The Blue
__________
Shomotsu was a small kojin trader who frequented Sui-No-Sato, trading journals and books from the outside world, and where Ridel got most of his books from. She was very fond of the boy, and helped him escape Sui-No-Sato when he asked for her aid around 5 years prior. She blamed herself when it was assumed that he didn't make it to the surface...

Nampō Roku, Book 5:  Nambō Sōkei’s Conclusion to Book Five.
Tumblr media
❖ [Nambō Sōkei's Letter to Rikyū -- apparently upon receiving the collection of sketches back from him.]
With respect to the teachings on the daisu, [I] am overjoyed that [you] have deigned to transmit these fifty or so pages [to me], together with the sixteen others that [illustrate] the arrangements for the kyū-dai and naka-ita.  Verily, when handing down these teachings, [you have included] frequent rubrications and other things of that sort while preparing this scroll, which [I discovered while] inspecting it.  If [I] understand the point of all of this, [it is that you] have made [the appropriate] corrections.
    I will close here.
Eleventh Month, Fifth Day.                                                                                                                                                  Nambō Sōkei
                        to Hōsen shukō [抛筌主公].
==============================================
❖ [Rikyū's Reply to Nambō Sōkei -- which he seems to have written on the same piece of paper, immediately following the text of Sōkei’s missive.]
                        [With reference to] the preceding:
Having glanced through this scroll, so to speak:  over the course of many years none of [the arrangements] have been lost.  And [since you] have diligently gathered them together, as a gesture of obedience [to a fellow traveler] on the Way [I passed my comments along to you].  There is naturally no difference in the ceremony [between one arrangement and another].
Nevertheless, if you should look elsewhere, you will find that the transmitted teachings have become diluted.  You should keep such opinions out of your mind.  Otherwise, wiping your head, might you not become confused by these changes?  Because, for your training, it is better to dispense with books.
    Having said that much....
          Eleventh Month, Twenty-eighth Day.                                                                                                                                        Sōeki
                       Nambō

◎ The two letters translated here are found at the end of some versions of Book Five of the Nampō Roku.  Because of the highly anomalous language*, both are almost certainly spurious.

                      南坊]
These letters would seem to have been contrived to suggest that all of the kaki-ire [書入] were written by Rikyū.  Since many of them are known to have been added by Tachibana Jitsuzan and the Enkaku-ji scholars, this fact would seem to argue against accepting these two letters as authentic. ___________ *They are written in what people of the Edo period (and into the early modern era) considered “academic Chinese.”
This sort of language, and its idiom, do not match either Nambō Sōkei's numerous comments that are preserved throughout the Nampō Roku, nor the language used in Rikyū's own densho (almost all of which contain epistolary and/or dedicatory passages).
Furthermore, in Nambō Sōkei's letter, Rikyū is addressed as Hōsen shukō [抛筌主公], Hōsen refers to Rikyū's purported sai-gō [齋號] Hosen-sai [抛筌齋] (shukō means “lord” or “master”).  However, the use of this name seems to begin with Urasenke’s 11th generation iemoto Gengen-sai Sōshitsu [玄々齋宗室; 1810 ~ 1877] (and it is in his copy of the Nampō Roku that the letters that are translated in this post apparently were found).  In none of the surviving material that passed between Rikyū and Nambō Sōkei (such as the Nambō-ate no densho [南坊宛の傳書]) is this name ever used; neither is it found in any of Rikyū's other surviving writings or correspondence.
Tanaka Senshō also states that the letters are associated with the “Sen family version” of the Nampō Roku (which means the copy of the text owned by Gengen-sai); while, according to him, they are missing from the other versions of the text that he has inspected.  He, furthermore, adds that the presence of these letters may be taken as verification of the Sen family’s version’s authenticity.  (In Tanaka's writings, “Sen family” invariably means Urasenke, since it was a teacher affiliated with Urasenke who brought Tanaka into the practice of chanoyu; and, later, he was initiated into the ōhi [奥秘], or most secret teachings, by Yūmyō-sai Genshitsu [又玅齋玄室; 1852 ~ 1917], the 12th generation iemoto and Gengen-sai's son-in-law.)  Tanaka also verifies that Urasenke’s daisu-temae (which he learned from Yūmyō-sai) are consistent with what is found in Book Five of the Nampō Roku.
†Kiyu [几右] means a desk.  Tanaka's version of the text has o-migi [御右], which would mean “[in reference to] the preceding [material].”  Kiyu, then, is most likely a miscopying.

Sakura Taisen Song Box
Released: April 15, 2009 (digital only)
Available at iTunes
This is like a mashup of 2003′s “Complete Song Box” and 2006′s “Zenkyokushuu,” only with a lot less content: it’s got 120 songs, while the aforementioned collections had 139 and 122, respectively. For the price, though, it’s still a good deal for people who just want a lot of Sakura Taisen songs, not necessarily all of them.
Songs with a “—” instead of a number are songs that were part of the physical collections but that are not included in the digital version

あなたはPlatonを知っていますか?
彼は、
自分の書物で人間の徳が何なのか知るために、
より大きい国家を調べています。
僕も世界を知るために自分の中身を知ります。世界と自分を重ねます。
自分と世界を重ねます。
それは、非常に似ています。
世界のすべては一で、

世界の中の自己も他者も海も空も陽も一で。

Do you know Plato?
He looked into a larger nation to find out what human virtues are in us in his books.
I also know what myself is to know the world.
I overlap the world with myself.
I overlap myself with the world.
It's very similar.
Everything in the world is the one,
All of myself is the one.
The self, the others, the sea, the sky, and the sun in the world are the one.

Barabara is a terrible word and I'm fairly certain it's also a pun. It's a sound effect word that means scattered, one bara is roses (also sometimes manly men) and Barubara/Barbara is probably also based on this pun. Unrelated, Seazer did Baramon薔薇門/Rose Gate once withTenjo Sajiki which had the Bara no Kakumei薔薇の革命, which was Rose Revolution, but it was about gay dudes. And it's suki yoooooo~ Admittedly, when Akio says 薔薇の門 bara no mon/Rose Gate in the last episode, it's all I can think about. That isn't relevant here, but I felt everyone needed to know. I like to think barabara is also rose petals because of course I do.
The 'aruaru' in 'achikochi barabara aruaru barbara' is translated as "I am I am" the first lines that say barabara achikochi have 散在点在 and the two repeated kanji are also 'aru' sometimes which is basically 'exist' and while aruaru already is a phrase, it means so many things and we had a similar line with most the sentence, so I used that.
I wanted the last lines to say ‘my own me is mine’, but it really kinda just trails off :/
I maybe also admitted to someone I never actually learnt English in an actual educational or professional setting earlier today.

My real me is scattered
Song no. 12 of Seazer’s new Utena album, most likely the reason for that Barbara in the title. I love this song. And Seazer is part of the reason why I’m studying Japanese, so I might as well give it a try.
I just want to clarfy that my Japanese level is pretty basic and not enough to try to translate Seazer songs of all things, I did asked for help in some parts, still don’t take any of this at face value and feel free to input:

¹ バラバラ (barabara) is not a verb, but an onomatopeia for something scattering. Is common for Japanese people to use onomatopeias in sentences.
² 幻獣辞典 (genjuujiten) refers to El Libro de los Seres Imaginarios, or Book of Imaginary Beings in English, a book by Argentinian Jorge Luis Borges, basically a dictionary of 120 fantastical beings found in myth, legends, folklore and literature.
³  目線 (mesen) usually means gaze or someone’s point of view, but my teacher told me that here it could probably be talking about “what someone has their view upon” like a goal. Hard to put a definitive meaning since the lyrics talk about both, being what is dictated by something else and fulfilling someone’s dreams
⁴ I wanted to see if there was a particular reason why  まぼろし (maboroshi/illusion) was writen in hiragana instead on kanji, turns out  まぼろし is the Japanese title for  Sous le sable or Under the sand, a French film by  François Ozon. The film is about awoman whose husband goes missing while swimming in the sea and she goes into denial and acts like he is still living with her. The decomposed is later found, but she doesn’t acept that is her husband. I can’t assure you this is revelant, but it could be!
