I’ve been rewatching dhmis and here are some fun and interesting things I’ve found (up to mid family episode)

Why does yellow have a wanted poster??? Is it cause he killed duck(theory)??? BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY I HAVE PROOF/THEORY

Anyways they tried to rename yellow to shrigis which is close to shringhold (which is the butterfly) and then later there’s a statue of the king I think that’s silly

There’s also a few mentions of rats and rat meat idk what that’s about

There’s also quite a lot of symbols hidden around in the episodes

How do you feel about the long-running theory of Dennis being the name of Yellow Guy being basically thrashed by the fact that he literally has "Y" on his bed in DHMIS 6

I accepted long ago that DHMIS is a dimension of chaos and horror that will never abide by even its own rules. The D on Yellow's overalls never meant anything, "Shrigis" was never implying anything. It is a world fumbling for sense and reason, but never being able to find it.

Ok very, very important question about the parents of my little baby firefly. What does Shrigy and Lazlo's relationship in your au look like? This is my favorite ship of all and your Shrigy (in both forms) is the sweetest I've ever seen (right after my Star when you drew her, God she's so beautiful 😭 tysm❤️)

i'd say they get along pretty well. or at least in the way interpret them.

lazlo is a good listener and doesn't have a problem with shrig or any other member of the funny house talking his ear off. laz's relaxed personality makes it easy for shrig to turn to him whenever he feels stressed. (which is a pretty big thing for him considering shrig has a hard time sharing his own feelings as he feels like that makes him a "burden.")

they talk a lot about what the afterlife might be like and their favorite activities to do together are stargazing and nature walks.

i'd say more but i'll save it for when their relationship develops more on my ask blog. :) 💙🌙🦋

I feel like special ones name would definitely start with Shrig- because in the love episode when they say "change your name" there's a split second where you see that they changed Yellow Guy's name to "shrigis", i assume that goes for the others' names too

YEAH it has to be something with Shrig, maybe a mix of a normal girl name + shrig

Like, Shrignold probably had a normal name before he joined the cult too. I think my first thought with Shrignold was "Arnold". So if Special One had a name it would be something like that too

I'm writing this series about my friends. Its an au if we were characters in a pirate world. We are all pirates. My other friend (@tailblazer-firewolf) has been drawing and animating stuff for it.

It's called Boil the Ocean and Blood, and I'm going to start talking about it because maybe people would like to hear about it.

I'll start with the Windstorm Dead. They are a group of 6 guys who met one day and decided they wanted to be pirates. They went on a lot of cool adventures and got into a lot of trouble!

The interesting thing about them is that they are all cursed by something. Hunter has a cursed ring which drives him insane pursuing power, Red has a cursed dagger, which makes him immortal but makes him look like a skeleton. Para discovered a trident which cursed him to transform into a giant squid if he gets too emotional. (Btw Para and Red are romantically involved). Square has a cursed coin which has forced him to flip said coin for important choices, and whatever the coin says he must do that. Noah has a cursed bead that allows him to see the future when he's sleeping, but the visions are not clear. Lastly Shrigis has always been cursed, and none of the crew knows why (he's a little eldritch entity)

In the first story, the Windstorm Dead break up like some sad boy band because Hunter goes off on the others for not utilizing their curses to their advantage. Para gets worked up from the fighting and transforms into a squid, Square goes after Hunter and tries to reason with him, but the ring has been infecting his mind. It ends with them all splitting up.

The rest of the story is everything that happens afterwards, including lots of other pirate guys.

this is 100% true! I actually think Shrignold remembers pretty much everything, however he buries it deep down mostly.

I think that Shrignold the Butterfly, or “pesky bee”, or “little baby pigeon” was actually MICHAEL when he was alive, y’know, from the story.

remember what they said

“change your name”

The name Yellow Guy was given was “Shrigis”, awfully similar to “Shrignold” which could be a sign that Shrignold wasn’t always his name

“Clean your brain”

meaning forget about your past, brainwash yourself, which would explain why Shrignold doesn’t mention that he is Michael, and yet knows the story in the first place

and the kicker?

In terms of Lamp's "DHMIS world is purgatory" theory, I really like the idea that Warren the Worm retained some memories about his human life before becoming a puppet (AKA before dying).

Warren never kept any of his friends during his life, so he's a friendship coach as a way to learn how to be one.

(TW: Mentions of potential suicide)

Warren's entire sideshow depicts him and his friends as not only humans, but as human children, or at the very least young teens. The sleepovers suggest a younger age to me. Duck even calls Warren a "boy," despite the latter being a clear adult with a prior job at OK STOP.

My headcanon is that Warren was an autistic, acne ridden boy who didn't quite fit in with his peers. He was overly clingy with his friends, didn't quite understand social norms, and felt rejected due to his emotional immaturity and loneliness.

Business was just a special interest of Warren's, as well as eagles, hence why he identifies as one now. He feels like a disgusting worm, but he wants to be majestic, noble and beautiful. He wants the freedom only flight could bring.

For any autistic person, trying to push your special interest onto your friends can be very relatable, and I think this was the case in his backstory presented. As well as his entire interaction with Yellow's Brain Friends.

Regardless, an autistic person's entire identity can revolve around their special interest, which I can definitely can relate to tbh. Therefore, he was, and still is, very passionate about it. Yet his old friends, being young, didn't understand nor like his "business ideas" or "business brain."

This wasn't their fault of course, but Warren felt utterly dejected and heartbroken from their rejection. So hurt by their clear dislike of his special interest, he deemed them "bad friends" and cut them out of his life completely.

His scribbling looks so junveille because he destroyed his pictures of them immediately afterwards.

Warren wished that they apologized to him, but regardless, he was done with them. The "It's much too late for that guys" line in his song literally ends on a ominous note. The rest of his song is cheery and repetitive, yet he frantically bangs the keys after this part. Perhaps hinting at a "early death."

And judging by Warren's clear distress when he is called names by the trio, he definitely was bullied outside of his friend group. Perhaps he was even bullied by them after this incident, which only fuelled his anger and passive aggressive behaviour.

I don't think any of this excuses Warren's bad behaviour by any means, but it does make him more of a tragic villain. All he really wants is a best friend to have a "restaurant style meal" with, so he could feel included in something.

Warren is fixated on the rules, as many autistic people are, but he is not self aware enough to understand what friendship really means.

huhu u got me to watch opal the other day since u keep talking abt it and im glad bc i Really Enjoyed It but !! anyways , i saw u mention mirror man doing makeup for someone and i keep thinking about it so Thoughts Incoming sorry in advance lmao. i think he would like to do claires makeup (and teach her abt it in general) when she gets a bit older,, both bc it seems like a legitimate hobby he would enjoy (i imagine if he werent Like That he probably could have been a makeup artist or something similar!) and bc he would like to ‘prettify’ her a bit.

and ah well,,, a lot of parents Like Him sometimes try 2 make their child a carbon copy of themselves or of an image they enjoy so if he grew to like claire more or already does like her enough for that (or just, wants things to revolve around him More) hed try to nudge things in that direction. and in his own way i think He might think hes doing something good, he knows when he was her age he would have killed to have a parent so eager to help him learn makeup and stuff but. claire isnt him. she probably isnt even interested in it at all but shes kinda desperate for Nice Moments and also doesnt wanna risk making him angry so she goes along with it. she always has her head in the clouds so all the things hes saying is too much at once but shes trying to comprehend it,,,,,

nd he keeps giggling at her for how awkwardly she moves her arm when putting on foundation and blush nd gets kind of annoyed with her for repeatedly flinching when he tries to help her with mascara nd teases her a bit for trying to taste the lip gloss (and keeps pointing out a flaw or two on her face “well, youve always had a sort of weird shaped face but youve always had the cutest little smile, its like Mine :)”) but they do it !! together !!! and nothing (that) bad happened !!!!!! so claire is happy,,,,,,,,,,, until that inevitably opens the gates of him trying to pick out what she wears for her and “””suggesting””” hairstyles for her and getting manipulative and even flatout Angry when she doesnt do what he wants her to (bc even when things Seem like theyre about claire they Are Not, its what He wants for her , in the end its still all about him) but, ive rambled enough to you already <:o) sorry for talking so much i just wanted to chat a bit abt opal with you !!!! hope ur doing well hehe . and im sorry this is rambly nd probably incomprehensible i just did a lot of work hkehri

AND I TOTALLY AGREE  the whole idea of him projecting himself onto her, trying to take over her, I think that is so fitting for the short itself tbh, because it’s a reflection ( mirrors, hehe ) of what the mother wants from Claire as well. The thing that terrified Claire near the end is the mother reaching to hold onto her, specifically after the mom said that she was going to become just like her. The idea of her becoming her parents? it terrifies her, clearly!!

And Mirror Man, he is what they call a “archetypal narcissistic abuser”, in my eyes at least,  and it would be really really common to see someone like that not only be so controlling and self absorbed that they treat their child like a decoration to themselves, but also use that child, especially as they get old enough to have opinions on the situation, to turn them against their partner-- such as.... the mom

so picture this

Claire is like 10-12, and she’s bright and she’s got a good heart but she’s WELL and truly Affected by the years of being brought up in that ridiculously toxic hell hole-- I mean house no idea if the grandpa would live that long uhhh in his state, but even if he does, he’s still very sick, disabled, and senile and he isn’t going to be much help. and Claire, she’s starting to have Opinions,, on how things are running around here,,      but in swoops Mirror Dad

He’s like........ it’s your mother’s fault. Oh, absolutely, have you seen her? I mean look at her, she’s disgusting. she’s a drug addict, she’s a drunk, she’s ugly, she’s the reason you feel like this-- and maybe some of that is understandable, i mean she’s a real mess of a mom, no mistake, but hey

Nobody’s going to tell Claire who made her that way! Nobody’s going to tell her Mirror Dad was the one who trapped her in an unloving, possibly violent relationship, with a kid, and ripped apart every inch of her self worth !!!

Nope. she just sees the aftermath. So mirror dad...... turns claire on her. And she starts to side with him on things and she starts to even kinda talk like him maybe even....... learns how to do that dark and scary insecurity voice of his and one day She walks by the.... Reflection Chamber and Mirror Man is there in that way He Always Is in that seat he always sits in, and he says something very very odd to her!   he raises a finger and curls it in and says    come sit on my lap you haven’t gotten too big to sit on my lap have you?? come here!! and i mean Claire is still very very uncomfortable even being near him, and this feels like a trap, but i mean she can’t just say no, and there’s a part of her that’s kinda hoping... maybe he really is trying to be nice. and so she does and she sits with her but you’ll notice he is never looking directly at her. Even as she’s approaching literally right in his line of sight, he stares straight into her reflection, never her face.  It’s like she’s not even real unless she’s in those mirrors.

And he tells her he wants to do her makeup! yay! how fun! and he tells her to close her eyes and pout her lips and try not to flinch when the sculpting starts or he’ll use his deep voice-- and how he’s going to finally FIX her. Goody!! then maybe the constant barrage of insults and negs and criticisms will stop!! (p.s. they wouldn’t have )

And so she opens her eyes..... and the face of her abuser is looking right back. It’s her face. Or it used to be-- now it’s literally his and it’s hideous-- it does not AT ALL belong on that body, and the only thing left of her is her big shiny eyes

and she  S C R E A M S that way Claire does,,,

but this time, loud enough to crack the mirrors, and stun the dad just long enough for him not to catch her in his hands when she leaps off his lap and books it for the attic the attic, the view of the billboard with the same worn out, not updated ad for Opal’s in the window. She locks the door, it doesn’t take long for mirror man to come banging on it, telling her she’s ungrateful, she doesn’t deserve what little she has, taking back every nice thing he ever said, etc,,,

and Opal just starts clawing off the makeup/clay/whatever from her face in the mirror’s glass reflection, putting her hair back into the pigtails her father said made her look stupid

but she isn’t Opal, she’s changed, she’s aged, but Opal-- she’s always the same!! happy!! cared for!! and what is she supposed to be under the makeup? huh? Who is she besides the abuse she’s put through, that billboard and what it sells to her?  she doesn’t know! nobody does nobody ever bothered to get to know what it even means to be Claire.

Shrigly? If shrignolds name was originally Arnold that means most the cult members would most likely replace the first two letters of their names with shrig. But yellows cult name was shrigis which kinda debunks my lil theory of how the cult renaming thing works.

Doi’s  eyes  follow  Balan’s  gestures  all  the  while,  they  swirl  in  and  out  of  focus,  dipping  and  out  of  what  was  being  said  as  arms  flail  this  way  and  that.  If  they  were  able  to  retain  two  things  here  1.  this  was  their  neighbor  after  all  -  exciting!  Just  like  the  Red  one  had  told  him  about.    2.  The  neighbor's  name  is  Balan...  3.  They  wanted  their  name.  ....Oh  wait  that  was  three  things.
