Gresha Schuilling and Shimron Fernando announced their first AI-Generated collaboration: "Spirit Fire."
A new creative frontier for a timeless approach to faith-based music.
April 2024 - Gresha Schuilling is a singer and songwriter with a mission to go behind simply creating wonderful songs. She wants to inspire and empower people with a positive message. To do that, she has created a distinctive sound that explores a broad range of influences, from gospel to modern electronic sounds down to R&B and pretty much everything in between! Gresha collaborated with Shimron Fernando many times, but their fruitful musical partnership is taking a whole new step further this time. Their most recent song, "Spirit Fire," features AI-generated content to further enhance the production value of this track.
"Spirit Fire" is notable for being a first for Schuilling and Fernando, in terms of exploring this new creative approach with AI. They collaborated with artificial intelligence for every aspect of the composition. From the lyrics to the music and voice, down to the cover artwork, AI has been a powerful ally throughout the process, enabling these talented artists to tell their stories and to show the world what can happen when AI is driven by people who are motivated to creating something unique and easy to relate to on a universal level. These lyrics celebrate the power of faith and the Holy Spirit, comparing them to the soaring height of a blazing fire with the power to burn away problems and bring ultimate redemption. The AI's ability to assist Schuilling and Fernando with such content is truly remarkable, enabling the songwriters to explore new ideas, styles, and phrasing, while benefiting from this technology's ability to process vast amounts of data and generate fresh perspectives. As this song shows, this is a perfect way to think outside the box and generate something awesome in the process!
This is a wonderful combination of the latest tech and the timeless artistry of humans, which is expectably powerful when the art is driven by a willingness to spread the word about God and share more faith and positivity with everyone willing to listen.

Sri Lanka In Glorified World Cup Bow Out
T20 World Cup - Super 12 - Group 1 Match - Sri Lanka vs West Indies - Abu Dhabi
Sri Lanka signed off on a winning note after losing three matches on the trot and missing out on a place in the semi finals as the West Indies suffered the same fate in their group 1 T20 World Cup match in Abu Dhabi on Thursday night.
Deciding to bowl first after winning the toss, the West Indies bowlers put on show.... one of their most appalling performances on the field with the ball, as the Sri Lankan pair of Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka displayed great maturity to play shots at will in a stand of 91 runs for the second wicket.
With Sri Lanka's batting line-up falling short of any collective contributions, the partnership between Nissanka and Asalanka was all that their team needed to ensure they make a big total of 189 to which the West Indies replied with 169.
Nissanka and Asalanka came together after Sri Lanka lost struggling opener Kusal Perera for 29 in the second ball of the sixth over and tore into the West Indies bowling attack as they plundered 13 fours and two sixes.
West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo who announced his retirement before the start of the match conceded the highest number of runs totalling 42 from his four overs that was a reflection of how bad they bowled as a unit on a pitch that offered good stroke-play to the batters.
In contrast Sri Lanka's bowlers kept to a simple line and length and the West Indies batters never looked to be in the hunt as they indulged in some aimless and poor shot-selection with Chris Gayle (1), Evin Lewis (8), Roston Chase (9), Andre Russel (2), Keiron Pollard (0), Jason Holder (8) and Bravo (0) throwing their wickets away not able to effectively get bat to ball.
Pollard and Bravo were in particular guilty of throwing their wickets away, not reading straight deliveries from spinner Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva that shattered their stumps.
That the West Indies got near Sri Lanka's total of 189 was largely due to Nicholas Pooran (46) and Shimon Hetmyer (81 not out) playing some sensible cricket with Hetmyer in the end running out of partners.
With Sri Lanka, West Indies and Bangladesh knocked out from their group, South Africa and Australia remain the only two countries left to battle for a semi final berth with England having already qualified.
Scores: Sri Lanka 189 for 3 in 20 overs (Pathum Nissanka 51, Kusal Perera 29, Charith Asalanka 68, Dasun Shanaka 25 not out, Andre Russell 2 for 33) West Indies 169 for 8 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 46, Shimron Hetmyer 81 not out, Binura Fernando 2 for 24, Chamika Karunaratne 2 for 43, Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva 2 for 19)

Music is an excellent way to cope with struggles in life, and gospel music, in particular, is known for its power to uplift and inspire. This diverse album is a testament to that, and it is also a showcase of how diverse the gospel genre can be. More runs but not so many overs in the world cup
Over-rates were in the news again with the suspension of West Indies captain Jason Holder for the third Test of the series against England following a second infringement in their series-clinching win at Antigua. This naturally led to much angst-ridden debate around the over-rate issue, with comments such as ‘How can he get suspended for an over-rate offence after a Test match that finished in three days?’ flying around.
This post is not going to get into this particular debate, but it is a fact that over-rates are in constant decline and have been so since the beginning of the postwar era. Essentially cricket was played at about 21 overs per hour (hard to believe, I know) up until the 1940s. It has lost roughly an over an hour for each decade since then, i.e. in 70 years the rate has declined from about 21 an hour to about 14 an hour. Should this trend continue cricket will cease to exist in about the year 2159, simply because no one will be bowling any more. Yes, I am aware that is a bit facetious and won’t actually happen, but it seems highly unlikely that over-rates will do anything other than continue to get slower for the foreseeable future.
Now, as we all know, modern cricket produces run rates that are higher than ever. In terms of runs per over, that is. The average runs per over in 21st-century Test cricket is 3.18. And yet, thanks to the corresponding decline in overs per hour, this is not even close to the highest rate in runs per hour. Thanks to the fact that we now have details of minutes for most Test innings (either for the team innings or the individual batsmen, and usually for both) it is possible to make a good estimate of over-rates and thus also calculate runs per hour by multiplying overs per hour by runs per over.
The 1950s are comfortably the slowest-scoring decade at 2.28 runs per over, but even with the historically highest runs per over rate (close to a run per over higher than the 1950s) that we currently have, the 2010s see just over two extra runs per hour than that period thanks to the corresponding decline in over-rates.
Perera the Last Action Hero
When Ron Oxenham joined Thomas Leather at the crease at Madras on February 4 1936 the Australians were 185 for 9 needing 261 to beat India in their unoffi cial Test. Fifty minutes later the winning runs were hit. Their partnership of 77 was a record for the 10th wicket to win a fi rst-class match and it stood for 83 years. With apologies to Francis Thompson, the thought “O my Oxenham and my Leather long ago” popped into my head as I watched Kusal Perera and Vishwa Fernando (well, Perara mostly; Fernando made 6 not out) take Sri Lanka from 226 for 9 to the 304 they needed to achievea highly unlikely win over South Africa at Durban, thus consigning Oxenham and Leather to the dustbin of cricket statistical history. The record 10th-wicket stand to win a Test – 57 between Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mushtaq Ahmed for Pakistan against Australia at Karachi – had stood for a comparatively short period of 24 and a bit years since September 1994.
South Africa’s rich seam
Even more remarkably, Sri Lanka then went on to beat South Africa again (this time by a more comfortable eight wickets) in the second Test at Durban to produce arguably the greatest upset series win in Test history, and became the fi rst Asian team to win a Test series in South Africa.
The South Africans were huge favourites going into the series in their own conditions, which are generally quite helpful to fast bowlers and rather less helpful to spinners or batsmen brought up in climes much more conducive to spin. The more observant observers had noticed that the four quick bowlers South Africa picked for the fi rst Test all had career averages of under 23. Which naturally led to statisticians scurrying to their databases to fi nd out how often this had happened. Before doing this kind of research it is necessary to defi ne the parameters. In this case a minimum of 40 wickets per bowler was used given that Duanne Olivier, the least experienced of the four-man pace attack, had 41 wickets going into the Test match. And the short answer is that this South African team was the fi rst to go into a Test match with four seamers having career records of 40-plus wickets at an average of below 23. And they still lost.
Anyway, the longer answer is that three other teams have gone into a Test with four bowlers meeting this criteria, although these included spinners. All three times it was England. George Lohmann, George Ulyett, Billy Barnes and Bobby Peel featured together in the first two cases, against Australia at Old Trafford in 1888 and at Lord’s in 1890. England did better than the 2019 South Africans by winning both of those Tests. And the other occasion was against India at Lord’s in 1979 with the bowlers being John Lever, Ian Botham, Mike Hendrick and Phil Edmonds. That match was drawn.
Six and out
Preparations for the World Cup are getting into full swing (icc cricket world cup 2019 match schedule) with ODI series popping up all over the place. In the series between England and West Indies the ball kept popping into the crowd and beyond. The total of 103 ‘maximums in the series fell just four short of the err, maximum for a bilateral ODI series and there were only four matches with play in the series compared to the six in the record 2013/14 series between India and Australia in India.
Chris Gayle alone was responsible for 39 of the sixes. In the process he smashed the previous record for any ODI series (not just bilateral ones) almost as hard as he smashed the ball. Not entirely surprisingly, the previous record (26) was held by Gayle himself in the 2015 World Cup. The bit of my eye that revels in the slightly bizarre lit up when Shimron Hetmyer was dismissed second ball for 6 as West Indies lost momentum having looked on course for the second highest successful ODI run-chase of a target of 419 in the fourth match in Grenada. When I tweeted the list of the nine players to have been dismissed second ball for six in ODIs, the primary response seemed to be disappointment that Shahid Afridi featured only once.
The greatest innings of this type occurred in a County Championship match at The Oval in 1992, when Greg Mike came in with Nottinghamshire needing 25 runs off 11 balls to beat Surrey, and was dismissed fourth ball for 18. Notts duly won by three wickets.

Gresha Schuilling and Shimron Fernando present: "Revelator"
Gresha Schuilling and Shimron Fernando have once again joined forces to release another excellent track called "Revelator."
The song's production is crisp and intuitive, combining Gospel influences with a modern touch. The lyrics refer to several verses from the Bible, with particular inspiration from 1 Corinthians 2:10, which states, "These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God."
The verse in question is truly moving, as it highlights the concept of God constantly imparting profound truths to us through his Spirit. This is one of the most significant and profound ways in which we can connect with God, and the song emphasizes the importance of being open to receiving such gifts from above. By seeking to comprehend God's wisdom and cultivating a more receptive and grounded attitude toward our faith, we can strengthen our bond with him. This process of spiritual growth involves a deeper understanding of God's message and a willingness to engage with it on a personal level. Ultimately, this connection with God can provide us with a sense of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment in our lives. Musically, the song is just as impactful, with a sound that falls somewhere in between soft rock, pop, and soul, especially shining through in the passionate vocal delivery. The drums are punchy and crisp, adorned with beautiful keyboards and guitars. The lead guitar in this piece is truly special. Its lush tones evoke a sense of warmth and depth that feels quite fitting with the topic and lyrics. What sets it apart is the use of reverb effects, which add a touch of dreaminess and spiritual awakening to the sound. In fact, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the guitar work in this piece rivals some of the very best contemporary modern worship music productions out there. The overall effect is truly uplifting and inspiring, and it's no surprise that this piece has become a favorite among those who appreciate great music. In addition, the piano and key parts add a subtle yet rich layering of ambiance to bring even more depth and enhance the listening experience. Closing in at four minutes and fifteen seconds, ”Revelator” offers a powerful and heartfelt message of faith while maintaining an approachable and melodic sound.
