I kinda understand “minors don’t interact” and similar things, but one thing I always laugh at is “don’t tag as [thing].” You know — the whole don’t tag posts with the word queer in them as q slur, don’t tag not-inherently-shippy art as ship, don’t tag character posts as kin, etc. First of all, what would you do if someone DOES tag it like that? Call the cops? Second of all, people are gonna tag things however they want, you’re gonna have to deal with that on a website like tumblr.

There’s a similar phenomenon on Twitter where people say “don’t quote retweet”/“don’t private quote retweet” (which is especially funny cuz everyone is gonna see that and go on their private accounts and quote retweet with nonsense to piss you off, lmao)

Like if you’re really SO FUCKING SCARED of your gay post being tagged as #q slur, your Death Note edit being tagged as #Lawlight, your fanart being tagged as #kin, you probably shouldn’t be on the internet. Do you have the right to not view queer as a slur, the right to not ship whatever, the right to not like fictionkin? Of course! But people also have the right to disagree with you and tag your post however the fuck they want. One time I saw someone tag one of my cosplays as [character] faceclaim, and I was a little bit weirded out, but overall it was harmless. I never once considered adding a banner saying not to tag my likeness as a faceclaim, because if I really want to prevent anyone from doing that, the solution will be for me to not show my face online.

Small tangent: When I was younger I used to have a private sideblog that was basically just a venting diary. No one had the password, and, because it was private, my URL wouldn’t show up in the notes if I reblogged something to that blog. Basically, no one knew the blog existed. And I remember sometimes I would see a cool post on my dash, or in tags, and it would be tagged as #dont reblog (this was before tumblr had the option to limit reblogs obviously). And if the post was cool (or edgy, because like I said… vent blog) and I was sad that I “couldn’t” reblog it, I’d reblog it to the side blog, where OP would never know 😭 Rebellious as hell wasn’t I?

That being said — and this might contradict everything I just wrote — I do think people that brag about not reading/not following DNIs are also a bit obnoxious. Not people who just make statements that they don’t read them, but people who make it known how much they hate their existence. It just seems kinda edgelord-y? Idk. Obviously it’s fine to not read them or like them but making it a huge statement is just like…ok? Congratulations? Should we throw you a party? Should we invite Elon Musk?

I have followers—and follow people—who have “Antis DNI” in their bio. I also have followers and follow people who have “Proshippers DNI” in their bio. No one will ever know what side I’m on 😜😜😜😜

The 4th Candy Hearts Challenge

A fun, stress-free Wolfstar mini-fest!

(If you remember how this goes , feel free to skip my introductory spiel and check for new rules!)

They’re sold by many companies and known by many names: Candy Hearts, Conversation Hearts, Sweethearts, and Love Hearts. Whatever the brand and whatever you call them, they’re the signature sweet of the season. Sure, you could buy your beloved a box of chocolates, but that’s an option any time of year! Good luck finding these bad boys in November!

Not that candy hearts are bad! Sure, they’re kinda chalky… and they taste stale no matter how fresh you bought them… but it’s not about the taste with candy hearts, it’s about the pastel, the experience, and above all else: the sayings! Who doesn’t remember going through a pack with friends, trying to find the kookiest message? Digging through a box to find one that was just the right level of romantic to give a certain special someone? (And maybe the heartbreak when you received one in turn where the message was just a big, pink smudge?)

Now, candy hearts have been around for a long time. And with a constant rotation of messages so we always got fun variety in a box, they’ve had a lot of sayings.

Through a great deal of internet sleuthing (and a little creativity on my part), I’ve collected over seven hundred of them.

Some are a little raunchy (TEASE ME), and some are downright rude (EW NO). They range from classic (BE MINE) to contemporary (SWIPE RIGHT) to were-at-one-point-contemporary (FAX ME). Some of them are, quite frankly so hyper specific it’s a wonder they made it into circulation at all (ME JULIE BEST MUM).

And they are all, even the weird ones, ripe with potential as fic prompts!

The way this mini-fest works is simple:

From 12:01am EST Feb 1 until 11:59pm EST March 1, drop me an ask containing these emojis: 🍬💕

If you don't want to send an ask from your main tumblr account (or don't have a tumblr account), you can do so anonymously. However, you must include the ao3 handle or tumblr sideblog from which you plan to complete the challenge.

I will shake my Great Big Box of Candy Hearts and pull out a unique candy heart for you and only you!

With your message in hand, create whatever that candy heart inspires and your own heart desires! Fanfic, art, graphics, playlists, head canons, shit posts, interpretive dances, cosplay, meta essays, it’s all great as long as its central focus is on Wolfstar, the relationship between Remus Lupin and Sirius Black!

You can either directly quote your candy heart message in your work or use it as a broader inspiration.

You are allowed to use the same candy heart as inspiration for multiple unrelated works and submit all of them to the fest.

You do not need a beta before submitting your work, but I do encourage you to get one. I want this to be as stress-free an event as it can possibly be, and in my personal experience, it reduces stress to have someone else look over your completed work for at least spelling and grammar so you don’t have to reread your own stuff and psych yourself out before posting. If you don’t have any fandom friends with whom you feel comfortable sharing your fanfiction, there are also online resources to find a friendly stranger (including, hopefully, our discord server — see rule 17). But if ultimately, you’d rather be your own editor, I certainly won’t reject your work!

Include the following caption at the beginning of the tumblr post or AO3 beginning notes: For @goodboylupin's Candy Hearts Challenge. My candy heart prompt was ____. I will not reblog your work or allow it in the collection until you have included the caption.

If posting on tumblr, please make sure the @-tag of your caption is working so I get a notification! It should show up on its own automatically as you type. Also tag the work with #RSCandyHearts, preferably within the first five tags.

If posting on AO3, post your work to the collection and tag it with goodboylupin's RS Candy Hearts Challenge (this tag will show up in the suggestions when you start typing it).

As long as the rules have been followed, I will reblog every work on Tumblr, and leave a kudos on every work on AO3. (If I haven't done so on your work and you see I've been active on this blog, then both the @-notification and #RSCandyHearts tag failed. Send me an ask with a link!)

If, after completing your first work, you want another helping of candy hearts, that’s more than welcome! Since I don’t want anyone to get a sugar crash, there is a two-day wait period between submitting a work and getting a second (or third or fourth or wherever you are) candy heart.

If you find you cannot come up with anything for your prompt, you can drop out and send a new ask to get a different candy heart. However, you need to give it an honest effort for at least one week before I give you a new one.

Works are expected by March 15, but this is a low-stakes, self-posting challenge! If you need more time, just message me or drop an ask. And if you want to drop out, that’s totally fine! I’ll even delete your first ask where you requested a candy heart if you prefer. I only need to know for the sake of my own record-keeping. Let’s all just be honest, considerate, and try to have a good time!

If you need a really long extension: Your candy heart is yours until January of next year, at which point, if I haven't heard back from you with an update or request for extension in the past few months, your prompt is going back in the Great Big Box of Candy Hearts so somebody else can have a go at it. The AO3 collection closes at the same time.

I work hard to make everyone a custom graphic and keep this fest running smoothly, therefore: Any creators with multiple instances of ghosting are suspended from getting another candy heart until next challenge.

I think it’s because violent taboos like murder and cannibalism are literally the most normalized in fiction, that when someone looks at it they fail to see that it’s still a taboo, and can be on the same level as other dark topics such as pedophilia because they both can literally get you to prison if you act on them irl!!!

I remember seeing people call an artist weird for drawing william afton as a silly guy, and i tell you dude, SO MANY PEOPLE came into that artists defense claiming “it’s not real! So it’s okay!!”

People can cosplay william all the time, but when it’s someone like valentino from hazbin hotel, they get harrassed (im not sure if you heard of the valentino cosplay drama, but that literally happened…) and even doing something such as calling val your favorite character can get you looked at weird…

I’ve decided not to use the proship label (because i don’t want to be associated with the negatives in the community…i don’t want another drama.) but im still chill with proshippers interacting with me, talking to me and other stuff because i still understand that i am not any better!! And honestly? I wish more proshippers interacted with my account because i can’t say what i think unless i speak in their spaces as an anon (which is what im doing here)

But yeah, no. I've watched folks thirst over and cosplay fucking Jeffrey Dahmer with ZERO repercussions, there's no goddamn reason why anybody should be attacked for liking Valentino as a character. If anything, folks need to realize that as far as Hazbin characters go, he's an incredibly well written villain. It takes a good villain to make you hate em.

Super fair to avoid the label. Avoid it like a plague unless you're comfortable with the risk of harassment, because unfortunately, that's a thing that happens. If you ever get sick of asks, though, I do like how you can comment from individual sideblogs. It's pretty nifty. I've got normalish sideblogs 1-11, this one and the sister blog, and then like. To the ghoulette embracing side of ghumblr,

On the topic of the ghoulettes and why this sideblog even exists.

This is probably the most personal thing I've written on this blog, so bear with me.

I identify as queer woman, and my whole life I've been somewhat of a tomboy with a splash of "I'm not like other girls!", but without the Androgynous Skinny Body Build it has led to me feeling a bit meh about my gender identity. As a teen cosplayed as a hobby with my friends, and we all crossplayed yet I never could make myself look like the male characters I wanted to be because of how my body is. I had noticeable thighs and an hourglass type of waist when all I wanted was to have long skinny legs and broad shoulders.

And then the ghoulettes happened.

Seeing a recording of Cirrus and Cumulus in their era IV clothing was a game changer.

Seeing how the clothes looked on the ghouls compared to how the same clothes looked on the feminine bodies of the ghoulettes, thighs proudly on display instead of being hidden under baggy clothing and trying to pass as something more masculine in a band that has been very male dominated before them. Wearing the ghoulette masks that underlined that they are unapologetically feminine.

I have my problems with era V clothes (especially with the way the cloak fasten in a super awkward way across the boobs that works if you are flat chested by looks a bit off when you have tits in the way) but I feel so seen when I see Cirrus and Cumulus unapologetically in jodhpurs on stage when I stayed away from chinos for so long.

I dug deeper into the fandom and found fanfiction that embraced Cirrus and Cumulus, especially Cumulus, unapologetically as women. People I related to being treated as something admirable, something attractive felt so new after all this time spent in fandoms where all the characters with hype behind them are some flavor of male. And it feels like a lot of the content is written by lesbians or bisexual women and it shows. The stories and even the smut are so lovingly written.

And I wanted to be a part of that world. I wanted to feel like I don't need to apologize for looking different in skinny jeans compared to the Androgynous Skinny Body. It's alright to have curves and if others can embrace it, so should I.

So yeah.

A day without ghoulettes is like a day without sunshine.

A day without me embracing the way I look and not just accepting but rather finding confidence in the cards I have been dealt in my life is like a day without sunshine now that I know the power of fearless, fierce ghoulettes on stage and how positively they are viewed in at least this part of the fandom.

How long have you been creating works in fandom spaces? How long have you been active in the SM fandom?

Oh gosh. I've been writing fanfic since 1999, so 23 years? And been active on and off in the SM fandom for that entire time.

What type(s) of creative works do you usually make? (fanfics, digital art, cosplay)

I usually write fanfic and make cosplay, although I'm trying to learn digital art!

What do you enjoy about creating for the SM fandom?

UsaMamo was my very first OTP. It's like the comfort food of fandoms

Are you strictly UsaMamo or do you create for other pairings as well?

In Sailor Moon, just UsaMamo! But outside SM I write a lot of different ones for Marvel - mostly Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers and Thor/Sif. There's also an entire expanded universe called Family Assembled that my best friend and I have been working on for almost a decade now, and it contains a TON of Marvel pairings along with some OC pairings that I'm really fond of.

I've also been in Star Wars for as long as I've been in Sailor Moon, and create stories for Luke Skywalker/Mara Jade and Anakin/Padme.

What inspires you to create works for Usagi and Mamoru?

As a person with ADHD, I really, really relate to Usagi and how she messes up a lot, but loves all her friends so much, and I love how much he believes in her. It can be hard, when you're the person who is always messing up, to find that kind of support.

Do you tend to work on multiple projects (WIPs) simultaneously or try to finish one at a time?

Oh I'm an ADHD disaster so I have like ten documents going at all times. I wrote like 30% of eight UsaMamo fics last year that are just sitting in my drive. There are some docs with only one or two sentences. I'm a menace.

Do you prefer large projects (chaptered fics, webtoons/zines, highly detailed art) or small projects (one-shots or simple art)?

I LIKE large projects, I am abysmal at finishing them. That's why I only have two current Sailor Moon fics - those are the ones I was able to finish and polish. I don't like posting things before they're finished, so one shots tend to make it out more often, but I have a ton of IDEAS for chaptered fics.

Are there any common themes, situations, tropes, or mediums in your work?

It's not terribly evident in my current published Sailor Moon works, but I tend to write situations where Usagi's family finds out she is Sailor Moon a whole lot? Those are the chaptered ones that never see the light of day because I can't figure out how they should go, but they always have her two worlds colliding. There's probably something in there my therapist would have a field day with.

I also just adore Chibiusa to pieces, so she makes it into a lot of my fics.

Is there anything you haven’t explored artistically and would like to try?

Hmmm, as I said earlier, I'm trying to learn how to do digital art. I'd really like to get passably decent at that, because I feel like some of the ~dramatic~ situations in my head would be better served through art than words.

Oh! Re: cosplay, I'd love to do an armor build of some kind. Most of my cosplays are gowns or dresses (I did Princess Serenity last year!) and I'd like to try my hand at maybe Commander Shepard from Mass Effect or Lady Sif from Thor: The Dark World.

With your message in hand, create whatever that candy heart inspires and your own heart desires! Fanfic, art, graphics, playlists, head canons, shit posts, interpretive dances, cosplay, meta essays, it’s all great as long as its central focus is on Wolfstar, the relationship between Remus Lupin and Sirius Black!

You can either directly quote your candy heart message in your work or use it as a broader inspiration.

You are allowed to use the same candy heart as inspiration for multiple unrelated works and submit all of them to the fest.

You do not need a beta before submitting your work, but I do encourage you to get one. I want this to be as stress-free an event as it can possibly be, and in my personal experience, it reduces stress to have someone else look over your completed work for at least spelling and grammar so you don’t have to reread your own stuff and psych yourself out before posting. If you don’t have any fandom friends with whom you feel comfortable sharing your fanfiction, there are also online resources to find a friendly stranger (including, hopefully, our discord server — see rule 17). But if ultimately, you’d rather be your own editor, I certainly won’t reject your work!

Include the following caption at the beginning of the tumblr post or AO3 beginning notes: For @goodboylupin's Candy Hearts Challenge. My candy heart prompt was ____.

If posting on tumblr, please make sure the @-tag of your caption is working so I get a notification! It should show up on its own automatically as you type. Also tag the work with #RSCandyHearts, preferably within the first five tags.

If posting on AO3, post your work to the collection and tag it with #RSCandyHearts (it will probably not be common enough to be a drop-down option, just type the whole thing out and hit enter).

I will reblog every work on Tumblr, and leave a kudos on every work on AO3. (If I haven't done so on your work and you see I've been active on this blog, then both the @-notification and #RSCandyHearts tag failed. Send me an ask with a link!)

If, after completing your first work, you want another helping of candy hearts, that’s more than welcome! Since I don’t want anyone to get a sugar crash, there is a two-day wait period between submitting a work and getting a second (or third or fourth or wherever you are) candy heart. You can send the ask earlier, but I will wait two days before answering it.

If you find you cannot come up with anything for your prompt, you can drop out and send a new ask to get a different candy heart. However, you need to give it an honest effort for at least one week before I give you a new one.

Works are expected by March 1, but this is a low-stakes, self-posting challenge! If you need more time, just message me or drop an ask. And if you want to drop out, that’s totally fine! I’ll even delete your first ask where you requested a candy heart if you prefer. I only need to know for the sake of my own record-keeping. Let’s all just be honest, considerate, and try to have a good time!

If you need a really long extension: Your candy heart is yours until January of next year, at which point, if I haven't heard back from you with an update or request for extension in the past few months, your prompt is going back in the Great Big Box of Candy Hearts so somebody else can have a go at it. The AO3 collection closes at the same time.

New rule: Over the past two challenges, there have been a small handful of people who requested a candy heart, did not create anything and did not speak to me any further to tell me they were dropping out or having trouble. I work hard to make everyone a custom graphic and keep this fest running smoothly, therefore: Any creators with multiple instances of ghosting are suspended from getting another candy heart until next challenge.

WHAT IS RACEFAKER TORD???

racefaker tord was a blogger active on kin tumblr in the mid-2010s (i want to say around 2015?) who, as their name suggests, both kinned tord from eddsworld and claimed to be mixed race (black, native, and white). they did this by claiming that their father was half black and their mother was 1/8th native (their words).

now, on an anonymous blogging platform - and i’m editorializing here - you’d think it would be like…pretty easy to racefake. NOT SAYING YOU SHOULD! it’s weird and racist and i just can’t see why you would want to, but like…you know…just don’t post selfies where it’s really obvious you’re white. or don’t interact with your real life, biological, blood-related brother’s blog. or don’t be mutuals with people you know irl. or don’t post a selfie with your mom. or…etc, etc. anyway, racefaker tord did all of these things, plus someone found their parents’ facebooks? and posted a selfie of their mom and dad, who were both just. white people

anyway, as for the selfies, racefaker tord and one point posted an edited selfie where they really terribly tried to make their skin look darker than it was:

another time, they also like…fully did blackface for a cosplay?

anyway…someone ended up calling their real life uncle and asking him if tord wasn’t white and the uncle denied it😭and so did their real life little brother, who was also a tumblr blogger.

there’s also some more stuff with them…they faked having did and made sideblogs for all their alters which would reblog from each other - sometimes less than two minutes apart - to talk, they would ship their kins and their brother’s kins together, and they were just…all around a weird fucking guy.

a couple years ago they apparently got really big in the magnus archives fandom until it was revealed that they were, in fact, racefaker tord.

they’re still blogging on here too😭not sure of the username but it’s pretty easy to find if you go to one of the racefaker tord callout blogs.
