These are the 6 gifs I did for the folklore project, based on the tradition of the Old Horse. These celebrations were seen as so normal back in those days, and nobody really found it weird, so to modernise that I decided to put my own spin on an animal crossing style game, where one or two details is a bit off or creepy but none of the characters find it strange. The final gif is to show that it is in fact a game, and to show that the person playing the game also doesn't see anything creepy or unusual, and even has a plushie of the Old Horse. This row of Grade II Listed Almshouses was built in 1879 by the Licensed Victuallers Association. During the First World War, the building was used as an auxiliary hospital. The exterior filming location of the fictional Millthorpe Working Men’s Club from the Full Monty. It’s sad to see the state of the exterior of the building today. The building, Regency House on Idsworth Road, Fir Vale was once the Roxy Cinema. It opened in 1929 as the Page Hall Cinema, it also had a pool hall, cafe and ballroom. It was re-named the Roxy in 1945 when it was acquired by the Buxton Theatres Circuit. The cinema closed in 1959, becoming a bingo hall, ballroom and dance studio. In its latter years it was a snooker hall abc carpet store. The Full Monty was filmed here in 1997. Happy Halloween ☠️👻🎃👹. The General Cemetery opened in 1836 and closed for burial in 1978. It was the principal cemetery in Victorian Sheffield with over 87,000 burials. I took a different path whilst out running and came across this. Headstone and railing. Charcoal made in the woods was used for smelting iron; white coal was for smelting lead. The headstone is dated 1786. The inscription reads: "In memory of George Yardley, Wood Collier. He was burnt to death in his Cabbin on this place Octr. 11th 1786. William Brookes, Salesman; David Glossop, Gamekeeper; Thos. Smith, Besom maker; Sampn. Brookshaw, Innkeeper." I have driven past this monument countless times on my way home from work and always wondered what it was. It has taken me about 6 years to stop and have a look. The monument is a very simple design with the word ‘Chantrey’ etched in the stone. This meant nothing to me and so, when I got home, I did a little research. The monument is to remember Sir Francis Legatt Chantrey who was born near Norton in 1781. He was born the son of a tenant farmer turned carpenter. After his fathers death, a 12 year old Francis went to work with a grocer, later taking up an apprenticeship with a wood carver and gilder in Sheffield. He eventually bought his way out of his apprenticeship and took up work as an artist, having a studio at Paradise Square. He eventually moved to London where he took up sculpting. Chantrey ranks as one of the greatest English sculptors. He was most famous for his busts as well as the statue of King George IV at Trafalgar Square in London. Meersbrook Hall - Built in 1780 by Benjamin Roebuck. The property included a walled kitchen garden and house's estate extended to Meers Brook. The house was the home of the Ruskin Museum until 1950. John Ruskin originally set up his museum as the Museum of St George in 1871 at a small cottage in Walkley, but it was renamed and moved to Meersbrook House in 1890. The Ruskin collection can now be seen in Sheffield's Millennium Galleries. Although the area was still in Derbyshire, the councillors in Sheffield were already looking over the border for amenity facilities for their citizens. In January 1885, Sheffield City Council bought both the house and the land as a public park or pleasure ground. The house is now a Grade II listed building.
