Had to decommission some posts I've reblogged previously.
At the time of this writing, it's been almost two days since the news re Watcher broke out. I've already said my thoughts in the video's comment section, doomscrolled to death, watched every commentator that decided to cover the news, and emphatized with fellow fans on Reddit.
I agree with the majority - it's simply poor business management, too soon. What I don't agree is the evolution of criticism to hate.
I liked Worth It. Though tbh, Andrew is my fave host. I watched it before for the escapism of it all, for the knowledge that somewhere out there were these places that maybe a multiverse version of me would be able to go and experience. I was initially thrilled when they announced Andrew and Adam joined Watcher, only to be dismayed with the end decision made by the trio (Steven, Ryan and Shane) to leave YouTube and have all of their content live behind a paywall.
I'm not sure if I should be relieved that I never posted the Watcher/Buzzfeed Ghoul Boys AU that I had been working on for MONTHS. I know in my heart of hearts that I will not have the strength to get back to it in the immediate present; even watching old Unsolved content hurt to do so. I unsubscribed from Watcher a day after the video was released. I unfollowed Watcher, Shane (and unfortunately, Adam as well, caught by association) on Instagram soon after (I never followed Ryan or Steven at all).
It's an all-around nasty feeling for me to mourn my work before it even got a chance to go out into the world. I know it is smarter to keep it hidden away, until it gets better.
If it gets better.
They said that it is goodbye, but they hope it isn't and we follow them one last time. But for me, I am no longer the target market. As an international viewer, I have, and will always get the short end of the stick.
So, you have my well wishes, Watcher. This is indeed goodbye to the boys I used to adore.
