Snake in the Grass- Chapter 5
Summary: Dominic and his team have found a way to the roof but, before they have a chance to climb up, the enemy agents appear for one last confrontation; who will come out on top?
Notes: Time for the thrilling conclusion- enjoy!
-First Chapter-
It took some time, cautious exploration, and more than a few dead ends, but eventually Dominic and his team found an old hatch to the roof on the fourth floor in one of the maintenance rooms. Unlike the other doors in the building, the maintenance hatch was considerably older and was only fitted with a basic padlock instead of the electronic ones on the ground floor & throughout the building. With one quick shot from the loon’s pistol, the lock fell apart and Adders was able to use his full height to reach the hatch & open it. The ladder inside dropped down instantly and the trio could see traces of sunlight through the cover at the top.
“I’ll go up firsssst and get the top off.” Adders offered before winding himself up the ladder towards the roof.
Dominic and Shoots waited below, keeping an eye out for their enemies. Their task seemed to be going well and, if the loon’s experiences so far today were anything to go by, that meant that something had to come along to ruin it.
Just as the thought crossed the sharp shooter’s mind, the door to the maintenance room suddenly swung open. The feathered pair heard their serpentine companion’s call about the enemies returning and already had their guns drawn. Before they could take the first shot, however, there was a sudden explosion of black powder around the two that partially blinded the gunmen while forcing them into coughing fits.
Staggering back, the loon’s foot made contact with something plastic and he looked down to find an industrial-sized toner cartridge had been left open and tossed into the room. How had he not seen or heard that coming-?
“Get offa me!!” Through the haze of blackness and muted colors, Dominic caught a glimpse of Shoots wrestling with the lizard they’d seen earlier. The reptile was using its extremely long tail to wrap the smaller bird up with surprising strength for something so thin.
Dominic aimed his pistol- the one loaded with standard lead bullets- right at the grass lizard’s head. It was hard to get a clear shot with the way the two were fighting, but he followed their movements closely and was just about to pull the trigger when the lizard’s partner intervened and rushed at him. The wolf grabbed Dominic’s arm, the sleeve of his coat to be more exact, and yanked it at the last second to throw off his aim- causing him to miss his shot.
Too restrained now to help his teammate, Dominic turned his focus to the wolf currently restraining his arm (without touching him, thankfully) and trying to pry his pistol out of his hand. The canine was strong, he’d give him credit for that, but Dominic was no pushover and kept a tight grip on his weapon.
In the midst of their struggle, the gun was turned around until its muzzle pointed straight upwards. Taking the opportunity, Dominic put all of his strength into shoving the pistol beneath the wolf’s snout and pulled the trigger- sending a bullet straight up through his lower jaw.
To his surprise, though, there was no blood. How could there be no blood at all? How could the enemy agent not wince or howl in pain with a hole shot through his mouth? Nothing about this was making any sense.
The wolf used the surprise to finally yank the pistol out of his hand. Instead of turning it on its owner, however, he turned the safety on and dropped it to the ground. With the loon’s hand empty, the larger man used the firm grip he had on the waterfowl’s sleeve to force his hand closer to the wolf’s snout.
Dark fingers flinched away, Dominic’s first thought being that the canine would try to bite him, but that didn’t happen. Instead, he just pressed the loon’s hand against the side of his mouth and……and it felt cool?
The initial shock from both the feeling and the fact that the contact hadn’t set off his usual touch-based aggression wore off and Dominic confirmed that, yes, it felt cool and hard instead of warm and soft. Considering his last partner and boyfriend was also a canine (albeit a different species), he was very familiar with how a dog’s mouth was supposed to feel and it didn’t feel like-
Like metal.
Allowing his fingers to uncurl from their previous tight-fisted state, Dominic let his fingertips touch the cool surface carefully- feeling the smooth planes of hard metal between small ridges and seams. The more he touched, the more the sensation felt so familiar; every subtle ridge, every sharp seam, the way it fit so perfectly into the palm of his hand were all something he seemed to know by heart. He also found that the shape of it didn’t match what he was seeing. It felt more like a beak than a-
The realization struck him like a bolt of lightning.
A beak. A beak made of METAL.
“Steelbeak..?” The name left his mouth in a shocked whisper. The world around Dominic flickered in and out of focus, colors becoming more vivid instead of the dull and desaturated tones he’d attributed to the building’s faulty lighting.
As everything around him settled, the first thing he saw was the face of the emotionless, unknown SHUSH agent morphing into the familiar visage of his boyfriend. Steelbeak had a strained smile on his face, but there was clear relief in his dark gray eyes when they met the loon’s red ones. “Welcome back, Deedee.”
Dominic’s eyes were wide as they darted from his partner, to the rest of the room, to where he’d seen Shoots wrestling with the green lizard earlier but now saw the cardinal in a similar state of shock wrapped in Adders’ coils with the snake’s metal arm wrapped around him in a light headlock, then back to his partner. Then, he saw it- the bullet-sized hole and warped, still hot metal on both halves of his beak. His blood ran cold with the dawning realization that HE did that.
He’d actually SHOT his boyfriend.
“Oh god…” Dominic felt his hands shaking but ignored it in favor of carefully touching the rooster’s face. He didn’t touch his beak, far too worried about causing the other man any more pain than he was probably in already, but he still needed the assurance that he was actually there. “Pauly, I’m..I didn’t mean..I’m-”
“It’s alright, Dom. N-Not your fault.” Steelbeak’s smile didn’t falter, but it was still strained and the wince he gave when he spoke hadn’t gone unnoticed.
He would’ve argued that it didn’t matter- that he was still at fault for pulling the trigger and injuring his partner- but the blade slap of a helicopter’s rotor above them stopped the admission of guilt before it started. Dominic looked at the maintenance hatch and realized that he could now see the light of day coming down unfiltered. The cover at the top must have been removed.
A burning, fierce fury bubbled within the loon’s chest and he ran for the ladder. The guilt he felt over hurting his partner had been eclipsed by the need to make someone pay for the physical & mental anguish every one of them had endured that day. “He’s NOT getting away with this!!” Dominic climbed up the rungs fast enough that the frame rattled.
When he reached the top, he spotted a dark helicopter with SHUSH’s logo printed on the side in gray (leave it to Hooter and Gryzlikoff to pick the blandest color pallet). The side of it was open and, instead of a traditional rope ladder, a cable with a trail of metal platforms cut & tilted to form a spiral path up towards the helicopter’s opening was dangling down towards the roof. Near the top of the cable was a large black snake in its version of a suit- the one who’d manipulated Dominic & Shoots, the loon’s mind knew instantly- winding himself up the metal spiral to get into the copter.
Once he had his feet firmly planted on the flat rooftop, Dominic drew his remaining pistol and followed the shadowy serpent’s movements. It was a tricky shot with the intense downfall from the helicopter’s blades and swaying motion of the cable, but he was a very good shot. After only a second, Dominic pulled the trigger and managed to nail the snake right in the chest twice just as he was about to enter the cabin.
His pistol was still loaded with the ice rounds, so the hit wouldn’t have been fatal to anyone who was warm blooded. To a cold blooded serpent, however, the rapidly spreading ice would be a death sentence if it weren’t treated right away. That fact coupled with the shout of pure agony when the manipulative snake nearly fell off of the cable brought the loon some satisfaction. The small moment of victory was tainted by other SHUSH agents reaching out of the open cabin to save their coworker from falling to his death. Working together, they managed to pull the quickly freezing snake into the helicopter before it flew away.
Dominic took a few more shots at the retreating chopper (just because he technically couldn’t bring down a nearly military-grade vehicle with a handgun didn’t mean he wasn’t angry enough to at least try), but ultimately had to stew in his own anger and frustration once it faded into the horizon. If he’d known that the ice he shot at the shadowy serpent’s chest had completely ruined a harddrive full of classified FOWL documents and data, making the enemy agent’s mission a complete failure, then Dominic would have felt some vindication; as it stood, however, he had no way to know that and was left with nothing but anger and the clawing guilt working its way back into his mind now that he had nothing to take his frustrations out on.
With nothing left for him to do on the roof, the loon climbed back down into the maintenance room to join the rest of his team. He found his partner waiting for him at the base of the ladder. One look at the darker fowl’s face told him all he needed to know and he had the decency not to ask unnecessary questions that would irritate him further. “We’ll get ‘em next time, Dom.”
“Yeah..” Those words were little comfort now that he was face to face with the taller man and had to look at the hole shot straight through his beak- the hole that he’d shot through it. “Pauly, I-”
“Don’t.” Steelbeak interrupted him, though he kept his voice calm. “It wasn’t your fault, ya didn’t know.” The chief officer’s words still did little to comfort his partner. He seemed to read the loon’s mood so, instead, he turned his focus on the other pair in the room. “Ya good over there, stretch?”
Dominic saw his former teammates in the corner. Adders tried to smile at them while (ironically, given he was the more injured one) comforting his partner- the cardinal clinging to him and sobbing apologies again & again. “I’m okay, nothing broken.” He patted Shoots’ back with his damaged mechanical arm, looking at the burnt and broken metal with a slight frown. “Well…exccccept thesssse. Guessss I’ll have to tossss them..”
Shoots lifted his head from the snake’s red shirt and rubbed his sleeve across his eyes before looking at the reptile. “Bro, what’re we gonna do? You already went through all your replacements for the year- the guys up top won’t give you any more ‘til January.”
“I wouldn’t sweat it too much.” The chief officer waved off their concerns. “I know a gu-” Steelbeak cut himself off, apparently looking for the right words before continuing. “I know a person that can get us patched up. Nothin’ on the books, no one gets in trouble, no harm no foul. I’ll give hi- them a call an’ see if we can book a flight tomorrow.” He looked at his partner. “Oh, an’ Dee?”
Dominic met his boyfriend’s gaze hesitantly. “Yes?”
The corner of the metal-mouthed fowl’s beak lifted in a small smile. “Looks like we’re gettin’ takeout tonight.”
The comment actually got a surprised laugh out of the loon and he returned the look with a small smile of his own. “I guess we are.” Dominic still felt a heavy weight in his chest whenever his eyes lingered too long on the taller man’s injured beak, but his partner seemed intent on keeping things positive so he’d try to do the same.
Things would be okay now, he told himself. They would be okay.
End Notes: Well, this was a fun gift to write and it feels good to push myself like this again. Happy belated birthday again, @eleanorose123 ! ^.^

Snake in the Grass- Chapter 4
Summary: Steelbeak, separated from his partner, tries to find a way to reunite with Domino and get the mission back on track, but running into a certain serpent derails his plans completely.
Notes: Time for Steelbeak's perspective on what's been going on. Prepare for some pain >xD
-First Chapter-
~Twenty Minutes Earlier~
Steelbeak kept his revolver drawn while navigating the halls as silently as possible. Knowing his partner was safe on the other side of the building and had backup put him somewhat at ease, but he hadn’t forgotten that he was now the one on his own with an elusive enemy sneaking about. While he kept an ear out and eyes peeled for any signs of movement, the eerie silence of the building made him feel tense.
Everything about this mission had him on edge. He couldn’t quite place it, but something was setting off that feeling in his gut that told him something bad was coming. The chief officer had made it as far as he had in life by listening to his gut and following his instincts, so he saw no reason to stop now.
That feeling only got worse when his partner called him on his communicator. “Steelbeak? Come in, Steelbeak.”
After taking a quick look around to make sure the coast was clear, Steelbeak stopped and leaned his back against a nearby wall (best to be careful and not leave his back open to sneak attacks) then answered. “Steelbeak here. How’s it lookin’ on your end, stripes?”
Despite hearing the loon clearly, he seemed to have trouble doing the same. “Steelbeak? Hello? What’s wrong with this thing?”
“Might be a ssssignal jammer.” A voice with a slight hiss to it- the snake guy, Steelbeak assumed- was audible in the background. “Ourssss haven’t been working either.”
“Damn it..” Domino cursed under his breath before speaking to his partner again. “Steelbeak, if you can hear me, the doorway over here is blocked off, too. We’ll try to meet you on the next floor up. Domino out.”
The communicator cut off and Steelbeak was left confused and more than a little anxious. If there was a signal jammer somewhere in the building, then how could he hear his partner so clearly? He’d dealt with those things before and usually there’d be some sort of choppiness or static interference- if the calls even got through at all to begin with. That feeling in his gut was telling him that things weren’t adding up and he agreed with it.
As he searched for the nearest staircase, Steelbeak’s guard was up and his senses were hyper aware of even the tiniest sounds around him. By the time he found an unlocked stairwell, he was more than a little tense and ready to shoot something.
Luckily, fate finally seemed to be on the chief officer’s side for once when he reached the next floor- he could hear muttered curses coming from a room that's door had been left slightly ajar. The voice definitely wasn’t his boyfriend’s and didn’t sound like the guy he’d heard behind the door or the one who’d been in the background of the call earlier, so that left only one option. A voice in the back of his head told him to wait for his partner and the others to show up like they’d agreed, but another- one that came from years of solo missions and survival experience- told him he might not get another chance to pin down the elusive enemy. He HAD to take the opportunity before it slipped away.
Steelbeak approached the room as quickly & quietly as possible, noting briefly that it was a first aid station, and peeked in through the gap in the door. There wasn’t much he could make out through the tiny opening, but he could at least see a long shadow moving along the wall. Using the angle and direction of the shadow’s movement, the metal-mouthed fowl got a good estimate of where its owner was and, with his trigger-finger ready to fire at a moment’s notice, he opened the door and stormed in.
“Alright, ya slippery li’l-!” The threats, insults, and declarations that the life of the room’s inhabitant was officially over died before they even left Steelbeak’s mouth. Huddled in the far corner of the room was a green snake wearing a red shirt- one that looked exactly like the profile picture he’d been shown during his earlier impromptu mission debriefing. “Wait…you’re agent Adders, right?”
The shivering serpent looked more than a little worse for wear, covered in bruises and burns with his damaged but still attached mechanical arm frozen in its attempt at wrapping a bandage around what looked like a scorch mark on his lower body, but he was most definitely the same snake from the picture. “Uhhhh yeeeeah..? Who’re you??”
Okay, that definitely didn’t sound like the voice Steelbeak heard when Domino called him earlier. “Chief officer Steelbeak- Domino’s partner.”
Adders perked up considerably, his head craning in an attempt to peek out of the now open door. “Wait- the bossss’ss here?”
After glancing out to make sure no one else was in the hall, Steelbeak closed the door and moved closer to the serpent. “Yeah, an’ accordin’ t’ him, he’s with you an’ your partner right now, but I don’t see or hear either of ‘em.”
Whatever relief the snake felt knowing his team’s former leader was in the building turned into pure terror in an instant- the emotions easily readable on his overly expressive face. “Oh crud, he got the bossss too?!”
Dark gray eyes instantly narrowed, not liking the sound of that one bit. “Who’s got him? I need some answers, stretch. NOW.” Steelbeak’s voice held no traces of his usual snark or cocky confidence, it was all cold-hard seriousness and unspoken promises of violence.
Adders flinched slightly, but the fact that he wasn’t the target of the chief officer’s anger helped him swallow his fears and answer as expected. “I-I don’t know who he issss. Ssssome other ssssnake. He got Shootssss alone and did ssssome weird thing with hissss eyessss- they were changing colorssss and sssspinning really fast. Nexxxxt thing I know, he’ssss shooting at me and calling that creep my name!” Looking down at the burn marks- laser blaster shots, Steelbeak assumed now that he had the full story- the serpent frowned slightly and went back to wrapping the bandage around his body. “I keep trying to talk to him, but it’ssss like he can’t hear or ssssee me- he jusssst keepssss attacking. I’ve barely been able to sssstay alive...”
Steelbeak’s scowl deepened and, ever the paragon of anger management, he slammed his fist into the nearest wall. The dent and chipped paint did little to help his temper, so his next attempt was to take a breath- that only helped marginally, but it was better than nothing. “Alright. Let’s go get our partners back and take care of this creep.”
After receiving a nod from Adders- and after the other man was finished patching his wounds (as best as he could, anyway)- the two agents snuck through the halls as quietly as possible. According to Domino’s call, the three of them should be looking for him somewhere on the same floor. With any luck, they could get the loon alone and find a way to undo whatever was done to him & Shoots. If they weren’t lucky…well, thankfully both of them were good at running (slithering, in Adders’ case) away when the situation called for it.
They searched for a while before, in the distance down the small hallway the two were currently in, they heard footsteps and slithering. Steelbeak pressed himself against the wall and inched as close to the corner as he could, Adders following suit. Once they were close enough, the metal-mouthed fowl pulled a small compact out of his pocket (no one would be surprised that he was vain enough to carry a mirror with him- had to make sure he always looked good, after all) and used the mirror to see around the corner.
In the reflection, he could see his partner leading the group with the cardinal from the pictures he’d seen earlier trailing behind him. Both birds had a weird look in their eyes that reminded Steelbeak of the few times he’d been around people who’d made the dumb decision to eat the wrong mushrooms while lost in the woods then started screaming about things that weren’t there less than an hour later. Then, bringing up the rear, he saw another snake- a black one bigger than Adders who was dressed in a modified SHUSH suit (there were no arms on it and it was closer to a dress since there was a hole at the bottom instead of pants).
Seeing the shadowy serpent and the state his boyfriend was in made Steelbeak’s blood boil. The fact that he didn’t immediately go in guns blazing and shoot the manipulative snake right in the face was nothing short of a miracle, but the rational part of his mind won out (a rare occurrence when he was that angry) and convinced him that getting his partner away from the immediate threat was more important. He tried everything he could think of to get the loon’s attention without being noticed by the others- calling him on his communicator, quietly calling out to him, and even using his mirror to reflect some light in a subtle signal- but he didn’t react to any of it.
In a last ditch effort, Steelbeak searched his pockets for something he could throw to his partner. He didn’t have much that would be significant and recognizable without being noticeable right away to the intruder, so he settled for a spare bullet from his ammo stash; to make it even more distinct, the metal-mouthed fowl even used his prosthesis to bite into the bullet ever so slightly. It wasn’t as good as a paper plane with a message written on the wings, but since he wasn’t artistic or coordinated enough to pull something like that off without missing by a mile, it would have to do.
Taking aim as best he could without revealing himself, Steelbeak took his metaphorical shot and tossed the bullet at his boyfriend before ducking back behind the corner. To his relieved surprise, Domino did in fact react when the bullet bounced off of his chest before dropping down onto his leg and foot. The loon seemed confused at first, like he wasn’t sure what hit him, then looked down and noticed the bullet. It was working! Now he just needed to-
“Enemiessss!” The darker snake suddenly hissed out, rising up into a defensive stance.
“!!” Both birds followed the shady serpent’s line of sight and stared right at Steelbeak & Adders, much to the pair's shock and horror. Apparently, in their excitement to see their plan finally working, they didn’t notice they were now slightly visible around the corner of the hall.
Domino had his gun drawn, but didn’t fire right away- looking confused by the sight of his partner and former teammate (or whatever he saw them as). “How..?”
“Get ‘em!!” Shoots, however, didn’t hesitate and immediately opened fire on his allies while charging straight at them.
“Crud!” Steelbeak bolted down the hallway, Adders close behind him.
The two of them dodged as best they could in the narrow hallway, now having to avoid shots from the cardinal’s blaster as well as Domino’s own gun. Along the way, Steelbeak knocked over filing cabinets & whatever other office furniture he came across once they left the hall and entered a room full of desks and chairs in an attempt to slow their pursuers down. It became clear pretty quickly, however, that the shorter two birds were faster than the rooster & adder snake and they were gaining on them quickly.
Recognizing where they were, the chief officer got an idea. “Head for the stairs!” Steelbeak grabbed a steel chair he spotted by a desk and the two men ran for the stairwell. He reached it first and managed to get it open, but noticed something that was definitely not a bullet hitting the area around the door. By the time he saw the frost spreading around the door and his brain put two and two together, it was too late for the information to do him any good. One shot hit him in the arm and a pained shout tore itself from his beak as he felt the bone chilling sting of the freezing compound spread across his arm. “AAAAAAAH!” Fighting through the pain, he managed to get the door open. “Go!”
Adders rushed in ahead of him and, the instant his long body was clear of the door, Steelbeak hurried in after him and slammed the door shut- bracing the chair he’d grabbed against the handle and door jamb the instant it was closed. “That wassss too closssse..”
The chief officer grunted a reply, too busy pulling off his suit coat with his still-warm arm. He managed to get the fabric off, breaking the ice that had formed on his coat along the way, and was relieved both from the change in temperature as well as the fact that his shirt had far less ice on it. Steelbeak spent some time rubbing his arm, chasing away the sting of pins and needles that had settled into his muscles and wincing at the frostbite-induced bruises he could already feel forming under his feathers.
While both agents caught their breath and treated their wounds, they caught bits and pieces of their partners’ conversation through the heavy metal door. They couldn’t hear much, but Steelbeak caught the word “roof” from the SHUSH agent and what sounded like Domino agreeing to it before all three men left.
“Damn it..” Steelbeak didn’t know what exactly that sneaky snake wanted with his partner and Shoots on the roof, but he knew instantly that it couldn’t be good. Best case scenario, he’d escape; worst case, he’d push them over the edge when they weren’t paying attention. “We gotta get ‘em away from that bastard before they get up there.”
“How?” Adders frowned. “If we get too closssse, they’ll attack ussss again! They can’t ssssee or hear ussss assss long assss that guy’ssss around, and he won’t let ussss get closssse enough to try anything elsssse.”
He knew the other man was right- it wouldn’t be easy getting through to their partners as long as that SHUSH snake was near them. From what Steelbeak had witnessed, his boyfriend definitely didn’t recognize him or react to his voice whatsoever, so trying to reason with him was out of the question. The only thing he seemed to react to was-
Steelbeak was struck by an idea, feeling like a lightbulb just lit up over his head. “That’s it!” A grin spread across the metal-mouthed fowl’s beak. “Listen up, stretch, I’ve got a plan. It’s gonna be dangerous, but it’s somethin’ only guys like you an’ me can pull off.”
They’d only have one shot, so they’d have to get it right or go down fighting.
End Notes: For anyone who's not a long-time follower of my DWD work and OC's, the culprit behind everything is the sneaky SHUSH snake, Agent Kadin S.- AKA, "the Serpent's Shadow".

🎁 with Kadin? - Pixel Anon
“🎁 - What kind of gift-giver are they? Do they give thoughtful gifts? Expensive gifts? Practical gifts?”
Kadin doesn’t really have a lot of people he gives gifts to since he only has a couple of work friends and no contact with his family anymore. The few people he does give gifts to are usually small things that he knows they’ll like without being too extravagant- gift cards to stores/restaurants they frequent, figurines from a show they’ve said they enjoyed, some make-up he’s seen them use before, etc.
If he ever gets closer to someone, either romantically or just as a good friend, he’d likely look into more thoughtful and personalized gifts than just the small but thoughtful tokens that everyone else gets from him.

Darkwing Duck OC- SHUSH Agent Kadin S.
Art by @thefriendlyfour , full bio under the cut.
Physical Description: A black egyptian cobra with a body that even other snakes would consider exceptionally long/tall. Eyes are normally black as well but have the odd ability to change color at will.
Outfit: As with most snakes, wearing regular clothes can be a bit of a challenge due to the lack of arms, but being part of SHUSH means he has to adhere to their dress code in some form. The compromise between himself and SHUSH ended up being a specially tailored outfit that’s essentially a long black vest (he gets teased occasionally about it looking like a dress) with a few magnetic buttons for easy dressing and removal with no hands. The white collar, sewn-in belt, and short flaps of fabric around the shoulders to imitate sleeves are all designed to give it the appearance of a suit without encumbering him in any way.
Gender: Was afab, but is now post-op transgender male.
Part of his reason for joining SHUSH was the promised access to good surgeons and guaranteed treatment for anything that would be considered a physical or psychological risk to an agent’s well-being (he made a very compelling argument as to why transgender individuals and certain nonbinary individuals fell under the latter category and now it’s been officially added to SHUSH’s list).
Sexual Orientation: Hasn’t really dated or been interested in anyone enough to have a preference yet, so he just considers himself queer for the time being.
Age: 26
Nicknames: K or Kad. Official field name is “Serpent’s Shadow” or just “Shadow”.
Real Name: Kadin (prefers not to give out last name)
Background:
Although people would assume from his species’ name that he’d be from Egypt, Kadin is originally from Morocco.
He grew up with his family in Morocco, but was kicked out by his parents when he came out to them about his gender at age 17.
Survived on his own for a while thanks to the discovery that he could change the color of his eyes at will and, that if it was changed rapidly enough, he could put other people in a mild trance. Instead of using this ability to steal from people or make himself rich, however, Kadin just used it to make people think he was a long-time friend visiting for a few days to get a free room and some food.
Was eventually discovered and picked up by SHUSH for his exceptional abilities and trained as a field agent by the time he was 21.
Current Position: Works as a special agent for SHUSH as one of their best infiltration specialists with a nearly flawless record of infiltrating FOWL bases, stealing information, and slipping out without ever being captured.
His success is both because of his hypnotic ability and because of his natural biology- his scales make it hard to see him in the dark and his lack of limbs makes it easy to slip through large vents or waterways.
Personality:
Generally very easy-going and laid-back but will still follow whatever orders his superiors give him seriously (though he’ll still worm his way out of the paperwork whenever possible- it’s hard to write with just a tail, darn it!)
While he’s normally very conscious and considerate about using his powers on civilians due to his own moral compass, that same consideration does NOT apply to enemies- particularly criminals and members of FOWL. He will gladly use his powers to mess with them as much as possible: Leading them into traps, making them attack their allies, or even accompanying him back to a SHUSH facility to be interrogated and/or arrested- nothing’s off limits when it comes to the bad guys.
Off the clock, he likes being involved in his community in subtle ways like cleaning up warm places such as the park or beach. Part of this is because he just loves being outdoors when the weather’s nice and warm and enjoys making it enjoyable for himself and others.
Interesting Bonus Facts:
Has gotten very adept over the years at using his long tail for a number of everyday tasks like grabbing things, cooking, swimming, and even climbing. The only thing that he generally has trouble with are things that require higher levels of dexterity like writing with a regular sized pen/pencil.
Aside from his hypnotic ability, Kadin also has the lethal venom typical for his species. Unlike his hypnosis, though, he tries to use his venom as sparingly as possible since it’s a very unpleasant way to go and he’s not fond of the idea of murdering someone, even if they are the bad guys.
To make sure he doesn’t accidentally kill someone, he carries pre-loaded shots of anti-venom in the large pockets of his outfit to leave with anyone he accidentally or is forced to bite.
There are rumors that he’s used his hypnosis on Gryzlikoff before to avoid being yelled at, but no one will confirm or deny these rumors.
Speaks a wide range of languages including English, Arabic (multiple dialects), French, Spanish, and, though he doesn’t really use it that often since he left his home-country, Berber (also multiple dialects).

“📎 - How organised is your OC? Do they keep on top of responsibilities, or leave things to the last minute?”
While Kadin does what he can to keep his desk and work area organized, he’s not as rigid and militaristic about it as Gryzlikoff or some of his other superiors would prefer. He gets away with it because he can still find what he needs with ease and gets his reports in (mostly) on time, though he gets frustrated looks from his superiors constantly. As for his timing with turning things in and getting things done, his superiors would say it often feels like he waits until the last minute- in reality, however, he just has a hard time manually filling out forms and it takes him longer than other agents to get everything to their very strict standards.
At home, he’s a lot less organized. He doesn’t live as a slob, mind you- he cleans and keeps things within a reasonable amount of clutter, but he’s definitely not a neat-freak by any means.

Meant to reblog this the other day, but was a bit tired ^^”
I love Cyrus, he’s a fun character…even if Kadin causes trouble for him xD
Darkwing Duck Original Character Month
Day 11: Your DWD OC's least favorite person
While it would be easy to assume that Steelbeak would be Cyrus' least favorite person, that's not actually the case. For how much the F.O.W.L. agent grates on Cyrus' nerves, he can tolerate the cocky rooster in certain occasions and the two of them can get along quite well under the right circumstances.
The dubious honor of being Public Enemy #1 in Cyrus' little black book of hate goes to one Kadin S. ( @psychosistr OC). I mentioned in a previous entry how Cyrus was not happy to find out that S.H.U.S.H. had sent one of their agents to snoop around the Goodfella's in response to the increase of F.O.W.L. agents in his bar: Agent Kadin, a.k.a. The Serpent's Shadow, happens to be said agent.
Cyrus doesn't know his name, only that he's a S.H.U.S.H. agent and a sneaky snake that has no business slithering around his bar. The only reason Cyrus even remembers him is because he was wearing tinted glasses (to help with a bout of visual sensitivity), thus preventing Kadin from hypnotizing him, forcing the spy to a swift retreat.
Needless to say, having S.H.U.S.H. snoop around the bar would be very bad for business, and Cyrus has little tolerance for anything remotely threatening the Goodfella's.

☕ Kadin - Pixel Anon
“Give us one (or more if you feel like it) of your OCs deep dark secrets! Why do they keep it hidden? Spill the tea!”
While Kadin is a very proud and righteous person, often saying that his hypnotic powers are not a toy or tool for making anyone’s life easier..........he maaaaayyy use his powers every ONCE IN A WHILE to get out of doing the more tedious parts of his job (like the dreaded paper work). He’s not necessarily lazy, he just hates being forced to do things that are tedious and difficult with his physical limitations. Writing reports is already difficult without any hands to properly hold a pen or use a keyboard, but his bosses expect them to be done in a very prompt manner that is honestly unrealistic for him.
Of course, with his ability it’s VERY easy to cover his tracks, so good luck proving that he didn’t write his reports on time >;)

#26 for all of them. - Pixel Anon
“Have they ever been in a physical fight before? If so, with who? Who won?”
Considering they’re all heroes and villains in an action-based series, the answer to that is a definite YES and with far too many people to list.
The two with the lowest number of fights under their metaphorical belts would be Kadin S. and Dr. Rose Gold. Kadin usually avoids fighting himself, often trying to avoid conflict altogether by hiding in the shadows, hypnotizing his enemies into thinking he’s an ally, and letting those he has hypnotized fight for him if necessary; his body is very strong and he CAN fight if it comes down to it, but he tries to avoid letting the situation get to that point because he’s not a fan of violence. As for Rose, they got into their share of fights back when they were partnered with Steelbeak and can hold their own surprisingly well for someone of their physique, but it’s been a long time since they’ve had to fight anyone due to their relocation to the lab.

🌻 for secret agent snake lol
“What advice would your OC give to their younger self? What advice does your OC need now?“
If Kadin could tell his younger self one thing, it would be that there’s nothing wrong with him and not to let his family’s old-fashioned views make him think any differently. When he came out to his family about being trans, they responded in the worst possible ways and kicked him out of their home and their family until he “stopped thinking such foolish thoughts”. Life was rough for him for a while after that and there were times where he wondered if maybe he really was the one in the wrong. If he could ever give his younger self any advice, it would be that he wasn’t wrong for wanting to live life the way he felt was right and to never give up his hope because life would get better eventually.
As for what advice he needs now, it would probably be that he doesn’t always need to prove himself- Kadin has a bad habit of constantly trying to prove his worth, likely because of what happened with his family. He needs to be encouraged that it’s okay to take a break now and then and that no one will think less of him for it.

“What is something true about your OC that they refuse to admit about themselves? Is there any reason to this besides embarassment?“
One thing that Kadin doesn’t like acknowledging about himself would probably be the general assumption people have about his species- that he was made to be a killer. It’s a stereotype that he hates about cobras because he knows that, sadly, it’s true: He and his family were practically bred to be efficient killing machines. They’re strong, have natural camouflage, and venom that can kill someone quickly and painfully. It really wasn’t unheard of for some of them to still seek jobs as assassins today.
Even if it’s true biologically, though, Kadin works hard every day to prove otherwise because he believes that if other animals can be seen for more than what their ancestors were bred for (lots of predatory animals these days are pretty harmless and lots of prey animals are very strong and capable), then so can cobras.

No. 21 for Kadin S.?
“Do they have a familiar?”
Kadin’s not really into magic, so he doesn’t have a familiar. He’s had a few run-in’s with magical beings over the years, certainly (usually because they find his powers fascinating), but he’s never really formed a bond with a magical being to make it a familiar. Still, he would find them very interesting and wouldn’t be opposed to maybe having one as a pet someday x3

19 for everyone? - Pixel Anon
“What does their relationship with their family look like? Are they close? Distant? Ect.”
Everyone, huh? Alright, this is gonna be a long one, so get comfy:
Steelbeak: As far as he knows, he doesn’t have any family. His dad died when he was little, his ma disappeared a little while before that, and he never knew anyone else besides them.
Nega-Steelbeak: Same situation as regular Steelbeak when it comes to blood-relatives, but he does have his own family in the form of his adopted son Sid and his close friend/roommate/unofficially-indoctrinated-family-member Andy (both of which are OC’s belonging to @eclipsewarrior101 ). He loves both of them dearly and they’re all very close.
Friendly Four: Hate to pull this, but I’m keeping theirs vague for future spoiler reasons. The most I’ll say is Megavolt hasn’t seen his parents since his first fight with Negaduck back in high school, Bushroot’s not fond of his parents but there IS someone in his family he used to keep in contact with before the mutation, Liquidator’s from a VERY big family, and Quackerjack...well...he doesn’t really like talking about his life before he opened up his toy company...
Kadin S.: Kadin was always very withdrawn from his family, so being disowned by them when he came out as trans hurt, but it was a bridge he was able to burn fairly easily. He hasn’t seen them since he was kicked out of the house as a teen.
Bokor Baron: Henri was always different from his family, but he was still very close to them growing up. He loved his five older siblings and grandmother a lot, but he always felt different from them due to his lust for power and his proclivity for communing with much darker, more violent spirits then the rest of the family. They tried to guide him back towards the light, but it became increasingly clear as he got older that he had no desire to be saved from the path he’d chosen. His family at least cared about him enough to wait until he was in his twenties and able to take care of himself properly before asking him to leave, but it still stung when Henri left his family and turned to a life of crime. Henri, now going by Bokor Baron, hasn’t had any contact with them since he left.
Dr.Rose Gold: The final character on this list is one of my only OC’s with a happy, healthy relationship with their family x’D Rose is from a large family of FOWL scientists consisting of both of their parents, two uncles, three aunts, and a couple auncles as well as a slew of cousins. Though their work keeps them, and the rest of their family, too busy for in-person visits, Rose gets regular video calls from their parents, phone calls and chat-messages from the rest of their family, and they always receive plenty of presents around their birthday and other holidays. So, even though they don’t see them in person that often, Rose has a very close and happy relationship with their family.
