everyone knows Junji Ito, for good reason. do you have any favorite horror manga authors who aren't him?

Yes omg! As much as I adore Junji Ito and he rightfully gets a lot of attention, I wish some lesser-known horror mangaka got more attention.

I'd say my favorite non-Junji Ito horror mangaka is Sachiko Uguisu! Her style is gorgeous and her stories are so fun and unique. I highly recommend Shibito no Koe wo Kiku ga Yoi ("You Will Hear The Voices of the Dead") as well as her oneshot manga.

I also really like Kanako Inuki. Unfortunately much of her work isn't available in English, but there's still quite a lot you can read. I like Presents and Wish Fulfillment a lot.

Ahh, does Matsuri Akino count? I think she does. She's the creator of the Petshop of Horror series and her art style is sooooo beautiful!

Welcome to my blog and allow me to introduce myself.

My names Tomie but I try to go by the handle Tomiegotchi on most things.

I’m 29, asian canadian (1/4 Japanese 1/4 Okinawan) and use She/Her/They/Them pronouns. I live with my partner (They/Them) and our two cats. (Leonard & Phoebe)

I wanted to create a blog for myself where I could showcase my various creative projects and write about whatever media I’m currently into; instead of the random mess of reblogs my current main is. Im hoping having a separate blog will motivate me to do more than just lurk.

I dabbling in a bunch of different creative outlets for comics to music but at the moment I’m trying to focus on learning and developing in Picotron.

As for media I’m interested in here’s a few different things into.

Alternative music. I absolutely love the genres of Shoegaze, Dreampop, New Wave, and Post Punk; bonus points if the artist are also queer.

Video games. I play a lot of roguelikes, metroidvanias and dungeon crawlers but also really enjoy weird little games that explore unconventional game design or topics. Prefer indie games or retro games over AAA. Currently playing a lot of Balatro and Fear & Hunger 2: Termina.

Huge Horror Fan including but not limited to movies, tv shows, podcasts and manga. My favourite subgenres are probably slashers, horror comedies, mockumentries and anthologies.

Manga and Comics are one of my favourite mediums outside of video games. Some of my favourite series are Muhyo & Roji’s Bureau of Supernatural Investigation, Bone, Black Hammer, Shibito no Koe wo Kiku ga Yoi, Dungeon Meshi, Girls with Horns, the works of Julia Kaye and the works of Junji Ito.

I really love Animation especially anime. My partner and I are currently watching Dungeon Meshi. Some of my favourites are Owl House, Bocchi the Rock, Higurashi, Erased, Avatar (both TLAB & TLOK) and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

At some point I’d like to make a watch/read/played list that contains both what I’ve experienced in the past and what I’m currently checking out. Otherwise I think that’s a good quick intro me and to some of the things I’m into. Anyway enjoy my blog. 💜
