After the whole Harry Potter/Rowling situation went to shit (It was an intense special interest of me for many many many years), I was very reluctant and even scared to join new fandoms, to like new things, to get invested in anything out of fear of learning all the things that are bad about it and which I didn't notice. Then one of my closest friends made me watch Shadow & Bone and now I'm deeper in this whole universe than he is. Probably even more obsessed than I was with the Harry Potter stuff. And as much as I love it, as much as I love that I've met people because of it, there's still this fear in the back of my mind. I went from being obsessed with the HP world to be obsessed with hating it, with rage whenever it's mentioned. I cut out plenty of people from my life who continued to interact with the world & buy stuff from it after relentlessly educating them about why the books and the author suck; I was pretty ruthless about it. I don't want to get to this point with another fandom. I can't choose hyperfixations/special interests and right now I get so much joy from the Grishaverse, it even helped me with how I see myself, with selfconfidence and working through some of my trauma and issues. But what if....but if it turns out to be bad too?

((Also for a short update on SHOS 1, still working on it don't worry!! The episode is currently sitting at around 16 minutes- I will definitely have it out this year, that much I can promise haha /silly))

How long did Watson receive his army pension? In “A Study in Scarlet” hey says the Government gave him nine months to improve health (and as we know his injuries prevented him from being recommissioned to army service) but later in “Soscombe Old Place” which takes place in the early Edwardian Era (I’m assuming) he tells Holmes he spends half his wound pension on the horse track.

His wound pension appears to be as ambiguous as the wound itself: we have one account of it in A Study in Scarlet, and other accounts elsewhere. It's also mentioned in The Valley of Fear (if Watson is not careful, he might have to pay his year's pension to Moriarty for slander). VALL is dated variously, but presumably occurs not too long before 1891, certainly well after that initial nine months Watson spoke of.

It was certainly the case that out-pensions could be awarded for life. Perhaps Watson was examined a second time, and awarded a more durable pension on that occasion? (<- No idea if this was ever done.) Like so many inconsistencies in canon, we may theorize about it as we please.
