A new scene, flooded ruins of amphitheatre. Eh, overdid it with the waves. Carved shell fragments, stone, quartz sand and resin in a spisula shell.

In a hall recently acquired clam shell sits on an intricately carved late seventeenth-century Irish mahogany table that came from a house in County Leix. The table is carved on both sides and designed to stand in the centre of a room rather than against a wall.

#FishFriday:

Figure of Sea God Ngorieru (or Ngoreru)
Solomon Islands
late 19th - early 20th c.
turtle shell
on display at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
“A close look at this human-like figure reveals a shark head and fish for feet, attributes of the sea spirit Ngorieru. Honored by Sa'a and Ulawa communities and today familiar across the Solomon Islands as the image on the nation's 10-cent coin, Ngorieru caused danger for people at sea, but could also be asked to protect houses, canoes, and gardens. Ngorieru's protection was often invoked with a small wooden carving, but when foreign traders on the islands revealed a preference for turtle-shell pieces, local artists made a few Ngorieru figures in this translucent but brittle material.”

Carved and engraved shells by Cornelis Bellekin (circa 1625 - before 1711), Dutch engraver of mother-of-pearl shells and, apparently, also active as painter.
Born into a family of engravers - the founder of the family, Jeremie, having settled in Amsterdam in 1608
- he specialised in the engraving of mother-of-pearl, becoming the most distinguished artist in that field.

TESblr i have an inquiry on the position of silt striders in the predator-prey hierarchy, along with what exactly they could potentially eat (answers i got was the large fungi in Morrowind, trees, the occasional bird), considering animals like nix-ox have actual sharp teeth, i wondered if it was a similar situation w Silt Striders- but then i thought they’re too tall to really.. hunt for meat.
#i wonder also if them being so tall is some sort of result of selective breeding#i also realised that the carving of their outer shells may be done by hand? because they look really deliberate#this is for my fanfic LMFAO#TESblr

Controversial opinion but I don't think regular gale has abs. God gale absolutely does though. God gale has a six pack. God gale is shredded.
#It's about the idealization#The perfection#The move beyond humanity#God gale has abs because he's a god and that's what gods do#It's a shedding of the old mortal shell and the move toward an inhuman perfection#Him learning to live himself as he is vs him turning all his considerable power into honing himself better and sharper and more and and and#Ough! Augh!#He did it he really fucking did it but he carved so much of himself away in the process but who would complain who wouldn't shape#Themselves into flawlessness if they could? Who wouldn't become perfect powerful beautiful excellent beyond every definition?#If you could have it all - wouldn't you?#Each and every last morsel the world has to offer?#gale dekarios#bg3#Sorry I'm being deranged about Gale again

And another one, because I'm obsessed, and because for some mysterious reason carving with shaking hands is way easier than drawing. Carved shell, moss and resin, sea glass and pearls for a necklace.

FrogFriday 🐸:

Carving of a frog, 700-800 CE Maya culture, Topoxte, Guatemala Shell & quartz, 21/8 x 23/4 x 1/4 in (6.7 X 7 x 0.4 cm) Museo Nacional de Arqueología y Etnología, Guatemala From the exhibition “Fiery Pool: The Maya and the Mythic Sea”
“Originally part of a sumptuous burial offering from the island of Topoxte in Lake Yaxha, this shell carving portrays a smooth and nimble swimming frog, limbs in motion, with pale eyes of inlaid stones. Its captivating color and delicate pattern come from the natural appearance of the Oliva porphyria shell, which is found in the Pacific Ocean in southern Central America.“

the best thing that i hate is public transit. it’s sensory hell & i hate the feeling of not having control over my travel & not being able to leave a place when i want to. everything about it is miserable to me. but also i fully believe we should abolish cars, i work toward that every day in the small ways that i can, i use transit whenever feasible, i encourage my friends to use it, etc. whether or not i’m comfortable while i use it isn’t relevant
#k talks#this is a metaphor about the existence of lifestyles and/or art that you are not personally comfortable with#it’s also a spoken word poem about the number of (also autistic) exes i’ve had who’ve avoided discomfort SO hard#that they’ve carved their lives into hollow shells in which they huddle; unable to find happiness bc they’re so painfully afraid of life

It took 10 years for artist Giovanni Sabbato to transform this shell into an extraordinary work of art, from 1883-1893.
