Belated happy Sheithlentine, to harothar @imhereformysciencefriends ! Thank you for your patience! I went with your AU prompt: Ulaz never freed Shiro and Keith had to fight his way into the stars to save him. Sorry I'm not a fic writer, but I hope this scene fits.

I imagined Black Paladin Keith who, after finishing his Marmora trials, received Ulaz's intel report from Kolivan. Together they planned a rescue mission, and Keith then led both paladins and blade teams to free Shiro, Matt, Sam, and other prisoners.

I think this was part of my trend in topping myself every year for sheithlentines. Watch out 2023 I'm coming for you.

mini fic/back story kept in the staccato rhythm of a twit thread under the cut

Keith is an intergalactic star, and Shiro is a VET who owns a run down martial arts gym essentially made out of shoddily taped together training mats

Keith loves the gym because none of the clientele care or know who he is, and its reclusive owner gives him him a run for his money on the mats (he's not too bad to look at either).

He likes to pay for small upgrades in the gym, and waves Shiro's objections away by telling him that it's an investment for himself

And he's sneaky enough that Shiro doesn't notice the gradual slide between paying for training gear for the gym to things just for Shiro; a new phone 'to take his business calls'. Not until they're deep in a burning new relationship and Keith asks Shiro to attend a gala with him

"I want to show you off"

The clothes have no price tags, and the store is grand with high ceilings. The shop assistant is dressed in a fine suit and follows them attentively around the store. Shiro's ears burn like embers when Keith presses a fine silk shirt to his chest, lined with sparkling gold.

A sapphire like a brand at the base of his throat. "Perfect" he breathes, as he slips a black card to their attendant.

January/February

As the tweet had said, Sheithlentines assignments were going out thus I started my new year with writing. Since the Sheithlentines event is an exchange I dedicated my time to that as I wanted to do my best. It's honestly the only restriction/pressure I gave myself.

Now I have to put this on full disclaimer that I am not mad at the mods nor the recipients for how I feel on how this year's event went down. That said I have decided not to participate in 2023 just because of how it made me feel despite my end results.

When I got my prompts I was so excited. I love kid fics and when I saw one of their prompts was a kid fic I was overjoyed. Remember the doll custom research I did for a fic? I thought I could use the concept for this, though it needed a little tweaking. I got about half way through, Shiro and Keith were gonna have their meet cute and we just had out first check in. About a day or so later I got a DM saying that my giftee had to drop due to health reasons, then was given the options to continue or get new prompts. I opted for new prompts since I had pleanty of time before posting. Thus I got a new set of prompts and my Sheithlentines fic for 2022 was born.

But... that wasn't without its struggles either. The set of prompts I got were easy to work with and honestly this fic is my 2nd favorite fic I have ever written next to my fix-it. If it wasn't for the event I probably never would have thought of this piece so I am grateful for the experience, however, I had just completed my 2nd check-in that had to include a WIP, when I got a DM saying my 2nd giftee had to drop. I was honestly heartbroken. I was given the option again, but this time I choose to stay with my prompts as I wouldn't have been able to put my best foot foward with only a week out until posting and again; I was in love with this piece.

As I said I am not mad at either side. Things happen and I know the mods hate delivering that kind of news (especially twice to the same person), but I think I would like to skip the emotional roller coaster this coming year.
