The fact that the Todoroki family storyline is a tragedy.
The fact that the manga ends with every single one of the Todoroki children remaining irreversibly damaged.
The fact that sometimes hurt is just hurt and there isn't a higher reason for it.
The fact that despite taking different approches, none of the Todoroki children are judged by the narritive for their choices in moving forward and finding their own peace.
The fact that Horikoshi didnt set out to write a story of justice in his superhero comic, but instead wrote a realistic take on how abuse survivors actually get treated by the world we live in.

snowmen
pairing: s. todoroki x reader summary: Shouto can’t quite understand the point of making snowmen, but he’s still having fun. wc: 1.3k event masterlist
Dating was hard.
There was so much to understand about a person, both before and after you committed to them. Fitting a new person into your schedule, balancing old routines while creating new ones. Meshing personalities to create a dynamic that not only worked but thrived.
Relationships were work.
But dating Shouto Todoroki meant not only dealing with the typical growing pains of a new relationship, but understanding that he was raised differently than most others.
At the start of your relationship, when Shouto first began opening up to you about his childhood with Endeavor, it was hard. You could barely reconstruct the idea you had about the long time number two hero with the abusive asshole Shouto told you about. You were so angry on his behalf, and for so long.
But that anger wasn’t helpful. It wasn’t going to change anything.
Not to say you no longer despised Endeavor—no, you still refused to even look at him on rare events when you crossed paths when Shouto took you to visit his family. But you turned your hatred for Endeavor into affection for Shouto, and took it upon yourself to make sure he never felt as alone as he did in his childhood.
And maybe you had another goal of making sure he made up for lost memories, too.
“Sho, you’re going to be too cold, You fussed, frowning at your boyfriend as he lingered by the door while you finished dressing for the snow outside. The dorms were surprisingly quiet for a Saturday, but you could only assume that everyone was off preparing for the rapidly encroaching holidays.
“I believe I’ll be fine,” Shouto quelled your worry with a smile, a little teasing because of course he’d be fine—he could regulate his body temperature with his flames, if needed. Still, you chewed on the inside of your cheek, contemplating any consequences of letting him just use his quirk if he got uncomfortably cold.
But you didn’t want him to get to the point that he was uncomfortable, at all.
“C’mere,” You ordered, grabbing his scarf from the surprisingly organized coat closet. Shouto followed your command, stepping closer and ducking his head slightly to allow you to wrap the scarf around his neck carefully. You worked dutifully to make sure he was warm, even going so far as buttoning up his jacket for him.
Though, that part was hard with fumbling fingers under his always intense stare. It didn’t matter how many months you had been together, he always found a way to make you flustered.
“Are we all set, now?” He asked, taking his turn to appraise you and make sure that you were dressed appropriately warm. You shook your head quickly, but before he could ask what was missing, you darted forward to kiss him quickly.
“Now we’re good,” You hummed victoriously, smiling at your sweet boyfriend who always humored your dramatics. Turning towards the door, you slipped your gloved hand in his and led him outside.
A fresh layer of heavy snow had fallen overnight, and you had been practically jumping with giddiness as you woke up Shouto to beg him to join outside. He had agreed easily, for the low price of your love and affection, which you would have given him regardless.
“What exactly are we doing out here?” Shouto questioned as you marched the two of you into the snow bank that made up the front yard of Class 1A’s dorm building.
“Have you ever made a snowman?” You knew better than to assume that he had, especially since his very life until he came to UA was incredibly sheltered. You watched as he shook his head gently, and you couldn’t help but press another kiss to his slowly chilling lips.
“I’ve seen them before. Fuyumi and Natsuo would make them in the courtyard, but I was forbidden from joining them.” He explained calmly, like it wasn’t a heart wrenching confession. Frowning, you set a gloved hand on his cheek, thumb brushing against the lower edge of his scar. As always, he leaned into your touch.
“Well, I’m going to fix that.” You assured him, face warming despite the cold as he delicately held your wrist with one hand to press a kiss to the heel of your palm despite the glove keeping him from your skin. The longer you were together, the more comfortable he was in showing affection instead of just returning it.
“I’m not sure I know where to start.” He confessed, and you smiled teasingly at him before tugging him into a crouch beside you.
“First, you have to make a snowball. Then we roll it around so it collects more snow until we have the base of the snowman.” You explained, digging your hands into the fresh snow to pack together a decent starting point. Instantly, nostalgia tore through you with all the times you had made a snowman as a child.
A fresh wave of anger towards Endeavor washed over you as you realized that Shouto didn’t have happy memories like you did.
“Wouldn’t it just be easier if I used my quirk?” Shouto’s voice dragged you back from the edge of your anger, and the genuine curiosity in his voice made you giggle. For a moment, he looked between you and the snow like he was trying to find the best way of attacking the problem.
“You’re not thinking of the fun.” You assured him, jutting out your hand with the ball of snow meant to be the base. Carefully, Shouto took it from you, and examined it like it was a complex piece of technology.
“We would still have a snowman.” He reasoned, but you rolled your eyes playfully at his stoicism.
“It’d be an iceman.” You teased, pressing a kiss to his cheek to soothe the burn of your rejection of his idea. Sometimes, it was hard to tell when he was joking or being serious, but you had a feeling that he was genuinely trying to find the fastest way to accomplish your goal. “It’s better making it the hard way. Besides, don’t you like spending time with me?”
“Of course I do. Why would you think otherwise?” You should have known that he wouldn’t have gotten your teasing. You felt a little guilty, especially as you spotted the frown he wore at your supposed suggestion.
“I’m just joking, Sho,” You assured him, gently squeezing his arm for extra measure. Start rolling the base, will you? I’ll make the middle part.”
It went smoothly from there, constructing the snowman and decorating it with random articles of clothing from the both of you. The scarf you had tied diligently around Shouto’s neck before you went outside, the gloves that kept your fingers warm, a hat you had been gifted. The face was made out of stones dug out from near the porch of the dorms and a carrot borrowed from Sato’s rabbit, and though it was a little wobbly, you adored it.
“I think it looks cute,” You grinned, rubbing your hands together and blowing on them to warm them up as you and Shouto admired your masterpiece. He stood behind you, and without you needing to ask, he wrapped his arms around you and trapped your hands between his.
“The face looks weird,” Shouto admitted, and you snorted a laugh at his brutal honesty. Nodding, you pressed a kiss against your conjoined hands in silent agreement. You felt his chin tuck over your shoulder and rest there, and you could do nothing but enjoy his close proximity. “I’m glad we did this. Thank you, love.”
“You’re welcome.”
He didn’t need to say the words. You would have made a million snowmen with him if he had asked.
Dating was hard, controlling your anger towards Endeavor was harder.
But you did it all and more for Shouto.

when he first stumbled across the artwork that was so proudly displayed on the side of a convenience store, he couldn’t believe his eyes. he didn’t think people were as fond of him as they said they were, so to see his own portrait staring back at him, colors mixing together perfectly. the smell of spray paint was fresh in the air, the chemicals entering his nostrils.
he walked inside, the chime of the bells sounding throughout the store. people bustling by him as some stopped and stared, he may have recently debuted as a hero, but he wasn’t unknown. the clerk was sitting, mindlessly scrolling on his phone as he walked up to the till.
“hey, by chance d’ya know who did the grafitti art outside?” he mumbled, quiet.
“the hell?! there’s grafitti on my store?!”

໑Synopsis໑ How a platonic relationship would develop with them and what’s included (also somewhat of an analysis of character).
໑Characters included໑ Bakugo Katsuki, Kirishima Eijiro, Shoto Todoroki
໑A/N໑ This is my first write since my Wattpad days 8 years ago. Some characters could be a little ooc and there may be grammatical errors. Enjoy ! <3
Word count: 572
Bakugo Katsuki is a complicated and complex man. It’s not new to hear of the many layers this guy has, making it incredibly difficult to break down his barriers. If you’re a new student the probability that he would even regard you as anything but an insignificant extra is slim. It would take a lot for him to even acknowledge you let alone get close to you.
Bakugo Katsuki is the type of guy that would take ages to warm up to you, if ever. If you’re lucky enough to gain his respect, which would only happen because of your powerful quirk or strong willed mindset, it could take a few months. Becoming friends with him would be an even harder feat. Halfway into the year if you managed to gain his respect, maybe just maybe you’d be able to become an acquaintance of his but nothing more.
Being Bakugo Katsuki’s acquaintance would mean you probably are friends with Kirishima as well. Maybe you are in a group chat with Bakusquad, which is how you would’ve gotten Bakugo’s number. If you decided to text him privately, he would give dry one word responses or leave you on read. I could imagine y/n asking for homework help only to receive a simple thumbs down react and a “no”. Of course, if you really wanted help from him specifically it would take a week of constant pestering to get him to crack. He would probably say something like, “if I say yes will you shut the fuck up and stop bothering me?!” Or something along those lines.
As Bakugo Katsuki’s friend, you’re not going to get a lot more. He might be more willing to help you study for upcoming exams, and definitely would want to train with you (it’s more of a competitive thing to him than anything else). I could see him maybe just maybe cooking for his friends but only because you’re “eating unhealthy” and he thinks it’ll make you preform poorly while sparring with him… which would impact the ‘competition’. You might get lucky and drag him to the mall with the Bakusquad once in a blue moon, if it fit his schedule and he felt like it.
Overall, Bakugo Katsuki isn’t an easy person to know on a deeper level, but I don’t think it’s impossible. I’m sure with enough time and patience, along with his personal development/growth over the years would allow you to get closer. It would never be the same as what you expect from other people, so if you want a “normal” friendship he won’t give you that. I think in a way he would end up pushing you to be a better person yourself, fixing any bad routines or habits you might have. Regardless, if you did stick around and managed to gain his respect and companionship he would be there for you when it mattered (in his own way of course).
Kirishima Eijiro is a kind soul, with his own set of flaws. As much of a well loved person as he is, he is also insecure. I imagine his desire to be “manly” stems from feeling like he wasn’t good enough, or a result of being bullied. It’s not unfamiliar to hear him being a sweetheart to everyone, I mean this guy would love to get to know you as a new student. He would offer to show you around because how could he not help someone in an unfamiliar environment?
Kirishima Eijiro loves to help. I think in a way, being well liked by his peers is something he’s always craved yet never received, hence why he tries to be the manliest for everyone. He would hate for anyone to feel the way he did, and maybe still does? With you he’d invite you to sit and eat lunch with him and his friends, or go out to see a movie with them. Always seeking to invite you, and would offer some solid advice if you felt down about anything. It wouldn’t take much to become friends with him.
Once you’re Kirishima Eijiro’s acquaintance, you’re also his friend. I think he kinda skips that part when forming platonic relationships with others. Why not if you like who the other person is, right? Being his friend would be fun. You would be able to go to him for help with anything, really. Need help doing your hair? Awesome, you can even help dye his hair. Don’t want to go to the store alone? Perfect! He’s been dying to grab these new protein bars anyways. Movie nights are a must, you both would have weekly marathons with all your favourite movies. He would also love to train with you, totally not to show off how manly he is or whatever…
Overall, Kirishima Eijiro is the epitome of a green flag. Just don’t forget he has his insecurities. This guy has been through it, feeling like he’s not enough or unlikeable to the rest of society. He probably doubts himself and how others see him as much as he trusts that they are honest and true. It’s always an inner conflict with him, regardless of how he perceives to others on the outside. That’s why, he would do anything for the people he cares about the most. A ride or die type of guy.
Todoroki Shoto is an enigma, honestly. Not so much in a bad way, but with how complicated it is to get a read on the guy. His family troubles clearly contributed to his distance and lack of emotion comprehension. He seems even more challenging than Bakugo. This man is more detached than anyone, and his lack of ability to form proper human connection will make it hard to get acknowledgment from him. If you’re new and interested in him, you’ll have to approach him first.
Todoroki Shoto is icey cold, literally and figuratively. Not that he can’t warm up to you, or doesn’t have the ability to get to know other people it’s just so incredibly difficult for him. He doesn’t want to be a failure, having dealt with feelings like that all throughout his childhood. Never having proper support from anyone, including barely having any friends. He was a loner, so much so that it’s just how he behaves in social settings even now. It’s routine, and his normal. That’s why you would have to show him or give him a reason to want to learn about others.
As Todoroki Shoto’s acquaintance I don’t imagine he would initiate anything. He would probably be a dry texter, but unlike Bakugo it’s not because he doesn’t care, it’s because he’s just like that. Would also find it hard to understand any jokes you might make, taking them quite literally instead. He wouldn’t be unfriendly as an acquaintance per say, but you will often not know how he’s feeling or if he even likes you. That’s why it’s up to you to get to know him, and approach him because if you don’t good luck being friends with him
Once you’re friends with Todoroki Shoto, he’ll comply with any activities you want to do, nonchalantly going along with it. Most hangouts will be going out to grab soba or walks in the park. Simple things that don’t require a lot of socializing or other people. A private guy, prefers to keep to himself. You’ll end up dragging him anywhere social. Since Todoroki is sort of friends with Midoriya, by default y/n would be too. Almost like a trio. Almost.
Overall, Todoroki Shoto is an emotionally distant guy. He doesn’t socialize much, nor does he find platonic connections easy or simple. Despite all of that if you two did manage to become friends you’d be doing most of the work. He might not know how to deal with others emotions, but he would make for an excellent listener. Willingly listening to you rant about everything an anything, just being there and nodding along to what you have to say. He would appreciate that you try so hard to be his friend, knowing that he’s not an easy person to let others in.

Warnings: Fluff, Established relationship, Shoto being smitten, Nervoushoto, Puppy Love 🫶... and spelling mistakes
❥ · ゚₊ To celebrate finally having a day off from hero work, your boyfriend of 4 years had taken you out to dinner at a famous restaurant. So here you sat, in front of the love of your life, dressed in your formal attire and happily looking over the menu. when you looked up to ask your boyfriend what he'd be getting, you found him already gazing at you. his eyes glazed over with pure innocent love, his head resting on his hand as his focus zeroed in on you.
"shoto? honey you okay?"
your lover blinked a few times, perking up when he registered your attention on him, "pardon my love?"
"you were staring," you smiled teasingly at him, setting the menu down with a singsong voice.
his eyes widened, bashfulness creeping up his neck from being caught. the icyhot hero faked a cough behind his closed hand as he averted his gaze, "i cant help it.. not when you look so beautiful tonight my dear.."
you shyly smiled, turning away and holding up the menu to hide your embarrassed face, how dare he turn the teasing on you. and do it so unintentionally??? a finger hooked on top of the crease of the menu gained your attention, gently tugging it down, your boyfriend flashed you a soft smile.
"did you have something to ask me, dear?"
"wha? oh yeah! so i was wondering,,,"
and so the dinner continued, with him listening attentively to your rants and you giving him your full attention when he told you what happened just last week between pro heroes ground zero and deku. in the midst of eating your dessert, you're overthinking brain suddenly reminded you of how much this dinner was going to cost.
shoto must've seen your widening eyes because he gently placed his hand on yours and calmly asked what was on your mind.
you waved it off with your free hand, "it's nothing honey, just calculating how we'd split the bill."
his face morphed into something between hurt and confused, "split?" he asked with a tilt of his head.
"yeah nevermind, i'm able to pay for the entire thing anyway-"
the intertwining of your hands made you pause, the intensity of the stare he gave you caught you off guard, was it something you said?
"my darling," he raised your intertwined hand to his lips, pressing a loving kiss on your knuckles, "as my wife, you shouldn't feel obligated to pay the bill at all. i'll take care of these things love, dont worry."
your jaw dropped open, a silent gasp escaping as you felt a pound in your chest. a melting sort of warmth crept up your neck, threatening to make it up your face in record time.
shoto blinked at your reaction immediately backtracking in case he offended you, "i mean, if paying the bill means that much to you, then i'd never force you. i just wanted to make my point clear."
no words came out of your mouth. it felt like shoto's gentle squeeze on your hand was the only thing keeping you sane.
"what did you call me?" was the first thing that spilled from your lips.
your lover thought over his words for a second, "love?"
you gripped his hand tighter, "no before that." it was almost funny how desperate you were to hear him say it again.
he thought even harder, nearly drawing a blank, until the realization flashed across his face and suddenly he was averting his eyes from you again.
seeing the red hue on his cheeks was enough to make you melt, "shoto? what did you call me?"
he bit his lip and forced himself to make eye contact, nearly stuttering as he answered you with the most bashful tone you've ever heard from him, "i.. i may have called you.. my wife.."
your bright smile and the gentle caress of your thumb on his hand seemed to relax his tense shoulders, "y'know, i like it when you call me that." your voice was barely above a whisper, luckily your lover was already straining to hear your response.
he sputtered at your answer, "you do?"
you simply hummed in affirmation while going back to eating your dessert, hoping your calmness could hide how wild your internal thoughts were.
shoto stayed still for a while, happy to just stare at you while his left pocket suddenly felt impossibly heavy. shoto gently grazed his pocket with the hand that wasnt holding yours, already feeling the tiny box inside that held a platinum ring that he just couldn't wait to see placed on your left ring finger.
"that's.. that's good to hear.." he whispered.

pairing: s. todoroki x reader summary: A mission goes wrong, and a cabin in the mountains becomes a safe house. wc: 1.7k event masterlist
The mission had gone wrong.
It hadn’t been a particularly high level case, so your agency had taken on the request. You’d been teamed up with Shouto, who you’d known only as just friends since your days at UA. You had been in Class B, and only interacted with his class during training exercises or the Sports Festival.
He was a nice guy, and you knew you could have been trapped with someone much worse as the mission went south.
It had taken you out of the city and into the snowy mountains. The villain you had been tracking had a quirk that helped him get the better of you in the snow, and despite Shouto being able to use his ice and flames to combat the cold, he had pulled back at the last second to rescue you.
“I swear, I’m fine.” You hissed through your chattering teeth. One of your arms was slung over Shouto’s shoulders as he helped carry you through the snowy landscape towards the only sign of life on the mountain you desperately wanted to get off.
But there, in the distance, was an old cabin that looked entirely abandoned.
“You are on the verge of getting hypothermia. Frostbite is a risk. You are not fine.” Shouto mechanically listed off your injuries while helping you hobble through the snow.
“But the villain—”
“Catching him will not be worth it at the cost of your life.” He countered, his calm exterior helping trick your mind into believing him. But you were a hero; you were simply wired differently. Catching villains and saving the day was always worth the risk. “He’s a low level thief with ties to burglary rings. We’ll rest up and catch him tomorrow.”
Body shaking with the force of your shivers, you couldn’t argue with his logic. Especially not as you nearly fell to your knees when he loosened his hold on you to pry open the door to the cabin. Rushing inside to escape the bitter cold of the mountain, you were silently thankful that he had insisted on finding shelter for the night. No doubt you wouldn’t have been able to carry on much longer.
“Take off the wet outer layer of your suit. I’ll start a fire and look for blankets.” He ordered, taking control of the situation the same way he had done when he forced you to stop tracking the villain through the cold. You followed his directions after limping towards the dusty fireplace Shouto used his quirk to ignite. There were a few old logs left by whoever owned the cabin, and they caught fire easily.
Instantly, the warmth brushed against your chilled skin. Even though retreating had gone against your instincts, you knew Shouto had been right when he said you wouldn’t have lasted much longer against the villain in your state.
Distantly aware of Shouto moving around the small cabin, you crouched in front of the flames he created for you. The fireplace crackled and popped, a soothing sound that helped settle your nerves. While you waited for Shouto to return, you attempted to reach out to your agency that had organized the mission. Frowning, you realized the storm on the mountain that had forced you into the cabin had also knocked out any reception for the communication devices you had.
“We’re stuck here until we can get out of here on our own,” You held out the comm to show Shouto as he returned with a foraged blanket in hand. His neutral expression didn’t waver, but you watched him contemplate your options as he unbuttoned the outermost layer of his hero suit. In preparation for fighting in the frozen mountains, you both had dressed in layers. And thankfully, not each layer had gotten wet from the snow.
“The storm should blow by in the morning, and you’ll be warm enough to carry on by then.” He came to the same conclusion you had, and you nodded in agreement. You were done for the night, still shivering despite sitting in front of the fire. And Shouto had been right; you had recognized the signs of frostbite in your fingers as soon as you got inside the cabin.
Wordlessly, you watched Shouto settle carefully onto the ground beside you, near the fireplace. He stretched his legs out in front of him, spread slightly and bent at his knees. You might have been imagining it, but you could have sworn you saw a faint blush coloring Shouto’s cheeks.
Must just be the cold.
“You’re still shivering. Use my body heat and the fire to warm up.” He suggested calmly, and suddenly your face was a bright shade of red.
You were a professional, licensed hero. You fought villains on the daily, faced death more times than you could count. You had dedicated hours upon hours to training, to making yourself as strong as you could in order to save lives while risking your own.
And you were blushing at the mere mention of getting close enough to Shouto so that you could share body heat.
“You don’t have to do that. I’ll be fine.” You stammered out a response, forcing yourself to stare into the fire and avoid looking at the man you had admired from a distance since your days at UA.
“I don’t mind. You’re freezing.”
Your teeth chose that very moment to chatter loudly, and you blushed even harder at your body betraying you. Suddenly unable to deny the truth to him any longer, you relented and shuffled closer to him beside you.
Initially, you had only played on laying against his side, but as soon as you were close enough, Shouto set one of his large, warm palms on your side to guide you so that you sat between his stretched out legs, with your back against his chest. The position, at the very least, kept him from seeing just how flustered you were.
And as if he hadn’t already done enough damage to your heart, he wrapped his arms around you loosely so that he could help warm you up.
It took a few minutes for your heart to calm enough to let you speak.
“Thank you for doing this.” Your voice was quiet. It felt like if you spoke any louder, you would disrupt the peaceful lull that had fallen over the two of you. The fireplace crackled in the background, and you could hear the window whistling through the aged windows. But sitting so close to Shouto, you were incredibly comfortable, despite your initial reluctance. He was warm and strong, and even though your body had come so close to giving out due to the cold, you felt safe wrapped up by him.
“You don’t need to thank me.” He matched your quiet tone, voice close to your ear. You were glad you could blame your brush with hypothermia on the shiver that raced down your spine. “Though the circumstances are not ideal, I’m glad we got to spend time together.”
“You mean me nearly freezing to death wasn’t your ideal way to hang out?” Teasing to deflect from the heat that rose up in your face at the insinuation of his words. How else were you supposed to react when Shouto Todoroki told you he was glad you got to spend time together?
“No.” Always calm, always level headed. You didn’t think anything of his words at first. “I wanted to take you out to dinner, first.”
You paused, struggling to process his words. Shouto had always been unattainable, out of reach. Had he really just admitted that he wanted to take you out? It was hard to believe; part of you worried that you had actually collapsed out in the snow, and everything since then had been a hallucination.
“Wait, really?” You twisted in his arms, sitting up and leaning back to look at him to make sure you hadn’t misunderstood. Like always, his face was unreadable. Handsome, but unreadable. “Like a date?”
“Fuyumi—my sister—suggested that I ask you. She said that’s what you do when you think you have romantic feelings for someone.” Shouto explained
“You talk about me to your sister?” That wasn’t the only thing your mind could latch onto, but it was all that came out when you struggled to form words. It was all happening a little fast. You hadn’t thought Shouto even considered you a friend ten minutes earlier, but now he suddenly wanted to take you on a date and spoke about you to his sister?
Your head was spinning, but not in a bad way.
“If you do not feel the same way, please tell me so we can talk about something else.”
Was he… getting embarrassed? Nothing in his expression changed, but you could almost see his confidence falling the longer you didn’t give him any sort of confirmation that you also wanted to go to dinner with him.
“Shouto,” You smiled, settling your hand over one of his arms still loosely wrapped around your middle to help warm you. “I’d love to go to dinner with you sometime. And I think it’s sweet you talk to your sister about me.”
“That’s good.” From your spot so close to him, you watched a hesitant smile trace over his lips, and though you had always agreed that he was the most handsome—even in your days at UA—you nearly felt your heart stop at how stunning he was. “Are you available next week sometime? With us both being pros, it might be hard to get our schedules to match, but I want to try.”
“I want to try, too.” You assured him, squeezing the arm wrapped around you. Settling back into your place trapped between his body’s warmth and the fireplace, you felt a smile you couldn’t wipe away grow on your lips. “But maybe we should focus on getting off this mountain first.”
“Alright,” He agreed, wrapping his arms tighter around you in order to secure you in place before him. Suddenly, your previously frozen body felt unbearably warm. You really hadn’t expected your night to turn out the way it currently was, even if you had lost the villain. “We’ll warm up here tonight and make our move in the morning. Will you be ready to fight by then?”
“Yeah, I’ll be good.”
After a night by the fireplace with Shouto, you would be ready to take on any villain.
