From underneath the brim of his cap, gambogeish hues surveillance all components of the traveling subway, soaking in every detail.  Sight entailed the legs and feet of the crowded car, a clash of casual and business clothing.  It was a mixed montage of working adults and high school students, all going their own directions and without a care in the world about anyone else around.  Hearing wise, the sounds of quiet murmurs and the clattering noise of wheels on the track echoed in Shuunsuke's ears; a quiet roar in the back of his mind, a thoughtless sound that he hears day in and day out.

Saitou Shuunsuke was a silent loner, always watching people and keeping them as far from him as possible.

This was supposed to be another typical subway ride, one from Shibuya to Tokyo, and it would have stayed normal if it wasn't for one item that caught the quiet boy's attention, snaring it into a one-track focus.

On a teen girl's bag strap was a small Monokuma charm, tied around the the fabric into a snug loop.  At a basic glance, the two-toned bear face was as average and common as one could get with DanganRonpa merchandise.  Yet on a second look, the cord the charm was on was a golden chain, something that was not at all usual to see.

Was that. . .a rare Monokuma charm?!

For the rest of the subway did Shuunsuke sit and stare at that charm, and when the bag's owner stood up to get off at her stop, the otaku was immediately stepping out as well.  He needed to know where she got that piece of merch!

Once exiting the subway, Shuunsuke walked at a brisk pace--to match the girl's--until finally he was able to reach out and touch her arm.

❝ U-Um, excuse me!  Miss! ❞

Checking the time on his phone once more, Shuunsuke sighed in irritation--where is Ono at?!  He was supposed to arrive at their pre-determined meeting place five minutes ago!  The otaku gazed out through the crowd, annoyance radiating off of him in waves as he tried to see if his companion was close by.  Tardiness was something that he couldn't stand, especially when something direly important was at stake!

Finally, a familiar mop of black locks with purple tips was visible from the hoard of passerbys, and even as the other came to a panting halt beside him, Shuunsuke only gave him a glare.

❝ You're late, Ono! That cafe's DanganRonpa event starts in ten minutes, and it's a twenty-minute walk to get there! ❞

Life was so incredibly. . .dull.  Every day was the same for Saitou Shuunsuke: wake up, attend classes, complete homework, and sleep.  Other people bored him to death-- --so cheerful and full of glee, it was annoying and fake.

Humankind was boring and fake.  Reality was boring and fake.

So that’s why. . .that’s why Shuunsuke found sanctuary in DanganRonpa.  A fictional world full of talent, full of hope and despair. . .so much death, yet life was so much more exciting!  To not know when the next inevitable demise was to occur, and how the murder would be executed. . .the show kept the fanboy at the edge of his seat on the nights a new episode aired, eyes locked onto the screen in eager anticipation.

DanganRonpa was the only reason he continued on living in boring reality, waiting for the day he is able to audition for his dream.

It was another stroll back home, another typical Friday afternoon.  A new episode of DanganRonpa was scheduled for this evening; since it was the season’s third trial, Shuunsuke was re-watching the previous episode on his phone, the investigation, in order to have his own prediction for the culprit.  The answer was obvious to him, but he wouldn’t say that it was the truth yet--a surprise could always occur!. . .even though most of the double murders tend to be sloppy in practice.  Seriously, the blackens need to do better in cleaning up their messes. . . .

Most people subconsciously knew to get out of the way of the distracted boy, so when Shuunsuke ran smack dab into some unfortunate soul, the shock of the impact caused for his phone to fly out of his hand and onto the pavement with a clack!

“ H-Hey, watch where you’re going-- ” Dim grey eyes met strong mauve hues, and whatever words he was about to utter next died on his tongue.

The blonde in front of him looked so. . . .scary!

Your Turn to Die Verse

Edgar Allan Poe is a recent immigrant from the United States to help work for the police force as a consultant in several homicide and kidnapping cases. In addition, he is also a well known writer that aspires for inspiration on a daily basis. 

He lives alone with his pet raccoon, Karl. 

When kidnapped, he was currently investigating the organization that Shuunsuke had been selling certain information to based off of a friend’s hunch. Catching a group in the act, he had also been taken to ensure confidentiality towards what happened. That was all he could recall for the time being.  Karl is not with him, instead at home, likely digging through the trash.

Edgar is not a candidate towards his Death Game. Rather, he is just a participant much like Joe and Nao. There is no percentage of how likely he is to win the game.

If asked, he may recognize the name Megumi Sasahara, but not Keiji Shinogi. He has never worked with either individual.

The glare in his expression softened as the shorter boy explained himself, albeit plainly, but understandable.  Boring real life was a distraction, an annoyance that even the two of them had to endure on a daily basis.  

❝ Ah, you're right! ❞  Of course, Ono was always the one who had his head firmly on his shoulders--Shuunsuke would have most likely stood there for way too long if the other hadn't spoken up!  ❝ C'mon, Ono, let's go so we can get some good seats. ❞  

The otaku's eyes sparkled at the thought of being able to enjoy cuisine that was artfully crafted to reflect DanganRonpa; excellent food and fantastic presentation!  What more could they possible ask for?

ooc // Well, since I am a finicky pos about my main icon design for this blog, the only starters and drafts I'll be focusing on today are prev3 ( or just Shuunsuke in general ) ones ( since my beloved Kouhe designed me such a nice Shuunsuke icon design ).  If anyone has any suggestions on icon stuff for my main design, please tell me I'm begging you.

In a world where DanganRonpa is a popular reality show where ordinary high school students are transformed into talented students whose sole purpose is to kill each other, society has fallen under the brainwashing powers of hope versus despair.  Shuunsuke Saitou is no exception to this, and is an avid fanboy of the series.  He loves the killing games to the point where his greatest dream is to participate as a Super High School Level Detective.

Shuunsuke attends Spring Field Academy where he is deemed an otaku loner who only obsesses over DanganRonpa.

Personality wise, Shuunsuke is very aloof and distant, giving the cold shoulder to everyone unless the subject of conversation is DanganRonpa ( in which case he then proceeds to butt into the conversation and take over ).  His self-esteem is rather terrible, and he thinks of his own existence as scum because he has no talent and is just ordinary.

His family situation is that he lives with his single mother in an apartment.  His mother is a mystery novelist and his father left her while she was still pregnant with their child.  The only other relative that lives close by is his uncle ( brother to his mother ) who works as a journalist for Tokyo's crime beat.  Uncle does stop by regularly to make sure his sister is taking care of herself during deadline periods.

Aside from being heavily invested in the mysteries of the killing games ( the investigation process, the trials ), Shuunsuke doesn't really display any sort of detective talent.  When watching DanganRonpa, Shuunsuke gets more absorbed by the feelings of hope and despair more often than actually solving the mysteries of the game.  Despite that, the detectives of the shows are his favorite characters, and he dreams of being just like them.
