men being treated in barbieland the way women are being treated in real world (it doesn't come off as a bad thing abt women because at its core, the barbieland runs on the ideas of the real world. you can understand that when you talk about ken's weird monologue.)

things that could have been better:

the pacing of the movie // okay, i think they did like 80% of what they could do in a mattel movie and seeing the smaller and minor details, maybe it isn't that badly paced.

smoother audio and visual transitions despite the entire thing being made to be fake

ending montage of all those women should have been done better

barbie montage should have been better, more focused on everyone but maybe it's a good thing it isn't because it would have contributed to consumerism

the entire movie IS a commercial for barbie but i don't think that should let people dismiss the resonance people feel with it

mattel you better fucking release ordinary barbie (despite how much i am beginning to hate consumerism)

the ken monologue was terrible sorry. felt so cringey and cliche because it should be handled better and sent across a message the way it did for barbie.

gloria's character should have had more depth

entire movie needed more depth. if. it wasn't for the superficial dialoguing no one would connect w barbie except in the scenes she cries and feels she isn't enough

there were so many parts that felt like the movie was stuck

the mattel team - completely. useless.

the both good and bad is that the movie is a /quasi self critique/ but it still heavily promotes consumerism. despite that, i would rather people watch a movie that discusses feminism and how exhausting it is to be a woman rather than any other patriarchal garbage if all art is going to be commercialistic anyway.

just watched the pilot. this is skjdfhdkhg. first of all, i am pleased that stephanie beatriz picks such amazing projects. second of all. the animation?????? it is scratching my brain in all the right ways OH my GOD. i fucking love 2d animation & i will eat this shit up anyday over the ugly gray shit that hollywood spouts.

vaggie's full name is...vagina? i have been saying it vaj-ie in my head (ykwim) & that is probably her name? that's gotta be the funniest gag (if it's true)

the "angel" being a porn star is such a direct gag too my god & never have i ever been aroused by a 2d crack spider so much. huh. maybe i am a spidercreature too.

thoughts so far: - pacing so far is a little bit off because i feel like we've gotten in 5 whole episodes and the story really has not moved very much except like a very small bit of character lore? usually i tend to know more about them by atleast ep 3 but however if they're making this a big part series i would understand - it is entertaining for sure but it would be REALLY worthwhile if they had the sex jokes be SLIGHTLY clever BUT. but. the way they did angel was very very refreshing because i am sick of the "slut" being a shitty person all the time in every other trope so i will give them that. - djkgfdhgkdjhgdjk i know that charlie is the main character but i don't really like her THAT much. like i understand she cares a lot about this thing & that she isn't really being allowed to do it her way BUT she's literally. the child of the devil himself, she's the princess of hell. she could be doing a lot more w her power. she needs to harness that. what is going on w that. i mean, why is she particularly the protagonist? she isn't doing it a lot for me. sfhkdgjdfg.
