Chapter 1: The Awakening

Inspired by my conversation as anon with @animatorweirdo here and here. Huge shoutout to her for inspiring and encouraging me to write out my ideas. And don't forget to check out my main blog @springfountain for some interesting content reblogs. This was not beta read so I am always open to constructive criticism as long as it is respectful. Anyways, let's get into it.

Your eyes were heavy and your mind hazy as your math teacher kept on talking.

The more he explained the formulas on the board, the more confused you got.

His voice was so monotonous yet so calming that you swore he could be used as anesthesia in surgeries.

You tried to resist sleep as long as you could, but in the end, you let your mind wander for the class was simply unbearable.

No one noticed the darkness that descended upon the sleeping student at the back of the class. No one noticed as your soul was sucked away. Not even you.

You stirred awake as you felt your body ache all over. The moment you opened your eyes, you noticed that it was dark all around.

Man, did I sleep that much?

As your eyes adjusted to the new darkness, you noticed that you were not in your seat, but on a bed resembling the ones people used in rituals in movies you had seen. And there were glowing runes around you.

Then you felt it. A presence so dark and powerful, that it sent chills down your spine and froze you where you stood.

There came a voice, dark and sinister yet endearing:

“Look at me, my child.”

You obeyed and looked up. What you saw was the face of pure evil, darkness, and malice. And the face whispered a name to your mind: Melkor.

At that very moment, you understood that your life as you knew it was long gone.

Melkor came and spoke to you. He spoke of his beginning and how new ideas dawned at his heart. He spoke about the Song of the Ainur and the Spring of Arda. Then came bitterness and hatred to his voice and he grew even more menacing. He spoke about how he was defeated and imprisoned in the Halls of Mandos for 300 years. Then came a smirk to his face as he talked about how he tricked the Valar into letting him free and how he sewed lies and discord among the elves of Aman. He spoke of the destruction of the Two Trees and the Flight of Noldor.

He spoke for days and you listened, feeling the darkness and deceit but not cowering under it. You listened and learned. You learned of the world and of its deepest, darkest secrets as Melkor had sewed them with his songs.

And lastly, he spoke of you and your awakening.

As he spoke, you came to understand your purpose. Glaurung was dead at the hands of Fingon and his archers. And you were created to break the Siege of Angband and to be an obedient child to him, what Glaurung never was.

The rumbling voice of Melkor seized and he became silent, allowing you to take in all that had been said.

You let out a shakey breath as you contemplated his words. For all he spoke, he always spoke with a single objective: Join me or die.

You checked your mind. You remembered that you were an avid Tolkein fan before, having read all the books and even knowing all the timelines. You took that knowladge and put it the safest place of your mind, away from his reach. You were going to need it more than anything.

But none of that was important right now, for you had a dark vala awaiting your response. With no other choice, you got up and kneeled at his feet, swearing all loyalty to him.

When reading the Silmarillion, you had always wondered about the Oath of Feanor and its power. Now, as your soul was bound to your oath, you understood.

You stood kneeling at the feet of the Vala, awaiting a response.

Melkor smiled and cold shivers fell upon the back of your neck.

“Rise, my child. Now rest, for you will have much to learn.”

Et Melkor, voyant Fëanor wavered, et knowing que les Silmarils tenaient son coeur in a thrall, dit enfin:

‘Here is a strong château, et well gardé; mais ne pense pas that the Silmarils vont s’allonger safe dans any treasury dans le kingdom des Valar!’

But sa ruse overreached his but; ses paroles touchèrent too profond, et avaient éveillé un feu plus fierce qu’il n’avait designed.

Et Fëanor looked upon Melkor avec des eyes qui burned through son fair appearance et perça the capes of son esprit, perceivant there son fierce lust pour les Silmarils. 

Then la haine l’emporta over Fëanor’s peur, et il cursed Melkor et lui enjoignit be gone, disant:

‘Get thee gone de ma gate, thou jailcrow de Mandos!’

MUN: L  Members praised L’s complex and brilliant Hauntley Inn plot that reached its final chapter this month! As one member put it, “The whole Hauntley plot was beautiful and crafted so well that many people could get involved and show off their creations it was amazing to watch.” We couldn’t agree more! Kudos to L for some truly excellent plotting and writing. CHARACTER: WOLF! L wrote some truly beautiful self paras with Wolf recently, and we loved to see his unique role in the Hauntley Plot… and the spooky rom-com shenanigans of staying with the Qins (only in Swynlake, people!) Shoutout to our favorite baller #BallIsLife THREAD: TIPPING POINT! We loved to see how different characters jumped in and out of this thread, building up to the big moment of Vidia’s breakdown in front of Herc. A brought in so many characters and built up the stakes in such a compelling way– we love to see it! TASK: JASPER AND IAN’S POSTCARDS! Our members couldn’t pick just one! Both Jasper’s and Ian’s postcards got multiple noms, and we couldn’t agree more. We loved these peeks into the past, even if they tugged at the heartstrings a little :’)

okay another hzd playthru post:

love how the proving is like… impossible to fail? i mean the game kinda makes you win it, but that’s not even what i mean: aloy is sabatoged and in last place, and as she looks around desperately one of the supervisors tells her she might as well walk the rest: as long as she finishes, she’s a brave. the single winner gets a boon, but there’s no fail state. adults are supervising the entire race — we interact with three and there’s voice lines that appear to indicate a fourth, and they’ll all positioned around the route. aloy tries to take a different route and is told not to: people died on it and it’s been shut down. it’s still supposed to be a challenge and proof of skill — you have to fight a machine, take a part from it, run an obstacle course — but it is not intended to be unsafe. you do not need to win, it is not as matter of only the best are good enough: everyone is good enough. my guess is that teb just didn’t try, not that he failed: he decided he would rather be a tailor and opted out entirely. i just. really like that little subversion, you know?

speaking of the proving i love, love, love how it messes with tropes when it comes to vala and bast. bast is the childhood bully, the asshole, the leader of a little gang of friends. vala is welcoming and friendly and she and aloy hit is off right away. they spend the day of the proving hanging out, rolling their eyes at bast as he is a general douche to them. the three are, everyone tells us, about equal in strength and skill. it is a foregone conclusion that either vala or bast will win the proving, and when aloy does instead it’s only by seconds. i have consumed media before and so i know that vala and bast will be aloy’s rivals. vala the friend who aloy sometimes helps, or who sometimes helps her: she will probably show up for the final fight and speak up to support aloy against the prejudices of the nora. bast will either be the annoying bully who is quickly made pathetic and outstripped by the real dangers of the plot, or will be the annoying rival who grows to have a grudging respect for aloy and shows up for the final boss. 

but then they are abruptly killed. the antagonists show up and kill a bunch of unnamed teenagers, and bast and vala immediately work to help aloy drive the attackers off and get the other kids to safety. and then someone shows up with a machine gun, and none of them have ever seen one before. vala is killed, and bast when he runs to her. (also: quick shoutout, i love that bast is just this douche, just the worst, but when the situation gets serious he immediately says he’s with vala and aloy and is clearly really concerned when vala dies. it’s like three seconds, but even the bully gets a little redemption arc. when the going gets tough, he reveals he wasn’t so bad. compare to, say, resh.) because lol no that isn’t what this game is. aloy doesn’t get to rest or make friends or find a place for herself in nora society: she needs to keep moving. she needs to go. we need to really, really hate helis, not just for killing rost but for ordering the deaths of your friends, for not even caring. 

and then we get varl, who i adore, who pretty blatantly has a storyline you could imagine vala, his sister, having had, who probably won the proving when he ran it and asked to serve with his mother (because lord knows sona wouldn’t have let him otherwise). and i just. i love varl guys. i love his complicated feelings about vala’s death: how he mourns her but also mourns the relationship they could never have, because their mother always pitted them against one another. i love sona, who is capable and you can understand to be inspiring and a good leader, but just a terrible mother. 

this is absolutely unimportant but i always kinda wonder about the little timeskip between the proving and aloy being made seeker. she was out for a bit, she was badly hurt enough that people believed she wouldn’t survive her injuries and needed time to recover, and there’s some other signs time passed: rost has been buried, there was a huge battle, and erend has had enough time to a) go back to meridian, b) reunite with his sister, c) only for ersa to go off without him and get murdered, d) for her body to be recovered and prepared for burial. like realistically aloy should have been out for months with all sorts of broken bones, but it must have at least been a few weeks, right? but also this is a game where you can walk from colorado to utah in about ten minutes so you know. but still, this is the useless detail shit i live for.

I love when the SG-1 crew pops up in SGU bc like YES it’s fanservice but the good kind where it’s just like? keeping them in the universe of the show and showing that even when we’re not watching, even when they’ve been promoted and are separated, they’re still a team. they’re still family. they’re doing good for the world just like they always have.

idk it’s just??? really nice to see them all working as a team even though their scenes are rarely actually “together” (filmed with the actors in the same room). maybe the others just didn’t want to come back for another show but it makes me think about where Teal’c is, where Vala is, where Cam is. like it makes me believe in the world building because sometimes the answer IS to just call Jack, or just ask Daniel, or call in the Hammond w/ Carter as the backup forces. They get to make the shoutouts and use the resources.

What I like about them: Elizabeth is a phenomenal leader—tough as nails when she needs to be but also cares extremely deeply for her people and will do whatever she has to to keep Atlantis safe. Possibly the best female leader-character I’ve ever seen. Also she is really really ridiculously attractive.

What I dislike about them: I can’t think of anything offhand that I specifically dislike about her as a character tbh

Favourite moment: Any time she gets forceful and commanding and/or asserts her authority. Special shoutout to the time she was tied to a chair and blindfolded, alone in hostile territory, and still managed to turn the negotiations in favor of what she wanted

Least favourite moment: The Thing That Happened To Her (yall know the one) like she did not deserve that okay. Although [SPOILER]

apparently in the Stargate Atlantis Legacy novels, which are officially post-show canon, it turns out that her original real self ended up ascending? And then de-ascends and gets brought back to Atlantis? Or something? I haven’t read the books so idk how they laid that out exactly.

An interesting AU for this character: If she and Carter could have been co-leaders of Atlantis—that would have been so. good. They would have worked together FABULOUSLY I have zero doubt. What a team they would have been and we would have been blessed to watch it.

A crossover: Not sure if it qualifies as a crossover, since it’s just the concept that I like to project onto other media rather than the characters, but technically a crossover with Mercedes Lackey’s Elemental Masters novels, in the sense that I LOVE Lackey’s take on elemental magic and trying to think of which elements various characters from various things would be aligned with. Elizabeth would be a fire master I think. Probably this would qualify better as an AU but I already had an answer for that one lol.

OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship): Weirdly, Elizabeth is probably the only fave I have in anything where I don’t actually have a ship for her. I really like her as a single lady, having flings or short-term relationships when it suits her but being “married” to her job by choice otherwise. 

Other ships?: Well, if we’re talking in terms of flings/short term relationships, I feel like it could be interesting to see her and Vala hook up for a little while! Purely for light-hearted temporary fun on both their parts (especially since I’m Very Fond of the Vala/Daniel ship lol)

BROTP: Teyla. Two woman leaders-of-their-people working together for the good of all, I love it

NOTP: I’m a McShep girl, so naturally I’m not into Sparky lol. I also see Elizabeth’s relationship with John as being rather like an older sister/younger brother one, although that may be me projecting as the older sister of younger brothers lol

An assortment of headcanons!: I like to headcanon her as bisexual, which I’ll be honest is pure self-indulgence since my own bi ass is pretty much in love with her; I also think that she needs a certain degree of risk/danger/difficulty in her life or she gets bored, although she would never actually admit that

HOLLAND & THE MONTHS AFTER EVERYTHING GETS FUCKED UP IN KINGSMAN AU: FT. ME CRYING

here’s the background.

holland n vor went out on a mission that went really fuckin pear-shaped really libby ya don’t say

vor was killed  ;  holland survived but was taken prisoner, shoutout 2 the danes i assume 

it was six months before they got him back.  i’m actually quite deep into the reasons why it took that long, why it didn’t take longer, and the whole debate that carried on surrounding this in my head, but i don’t wanna make this post even more rambly than it’s already gonna be.  feel free to hmu in ims or dscord tho

what happens next?

so holland gets back to hq and everything’s just..... normal

they’ve finished, or near enough finished, the recruitment for vor’s replacement

they’ve drunk their toast, had the funeral, adjusted to having one less among them, dealt with it however they need to, and are mostly used to having a new face around them 

everyone else has had those six months to adjust and move on.  holland hasn’t, and it’s sort of like stepping back into another world where everything on that mission didn’t happen, or ros vortalis just never existed, except for the moments when holland passes one of the other vortalis siblings on their way somewhere and their eyes meet for a second

he’s not particularly close with the other agents, either.  a couple, gets on with alright.  most, he’s indifferent to at best, but they’re still the same elitist snobs he started working with years ago and it’s a relationship of mutual tolerance and dislike.  

( his dog’s still there, though.  vala does a lot to get him through the first few months after coming back. )

he’s not allowed back in the field immediately.  i’m still deciding how long for, but it was months at the least  ;  even though his situation’s not as bad as in canon, he’s still traumatised and only now getting a chance to work through anything that happened, including vor’s death, which he’s sort of.  pushed to one side for six months.

so he sees a lot of medical for a while, initially for physical injuries and malnourishment but then mostly for therapy.  when he was still missing, they were just about at the stage of deciding to re-open recruitment to replace him, too, but now he’s back they’ve dropped that and are waiting until he’s ready.  

okay but does this have a slightly happy ending?

it does!

holland might not be close w the agents he directly works with, but like half the vortalis siblings also work around kingsman in various capacities, and they help a lot.  

the first year, he goes with them to celebrate día de muertos ––– their idea, since they’re doing it anyway, but holland’s missed every other opportunity for closure everyone else had, and it’s not like everything’s fine after that, but it helps.

therapy does pay off, too.  after some time, he goes back to doing missions, and tolerating the worst of his colleagues as much as possible.  

the truly satisfying memory of naiyana decking one of them for voicing a problem w how long they had to work with one less agent because of holland needing time to recover from, u know, literally the worst months of his entire life also helps with that.  hitting one of them himself is never quite worth the shit it would start even though it’s really fucking tempting sometimes, but this is a good second.

some years later, they lose another agent and start the recruitment process again.  this time, holland’s there to pick his candidate, and when he brings ojka back to hq with him, it’s with the memory of his own recruitment in mind ––– vor telling him how he wanted to choose someone with no special connections or privileged background, someone from the same place he came from who could go up against everyone else and win.  

that chance got holland where he is now, and he’s going to give the same one to ojka.  may the best candidate win.

Lmao I feel a little bad bc my DM has this plot about these mysterious nightmares plaguing the city our party was in, but our party was broke as hell and didn’t care that much so we dicked around for a couple sessions and managed to get to level three before immediately losing the job we had taken on because we suck.

Now jobless, we decided to look into the dream thing a little more. We found a wizard(?) who was also interested in it, and we spent the session helping him identify the creatures causing the nightmares.

We found out the creatures were fey—my favored enemy—, and after some fucking around trying to track where the creatures went, I remembered that A) I’m playing a revised Ranger and B) as of this session I’m level 3 and get the new and improved Primeval Awareness.

My poor DM let out the longest sigh when I whipped it out and asked for the number and location of all the fey creatures within a five mile radius. Sorry not sorry for ruining the intrigue. Next session we stick some fey full of arrows. Boo yah.
