Before the insects have made their claim
a/n. wrote this as an exercise to get me back into writing. i just recently watched Edens Zero and i was intrigued by the robots’ internal conflict of their “humanity” so here’s an attempt to flesh out chapter 1 and michael’s character from the manga. im not gonna include every scene (esp the fight scene i suck at it) but im adding on the gaps of the manga chapter. hope u enjoy <3
~
“Ah, my arm broke again.”
Michael had just woken up from his slumber and began to survey his surroundings. He wonders if the screws might have been too loose after its last tinkering before dismissively sighing it off.
Michael is no stranger to this kind of incident that he does not bother to pick up his arm to attach back this time. It comes to harass the inhabitants of planet Granbell one to five times a week, the occurrence growing more frequent as time pass by. It is a constant unwanted reminder that they had long overstayed their welcome, now free to lay their bodies to rest.
The right arm lies in his bed, as if mocking his life degrading each day of old age. Old age? No, that’s too humanistic of a condition to apply to a mere robot.
One can count the time a robot has been conscious from its launching until it’s disabled, but robots don’t age. Not in a traditional sense. Their consciousness is saved through data, transferable to another host if needed be. Death doesn’t come easily to them. But to battery-reliant ones nearing their expiry end, dwelling on a human-abandoned planet—its visit is undeniably inevitable.
Nevertheless, Michael prefers to think of it that way. It is a concept his dear friend would find easier to comprehend. He finds the greatest joys in life revolving around making a certain human on their planet happy. And that involves anything human-related. This complicity of an excuse allows him to wish more freely for a human heart.
Thus, it was not a slumber he had woken up from, but a pretense of a human sleep. A desperate effort to save whatever little energy is left to last the machines more days to welcome.
He grabs the stool beside his bed, his left arm supporting his weight, trying to get up while struggling to balance his body like he had just woken up from a coma. He moved his one foot right after the other, slowly pacing towards a mirror. It was not vanity that humans obsess over that he’s concerned with—not the absence of his right arm, nor the rust and dents displaying on his frame.
Small cogs spin slowly inside his head to form an inverted arch on his mouth, imitating a human muscle forming a smile. It was one of the few visible things that permitted him to show a human expressiveness within the limits of his being. A treasure that further fuels his drive to persevere.
Michael thought himself indifferent to owing favors. As a robot, his program instructs him to abide by a “give and take” principle. But when Shiki gives him a reason to live, what could possibly amount such worth to match what is received?
A loud voice called from outside, demanding attention from his perturbing pondering. “Michael!” shouted a young man, knocking rhythmically on his door. “Let’s hang out!”
One could never have a peaceful amble when accompanied by Shiki, so Michael quietly pleads his body to function well today.
▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️
Luck smiled today at Michael’s surreptitious attempt of hiding his slight predicament. Shiki hadn’t noticed, but his gait required more lifting and dragging than yesterday. Satisfied, Michael (tries to) merrily skips his way towards the town, leaving Shiki to his own devices.
He is so sure the ensuing days would be orchestrated based on Shiki’s whims. Smiling, his mind wanders off all things happy that come along with the young boy’s presence—all the laughter, all the adventures, all his dreams. But all the mind’s a labyrinth and his was a narrow path, the finish line always ending with the uncertainty afflicting Shiki’s future.
The quandary from this morning filled him once again with much apprehension. His forefinger anxiously tapping his thigh he once mimicked a human to calm his nerve did not help one bit. As luck would have it, his line of thought suddenly came to a halt when the growing loud chatter from a curious large crowd gathering at the entrance to the town diverts his attention. What’s going on?
“A guest!” Michael hears some bot exclaimed. Standing on his tiptoes behind the horde, he sees what could only be described as the unimaginable—a human girl and a talking cat.
Every machine present frenzy over the sight of their new guests after a long century of isolation—briskly lining up to greet them in a chorus. “Welcome! To Granbell, the Kingdom of Dreams!”
Michael, still astounded, watches from afar as his peers scramble their way to entertain the visitors, showcasing everything at their disposal: from venturing on quests and princess roleplaying, to a full-on festival invigorated with fireworks and cheers. He couldn’t hear when the guests began to talk, but he assumes they requested a repeat of the whole act as the robots reposition themselves at their designated starting points of the act.
The guests decided to replenish their energy at a nearby bar, introducing themselves as Rebecca and her companion cat, Happy. Unsuspecting of the many sneaky glances casting at the two, their lively conversation and earnest intentions reassures the machines of their nature. But still, the robots were no fools, they know better than to be quick at fully trusting humans.
The robots gazes at the pair exiting the bar, headed straight to the forest. They could only hope that they will get along with Shiki.
▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️
“Hello, traveler. I see that you have failed in your quest.” Mitra, the barmaid, says. She stands behind the counter, taking notice of the guests tromping back to the bar.
“Never mind that—I found a human! A human boy!” Rebecca exclaims. She slams her hands on the counter and adds, “I thought this place was all machines!”
“Ah, you mean Shiki,” Mitra replies kindly and as if on cue, the said boy appears behind her. Shiki ignores the shock Rebecca and Happy displayed and introduces them to all robots present at the bar. “…and this is my friend, Michael.”
“Oh, so you all know each other?” Rebecca asks.
“We’re all friends here.” Shiki enthusiastically replies, pulling Annie and Michael to give a side hug. “Friends!”
As if letting nature takes it course, they held a party once again to celebrate the guests’ arrival. Everyone feasted on Annie’s best dishes; Rebecca dressed up in a lovely dress of boysenberry color. While drunk in beer, everyone dances and sings songs in merriment.
Not too far from the celebration, in a castle that stood proudly tall of all the buildings in the planet, the ruler sits in his throne of gas leaking from the pipes attached to his body. A messenger robot kneels in front of him, delivering news of the guests’ arrival.
“I know,” the Lord Castellan grimly said. “That time has come.”
▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️
The party from before has long since mellowed down and night has finally come for Granbell. Shiki, Rebecca, Happy, and Michael, all find themselves eating dinner together. The humans on table dominates the conversation, easily warming up to each another.
Not long after, Shiki lets out a yawn, announcing his intentions to sleep before his head falls on the table unconsciously, breaking the table in half. Rebecca and Happy shrieks, expressing their concerns for the table.
“‘Why is a human living in a place like this’ is written all over your expression,” says Michael bluntly. Rebecca, mouth gaped open, thought out loud if he was a mind reader. Letting out a chuckle, he states that to be untrue. He continues on telling her about Shiki’s bizarre circumstances. About the demon king, and their attachment to him.
Mitra shows the guests where they will be staying but it would seem that Rebecca has another plan before going to bed. Crouched down, Rebecca stares intently at Shiki.
“What’s the matter Ms. Rebecca?” Michael asks from behind.
“Do you mind if I cut his hair?” Rebecca answers, her eyes glowing a sinister glint. “It has been bugging me.”
Rebecca and Happy retires to their quarters after giving Shiki a more polished haircut. Their conversation trails off in a distance, satisfied of the video contents they amassed, still unaware of the purposive stares they have been receiving all day.
The robots shared a knowing look, shuddering in excitement, agitation, and perhaps, fear. Lord Castellan had already informed the robots of the plan, the instructions passed off orally. A few robots carefully and quietly tuck Shiki in his bedroom, away from the clamorous group of robots ready to set their plan into motion.
Unbeknownst to everyone, Michael began harboring doubts of the human ethics their methods might entail. He isn’t keen on aggrieving a lady and her companion they would entrust Shiki on. But he swallows those doubts with a knowing sigh that nothing else can be done. He turns his head towards the direction of the young boy’s bedroom, probably drooling in his sleep. There’s no way Shiki would leave the town unattended. Not when everyone’s breaking each day.
Still, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Michael stands still; his back pressing against the wall, softly wishing that it would swallow his figure in the background. To his relief, several robots volunteered to do the arduous task. They walk with stealthy footsteps, mindful of their metallic feet creaking loudly on the floor.
Some robots leave to the storage room to fetch a rope, while the others go outside to set up the wooden logs. Everyone looks shamefully excited to tie up innocent travelers despite their best intentions. And as much as Michael would like to reprimand them for showing no remorse, he keeps his lips sealed. After all, he was rowing the same boat as those robots do.
The residents of Granbell all love Shiki, but this love comes with many sacrifices. A sacrifice he knew some bots could no longer endure after a beaming hope had finally shed its light. He is in no place to judge when just this morning, he finds his will to live slowly but surely waning.
▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️
Everyone gathers patiently around the erected wooden platform where Rebecca and Happy were tied up. Guards stand behind them, holding a torch in their hands as if ready to burn a witch at the stake. Rebecca is the first to wake up, immediately asking what’s going on.
“I’ve waited a long time for this day… human.” Lord Castellan walks in front of Rebecca just as he sensed Shiki’s presence pushing his way through the crowd. Michael isn’t prepared for Shiki's imminent anger once he saw what they had done. Even more so when Shiki had declared that she is his friend. Lord Castellan continues his speech, raising the tension with each word he utters.
“We robots are not tools to serve humankind. Our race is not inferior to you humans.” He coldly says. Shiki turns to the other robots only to find their words aligning with the ruler.
“I am not a tool.” Michael says his tone in a timbre Shiki has never heard before. If Shiki wasn’t looking, he would have never thought those words were uttered from the mouth of the robot he considers his best friend.
“It can’t be,” Rebecca cries. “Have they been all infected with a virus?”
Lord Castellan confirms her supposition and claims that it gave them the freedom to think. To no longer be at the hands of vile humans, existing only at their convenience. Shiki, frustrated at the ridiculous assertions they have been spouting, turns to seek out his tools.
His march came to an abrupt stop when a torch nears Rebecca, threatening her life if he continues to take another step. Lord Castellan mocks his attempts to be pointless; invalidating all the time Shiki patched them up when it was actually Granbell’s Castle Auto-Repair System. And that they were only playing a role. Shiki was assigned to be the mechanic.
“No! I’m going to fix you” Shiki cries out, his eyebrows scrunching up in vexation.
“Impossible,” interrupted Lord Castellan.
“I will fix you! Please trust me. We’re friends, aren’t we?”
“You’re human. We’re machine. We cannot be friends.” the ruler says as he throws his cloak away, revealing a body resembling that of a medieval knight’s armor. He tells them of a time when humans and machines lived harmoniously in Granbell, the kingdom of fantasy and dreams. How when guests stopped coming, the humans abandoned the planet. Not even bothering to dispose what is left.
“But I’m a human!” Shiki shouts. “I never left you alone!”
His pleas went unheard. Accusations and condemnations continue to layer on top of each other, as if to shatter the friendship made fragile by the situation. Everyone goes to rile up Shiki: pinning him down and beating him up.
“I thought we were friends!” Shiki’s voice starts quivering. Daylight has never seemed much grimmer than the night. He is hopeless on the ground, every blow as painful as the words that betrayed him today.
Humans and machines are not friends. It tore Michael inside to lie, but he mustered a blistering coldness of hatred pointed at his friend. Shiki’s cries gradually fade in his ears, drowned by a resolute conviction to see through their promise with Ziggy.
And Rebecca, helplessly forced to witness such tragedy wails her words in despair.
“He said you were his friends! How can you be so cruel? You can be friends with anyone! It doesn’t matter whether you’re human or machine!”
At the sight of tears flowing from Rebecca’s eyes, Shiki finds himself getting up. If you have a friend who will shed tears for you, you better treasure them forever, he remembers.
Shiki throws a decisive punch, dispersing the robots in the area.
“Guess we’re not friends anymore.”
▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️
The sun had begun to set and the robots, resigned to the floor, indulged themselves with the luxury of dying beneath its beauty. Michael imagines Shiki’s face, probably scrunched up in despair and muscles contorted in ways his own wouldn’t allow. He reminisces about the first time Shiki declared he would make a hundred friends. The adventures they shared all throughout the planet, every nook and cranny memorized. All ponds fished on, and the mountains explored. How they made each corner of their confined world, a home.
He tilted his head towards the direction of the place, witness to all his merriment and ugliness. His house that was supposed to outlive him, disintegrated into dust and rubble. He feels–or rather–thinks he feels strangely melancholic about it. But there was no use overthinking things when the end is nearing. He just feels what he thinks.
All his life, like many other bots, Michael wished for a human heart. As mawkish as it sounds, this longing stems from something akin to an inferiority complex remaining suppressed in him like an unspoken secret almost all robots relate and are privy to.
And yet for the first time, he believed himself fortunate to just be. If only he knew it was going to make goodbyes impossibly painful… If only he knew it would engulf him with an insurmountable loneliness...
Then he would have never wished for a heart.

📝 My entry for Nalu Week this year is a Nalu edit that I'm proud of. It fits all this year's prompts or a lot of. Them pretty well 🎉 !Unfortunately, I couldn't post a chapter or fanfic in time for Nalu Week, so I'm sharing a TikTok instead. I'm hoping that I can post something that I've written or another Nalu and Fairytail- designated have been in the near future though
I'm still working on various projects for Nalu, Fairytail, and a possible Shicca Fic for Edens Zero. Life gets busy with other hobbies, responsibilities, job search friend ,and family time, but I still find moments to write fanfics, post new chapters when possible & edit l —sometimes with my beta's help when they're able . There's never enough time, but I promise I'm working hard on everything 😅.

You still didn’t answer my question. My question is why do you take it upon yourself to screenshot people’s posts and fanfic regarding NaLu when you claim to hate it? Why would you put time and energy into something you apparently hate? Are you gonna answer it or call me another name? I mean I call you names because you basically said I was a rapist for the fan art I posted.
Mostly to highlight how NaLu runs counter to every other romance in Fairy Tail (or hell, even Edens Zero - You ain’t seein’ that shit from Shicca, nosirreebob!). What I mean is, NaLu has depended on cheap fanservice to sail as a ship since the Grand Magic Games, and it’s only gotten worse since then. In fact, pre-timeskip NaLu is entirely unrecognizable from post-timeskip NaLu IMO. But more to the point, I wanted to highlight that it was kind of fucked up that NaLus could look past the fact that the artist made the deliberate choice to have Natsu’s head underneath Lucy’s dress while he was fixing her sock. It was an artistic decision that said to me that NaLus view their ship as less actual romance and more of an ecchi gag. I dunno, maybe I just expect boundaries to be respected in the supposedly official couple, apparently unlike NaLus. Especially when they’re respected in the other couples in the story.

Comfort
Shicca Week 2020
Day 1 - Day 3 - Day 4
Day 2: Prompt: Comfort
Rating: K+
Word Count: 1386
Genre: Romance/Humor
Shiki shuffled into the dark room and closed the door as silently as he could. He tiptoed towards the bed and managed to hit his knee against a piece of furniture and he grunts in pain. At the disturbance, Rebecca's eyes open groggily, "Hmm?" she stares the figure in front of her. "Shiki?" she calls out in recognition.
"Rebecca." Shiki replied back in a hushed tone, aware that Happy was still fast asleep beside her.
"Shiki, what's wrong?" she wakes up, feeling slightly worried.
"No- it's nothing. I'm sorry to wake you up-" he says guiltily.
"Why are you here?" she asked him, trying to gauge out his expression in the darkness. He hesitated and seemed reluctant to answer. "I-I couldn't sleep."
"What happened? Was it a bad dream?" Rebecca pressed. He was acting really weird, being all hesitant and quiet. "Answer me, Shiki." she questioned sternly.
"T-There's a bug in my room. " Shiki finally let out and whimpered sadly. He absolutely hated bugs of any kind. While he wasn't completely foreign to bugs back on Granbell, he made it a rule to avoid them.
Rebecca grumbles as she flops back into her bed, "Shiki! It's not that big of a deal!" she shoos him away. "Go back to your room, it won't do anything to you."
"Please Rebecca, let me sleep here!" Shiki pleads helplessly. "I can't sleep in there knowing that there is a bug infestation under my bed!" he shuddered comically, drawing his arms around himself.
Rebecca can't believe that they were having this conversation at this hour of the night. "Absolutely-" she glances in worry as Happy moves a little in sleep and then settles. She lowers her volume and hisses, "Absolutely not!"
"But Rebecca-!"
"No buts! Why don't you go to Weisz's room? I'm sure he won't mind sharing his room for a night." she remarks as softly and sternly as she could.
"I tried but he refused to open his door." Shiki grunts and pouts slightly like a child. "Please Rebecca? Only for tonight." he begs once again.
Rebecca feels like she's walking into a trap as she eyes his resigned and exhausted stature. And he was making that sad and insanely adorable puppy face, which always successfully melted her heart. She trusted him enough to be sure that he wouldn't try any underhand tricks and she knew about his terrible phobia of bugs. She would drive away the bug for him but she was simply too sleepy to wake up from the comfort of her bed. Furthermore, she does not want to come off as completely uncaring, even though he was the one guilt-tripping her right now.
She sighs as she relents and scoots over. "Okay, fine. Just for tonight."
She doesn't need to see his face to understand how delighted Shiki is, and she pushes the flood of second thoughts coming her way, the sleep already getting the better of her.
Shiki quickly slips into the bed like a happy kid and she warns him, poking him in the chest, "You stick to your side of the bed, alright? And don't touch me or try anything weird. Got it? Happy is right here beside me." she added menacingly. "And also no snoring!"
But Shiki is simply too overjoyed to care, "Ok-ay!" he accepts in a sing-song manner. They lay in silence, only the sound of breathing echoing softly and the ticking sound of a clock somewhere in room. Shiki closes his eyes and attempts to fall asleep but somehow, all the sleep in him had disappeared somewhere.
He tries to use a sleep technique Homura had told him about that helped her to sleep. He started counting backwards.
"100,99,98,96,93,92..."
Rebecca's scent was so good.
"91,80,no it was 89, 88..."
Her long, soft hair pricked his arm slightly.
"76...75,73,72,71..."
She was just an arm's length away from him.
"68,65...59,58,57"
Suddenly a light snore sounds in the room.
Shiki had to stop himself from bursting out laughing as he realizes that Rebecca was the one who was snoring.
He has already lost track of the counting and his thoughts drift over to the ash blonde girl sleeping beside him. He thinks of her kindness, her strength, bravery and intelligence, the times when she goes berserk against her enemies, her crazy love for food and dedication to her blog. The sheer confidence she carried herself. Shiki felt drawn to her day by day. He didn't know what he was feeling, but he knew that he wanted to be with her as much as possible, be it for an adventure in some corner of the cosmos or simply shooting a crazy video.
All his thoughts lose focus as he feels arms wrap around his torso. He jumps slightly on the contact and finds Rebecca clinging to him. "Rebecca?" he whispers, heart pounding in his chest. But she doesn't stir or reply. She was fast asleep.
Shiki sighs, keeping his hands off her as he promised. The last thing her wanted was to be sent back to his room. With the bit of the moonlight that poured through the blinds, he stares down at her features; the soft fluttering of her eyelashes, the way her nose scrunched, the curl of her lips. Gingerly, Shiki extends out a hand and pushes away a stray strand of hair that fell over her face, behind her ear.
He freezes as she stirs in her sleep. It seemed like she was seeing a dream. With bated breath, he waits and then she mutters, "Hmm... double cheese burst pizza... " She licks her lips.
Once again, Shiki struggled to stop himself from bursting out laughing at her.
Shaking his head, he closes his eyes and sleep finally comes back his way. Maybe it's because of how comfortable the bed is or how her scent relaxes him and how amazing her arms feel around him.
-x
Homura knocks lightly on Rebecca's door. "Good morning, Rebecca! Breakfast is ready!"
When she doesn't hear an answer, she pushes the button to open the automated door. She leaves the door open as she strides in. With the sunlight streaming in through the blinds, she sees a lump on the bed.
"Wake up, Rebecca. Everyone is waiting." She calls out as there is a movement.
"Hey, have you seen Shiki? Apparently, he's not in his room." Weisz stands at the doorway, still yawning. “I think he was knocking at my door last night. I was too tired to wake up.”
"I can't say I have." Homura replies and then turns to wake up Rebecca again. "Rebecca, we're going to arrive at Blue Garden soon. Hurry up."
Rebecca stirs beneath the blankets, "Five more minutes..." she mutters hoarsely.
Beside her, Happy pulls himself off the tangle of blankets. "Good morning, Weisz, Homura!" The android cat greets them cheerfully. "Rebecca is as usual, not a very morning person." he sighs shaking his head.
A mischievous grin works up on Weisz's face as he walks to the foot of her bed. "Becky~ wakey wakey!" He grabs the blanket and pulls it over, but nothing prepares them for the sight before them.
Homura, Weisz and Happy gawk as they stare, Shiki and Rebecca lying on the same bed pressed against each other, limbs tangled together.
After a moment, Rebecca grumbles and sits up drowsily. "Weisz!" She frowns at their expressions and the feeling of something clinging to her waist, "What is-" and then her eyes fall on Shiki's sleeping figure beside her, arms wrapped around her waist.
"Kyaa!" Rebecca pushes Shiki off the bed, and he falls on the floor with an 'oof'. "Wait a second! It's not what you think!" she splutters, blushing madly as Shiki shoots everyone a look of confusion, sleep still clouding his mind.
Homura recovers, a blush heating up her own cheeks, "I-Its fine, Rebecca. We're sorry for barging in! At your age it's fine to-"
Rebecca howls in embarrassment, "It's not that! Oh my God, it's not what it looks like, I swear!"
"Ugh, honestly I didn't know Shiki had it in him." Weisz turns away, running a hand through his hair, a blush rising up his neck too.
"That's not it!!!" Rebecca screeches loudly, in an ear splitting voice, driving away any possible signs of morning drowsiness among the Eden’s Zero crew effectively.
-x

Drabble Request: Shicca; Rebecca running on a treadmill while connected to a heart monitor as part of a stress test, the stress proving too much for Rebecca's heart, resulting in a massive heart attack/cardiac arrest and Shiki must revive her. Feel free to tweak this to your liking.
Sorry for taking so long to publish this. I hope you like the story :)
Request #2Fandom: Edens Zero | Pairing: SHICCA| One-shot |
Heart Attack
“Is it serious?” Rebecca asked worriedly after watching Sister’s serious countenance for long minutes.
“I don’t understand,” the android replied, shaking her head sideways “It seems like you have a lot of stress,” she continued, and then looked at her with a mocking smile “What could make someone like you worry so much”?“
Rebecca looked away and scratched her cheek as she thought about everything she had lived in those months as a crew member of the Edens Zero. It’s a curious thing that Sister asked that question, she knew very well the number of situations they went through since the ship started working again.
“You have to take more care of yourself. We don’t want you to have a heart attack here on the ship.” She warned her, closing the screens where the different results of her studies were displayed.
"A heart attack?” Exclaimed alarmed the B-Cuber “That sounds serious”
“Don’t get upset or you’ll have one right now.” Ivry laughed amusedly and from one of her drawers she pulled out a small rectangular device that she handed to the blonde.
“Put this on as if it is a watch. Go to the gym and get on one of the treadmills.” Rebecca took the object and placed it as she was indicated, the device turned on and its screen showed her the image of a heart beating “I will see you in half an hour ”
“Gym?” The girl asked puzzled “Do we have that?”
“Well of course,” Said the android smiling ” There are more rooms besides the dining room and the bathrooms, you know? ”
"I admit it, I didn’t explore the entire ship”
“I know where that is, Miss Rebecca” offered Pino, who had witnessed Rebecca’s entire study routine “I can guide you,”
“Thank you, Pino”
“By the way,” Sister intervened before the other two left. “Try not to talk or stress yourself while doing the exercise or the results will be altered.”
“Okay. Thanks, Sister ”
…
"It’s amazing,” Rebecca exclaimed when they entered the gym. Like everything in the Edens Zero, the training room was very well equipped with advanced and modern technology. Rebecca wondered if Weisz and Hermit were also investigating in that room.
“Rebecca!” She heard her name being called and was surprised to see Shiki on one of the stationary bikes. “Are you gonna do some exercise too?”
“I didn’t expect to find anyone here,” she said absently and smiled at her partner. “Sister sent me to do a study.”
The boy stopped pedaling and followed her around the room with a curious attitude. Rebecca approached the row of treadmills in front of the huge window that opened to a splendid view of the space. The girl admired the starry landscape, thinking it would be very relaxing to walk on those devices enjoying the extension of stars…
“What is that?” She diverted her attention from space and noticed that Shiki was too close, pointing at the gear tied to her wrist. For some reason, the boy’s sudden closeness made her heart jump and the object gave a short squeak.
“Sister gave it to me,” she replied, surprised by the sudden noise. “It’s to do some studies”
“Studies?” He asked, inclining his head. “What’s that?”
“Haven’t you had your routine examination?” She asked worriedly.
“Not that I remember” Shiki shrugged dismissing the issue “What do you have to do?”
Rebecca climbed on the treadmill and started to walk. The action was as relaxing as she had expected. On her wrist, the device began to collect the data by changing the heart diagram to one of an irregular wave that followed the rhythm of her heartbeats …
“I just have to walk” She answered the previous question and watched through the huge window, admiring the progression of the ship through space. If she ignored the gym environment, walking while watching the stars felt as if she were floating in the space surrounded by the huge Sakura cosmos.
“Do you know what would be fantastic?” Shiki’s voice distracted her again, Rebecca turned her gaze to her partner who was smiling immensely. Again the device emitted a high pitched sound, a little longer than the previous one.
“Master Shiki” Pino intervened shyly “Miss Rebecca can’t speak while doing the exercise”
“Uh?” Shiki watched the little android “Why not?”
“The results could be altered if she is stressed”
But Rebecca already felt somewhat stressed, or at least her heart seemed anxious. Pino explained to the Demon King the conditions Sister had given for the study, while she tried to control her suddenly rapid heartbeat.
“If she gets too stressed, she could have a heart attack,” Pino finished raising one of her little fingers to emphasize her last sentence. Shiki’s expression darkened and he turned his head to look at his friend. Rivers of tears began to leave his eyes and a shriek of anguish escaped his lips …
“Noooo! Don’t stress, Rebecca! “He whined outrageously. "I don’t want to lose my friend! ”
Rebecca smiled kindly, moved by her partner’s reaction. Seeing him so distraught by a possibility as remote as a heart attack seemed kind of tender.
She felt a pleasant warmth that spread across her chest, but before she could say anything to calm Shiki, that same warm feeling seemed to squeeze her heart.
A stabbing pain attacked her from the chest, a violent and unexpected oppression that caused her to lose control of her actions. She stopped walking, paralyzed by the affliction in her chest, the movement of the treadmill made her lose her balance and the last thing she knew was the sensation of falling through a deep dark hole…
…
Instinct kicked immediately and Shiki managed to catch her before Rebecca fell to the ground and hurt herself.
But his intuition did not help him at that moment, despair began to invade him, unsure of what to do to help his friend. Pino must have noticed his nervous breakdown because the little android acted quickly and the Demon King could not be more grateful for her presence at that moment…
“Master, I downloaded information about heart attacks,” the little robot said, sounding confident, but there was still some concern on her face. “You must lay Rebecca on the floor and we must apply CPR immediately.”
“CPR? What is that? ”He was still scared, his hands shaking and tears threatening to sprout, but Shiki knew it wasn’t time for that, he had to do CRP, CPR or whatever its name was.
“It’s a procedure,” the android replied simply and unbuttoned Rebecca’s shirt with a quick movement. “I am too little to do it, master. You must do it ”
“Just tell me what to do”
Pino explained patiently that he had to put his hands together on the girl’s chest and press quickly and hard repeatedly.
Shiki obeyed the instructions. He watched his friend’s face, hoping to see signs of conscience, but she remained unchanged since falling from the treadmill. He repeated the procedure, his despair increasing with each pressure that didn’t wake her up.
“You’re doing well,” the droid said, noticing the anguish that invaded him, but Shiki couldn’t calm down despite her words. Repeated pressures were depleting him and the lack of results made him desperate. Time seemed to pass slowly and quickly at unbearable vertigo.
“Help!” He finally shouted as he continued with the repetitions on Rebecca’s chest. “Pino, call the others, please,” he begged, his voice dyed in despair. “I need help”
Shiki needed the rest of his friends, he needed to have them there, helping Rebecca. He didn’t understand what was happening or what he was doing. The only thing Shiki knew at the moment was that he had his friend in trouble and he couldn’t help her.
Despair brought impotence and the Demon King was about to lose the battle against an invisible enemy he could not face with his Ether Gear. He stopped doing compressions and lowered his head to cradle it between her friend’s breasts.
“Shiki?” Rebecca’s weak voice made him raise his head in a swift movement. “What happened?”
“Rebecca!” He exclaimed joyfully and threw himself on her to hug her, bursting with happiness at seeing her awake.
“Master, you have to be more careful” He heard Pino say, but Shiki couldn’t help it. He had been so worried that his friend… Rebecca wouldn’t wake up.
“Hey! Don’t do that!” The girl complained when the Demon King sank his face between her breasts again, “Shiki! ” She started pushing him away from her, embarrassed by a position so intimate that didn’t seem to bother the boy at all.
"I was so worried,” he said, tears falling on his partner’s blue bra. “I didn’t know what to do.” Rebecca stopped pushing him. She remained still and tense for a few moments and then relaxed, embracing her partner, returning the affectionate gesture he gave her.
“I’m fine, Shiki,” she said kindly and he clung even more to her waist.
“When I said you shouldn’t stress…” Sister’s voice flooded the silent atmosphere of the gym. Shiki raised his head to see the android entering the room followed by Weisz and Homura “… I didn’t expect you would look for this kind of relaxation" Shiki noticed that Rebecca’s cheeks turned exaggeratedly red, the boy inclined his head uncertain of why she reacted like this “We must admit that it is a very effective method to combat stress”
Rebecca covered her chest by closing her shirt quickly. Weisz already had a perverted smile on his face and his eyes kept looking at the blonde girl’s shirt.
“I can also help you relax, Rebecca” He volunteered, but only received an elbow in the stomach, courtesy of Sister.
“It seems an interesting method,” Homura commented quietly, but everyone heard her perfectly.
“Miss Rebecca had a heart attack.” Pino informed Sister “Master Shiki helped her by applying CPR”
“Very good, Demon King” Congratulated the android nurse of the ship “I see you have proceeded efficiently” Sister brought her hands to her hips and smiled mockingly “You can be our honorary nurse”
“I want to be an honorary nurse too!” Weisz offered only to receive another nudge.
Rebecca removed the watch-shaped device from her wrist and handed it to Sister. The android looked at the object seriously and nodded.
“I will examine the study’s data,” she said and then looked discreetly at Shiki. “Meanwhile, you can continue with your own methods … I think they will be more effective.”
“Can you stop that? It is not what you believe! Nothing happened!”
While Sister and Weisz continued to tease Rebecca with their comments, Shiki watched his partner seriously. The fright he suffered didn’t let him relax with his companions, worry still tormented him. Staring at Rebecca, with his characteristic determination, the Demon King promised himself that he would protect his friend from all the threats that might affect her, both the enemies he has to face with his fists and any other condition that might exist.
He would be with her regardless of anything and be her unconditional protector.
Thanks for reading!

Shicca First Date
Rating: T
Summary: Rebecca had been talking to this man for about three months now and was eagerly waiting for him for their date...hopefully he doesn't disappoint her this time.
A/N: Yo guys! It's Shicca week and this is pretty late, but hopefully I get to get the other prompts finished by this Sunday!
□□
The restaurant was filled with bustling people, waiters coming in and out of the kitchen constantly and the decor very exquisite and fine. It was a restaurant that spelled out romance. Almost all the white linen covered tables were filled with couples, holding hands across the tables, some women giggling into their hands and some men puffed up with the chance of pleasing their women tonight.
Meanwhile all the lovey dovey scene was unfolding, a sandy blonde young woman sat alone at the center table, the only thing in her hand was not the hand of her late date, but a full glass of water. Her countenance wasn't one filled with happiness, but one filled with worry, and disappointment.
Rebecca sighed, feeling silly for waiting for her probably no show date, but she had hope that he would walk through the door any minute. The only thing that was probably contradicting her positive vibe was the fact that there was no call, no text, no nothing from her date to be.
She had been talking to the man for about 3 months now, in the first month it was just friendly, the in the second month there was flirting, small hand holding, and prolonged hugs. The only thing was that while the flirting and the sparks were obviously there, there was no talk about actually starting to be a couple.
The month after that however was when she realized that she did want a real and sure thing and mentioned that to her admirer. He agreed, saying he wanted the same thing as her. Setting up a date however was very difficult.
Often he would cancel last minute, the late night texts were becoming less frequent and he seemed to be avoiding her phone calls any way he could. She thought it was her mind playing tricks on her, but every day she felt less secure about herself, wondering that maybe he did lose interest. That is until she walked up to him and demanded to know what was going on, and if he was even still interested in her. He assured her that yes he was, and was actually thinking of calling her that morning.
He was the one that set up this date and this time, there was no text or phone call about him running late. An hour had already past.
She still had hope. He was very sweet, and he seemed kind...but-
Rebecca heard footsteps coming her way and she looked up rather quickly, sat up a little straighter and pushed back a loose curled strand of hair behind her ear. Her face fell when she realized that it was just the waiter. His eyes seemed sympathetic and she felt embarrassed by her obvious eagerness.
"Miss...perhaps now would be a good time to order?" He hesitantly took his notepad out, not even bothering to pull out his black pen already knowing her answer. She shook her head.
"I'm still...waiting. He's just running a little late." He nodded, smiled sympathetically, and walked away from her table. She sighed, upset that her date was totally testing her patience and was about to stand up to walk away after all until she heard someone coming her way. She didn't bother to look at whoever it was, most certainly it was not him.
"Damn, Becca. Still here by yourself?" Rebecca quickly looked up, her bluebell eyes falling straight onto the raven haired man standing in front of her table.
"Shiki!" She exclaimed, shocked that her best friend was here. She heard some murmurs and looked around, seeing that her loud shrill voice annoyed some of the couples around. She cleared her throat, feeling her face flush. "W-What on earth are you doing here?" She whispered.
Shiki plopped himself at the open seat in front of her, his arms crossed against his torso. She noticed how he was still wearing his mechanics suit, his red jacket over the grimy clothes. She wondered how on earth anyone let him in looking like that, but Shiki didn't really care about that sort of thing. He probably snuck by the hostess at the front.
"I've actually been waiting around the block. Everytime I passed by the window you were still alone...aren't you on a date?" Rebecca gaped at him. Embarrassed at his admittance and for seeing that she had been alone for more than an hour already.
"H-He's running late." Her voice wobbled, not believing even herself in that moment. Shiki raised his eyebrow.
"Wow. Again? This guy can't even care enough to show up on time?"
"He's was probably stuck on something. You know how hard he is on studying and interning. Most likely caught up in that." Her finger traced onto the intricate designs on the tablecloth, not daring to meet Shiki's eyes. She knew he would never judge her, but he knew enough about the guy to probably guess what was going on.
It was silent for a moment, Rebecca continuing to trace over the pattern on the tablecloth, she dared a peek into Shiki's eyes and felt her heart speed up a little at his serious face. His midnight eyes staring straight into her bluebell ones.
"I don't think he's gonna come." Rebecca's shoulders slumped, her mouth turned down more than before.
Hearing someone come their way, Rebecca turned her eyes away from the raven haired man only to fall upon the same waiter. He seemed a little surprised at the way Shiki was dressed, but quickly took out his notepad and pen, smiling nonetheless.
"I see that your date was a little occupied after all." Rebecca blinked back at his statement, her mind reeling. She then felt her face start to heat up realizing that the waiter thought that Shiki was the man she was meeting.
"O-Oh no! You see-"
"Yup! That would be me!" The woman snapped her head back to Shiki, her eyes wide with disbelief and her face rivaling a tomato. "Name's Shiki!" He grinned, holding his hand out to the waiter. Rebecca saw how the waiter hesitated to shake his hand because of the obvious black smears on it. "Oh!" Shiki exclaimed quickly rubbing it against his clothed leg then holding it out once more. The wiping didn't help his case, but he seemed pleased with it. The waiter chuckled slightly then slowly shook Shiki's hand.
"I am Daniel. I will be your waiter tonight." Daniel smiled. Shiki grinned.
"Awesome!" The bubbly man exclaimed. Rebecca then felt her stomach growl loudly, causing her to grab the attention of the two men. The woman smiled, embarrassed, her body scooting down a little on the seat as Shiki laughed. The waiter seemed amused.
"Hey, Daniel? Do you happen to have any burgers here? We're starving." The mechanic inquired happily. The waiter nodded and was about to open his mouth to ask which kind of burger until Shiki cut in. "I'll get whatever she's having. Rebecca always get picks the best in burger joints."
"This isn't a burger joint, Shiki." Rebecca corrected. Shiki shrugged.
"Well they have burgers and stuff." Rebecca sighed, already knowing it was really no use in trying to tell Shiki that this was a fancy restaurant.
"I'll have the Curry Burger and I would like the meat medium rare please." Rebecca smiled, the waiter nodded in response, jotting down her and Shiki's order quickly.
"It'll be on it's way. I'll take your menus. Would you like anything to drink?"
"A lemonade, please." Rebecca said.
"And I'll have a coke, thanks." Shiki added in. The waiter smiled, grabbed their menus and quickly took off to the kitchen. Shiki slouched in his seat, rubbing his stomach. "Man, I'm hungry. Hope it doesn't take long."
"...You know. You could've grabbed a bite to eat instead of wandering around the street." The woman stated. "And you didn't have to lie to the waiter."
"Daniel." Shiki cut in.
"You didn't have to lie to Daniel." Rebecca crossed her arms. Shiki's face turned serious once again, causing her to lose her focus a little.
"I didn't lie. It's a date." He stated, his voice deep. Rebecca gaped again, then broke out of her stupor.
"Shiki. I don't want a date out of pity-" she started, displeased.
"Nah. It's not like that. Promise. I've actually wanted to do this with you -- and you're looking like at me funny again. Flies can literally fly into you mouth right now." Rebecca snapped her open mouth shut. She could feel her face burning at his admittance and she knew that he was telling the truth. Shiki was always honest with whatever he said.
"Y-You have? Why didn't you say anything?" She asked, curious. Shiki shrugged then looked away, his eyes annoyed.
"Well. You were all hung up on that no good guy. But since he ain't coming and you don't have a boyfriend, figured I'd just come out and say it now." He scratched his head, face a little flushed. "You're really awesome, Bec...and if that guy can't see that then it's his loss. He doesn't deserve you." Rebecca's heart only beated faster with every word that Shiki spoke. He was a very down to earth person and was always honest in what he felt. She could always trust in him to be true.
"How long did you feel this way for?" She whispered. Shiki shrugged.
"First time we met, actually."
"...Really?"
"Well, yeah. But of course I wanted to be your friend! I'm not gonna be your friend just for that!" Shiki stammered. Rebecca grabbed his hand from across the table, silencing him.
"I get it. I trust you, Shiki. I know you're not gonna do things just to get something in return." The woman smiled softly, pleased that he relaxed under her touch. She felt him return the touch, holding her hand as well. Shiki's hand felt warm and he stared at their locked hands in thought.
"I know I said this was a date without asking you...If you don't want this to be--"
"It's our first date." Rebecca grinned. Shiki blinked back in surprise.
"R-Really?" His voice cracked, then he cleared his throat. "You're not doing this just to be nice right?"
"Of course not. I want this to be our first date, Shiki." She tightened her hold on his hand, trying to convey how truthful she was being about it. The man stared into her eyes, then nodded grinning.
"ALRIGHT!" he shouted, making everyone turn their heads their way again. Rebecca shrinked a little, but laughed at his enthusiasm.
"Ah, sir...I'm gonna ask that you quiet down a little." One of the waiters passing by said.
"Huh? Was I really that loud?"
●●●
Their first date continued, their conversation only seeming to be just like always. Rebecca always felt relaxed with Shiki, glad that he was there to lift up her night. Their food eventually came and it was as delicious as it seemed on the menu. Rebecca was in heaven and Shiki enjoyed the meal as well, pleased to see her being happy and humming as she ate her meal.
The night continued, their laughter and their personalities brightening up their night. After their little argument about who was paying what ("What?! No Shiki this is a lot for only two! I'll pay for it!" "Come on, Bec! It's not a big deal!), then deciding to split the bill and give a tip to Daniel, their waiter, they both decided to take a stroll down the old park where they first met in high school.
Shiki parked his blue 1997 Chevrolet pick up, stepped out, then opened the passenger door for Rebecca.
"After you, Milady." He grinned, bowing and holding out his hand. Rebecca giggled and played along, placing her small one in his.
"Why thank you, kind Sir." Shiki's smile only brightened more at her response. They both didn't let go after that.
The stars we dimmed by the light pollution of the city, but Shiki was still able to tell which constellation was what, happily showing them to the woman. His excitement about stars and space in general was always so passionate and Rebecca knew that one day he would be able to reach the stars like he said he wanted. Shiki was always so confident and positive. There was no doubt in her mind that he would reach his dreams.
After pushing each other on the swings, lounging and talking on the park bench, and Shiki trying to go down the small slide, they decided that it was getting late into the night and Rebecca needed to be home to rest up for her morning classes. They hopped into the pick up truck and Shiki headed towards her apartment.
The raven haired man parked his pick, opened the door for the woman and helped her out of the truck, held her hand and walked with her to the apartment. Rebecca wished the night never ended. It was always like that with Shiki. He was just really fun and comfortable to be around and always made her laugh. At her door, Shiki let go of her hand, causing Rebecca to miss his warmth.
"That was a fun first date." Shiki smiled, blushing a little. Rebecca nodded in agreement.
"It was. I'm glad that I spent it with you." Rebecca stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing her ear against his chest. She smiled when she heard his heart racing, feeling hers beat in time with it. "Thank you, Shiki." She felt his arms wrap around her body in return, tightening the embrace.
"I wanted to have this date with you remember? I'm glad you enjoyed it, Bec." He pulled away, his hands dropping from her body and Rebecca stepped back. "Goodnight! I'll see you tomorrow at school."
"Yeah. Just don't be late for class alright? You're always sleeping in. Surprised they haven't dropped you." Rebecca scoffed. Shiki chuckled.
"You know she's never gonna drop me. Ha Ha! But -- uh -- yeah. I'm not gonna show up late...she's my grandpa's old friend, but -- uh -- yeah. She sort of told me to not show up late anymore." He nervously laughed.
"She scolded you didn't she?" Rebecca smirked.
"She's scary when she's upset! Okay?!" He defended. Rebecca laughed in response. "It's true!"
"Okay, okay. I believe you. Don't worry." The man only pouted and crossed his arms. Rebecca turned to her door and got out her keys from her little white purse, unlocked her door, then stepped inside. "Well, goodnight, Shiki. I'll see you tomorrow." Shiki smiled and waved, then started walking towards his car. As soon as he turned his back towards her, Rebecca closed her door. As soon as her door shut Happy pranced towards her, rubbing his furry, feline body against her, purring.
"Aw! Hi, Happy. Did you miss me, boy?" She babied. Happy only meowed in response. After placing her keys and purse onto the little vanity by her door, she gently picked up her Russian blue cat and held him against her body, her phone still in her hand. After placing Happy onto her bed, she laid down and unlocked her phone, seeing a message in her notifications. She quickly opened it, thinking that maybe the guy did text her only to find that it was Shiki's message, which did not disappoint her. She smiled as she read it
Hope you rest well, Bec!
Rebecca sighed happily and replied.
You as well, Shiki!
●●●
Hope you're having a good morning <3
Rebecca read that the following morning, scoffing. If he thought she was gonna answer him he had another thing coming. She wasn’t even sure if she was even going to confront him today.
She found herself being the one late to her first class. Luckily her professor didn't give her any trouble since this was her first time being late. The two first morning classes went by smoothly and seemingly quick, and already she was feeling a little nervous for her next one.
The man she was supposed to have met with last night was taking that course with her.
Rebecca walked in the classroom, somewhat relieved and disappointed that he didn't show. She didn't really feel like confronting him anyway.
Unless that's what she thought until after class. She walked by the courtyard and saw him sitting on a bench that was slightly concealed by the bushes. Curious she walked closer to him finding that he was not alone.
Another woman was with him. Rebecca noticed that it was the girl she and he were acquainted with in the same class. They were holding hands, talking and laughing together. Rebecca wondered if the girl knew about their "mutual affection" at all. All Rebecca knew was that either way, she had to talk to him anyway. He made her think he was all fine with her and then suddenly to find him like this?
She walked up to them, finding that as soon as she got closer, he let go of the girls hand rather quickly, eyes wide and causing the girl next to him stare at him in confusion.
"Hey, Rebecca!" He smiled. Rebecca wanted to laugh, but held herself.
"Missed you last night...But I'm glad you didn't show up for our date." He looked at her, seemingly dumbfounded.
"What is she talking about?" The girl next to him asked. He seemed to stutter, but the girl only seemed to get more upset after his long silence.
"I'm guessing you didn't know about our mutual thing going on. But it's fine. It was over last night." She then faced the man again. "Hope you're happy." Rebecca stated. She walked away from the couple, not realizing and exactly caring that she was walking towards the science building and entered into it. She walked into the women's restroom, glad that that there was no one, and breathed. She breathed steadily and made sure to count, slowing it until it was at a regular pace. After she was done, she walked out of the bathroom and was surprised to find a hall full of students walking into their next class. She started walking to her own until she bumped into a broad chest. She felt hands on her shoulders.
"Whoa, Rebecca. What's the hurry?" A deep voice asked. She looked up to find Weisz's blue eyes and noticed a figure standing behind him. Shiki. Rebecca shook out of Weisz's hold.
"Just heading to our class. I don't want to be late." Rebecca answered. Weisz smirked.
"Well, class begins in like seven minutes. You've got plenty of time." The blonde man chuckled. Rebecca's frown deepened, and walked past him. She wasn’t in the mood if Weisz felt like flirting with her today.
"Whoa what did I say?!" Weisz exclaimed. Rebecca ignored him, but made the mistake of meeting Shiki's eyes staring right at her face. Rebecca's large steps faltered, almost tripping on her feet until Shiki grabbed her arm to help her.
"Hey, Bec. You okay?" Shiki whispered. Rebecca saw that her vision was misting over, and she tightened her throat to hold it in. She shrugged.
"I'm fine."
Shiki didn't seem to buy it and held her hand, leading her away from the crowd.
"Where are you two going!?" Weisz yelled, confused.
Shiki and her walked out of the building, hands still clasped as he lead her to the back where no one was around to over hear them.
"What's going on?" Shiki asked. "You don't seem okay." Rebecca sighed. She already knew Shiki had a crush on her now, so she wouldn't know how he would react to whatever she was holding in, but she did trust him.
"You know that guy I was supposed to meet with last night?" Shiki nodded. "Well guess who found him cozying it up with another girl?" Her voice cracked and she felt her tears run down her face. She gave a wet chuckle then frowned. After a moment of silence she curiously peeked into Shiki's eyes and saw anger on his face.
"That fucking asshole! What the fuck?! Where did you find him?" He looked around as he said this
"Whoa! Hey Shiki!" She called, resting her hands on his cheeks, making him look at her. "It's done."
"But he still-"
"I know...I know...It's just not worth it." She sighed, letting go of Shiki. She felt arms wrap around her, finding herself in his embrace. Rebecca sighed, wrapping her arms around him as well.
"Are you going to be okay?"
"Yeah. Just upset you know. It'll pass though. It's not worth it." She assures. Shiki sighed and tightened his hold.
"Just...I'm here for you. Okay?" Rebecca nodded against his shoulder, then pulled away.
"Still. I'm glad he didn't show up though. It was a great night that I got to spend with you." The girl smiled. "You're a great date." Shiki beamed at that.
"Really?" He asked. Rebecca giggled and nodded. "Awesome! Can't wait to go on more with you!...That is if it's alright with you."
"Definitely. I loved it. I'm sure more dates with you will be amazing." her smile softened. She deserved happiness and Shiki was such a wonderful man to be around. And truth be told she did have a little crush on him since last night, she scrunched her face in thought. No. She had a crush on him before, she didn't want to admit it to herself, but since meeting that guy she thought she had moved on from Shiki after all. She would never really know right now however. And even if he didn’t like her like that, she knew with just his friendship, she’d be just as satisfied. She broke out of her stupor when Shiki pushed back a strand of curled hair behind her ear softly, causing Rebecca to blush intensely.
"Well you're amazing, Rebecca. That guy's lost for not seeing it. Now I get to have you." Shiki grinned. The girl felt her heart pound hard in her chest and buried her face against Shiki's chest.
"I-I guess you do." She stammered. She felt Shiki tightened his hold on her, and she knew that she'd be more than okay.

Gift
Shicca Week 2020
Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3
Day 4: Prompt: Gifts
Rating: K+
Word Count: 2533
Genre: Romance/Humor
"Why don't you kiss Shiki?"
As soon as the question had slipped out, Rebecca froze, her mouth dropping open and all the blood rushed to her face at once as she blushed a deep scarlet. There is a short circuit in her mind as she tries to place the thought in her mind. Her mind refuses to comprehend where this came from.
The girls of the Eden's Zero crew were currently seated in Rebecca's bedroom, having a girl's night out, playing games and chatting away. While initially it was just a fun time relaxing with the crew after dinner, occasionally, they would force Weisz Shiki, Happy and Moscoy (to their great reluctance) to have a boy's night, just so that the girls could have some girly time. Today had been one of those nights, and they were playing a card game when the topic shifted to Shiki's birthday, which was tomorrow. The team had been planning a party for him secretly under the wraps, to surprise him the next evening, as he himself didn't seem to remember his birthday.
Rebecca had been pondering about what she could gift Shiki. She was thinking of dropping by Blue Garden before the party and purchasing a new pair of headphones or the latest game on the market. She even considered making a handmade gift by following one of the DIY B-cubers out there, but decided otherwise, taking into account her lack of creativity and patience.
But then, Homura declared that she had bought him headphones too, while Hermit had already downloaded a new video game for him. Everyone seemed to be ready with their gifts for Shiki and Rebecca was quickly running out of options and ideas.
That's when Hermit made the suggestion.
"That's a good idea." Homura nodded to the twin-tailed android, and placed another card on the pile.
"Perfect, even." Hermit adds, bobbing her head solemnly. Everyone seemed perfectly nonchalant about the whole idea except Rebecca.
Rebecca shook her head fervently, "How exactly is that a good idea?"
The Four Shining Stars of the Eden's Zero plus Pino, look up at her in unison, their expressions indiscernible. Feeling self-conscious, Rebecca blurted nervously, "Wh-What is it? Why are you all looking at me like that?"
All at once, they turned away, and none of them spoke.
"What was that about?" Rebecca furrowed her eyebrows quizzically.
"Well, we thought you already knew about it." Hermit makes a dull expression, placing the next card.
"Huh? Know about what?" Rebecca pushes further.
"That you have a crush on Master Shiki." Pino answers and plays her turn.
There is silence in the room and then Rebecca bursts out like a volcano, "What did you say?!" She blushes tenfold, "Wh-Where did you get such an idea!?"
Homura eyes Rebecca, "We thought it was really obvious."
"O-obvious?" Rebecca falls short of words upon this revelation.
"Yeah, frustratingly obvious," Sister huffed, placing her card on the pile.
"B-But I don't-" Rebecca puts down her cards as she squirms uncomfortably.
"Well, you do like him, don't you?" Hermit asks, and smiles as she placed her card, just 2 cards away from winning the game.
Rebecca sighed, "I do like him... but... " she fingers the playing cards, deep in thought.
Of course she liked him. How could anyone not like him? He was extremely cute and funny and always went out of his way to help people. He was so honest and kind, with the ability to see good in everyone and everything. He always managed to turn around any situation, and never gave up on his friends.
"Well?" the Eden's Zero crew was staring at her.
"I don't know." Rebecca concluded, her eyes downcast, "I don't understand anything about romance, okay? I don't even know what Shiki feels about me."
Sure, Shiki was kind to her, and called her a friend. But she couldn't deny that there were moments some where he made her so special, his actions making her heart flutter every now and then. She was so grateful to him, always there for her; rushing to save her like when she had been kidnapped and sent to Guilst or when she had been captured by Drakken Joe; comfort her whenever she felt down, and made her feel like herself. Even his few words and actions managed to make her feel good.
"While it's true that you don't know what Shiki feels about you," Witch finally breaks her silence as she picks out a card from her pile and places it before them, "You do know about your own feelings. And when you do, you should act on them before you regret it." She looks up at Rebecca, smiling softly, "Your turn."
And before she realized it, she couldn't remember what it was like before Shiki tumbled into her life. She couldn't even think about the future without his stupid and radiant smiling face.
"I detect an intense pulse rate." Pino reports, "Miss Rebecca, are you okay?"
"I'm...fine" Rebecca trails, her lips curling into a smile as she thinks of Shiki.
"Well, will you take up the suggestion then?" Sister leans in raising a brow.
Rebecca finds herself blushing again, "It’s not like I'm not against it or anything... "
"Well hurry up then." Before she knows it, the Four Shining Stars are pulling her up on her feet and shoving her towards the door. "Wh-What?" Rebecca yells in disbelief.
"You can't keep him waiting!" Homura says seriously.
"His birthday is tomorrow! Why now?" Rebecca struggles against their strength.
"Our plan requires-" Pino is cut off as Hermit quickly covers the little bot's mouth. "It's just twenty minutes to twelve o'clock, so it's the same." Hermit insisted while she throws a look at Pino.
"Shiki's in the flight deck, right now." Witch informs her, aware of every presence on the ship.
"Wait a moment-" Rebecca protests as the shove her out of the room.
"Good luck!" they chant at once and close the door.
Rebecca stands there by herself in the corridor of the sleeping quarters. What did she get herself into?

"So let me get this straight," Shiki crosses his arms around his chest as he ponders, "You can't kiss friends?"
Weisz sighes maybe for the millionth time as he ruffles his head in frustration. He knew it was a bad idea when they started watching a sci-fi movie that suddenly took a romantic turn with a subplot between the two leads. And with Shiki's unending curiosity, he couldn't even enjoy the movie in peace. He was left with schooling the boy, about things Weisz certainly did not want to discuss with, especially with a guy. "Technically you can. But there's a different type of kiss for that."
"There are different types of kisses?" Shiki looked even more confused than ever.
"Yes, Shiki." Weisz set down the tub of popcorn. "Now, can we continue the movie, please?"
"What kind of kisses? Can you show them?" Shiki looked at Weisz eagerly with big eyes and leaned towards him.
"Good grief." Happy lets out a laugh at Shiki's inquisitiveness and Weisz's growing discomfort.
"No, you idiot!" Weisz grunted as he scoots away, his cheeks heating up in embarrassment, "Get away!"
Shiki frowns deeply, "Why not?"
"Because-" Weisz looks away, "Because you kiss only people you like, okay?" he answers bashfully and hopes this answer satisfies him.
"People you like?" Shiki tilts his head in thought. Not even a moment passed as Shiki declares, "But I like you, Weisz! You're my friend! Don't you like me Weisz?" Shiki makes a happy, innocent face as Weisz face palms. He feels as though he will age a hundred years and the curiosity of this boy alone was going to cause all this hair to turn grey and fall, just like his older counterpart.
He ignores his last question and tries to get it through his thick, clueless head, "You can't just kiss everyone, thwomp-boy. It has to be a person you like...rather, a person you love mutually. A person who's special to you."
"Eh... " Shiki trails off again. "But Weisz-"
"Alright I'm out! I'm off to bed." Weisz declares before Shiki can ask anything more.
"What about the movie?" Happy asks and Weisz waves his hand dismissively, "Lost interest in it already."
Shiki watches him leave and then taps his chin in thought. He sighs and then turns off the projector.
"Don't over think it so much, Shiki." Happy's cheerful voice breaks the silence. "It's not that complicated, I'm sure."
Moscoy nods in agreement, "Nothing to worry, Moscoy!"
Shiki grins at the two android bots, "Thanks!"
"I guess it's time we go to bed too." Happy rubs his eyes tiredly. "Rebecca and the others must have winded up by now too." Happy jumps off the sofa and proceeds to leave. Before they take their leave, he asks, "Aren't you coming along, Shiki?"
"Nah, you go ahead." Shiki waves, still grinning.
"Alright, good night!" they chant as they leave.
Rebecca walks in a few minutes later, and watches as Shiki is silently gazing outside the window, into the Sakura cosmos. At the sound of her soft footsteps, Shiki turns to look. "Rebecca!" he chirps happily. "You're still awake?"
"Yeah..." Rebecca smiles nervously. He eagerly pats the space beside him, urging her to sit. She chews her bottom lip nervously and sits beside him on the sofa overlooking the galaxy.
Ugh, curse the Four Stars of Eden to make her feel so overly self-conscious.
"Did you guys have fun?" Shiki asks Rebecca, his face wrinkling cutely as he smiled.
Rebecca was having a hard time controlling her erratic heartbeat, "Uh-huh." she answered. She wants to look away, but she is unable to, mesmerized by the warmth and gentleness in his expression.
"What did you do?" Shiki inquires giving her his full attention, making her half wish that he wouldn't look at her so intensely.
"Um, nothing. We just played some games... And chatted a bit." she replied curtly.
"I see." she breathes in relief as he turns to observe the galaxy spread before them. They are engulfed in silence, except for the incessant pounding in her ears. She wills herself to calm down. This was just Shiki, her best friend. She didn't have to worry about anything.
Her heart almost leaps out of her chest as Shiki abruptly throws her a question, "Say Rebecca, have you kissed anyone before?"
"What?" Rebecca splutters, wondering if she heard him correctly. "Wh-Why would you ask that?"
Shiki scratches his head, "Well, it's just... Weisz was saying that you kiss only special people... " he trails off, suddenly he notices that his palms are a bit sweaty, and his heart pounds weirdly.
Rebecca urges him to continue, "And..?"
"And I was wondering, how do you know who is that special someone?" Shiki blurts out and then exhales deeply, running a hand through his hair.
Besides his serious expression, Rebecca finds herself giggling. Shiki looks at her and blushes self- consciously, "Why are you laughing?" he pouts.
"Sorry-its just...you looked kind of funny." And adorable, she added in her head.
As the room falls silent once again, Shiki mutters again, "Well?"
Rebecca swallows deeply, wondering how she could answer his question. "Well, somewhere in the depths of your heart, you just know, you know." she smiles softly, fixing her gaze at their reflection on the glass of the window, aware that his eyes are fixed on her. "They make you happy and comfortable. They bring out the best in you, support you and... "
"And?" Shiki asks eagerly.
She pushes her face to look at him, "And then one day, you realize that you can't imagine your life without them." she finishes, her voice reduced to a soft whisper.
Shiki's pulse quickens a bit at the tender look on her face and his stomach drops a little. With the glow of the stars on her face, those gentle sapphire eyes shining, she looked so heavenly. What had gotten over him? He didn't remember feeling so... nervous...so jittery around Rebecca.
He quickly looks away, back at the window, staring at the scattered stars. "I-I see." he replies shortly.
They gaze upon the universe together, the big world before them, so many things yet to be discovered, infinite possibilities, adventures waiting to be unraveled by them, so many friends yet to make. But Shiki was happy enough that Rebecca was with him, here, right now by his side.
He smiles as he spots a shooting star far away, or perhaps that was a dragon? It didn't stop a wide grin from spreading in his face, "Look!" he points excitedly. "Doesn't it look so pretty?"
Just then, the clock struck twelve with a chime.
"Rebecca?" Shiki turned to look at her. His eyes widened as Rebecca grabbed his face and pressed her lips against his. She pulls back before he can react, her face is adorned with a pink blush and a little grin, "Happy Birthday, Shiki."
Shiki blinks in realization and before they know it, he pulls her in his arms and they kiss again, a bit sloppily, their hands pulling at each other's hairs, trying to deepen the kiss. When they pull back, they blush awkwardly but with a look at their messy hairs, they burst out laughing.
"I think that kiss needs some work." Rebecca giggles softly.
"I think so too." Shiki grins sheepishly. "We have a lot of time to fix that." He drapes an arm around her shoulder and pulls her close.
Her cheeks turn red again and she wraps herself around his torso in a hug, pressing her ear to his chest. "You're right." she closes her eyes and hears his heartbeat, relishing in his warmth.
"Was that my birthday gift?" Shiki asks as his other hand reaches out to hers.
Rebecca nods shyly, "Yes...Are you happy?"
"Of course I'm happy!" Shiki answered in a heartbeat and Rebecca finds her cheeks heating up again. "I had forgotten that it was my birthday, though..." he trails off and Rebecca stifles a chuckle, excited for him for the things they had planned for him tomorrow.
"Rebecca?" He calls her name.
"Hm?" she hums, trying to imagine his reaction to the surprise party.
His fingers trace patterns on the back of her hand, "Since it's my birthday, can I ask for one more thing?"
"What is it?" she smiles against his chest.
"Can you wear that super sheer maid outfit-" Before Shiki can complete, Rebecca's fist meets his jaw immediately as she yells, "In your dreams, you pervert!"
She crosses her arms and turns her head in annoyance, as she fumes, "Hmph. You totally ruined that moment!"
Shiki nurses his jaw and still manages to chuckle, "Rebecca-"
"I don't wanna hear it!" She huffs in irritation.
Outside the room, the Eden's Zero crew stands with their ears pressed to the slightly ajar door.
"That idiot...." Weisz shakes his head and chuckles.
"I sense lust." Pino reports nonchalantly.
The Four Shining Stars fist bump each other, "Mission successful, you guys." Hermit smirks in victory.
"Was it really successful, Moscoy?" Moscoy mutters uncertainly.
Happy shakes his head with a smile, "Good grief!"

A/n: because lets admit it, the whole of the eden’s zero crew is definitely shipping the two of them already :D I love the idea of the Four Shining stars playing match-maker xD
This one is the longest of all the one-shots I’ve submitted before. I really had a lot of fun putting all the characters in this story. Weisz is definitely fun to write. I want to write a story with him soon.

Storm
Rating: T
Pairing: Shicca
Summary: Rebecca reflects after Shiki risks his life to save her. Shicca drabble.
Song: Storm - Dahlia Sleeps
-x-
Cold wasn’t something Rebecca associated with Shiki. At least not personality wise. Many times, he’d huddle close complaining the ship was too cold. She didn’t know if it was an excuse to be close or if it’s a genuine complaint. A bit of both seemed logical.
Drip. Drip.
Not even the healing warmth of the bath elicited a response. Black hair clung to his face, pudgy cheeks retaining a boyish charm to his transitioning appearance. Shiki is a boy becoming a man, the adventurer, the unlikely warrior. Sighing, Rebecca shifted the dead weight in her arms, allowing his ear to rest against her chest. If anything could wake him it would be the thumping of her heart. Shivers swept across her skin. Saturated clothes didn’t help the chill settling in her bones. A hollow laugh escaping her cracked lips Rebecca couldn’t help but feel the situation was bittersweet. She had met someone else other than Happy who believed in her.
Her.
Rebecca the street rat, the rejected, the fuck up.
It’s why she couldn’t stand people treating Shiki like trash. Laughing at his optimism, at his lust for adventure and life. An innocence she envied and the same longing she had wished for since her days on the streets. She never wanted to search through dustbins because of aching muscles and her stomach churning with hunger. The kind of desperation that eroded her spirit each day.
Rebecca knew nothing came for free. A survivor fought for every scrap. Life had never shown her anything different until Shiki.
Drip. Drip.
Blank eyes stared up at the stars, eyelids drooping. Shiki had pushed himself beyond his limits to save her. His ether gear glowing on black skin, it never receded after the battle. He seemed to be in a trance, not responding to anyone, including a snarky remark from Weisz.
Shiki protected her without question or thought. It bothered her because she wasn’t sure where his devotion came from. Could she trust him? It wasn’t guaranteed he’d stick around. How could someone so kind, optimistic and loving want to be her friend? Maybe he’d realise she was a fascination. Simply the first human he’d ever met.
No one had truly accepted her.
Deep down, Rebecca admittedly wanted him to stay in her life. The man who’d welcomed her dreams and aspirations without question, even encouraging a wish for more than stardom. Shiki believed she could stand in the centre of the Galaxy, with Mother herself.
Did she dare to believe in him?
“Afterall, you’re not here to be my friend now.” She whispered, wondering whether the stars would answer her prayers. Shiki wouldn’t be the second friend who died in her arms. She’d force him to wake up and make him play back to back FPS games so she could shoot his ass.
“Do humans…” Gasping, Rebecca snapped out of rumination and focused on the man resting against her. His gaze directed down her top as he spoke. “…usually mumble to themselves?”
Teeth grinding, she gripped his arm and unceremoniously flipped him into the water.
“Yes. When we mumble it’s about how you’re an I-D-I-O-T.” He wouldn’t be finding out today that despite his immaturity, she didn’t mind - as long as he stayed by her side. She didn’t want to lose another friend.

I haven’t written anything for a while so I feel I’d do this to get into the swing of things. I heard this song and thought of Shicca, so why not write my first little fic for them. Sorry for any mistakes, I’ll look over it later. Too tired right now :D
Dedicated to @brokenangelwings83 because she always supports my fanfic writing attempts. She’s a star xxx
