For the Get Messy class Pieces - this is for the Symbolism assignment to pick a person, figure out some symbols for that person, then make a journal page/spread with those symbols. I was contemplating whether using Sidney Crosby was going to be too easy when I looked outside to see a guy wearing a red hoodie (symbolizes Canada) carrying a yellow and black umbrella (symbolizes the Pittsburgh Penguins). Ok. I can take a hint.
"The black-footed penguin from southern Africa is very common in zoos. It walks with the slightly unbalanced waddle of all penguins." *a-hem*
I made a little book in the upper left corner of the spread using part of the box from Pop!Sidney Crosby and two playing cards (8 and 7, of course):
"Sidney Crosby, born 8-7-87... Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins... also known for his distinctive waddle/walk... WINTER, ICE, PENGUINS, 87, HOCKEY, CANADA"
Coloring sheet, acrylic ink, gesso, tissue paper, matte medium, washi tape, stickers, collage, Pilot Plume fountain pen, Posca paint pen, zInk photo sticker.

If Sidney Crosby were any more The Chosen One, he’d have a lightning bolt scar on his forehead.

Used a marker to scribble many layers of the lyrics to Jill Sobule’s song “Heroes” (below) on an index card - and then across a zINK photo of Sidney Crosby. (Dammit, Sid) (Also, Pittsburgh Penguins, no!)
(And of course, the answer to the question in the first line [and scrawled across the photo] is that they are just as human as we are.)
Why are all our heroes so imperfect Why do they always bring me down Why are all our heroes so imperfect The statue in the park has lost his crown
William Faulkner drunk and depressed Dorothy Parker mean, drunk and depressed And that guy in Seven Years in Tibet turned out to be a nazi The founding fathers all had slaves, the explorers slaughtered the braves The Old Testament God can be so petty
Paul McCartney jealous of John, even more so now that he's gone Dylan was so mean to Donovan in that movie Pablo Picasso cruel to his wives My favorite poets took their own lives Orson Welles peaked at 25, ballooned before our eyes And he sold bad wine
Heard Babe Ruth was full of malice Lewis Carroll I'm sure did Alice Plato in the cave with those very young boys TS Elliott hated Jews, FDR didn't save the Jews All the French joined the resistance after the war Raymond Chandler drunk and depressed Tennessee Williams drunk and depressed Think I'll just get drunk and depressed -Jill Sobule, "Heroes"

Things I learned from Sidney Crosby: One of the NHL’s Top Scorers (Jeanne Nagle, 2015):
Quick Fact: When police returned his stolen jersey from the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championships, Sidney decided to auction if off instead of keeping it. He gave the money raised to youth hockey charities and organizations helping those affected by the December 2004 tsunami in South Asia. .... Quick Fact: Sidney made an appearance in two movies, 2008's Pond Hockey and the comedy She's Out of My League, which was released in 2010.*
*Confirmed at imdb.com, although he's uncredited in She's Out of My League.

Let’s be honest: It’s kinda gross and scary Crosby’s back so quickly, given his history, in the first place. Of course he feels like he’s good to go. It’s the damn playoffs against one of his team’s biggest rivals. What’s he gonna say? He doesn’t feel up to it? Crosby of all people is probably one of those “cheats at solitaire” hyper-competitive people. That’s a big part of what makes him Sidney Crosby.

First off, can we retire this Sidney Crosby-gets-preferential-treatment nonsense?
David Steckel wasn’t suspended. Victor Hedman wasn’t suspended. Marc Staal dropped more lumber on Crosby’s head than a forklift at Home Depot and wasn’t suspended.
- Greg Wyshynski, Rangers coach: Wrong on Sidney Crosby, maybe right on Simmonds ban?
YES. THIS.

Ouch
All things being equal, if fate is kind to Sidney Crosby and allows him to play out his career without falling prey to serious injury or other unfortunate circumstances, the young man from Cole Harbour should have a special NHL career indeed.

Will Sidney Crosby steal his hockey mojo back from Nathan McKinnon in tonight’s game against the Avs???
Will Sid be more wary when training with friends in the summer from now on?
