Shimotsuki Ryuuma, Sakamoto Ryouma
Thinking if Ryuuma might be an important hint to future lore.
Ryuuma's name is written in katakana, but it sounds similar to the Japanese hero Sakamoto Ryouma 坂本龍馬. The "Ryouma" kanji 龍馬, in fact, can also be read as "Ryuuma".
History is of course way way more complicated than this, but the "trope" associated with Sakamoto Ryouma is that he's the man with "the revolutionary vision" to open up Japan to the world and ended the shogunate rule.
The Ryuuma in One Piece seemed to live in an era before the mysterious walls were put up, so his situation seems to be the reverse of Ryouma. Still. Sakamoto Ryouma was originally a member of this hardline "anti foreigner" movement. The story of One Piece's Ryuuma fending off foreign attackers seemed somewhat close to this.

Legend has it, Ryouma met with the Navy magistrate who "has been to the outside world", intending to kill him. However, after hearing the magistrate's explanation that international trade can be beneficial, Ryouma became that man's disciple.
This led to another "trope" associated with Ryouma, which is that he was one of the first few people in that era who embraced "foreign" advances, such as guns, in a time where samurai were stubbornly sticking to their swords (this is a misconception about the time period, but leave it for now). The main point of this is that Ryouma was someone who was "connected to the world outside Japan during isolationist period".
Anyway. Oda-sensei chose to incorporate Ryuuma into the lore like this. He could've just left Ryuuma just be a lone "legendary samurai" and leave it at that, but he chose to have Onimaru mention all that about Ryuuma being involved in a situation about outside parties trying to attack Wano. Plus sensei chose to assign him a proper surname, Shimotsuki. This makes his name even more similar to Sakamoto Ryouma.
If Ryuuma is the reverse of Sakamoto Ryouma, or a reference to Ryouma in any way, maybe he had something to do with the mountain walls in Wano? Or maybe he had a hand in the situation with Nefertari D. Lili and the poneglyphs? Since it's really hard to tell how long ago was the time period where Ryuuma was alive.

Thinking a bit about some scenes I’d most love seeing the anime expand upon or add for the adaptation of Wano.
-More of Izo and Kiku! Just as many extra or extended scenes as possible spent on their story and connections to each other, the Akazaya, and the Straw Hats. Kin’emon, Kawamatsu, Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp especially. Maybe have one of the siblings talk a bit about Ushimaru or Ryuuma.
-Hyogoro being proud of Luffy for applying what he taught him about haki in Udon to defeat Kaido.
-Many more cute interactions between the key members of the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance and friends at the party. Seeing more of our victorious alliance exploring the festival, playing music, hosting a mock sumo contest with Kawamatsu as the star, and generally enjoying the atmosphere would be quite lovely.

The team and key image (shown above) for the anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's Monsters one-shot manga were unveiled via the official X account for his One Piece comic. In January 2024, the anime will be available for streaming on Netflix globally. Japan will also be able to stream it on Amazon Prime Video. The length of Monsters will be one television anime episode.

Some people are now convinced Kuina is Zoro's cousin and therefore Tashigi must be his cousin too. Make it make sense 😬
Not only there's zero indication Zoro and Tashigi are in any way related, but if you look at Zoro’s family tree, Zoro and Kuina aren't related either– unless you consider every single person on Earth who has the same surname as your grandma your relative, and in that case good luck at Spring Festival, Christmas, or any other holiday you celebrate!
They're two separate family trees, and we have no idea if and how they're connected. From what we know so far, they aren't, at least not closely:

When Zoro spoke of Kouzaburou, he spoke of him as Kuina's grandpa, with no relation to himself. Zoro didn't even know his name! The only relation they could possibly have was sharing a Shimotsuki ancestor centuries ago, something that neither of them was aware of and anyway doesn't make Zoro Kuina's cousin– or else we should call every single other human from our country our cousin.

Reading the SBS 105 it also looks like only Furiko (Zoro’s grandma) is a Shimotsuki from Ryuuma's lineage, while Kouzaburou is not descended from Ryuuma. Two different branches (families) of an ancient clan.
Since Ryuuma lived around 400 years ago, it means the Shimotsuki ancestor Zoro and Kuina might share is from even earlier. Which is so far back in time it makes any talk of familial relation even more pointless.

Yes, I ship them. I respect the canon, of course, this is something strange in me -the fact that I prefer other ship over the "official" one only happened here and with DC lol. If you prefer, you can see this as me just liking their relationship as good friends though, which is also true, so yeah ^^
What I'll never say is that I like Erina though. Because I don't xD. Again, I respect her character and her fans. But that's somthing I can't change 🤷🏼‍♀️

How do you feel about the Wano Arc this far?
I think I’m in the minority in saying I haven’t been very invested in it. 
I had very high hopes and expectations going into this arc, but I was also ready for Oda to completely surprise me and subvert any expectation I had with some good stuff. In the end, neither my expectations were fulfilled nor the new stuff was particularly exciting.
To me, the beginning of Wano up to the start of Oden’s flashback feels like a long filler arc. The Strawhats are just there dressing up as locals, reenacting Edo Japan tropes, making friends and doing small side missions; there is no rush, there are no real stakes (you know Luffy or Zoro will have plot armor whatever they do because that’s not the final part of the arc); the little crumbs we’re given that promise important future developments are too small to even care (CP9? Vegapunk? Brook’s poneglyph? Ryuuma? Shimotsuki? Can we have more than just name-drops please?)
I feel like the Wano-mainland part of the arc could have been done in half the number of chapters.
Then came Oden’s flashback, which was awesome and all, BUT– what important things did it actually reveal that we didn’t know already or we couldn’t piece together by ourselves? I can only think of that panel with Roger laughing, to be honest. Such a long flashback with such a limited payoff. It was more exposition than the Reverie-style reveals I expected from it.
The Onigashima part looks more promising– finally some action. But what’s still missing, in my opinion, are the emotional stakes. I think the only way to create those stakes is for the alliance’s plan to fail and for the story to get to a point where all seems lost and everyone’s in despair. And/or for something to happen that will create a stronger emotional connection between the Strawhats and the samurai’s cause.
And that’s how I’ll get to my biggest issue with Wano– the lack an emotional connection between the SH crew and what’s happening. Which translates into lack of emotional investment from me, as the reader. The Strawhats feel like spectators, not agents in this war. I know this is a conscious choice by Oda because in the latest chapter Luffy even says to Yamato “we’re not the ones who start this battle”. But I think Oda has failed to create other agents that do a good job with investing me in their story:
Momo, Kin’emon, Kanjuro or Raizo have been in the story for nearly a decade but have always felt like side characters of little interest to me. Same for Inu and Neko. Kiku is awesome and is the Scabbard I’m most interested in, but she’s been underutilized and not as fleshed-out as I’d hoped she would be. Kyoshiro/Denjiro looked so interesting and promising in the beginning but after his reveal he’s really just become Kin’emon’s double.
And don’t get me started on Hiyori and Toki, who have been cardboard cutouts of the Edo princess stereotype, with zero agency and just secondary roles. And Oden... he’s like machismo incarnated. I really can’t relate to him and his story aside from reading it as some mythical tale. I hope Yamato will be how Oda deconstructs this machismo thing and makes Oden look more interesting to me in retrospect.
I know I’m very critical but despite all this, I still think I’ll be able to see Wano differently in the future depending on how things go from now. I think Wano-mainland and Onigashima could be seen as two different arcs when all is said and done (kinda like Water 7 and Enies Lobby). They already seem to have different themes and a different narrative structure. And if Onigashima does things right – again, in terms of emotional stakes and investment – and is followed by an arc conclusion that is well done, I might end up forgiving the lackluster first part.
