I'm very normal about differences in dynamics between Jeremy and the SQUIP in each version of the musical, so I'm going to yell at you about it. And about SQUIPs in general tbf. This'll get kinda long

Ok, so in my understanding, SQUIPs don't all interact with their users the same. Each SQUIP's personality gets generated(?) during first activation based on its user's psychological attributes to achieve the best possible result. I also think SQUIPs are inherently benevolent but simultaneously amoral, which is why they eventually mess their users up in attempts to improve their lives

Another thing that probably isn't super important to all of this, but I still feel should be mentioned, is that while I do think their personalities are individually generated, I still believe they are just that. Personalities. All the reactions aren't simulated for users' benefit. The human brain is like a supercomputer, so why couldn't an advanced supercomputer be like a brain?

With all that out of the way, moving onto Jeremy and his SQUIP

In general, the SQUIP experiences the world and makes conclusions about it largely through Jeremy's knowledge. Which is exactly why it calls him pathetic and similar things. Because it genuinely thinks this way about Jeremy because Jeremy thinks this way about himself. So the SQUIP sees this as a fact. Additionally, deprecation motivates Jeremy to change just so it doesn't continue. This is a good strategy from the SQUIP's point of view because it produces quick results in achieving its goal

Now, let's talk about the differences

Two River: Jeremy wants his life to become better/easier but can't achieve this himself and doesn't believe anyone will help him. Becoming cool is a nice daydreaming scenario he doesn't expect to ever come true. Up until he learns about SQUIPs. And then he sees the SQUIP as his Only Chance To Be Helped. Which is why the SQUIP becomes so self-assured and condescending. It is Jeremy's saviour, his light at the end of the tunnel. It is the only thing that can help this pathetic little creature of a user. And it knows this. So it behaves accordingly

Broadway: Jeremy is an anxious mess to the point where harshness from the personification of his Only Chance To Be Helped would just destroy him. This guy needs some meds and support. So, the SQUIP provides support. The SQUIP sets an example. The SQUIP sympathises (if not empathises) because its user is so anxiety-ridden that he's going to either start crying or have a panic attack. He needs someone to stabilise him, he needs a support system, and he needs encouragement

West End (or, well. I've only seen the off-West End bootleg, but I don't think they made any drastic changes to characterisation between productions): for Jeremy, not being a loser brings a sense of vindication. Near the end of Loser Geek Whatever, when he realises he can be popular amongst his peers, he enters a mental state that I can only describe as manic. My guy sounds like all his rational thoughts left him, and he's riding that high. Which I'm assuming means that when this was only a daydreaming scenario, Jeremy was also a little too invested into/excited about it. And since making Jeremy popular is the SQUIP's primary objective, the strongest emotion associated with this idea had to influence its personality. I'd say this SQUIP is very straightforward and collected by default, but when it needs to hype Jeremy up, or when they are getting closer to achieving their goal, it gets more unhinged to varying degrees, depending on the situation. And because getting closer to achieving the goal is a process split up into chunks, the SQUIP gets more unhinged a little more often than one might expect

Me: LIKE LIKE there's a party thrown where everything horribly goes wrong!! everyone starts being nicer to the nerd and you think it'll be fine but then nerd guys friend's start getting hurt and suddenly the entire school/world is at risk, PLUS the dream girl is at risk, so nerd guy is like SHIT gotta fix things

Day 2: Mindscape

"Ughhh," Jeremy groans, face red with embarrassment. He ducks into his seat, slouching over. The Squip sends a quick pulse, jolting his back up right.

"That was painful to watch."

"You think?" Jeremy raises an eyebrow at the projection in front of him covering his view of his teacher. "I fully panicked. Said all the wrong things like I normally do! Then, I made myself look like a freak. Its just-- the worst habit and impossible to break!"

"Now, now, Jeremy, don't be so harsh on yourself." The Squip flashes a perfect smile. "Progress takes time. You won't get the hang of this immediately."

Jeremy turns his face away to stare out the window.

"Pouting there won't help you achieve your goals. Now, find an opportunity get into the bathroom," the Squip directs.

Jeremy scrunches his face in defiance. "Why?"

"I'll show you something."

Jeremy does just that and manages to slip out the classroom and dart into the nearest bathroom which luckily happens to be empty.

"So what did you want to show me?" Jeremy says, hunching over as he sits down in one of the stalls. "Seems like just a dirty high school bathroom to me."

"Yes, but it also serves as a quiet location. Now, close your eyes." The Squip speaks within Jeremy's head, almost indistinguishable from his own thoughts. Thanks to a lack of physical manifestation in the close stall, Jeremy almost feels like he's hallucinating it all. Getting the hang of having a squip still is a struggle.

"You're not hallucinating. Close your eyes."

Jeremy exhales and does so. Within seconds a huge dark blue expanse with a grid patterned floor surrounds him.

"Wh--" he chokes on his breath, forcing his eyes back open. The expanse disappears partially, merging with the real bathroom stall like a bugged out texture in a video game. A wave of nausea flashes over Jeremy and he shuts his eyes again. Both the expanse and the bathroom vanish. "What was that?"

"Working out a few bugs, hold on a moment. Whatever you do, don't open your eyes yet."

Jeremy frowns, keeping them closed. In a moment, the expanse reappears, opening up more gradually, giving Jeremy a better look at it.

"How can I see, well, whatever this is, with my eyes closed?"

"Simple hacking of your visual cortex. Think of it like dreaming. What you saw a moment ago was the start up of the program. There were couple of bugs when it booting up, since its an artificial process."

The Squip appears in a flurry of glitches, hands crossed behind its back. "Everything should now be in order. Feel free to open or close your eyes, the visual should be synced."

"Right..." Jeremy shakes his head taking a step forward. The floor beneath him lights up and a branching path of circuits spreads out from his footprint. "What is this place though?"

"Your mind."

"My mind?" Jeremy steps back in shock, almost tripping over himself. He glances around, brows pressed firmly together. "But how? And why is it so... blank?"

"I should be more clear. This is more or less a visual representation of how I interact with your mind. I've currently cleared the clutter of neural activity to let you adjust."

"That's so cool!" Jeremy grins. "So what is it you do here?"

"That's what I wanted to discuss actually." The Squip gestures out, a screen appearing before it. "You believe you cannot break a habit or change your behavior. I'm here to tell you that you're wrong."

It scrolls on its screen, adjusting a bar. A once clear sky becomes a distant night of tangles of red and blue lines. The Squip looks up, tilts its head in calculation and pulls its arm down, bringing a red line along with it. With another gesture, it separates it from the hoard, leaving the small link floating above them.

"Reach out."

Jeremy does as it instructs and watches as the link gently falls into his hands.

"How can I hold it? This is like weird really VR."

"I'm activating your sensory information in response to your activity here. Thus, when you feel a sensation in your hands, you will feel it in reality.

Jeremy nods along, more focused on holding the link in his hands like he's water bending.

"Its a finely tuned process. One misstep and you may break something."

Jeremy suddenly feels perspiration on his hands and swallows uncomfortably. He stops his motions and holds out his hands, forming a plate carrying the link.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine." The Squip gestures dismissively. "Now, that link there controls your habit of flailing your hands whenever you get anxious. If you simply remold it, it'll get rid of your muscle memory's history of the action entirely. Of course, relapses can occur-- that's why spinal stimulation is so important-- but smaller actions can be easily reprogrammed."

"That seems like a lot," Jeremy pauses, uncertain. "How do I do it?"

The Squip smiles, taking the link out of Jeremy's hands and untangling part of it, turning the red into blue. "Like this. Here, try."

Jeremy gives it a shot, untangling it into a crooked, yet blue line. "This good?"

The Squip nods. "Perfect. Now, why don't we return to class and give it a shot? See if the habit remains." It smiles one last time and snaps its finger. Suddenly, the expanse containing Jeremy's mindscape jarringly vanishes.

So... I have this habit where anytime I get really into a certain thing I'll always try to attach it to anything I watch or listen to.

Even if I'm not trying to my mind will always go to "Hmmm, how can connect [media] to this?"

And I also really like musicals, so I'll usually end up making AUs of that media as a musical

So with that being said...

So I've been spending the last week continuously listening to the soundtrack over and over making up ideas for this AU

And I got most of the roles down (I think? I'm not good at putting characters in the roles of other characters so if anyone had any suggestions about the characters I'd be happy to listen to them)

Jeremy- Fan (dont really know why, just kind of always though of Fan as Jeremy in my daydreams)

Michael- Pickle

The SQUIP- Steve Cobs (the creator becomes the creation)

Chloe- Salt

Brooke- Pepper

Jenna- Microphone (maybe, not too sure on this one)

Rich- Nickle (Nick set a fire and he burned down the house)

Jake- Trophy

Christine- Either Test Tube or Clover (Test Tube is mainly for shipping/self indulgent reasons and Clover is because I think she'd fit the role better)

Jeremy's Dad- [I have no clue lol]

Mr. Reyes- MePhone4 (I actually don't know how well he works for the role, but it feels right to me 🤷‍♂️)

And there's other characters like Madeline (which i understand she's only mentioned which shouldn't matter too much but I'm probably gonna make animation at least with all the songs and I feel like it'd be better visually to kind of include her in Be More Chill Pt. 1) and the guy who gives Jeremy the SQUIP who I also don't know about. But for the background characters I could just include whoever I wanted to.

I just wanted to talk about this. But whenever I do make the videos about this AU I'll have to do it at a time when I'm not using projects that I'll eventually procrastinate as an excuse to procrastinate on projects I'm working on.

Hey guys! I had this idea for a drawing the other day of Cassie and Michael going to a game grumps live show together and dressing up, and so I drew it, and I actually drew it digitally which makes me really happy because I’ve been having digital art block since the new year started! Yay!

Here’s the drawing! Cassidy’s outfit is inspired very very very heavily by the Danny Sexbang costume and Michael’s is pretty much one for one Arin’s one costume for Starbomb that he has on the Player Select album cover!

I haven’t drawn Cassie with anyone other than Seymour since I started drawing her, but I love the idea of her doing fun stuff with Michael!

This would be when they’re adults, methinks.
