Aside from Shugo Chara, Spy x Family is also a good alternative for people who got burned out from Miraculous. It's not magical girl genre, but it has a secret identity and reversing gender role theme and Spy x Family do the later 1000000 times better than miraculous ever be.

Spy x Family has the perfect justification for its secret identity hijinks. Both our adult leads are operatives used to working alone and think they've married a normal person for the sake of convenience. Like, of course a master spy and an assassin aren't going to be telling their cute, normal spouse about their dangerous night jobs when their lives rely on secrecy. In fact, the fact that these two are adults even justifies the whole “one man/woman mission” thing. They don't need supervision.

Also, like, the relationships in this show are so wholesome despite the dark setup. I mean, Anya is an escaped child experiment who has understandable baggage from that, but she still manages to find joy in life. Like, in general, you can see the entire main cast is better off playing family than they were before despite all the secrets they're keeping from each other for actually valid reasons. Or maybe those valid reasons are why it's working out, since it only takes life or death stakes for them to lie, instead of them going: “Well, this topic makes me uncomfy so I’ll just lie my ass off”.

The irony that this show takes place in a fictionalized version of the Cold War period and yet manages to be more progressive with its gender commentary than a cartoon set in the present day trying to be subversive. A recent thought I had concerning this is that a lot if Astruc’s ideas are outdated and surface deep. He thinks having an idea is good enough and never really commits to anything and his tendency to not rewrite scripts seems to lead to a lot of his ideas being recycled from the concept era ten years ago. But, like, a lot of his subversions wouldn't have been subversive even ten years ago. Plagiarism Man should have plagiarized more stuff instead of just Shugo Chara and Dork Diaries. When you combine ideas from multiple sources instead of trying to blatantly copy one or two popular works, your work actually ends up coming out more unique and original.

Anyway, Spy x Family gets a recommendation from me, too.

I’m rereading Shugo Chara (it’s been years and the nostalgia I feel is immense) and I’ve got to be honest…

I think Amu and Ikuto is the funniest ship in the whole world.

Like, they just like each other. They like spending time with each other. Amu is genuinely comfortable around him until he starts flirting, then she’s mostly just kind of exasperated. All of Ikuto’s interactions with her are based on cats. He brings her food (human can not hunt for themself) and he lays on her (human is the most comfortable pillow) and he teases her (human must be kept on their toes). Like, he’s just a big ol’ cat and I love it.

But also, the manga is fucking hilarious.

When Kukai is graduating and everyone’s saying goodbye and Tadase asks “When I’m in trouble, can I talk to this picture I have of you?” When they’re all talking about what happens around springtime and Ikuto casually says “Being in heat. Because we’re cats.” and Amu’s respons is “Can he say that in this manga?” And Sensei… “Why are you still teaching here?” “I do have credentials.”

Ikuto is the funniest character. He brings cookies because he broke Amu’s tart. He brings ice cream because Utau dropped Kukai’s ice cream (and maybe Amu’s? I’m unclear) ((how did he even know that that happened? Does he have a sixth sense, “Someone just ruined my human’s meal. I have to fix this immediately.”)) He always shows up with a bag of food and just drops it on Amu, then leaves. He came here for one reason and one reason only, and it was to drop off food, bye.

My favourite part of the manga is Nadeshiko/Nagihiko. I love Amu’s comment early on “Nadeshiko changes so fast!” I love Temari, who just repeats “my kimono will get dirty.” And when they’re crawling through the vent or whatever, and Temari is crawling while still covering her face with her sleeve and says “my kimono is getting dirty.” Hilarious. I love Temari so much.

I love that Nadeshiko is Amu’s best friend. They are besties. The extra where Nagihiko breaks out of his house to spend time with Amu? Perfection. Nagihiko holding Amu’s hand, and when she points it out to him, he just goes “Oh yeah. I forgot I’m different today.” I love Nagihiko, he’s the best. The whole explanation is totally wild and honestly baffling, but I love Nagihiko and his weird ass family all the same.

I liked the show a lot as a kid, and I liked the manga even more. I think Amu and Ikuto are adorable. I think it’s funny that the characters don’t act like any elementary school students I’ve ever met (including the ones who were in elementary school with me). I like that Kukai is everyone’s favourite, and he’s just so chipper. I like Tadase’s wish being to conquer the world, and everyone agreeing to help him with it because “It’s fun :)” I especially like that Amu is consistently and constantly judging the capes.

Maybe it’s nostalgia colouring my view. Maybe I’m biased because it made me laugh a couple times. Maybe I just like Ikuto and Amu being comedic foils to each other. Whatever it may be, I really enjoy the manga. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I recommend it if you’re going to be pissed by the age gap? No.

Go ! Princess Precure - this one kinda reminded me of pitchi pitchi mermaid melody for some reason.....probably because theirs a mermaid cure but ANYWAYS it's about a girl who goes to an elite school and it's so awesome, especially with the princess theme

Kira Kira al a mode - this one is about food.....which is so awesome it's about how food provides happiness and if you don't put love into the food you make then the world becomes sad....( they also run a cafe similar to Tokyo mew mew ) they are also based on animals :3

Heart catch - that one is always everyone's favorite, and I swear anyone who has watched precure has recommended this one first. It's honestly just peak

10-) Gaara from Naruto

Reason: He's the first antagonist i've ever rooted for, not for his plans but for his mental health. When i first saw his backstory i just wanted to riot bc damn, people really treated this boy like a monster since day one and then got surprised when he started acting like it, i just wanted him happy and at the least i got that at the end of the anime (No, i refuse to watch Boruto on principle)

9-) Tsukiyomi Ikuto from Shugo Chara

Reason: We all have our problematic shoujo male leads that we love. In my defense i watched Shugo Chara when i was 12 years old and it wasn't until later when i realized the age difference but even then i still have a soft spot for him in my heart. He and his sister suffered so much and i just want them happy, healthy and taken care of (he's also the reason why i'm into catboys now that i think abt it)

8-)Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto

Reason: He's my baby boy (not in a carnal way), i watched this boy grow up rooting for him to achieve his dreams, he's the first male protagonist i was emotionally invested in and ngl to this day i still read fix-it fics for his childhood because in my heart of hearts he deserves it (Still refusing to watch Boruto tho)

7-) Haruka Nanase from free! Iwatobi swim club

Reason: The reason is not as deep as the others i'm afraid, i genuinely loved Free! When it first came out, i was obsessed with Haru's character and the way he was as a person, he's extremely attractive and i want to crack him open like an egg and study his insides (he's also very shipable and i like that in a fictional man)

6-) Kageyama Tobio from Haikyuu

Reason: He's my awkward lil guy. I loved the way he developed as a character, from a temperamental, lonely volleyball genius to the type of guy that still uses the signature his upperclassman came up for him in high school as a pro player. I also really liked how we only got the reason why he was acting like he did in middle school only at the end of the end of the manga and how it made everything make sense in retrospect

5-) Hinamori Amu from Shugo Chara

Reason: Shugo Chara was my first magical girls anime and i still have a really soft spot for Amu in my heart. I know she's not the most well written deep characters around but i really like how she was an escape for me when i was younger. She was a pretty, popular, preteen girl who was an awkward mess and while i could only relate to the awkward mess, the fact that she got publicaly rejected by her crush and her taste in fashion i still watched her go because it felt good to see her do so

4-) Jason Todd from the Batman franchise

Reason: He's my babygirl (not always in a carnal way), this boy suffered so much in life, was happy for a few years, got brutally murdered, then brought back to suffer more. He's one of Dc's favorite punching bags and my dream is to see him happy, healthy and in therapy. Really hate how his own father won't avenge his death or let him do it himself, just fuck that clown already since you like him so much

3-) Wei Wuxian from Mdzs

Reason: I really do have a thing for red wearing, died but got better, on his second life but sluttier than ever characters. This boy deserves the world, he did do many morally reprehensible things in his time but it's all justified because i said so, he deserved his happy ending and my only complaint is that it didn't come sooner

2-) Shen Qingqiu from Scum Villain's self-saving system

Reason: This man is a whole ass clown, a walking contradiction, he's the reason why some people describe Scum Villain as a greek tragedy with clown music playing in the background. I've never seen someone so in-tune but detached from reality, bro doesn't even know his own emotions, on the inside he's a chronically online millenial on the outside he's the milfiest shizun in the Cang Qiong mountain sect and everyone knows it

Reason: This is my girl and i'll not take any criticism for it. She's a 15 years old middle schooler having to go back in time to fix a magical jewel to save japan and she's being so brave about it. She's an extremely kind person, does her best to see the good in everyone, even in people that attempted om her life before, she's a bit immature at times and has a temper but again, she's 15. She deserved better in general and because of that, and many more other reasons, that i fucking refuse to ever watch Yashahime, i just think it sucks she didn't even get to raise her daughter

Favorite Color(s): I personally love the color black, always have since I was a child. I just find it very... I dunno how to explain it exactly? It's just mesmerizing to me.

Favorite Flavor(s): I love sweet flavors, but my all time favorite flavors are anything that's sour and I mean SOUR. That extremely sour candy? My favorite. I have eaten so many sour things that I have grown immune to most sour candies. I don't pucker my lips, my eyes don't do the squinty thing, nor do they water. This is probably bad since too much sour stuff destroys your mouth, but I have a bad habit of eating sour stuff to the point the roof of my mouth and tongue are all torn up.

I was wondering when I was gonna get asked this question someday!! Even though I would never have a direct answer for it at the start. ^^; In my opinion, I want to suggest a series that doesn't have so many episodes as it may be a little overwhelming or intimidating to the potential viewer (i.e. Naruto, One Piece, Sailor Moon, DBZ). They are classic but there are so many of them. Although the exception I would say is Yu Yu Hakusho, definitely a great watch and it really is so good I'd just shove it at them and say "watch it. NOW". :3 (I'm such a hypocrite omg.) But there are also a lot of episodes to it so I understand if they won't want to start with that.

For the REAL answer if ANYONE wants to begin an anime: Soul Eater, Noragami and Demon Slayer. I feel like the plots for them are pretty easy to understand and can be captivating to begin with and give a pretty good example of what the different kind of anime there could be out there.

Hmm...I think if you just want to have a really chill slice of life anime to start, Lucky Star, Place to Place and Azumanga Daioh is good and very memorable/relatable! For those who enjoy magical girl things: Tokyo Mew Mew, Mermaid Melody, Sailor Moon (I mean it's a must), Cardcaptor (also long but also a must), Shugo Chara are good ones too. Psychological/mystery: Death Note, Erased, Higurashi, Code Geass. Shows you wanna see people kick ass: Jojo, Chainsaw Man, Cowboy Bebop, Kill la Kill.

I know it probably doesn't count as an anime, but Avatar the Last Airbender is a good one too if they want to kind of dip their toes into something remotely like anime. I honestly did wish I had seen this as a kid when I watched Nickelodeon, but I loved it when I finally watched it fully the first time in 2021.

i let my sub to ribbon (manga magazine) end and this year i decided to sub to ciao and nakayoshi as oppose to last year which was ribbon and nakayoshi lol i cannot DROP my nakayoshi sub esp wit shugo chara publishing !!!! i was really not impressed at all by ribbons monthly gift tbh and alot of times i thought to myself last year how bad i felt and how much i wanted ciao cuz they had some bomb ass shit ! the only cool thing ribbon had was their end of the year planner which i can buy from amazon japan anyway !!!!
