I have mixed feelings about Shokuryou Jinrui (Starving Anonymous), I mostly liked it but there's some stuff with the aliens that is dull and human centric to me.

Like, yes i get the metaphor but eh.

I will say I'm never gonna forget the universes' most depraved bisexual mad scientist that is so terrible it circles back around to being kinda cool and hilarious. Dude's still like a rapist and I'm pretty sure after what he did to his girlfriend their relationship probably counted as beastiality. But like damn, if he wasn't kind of charming and his relationship with the dude who's a human meat factory is kinda cute and sweet. Whether or not the human meat factory dude is even an adult ... I don't want to think about it since it's all ready fucked up enough in this bitch.

I'm also surprised that two characters who were disabled/became disabled survived the whole thing because the MC was looking out for these guys. Like, that shit doesn't normally happen in an exploitative splatter horror. I was pleasantly surprised.

I will say don't read it if you'd be bothered by a factory farming allegory applied to humans with all the gore and sexual violence that that would entail. Plus there's some fatphobia, the most gods awful bisexual representation I've seen to date, incest rape, and misogyny. And plenty of body horror.

Starving Anonymous can only be described as "repulsive made beautiful". The first thing to draw your attention is the top-notch art with great character designs. The touch is realistic and the gross stuff comes off as sickening as it can get - just like it should.The story is pretty standard survival horror which brings close the ugliness of human nature but there are also some more imaginative twists. If you have read the authors' previous work Apocalypse no Toride the pattern seems familiar: an isolated place, a naive main character who gets thrown into a mysterious situation, a diverse cast of more or less messed up characters, a narrative leaning heavily on flashbacks and of course, the awesome monsters. The manga is entertaining. It's grotesque and certainly what you would want from a body horror manga. I can't say I saw a huge amount that really shocked me though. -- *Manga : Shokuryou Jinrui (Starving Anonymous) *Synopsis : It's a day like any other, and high school students Ie and Kazu are on the bus home from school when, suddenly, it floods with a mysterious gas. The pair pass out and wake up to find themselves aboard a truck packed full of human bodies. They're surrounded by rows of frozen corpses... and a staff of living human beings sawing them into pieces.
