thinking about tom when he first started dating shiv…

like he’s at his first big roy family gathering and sees baby. he’s relieved to see basically another plus one - someone on his level (he thinks) and tries to talk to her

roman and kendall see this from across the room and have to put a stop to tom feeling at all comfortable. they have been subtly hazing him since he got to logan’s apartment as they have with all of shiv’s boyfriends but now the hazing clearly needs to escalate. they can’t let tom think he’s on the same level as baby just because she’s too nice to tell him to fuck off

"So, I'm assuming this isn't your first time with the Roy fam?"

Baby blinks. Then blinks. Then stares.

"Sorry. Should've just the ily at the end of it. But I'm Tom, if you didn't know. I think we've met already. Shiv's mentioned you quite a bit."

"This is my first time meeting you, Tom. Shiv's mentioned you, though. Once."

Tom's eyes go bright, unblinking before he actually smiles. He nods once. "Good things from my lady, I hope."

"Oh. She's already your lady? I didn't know it was that serious. When I was talking to her about her acting different a month ago, thinking there's some guy keeping her busy, you were some guy from her words - her mouth."

Baby takes a sip of her glass. The light in Tom's eyes go out, but he keeps his smile.

"It was just, it's just a name. A fun thing. I've been uh...spitballing names, if you wanna say. But I knew who you were out of everyone here because Shiv made it a point to state you're the only one 'Not part of her fucked, loving family but you basically are'. Fun. You'll have to tell me what to do."

His quoting fingers are tense and obvious. Baby nods. She doesn't laugh.

"Again, nice to meet you, To-"

Roman's there, Baby's bell that saves her. He bites down on her neck.

Tom blinks, his smile takes long moment to actually fuck off.

"Rome. Rome, stop - cut it out, chomping in public is disrespectful of he-"

"Oh. Shut the fuck up. Hi, Tommy!"

He snakes his arms around Baby's waist, taking to rest his chin on her shoulder. Kendall knows it's his and his brother's time to...check out Shiv's new guy.

"Hi, Tom."

"What is going on here?" Roman puts is high punch in every word, squeezing Baby's waist. She sighs. "I don't know you that well, but I feel like that gives me more reason to think you're just using my sister to traffic hottie professies in stockings and pantsuits."

"...What?"

"Or you're just social climbing on a Tuesday?" Kendall shakes his head, unblinking with a hand up before Tom can say anything. "Jokes, jokes. It'll be easier for you if we turn them all out now."

Roman's fingers dabbles and drag on Baby's stomach. Like a normal person, Tom looks down in the way the movement catches his eyes.

"Oh my god, Ken. I think Shivy brought home a perv."

"You guys."

Ken shrugs, sniffs quietly. "I'm not doing anything. I like you, Tom."

"...Thank you."

Roman rolls his eyes and mwahs her cheek. "I guess you'll fit right in, perv. But no, it's worse. You actually think you're an equal. Oh my God-ow!"

Baby's managed to pinch his shoulders. "I'm going to the bathroom."

She smiles before she leaves. "Nice to meet you, Tom."

Tom can only look at his drink at that point. He blinks fast.

"You already said that."

Roman's thin, smirking smile drops.

"Excuse you?"

What a way to be welcomed into the family.
