriken out of literally nowhere, having never practiced it, and yet people want to bash Lizardon for using techniques and attacks that we’ve seen him use and perfect before? Really? Not to mention that Greninja’s special powers of specialness allowed him to somehow block MULTIPLE Thunder Punches with WATER SHURIKEN, which is absolutely beyond absurd. People want to complain about how Greninja fell to Blast Burn after taking a lot of damage during the fight, yet everyone turns a blind eye to Greninja magically blocking multiple Thunder Punches with a water-type attack. OK.

No matter which way you slice it, Lizardon should have OHKO’d Greninja. Straight up. I’ve run countless tests on this using battle damage calculators, and the only reason why Greninja lasted as long as he did is because of plot armor. That’s it. Complaining about Lizardon being strong when we’ve seen exactly why he’s strong, and when Greninja pulls off ridiculousness like blocking Thunder Punch with Water Shuriken, is ridiculous. Pull off your stan goggles and look at the situation objectively. There is no way that Greninja should have won. If anything, Ash should have sent Greninja against Tyranitar and should have saved Pikachu for Lizardon. But he didn’t, and that was his mistake, and that is why (from a Watsonian standpoint) he lost, as he should have. (Because the Doylist standpoint is that the writers will never have Ash win a regional League because that would mean ending the show, and all adult fans should be aware of this by now. There’s no excuse for being shocked that Ash didn’t win when you’ve seen all the preceding sagas. None.)

So yeah, it’s all nonsense, and it has been nonsense since the beginning. People insist on hating Alan solely because he defeated Ash, and they project onto / self-insert into Ash so hard that they’ve lost all shreds of objectivity and can’t look at the situation logically. I get identifying with your fave, because good god do I identify with Alan, but at the same time you’ve got to be able to have some objectivity in the situation. You don’t see me complaining about the fact that Alan lost to Siebold, or the fact that he and Lizardon both got curbstomped by the Hoenn legendaries (to the point where, again, they nearly died). I accept those losses for the genuine defeats they were, and don’t hold it against the other characters. It would be nice if the Ash stans who bash Alan over his well-earned Kalos League victory could do the same.
