so in the Goblin Emperor etc, Katherine Addison uses singular vs plural pronouns with an informal/formal distinction (T-V distinction if you're feeling fancy, after Latin tu and vos). This is a thing in English, although thou is obviously pretty archaic and I don't think we has ever been used as a standard formal singular pronoun outside of like, monarchs and other people in specific positions of power (though I could be wrong about that).

anyway. she also frequently has Maia or Celehar specify in their narration whether someone is using you/we as a plural vs formal singular pronoun. Now you could argue that they are basing this on context clues and specifying it to the readers for the sake of clarity. however, I can't recall any examples of either Maia or Celehar noting any ambiguity or confusion over whether someone intends a singular or plural meaning, which seems to indicate that in Ethuverazhin, these are separate pronouns, or that there is at least some change to the grammar that makes it unambiguous.

This obviously doesn't line up with English, where plural you and singular formal you are functionally identical and you have to infer the meaning from context, which would inevitably lead to some instances of confusion. this brings me to bit my brain is getting stuck on- if singular formal we/you and plural we/you are unambiguous in Ethuverazhin, unlike in English, then why do Maia/Celehar bother to specify which one is being used? assuming that the general conceit here is that they're all speaking and thinking in Ethuverazhin which has been 'translated' into English in the book. I can handwave it with Maia since his narration is in third person, but in Cemetries of Amalo where Celehar is narrating in first person I can't help but think, 'why would he think that to himself?'

I'm curious as to what other people think of this (if they think of it at all, lol). do you imagine that it is ambiguous in Ethuverazhin but Maia/Celehar never have trouble inferring the correct meaning? or do you imagine there is some kind of distinction that can't be rendered into English, and we just have to suspend our disbelief as to why Thara would spell it out in his own head even though he would have no reason to?

1. Character that everyone gets wrong.

Lol, we're starting with the heavy weaponry aren't we? You know? To spice things a little bit, I'm gonna choose an Arc V character and a Kubera character, even though only one of my mutuals reads the last one >.>

Arc V

Well... as much as I would like to say Reiji again, I think I've established enough times how misinterpreted his character is, so this time I'll choose...

Ray Akaba, I wasn't even aware that there were still people around who apparently hate her so much, that they would call for the "Ray hater nation" or whatever, I'm not gonna mention who it was but it was very recent, which honestly makes me remember that one tweet pointing out how silly people sound when they justify not liking badly written female character, how they'd supposedly love them if they were better written, when they couldn't handle any of them having one bad feeling for they boyfavs.

And that's really all there sees to be behind A LOT of the Ray hate going around: They hate her because canonically she defeated Zarc and she split him and then split herself to chase him across dimensions, and hate that she was the one who had to give the coup of grace in the duel against him.

They hate that canonically, Ray is one of the best duelist in the yugiohverse, and they will pull the weirdest excuses out of their backside to justify why she's the worst, how she was "too conceited" to believe she could take Zarc on her on, like excuse me, she absolutely took him down, TWICE, not sure what series you were watching, how she supposedly pulled a deus ex machina with the En Cards, as if the requirements to use them weren't ridiculously difficult to meet and wouldn't require a very skilled duelist, how she was dumb for sparing Leo because he caused an wat to bring her back, like, sweetie, the world would have ended anyway because with or without Leo, Zarc would have awakened eventually, that's why Ray set herself to always chase him down and defeat him over and over, like honestly i could dedicate a whole rant essay to the ridiculous claims I've seen made about her.

But the one thing everyone ALWAYS gets wrong is this, and I'm gonna put it in all caps and bold text because it needs to be said:

RAY ALONG WITH ZARC CREATED THE PENDULUM SUMMON AND THE PENDULUM CARDS!!

(AND VERY LIKELY ALSO YUYA'S PENDULUM NECKLACE)

Seriously people, this isn't rocket science, the entirety of the 6th opening and ending is FULL of visual cues about how the both of them did it, we have visuals of Yuya and Yuzu forming the energy for the Pendulum, we know Ray was able to create and give cards to Reira in her spirit-like form, heck, lately the card game has released a bunch of cards that attach the word pendulum to Ray as well, come on.

And that's just something that a large portion of the fandom always gets wrong about her.

Kubera

For this webtoon there is way too many people with the worst takes on many characters, befitting as the characterization of the story is very complex and well-made, and many of them are girls, and the girls can just as flawed and commit terrible actions as the dude characters.

But one character that seems to exceed the number of bad takes rather than the good ones is Menaka.

Menaka is a nastika, a race who in this story are sort of like opposing force to the gods, the author has even mentioned that humans sort of see them like "evil gods", some fit the label more than others, and others like Menaka are the exact opposite of evil, she was actually hailed as the one nastika who was qualified enough to eventually become the wisest king of the clans, and would be the first one to reach enlightenment and defeat one of the main villains. Unfortunately this one villain would have none of that and screwed her over on a cosmological level to the point it costed her everything, her power, her life, her clan, her future, and she ended up being screwed over after her death and then some more.

Without saying too many things confusing to non-readers that's the gist, as as the type of character who was tricked into abandoning everything for the greater good, and lived and died to regret it because she ended up doing a lot of damages for her decisions as well, and then sacrifice herself once more she's the perfect candidate to be hated, mischaracterized, mocked, straight up make things up about her character that you'd thing they're talking about someone else.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that people called her a groomer and the true villain of the story, not like a joke or hyperbole, but as like what they actually think of her -_-'

Uff, that was hard to write without possibly spoiling anyone lol (don't judge me, Kubera in ongoing, Arc V is over :P)

21. part of canon you think is overhyped

The Xyz arc, that all I have to say, I mean, you guys know me, for those who follow me when it was airing, you know my feelings about it and you know the absolute boredom that brings me every single time any of the xyz dimension characters were the focus (unless Yuzu, Dennis, Sora or Yuya were in them lol)

People love to say that the series did them dirty because they deserved a full arc, but honestly, we deserved a full arc dedicated to the fusion dimension, and I will die in that hill.

Kubera.

You know? Kubera doesn't have overhyped parts, because the series as a whole is just so underrated and obscure, and everything is so interwoven together, that it's impossible to remove any parts without affecting the overarching plot so... *shrugs*

thought i'd give the director's commentary to my oikawa fic Icarus!

Icarus (oikawa x f!reader) :

hrm is it v conceited to admit i wrote this fic because i didn't really love his eventual ending in the manga. i personally found it a bit sad that he chose too play in argentina instead of being accepted and recognised for his talents in his home country, and be able to play on equal ground with his former rivals - but i can see the thematic beauty in him being kageyama's / ushijima's eternal rival but anyway - that's why i wrote a fic where he still finds success, both in argentina and japan but not at the price of leaving japan for good.

imagery wise, of course the title is a dead give away, and i had so much fun playing with lines like "Icarus, Icarus. Your hubris has led you to such heights, but look how far you’ve fallen" - because oikawa truly is the ultimate icarus, isn't he. the boy with golden wax wings flying inexorably towards the sun. and the reader knows it and that's the basis for all her doubts, because a relationship with him will fail if he's unable to compromise his ambitions for her, and at the start, when they're so young, it does. but then when he meets her again later in life when his wings are broken (haha second chance trope, whoops), you can see him try to balance both love and volleyball and...idk i feel like that's probably the only way he might have a happy relationship.

and of course, because the reader in this fic is a medical student (and later, a doctor) and because oikawa suffers a life changing injury in the second act, i leaned a lot on visceral body part imagery (lol i don't have a more elegant phrase for it). so descriptions like "wring the liquid from your lungs, lay it on the floor to dry" and "fill the cavity of your chest with the remnants of your organs, secure them in place with stitches and staples" were used across the fic. i paired it with the personification of the reader's heart being a prisoner of her resolve not to fall in love again (especially with him) - "the heart that you’ve locked away behind bars of bone and steel twitches, just once" just to show how fearful she is of loving him again, how she's been burnt once before and has locked her heart up away from him. all this to lead to the theme of courage in love - because it takes a lot of bravery to love, knowing that there's always the possibility of being hurt. but at the same time, idk - i hoped my readers could also see that the reader's choice to be cautious could also be interpreted as an act of self sabotage.

anyways. a funny thing about this fic - i was terrified that the love scene i wrote was inappropriate, I RAN IT PAST SO MANY OF MY MOOTS WHOOPS. and it really was a joy to write tooru because like atsumu, his personality lends himself really well to snappy dialogue, especially in the izakaya / karaoke scene when he's trying to stop the reader from flirting with atsumu whilst flirting with her himself LOL. sighs - oh toorus is just a bundle of joy to write HAHA.

I don’t think Giyuu would ever be so bold with his compliments, but for the sake of this fic,,, we’re gonna make him v blunt. Also this ended shortly bc I wanted to get it out before I went to bed. Also this is my first Giyushino fic lol. This is unedited and kinda sucks cause I’m,,, super tired. Oh well.

Shinobu likes to think herself composed.

It was difficult to quell her emotions in the first months after Kanae’s death-- ever-present was the anger that flowed through her veins. She learned to smoothen out the permanent scowl that marred her face with time, leaving with it a light smile.

She learned to be gentle, patient, sympathetic-- everything Kanae once was, for she’ll have to model herself after her sister if she can ever hope to fulfill her dream. Sympathy doesn’t come easy, it never has in the face of demons. So presents them with choices she knows they’ll never make, and pretends that it’s all she can do.

Her grief settles into the back of her mind while her rage festers somewhere in her gut, she fills Kanae’s spot as Pillar. And with that title, she is assigned new missions.

She frequently joins missions with Tomioka Giyuu, and she thinks his aloofness a trait brought on by arrogance at first. But the more she works with him, the more she realizes his silence is born out of awkwardness rather than conceit.

She begins to tease him, simply to get a reaction, but then it becomes habitual, and the more time she spends with the Water Pillar, the more her childishness seeps out of her thickly built walls.

He begins to respond to her nagging with short answers, small grunts, and noises to show that he’s heard. And then he begins responding in words, small sentences. Rarely does he initiate conversation-- but his tolerance to her questioning is enough for Shinobu.

They’re returning from a short mission when it happens. The only sound in the quiet morning being their steps as they break into fresh snow. She is a couple of paces ahead of him, her hands tucked into the sleeves of her uniform to keep out the cold.

Her hair is loose from her clip, stray pieces falling around her face. Dirt and gore cover her clothes, she’s exhausted, wholly unable to enjoy the beauty of the morning. Behind her, she knows Giyuu doesn’t fare much better.

Shinobu lets her smile droop, uncaring if the only one to see her discomfort is the quiet man behind her, she doesn’t have the energy to make any one-sided conversation with him as they trek back.

She expects the walk to be in complete silence, until--

“Kochou,” he mutters, so quiet she wouldn’t hear if the dawn hadn’t been so muted, she turns her head to face him and slows her pace.

He’s silent a moment, and Shinobu is about to turn around and deliver a biting remark, far too impatient to deal with his aloofness today, until he meets her eyes.

“You’re pretty.”

She gapes, mouth open for an embarrassingly long moment before she whips her head around, staring stiffly forward. Her face flushes hot enough she’s sure she’ll melt the snow around her, and she has half a mind to let down her hair lest he sees her ears, which are undoubtedly burning scarlet.

She simply lets out a quiet, “ah,” the monosyllable betraying every thought shouting in her head.

This stupid, airheaded, man! She thinks, and curses how her composure crumbles in the face of two simple words.

a one-shot that spiralled elsewhere, without much of a plan (it’s kind of a grab-bag of ideas, and me throwing stuff at the wall to see if it sticks, and i don’t think i COULD write something like it again but i’m very glad i did!) v the first part of this series was a one-shot written without much plan but the knowledge it might start a series; the third part was somewhat planned with the second one (but still all in my head with no notes bc i am a demon)

quite a lot of characters (annie and ruby are in it a lot, im not sure if dean’s ever onscreen but he’s mentioned lol, the kids are there, stan’s in it a bit, amber’s in it quite a bit, turner’s there, there are some OCs who are in it quite a bit...) v basically only beth and rio (and a lil bit of mick, and a teeeeeeeny bit of OCs i guess)

so i’d probs say... wide focus v narrow one?

originally had a conceit (focusing on beth’s relationship with different character/s each chapter, kinda hence the name) which fell by the wayside cos it’s too hard to move the story on like that v a lot of the major stuff i wanted to happen was kinda seeded in with the previous part so even if i didn’t quite have like a planned out plan i knew what major bits i was hitting for sure (also found a way to sneak in weird use of whitespace, as with the previous 2 parts)

in some ways it kind of feels like the show: rio and beth confrontation at the beginning, then he’s not in it that much but randomly pops up every so often and it’s more of beth interacting with annie n ruby et al, and then rio gets to blather quite a lot again at the end v um not like that at all, basically a bottle episode

although it starts a lot about grief and guilt, it ends up as a lighter explanation/resolution of the s2 finale v i guess it’s more about anger and revenge and trauma, and it’s pretty angsty, and it’s more about post-s2 finale resolution rather than trying to explain what happened (i mean it’s set within s3...ish)

no mick bc we didn’t know of him yet (sad times) v mick is clearly the star of the show

while it’s the longest thing ive written, i imagine the chapters are reasonably short? v the longest single item by some way

I’ve answered this one too, but basically i think if i was going to do it i’d at least attempt to be sneaky?! maybe i’d go fullllllll bringlish with the vocab (loads of adverbs! used properly!!! lots of roundabouts and electric kettles and egg cups and mums and arses. GOD COULD YOU IMAGINE???! HOW RELAXING IT WOULD BEEEE????!)

idk though, i guess it’s hard to gauge how distinctive one’s writing sounds? i mean, i write like me bc i’m me, and it’s the way i write. i feel like there’s definitely differences btwn my stories, both in terms of tone and like which things i press on more, but you can probs tell the same person wrote them? but yea, idk if you’d look at, say, the good kind & found my thrill or yourself and others & (a) time to kill [lol loving this completely unnecessary rhyme scheme] without context & clock it????

So I am an ENFP capricorn and my enneagram is 7w8! My behaviour with other really depends on my mood and on their personalities so other's image of me goes from "wow she is so friendly" to "wtf she is so conceited and manipulative". But most of the time people describe me as crazy, outgoing and bubbly! Since my height is on the shorter side and my cheeks are always red and freckly, I look younger and more innocent than I actually am.

I'm adaptable, super spontaneous and hate overthinking stuff. Also I am shortsighted lol but I don't really like wearing my glasses in public, they make me look so serious and studious when LOL no. I don't really care now but when I was younger I hated the 'honor student' label it gave me. I have many hobbies and love learning new skills but the most important ones to me are definitely drawing/painting, cooking/baking, piano, reading, acting, swimming, travelling and learning new languages (I am fluent in 5 and learning 2 more). I used to be super passionate about martial arts and reached a black belt but had to stop due to health issues 😭. I'm ambitious, mischievious and cunning. I laugh super easily and smile a lot! What’s their personal philosophy?  Do they even have one?

For much of the earlier portion of her life, Lucy’s motto would be “do unto others and you would have them do unto you”. Up until about the time Rakepick shows up, and Ben’s secret-keeping, and just the all-around mess that her life becomes when the Vaults come into question, this is what she lives by. After about Year 4? It shifts a bit, focusing her own values and energy towards protecting her loved ones and innocent people from those who would cause harm, and doing whatever necessary to stop them. And after finding Nathan, she begins to include him in the latter.

How do they feel about their status and reputation as the curse-breaker in the school?

Lucy was never one for the spotlight, even as a little kid. She was content for years to simply look up to her older brother in his successes, and then later to help her parents with her baby brother, showering him with love and attention. Actively searching for the Vaults, and subsequently breaking the curses within, was only part of her plan to try and find some closure as to her brother’s disappearance (something she has convinced herself he was merely a victim of and not an active participant, to save herself grief of her brother not being what she thought). She doesn’t like having so many eyes on her, especially for something she knows is dangerous and putting herself and her friends in harm’s way. But every time she tries to back out and leave it be, she gets dragged back in.

Did they get sorted into the Hogwarts House they expected to?  Did the Sorting Hat have any problems sorting them?  Or did it not even have to touch their head?

Before Nathan’s disappearance, she would have loved to consider herself lucky enough to be a witch, let alone be sorted into her brother’s house. After his disappearance, however, she had mixed feelings about the idea of sharing his crest and colors, and possibly having more eyes on her than before. Her values lined up differently than his, however, and the Sorting Hat gave her an out in the form of Hufflepuff house. She was still a little disappointed by being so far from her brother’s life there, but years later, she’d swear up and down that being put in the house of fairness, honesty, and loyalty is where she truly belonged.

What’s their personal style?

Lucy wears a lot of early Autumn colors, usually. Lots of oranges, yellows, browns, and olive greens are kind of signature to her style. She typically wears things that make her feel cute and kind of kid-like, so over-large sweaters with skirts or overall shorts and dresses with print tops (floral or stripes, typically). She usually pairs both with comfortable boots and long socks. She wears her hair down most of the time, except when actively exploring the Vaults and when studying for final exams.When it gets cold, she’ll sometimes “borrow” sweaters from her friends to stay warm (usually Bill and Barnaby).

What are their coping strategies for dealing with everything (the Vaults, Jacob, etc.), if they have any?

Lucy has terrible coping mechanisms for her problems, unfortunately. She convinced herself early on that her brother had probably been killed by the Cursed Vaults while trying to help protect others from the curses, and is thus even more broken up when she eventually does find him and sees what kind of person he’s really become. She tries at the start of every year to ignore the signs of another Vault opening, just trying to live a normal, Hogwarts-student life, only to be dragged into it when people have already been attacked or hurt. After the incident with the dragon and Rakepick, she tries to close herself off, thinking it’s because they’re so close to her that her friends keep getting hurt. It doesn’t work, and her friends end up finding her and hugging her as she cries about everything that seems to go wrong with her life.

What electives do they take throughout their time at Hogwarts?

If she could, she would take every class available because it was so hard to choose just a few! In the end, however, she settled on Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, and Ancient Runes, because Alchemy was only for 7th years, and Arithmancy was “just magic math”. Muggle Studies was almost chosen instead of Divination, but Luc decided she wanted something a little more challenging. (She didn’t realize her patience was what would be tested lol).

Are they in any clubs or extracurricular activities?  What about Quidditch?

It’s really hard to find time to do extracurriculars when you’re trying to protect people from being frozen in ice blocks or sleep-walking into an acromantula nest. She did join the Frog Choir after third year, though unfortunately drops out between 5th-6th year to focus on her studies (and the Vaults). She occasionally goes to the music club, though is not an official member. Unfortunately, Lucy may be a decent flyer, but isn’t quite cut out for Quidditch. Besides, she’d rather be in the stands (huddled and warm) while watching her friends play instead. Sometimes she’ll help Madame Pomfrey with healing students in the Hospital Wing, but the smell of the potions and medicines reminds her of the doctor’s office, so she wouldn’t ever do it for a living.

How studious are they?  What kind of studying strategies do they use?  Do they have any study groups with their friends?

Lucy is a stickler for good note-taking, bringing a bunch of spiral notebooks and colored gel pens and highlighters with her every year to take “proper” notes to share with her friends during their weekly study sessions. She and Rowan usually lead for most classes, though Penny takes charge for Potions, Ben (and Rowan and Bill, sometimes) lead for Charms, and Charlie and Barnaby for Care of Magical Creatures. Lucy, Rowan, and Bill sometimes help some of the younger students set up study groups as well, and often let the younger Weasley siblings and Cedric join their sessions, too. Liz doesn’t always study with them, but will when she needs to, Tulip and Tonks only show up when forced or bribed, and Skye was wrangled into coming once, but got everyone off task getting into a trash-talk showdown with Andre over the Gryffindor v. Ravenclaw game the following day; everyone else either has a different group to study with or refuses to do so entirely.

How willing are they when it comes to breaking school rules?

Lucy hates getting in trouble, since it’s being put under a spotlight in a more negative context for her. The first three years of school, she tries whatever she can to avoid breaking the rules when possible. After the Fear Vault is closed, however, she starts loosening up a little bit. She still doesn’t like to break the rules, but she’ll do it with less coercing, and gets even sneakier to get away with it.

Do they hang out with any of their friends over breaks?  If so, which one(s) and what do they do?

Living all the way out in Ireland, just outside of Dublin, it’s a bit harder to get to visit her friends before she heads into London for her school shopping at the end of summer holiday. Charlie and Bill make use of the fireplace to invite her over for dinner a few times during the break, flooing her there and back without much hassle. She makes time to spend with Rowan specifically during the summer, inviting her over to spend a week or so every year, and Rowan inviting her for the same amount at her house right after. She gets an owl (a cooky brown owl that her little brother named Bernard) for her family to send her mail during the year, and uses him herself to keep in touch with the rest of her friends until September rolls around again.

After they graduate, do they fall off the map and keep a low profile?  Or do they continue to exist in the public eye?

After deciding very early on that she didn’t much care for being the center of attention, once she had the opportunity to fade into obscurity, she took it. She eventually married Barnaby and moved with him to Romania, where he and Charlie work together with dragons. Lucy decides a little later on to document some of her childhood, but feeling awkward about writing her own life story down, changes the names and some of the details to instead create a fictional book series for kids. It later gets published under a pseudonym and achieves moderate success in both the muggle and magical worlds.

How does their career path differ from what they thought they’d be doing?  Or does it differ at all?

It took Lucy her entire life to figure out what she wanted to do. At Hogwarts, when asked what career path she wanted to pursue, she was so shocked that she asked if she could “just go back to bed”. She decided to take whatever classes could be most broadly considered for a number of professions, and even then wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to do once she left Hogwarts. She decided to handle her personal life first, cheering her friends on as they found their paths, and then going with Barnaby so he could achieve his dream. It was only later, after beginning to just write things down, that she realized how much she enjoyed doing it.

Do they have any hobbies?  What about any talents or aptitudes?

She loves taking some time to just goof off with her friends, playing Gobstones or getting some Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks. She’ll spend some gloomy weekends curled up in a big armchair in the library, quietly reading to herself (and later, helping Barnaby with his dyslexia). She’s also a major card shark, winning almost every muggle card game she’s ever played and often tricking her friends into playing with her and losing anything from candy to wizard cards to even money, on occasion. She’s particularly good in Charms class, as well as Astronomy and Ancient Runes.

Do they have any favorite spells?

She likes spells that can used to help others, like Episkey or Protego. She has a certain fondness for Expecto Patronum, of course. She also likes using Lumos, to light up her bed behind the curtains after a bad nightmare.

What’s one thing they did or thought as a child that they later look back and cringe about?

Long after she and Barnaby finally get together, they both end up hearing about the bets their friends placed on their relationship and how lovesick they apparently acted before asking each other out. Tonks and Tulip will sometimes act out their mutual pining at lunch or at the Three Broomsticks, leaving both of them flustered and cringing over just how insufferable they must've been before they realized their feelings were returned. If she could go back and do it over, she might almost be tempted to have just kissed Barnaby at the Celestial Ball and avoided the whole mess. Almost.

If they could travel anywhere at all in the world—money, time, and language not being an issue—where would they go and who would they take with them?

It's a tough choice between some very good options, travelling to historical landmarks across the globe with Rowan, getting tasty food in Paris with Penny, or taking her family for a nice, normal vacation to Disney in the States. But eventually, she'd probably decide on travelling the world looking for various beasts and creatures with Barnaby, and writing about their adventures.

If they’re an Animagus, how easy was becoming one for them?  Were they happy with their Animagus form?  Or did they want it to be something different?

Lucy studied up on being an animagus with Talbott while at Hogwarts, but couldn't bring herself to actually become one until after graduation. She remains an unregistered sparrow animagus even after Voldemort is finally defeated. She would've liked to be maybe some kind of cat, but can't deny that being so small and being able to fly are some great advantages when the second war rolls around.

Do they like what they see in the mirror?

Had it not been for her magical abilities making themselves known as she grew up, she might've gone through all of primary school unnoticed. As it was, kids often ostracized and ridiculed her for being weird and different until she finally went to Hogwarts. Between that and the guilt she carries for everyone that gets hurt by the Vaults, it takes her a very long time to come to terms with herself and her self-worth.

How good are they at taking compliments?

Lucy is pretty decent at taking compliments, so long as it's not a bunch all at one time; she gets anxious when too many people try and talk to her at once. When Barnaby compliments her, though, she gets flustered and stumbles over her words while blushing really bright, almost blocking out her freckles.

How much do they trust their friends?

Lucy trusts those she keeps close to an almost impossible degree. It can sometimes lead her to trouble, such as leaving her vulnerable to pranks by Tonks or Tulip.

Are they pretty self-reliant?  Or do they like to go to their friends for help?

At first, she's much more willing to do things as a group, having her friends' backs as much as they have hers. Later on, however, she begins closing herself off, trying to take on everything herself to avoid her friends getting hurt because of her. It doesn't last very long, however, as they all work better as a team.

Who is their favorite Weasley?  Or can they not choose?

Ginny and Ron are just too cute, from what little she's seen of them. Bill is like another older brother, and she loves him dearly. She and Charlie are great friends, but anything and everything becomes a competition with them, starting with a "who knows more about dragons" contest that she actually won in their 2nd year. They could almost have been considered rivals up until later on in Year 4. Percy is alright, she Guesses, but even she thinks he needs to loosen up a bit. And she spends most of her time trying to just keep the twins separated from Tonks and Tulip, if only to avoid the Apocalypse.

What’s the thing they like least about themselves?

She's a little stuffy about rules, she worries too much, her actions and choices keep putting people in danger, and FFS, she faced a DRAGON and still can't kill one measly little spider??

What’s the thing they like most about themselves?

She cares about her friends and family, she would never go out of her way to betray them or to hurt others. She takes pride in the lives she's helped and saved.

How bad is their temper?  Do they tend to lash out at others or themselves?

Her temper only gets really out of hand when someone she cares about gets hurt. She can usually handle someone hurting her with nothing more than a few years, but attack the people she cares about? That'll be the last thing you ever do.

What’s their biggest regret in life, if they have any?

She blames herself for far too many things. She wishes Ben hadn't been hurt and controlled by Rakepick, she thinks she could've done more to help and support him. She feels like if she had been more observant as a kid, she might've seen something going on with Nathan and could've stopped his disappearance. She's terrified about how the two of them being so involved in the Cursed Vaults with effect Casey as he grows up, and if he'll end up inheriting their legacy or not, if it might get him killed.

What kind of first impression do they tend to leave on others?

Lucy is sweet, doe-eyed, and a little naïve. A pretty face, very smart, but very open and trusting. Would apologize to you if you poured soup into her lap. Most would either want to protect the sweet, innocent child or absolutely take advantage of her trusting and kind nature.

What is the achievement they’re most proud of?

She once managed to eat an entire tin of her mom's homemade butter cookies without vomiting (her mom isn't a very good cook, and definitely can't bake). But now she's expected to eat at least some every time her mom bakes them when she's home. (Just another advantage to being away at a boarding school most of the year).

Do they like having photos taken of themselves?

She's a little camera shy, depending on who she's with; any groups larger than maybe 5 and she'll try to duck around and take the picture herself instead. But small groups, she can handle it. And she'll take any photo with Tonks, so long as she changes something about her appearance to take the main attention off of her.

What’s one big way that your MC differs from the in-game canon?

Lucy does not like searching for the Vaults. She would have been content with maybe a few of his journals and an official, personal explanation from Dumbledore. Sh didn't need this. She doesn't want to be the one fixing this, but apparently no one else knows how or cares to try, so she feels responsible. She's also not in the same house as her brother.

If they’re an Animagus, why did you choose the form for them that you did?

Lucy becomes an animagus much later than in canon. She becomes one right before the 2nd war, in order to evade detection. She becomes a little sparrow bird, small and common enough to escape notice. I chose it because of its relation to the second Fable game, whose protagonist is named "Sparrow".

Background:

Katerina Letriva is someone who will do anything to get to where they want. She lies to people to get what she wants, she blackmails and doesn’t give a shit about who she hurts. However, she is v. loyal to those who she cares about, which is few and far between.

She is like this because of her first love, he left her not long after he turned her and she’ll never admit it but she is very hurt and angry at him for this. She became very cold and turned her emotions off as a newborn, which lead to her ripper stage.

She killed about half the population in her small town, and carried on in other small towns for over a hundred years. Her humanity was flicked on by her second love, who stayed with her until his untimely death. She held onto her humanity though, the guilt of what she had done had overwhelmed her. She refused to become that person again-- killing for fun.

That was until her best friend was killed by a hunter. She didn’t flick her switch off but instead kept her emotions in, refusing to let people in.

So, just to clarify, there are three layers right now:

There’s us, the players. In a sense, we could be considered ‘equal but different than the tier’, but we do still operate on a plane separate from the metafiction of Tsumugi’s ‘everyone in the world’.

There’s the ‘audience’, the outside world. This is the space that’s been breached at this point. And this... this is the level where the students are from, too - aka the reason I think we and the audience should exist as separate entities.

And there’s the domain of the Killing Game, a space created to play out this story, using real people - a place separated from reality... how? If Tsumugi is talking about a set, it could easily be the real world, which means they’ve been isolated somewhere. At the same time though, when they managed to reach the end of the escape tunnel and saw the outside world, they all started to choke and suffocate. So... could this be VR still? Or no? Can these existences known as Shuichi Saihara, the Ultimate Detective, Maki Harukawa, the Ultimate Assassin, Himiko Yumeno, the Ultimate Robot, K1-b0, the Ultimate Robot, and even Tsumugi Shirogane, the Ultimate Cosplayer, leave this space in any way, shape or form... or not at all? Is them suffocating ^ like that a sign that they literally cannot exist outside of this space?

Just as I initially suspected, though - they really were normal when they got in. So how did they decide who got what personality/talent, or was that random? I mean, that might be the case - it was potentially hinted by the motive video switch of Chapter 2..

But..... in what sense? Like the 16 talents were stored in those lights and they were ‘picked up’ by the most suited participant? How could you make sure there were no doubles? Or - and this is possible because of the vague language - did the talents build on what the student knew already? In which case, how would they know what the talents would end up being and plan the labs around them?

No, it would... have to be... the first one. Talents had its own selection in the flashback creating machine, though without verifying what the subcategories are it’s hard to confirm or deny anything... but I also can’t shake what Maki said at the beginning of the game? How it felt like their talents were given at random?

So... so they’re not only back where they started - completely isolated with everyone they’ve ever known and the world they knew completely out of reach (in this sense, dead/not actually existing are functionally the same), but they get a helping of a totally warranted existential crisis on top of that.

And... their bodies are real, so everyone else really is dead. No happy sdr2 ending. Well, unless I mental-gymnastics that to read ‘they have physical bodies to return to, but as manufactured personas it’s pointless.’

tbh I never found Izuru that intimidating as a final villain in the last game - but here? Terrifying. Maybe it’s in contrast to Junko here, who has the overbearing destructive personality of a tornado, but the quiet emptiness and lack of a higher purpose, of absolute futility that he stands for here - that scares me a lot.   Maybe it’s just because it seems to bring the concept of DR’s despair to a place that I can personally understand?

It reminds me of what Komaeda would say about his own motivation: it was watching everyone struggle with adversity, or the ‘despair of the killing game’, with the end goal of them ‘reaching hope’ - of seeing them overcome and grow stronger for it, that drove him forward. From the outside that makes sense; seeing other people overcome struggles, even ones so terrible, give us the mental strength to overcome our own problems. But for someone on the inside looking out... how perverse would that feel, to think that your suffering is basically being used as inspiration!p0rn? Knowing that there were voyeurs getting a kick out of your struggle?

What happens to game pieces after the game board is closed and put away?

Hm after mentioning that bit about how this is an early hint of the various companions’ arcs of becoming more similar to the Doctor in at least some respects this makes me want to read way too much into this unimportant little moment lol and contrast it to Ten’s self loathing melancholy about it in Journey’s End.

There’s also Parting of the Ways where Bad Wolf Rose mentions how she sees everything and the Doctor’s astonished and pleased w/ his “that’s what I see! And doesn’t it drive you mad?”

I suppose I should just call it something else to keep an eye on lol. How the Doctor feels about the companions becoming like him. I mean it’s not really a contrast between Doctors or even emotional states as it is between which aspects of himself the companions are reminding him of. Here it’s wonder and ease with new experiences and travel etc. In Journey’s End it’s willingness to destroy your own planet for the sake of the universe. Soooo yk. Having a different reaction to each is fair lol.

(And ofc this all makes the Doctor sound very self-centred and the show sound v Doctor-centred but really being a new entry into Doctor Who canon after so long a gap, with Doctor Who as a classic franchise that most viewers have a preconceived notion of, I think it’s a really good idea to explore the central conceit of the show and the character this way. As much as the companions are the point of view relatable characters who get the most character growth, the Doctor is the title character who stays when everyone else comes and goes.

It’s enlightening to see aspects of him rub off on his companions. Little parallels like Rose’s zest for adventure and Martha being a doctor (or nearly) herself and Donna investigating mysteries in Partners in Crime; big parallels like Rose building a time machine and being mysterious at Donna in Turn Left and Martha being willing to sacrifice her planet to save the universe and Donna, like, absorbing his brain or w/e. And Jack and Sarah Jane collecting companions of their own to inspire and be mysterious at lol.)

Her wet curls hung to the side of her neck as she let out a choked sob, her eye make-up made a mess on her cheeks. She shook her head vehemently. “No! It’s always been you! You are the most selfish, conceited, manipulative prick I have ever had the misfortune of knowing!”

He closed the distance between them in the empty street with his determined strides, grabbed her face, and kissed her. Her combative stance melted away to something else entirely as she desperately grasped at his clothes, his arms, his hair. They broke apart, breathing heavily, lids hooded, eyes searching.

The rain stopped.

“CUT! I think we got it this time! Take a fifteen, everyone!”

Their lips were still touching, even after they were told they were done. Hermione blinked herself out of her stupor.

Tom straightened and smirked down at her. “Looks like someone was enjoying herself.”

She glared at him and purposefully wiped the back of her wet sleeve against her mouth. “It’s called acting, you jackass.”

He scoffed. “Now, we both know you aren’t that good of an actress.”

“I’m obviously a better actress than you give me credit for, if I have to pretend to actually enjoy being within your presence,” she threw back at him venomously before storming off to her dressing room.

Tom would be lying if he said her venom didn’t sting just a tiny bit.
