Wilbur is lying face down on the floor. Again.

Tommy doesn’t know what’s up with him. He asked him once to which he chuckled with a smile so sad you could hardly call it a smile anymore, he said:

“Mom and Dad left my window open once, said my room smelled like something died in here. But then at night, the darkness came in and stole me away.”

The memory made Wilbur giggle again and that scared Tommy by far the most. His brother spoke of darkness and monsters as if they were his friends, his only friends, an unhelpful voice in the back of his mind supplied. Because if one does not leave their room how is anyone supposed to get close to them?

“But you are right here Will.” Tommy protested in vain, the words did not truly reach his brother. It felt like screaming on a sinking ship, because words can’t keep a heavy construction from sinking down into the deep darkness and they can’t keep the crew from drowning with it.

CONTEMPLATION / TEMPS DE PAUSE/ 4 minutes

Combien de fois ai-je observé mon père passant des heures à regarder un même paysage. Des heures, plutôt des jours. Je m'interrogeais souvent sur ce qu'il pouvait bien y voir de différent chaque fois, et comment l'ennui ne finissait pas par l'envahir. Il m'en a fallu du temps pour comprendre. Pour comprendre à quel point contempler est un art de l'esprit, une sorte de poésie vivante et terriblement enseignante. Que ce soit d'un paysage, d'un bout de paysage, d'un visage, d'un corps, parfois même d'un simple objet, peu importe, la poésie, je vais l'appeler ainsi, peut s'en approcher doucement, pour commencer, puis s'emparer de notre esprit tout entier. Le sujet alors "saisi", au contraire d'être emprisonné, peut se libérer, se transformer infiniment au gré de cette sorte d'alchimie entre ce qui nous est donné à voir et cette sorte de Samā‘, insensé au propre du terme. C'est le Samā‘ de notre esprit qui, exactement à la manière d'un derviche tourneur, va exalter la réalité et l'abstrait, l'apparent et l'invisible, le montré et le caché, la face et le dos de tout....puis les recomposer, uniques, dans un échange bavard et silencieux, au plus profond de nous-mêmes. Ce n'est pas là de la méditation. La méditation, elle, doit s'assurer de rester au plus près de notre esprit, en l'observant minutieusement, en tentant de saisir son fonctionnement, sans s'écarter du fil sur lequel nos pensées avancent tel un équilibriste. La contemplation nécessite aussi une sorte de lâcher prise mais pour confier cette fois "le spectacle" et les facultés de notre esprit à l'abandon, au voyage "hors-sol" et lui permettre ainsi de guider nos émotions en une folle spirale ascendante, "recomposante", sans nécessité d'en comprendre le fonctionnement, mais en s'attachant, décrispés, à recevoir cette poésie, brute, et cette réécriture du réel.

How many times have I watched my father spending hours looking at the same landscape. Not only hours, full days sometimes. I often wondered what he could see differently every time, and how boredom did not eventually invade him. It took me a long time to get it. To understand how contemplating is an art of the mind, a kind of living and terribly teaching poetry. Whether it is a landscape, a piece of landscape, a face, a body, sometimes even a simple object, whatever, poetry, I will call it that way, can approach it gently, to begin with, and then seize our whole mind. The subject then  "seized ", on the contrary of being imprisoned, can be liberated, transforming infinitely at the whim of this sort of alchemy between what is given to us to see and this kind of Samā ', foolish to the word. It is the Samā of our mind which, exactly in the manner of a whirling dervish, will exalt the reality and the abstract, the apparent and the unseen, the shown and the hidden, the face and the back of everything.... then recompose them, unique, in a talkative and silent exchange, Deep within ourselves. This is not meditation. Meditation must ensure that we stay close to our mind, observing it meticulously, trying to grasp its functioning, without deviating from the thread on which our thoughts advance like a balancing act. Contemplation also requires a kind of letting go but to entrust this time  "The show " and the faculties of our mind to abandonment, to travel  "off-ground" and thus allow it to guide our emotions into a crazy upward spiral,  " recomposing  ", without the need to understand its functioning, but by preparing, relaxed, to receive this poetry, rough, and this rewrite of the real.

This was our group to filmmaking, and then we tried to take pictures as a group, and then in the last shot, this was my cousin's childhood and now boyfriend of my close friend, and he asked permission to take pictures of both of us to tell my cousin that he was one of our group's actors in film.

OUTER SPACE (1999) is an experimental 10-minute short by Peter Tscherkassky. Tscherkassky used footage from the 1980 horror film THE ENTITY, starring Barbara Hershey, to create an abstract, surreal nightmare. Some may hate it. Father Gore personally loved it! Strange, unsettling, & atmospheric. The way Tscherkassky all but obliterates the film frame is a fascinating deconstruction of film, & a compelling exercise in editing+sound. Check it out!
