WIP Challenge
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.
Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have WIPs. (You can make your own post or reblog this one!)
I have deemed that this isnât just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? DND campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!
Tagged by: @sassybratt9791 @phoenix-before-the-flame
Okaaaaay so. My WIPs are a little scattered, between the actual writing folder and then the docs where I cram snippets of things until it needs its own doc. I also have way too many, so Iâm just going to stick to the current(ish) ones that I am more-or-less actively thinking about or recently made. (And not counting my random doodle stuff for art, just the ongoing-but-started projects.) So anyway. Time to out myself, just a bit. Thanks guys.

By paring away the random stuff that I have no intention of finishing, or old WIPs, and not including any of my (many) note documents, this is really only the tip of the iceberg...but I guess thatâs naturally when Iâve been Like This for over a decade.Â

Thoughts on Decade Vs Zi-O ending
So, to add to my opinion on Rider Time, I...personally think that some of it could've been done better as a whole.
Yes, having the Decade cast back was GREAT. So much nostalgic joy for me!
I just wish the story was done differently that....did them justice.
For example, I wanted Narutaki to actually reveal what and who he really was (basically sharing his origin). And as a result, I also wanted him and Tsukasa to actually fight and put an end to Narutaki's undying hatred for Decade. By extension, Tsukasa's victory would prove Narutaki wrong and have him realize that he needs to give up his vendetta against the magenta clad rider.
I also wished it went into what the group has been doing since the end of Decade. We didnât see Sayo or Natsumi at all.
As for the final chapter, I actually wanted Onodera, not Sougo, to defeat Ohma Zi-O. How this would happen, to me, would be that everyone is heavily injured and nearly defeated. Just as Ohma Zi-O is about to claim victory, Narutaki attempts to sacrifice himself by using his own body as a shield for the riders, telling the protagonists to evolve Kuuga to the point where he can stop Ohma Zi-O.
If the SIC Hero Saga is canon, then the Decade cast will know what Narutaki means by that.
Tsukasa, Onodera, and Sougo agree and transform to use electric attacks on Kuuga in Rising Ultimate, thus transforming him into Super Rising Ultimate. After Ohma Zi-O kills Narutaki, he and Kuuga have a duel. Ohma Zi-O will be very surprised by Onodera's power....and maybe scared of it. Soon, Kuuga is victorious, but doesn't initially destroy Ohma Zi-O. Instead, Onodera gives him the choice to surrender and stop his destructive ways.
Ohma Zi-O refuses, before attempting to attack Tsukasa, only to be stopped by Kuuga. Reluctantly, Kuuga uses a rider kick to destroy Ohma Zi-O, before throwing the dark rider's body into space, where Ohma Zi-O explodes, leaving Earth and its inhabitants unharmed. Afterwards, Onodera convinces Sougo to join the Decade cast's journey. Tsukasa then happily says that their journey is over...and agrees to help Sougo with his own.

Untold Tales of Spider-Man 14: My Enemy, My Savior â by Eric Fein
Meh
This storyâs title page features a great John Romita, Sr. illustration of J. Jonah Jameson sweating it out as he watches Spidey fighting the Scorpion on a viewscreen, with Alistair Smythe gaping at him from another screen. (We donât know where Jonah is but will soon find out that heâs inside a spider-slayer.) Thatâs a good way to start.
In the story itself, J. Jonah Jameson has just won the Humanitarian of the Year Award, chosen by the citizens of New York City. After working late at the office on his acceptance speech, he climbs into his limo, heading for home. But suddenly, the limo swerves out of control, running up on the sidewalk. The driver claims he canât release his foot from the gas and the car is not responding to his actions. When he tries to turn the ignition off, he convulses and falls unconscious. The car drives into a dead-end alley and crashes into the wall. JJJ, bloodied and dizzy, crawls out of the car. Before falling unconscious, Jonah sees âthe form of a large man approaching him.âLike that scene? Here it is again from a different perspective. A man âat a control console in a dimly lit labâ watches JJJ get into his limo. He presses a button and a âspiderlike droidâ attaches to the carâs rear bumper. The man pushes another button. The spider-droid shoots out âa bundle of fiber-optic tendrils.â Some of them attach to the steering column. Others bore âthrough the floorboard: where they grab âthe driverâs right foot, attaching it to the gas pedal.â These tendrils contract, forcing the driverâs foot down on the gas. After the limo crashes, the man speaks âinto a commlink,â saying, âMr. Gargan, our prey has been subdued. Please, take the necessary action.â Those of us in the know recognize Gargan as the real name of the Scorpion. Of course, those of us who looked at Johnnyâs opening illustration already know the Scorpion and Smythe are the villains in this piece.Meanwhile, Spider-Man webs his way to the Daily Bugle. He drops down into a nearby alley, changes to Peter Parker, and takes his latest pix of Spidey battling the Rhino to the city room. There he finds all sorts of frantic activity. Robbie Robertson tells him that âJonahâs missingâ and presumed kidnapped âor worse.â Kate Cushing sends Peter to the crime scene to get some photos. âIâm sure Jonah will be all right,â Peter says, âHeâs a tough old goat.âJust then, JJJ wakes up, chained down on a hospital gurney in a lab. He sees âa large mechanical construct twenty feet tall and ten feet wide, surrounded by scaffolding and held up by suspension cables.â âSeveral smaller robotsâ service it. The labâs resident reveals himself as Alistair Smythe, which makes Jonah realize that the robots are spider-slayers. Smythe tells JJJ that he has âinherited my fatherâs journals and his lab equipment. And I have inherited his crusade. My fatherâs enemies became my enemies.â And, for Jonahâs pressuring of Spencer Smythe into making more slayers, Alistair blames the publisher for his fatherâs death.
Then Mac Gargan joins the conversation. Smythe says he and Gargan ârecently crossed paths and he explained to me how he was another victim of your crusade,â of how Jonah financed Garganâs transformation into the Scorpion with âno thought to the psychological damage the treatments had done to Gargan.â (These guys sort of have a point.) When they learned of Jonahâs Humanitarian of the Year award, âthe hypocrisy [was] too muchâŚto swallow.â So Smythe built a giant spider-slayer designed to carry Jameson as a helpless passenger. âIâm going to arrange for you to finally be the hero youâve spent years saying you are, by letting you destroy your favorite public enemy, Spider-Man,â Smythe tells Jonah, âOf course, there is the chance that Spider-Man will finish you off first.â With that, the Scorpion loads JJJ into the giant slayer. Some time later, Spidey is on the Daily Bugle buildingâs roof expecting an attack. He has received a tip from a âstreet sourceâ about an event at the Bugle. âAnd the guy behind it was the Scorpion.â When the giant spider-slayer attacks, Spidey knows that Smythe is also involved. He grapples with the robot.Â
Just when he thinks he has won, the slayer jettisons four legs. One of them wraps around Spideyâs leg and administers an electrical shock. Ignoring the pain and further shocks, Spidey rips it away from his leg. Whereupon the slayer blasts a hole in the roof.Inside the slayer, JJJ winces at the destruction to his building. As the slayer burrows from floor to floor, attacking innocent people, he starts to wish that Spidey would stop the robot. âWhat a revelation,â says Smythe over the radio, âRooting for your greatest enemy to succeed.â And, sure enough, Spidey yanks on some wiring and circuitry and stops the slayer, only to have a voice announce, âThis mechanism will self-destruct in sixty seconds.â Hearing this, Spidey picks up the slayer, takes it to the roof, and throws it toward the East River. As soon as he does, the Scorpion attacks him. But the Scorpion also opens his big mouth, saying, âFirst you knock off Jameson for me, then I kick your butt.â Realizing that Jonah must be inside the slayer, Spidey puts a spider-tracer on Scorpy, snags the robot with his webbing and climbs onto its back.Even as Smythe taunts Jonah, Spidey rips the top off the slayer, climbs in and frees JJJ from his bonds.Â
But then the slayer lands in the river. Spidey drags Jonah, who is âunconscious and very paleâ from the wreckage and brings him to shore. Just as he is about to administer mouth-to-mouth, Jonah comes to. Spidey promises to bring help and tries to web-sling away, only to find his shooters clogged up with âriver muck.âThe Scorpion is ready to celebrate the deaths of his greatest enemies but Smythe tells him both Spidey and JJ are still alive. âI saw you disobey my direct orders by making yourself known to Spider-Man before Jameson was dead. As a matter of fact, because of your big mouth, theyâre both alive,â Smythe says, adding, âYouâve ruined everything, you thickheaded lout! I should kill you, but I have more important things to do. So just get out.â Scorpy doesnât take well to this and attacks Smythe with a âstinger-blast.â Smythe sics his mini-slayers on Gargan. Then Spidey shows up, having followed his tracer (and he had extra web-fluid in his belt) and defeats both foes.Â
Rather too easily, unfortunately. As he does so, he says something that may well be the theme of this story, âOh, here we go again, another chorus of âMy life stinks and itâs all your fault.â Well, let me tell you something, bug-boy, Iâve had it with you idiots. Neither one of you can admit to the fact that youâre both responsible for the shambles that your lives have become. Yeah, Jameson helped by making the offer or funding the projects. But you dopes embraced his cause all the way.âThe next night, at the Humanitarian of the Year dinner, JJJ gets up and refuses the award. âIt would at this point strike me as hypocritical to accept it,â he says, âhaving just come face to face with two villains whose origins in a small part can be traced to me.â Still, he promises to âcontinue to crusade against the costumed vigilantes and other superpowered crazies that they attract. Especially that menace Spider-Man, who I can assure you exacerbated the problem with Smythe and the Scorpion.â Jonah gets a standing ovation for his speech but Peter doesnât take a photograph. He has changed to Spidey to stop âa band of heavily armed men about to break into the banquet.â And so it goes.
This story was merely okay. Pretty much every story has strived to represent an aspect of Spideyâs mythos and this story zeroes in on Jameson. Whatâs a bit more baffling is the storyâs placement. The prior story was set in the very early 80s during OâNeilâs run on Spidey before Roger Stern. This story though could only occur after ASM #373 as that was when Spidey first encountered Smythe after he became the Ultimate Slayer.
However, given how he went into custody this makes one wonder how Jonah didnât know about Alastairâs upgrade? I can let that go since itâs by no means the first or most egregious fo continuity errors in this anthology thus far. Whatâs more problematic is that weâve jumped from like 1981 all the way to 1993. Which is doubly baffling when you consider this book was put out in 1997. For a book titles âUntold Tales of Spider-Manâ why would you skip over 10 years worth of material in favour of an era less than 5 years old? Surely there would be plenty of great tales to tell during the Alien Costume Saga alone, which would in turn represent the symbiotes, another iconic aspect of the Spidey mythos.
Beyond that there isnât much to say about this story. it was kind of cool to check out Smythe and Scorpion teaming up as they are the two villains most associated with Jonah. But other than that...I mean weâve kind of seen this before havenât we?
Itâs not that itâs poorly executed but itâs just pretty âsame old same oldâ. I suppose you could say the same of âLivewiresâ but at least that told a typical Spidey story set during an oft forgotten era with oft forgotten supporting players. This story is something weâve seen before since the 1960s.
At the end of the day this is a story thatâs skippable as far as entertainment goes but sort of necessary in terms of representing a key component of Spidey lore. From that POV it wouldâve been conspicuous by itâs absence.

WEEK OF TOKU LADIES: DAY 1 (FAVORITE GIRL)
Phew man I really thought Iâd missed this yearâs. Finally gonna get in on this after all this time. I stan Hikari Natsumi so goddamn hard holy shit. Kamen Rider Decade was the very first Kamen Rider show I ever saw (10 years ago dshglkajdglkahdglk I always feel old when I hear folks talk about they got into Rider with Gaim), and Natsumi is a pretty key part of it.
Yeah, I know, Decade is a disaster, Iâm the first to admit that. But, honestly, thatâs kind of one of the many reasons I like it- plenty of wiggle room for headcanons and fanfic. And, by god, thatâs exactly what I did. @hikariphotography was meeeeeeeeeeee. Wrote so much goddamn fanfic thatâs buried somewhere on that blog. I proofread @yuuyatailsâ Nocturne in the Moonlight series back in the day before my shittier, younger self decided he wasnât interested any more. That was a dick move, man, what the fuck. Anyways- back to the main subject...
...for the record, Iâm not sure if I can put into words why I love Natsumi so much. She just struck a chord with me. Sure, I love her chemistry with Tsukasa and I definitely love the fact that sheâs Kamen Rider Kiva-la (which, IMO, paved the way for more lady Riders down the line >.>). But those are small parts of it.
She doesnât take shit from the Destroyer of Worlds, and if you really think about it sheâs one of the most powerful Kamen Riders ever because she beat Decade when he was at full power.
Itâs been 10 years since Decade, and I honestly doubt at this point Natsumi will ever return. Itâs a damn shame, because I for one would love to see her show up and kick some ass. But, hey...considering Zi-O brought back Kamen Rider Aqua, you never know.
Some last words: I called Natsumikan Arms on complete accident. 2-3 years before SIC Hero Saga decided to throw Decade fans a bone, when Gaim was brand-spanking-new I made a shitpost about summer oranges. Man, if only I knew, huh?
Lastly, since there wasnât really a song for Natsumi outside of the music that plays when she transforms into Kamen Rider Kiva-la for the first time on Decadeâs OST, Iâve always looked at Disillusion 2010 from Fate/Stay Night as her theme. Now, mind, Iâm not a Fate fan, I just kinda stumbled upon this song one day...but damn it fits really well. Itâs got that TETRA FANG kind of sound to it, and the lyrics also fit pretty well, too. Graceful, but it still kicks ass.
Anyways, thatâs my post about Natsumi. Iâll try to spit out some fanfic this week if I can manage it but oof college comes first.
#week of toku ladies#kamen rider decade#hikari natsumi#there's no pictures of her as kiva la because i cant find any pictures the same size as these so this'll have to do.

Kamen Rider 45th Anniversary File: The Expanded Universe
Any established and popular medium of entertainment have many franchises expand their world outside the canon of their shows and movies or could fit in if a little imagination is given, with Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor Who being prime examples.
Kamen Rider itself is no stranger to this, as it has stories that do no fit into normal canon but make enjoyable extensions of those stories or possibly could with that aforementioned imagination. The latter is possibly true if the people writing it are from the shows themselves, but a grain of salt must be taken as things, events or people might not match up properly to the source or outright be disregarded.
Manga
First and foremost is Manga, the medium the series was born from by way its creator being a manga writer and artist.Â
Kamen Rider Spirits was already discussed and it got its own file...due to how massively long the book is now.
There are original stories such as 7 Riders Showdown, which from what data we have gathered is a WEIRD one: Basically, the Legendary 7 and Tackle battle General Shadow and Black Satan who plot to destroy the world by summoning Daimajin using King Kong and several famous giant landmarks Â
These famous landmarks and the 8th Wonder of the World are then used to attack the Kamen Riders!Â
At one point, Kamen Rider 1 battles the Statue of Liberty and later the Legendary Seven battle a sentient Great Sphinx of Giza! (Because Comics!)
However it is sadly not canon due to Tackle being christened by her seniors as âthe 8th Kamen Riderâ (This was before her death was planned in the Stronger TV show so that was not going to stick).
There is also the re-imagining of a series with Kamen Rider Kuuga, which tries to re-work certain events in the TV show or make brand new ones such as having the Agitos appear in Kuugaâs story and seeing the development of the G-Series exosuits with Kamen Rider G1. The story features more gore and violence than even the TV show would allow. (Based on scant images found in the search engines and HERO trailers)
Sometimes the manga previewed what was to come, but not in the detail the shows would go to and be drastically different. A prime example would be the original Kamen Rider manga, as it starts out the same as the TV series but then deviates.Â
Both the Kamen Rider ZX manga and the Kamen Rider Shin manga came before their respective special/movie. In the case of ZX, his manga came a full two years before his TV special and a radio drama aired with yet more adventures of the daring ninja Rider.Â
(Sorry, not much data on the Shin or ZX ones other than that yet, I canât even find the ISBNs! The internet just tells me âIt existsâ. One of the pitfalls of older mangas of the pre-internet age.)
That time RX met ZO in the mid-1990s thanks to the creator of Beyblade. (No, really)Â
Then there are adventures that are not canon in any regard, such as the secret origin of Kazuya Taki as Kamen Rider 3 or Hiroshi Tachikawa as the one-shot secondary Rider of Kamen Rider Black (and the only Kamen Rider to wear a leather biker jacket!). There is also the unauthorized Hybrid Insector, which due to legal issues with Toei cannot be published (outside of Comiket).
(Hibiki and the Seven Senki manga)
Lastly, we have adaptations of the Movies. Some are straight adaptations while other serve as a âDirectorâs Cutâ unto themselves with small or major changes to the story making it a new experience. For example, in the All Rider vs. Dai-Shocker manga, Tsukasa Kadoya isnât really the Great Leader, just a tool that the villains used to carry out their plans and Decade openly rejects them and does not go all evil. Also, no cameo from Double, so thatâs kind of a bummer.
Novels
(The 1994 Kamen Rider J novel adaptation written by Shozo Uehara and Shotaro Ishinomori. It expands the story of the movie by giving the details left out of the main plot. It is also very rare and difficult to get a hold of. ISBN #: 978-4094401028 )
Books are written about the series, with the most recent being the Heisei Novel book series. The Heisei novels have alternate reality story versions of Riders or extra âEpisodeâ stories written by the staff of specific series. Some of them are actually canon, as they explain details left out of the show or continue the stories of a hero or villain.Â
For example, the Double Novel is set in-between episodes 32 and 33 and shows how Phillip got his Lost Driver as well as the first appearance of Kamen Rider Cyclone.Â
An example of an alternate story is the Decade Novel, as it reveals that Narutaki...is a demonic red vampire who wants to suck the blood/energy of the 9 Kamen Riders. (Yeah, this was edited by Inoue so that makes absolutely no sense). One cool one is the Hibiki novel, which is set in an alternate Sengoku era and has the Hibiki of that world team up with Henshin Ninja Arashi!
Not all of them are fun though, Kamen Rider Faiz Seiden: Deformed Flowers is a novel the western fandom hates for introducing the dark subject of rape. To be more specific, the rape of Mari Sonada at the hands of Masato Kusaka aka Kamen Rider Kaixa. Not just any rape mind you, underage rape as Mari is a 16 year old girl in the series. (Yes, I know about the legality of consent in Japan but itâs still wrong). Inoue really wanted to push the idea Masato was an irredeemable monster. Thankfully, this kind of thing NEVER showed up again in the franchise as some saw it in poor taste.
SIC HERO SAGA
S.I.C. Hero Saga is a diorama story that uses figurines, sets and text to tell a story. They are a segment featured in Monthly Hobby Japan Magazine. All sorts of wild and crazy stuff happens in these stories and feature designs by Takayuki Takeya. Some stories are re-imaginings of events in a specific series or film while others are original ideas such as a Blade story where Garren and Leangle obtain King Forms or a story where Yusuke Onodera reveals that Garo is a TV show in the Kamen Rider Universe!Â
(An in-joke reference to Masahiro Inoue as the villain of the sixth Garo season and Mr. Takeya is the character designer of the Horrors on that show)
We also get original Riders and cool ideas such as...
Kamen Rider Rebirth
Kamen Rider Gaim Natsumikan Arms
Shocker OOO
Kamen Rider G1
Shotaro Ishinomori as Kamen Rider Doubleâs right half
Kamen Rider Ouja Survive
Kamen Rider Ryuga Survive
Final Form Ride: OOO- OOO Armor
Final Form Ride: Stronger - Strong Zecter
And many more!
Video Games
Most video games in the franchise are basic and lack a story (a good portion of them are fighting games in terms of console games).Â
But the most interesting are the ones that try to tell a story to go with the gameplay. The Battride War Series centers around the Riders having a new force challenge them in different ways from an agent of Foundation X abducting them and wiping their memories to Shadow Moon reviving and trying to erase all Kamen Riders from time out of revenge.Â
The All Kamen Rider Series has the Riders being abducted by some malevolent force for the purpose of an experiment or the heroes need to stop a great threat that has revived their old adversaries.
Lastly, there is Kamen Rider: Seigi no Keifu , a crossover between Agito, Black, V3 and 1 and 2. An evil alien force joins with Shocker and opens distortions in time in a plot to bring the future and the past together so it can absorb the stone of the Century King to become all powerful. It is up to Kamen Riders from 4 different points in time to defeat those allied with the alien and save the world by destroying the extraterrestrial menace.
Hyper Battle Videos
Hyper Battle Videos are exclusive âbonus episodesâ of the series that have no continuity with the main show (At least until recently with Drive and Ghost which had references to past events or the trinket of the video showing up again). They are silly at times and non-sensical, sometimes in contrast to the original show it is from. The main draw of these videos are the original power ups, gear and finishers the Riders pull off in the video.
youtube
(A montage of finishers and forms seen in this direct to video series up to Ghost.) *apologies if this no longer works*
Stage Shows
Stage shows are the hardest to cover as they are not well documented after a certain time period. The basis is that in a theme park, mall or stadium, a theatrical performance is shown featuring the Kamen Riders. The stories are original and sometime feature audience participation (ex. cheering on the heroes). There are also original Riders and villains that appear such as the evil Kamen Rider Maja. Sometimes, the Riders will get help from other superheroes such as Sentai Rangers, Metal Heroes or even Kikaider or some other hero!
Some Stage shows serve as a âFinal Episodeâ to a show and are canon, though that is somewhat rare. Special stage shows feature the actors playing the roles themselves live, while others were staged with pre-recorded voices. Some even feature interviews with the cast to a live audience and special performances by artists who sing the theme songs or the cast themselves singing.
One of them was the first full musical of Kamen Rider:Â
youtube
And with that, I wish you Arigatou for reading and see you next file!

Daredevil Countdown: 8 Days
Trailer #1 Analysis
We barely had time to recover from Iron Fist Season 2 before Netflix started dumping Daredevil content on us, and itâs been tough to keep up! We were away minding our own business at NYCC when this trailer dropped, and weâve only just started to pick through it. There are some major revelations in this thing, which Iâm very excited about. There are also a few scenes excerpted here that we saw in their entirety at NYCC, so while Iâll try to keep spoilers to a minimum, expect some minor ones.
Is it geeky to get a kick out of Matt saying this? Because this makes me really happy. He has spent so much time struggling with his superhero identity that just hearing him call himself Daredevil is thrilling. Also, the background seems to suggest that heâs in the church, and may therefore be saying this to Maggie... which is good, because in one of the scenes we saw at NYCC, she called him âthe Devil of Hellâs Kitchenâ and I nearly pitched a fit.Â
We saw this scene, so I wonât go into details... beyond saying that it kicks off what sounds like will be an interesting (read: upsetting) relationship between Fisk and the FBI, and as well as Fiskâs manipulation of the justice system and the city as a whole this season. He is getting out of prison and aiming to reclaim  his throne, and this trailer gives us hints of some of the pawns he will be using to make that happen.Â
  Hey look, itâs Rosalie Carbone!
And weâve mentioned it before, because itâs been in a bunch of the promos, but itâs great to finally have Fisk in his comics-accurate white suit! He looks great.Â
Weâre also finally getting Sister Maggie! In the comics, of course, Maggie is Mattâs long-lost mother. In the show, we know that she works at the orphanage where Matt ended up after Jackâs death, and that she will be providing him some degree of emotional support (not to mention medical help...) following his near-death experience under Midland Circle. Their relationship is very strange, and in the comics theyâve spent a long time trying to negotiate their dynamic. They go back and forth on their degree of emotional closeness (depending on the writer), and while they will likely never have a parent/child relationship in the traditional sense, they do hold deep significance in each otherâs lives. Whether that will become true in the show remains to be seen, but at the very least, Maggie will clearly act as a confidante for Matt during this difficult time.Â
This is one of several highly intriguing interactions between Matt and Fisk in this trailer. The surveillance is particularly interesting. It ties into the suggestion later in the trailer that Fisk will develop some control over media surveillance (in the comics he buys his own radio station during Chichesterâs run). It also gives me a small amount of hope that we might get expert media manipulator Jonathan Powers (AKA the Jester) in the show, because that would be really cool. But why is Matt in a doctorâs office in a suit? The framing of this scene is great, and I really need to know whatâs going on here.Â
Matt channeling that Stick vibe is something I never knew I needed. And this is another intriguing interaction between these two. What is the context here? For now, I love how cocky Matt sounds in this clip. Clearly, his spirit has not been broken (yet?) by this point.Â
At NYCC, there was some mention of a scene that would rival the hallway scene from Season 1. This may be it. Iâm already pumped about this, because I love when Matt fights in civvies! If I were to guess what was going on here, Iâd assume these are prisoners in Fiskâs pocket who have been instructed to take Matt out. This has serious âDevil in Cell Block Dâ (a story arc in which Matt is sent to prison) vibes, and that is very exciting. Whether or not the actual story draws from that arc, just a reference to the tone or basic concept would be awesome.Â
After two full seasons of teasing, weâre finally getting a Gladiator origin! Back in our Season 2 countdown, I wrote a post detailing Melvin Potterâs story in the comics, hoping that it would be adapted soon. The show has already laid down several key elements of his character: his vulnerability (particularly in regards to being manipulated by the people around him) and the tug-of-war between his gentle nature and his capacity for violence. In the comics, many of Melvinâs most compelling stories cover this struggle, as Matt and Betsy Beatty (Melvinâs social worker-turned-girlfriend) attempt to help him suppress the dangerous, out-of-control side of himself. As we see later in the trailer, Fisk is going to start using Melvin for his own ends again this season, thus pushing him to protect himself and Betsy by becoming the Gladiator.Â
Yet another oddly candid moment between Matt and Fisk. This is so uncanny that I almost wonder if itâs a hallucination. Itâs also worth noting Mattâs lack of sunglasses in these scenes. In both the comics and the show, the glasses serve Matt as a type of mask, and his scenes are given an added layer of intimacy and exposure when he takes them off. Regardless of context, itâs clear that Fisk will be seeing Matt this season at his most vulnerable, with all facades and pretext removed. Which brings us to that quote...Â
Get excited, because it looks like weâre finally getting some big deal Daredevil Secret Identity Shenanigans(TM)! Matt having his secret identity exposed is a longtime Daredevil tradition; such a pervasive plot point that even Matt has begun joking about it.Â
Daredevil vol. 3 #7 by Mark Waid, Paolo Rivera, and Javier Rodriguez
Going all the way back to the Mike Murdock Saga in the 60s, Matt has struggled with keeping his double life hidden-- a surprisingly challenging task for a blind guy without outwardly obvious superpowers. Ben Urich figured it out through research and deduction, and while he has remained loyal in keeping Mattâs secret, a fellow reporter once nearly stole his notes and made them public. In âBorn Againâ, the Kingpin found out and used the information to ruin his life. Later, one of the Kingpinâs underlings sold the information to the FBI, which then made its way into the newspapers. Recently, with his secrets being used as blackmail, Matt decided to make his identity public. He has gone to extreme lengths over the years-- faking his death, lying under oath, creating various alternate personalities-- to protect his dual identity, and the thought of seeing him finally faced with this same challenge in the show is very exciting.
Melvin:Â âI donât like it. I know who you work for, Felix. And the Kingpin is never up to anything good.â
Felix:Â âWhat is there not to like, Potter? You construct costumes. I am heretowith commissioning from yourself a costume. Said costume being one you are infinitely familiar with-- during such time frame as before you did renunciate your status as a prominent member of the criminal class to open this shop within which we now converse. Speaking of this most neatly custodiated establishment, we will summarily execute its premature demolition-- not to mention the removement [sic]Â of your most valued body parts-- should you perchance fail to render unto us a perfect duplicate of the uniform of a certain Man Without Fear.â
Daredevil vol. 1 #230 by Frank Miller, David Mazzucchelli, and Christie Scheele
As we know, thatâs going to be Bullseyeâs costume. This is a combination of two plot points: one from âBorn Againâ (above) in which Fisk commissions a DD suit from Melvin to give to a convicted murderer, who he sends to kill Foggy, and one from Nocentiâs run in which Bullseye himself runs around causing chaos as Daredevil.Â
As indicated above (and just like he attempted in Season 1), Fisk is out to ruin Daredevil (and maaaaybe also Matt Murdock?)âs reputation, even more than Matt might manage all on his own.  Â
This is a terrifying image, because it brings to mind Karenâs funeral in âGuardian Devilâ. But a bunch of the people in the audience are smiling, so hopefully not... Â
...Unfortunately, theyâre still screwed. Bullseye in the church is both a âGuardian Devilâ reference and (even better) a movie reference!
We were shown this scene at NYCC, and it is awesome! I canât wait for everyone to see it, so that I can talk about what makes it so great. Itâs an absolutely killer fight scene that emphasizes just how intense Bullseye is as an opponent when handled well. And Iâm not going to spoil this moment in particular... All Iâll say is that itâs something weâve all been waiting for for two damn seasons, and when it happened at the panel, the whole room screamed.Â
*Cough* Donât worry, thatâs not Bullseye.Â
Also, there is not nearly enough Foggy and Karen in this trailer.Â
Bullseye:Â âYup! Iâm Daredevil now. I wonder-- itâs been easy to play the bad guy-- maybe too easy. Be kinda fun to play the hero. After all, I am Daredevil!â
Daredevil vol. 1 #290 by Ann Nocenti, Kieron Dwyer, and Steve Buccellato
As mentioned above, Bullseye will be prompted by Fisk to run around as Daredevil, ruining Mattâs reputation. Both actors have talked a little bit about Fiskâs manipulation of Dex, and the fact that this will play a large part in the latterâs turn to villainy. In the final arc of her run, Ann Nocenti penned a story in which Bullseye and Daredevil switched costumes, resulting in an intense exploration of villainy and heroism, and of their bizarre relationship as nemeses. In the show, it should be fun-- and probably a little horrifying too-- to see how this jumbling of identities affects how Matt and Dex see themselves and each other.Â
  T-minus one week!

oh, by the way! the other day I actually finished that affinity list for FE15 characters but Iâve been forgetting to post it so I hope youâre all ready for a whole shitton of âyou know what this character is a lot like that one other character from a game that has canon affinitiesâ
Alm - Light y'know, part of my exercises in attempting to make a regular FE cast out of a series-wide arrange of characters with the best FE Heroes poll results was in workshopping affinities for the characters that made the list. when I started attempting this, Echoes wasn't remotely out yet. I've since discarded the progress I've made on that front, due to the recent changes in the roster as per the link I've just shared and also because when that happened Echoes was much closer to being out. regardless, I'll probably end up bringing up the initial affinity impressions I've had at that point for the Gaiden characters who made it to the initial roster, even though I've (rather predictably) doubled back on most of them this side of Echoes being out. Alm is a big case of this happening. when his sparse characterisation in Gaiden coupled with his Awakening lines made it popular read him as the genocidal scourge of Rigel, I had a good time chucking him into the Ice affinity where not one other FE protagonist would fit. well, for better or for worse (and mostly for the better), those times are now over. Alm in Echoes is not without compassion for his enemies or with a very strong impetus towards revenge; he's just young, in over his head, and a little too eager to please, and that eagerness took him in a questionable (if not necessarily wrong, per se) direction when he felt that pushing back against Rigel is what people wanted. he actually hits many of the same notes as Seliph, although his discomforts with leadership seem to be less inherent (as with Seliph) than they're just naturally stemming from the fact that he's a young boy who just keeps suddenly ending up with more responsibility than he thought he was in for. and he ultimately grows into the roles he keeps being given with little further complaint, and it's all because he enjoys the upshot of it all: getting to help more people. and for someone who's always so inclined towards doing right by others, almost unidirectionally, I can't think of a better affinity than Light.
Celica - Thunder unlike her co-protagonist, Celica doesn't require any sort of analysis to be read as having a Light affinity; I'd expect that this is would be most of anyone's initial impulse. but she's, ah... not nearly enough of a pushover for that. when she talks about her mission, she does so with a kind of steely resolve that can only run much deeper than just a desire to do the right thing; each of her decisions mean something important to her, and for that, she's ever glad to take matters into her own hands, even those closest to her desperately wish she'd be more willing to let everyone else lift some of the load as well. and just like Alm sometimes risks everything out of his unwillingness to disappoint, so Celica's weakness is not listening to other people's thoughts when she's made up her mind, which is how she ends up handing her soul over to Jedah despite as many people as possible telling her not to do it. this principled, yet stubborn attitude is definitely the way of Thunder characters like Selena and Jill, and we can only be very relieved that Celica's tendencies mostly pointed her in directions unlike the sorts those two have ended up in.
Gray - Fire this guy has so much in common with Sain, I was this close to calling it a Wind, but there's an all-important difference: where that affinity's crowd tends to be more dreamy and detached, Gray is actually pretty down-to-earth in spite of his rather humorous openness. his flirty side strikes me as more a social butterfly thing than Sain's floweriness, for one (at least, well, in any context but his supports with Clair). overall, he's more than anything else friendly and easygoing, the way of a Guy or a Ross.
Tobin - Anima/Earth painfully awkward, but level-headed, observant, and clear in his ways of thinking -- this one's pretty straightforward, the way Anima characters can often be.
Kliff - Wind OR Ice so this one is also one where I had a pre-Echoes assignment for Poll Heroes. at that point, whatever little character he had seemed pointedly Wind, being the right amount of free-spiritedness and, as per his ending, dreamy wanderlust. this side of Echoes, those traits were kept and driven in further, but at the same time, he also gained a new and very marked personality trait: a mean, haughty streak that would really not land him out of place with the likes of Raigh and Raven. and I kind of wanted to think that this isn't entirely out of left field for a Wind character either, but there isn't anyone quite that mean on the canon listings; at worst you get some lighthearted snarkers like Haar and Bastian. still, it's not as if pushing the frontier is enough reason to demand a change in affinity... so it's honestly easy to argue either way for him. and to make matters worse -- he's very withdrawn and his ch3 base convo implies he has something of a history with secrets, so he wouldn't be out of place as a Darkness character either, although at this point I'm still feeling Wind and Ice more strongly for him.
Faye - the shit writing affinity it speaks vollumes that I feel like I can only possibly ground her primary characterization on anything that makes sense if I review her lines from the prologue and/or in battle situations. this is also something I don't feel like doing.
Lukas - Anima/Earth with his whole "cold observer" thing, Ice is a mighty tempting affinity for him, but Anima/Earth fits that bill just as well and also works for Lukas in a number of ways that Ice doesn't. he's not quite mean, aloof, or detached enough to really seem like an Ice; his quiet is more poise than lack of concern or dismissal. all in all, Anima/Earth is a solid affinity for the character who silently yet gladly takes on the role of Team Babysitter, the way Oswin, Oscar, and Nolan are all known to. that said, there's also that whole other way to read his character: for those whom Lukas strikes as being much more stirred than he ever lets on -- between Clive/Lukas B and the way he's deadpan about his awful backstory -- the obvious affinity would be Darkness.
Silque - Ice I'll freely admit she's a hard one to read whatsoever -- and maybe I'd have more material to work with if Faye hadn't fucked this one up for us all -- so the most I can seem to observe in her character is this aloof elegance. and maybe it's just par for the setting, but there are some precious few moments when she shows something of a lowkey judgemental side... but really, this is not one of the assessments I'd be very attached to; if you've got a better idea, you can probably argue it better
Clair - Thunder proud and stubborn and- you know what, I could just copypaste my rationale for making Lachesis this affinity when I was analyzing FE4. in fact, I'm gonna do that. Iâm kind of tempted to put her down for Thunder just because sheâd match Clarine that way, tbh (sic)
Forsyth - Thunder being as square as he is, Forsyth could've easily ended up on the Anima/Earth bin, where he can be in the company of such spoilsports as Kent and Oswin -- but it's actually not that simple. for all his veneer of orderliness and properness, this is still a guy who gave up on a quiet and safe life to run after a goose chase of a dream that never had a chance to come true, and only got anything remotely close to that as a result of plentiful fortunate circumstances. besides, when he's trying to whip Python into shape, he doesn't resemble, say, Kent trying to whip Sain into shape -- whereas the former pair's dynamic sounds more "ugh, please stop being an idiot and do this properly", Forsyth's beef with Python is over a lack of commitment. because that's what's really Forsyth's primary characteristic: the kind of commitment that can only stem from a Thunder-affinity character, even if he's basically committed to becoming what an Anima/Earth character might just naturally be.
Python - Wind in his own words, he lives carefree, which is exactly the way Wind characters are when they're left to their own devices. he's certainly got a combination of Ranulf's sense of humour (or even Wil's loose tongue) and Haar's boldfaced laziness.
Clive - Light he's idealistic enough for the part -- to the point that what keeps bending him and bringing out some of the worst in him over the course of the story is that not all things play out like the pretty design he had in his head. to name one, he's fine with putting some farmboy climbing the social ladders as the leader of his resistance band so as long as it makes him feel good for being so nice to peasants and giving the common soldier a leader they can identify with, but itâs rougher on him when Alm starts talking back to him and making decisions he doesn't agree with.
Boey - Anima/Earth there's something that keeps showing up in his lines, that I kind of get but can't seem to describe... but in any case, he's pretty much the Tobin of Team Celica, as someone who tries to keep it real but tends to come off more as the short-sighed comic relief than the shrewd realist.
Mae - Thunder I can just say it's Serra's affinity and leave it at that, that should explain everything
Genny - Wind OR Light we're not offered much in actual characterization for her other than shyness, a dreamy, story-loving nature and a dash of helplessness... it's hard to make anything deeper, least of all considering she's pretty young. Wind works with her detached, "this would make such a cool saga" ways, and also with the fact that her ending will show she's willing to troll people about her choice in romantic partners; Light would reinterpret her love of stories as a sort of idealism, and also focus on her helpless but earnest side, where she's similar to characters like Florina.
Saber - Ice aloof, gruff, and with a bad reputation to boot -- even if we know that Saber gets to be much more attentive and supportive than he seems to be, or frankly wishes he were, his nurturing side still tends to be more like "that sounds stupid but I'm here for it" than anything warmer and more earnest.
Valbar - Fire this is another one I had a pre-Echoes take on, and that one was Thunder -- it made perfect sense, since Gaiden doesn't give you anything more on the guy than the fact that he's willing to all but suicide attack a whole bunch of pirates in the name of revenge. this side of Echoes, though, that part of his characterization now seems to be more of an understandably extreme reaction to grief, while his natural disposition is just friendly and charmingly boisterous in a way that strikes me much more as Fire.
Leon - Light deep down under all his quirks, there seems to be something idealistic, even childish at times. if he can fall in love with someone just because that person was nice to him at a difficult time, that's -- at least, by his own admission -- because he appreciates the beauty of the world; and if he can spend half his dialogue talking about Valbar -- I swear, sometimes he almost annoys me as much as Faye does -- that's because he's sporting this mental checklist of things that make someone The Ideal Man and Valbar has yet to fail any of it. plus, well, for better or for worse, this is also Kyza's affinity.
Kamui - Wind aloof, but dreamy, more than anything else helplessly driven by his wanderlust; and on top of all that, just slightly snarky. Kamui is a very straightforward Wind character.
Luthier - Ice also a pretty straightforward assessment: haughty, but awkward; aloof and a little too focused on something that interests him; Luthier is pretty much a living checklist of Ice traits, although he doesn't quite cover the stricter and meaner end of that spectrum (except in that he's almost strict enough when it comes to Delthea -- definitely "almost", though, he's nonwhere near Marcus-level strict). one amusing way to think of it is that Luthier is the exact kind of guy who Pent only barely avoided becoming.
Mathilda - Light time and again she's regarded as being the voice of reason -- and I think that's less in the whole Lukas-esque "cold observer" sense and more in the sense that she's sensible and doesn't lose sight of what's important. it's also worth noting that, unlike Celica above, she's prone to giving others a little too much credit and yielding to particularly persistent characters; from the third Rise of the Deliverance map, plus some of the base game, Clair in particular can play her like a piano just by being very stubborn. maybe that's also how she ends up with that awful ending... (can I go this long without drawing parallels to characters with canon affinities? naaaah. sometimes she's kind of like a Lucius who actually enjoys fighting.)
Delthea - Fire it's rather clear that when Delthea thinks of her dreamy city life, she's thinking of a place where she can go be a social butterfly -- or, as it were, fall in love with someone suavacious. I've also considered Wind as a strong possibility for her but ultimately I get the sense that she's less lashing out against restrictions or being expected to work hard and more against being judged for not really wanting to be a mage. I'm very probably splitting hairs there, but we'd have more established character to build upon if folks would just let Delthea say "fuck" every once in a while.
Palla - Anima/Earth I'll have to admit that Akaneia characterization isn't fresh in my head at the present moment -- however sparse it can be -- but most of what I remember about Palla is her just incorporating that whole The Big Sister (TM) Archetype without a complaint, which is just another way of being the Team Babysitter as Lukas above is.
Catria - Ice this one's also gonna have to work off her FE15 characterization primarily, but anyways! as affecionate as she is deep down, she's pretty aloof and she'll be curt and critical sometimes; this bill probably suits her fine.
Atlas - Fire a big-hearted guy of very simple ways, to the point that even directly befriending a queen-to-be won't draw him away from going back to his village and becoming a simple lumberjack. he's really like a bar-brawling, trash-talking version of Dorcas.
Jesse - Light he just loves playing the hero, right to the point that he'll bog himself down doing it (like, say, by trying to take on a horde of desert bandits alone and ending up captured by them). he's also got the idealism to boot, what with this whole idea for a mercenary's country. and I mean, really, I shouldn't need to argue very much to say that Jesse would have the same affinity as Gatrie.
Deen - Darkness full disclosure: I did not pick him on my first and so far only Echoes run, so there's every chance I haven't seen the full picture yet. still, as far as I can see, this guy just drips with Darkness, hitting much of the same edgelord tunes as Rutger does. that said, for all I know he could be more of a Jaffar-type Ice affinity, so maybe I'll really have to see yet.
Sonya - Darkness full of secrets and unwilling to let anyone in for real, but she can't help but let off a glimpse of her truths if it might just help someone she can see herself in -- yeah, she's right at home with Calill and Micaiah, to say the least.
Est - Fire lively and straightforward -- to the point that, at least here in FE15, her sisters seem to enjoy just completely reading her -- she's not very difficult to regard as a Fire. although, between the way she does her unreliable sales pitches (in her support with Catria) and certain Akaneia things that hint at some severe commitment issues, it's tempting to keep Wind in consideration, too...
Nomah - Wind if Bastian should live to see old age, then he'll become the exact person that Nomah is. ... well, a more long-winded version of him, at least.
Tatiana - Fire I've dithered a fair bit here, because for all her ostensible cheeriness, she's got a lot of insecurity and fright in her. as soon as you rescue her, the first thought in her head is "oh god they're going to kill me", and the second thought is "oh god they're going to kill my boyfriend". there's also how she's terrified of her beloved's memories returning, and how she wastes no time in beating herself up over it, and she's even got a base conversation where she expresses her self-doubts about being a good cleric. I couldn't help but wonder whether all this wouldn't make her a surprising Darkness character, really. but it seems like the precedent for having a Fire-like personality and a crushing load of insecurities is still remaining in the Fire affinity (cfr. Nino, Neimi), so dredging all of that up may not have been the best use of my analytical energy after all. harrumph, I say!
Zeke - Thunder OR Darkness between his characterization here and in other games that he totally isn't in, we know exactly two things about our amnesiac knight: that for better or for tragically worse he's loyal to the bitter end, and that he's definitely not a big fan of solving things through normal people communication.
Conrad - Thunder frankly a very tentative assessment since, seriously, for a new character who's meant to be central to the plot, this guy seriously got awful little development, probably being that IS decided to save up all of his big reveal quality for the most obvious detail about him and decided to leave us in the dark about all his other secrets. he's not even really hiding them himself -- no moreso than the plot demands at least -- so I can't just blame it on a Darkness affinity. all I really have on this guy is that, for all that he's ostensibly soft and sensitive, he's mighty stubborn, enough so that 50% of his interactions with Celica, especially as his masked knight self, are just him and her being very stubborn at each other. he's pretty much the only one that won't shut down and back off when Celica pushes back -- kind of gives me the awful impression that maybe he just doesn't listen to her very much, on review. maybe. but yeah, on the one hand he honestly doesn't /really/ sound like a Thunder type, but on the other hand, there are two different people he sounds like, and he won't drop the masked knight persona entirely even after he's stopped hiding his true identity, so I can't think of anything ostensible enough to draw my analysis from. but here's an amusing thought: a couple lines back there I did a typo and noticing I'd written "when Celice pushes back" was freaking hilarious l m a o
Mycen - Ice it's hard to pin down Mycen's true personality, since he's always so busy doing as the plot demands. at least, Clive (in one of the DLC memories) implies that he was already a notorious stoic even before he ended up in a situation where he's always having to put his own feelings aside, but it's hard not to think that he must've already had some façade going on by the time he turned into a Rigel-born Zofia knight. that said, even if it's what the plot (or, as it were, the bizarro alternate reality that a tutorial tends to sound like) demanded, this is a guy who yelled at a bunch of children because they were crying about having to fight a bunch of actual knights. so yeah, I'm not too hesitant to pin him down as, at the very least, the hard taskmaster who still gets his pupils' adoration -- you know, the Marcus way. that said, what wouldn't I give for some additional DLC that delves more into his actual character, and specially into that sweet, sweet Mycen and Nomah backstory...
