#shit i can't figure out how to fit into 'proper' lore

For the fic writer asks:
4. Obviously you did research for BitB. I'd love you to ramble about it if you like I'm sure you've got STORIES
5. Did you outline it?
7. How'd you decide it would be Hob's pov?
25-27 I'd love to know a/some favorite lines, details, and any lore you might want to share
omg TJ what wonderful questions! thank you!! this is going to get LONG!
4: Rambling about research!
do you wanna see a screen shot of my bookmarks under my "band au" folder?
man, and that's only what could fit on the screen.
there is... SO MUCH i chose to ignore for this fic. ideas that i had to drop, lines or extra details about the other band members equipment. more logistics, what Lucienne actually does, what Mervyn has to put up with as the new touring stage manager... i realized very early on that i couldn't possibly cram all this (super cool and eye opening) information into the fic and still keep reader's interest and, most importantly, to not stray away from the fact that this is a dreamling fic. whenever i felt myself getting carried away with a side character or job or even social media numbers, gossip, outside POVs, i had to reign myself in and get back on track. there will be time for exploring everything i missed in side stories after BitB is finished. i just hope i still have the energy to write it all.
once, i was so deep into research that after publishing chapter 2, i went into work and when my chef asked what "GA" meant on my prep list, i answered with full confidence, "general admission."
(it means "get ahead.")
the worst part of this entire writing process is im still learning new shit. i havent rewatched or read a lot of what i've saved because, to be very honest, i was feeling a little burnt out. it's why we're kinda full steam dreamling now. it's why ive been glossing over a lot of technical stuff and being vague about conversations amongst the crew/not including it at all. i don't prefer ignoring my research, but at the end of the day i want to still enjoy writing this fic and finish it. even if i can't be as descriptive and detailed and nuanced as i used to be.
5: Did you outline the fic?
(also asked by @hardly-an-escape!)
i wouldn't call what i have a proper "outline," it's more like a 20k word document filled to the brim with notes that i skim at least a dozen times while i'm writing a new chapter (being in my brain is literally hell). i live multichapter life very dangerously. i copy and paste lines or sections (always scattered, never together! augh!) that are meant to go together and plop them in a new document titled "band au ch.#" and then i structure the chapter around what i want to happen.
but to answer this question in the plainest of terms: yeah. i know exactly what's going to happen up until the very end. even if its all in my head and the only concrete shit that's written down are beats/plot points. i'll figure out the rest later!
7: How'd you decide it would be Hob's POV?
i actually never even considered writing it from Dream's POV. this was my first fic in the fandom (which is so nuts to think about lol) and writing in Dream's POV sounded so scary lol. i also just thought Hob's would be easier because i have worked a few backstage shows, back in my college years. i figured eh, i can make this work. and i loved exploring how weird and mysterious musicians can be, from a normie's POV. making Hob a fan first and having him worry about developing a parasocial relationship... it was fun to explore.
25: Share your favorite line
oh god, i have so many haha.
“What are you thinking about?” starting in ch.2 and onward lmao
“It’s–” Dream laughs quietly, bitterly. “I don’t like change.” He says each word with emphasis, eyes trailing down to fixate somewhere past Hob. “And I still hold onto the things I can control, like my instruments–” his eyes swing up to regard Hob apologetically. “Or my clothes or my–” he brings a hand up and wiggles his fingers around his head. “My hair.” ch.4
"His majesty is pleased." ch.5
“You are obsessive,” he states, slow and cool and with a quiet smile cracking through his composure. “Just like me.” ch.7
“You look good.” Hob has to lean in to say so, unwilling to raise his voice amongst the roar of the fans. ch.11
“Del looks like porcelain, but she’s actually made of steel.” Desire swirls the contents of their glass before pushing their shoulders back with a deep breath. “She's tougher than all of us.” ch.11
“Everything. I want…” his fingers tighten in Hob’s hair, pulling him closer, speaking against his lips. “…Everything.” ch.14
26: Share your favorite detail
how intentionally coy Dream behaves. i love keeping him a mystery and deciding when and how much to allow his intentions to peek through has been so fun lol.
Despair is in fact covered in tattoos and piercings! i say this because i feel like sometimes i forget lmao. (but also her and Hob don't interact much so. my bad haha).
Delirium's constant explosion of color in the way she dresses <3
Hob's dedication to his job, Dream, and the people he cares about the most. i don't care if people think i'm making him too soft and good, im gonna project on that man and make him a sweet, sweet simp lmao
and ah, this doesn't matter anymore, and i kinda regret doing it but. i originally had Dream's favorite bass all black but the pickguard was white. so it actually looked like Jessamy. not gonna lie when @designtheendless drew it all black i decided i liked it better that way. and truly i do. that's when i went back to ch.1 and changed it haha. to actually see the guitar with Dream, all done up sparkling black and purple flecks... gosh it's just so him. but then i got up to the reveal that the guitar's name was Jessamy and i was like, "oh, right." lmao. no one seems to care so i'll leave it be.
27: Share a piece of lore you made up for the story
i have a lot lmao. and this post is already so long... im hoping i can get to some if not all of it in side fics in the future. but for now, here's some that's more like headcanons but:
Dream hates flying. he can full on go into panic attacks on the plane if he allows himself to get into his own head.
this was mentioned briefly in ch.4, while Dream was discussing the formation of the band, but Despair was in another band before joining Endless. she is the only character in the fic who gets to keep her English roots (lol sorry) and is the oldest in the band (30).
all of the band members ages: Dream, Desire, and Death are all 28 and Delirium is 22.
Dream can experience subdrop after going too hard during a performance.
Dream paints his own nails, it's very therapeutic.
as an exercise, i explored my own headcanons for Dream in this verse in a word doc, and one thing i will share from it that you might find interesting: If I were to ever give Dream a theological values, I would describe him as a satanist. He is a physical and pragmatic person, nonconforming, and although he is introverted, he enjoys being a part of a community (he loves his band).
also found this in my notes: How Desire and Dream got along was Death making them fight it out. Hob raises an eyebrow “like in a brawl?” He couldn't imagine Desire throwing hands. “No, in a pillow fight that escalated in hair pulling and verbal taunts.”
fic writer asks
#yooooo#this took me a long time to answer lol#i gotta go to bed but#THANK YOU SO MUCH TJ!!#dreamling#(why not. there's a lot here let put it out into the main tag!)#fic: bolt in the blue#im so satisfied ahhh thanks again#:)

This is it. We've reached Serai's home at last.
Dweller of Dread isn't even bothering to hide.
Of course, that makes sense. Why would it? The sun and moon are gone. It has nothing to fear.
I can't even muster the energy to be giddy about seeing your home. This place is a tragedy.
The people here are not okay. Not just depressed but... haunted.
Which is to be expected; They're being fed on by a Dweller and also their world is super destroyed. It's like if Wraith Island was worse.
This is your home? It looks unlivable. Is everything in your world made of steel?
A workbench and a cot is not proper furnishings, Serai. I would say we need to get you a bed but we already did, on the Vespertine.
Worlds plural? Serai, did you visit other worlds before coming to ours?
Come to think of it, how did you even get to ours? The Sky Giants seemed to imply that the Vespertine is a necessary key for traveling the Sea of Stars and no other vessel can do it.
That will be Erlina. Who I will continue calling Erlina because that is five syllables and an apostrophe, and I refuse to dignify Fleshy by dedicating that many mouth noises to one of his.
Oh no, she's going to die. That's non-negotiable. We aren't here to play hide and seek.
...well, we are but just until we can figure out what to do about the sun and moon. That's step 1.
And that's steps 1 and 2. We get the eclipse back up and functional, then we start redecorating what's left of this world with blood.
Oh hey, Yoyo had a prophecy for Resh'an about that. I suppose that needs to become step 1, and all of the other steps get moved down a peg.
I think I saw what you're talking about. I thought it was some sort of sky elevator but it's probably the speedball network.
So we find this person, then bring the network online. Then we can do speedballs to get as high as we need. It's a good plan.
Is that another name for the Dweller of Dread? Or is it something else? It's an eerie name either way. 8/10 on the Fuck That Noise scale.
Okay but I'm expecting some Story Time to come out of that. The lore goes down so much easier when you tell it to me.
What the fuck is this? Is it a passcode of some kind? Am I supposed to fit something into it or--
Oh, wait. I think it's a marker. Yeah, sure, I'll trust strange markers in the desert of ambiguous intent. Best case scenario, it's an ancient signpost to help us find our person. Worst case scenario, we walk right into the middle of the Queen That Was's base and catch her with her pants down.
Either way, anything important enough to leave signposts to is something worth breaking into.
Well, we've found something, to be sure. Remains to be seen if it's good or punchable.
The air's pink. Is the air supposed to be pink? I'm pretty sure air is never supposed to be pink, so I'm leaning towards punchable.
Yeah, I can tell by the chunks of Dweller flesh overgrowing the facility. Weapons ready, team.
That's grotesque. I would say we should kick the door in and break everything but we don't have the Eclipse.
So. What's our play here? B&E for hostage retrieval? I assume the person we came to find is probably going to be in the building, right?
Never mind, I'll stop pretending I know fuck about all when it comes to Fleshmancer shit.
What in the Muppet Hell is happening here? Is that Oscar the Grouch in the back corner!? I don't know what this is but I know that I hate it.
This isn't, like, a Nier situation where the people of Repine are soulless bodies and the spirits here are their bodiless souls, is it?
Well, at least we know what the pink glowy thing in the desert is. It's not the Dweller; In fact, based on drone footage, I'm now pretty sure the Dweller is in the ocean and guarding the moon. But it's still awful. Pretty sure everything in this world is.

Now that you've given me permission to ask questions, I shall do so unrelentingly until I can't think of anything else. So, two things:
First off, you've mentioned Sygbarnes condition a few times, but how 'there' is she? Would you say that Sygbarne has High Matenince Autism? I personally have Low Matenince Autism (I've actually hyperfixated on Looming Gaia a little lol) and Sygbarne reminds me alot of how autistic individuals are treated irl, so I was wondering if she's a metaphor (is that the right word?) for that.
Second of all, I read that youre okay with fanart and stuff, but would you be all right with me needle felting a Poffle? It's basically like making a sculpture out of wool.
Go for it! I'm always hyped to answer LG questions, they only make the lore deeper!
Sygbarne's exact condition is never named, and honestly I imagine she doesn't even have a proper diagnosis, considering the doctors she's seen are all woo-warriors who pretend they can "cure" whatever it is with crystals and herbs and shit. I'm not autistic myself so I'm not sure if I can accurately say that's what she has, but I will say a few things for certain about her condition:
Her ability to speak and reason is about on par with a toddler. As far as awareness goes, she's only as aware of her situation as a 3-year-old would be. She lacks significant understanding of the world, but is also intelligent enough to know that something is wrong with the way people treat her, even if she can't figure out exactly what that is. She is not only treated like a lab rat by her doctors, but also incredibly sheltered. Her parents are the only source of affection she gets, and their visits are pretty infrequent. I imagine it must frustrate her a lot, and her constant wailing is probably her expressing that frustration.
She cannot be cured because she doesn't have a disease, this is just how she was born. Gultopp and Juvella sought the world's top doctors at first, but of course they all told them that Sygbarne's condition will not change and they just have to accept her as she is. Gultopp and Juvella did not like that answer and refused to accept it, so they instead turned to sketchy quacks who promised they could improve her condition.
These doctors are nothing more than scam artists preying on the royal family's desperation. Their treatments range from benign and pointless to downright harmful. They string the royal family along with lines like "Oh, it takes many treatments to start working" or "Hmm, she's a stubborn case! Looks like she needs another year of this therapy before we see improvement..."
And Gultopp and Juvella just go along with it, because they feel they have no other choice. If only they would get over themselves and their unrealistic expectations, they could give Sygbarne the happier, healthier life she deserves.
I don't think Sygbarne's situation is hopeless though. Her sister Blomi is very curious about the wailing she hears in the castle, and one day I think she'll crack this mystery and somehow help her sister.
(Because lord knows Hestal ain't gonna be the one to do it...Gultopp and Juvella express disappointment in Sygbarne for being a "useless" child, while completely ignoring how utterly useless their neurotypical, able-bodied son is in every way lmao...he's the one they should be ashamed of, not Sygbarne.)
I never had a specific condition in mind for Sygbarne because it was never really the point of her story, but maybe a real diagnosis would flesh out the lore and help the character feel more real. If you feel that high-maintenance autism is a good fit for her, then that is what her condition will be. I would like input from actual autistic people before I commit to this idea, just to make sure I get the details correct and don't upset anyone, so any feedback is very helpful and appreciated! All suggestions can be sent to the ask box.
As for the second question, oh my god I would FLIP if you made a needle felted poffle! That sounds so freakin cute, please go for it! Please share it when you're done, I would absolutely love to see it!!

Feldspar: Behind the Scenes
previous | next (nsfw)
--
Sornieth’s Newest Magical Malady
Research continues into Opal and its practical applications, both medical and non. The current task force consists of Crucis, Betelgeuse, Aberdeen, and Xerxes. Xerxes is a recent addition, who chose to join despite his decidedly negative view of the project. Dreamweaver oversees.
The first Opal Scrolls are set to be tested following the close of Flameforger’s. Trustworthy volunteers from all across Sornieth have been handpicked by Dreamweaver to undergo what they hope will be the harmless and entirely reversible transformation.
Meanwhile, newcomers to the territory bearing Opal are screened especially harshly, with Mergo present as a precaution. Given Opal’s high-risk nature, it is considered an inherent threat, as are dragons afflicted with it.
The Child With No Element
Jorah’s explosive arrival in the clan has caused an uproar among its citizens. While Dreamweaver has assured their people that the boy is harmless, some continue to doubt.
“They’ve promised us such things before,” said one resident of the village, who wishes to remain anonymous. “Look at what happened with Seaglass, and Xerxes, and Atsushi, and even Dreamweaver themself--and let’s not forget that whole mess with Aphaster. After all that’s gone on these past several eons, how can we trust their word?”
Dreamweaver’s response when informed of the unease in their ranks was barbed and concise. “Do they think the clan’s magical theorists have been playing house all this time? It isn’t about trusting my word. It’s about trusting the facts.”
Jorah is currently in the custody of resident darling, Shard Junior. When asked to comment on the situation, Junior had this to say: “I can’t tell people not to be worried, because magic is a deeply worrying thing--but I can say, with confidence, that Jorah’s condition is not currently a threat to the clan, and it most likely never will be, once he’s undergone treatment. I hope they can all come to accept and love him as I have.”
The exact nature of Jorah’s “condition” remains a mystery.
The Heir and His Guard
A stranger arrived in the square the day following the eclipse. Even under the guise of his glamour, he towered above the clan’s tallest residents, and, according to eye witnesses, gave off an unapproachable aura.
In short, there was something distinctly off about him.
No one was surprised, therefore, when it was revealed that he had some relation to Dreamweaver. They tore out of their home in a rage, their eyes glowing with the eerie golden light that many of us here in Clan Feldspar have become intimately familiar with, and set upon the newcomer with such fervor that their mate was eventually forced to intervene.
It was the hottest anyone had seen them in a long while, made even worse when their son, Phantasos, timidly stepped forward and admitted that he had invited the stranger into the territory.
Phantasos was immediately relegated to his room without supper, but we at the paper caught up with him later in the evening for a brief interview.
“I knew dede would be teed off,” he said, “but I’d rather be grounded than dead, y’know? Sornieth’s taken a turn for the worse, and we need to start thinking about how we can protect our clan. Ozymandias can do that. He’s probably the only one who can, short of the Weaver Herself.”
The stranger, Ozymandias, declined to be interviewed. He doesn’t appear to be particularly interested in the lives (or well-beings, for that matter) of Feldspar’s residents, but sticks to Phantasos like glue, suggesting a deeper bond between the two than perhaps even our young heir is aware of. Unsociable and cold, he makes for poor company, but an undeniably imposing guardian.
Understandably, opinions of him are split.
The Nightmare: What Happens Now?
Dreamweaver was uncharacteristically frank with us all following the events of this year’s Brightshine Jubilee. The part they played was minor in some residents’ opinions, major in others’, but the fact remains that they have a monster living inside of them.
So where do we go from here?
It’s a touchy subject for Dreamweaver. They told us here at the paper that, as much as they want to encourage transparency, they aren’t so sure they’re ready to talk about it in-depth just yet.
“The nightmare is an intimate part of who I am,” they elaborated, “and the darkest part of my long history here in Sornieth. It’s difficult to talk about without being overwhelmed.
“Rest assured, however,” they went on, “that neither I nor the Lightweaver believe it will cause any issues for Feldspar residents. Whatever problems that may arise from its return to my heart will be personal, and will affect only myself. I pray that will put your minds at ease.”
We aren’t likely to ever receive a more technical explanation from the founder, but, at least for now, we can all rest easy knowing the nightmare is at its end.
Foreign Relations on the Rise
As promised, Dreamweaver and their ambassadors have thrown everything they’ve got into improving foreign relations and strengthening alliances with clans from across the Continent--when they aren’t reabsorbing living nightmares and dismantling oppressive autocracies, that is.
A number of clans have joined Feldspar in its efforts to defend Sornieth against encroaching dangers. In recent months, Feldspar has allied with no less than six separate clans--most notably Clan Asclepius, our Acolight cousins to the north, who specialize in the fields of fertility and transgenderism.
Feldspar’s alliance with Asclepius marks the beginning of a leap forward in medical advancement. Isaiah, the clan’s general practitioner and head of the local hospital, is rumored to have been seen in talks with Asclepius’ founders, Overseers Eleanor and Itzal.
“It’s only a matter of time before we surpass other local clans in medical technology and methodology,” he informed. “Asclepius is the most medically advanced clan in the Sunbeam Ruins, but we’ll be happy to settle for second place.”
Lightning Has Struck!
Although the local hospital has made use of Lightning technology since its inception, outside of the medical field, it is unusually rare for a clan situated so near the border. A popular theory is that the clan’s mages are resistant toward it, fearing that it may render them obsolete, but the general consensus is that the founders have simply been too busy to properly implement it.
That’s all about to change. This coming eon, Feldspar’s Lightning Representative, Dr. Volskaya Sokolov, will begin outfitting the clan’s border outposts with what he refers to as “two-way radios.” Two-way radios allow for speedy communication across sizable distances, without the use of complex, time-consuming spells, and can be powered easily with lightning magic, provided by the clan’s Lightning Sprites, Electric Nymphs, and other Lightning-attuned familiars.
“Dreamweaver focuses too much on goings-on outside of the territory,” Volskaya told the paper. “I believe it is time we focus instead on expansion and advancement within our own borders. Lightning technology will aid us in this venture. Under my supervision, we will soon put the great cities of my homeland to shame.”

I just realized I can actually talk here. Like this is my account fuck u
Fucking uhhhhhh, hi ig lemme ramble abt my God ocs yea?
Ignore this part if you don't wanna hear (likely) unedited rambles lol it doesn't matter
CW: neglect/abuse, assholery/narcissism, manipulation, tread lightly!
read the under cut owo
Also don't steal my art I'll fucking?? Fight you????
So
I have three main gods that I wanna talk abt especially bc they've been on my mind lately.. Less get it, side notes are in (parentheses) and are bolded cause I have perception issues whoo I don't want it to jumble together is my point lol
First up is my asshole,
Giodine
they/them (preferred)
god/godself (i like pronouns that fit my characters, so I'm giving a bunch away for one night only at--)
ID : Giodine is colored with gold-ish yellow skin and ginger hair. Their eyes are a muted purple and they have tiny eyebrows. Their lips are a muted brown and are full looking, their nose is sharp and points down. They have wings for ears and is wearing a blazer with a long-sleeved, collared shirt underneath it. The background is beige with a yellow square and a dark purple square partially encompassing it. It is signed GH (for ghoulish husband), Spork, 21.
(lemme know if that helps at all! I'm sure I can do better so lemme know!)
If they look weird here it's bc I accidentally made their face too long but believe it or not this is in fact just a doodle Ik I'm so fuckin talented babes.
Anyways, they're basically the first God to ever exist on my version of earth (though even that is fickle rn, world-building is hard unless I hyper-focus on it, and haha Guess What I Haven't Been Thinking About) and they're very egotistical and selfish. As I'll probably yap about later is how they're manipulative as well, especially to another God I'll mention, and very neglectful to the other... other one.
Their partner(professionally), or fiend as they call him, is sam who for the first few eons was, unsurprisingly, absolutely terrible to him. A few tender moments are few and far in between in what could only be described as a completely rancid relationship. I'll describe giodine's side and in sam's lil ramble, I'll describe his :]
I have to explain this because it's a big part of the lore and how they can't work together, even when one of them is very much near The Void (technical death for gods) BUT basically, with Sam, giodine created purgatory. The issue here is that they basically seduced sam into doing it. Well, even if they hadn't, sam was in lesbians(happy pride month lmao) with giodine and would've done it anyway. But the ISSUE is that with the creation of purgatory came complications. See, my gods have to take time to develop into their power, and considering giodine was first and sam was around 666th.. you see the issue. Sam wasn't into his complete power yet and thus lost a giant part of it that went into purg.
See, giodine saw no problem with this (until much later, they do get a VERY SLOW BURN redemption arc cause this ain't even the worst of it), they got what they were aching for out of them and thusly had no need for..sam. They laid him in the spot where she was made (fwi it isn't inherently sexual, it can be, but literally, they just merged together-- taking bits and pieces of each other (which sam did not have enough of) and earth and light yadda, yadda I'll post the story I wrote for that later if I'm up to it) and left him there in the grass.
Again, they saw no problem with that, the deed was done, they didn't care anymore. A common issue in their qualms, sam and Giodine. They did find an issue in Sam finding an issue in the lack of aftercare, which resorted to any message going to or coming from sam going straight to his assistant and going back through them for a couple of thousand years. They found that infuriating-- how could he not face them over something so small! and for years?! it was ridiculous. After forcing a face-to-face meeting, a heated proclaim of hurt from sam, and a bitter agreement to meet up every now and again, they got what they wanted from him. Again. It was a business after all, there was no point in making it harder than it needed to be.
Giodine doesn't necessarily like boundaries and tends to overstep sam's frequently. They also don't like his reaction to his boundaries being long jumped over, which thusly ends up in disgruntled messages being sent back and forth between them and his assistant for a month or three. It slowly gets through to them, but they tend to say some stupid shit and if they want sam to stay, they have to try and avoid mentioning how "overly sensitive" he is to something that happened eons ago.
(quick mention, there isn't like. time. here. so in all honesty, giodine probably counted earth days instead of Heaven 'days' to get that) Soon into their arrangements to meet, they seem to get on at least tolerable terms, obviously, a few meetings where neither of them feels like going apeshit and taking proper shapeless (or in sams case, he's got a newfound form for ANGER OO just for giodine 🤗) forms isn't going to fix a grudge that has yet to be apologized for by the way. But it's a start to a very long process down the road. Tolerance.
Giodine as an entity is very fickle and rude and demanding. They tend to have a short temper that no one else is allowed to have or comment on-- They were the first therefore they were the most important!
This is very obviously an issue. But it's mostly directed to purgatory. Almost all of their seething rage is pointed towards the poor entity, she's barely been alive yet and they already seem to hate her for things she doesn't know how to do. Honestly, I don't think Purg will ever fully forgive them for the unnecessary abuse of her character, but just as Sam and Giodine get on better terms, they had barely just begun fixing the hole in their relationship. As of now, Sam/Giodine don't have any minor plot points with purgatory other than the major one so I don't have a lot to say about their relationship right now. Maybe one day.
I'd go into details, seriously, but I just wanna ramble about their relationships with each other and their impact on each other's existence. Hope you don't mind a few secrets 😉
But, now, it's time for a new God, one I think most people take a liking to...
Sam (Samuel)
He/him
ID: Sam is surrounded by clouds in the light blue, fading to a darker blue sky and the yellow sun. His horns are a darker beige, which is being highlighted by the sun shining down on him, he also has pointed ears. His skin is red which is very prominent in the sun. His eyes are completely yellow, his hair, beard and mustache are also black. He has an orange scar crawling up to his Adams apple. His wings are a darker grey which is also being highlighted by the sun. His nails are painted black and his hand is holding up the black fabric barely covering his shoulders. Around the painting is a gold and red shaded frame with swirls complimenting each side and a crystal at the bottom of it. It is lightly signed GH, for ghoulish husband.
Sam, Sam, Samuel.
If you don't realize right away, Sam is basically Satan, he's the ruler of hell
Like how giodine was the first to appear on earth, as mentioned before sam was 666th for funnie reasons. Sam was made from bugs, dried blood, and sunlight which sounds pretty gross, but he's far from it. He's a silly, yet neat, guy. He wears Hawaiian shirts and khakis (not around giodine lmao) for cryin' out loud! how bad of a person can he be? Apparently to giodine (for a while obviously) he was the most retched entity to exist. This very much hurt him considering the amount of fake care they showed him before. With a mixture of confusing feelings (which wasn't supposed to be a thing but Univerce went "lmao you'll be fine" and left... short explanation, Univerce is the Universe and is the entity who simply builds these planets and gods that'll appear there and leave them to their own devices, xyr not extremely important in this story. Nor would they care.) and feeling used, he decided that no he wasn't going to take that.
If there is one thing Sam knows how to do is to self preserve himself, even if that means getting passive-aggressive notes sent to him every once in a while. While this period, Sam was surprisingly the least productive (unfortunately giodine knew this and eventually mentioned it in one of their meetings which made him hide away cause like hell giodine was going to be critical of /him/) but he managed. It wasn't terrible, but unfortunately, Sam being able to talk it out with someone who does practically the same work as he does and gets newer, more helpful ideas was better in the long run.
Unsurprisingly, Sam was the first to initiate the healing of his and giodine's relationship but it wasn't reciprocated. Who would've figured, aye? Giodine kept pushing it back onto him and ignoring any progress that could've been made before. Which was frustrating.
The painting above was 'painted' by giodine, which is sorta where their relationship gets somewhat on an understanding of each other. Giodine gets to take a deep long look into who Sam is and tries to express it but it never fit him, it makes them realize that they never really-- truly got to know him. And all it does for Sam is make him even more confused about his place in giodine’s mind. He figured it's another fluke to get him to do something, so he ends up distancing himself when they start actually reciprocating his friendship advancements.
Suddenly, like a flash, Sam was forced to stay with giodine which is where the majority. I'll explain.
Sam...isn't actually the ruler of hell. Anymore, anyways depending on the timeline. His and purgatory's relationship has always been complicated, she always avoided him, and when they talked she always seemed scared of him. So in the end, they've never been close. Distant. Sam always wanted to talk to her, he made her, but if she didn't want to talk to him he wouldn't force it. But imagine his surprise as Purg singlehandedly took over hell in a hazed frenzy.
And not only that, had a personal vendetta against him!
Well, that would be the only explanation to Sam considering how he ended up broken and barely 'alive' at the hands of her. Horns broken and in tatters, pain and almost obliterated it felt like a hate crime. He didn't know what to do when he made it to the office, Purgatory was creating chaos outside his door and barely being able to breathe he felt like it was the end. So he called giodine.
Purgatory
She/her
ID: Purgatory is surrounded by flowers that are dark grey and white. The light fades down into a dark green. The light shines down on top of her straight, white hair that has yellow flowers tucked into it. Her skin is a dark brown and has a orange-ish yellow scar on her shoulder trailing up to her neck. Her skin is also highlighted by the sun. In one of her eyes, her sclera is black with an orangey, glowing iris. As for the other eye it it has a white sclera and the same, glowing orange iris. She has wings for ears, one dark grey and one white along with beige horns. She has a white fabric covering her chest. The frame is gold with white accents, but also has vines and moss crawling up the side.
(may have goofed a bit and forgot to color the sclera of her other eye white but ignore that pls)
Purgatory was made by Sam and Giodine, but to her it felt like a mistake. Why make someone that you’re going to be terrible to, she believed. Giodine seemed to hate her and eventually made her section almost obsolete because she simply wasn’t able to keep up with the backlog that she wasn’t taught to deal with. Not only that, she didn’t have any help with any of it, it was almost like she was expected to just do it on her own. Until Death came along to help, but that’s not what we’re going to be talking about right now.
And also, Purgatory is Purgatory yadda, yadda, I wont insult your intelligence.
Giodine’s thought process (other than wanting to be Real Close to Sam and once that thought filtered out, promptly ignored it) was that all the extras that don’t fit in either category of their thought of good and evil they’d go to her. (doesn’t matter cause in Sam's system it filters through ‘levels of assholery’ and depending on how bad you are you either just vibe in the upper city under rule of capitalism and possibly many under paying jobs or being actually tortured for his amusement if you’re just evil. Morally grey. Anyway, it could work p well in heaven if giodine wasn’t such a damn stickler.) But in the end, every day, less and less people ended up in purgatory, leaving her with barely any people and more verbal abuse from giodine who ‘HAS to take them or they would be more dead than they already are’. You see the pain she has to go through, right?
~Idea section, this is probably not canon anyways so dont take it serious~
My thought is that another oc (BA, you may have heard of him idk) takes over simply because Purg took multiple hims from alternative timelines (which isn’t allowed but what’re they gonna do, undead a dead clown? multiple times from multiple timelines???)) because she adored him and they figured ‘well we gotta redo purgatory may as well do it like this’ and make him a demi-dead-god. i think thats a cool idea right? anyhoo
~Idea section over uwu~
Purgatory overall is a fairly timid character, she doesn’t like conflict, is easily overwhelmed, and generally keeps to herself. She doesn’t see the point in being in any drama if she’s just going to be yelled at and scolded even if it’s not about her. The only way i could describe her taking over hell is this:
She was tired. She was angry and after feeling like nothing was in control or in her hands, she snapped. Why doesn’t she get anything or get to be ‘all powerful’ but they do? She knew if she took on Giodine she’d likely get thrown to the void, but sam? He felt fair game. Considering her fear of both of these gods, she planned and got her courage up to take him over. She had considered negotiations but in the end, she ended up going into a haze and ruining everything in sight. She was more powerful than she thought and once she started, she didn't stop until Death restrained her and Sam was already in pieces at God’s doorstep.
The aftermath was fuzzy for her and for everyone really. Godine was planning a take back hell while actually worrying for sam, sam was planning for a retirement, and she was being consoled while trying to get in contact with sam to apologize. Giodine wouldn’t dare let her talk to him, until she just showed up in their office. She didn’t have a problem with Sam, honest, she just was going to take shit over, but it got out of control.
Spoiler, Sam took her apology and they actually became.. somewhat closer after reaching an understanding.
I wanna say that giodine took them being okay and sam retiring as good as sam did about purg running hell, but they didn’t. Giodine and purgatory actually barely got along in the first place, and only begun ‘working’ on their bitterness toward each other because they both had sam to encourage it. I can’t say for certain if they’ll get better, as theyre both undying and have time, but I’ll just say for now its uncertain.
Also, Death is Purgatory’s girlfriend after all of that lmao.
And.. yeah, i hope this makes sense and that you like my drawings and ramblings about my lil story in my head, i guess this is my way to develop it without just keeping it to myself cause god forbid i keep things to myself hshsh.
