hi, i really love your writing!
Since you mentioned wanting to write something about shikaku and yoshino, i was wondering if you could do headcanons/a microfic about them reacting to shikamaru being in love? Seeing him actually put effort into a relationship, and then stalking him on a date or something like that. Preferably temari, but i'm not picky.
Pairing: Shikaku Nara/Yoshino Nara + Mentioned ShikaTema
For: Anon <3 and @shikaku-the-nara who I'm hoping will also enjoy some ShikakuYoshino love <3 Thank you so much for this request anon it was super cute and I hope you enjoy it because you deserve the best things!

A date.
Their son, the boy who always groaned and complained about marriage and love whenever he had to see his parents so much as kiss, had a date. It was almost too good to be true.
Finally, Shikaku would be able to impart some advice about romancing a woman to his son.
"Who is it?" Yoshino slapped her hands on the table and leaned forward, staring deep into their son's soul. "Who's the lucky girl?"
"Well, I wouldn't say 'Lucky'," Shikamaru cringed when his mother leaned in a bit closer. "I don't think you've met her."
"Haven't met her, so it can't be Ino," glancing Shikaku's way, Yoshino huffed when he simply shrugged his shoulders. If this was a game his wife wanted to play, he would let her play it. "And not Sakura. Is she from Konoha?"
"No?"
"well, that's a little unexpected," settling back in her spot, Yoshino smirked. "The Suna girl?"
"Temari," Shikaku corrected his wife, a little smile tugging at the side of his lips when Shikamaru glanced his way with a look of betrayal. "Come on now, you didn't think I would fail to tell your mother about her did you?"
How could he keep such important information from the woman he had married? It was too much fun seeing her eyes light up when he regaled her with stories of how their son would swoon over the older girl, or watching her giggle when he talked about Shikamaru's obvious crush.
"Just like your father," Yoshino nodded her head approvingly. "Of course, you'll have to bring her over to meet us properly if this date goes well."
"you know, I think Lord sixth-"
"Lord Sixth has nothing for you to do the night of your date," Shikaku corrected his son before he could even come up with an excuse. "Go and enjoy yourself. It can't be as bad as my first date with your mother."
What a disaster that had been. an hour late because of a last-minute mission with nothing on hand to give her except some forget-me-not he had plucked from Inoichi's shop on the way by. How he had managed to get a second date after that was still beyond him, but Yoshino didn't complain too much about her choice of men so he must have done something right.
"Speaking of," Yoshino flashed him a grin. "If your father gives you any advice, do the exact opposite."
"H-hey!"
"I want this to work out for Shikamaru," she defended her words. "And not every woman is going to be as forgiving as me."
"You're forgiving?" Shikamaru cringed when both of his parents glared at him. "I just mean...Do you have any advice for me?"
"Get flowers," Yoshino answered before he even had a chance to open his mouth. "And I mean good flowers. Not forget-me-nots. Tulips or Lillies would be the best."
Not forget-me-nots? How insulting. Did she really mean that?
"You have your forget-me-nots from our first date pressed into a book," Shikaku argued. "They were good flowers."
"You stole them from Inoichi."
"I paid him!" Three days later and a little short on change, but his friend had never held that over his head.
"Are you two really doing this?" Shikamaru groaned. "Right now?"
Neither of them paid him any attention, focusing their energies instead on arguing about the importance of forget-me-nots and the value of not stealing from one's friends. Shikaku would stand his ground until the day he died, or Yoshino told him he was sleeping on the couch.
A good night's rest was not possible on the couch and he would gladly concede any argument just to be allowed into bed to cuddle his beautiful, correct wife.
The issue of Shikamaru's upcoming date would have to wait until later, and Shikaku would pass on some of his dating knowledge. Even if he had to wait for said beautiful wife to leave the room before doing it.

You are doing so amazing with these prompts! I am so excited to wake up every day to see what you have written! ((Also: Hello fellow Canadian!)) Would a ShikakuYoshino (Shikamaru's parents) pairing be okay? I'd love to see your take on how Yoshino wrangled Shikaku into agreeing to going on a date with her. ♡

-
She had been called many things in her life but there weresome qualities that Yoshino had never bothered to deny about herself and one ofthose was that she was stubborn. Oh so very stubborn. As a child her mother hadcalled her Little Goat in that exasperated but loving motherly way. Now she wasfreshly past her seventeenth birthday, of an age to marry, and she wasdetermined that today would be the day she finally caught the man she’d pickedout several years before. Finding another was not an option.
Dust kicked up under her footsteps and Yoshino primlybrushed it off the front of her dress as she came to a stop on a doorstep justa few houses down the street from her own. Three sharp raps announced herpresence and then there was nothing to do but to wait.
Not for very long, though.
Shikaku opened the door and froze when he caught sight ofwho had come round. She could practically see the gears turning in his mind ashe tried to quickly think of an excuse to send her away again but Yoshino hadcome prepared.
“If you want me to go,” she said, “honestly truly want meto, then I will.” And she almost meant that.
“Ah…” He didn’t seem to know how to respond to that but itwas all well and good. The silence gave her a chance to speak her piece beforehe could flee.
“Nara Shikaku, if you will have me I would be honored to beconsidered as a potential suitor. I find you honorable, attractive, and just smartenough to know when to stop being stubborn. We would make an excellent couple. And more than that we would make excellent children; I know the elders havebeen bothering you about that.”
He blanched and Yoshino nodded, knowing she’d hit the mark.
“Right then. I want you to meet me for dinner in two hours atthe BBQ place three blocks from the compound gates. Will you come?”
“You don’t really leave a lot of options, do you?” Shikakumurmured.
“There is always an option to say no,” she told him in amuch softer voice. “I would never want you to feel forced.”
“Eh, to say no would be troublesome. The elders have beenbothering me just like you said and if you’re going to save me the work offinding a suitable wife then I suppose I’m not going to reject it.”
Anyone else might have found such a lukewarm sentimentinsulting but Yoshino knew this young man almost better than she knew herself, had wormed her way in to his life as a young child demanding friendship fromall her neighbors and fallen in love somewhere along the way. She could readthe hidden pleasure in the way his eyes didn’t quite meet hers and just a hintof shyness in the overly casual way he slipped both hands in to his pockets.
He’d always been sweet in his own way and she wouldn’tchange him for the world. She loved him just as he was, always had, and alwayswould.
“You will be on time,do you hear me?”
“Keep your calm, woman, I’ll be there.” Shikaku gave her oneslow nod that she returned with a great deal of satisfaction, turning on herheel to march away with as much confidence as she had approached the house.
Only this time there were jitters in her stomach and amassive grin that she barely held back until she was able to hide her face fromhim. Stubborn as she might be, there had always been that niggling doubt in theback of her mind that he might say no. It was wonderful to be right. Almost aswonderful as it would be to have Shikaku’s hand to hold for the rest of herlife.

Just Ask Her Out
Words: 1186
Prompt: Pushing Up Daisies
@narutoccw2022
Disclaimer: I wrote this in under an hour first thing after waking up (and before baby woke up) so...ya XD
Today was the day.
No matter what the world had to throw at him, he was finally going to pull up the courage and ask Yoshino out on a date. He had waited long enough, watching from the sidelines like a coward.
There was no more time to risk. If he kept holding off, someone else was likely to swoop in and ask her out before him and then he would have lost everything. Wasted his time looking until the woman he loved had gone off with someone else.
“You look depressed,” Inoichi smacked a hand down on his back, chuckling when he glared up at him. “Let’s see- yep, there she is.” it only took him a second to scan the area and spot Yoshino off in the distance. She was seated at a table in the Dango shop alone, enjoying a sweet treat after a long day. “So, finally going to do it?”
“Yes.”
“Well, you’ll have to- wait, did you say yes?” Inoichi looked back down at him with wide eyes. “You’re serious? You’re finally going to ask her out?”
“Yes.” tossing back the glass of sake that had been sitting in front of him for twenty minutes, Shikaku slammed his hands down on the table and stood. More confidence in his body than he had ever felt when faced with the most beautiful women in all of Konoha. “I’m going to ask her out.”
It was simple. All he had to do was walk over and ask her out on a date. Perhaps some Sushi? Or a nice simple Dango date.
Everyone loved dango.
“Wow,” Inoichi took a step back to examine him. “What happened on that mission? I’ve never seen you so determined about anything.”
Death.
More death than Shikaku could handle, and he was a seasoned Shinobi.
There would be funerals. Goodbyes. Tears. All because the information he had been given was wrong, and he hadn’t had an opportunity to adjust the plan before the attack came. They’d succeeded in the end.
They always did when he was in charge, but people had still died.
Shinobi had lost their lives, and he had listened to a kid younger than him whisper about the future he had been looking forward to while he bled out in his arms. That moment was cemented in his memory for the rest of his life, and it left him with one very important fact.
If he waited any longer, he could end up just like that kid. Pushing up daisies before he even had a chance to live his life. There were questions he needed answering before he became a stone slab in the ground.
Did he have a shot with her?
Was her smile more beautiful up close?
What did her kiss taste like?
“You’re stalling.”
“I’m thinking,” he wasn’t. He had done more than enough thinking in the last twenty minutes watching her, but he couldn’t move. No matter how hard he tried his feet refused to cooperate with him. “I can’t-”
“Think of the reason you wanted to do this,” Inoichi would never say those words if he knew what it was that had pushed Shikaku in the end. He’d never wish for his friend to look down at his hands and see the blood of the Shinobi he had been unable to save, or remember the words spoken in fear and regret as his eyes closed to the world for one final time. “You can do it, Shikaku. She’s just sitting there.”
Just sitting there looking like the most beautiful person in the world. How was he not supposed to be intimidated? Yoshino was graceful, stubborn, hard-headed, and beautiful. She had a smile that could knock him on his ass.
She was out of his league.
“Do it before someone else does,” Inoichi insisted, tugging him out from behind the table he was sitting at and nudging him forward. “Before you lose your shot.”
There wasn’t enough sake in his systems to be the brave, confident man he wanted to be. Not when he was facing a foe who could destroy him with a single word, but Shikaku ignored that and moved forward.
Forced himself to face his fate no matter what it held for him.
He had just stepped into the little shop when Yoshino’s eyes landed on him, a playful little smirk stretching across her lips. “Shikaku.”
He could do this. “Yoshino.”
She sat there waiting, staring into his soul. Not a word left her mouth but those eyes said everything he needed to know.
I know why you’re here. I dare you. Do it.
Swallowing his fear, he took a leap of faith.
“Go out with me.” it wasn’t refined or well thought out, but even Shikaku couldn’t be perfect all the time. There wasn’t a person in this world he thought could face down Yoshino and force out a proper invitation to a date. If there was, they weren’t in love.
Not like he was.
“Dango?” As if reading his mind she held up the stick that she had just finished cleaning off. “Tomorrow?”
She was saying yes. Somehow, with all of the plans he had gone through in his mind, he had never imagined this outcome. This moment of pure bliss.
Yoshino was saying yes. She wasn’t pulling his chain or making him fight for it at all. She was smiling that beautiful smile of hers and saying without a doubt that she would go out with him.
“Dango.” he agreed, too shocked to come up with any other response.
“Well then,” getting up from her chair, Yoshino made her way towards him and stopped just before the shops exist. “Let’s say, six?”
“Six works,” on the outside he was the picture-perfect example of calm and collected, but deep inside of his soul he was losing it. His dreams were coming true right before his eyes and he didn’t have to fight for them. It was almost too good to be true.
“Six then,” she agreed, finally walking past him and out of the store. “And don’t be late! I won’t wait for you!”
A date.
Nara Shikaku had successfully procured a date with Yoshino without any hassle. It was almost too good to be true. After everything he had dealt with this week, something was finally going his way.
“Well, that settles it,” Inoichi appeared at his side and draped an arm around his shoulders. “You’re going to need flowers.”
“Everything is flowers with you…”
“I own a flower shop, that should be a given.”
Glancing his friend's way, Shikaku sighed. “Maybe I’ll ask Choza for advice. He’s the only one who has a girlfriend out of the three of us.”
“I-hey!” Slipping out of Inoichi’s arm, he made a quick exit, his friend's protests chasing him down the street as he went off to find Choza.
A date. Yoshino was going out on a date with him.
He still couldn’t believe it. Maybe he still had a chance at accomplishing some of those life dreams before the day he found himself pushing up daisies.
