Sherrell Mitchell releases new single 'Hear O' Israel' feat. Grady Austin
The producer/songwriter of inspirational gospel music known as Sherrell “Rell” Mitchell has released his latest official single, “Hear O' Israel.” In addition to the considerable skills of Sherrell, “Hear O' Israel” also features performances by Grady Austin, The JLM Worshipers, and a Biblical proclamation from Rev. George Mitchell (AKA Dad). It has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Uplifting, exultant, and based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, “Hear O' Israel” is the latest reason for believers and fans of gospel music to take note of Sherrell Mitchell.
Some of “Rell’s,” artistic influences are many of the best-loved voices in modern praise: Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, John P. Kee, Hezakiah Walker, Donnie McClurkin, Take 6, Israel Houghton, Ben Tankard, Neal Jones, Grady Austin, and Cora Jackson. Informed by the styles of these contemporary favorites, Mitchell's own sound is founded on the American gospel choir tradition, but dressed up with 21st century production values and plenty of flair.
Asked to describe the overall meaning of “Hear O' Israel,” Sherrell writes, “This particular song shares a 2-part message: 1). that God is our All, and 2). a refocus/recommittal to our walk with Him as we give Him our all.”
Sherrell began music as a church percussionist in his youth, but learned to play the piano with training and mentorship by teachers such as Vivian Perryman, Darryl Hawk, Kay Classy and Phil Curry. He continues today to humble serve the Pacific Northwest Christian community with his love for the Lord and his musical gifts.
His 2016 albums, “The JLM Project” and “The Mass Of New Vision” continue to gain popularity, as does his January 2019 single release, “Salt Of The Earth.”
“All things are possible with God, and I’m truly grateful for the beautiful gift of music that He’s given me. Spreading the Gospel through musical expression, one song at a time for an Audience of One, as the world listens on.”
“Hear O' Israel” by Sherrell Mitchell feat. Min. Grady Austin is available from over 600 quality digital music stores online worldwide now.

Toronto’s Scattered Support Systems (A.K.A Ethnic Enclaves)
Hidden homelessness is a term that often comes up when discussing homelessness amongst a general type of population. Hidden homelessness comes under the category of a “temporary” support system and is defined as staying with others, but without the guarantee of that residence being permanent” (HomelessnessHub, n.d). Much like how Sahoor constantly wondered about how to pay the next month’s rent. It can be said that Sahoor and his family were undergoing hidden homelessness.
Immigrants with access to networking and social support systems are less vulnerable to hidden homelessness than ones without those systems (Hiebert, D’Addario & Sherrell, 2005). Going back to the two perspectives on immigration, the key difference in Munpreet and Sahoor’s experience was one’s lack of a social support system. Munpreet’s family had a close friend to rely on from the moment they stepped off the plane, and his friend also hooked him up with a stable truck-driving job. Munpreet’s friend also introduced him to the Punjabi enclave in Brampton, acting as a secondary support system.
That itself was a great blessing, a blessing which Sahoor’s family did not have. Sahoor had no guidance with his medical degree accreditation, nor with his employment. He booked an expensive condo as he was very well off, but he realized only later that it was a sinking investment. This ultimately led him to experience hidden homelessness because he was unsure if he could even afford next month’s rent.
The concept of social support systems highly relates with the ethnic enclaves of Toronto. Ethnic enclaves are those where 30% of the population is a specific type of ethnicity (McAllister, 2013). The CMA Toronto (Guelph to Oshawa) has numerous enclaves in which, many newcomers find a social support system, much like Munpreet’s community in Brampton. Examples of ethnic enclaves include Markham’s Chinese community, Brampton’s South Asian community, Yonge Street’s Jewish community, the Junction’s Portuguese community and Woodbridge's Jewish community (Sundus, n.d). These ethnic enclaves have been deemed as “survival sanctuaries” for many newcomers because increased clustering in these areas have been observed from 2001 to 2006 (Contenta & Rankin, 2012). Social support is provided to individuals by respective community members, making these new arrivals less vulnerable to homelessness or hidden homelessness (Lightman, Mitchell & Wilson, 2008).
So Ali, you’re saying that if I am not part of these ethnicities and do not have a support system (and I have a hard time with speaking English), I’ll become homeless, or experience hidden homelessness like Sahoor?
No. I am saying that based off argumentative literature regarding immigrant families facing homelessness, your level of vulnerability in becoming homeless will increase if a support system is not personally established. From personal experience, a support system greatly reduces that adverse likelihood.

Sherrell learned to play piano by ear after finding a calling in music at church as a child. Since that time, he’s had some formal training from the Univ. of Alaska Anchorage, as well as some other great mentors…Vivian Perryman, Darryl Hawk, Kay Classy and Phil Curry. With hands-high praise and eyes-down humility, “I Belong to You” is the latest reason for fans of modern gospel music to hear Sherrell Mitchell with fresh ears and an inspired heart.

“In a time of uncertainty when all seems lost,” Mitchell writes of this, “remember that God is always on the throne! And whether it be on this side of heaven or the other side of glory, we belong to God.”
Though he writes, records and performs music today in the Pacific Northwest, Sherrell Mitchell has played across the American west in locales as disparate as Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Idaho, Oregon, Alaska, and California. Asked to describe his start in music, Mitchell balks.
“Music has always been down in my soul from the beginning,” he says, “a gift from God. Over the years I’ve just learned to cultivate it, embrace the epiphany that it’s not mine, and release it back out into the universe.”
Of course, Mitchell points to faith for his success.
“God will handle the rest.”

Sherrell Mitchell releases new album 'The J.L.M. Project'
The singer and songwriter of contemporary gospel known as Sherrell Mitchell has released his latest EP record, “The J.L.M. Project.” The record contains nine new tracks for an approximate total listening time of 35 minutes, making Mitchell's new record closer to a full length release than just an EP. It has been proudly published as an independent album without the support of the corporate music industry. Stylish, earnest, full of rhythm and bringing endless amounts of soul, “The J.L.M. Project” is a spiritual journey and an extremely joyful noise.
Originally from the music hotbed of Louisiana but living now in Seattle, Sherrell Mitchell cites as main artistic influences some of the most inspirational singers ever to grace the stage. These include Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Israel Houghton, Take 6, Aaron Lindsey, James Fortune, Terrance Vaughn, Cora Jackson, Tamala Mann, and Tasha Cobbs.
Sherrell Mitchell's own sound blends the best qualities of these into an amalgam all his own. While gospel often tends toward the traditional (occasionally erring toward the predictable) Mitchell's “The J.L.M. Project” is unique and often surprising in its creativity and newness. Even the opening track, “God's Chosen People,” is enough to show the listener that this album isn't your everyday Christian music release. It's a colorful, funky, spirit-driven groove through a soundscape intended to celebrate, to praise, and to encourage.
In addition to the considerable talents of Mitchell, himself, “The J.L.M.” project boasts songwriting by Austin Anderson, Shalonda “Lala” Mitchell and Sylviann Estrella, as well as the work of Kevin “Rappin Rev” McAfee, Leonard Jackson Jr. (Guitar), Rasheed (mix/mastering), and cover art by Hung Pham.
Asked to describe the themes of his new album, Mitchell writes, “'The J.L.M. Project''s main theme/message is that no matter what comes or goes in your life, always remember that Jesus Loves You.”
“The J.L.M. Project” is the most recent release from Sherrell Mitchell since his contemporary Catholic mass with gospel music overtones, “the Mass of New Vision,” arrived at digital music shelves in September of 2014. He has performed in such far-flung locales as Alaska, Idaho, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Canada.
“The J.L.M. Project” by Sherrell Mitchell is available online worldwide now.
