Pile 01
Hey! I hope you're okay. You know, I miss you very much. If only I could back to that day or that version of myself, I would do better but it's too late but not that much. It's like, umm... to boost myself better kind of thought I really miss our moments together, messing with each other and crying like we're in some sort of a movie. This time it's different, it's like I've been consumed to responsibilities and nothing excites me that much. I wanna go back but I can't still, I'm glad I am at a better place financially speaking, spiritually, I don't know I'm not sure but moving this heavy message aside. I hope you're having fun right now make sure that the path you chose is different. I gotta go now, I have a lot of work to do see you again, sometime â¤
đ´ In summary, this one page of my notebook is not enough to say everything she wants to say, If I let her continue I'm afraid it will a whole chapter of a novel lol
đ´ A farm or barn may be significant
đ´ The part where she said different, screams something to me... don't be someone you're not because others their best for you, know when to take it and leave it (e.g in college course)
đ´ I imagined a girl with a long hair, oversized shirt in the rain, laughing her pain to let it go
đ´ She's talkative, my hand hurts writing this hahaha
đ´ You're an extrovert who may be mistaken as an introvert (Oops, I mean you're an introvert and people see you as an extrovert when you're alone, look how I write it wrong here toođ¤Ł)
đ´ Majority here seems to be teenagers like me xD

Live your life, I'm grateful that I did not t@ke my life (do you have su1cid@l thoughts pile 2?). Bro it's so peaceful to be here, I thought taking my you know will end it but I was wrong, something came to me that stopped me, it was an angel. She was warm and nice (tall too around 5'8, white pale skin color). I think I can't imagine myself to be here if not for her. Now I'm working a normal job with a normal life, enough for me to decide what I want. Ya get what I'm saying? I wasn't planning to have kids, but look! I have one (three or two for some of you). Life's so short and times so fast so keep doing you lad đ
Peace out! Oh before that, I just want to tell you to don't force anything okay? It'll come, THAT thing so yeah, let's talk again some time đ

đ´ THAT thing may mean a number of things, depending on you it can be your dream, or really THAT sezzz, etc.
đ´ The angel maybe a literal angel, someone you know (e.g friends, family, etc.) or you're future spouse
đ´ I imagined someone with a curly hair light brown and has beared, he's thin but tall, white skin as well
đ´ He's wearing a jacket, white tee, and long pants (pale dark blue)

I can't believe I'm already here, I'm so successful! I've got the benz and my Renz (man, dream guy/the one, whatever you call it). You've got the boss energy, trust me the people who helped you. I feel like the richest on the earth hhahah
Keep on going mama, the universe got us! Loyalty! Love yourself and other people and it will get back to you. It may not be exactly as the way you want it but, I promise you and I'm sure it going to be better, the best. You'll get it poppin! Ya know what I'm sayin?đ
đ´ Don't be consumed by fame, be yourself positively.
đ´ Some people here have the "Who you?" tendency in a negative way, please don't be like that. (Who you means treating the people you know as strangers because you have the bag and everything you dreamed of)
đ´ Remember being a bish to others will give you shi* to yourself, and your loved ones, your child may be the one who'll suffer if you don't change it

(<<< part one)
November 5th, 10am
There are a few things I have previously done in my life that I believe couldâve added to the cosmic debt I am now paying, such as:
-Telling Jimin that âtop meâ is a muggle slang for âbe my friendâ and watching as he asked people to top him.
-Stealing leaves from Professor Sproutâs garden to figure out which ones were smokable and therefore profitable (up until I ended up with a third nipple from some hacky hocus-pocus weed).
-Jinxing Namjoon. Twice. But I stand by that. 10/10 would do it again.
All of the above and many countless other things are finally catching up to me. Maybe I should get my shit together, do charity work or something. Maybe if I had actually helped Taehyung with his Divination homework like I said I would instead of just making up all the shitty ways to die written in the stars, karma wouldnât manifest itself in the shape of first years kicking my fucking ass in hand to hand combat without being allowed to fight back.
âLovely demonstration on the effects of a throat punch, Jungkookâ Coach Jin said, clapping his hands.
âI think the name is self-explanatory enoughâ I replied, voice cracking from the aforementioned punched throat.
âYou never knowâ.
Coach Jin hates me. I am 100% sure of that. The reasoning is unclear and Iâm honestly afraid to find out.
In the interest of maintaining myself less punched, I should invest some amount of energy to get him to like me.
November 5th, 11am
No energy was required to find out why that motherfucker didnât like me. Now his dislike is fully reciprocated. I hope he chokes on his own pretty, juicy lips.
See, what happened was that one of the first years had gotten pretty carried away by the prospect of punching my pretty face and knocked me straight out, sending my karma-striken ass to the Infirmary, ears ringing and nose bleeding.
Now, I repeat that I am not the most romantic dude on earth (but Iâm trying, okay? I even started reading Twilight to pick up some Hot Tips) but when all the signs are pointing towards that one person, who are we to go against fate? How can we spit on the forces of the universe like that? On Trelawneyâs weed-filled legacy?
How can I not interpret Y/N doing an internship at the Academy Infirmary as the highest, clearest sign that we are meant to be? I am a student at the academy prone to causing and suffering accidents and she is a healer! The only way this could be more perfect was if she was a 100 years old vampire and I were a very pale high school student.
But alas, every great love story has its Jacob.
November 5th, 12pm
In retrospect, I do realize that my metaphor was flawed, cause if Jin was Jacob, he wouldâve been into me, Bella - also why did I put myself as Bella and not Edward? - and if Jin was indeed into me he sure had a very weird way of showing it, completely ignoring me bleeding to probable death to flirt with the nurse, who I had claimed as my wife through the very legal power of âdibsâ.
âHi, Y/Nâ he said, leaning on my bed, hand resting on my bruised leg, making me whimper in pain embarrassingly, but also in a very manly way.
âHello, Professor Kimâ she said, professionally, not even bothering to look at him while tittering with her supplies.
âYou can just call me Jin, you know. Iâm only a couple years older than you.â
âThat would hardly be appropriateâ she answered, swatting his arm away from my bed. I think she said something else, but I honestly couldnât hear shit when she cradled my face between her soft (so soft!) hands and for a split, dream-like second I thought she was going to kiss me.
âYou shouldnât let your students get so carried away.â she ended up saying âPoor Mr. Jeon. Look at him!â
Damn.Â
I guess I did look kind of pitiful, all sweaty, bloody and bruised.Â
Probably looked like Iâve been french kissed by a bludger.Â
Coach Jin shrugged âHe doesnât look any worse than usual to me.â
The disrespect?
Before I had the chance to tell him very maturely to bugger the fuck off, Y/N stepped in âThen maybe you should be my next patient so I could get your eyes checkedâ she snapped and maybe those punches hit me harder than I initially assumed or maybe there was just something fundamentally wrong with me (place your bets!) but I thought that was very hot of her. Specially when she then proceeded to completely ignore Coach Jinâs presence and turn to me âHow are you feeling, Mr. Jeon?â
âYou can call me Jungkook, you know.â I mumbled. At least there was no stutter this time, so I would count it as a successful interaction had she not proceeded to ignore what I said too.Â
âIâm going to give you an ointment for that bruise and it should disappear in a couple hours. Luckily nothing seems to be broken, but I would avoid any sort of exercises or tiring activities for the day.â she said as she ushered me out of the room with a funky looking jar thrusted into my hands âAnd heyâ she called as I was about to leave the room with a very sour looking Coach Jin âtake care of yourself, Jungkook.â
WELL.
WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT.
Before I could fully express my happiness, Y/N closed the door to my face, but not even the hardwood hitting my bloody nose could wipe away my smile as I turned to my sullen coach.Â
âWhateverâ he grumbled âDonât think youâre off the hook. Youâre still with me tomorrow, Jeon.â
Bugger.Â
I guess if worse comes to worst, at least Y/N can still look after me.
Actually, thatâs not a bad idea at allâŚ

fangirlish - âInterview with the Vampireâ Roundtable Interviews: Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid & Bailey Bass Talk Dark Gifts & Immortality
Ahead of the release of AMCâs Interview with the Vampire, we participated in the seriesâ virtual roundtable interview with Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, and Bailey Bass. Before even getting into the insights the actors gave us into their experiences in playing these characters, letâs just be perfectly clear on a couple of things.
First off, these actors have done their research. And it shows.
And, for as great as the 1993 film was, the main research â especially for Reid â didnât really come from there. As he told us, creator Rolin Jonesâ âadaptation really spans the whole Vampire Chronicles book series.â Thatâs not to say that he doesnât âlove that filmâ (he does). But the series just doesnât really reference it.
For Bass, who âwasnât as familiar with the novel and the movieâ during the audition process, though, âwatching the movie was the fastest way [she] could be familiarâ with the material. And, as she told us, âseeing Kirsten Dunstâs performance, and seeing how loud and unapologetic Claudia was, made me even more excited to be able to play her.âÂ
Next, letâs talk about actors and perfect casting.
Anderson and Reid, who participated side-by-side from a single location, simply are Louis and Lestat. Not even just in the series. The energy between them â if watching the series itself wasnât already clear enough proof â is Exhibit A for why they were clearly the only two people who couldâve played these characters.
So, of course, no oneâs saying anybody here is actually a vampire, or actually part of this love story in real lifeâŚ
But there is just something very there in the two actors that screams, âwe were meant to be Anne Riceâs Brat Prince and his beloved sufferer.â
One of the places where this dynamic was most obvious, actually, was when we asked specifically about Louisâ use of certain Gifts in Interview with the Vampire.
Canonically, âI never revealed to him half my powers, and with reason, because he shrank in guilt and self-loathing from using even half of his ownâ (The Vampire Lestat, 2010 Ballentine Mass Market Edition, p. 498).
And yet, in AMCâs Interview with the VampireâŚwe see, perhaps, a slightly different Louis. We donât doubt thereâs still that old âguilt and self-loathingâ somewhere, but he certainly accesses some interesting powers.
We asked if we might learn about that change, or if it maybe has to do with Louisâ future companions, or something else. And well. Letâs just say the shared, loaded looks and the way the actors finished each otherâs sentencesâŚwas a lot.
Anderson started off the answer to this one, saying he knew what we were doing with this question, and Reid took over from there. âIâd just say, as somebody whoâŚis a bit of a geek on these lawsâŚAnd it is coming straight out of Anne Rice, when you drink from the vampire who turns you, you absorb their powers. Depending on how much you take, [it] also increases or decreases their powers.â
Here, Anderson picked the conversation back up in an attempt to keep everyone out of trouble. âI think, actually, we need to leave this question,â he told us. At that point, Reid interjected to agree, âyeah, just going to leave that there.â Anderson said weâd have to keep the question âa little bit more openâ but confirmed weâre âon a track.â
And then, Reid promised we could âfeel free to speculate.â Then again, as we were putting the subject to rest, and after Anderson thought theyâd already said too much, Reid did push back in true Brat Prince fashion. He insisted, âitâs rule that exists in the universe, though.â
Also on the subject of powers Louis and Lestat have in Interview with the Vampire:
One of the questions that came up during the roundtable interview was which of the powers each actor would like to have. Reid answered first, saying âinstinctively, you want to say flying. But the way he [Lestat] talks about flying is so terrifyingâŚitâs obviously a horrible experience. So, Iâm not going to go with flying.â
But Lestatâs other powers arenât so attractive to wish for either: âAnd equally, mind reading would be extraordinary. But then again, quite painful to hear what people really think of you.â Eventually, Reid settled on Lestatâs âability to hypnotize. His ability to get somebody to listen to him on an instant would beâŚnot something that I necessarily want, but it would be a nice little power that you could have in your back pocket.â
At this point, the particular type of laughter from Reid wasâŚpure Lestat. Not sure how else to describe it, so here we are. Another thing thatâs pure Lestat? From there, Reid took the question and answer in his own direction.
âI think, you know, while vampires â and while I love them and do love Anne Rice and have for a long time â do seem, like, incredibly intoxicating, I think that a lot ofâŚItâs actually quite a painful existence. And a lot of their gifts, and a lot of their power, come from a difficult place. And they challenge, and they work with them all the time.â He continued to say he thinks âLestat wants Louis to love him without his powers.â
He also pointed toward plenty of times in Interview with the Vampire where Lestat could use his full powers to get out of virtually any situation â and doesnât.
âBut itâs because, all the time, he is trying to be loved for himself. Heâs trying to be accepted for himself.â Even âwhen heâs violent, he often is violent just with his hands. He doesnât actually use hisâŚreal power. So, you know, again, I guess that goes to show that there is a lot of guilt and a lot of struggle within being such a powerful being. So, I donât know if I really want that. But itâs very, very fun to play.â
Anderson said heâd âtake the Fire Gift,â which prompted a whole discussion from Reid about whether or not Lestat even has that Gift at this point in time. Yes, he also mentioned getting more Blood from the Mother â Akasha. Though he didnât use her name, he didnât need to â too.
On immortalityâŚ
Getting into the guilt and struggle that Reid mentioned when discussing powers fits perfectly with the concept of how much of a true struggle immortality can be. And, for those of us whoâve read The Vampire Chronicles, Anne Riceâs vampires definitely struggle. Yes, even Lestat.
So, what are the actorsâ thoughts on immortality?
For Anderson, itâs âa process of endurance and acceptanceâ thatâs âdifferent for the individual.â Later, heâd add that it gives you âall the timeâ to âfind any kind of acceptance of self.â But to have that time, âyou have to keep going. You have to wake up â every night â and decide toâŚto be there. Which I guessâŚis a decision that we make every day as humans. But it has different implications, of course, with immortality.â
Reid said this is âone of the main, dynamic questions of the show and of Anne Riceâs work.â In the universe of Interview with the Vampire, âyou either embrace that â you take it on, head on, and you justâŚdive down the hall of being this creature. Or you fight itâŚAnd they all, every vampire in Anne Riceâs world, at some point, struggles with it.â Therefore, to him, âimmortality would be amazing. But, you also lose all the people you love. But then, also, you might turn all the people you love into a vampire. And then, you realize they didnât like you in the first place anyway.â
And what about Bailey Bass? In her own words, âI would walk into the sun.â For her, âlife is precious because we donât get to live forever, you know? Thereâs such a limited amount of time, and thatâs why itâs so wonderful.â Sheâs also worried sheâd âwant to turn someone to have a spouse,â only to wind up stuck with someone who actually doesnât like her. âThatâs just miserable.â Â
âŚand extremes.
One place where immortality plays a large role is in how Anne Riceâs vampires are, as Anderson put it, âeverything at the same time.â And one of the things about Louis and Lestat âthatâs so special is that they do live in this incredibly complex, likeâŚItâs like a cosmic scale.â And, sure, some of their extreme behavior âhappens in the horror genre quite a lotâ with âcertain archetypes that you have to kind of â that you have toâŚcheck off. (Not Chekhov, check off! [Insert laughter with Reid and a comment on Chekhov plays here.]). However, itâs all ârooted in humanity, and itâs rooted in things, sometimes, that we donât want to reveal about ourselves.â
Ever the scholar on all things Vampire Chronicles, Reid really tied this all back to living forever. For him, we all know vampires live forever. And Rice âreally hammers that home, and Rolinâs really beautifully picked up on it.â Because of this, âendurance is a huge part of being a vampire. Itâs not only just endurance to survive, to not walk into the sun because youâve had enough and you canât go on; itâs endurance to make life interesting. Itâs endurance to make every day that you wake up â or every night that you wake up â not the same, monotonous merry-go-round of existence. And so, they do make things extreme. They are dramatic; they are Extra; they are a a lot, you know?â
Part of this extreme and Extra behavior goes back to the fundamental struggle of being a Rice vampire. âTheyâre aware that they are bad; theyâre aware that they kill to survive. And thereâs that constant push and pull between, you know, âdo I embrace it, do I enjoy it? Or do I fight it, and do I hate myself?â And then, that really just comes in, over and over again, throughout the books, you know? Particularly when you start looking at the Catholicism and the olderâŚkind of Children of SatanâŚand all these kind of elementsâŚthereâs that push and pull between what they should be doing as demons and then, what they could be doing as conscious, emotional beings.â
Yes, he mentioned the Children of Satan. And yes, we were like âomg.â
Anyway. Continuing with what Reid had to sayâŚ
âSo, yeah. Itâs very extreme stuff. But itâs super fun â all you, sort of, dream of doing as an actor. So, to be given the license to do it isâŚvery fun.â
Bass agreed, saying that dynamic was âfreeingâ for her as an actor. And, âlike Sam was saying, every day has to â every night â has to be exciting and wanting to create something new.â For Claudia, specifically, she feels like â because all her feelings are even more intense, being trapped in a 14-year-old body and her brain never fully developing, sheâs always going off her first instinct. Thatâs really exciting as an actor because I felt like I could never do anything wrong on set. Which is always fun.â
A walk through history
But, one thing that immortality allows for â that vampire stories, and especially Riceâs vast world, promise â is getting to see a lot of history. So, we asked the cast of Interview with the Vampire what about the seriesâ chosen time period worked for them.
For Anderson, âthereâs something really fitting about the period that Rolin chose to set this interpretation in. I think 1910, the 1910s, in New Orleans is like this sort of secret period in New Orleansâ history. And, Storyville was kind of â it was â like a Red Light district, ultimately, where taboos were made legal for this period of time.â
Eventually, though, âStoryville became like this gentrified thing. And it became like a pariah in, in sort of decent âCaucasian society.â In quotations. Thatâs [important] â Iâm putting some big quotations there,â he said while doing actual air quotes.
So, to tie this back into the supernatural element of Interview with the Vampire, Anderson noted, âI think that really speaks to something about how vampires are seen. This is a period of time where it kind of â it almost feels like it wouldnât be that shameful to be a vampire.â
At this point, Reid hummed in agreement. And weâre pretty sure we were nodding along, actually. Anyway.
Anderson continued, telling us, âthatâs something that is attractive to LestatâŚLike, it makes so much sense. And it also feeds into Louisâ shame.â
He also noted that the time period is âvery difficult to research. It was very hard to find archival material, particularly [about] Free People of Color and Creole people.â But that struggle to find good research materials is actually an advantage. âIt feels like you can put fantasy in that period, and it feelsâŚIt almost grounds it even more.âÂ
Here, Reid noted that âthe music, as well, from that period of time isâŚjust amazing.â Which, of course, isâŚagain, fitting for an actor playing the Brat Prince to say. As we all know, Lestat does love his musicâŚ
For Bass, the costumes were particularly important. âI think it was perfect that, when Claudia starts to question who she is and why she is, is right in the â20s. And thatâs when women started wearing less clothing.â So, âbecause of that, she actually steals someoneâs dress. Because sheâs, like, âthatâs great. Thatâs going to make me feel like Iâm older. Thatâs going to make me step into a woman and not a little girl anymore.'â
This brought up more questions and discussions about the costumes from other journalists on the Zoom call.
How costumes contribute to the feel of Interview with the Vampire
For Anderson, trying on the costumes for the first time, he just âfelt like Louis.â What came with that feeling? Well, if youâve either read or seen Interview with the Vampire, you know that means tons of contradictions.
âHe wants to stand out â he doesnât want to blend into the background. And thereâs, like, an irony and like a push and pull about that, that he also doesnât want to be looked at. And heâsâŚAnd heâs carrying a lot of fear about himself and about being found out in lots of different ways.â
But, despite him not wanting to be looked at, âsome of the purpose of Louisâ costuming is that he kind of glows. That he stands out. His color is gold.â When Anderson called it âpeacocking, a lot of the time,â Reid laughed. (Thereâs that Louis/Lestat interplay again.)
But itâs really true! And for Anderson, that feeling of the costumes maybe being an extra element âthat kind of draws [Lestat] in. Not that thatâs Louisâ intention,â that was just one more thing to help the actor figure out how to carry himself.
Reid mentioned how out of place Lestat is when we first meet him in Interview with the Vampireâs premiere. âHeâs kind of still carrying the remnants of the century where heâs come from before because heâs come from a big journey. And then, he has to sort ofâŚget a makeover â an update.â
(Here, Anderson snickers. Sorry. Thereâs no other word for it.)
Reid called the makeover âa bit clashyâ because Lestat âdoesnât fit in these clothes.â But, from there, costume designer Carol Cutshall âfound this way of incorporating just very subtle elements of bondage into the costumes. So, the waists would be much smaller. The boots would be made of patent leatherâŚYou know, heâd try, like, a silly boater hat on because he knew it was sort of, like, ridiculous and funny.â He also noted they were âalways looking for the keys that come back to the character, even if heâs in a time thatâs not necessarily âhisâ time.â
Bass had similar praise for Cutshall. In that vein, she noted that âthe costumes were so intentional. And thatâs why putting them on made us really feel like our characters. Thereâs a story through the costumes as our characters evolve.â Additionally, she pointed out that âwe pick our clothes in the morning. So, thatâs something that we do intentionally. And Carol was aware of that. So, wherever the characters were in the story, she made sure that the clothing aligned.â
Another fun tidbit? Everyone had fangs and lenses. And, while others only had two, Claudia had four. âThatâs so Claudia. Of course she has four and not two, you know?â
And just to end on a fun noteâŚ
Anderson, Reid, and Bass all have other vampire stories theyâve loved â outside of Interview with the Vampire and the rest of Riceâs Chronicles.
Reid âwas obsessed with Bram Stokerâs Dracula as a kid. And Gary Oldman playing Dracula,â while Bass is âabsolutely obsessedâ with Twilight. As a huge David Bowie fan, Anderson thinks âThe Hunger is amazing and kind ofâŚIt bears something quite Riceian about it.â
Which, for the record, âRiceianâ is our new favorite word.
Continuing with Anderson, he says of The Hunger, âitâs very existential and questions â lots of questions about aging, more specifically, and loneliness. And that kind ofâŚthe desperate grab for, âI donât want to be alone, but do I want to be the opposite of alone with this person?ââ
Riceian indeed.
So, if you wanted more vampire content, there you go.

Seven Sentence Sunday
Thank you @nancys-braids
This is something I started in Oct but has been on my mind again. It's Jack Carter/Nathan Stark from Eureka. And more than seven sentences because I can't count. Inspired by
~
Next he had to go to the high school for a Halloween prank war that resulted in one teacher looking like the Wolfman and the other like a Smurf. It ended in one assault arrest. Apparently the teachers were competing for the attention of the new drama instructor and got jealous. The instructor told them both to go to hell. The cafeteria worker passed out popcorn while dressed as Loki which some how ended up with them getting the coveted date.
He was not feeling Halloween this year. The terrible storm was not helping him. While it might be great atmposher if he was at home with a hot drink and horror movies, it was not great for having to patrol. Still heâd switched with Jo because she wanted to see her nieceâs first experience trick-o-treating. It should be interesting since she was dragging Fargo and Zane with her.
And now there was reported activity at Nathan Starkâs cabin. Given the man had been dead for years there shouldnât be any activity. The property was in trust for Kevin who was attending GDâs Halloween party so it wasnât him.
And then as if the universe decided Jack should be the punching bag for the day his vechile just gave out about half a mile from the cabin. And the radio wasnât working because of course it wasnât. Jack slammed the door as he got out to walk to investigate was likey a short circuit or a wild animal.
Jack was still maybe a quarter of mile from the cabin when the clouds seemed to just unzip all the water on top of him. Making visibilty even harder and the ground worse for good traction.
âFUCK!â In a blink Jack was face first in the mud.
He was now completely soaked and covered in mud. That was also making it difficult for him to get proper footing again. He slipped harder the second time and felt something twist in his ankle.
âFUCK!â Jack wondered how long he could just lay there before he was missed to much. This might be going down in his books as the worst Halloween. He just sighed deeply closing his eyes trying gather the energy to try getting vertical again.
âYou look like you need some assistance, Sherrif Carter,â came an impossible voice. The voice of a dead man.
Jack opened his eyes only to see Nathan Stark holding an umbrella and looking down at him with a frown.
âI didnât think I hit my head that hard.â
âI wouldnât be surprised if you actually did hit hard enough to give yourself damage but I am not a halucination.â
âThatâs exactly what a halucination would say. That isnât proof.â
âHow about this for proof?â Nathan folded up the umbrella and threw the umbrella on to the porch. He then picked up Jack in a bridal hold without acting like it was any difficulty at all.
âNot really because I donât remember Nathan ever carrying me.â Jack felt his teeth wanting to chatter as the cold began to sink into his body.

Hey, WIP Wednesday is a thing, right?
Maybe I can make it my thing? Let's find out.
Red Hood Steph, anyone?
~
Age 20
One moment, Stephanie Brown slept, sprawled out like a starfish in her underwear on a hotel boxspring mattress. The next, the bed vanished from beneath her and she thumped gracelessly to the floor with a startled yelp.
Her eyes opened to find themselves looking once more through her helmetâs display, and she didnât need to look to know she was once again in full Red Hood get-up. She could hear the wind and the uncomfortably close pattering of raindrops. She sighed deeply, staring at the ceiling of the now empty, decrepit room, then tilted her head to see the wall to the outside missing. Old scorch marks and a wrecked exterior revealed the location to have been victim to explosive force at some point.
The air was damp. It was raining. It was always raining in Gotham.
Stephanie lay where sheâd fallen, unmoving on the dirty floor of what was now an abandoned hotel. âGood morning to you too, universe,â she drawled.
She should get up, figure out the lay of the land of this new Gotham. Hide from whatever version of the bats existed here before the energy spike from the dimension shift lured them over. With her luck, theyâd be vampires again. Sheâd just finished decapitating her evil vampire self.
â...Five more minutes,â she decided, and closed her eyes.
Exhaustion pulled her back into a fitful doze and she drifted. The sensation of being exposed kept her jerking back to awareness every few minutes, but her hyper-vigilance frequently kept her in this cycle, so sheâd take what she could get.
The uncomfortable half-sleep seemed to drag on for an eternity, and yet it still wasnât long enough before it was interrupted.
Adrenaline spiked and her eyes shot open just before thuds to her left signaled the impact of feet onto the nearby floor. Two figures stood at the wrecked entrance of the room, the low light giving her minimal details without turning her night vision on. Not worth the glow that would give away her state of consciousness. Both newcomers were capes, though only the shorter one was actually wearing a cape. Stephanieâs armor hid her sudden tension, so she kept her breathing deep and slow.
âIf I stay reeeal still, maybe they wonât see me,â she thought wryly.
âIs thatââ there was a choked-off noise from the taller figure. âWhy does he have...?!â The sputtering voice was only vaguely familiar. His outline was too slim to be Damian, but too tall and well-built to be the rich kid. The timbre of his voice was an adultâs, anyway. Not Dukeâs, though. One of the extended family?
Oh, wait. If she was picking up on the subtext of this guyâs freak-out correctly, theyâd expected the Red Hood to be a guy. That meant gender swap or a sidekick remix.
âMight be an imitator,â another voice suggested, âbut no oneâs had eyes on Red Hood all night.â That voice she recognized. Teenaged. Wiz kid vibe. Sharp enunciation.
âUgh,â she thought. âThe rich kid.â No matter how mixed up or messed up the universe, there he was: the Batâs third Shadow. She could only see him in her periphery, but it looked like he was fiddling with something in his hands. Probably getting readings off the residual energy in the area.
âMagic transformation?â he theorized. âTime-traveling successor?â His fidgeting paused as he eyed her still form. âHey, is she dead?â
The other one stepped closer and dropped to a knee, giving her a clearer view of him. Shaggy dark hair; movie star cheekbones; domino; minimal armor on a striped bodysuit. âNightnight or something. Night Knight?â She hadnât really interacted with him in the one version of Gotham sheâd seen him in. She wasnât sure he even existed in her home dimension.
âNo,â he called out. âSheâs breathing. Just unconscious. And my moneyâs on âbrainwashed into thinking sheâs the real one.ââ His hand went to his utility belt.
Bats were predictable. Even a bat Stephanie was only vaguely aware existed. Thatâs why she was ready when Nightguy came at her with a syringe filled with what she presumed was a sedative so she could be moved to a secure location.
The lenses on her helmet blinked on, startling him while the hand closest to him snapped up and gripped the side of his hand. In the same movement, she twisted to pull herself up and into his space before shoving his neck with her other forearm, using his resistance to get her feet under her. With a slide and a shift, she got a good angle to push his head down and hopped over him, giving him a good kick as she passed to give herself momentum.
âNice to meet you too, pretty-boy,â she called over her shoulder as she fled. Her voice came out monotone and tinny through the modulation of her helmet, but she liked to think it added personality.
After the last couple months of world-hopping, Stephanie had learned to infer what relationship the bats had with their local Red Hood based on their reception toward a new one showing up. This group had thought there was a possibility she was a magically transformed version of their original. Immediately trying to ensure she stayed unconscious while they moved her⌠well, that was a pretty blatant hint this worldâs Red Hood wasnât in on like⌠family dinners or game nights. Whatever the good little boys and girls did when they didnât have the kind of âtroubled historyâ that put them on the outs with Bruce.
Nah, he was like her. Guilty until proven innocent.
She tried not to take this Nightguyâs approach personally, even if she definitely took it extremely personally.
âWow, Bruce raises ONE murderous assassin child, and suddenly every kid with a shady background is a potential villain.â To be fair, both Damian and Stephanie were, in fact, categorized as villains. And these days, Stephanie could also be categorized as a murderous assassin. It was possible Bruce had a point. But Stephanie was pretty sure it never paid to be fair to a billionaire, much less Bruce Wayne.
Fuck that guy.

How about a 24 from your Spotify wrapped drabble? My lucky number <3 and if you're willing to give us a peak of some other characters we didn't have a chance to meet properly yet, that would be most lovely. Say, Mergus or Tilda or Ben?
I apologize for the long wait. Please have some Tilda being sorta cute with Ben as they lounge in bed. (And if you missed it, there's also this snippet featuring Tilda I did last year for Whumptober.)
Spotify Wrapped #24: "Afterglow" by Scandroid
Words: 808
Content Advisory: Sexual themes and banter (nothing explicit depicted), thoughts of cannibalism(?), reference to past murder/violent events
Though Tilda remains awake, the wolf beneath her skin sleeps. Even if it were conscious (alert, aware?), it wouldnât have had the energy to pace behind its cage of human flesh and bone like usual, ready to escape through the first weak spot it found. Ben has made sure of that.
Tilda closes her eyes, listening to the sedate beat of Benâs heart directly beneath her ear. Each of his breaths lifts and lowers her as if she were a skiff riding an ocean swell. Heâs hot as a furnace wherever their bare bodies touch, brimming with life despite conventional wisdom about vampires. More often than not, Tilda finds sheâs the one whoâs always cold, as if the wolf has swallowed her core, stealing all warmth for itself. Little about her life since she stole the family curse has followed expectations. Thatâs not a complaint more often than not.
Benâs chest hair tickles her cheek as Tilda tilts her head to peer up, up, up at his sleeping face. Thereâs just so much of him in every direction. (Then again, sheâs relatively small, even compared to national averages). She tries to imagine having met him on campus and a smile flickers across her face. His crooked nose and scarred knuckles wouldâve made him an outlier among the veneers and surgically-precise symmetry of the countryâs elite children. The sleek young men of the rowing and lacrosse teams wouldâve scattered before him like jackals wary of a lion. Her smile turns into shaking with silent laughter.
Thereâs a glimmer of aged whiskey-brown as one of Benâs eyes cracks open. âWhatâs the punchline, blondie? Not my performance, hopefully.â
âNo. Just wondering if I wouldâve gone home with you if weâd met at a party at my university or something.â
Both eyes are alert and fixed on her now. âAnd? Whatâs the verdict?â
âIn your favor.â
A seismic rumble of satisfaction comes from the depths of his torso. âGroovy.â
âI wouldâve left before you woke up, though. Nothing personal.â Sheâd gone into the majority of sexual encounters simply to feel something. Whether that was wild abandon or disgust hadnât mattered. Whoever sheâd gone to bed (or into a bathroom stall, or backseat of a car, or dark corner of a bar) with had been unwitting sacrifices in a ritual. One that allowed her emotions to rise from the grave and cavort before the sun rose again.
âOuch. Canât let a guy have a little pride for even a second, huh?â
âYour egoâs not fragile.â Heâs easily among the most generous and easygoing people, human or otherwise, sheâs ever met. Even at times when his usual warmth blazed into rage and his smile sharpened to a snarl itâs always been on behalf of his friends, his family. Itâs one of the many things she loves about him.
She catches her choice of words under a mental jar to examine later.
Ben slides a hand up her spine and into her hair, massaging her scalp. Rough calluses on his fingers and the heel of his palm make for a pleasant kind of scratchiness. He easily cradles the entire back of her skull. âDoesnât mean I donât like hearing compliments once in a while.â
Closing her eyes, Tilda rests her chin on top of her hands to give him a better angle. âHmm. Well, I wouldnât dream of leaving now.â
âYou do look pretty cozy there.â
âI like listening to you. Especially with all the different turns of phrase youâve picked up over the years. And youâre funny.â
âSo, Iâm good in the sack and I could hack it as a clown, is what Iâm hearing.â
She considers mentioning that her mouth waters whenever the wolf first catches his scent. That every time she has to stop herself from biting and ripping and digging into the softest parts of him until she can work outwards into chewy muscle and the crunch of bone. Instead, she tells Ben, âYouâre okay at baseball, from what I can tell.â
An earthquake of laughter erupts underneath her. Tilda grips Benâs shoulders to keep from being shaken loose.
âIâll take it,â he says once the tremors have settled. âHell, thatâs three more things than some people said Iâd ever be good for.â
âReally? Not even at fighting?â
âSweetheart, if I was any good my beak wouldnât look like Godâs hand slipped while slapping me together.â
âYouâre a lover, not a fighter then.â
âI got a lot of endurance and know how to take an ass-beating, is what I mean.â
She drags her fingertips over the swell of his chest and down his sides, indenting muscle and fat. Her nails leave faint red trails behind for an instant before they heal. Tilda smiles when he shivers.
âHow much endurance?â she asks.
The wolf sleeps, but that doesnât mean she has to.

oh forgot to say but was thinking (in the scenario where beatrice is a runaway from her coven) that beatrice joins a pack w shannon shortly after sheâs settled in w ava & lilith and is friends w both of em
thinking for comedic purposes beatrice probably already knew of shannon b4 beatrice was turned, and probably their mutual friends were very unsubtle about shannon being a werewolf, but beatrice thought they were a larping furry group or something, (tbf thatâs actually a semi common thing) and anyway when beatrice meets shannoj sheâs jusy like *spiderman pointing meme* youâre the same shannon as maryâs gf shannon???
iâm thinking pre werewolfification, beatrice was in a friend group with camila, mary, yasmine & dora, probably met in college, but they initially werenât that close (either because beatrice was closed off, general Life stuff preventing em from being able to grow closer, and then later on when the werewolf stuff popped in none of them were werewolves save for bea obviously which is obviously a pretty good gap in the âtrying to connect w friendsâ thing)
theyâre probably all supernatural tho idk what theyâd be (though i have been picturing as like, a comedically small fairy, like just the size of *half* a thimb)
Imagine if they were all in the same college study group or something, and Bea was the only human at the time. It's an episode of Community waiting to happen.
I think Shannon and Mary are wolves. Bonus points if they knew about Bea's family and tried to warn Bea before it was too late, only to be left picking up the pieces in the aftermath. Dora could be a wolf too, or maybe another kind of shapeshifter. Camila gives off strong fae vibes, and her predisposition towards ranged combat is serving Wild Hunt energy. Yasmine might be a wizard in training, taking magic classes in addition to her normal university classes (the most chaotic double major imaginable, pray for her).
And of course, none of this is news to Ava or Lil, who have been around the supernatural block more than once, and may even know more about their respective species than the girls do themselves. Maybe Yasmine mentions some crazy important ancient tome or spellbook that's been lost for centuries, and Ava's like "oh that? We've been using it as a coffee table book for the past 200 years."
What's Mama S? A fae? A vampire? A really powerful witch? Any could work.

So I've been living in my Small Town Paranormal Brain a lot lately and it's been really fun.
It currently has 5 main properties and like a mini idea plus a currently just self indulgent next gen that I'm... working on.
And I'm going to talk about it because I am excited
Blackwood
Blackwood is the first. It's the first one I came up with and it's going to be the first series I start with because most of the other series actually branch off of scenes and characters that are in book one of Blackwood.
The working title of Book One is Call of the Wolf but I'm not like, obsessed with it so we will see.
Blackwood is about a small town where supernatural creatures live without the fear of being hunted. They can't be like- openly supernatural because that would escape the confines of the town, but they don't have to look over their shoulders in fear that a hunter will show up and murder them.
Call of the Wolf is about Novak, a lone wolf who is miserable and has been for the past nearly forty years. One morning she wakes up to find a man one her property, nearly mauled to death. She takes him in and patches him up and in the process realizes, he wasn't attacked by just any beast. It was a werewolf, and that puts her in deep shit. She's only allowed to live in the town without joining the pack because she swore she'd never try to start her own pack. Now she and her amnesiac new friend have to prove her innocence and maybe try to get his memories back.
The other books in the series will follow other people in the town, including the Alpha of the pack, the sweet as pie witch with a dark past and the mysterious man in the mansion on the hill who Never. Ever. comes out and into town.
The Kyteler Academy
On a lone island, away from prying human eyes, you will find the Kyteler Academy, a university of magic that one doesn't apply to. When you get the red letter, you will be summoned to your destiny. Cove Pruitt does not want to go to the school. She doesn't want a destiny and she certainly doesn't appreciate being snapped out of her warm cozy bed to deal with the mean girls and dickhead boys of the magic world.
Cove is a character who will appear in Call of the Wolf. She has been raised by her aunt, who isn't that much older than her, and is perfectly happy in her little life. This is going to fulfill my dream of writing dark academia. We will ignore the fact that I am in fact a moron. And I'm going to have to do a lot of reading to figure out how to do this right. It's going to be a small ensemble cast of characters all of whom ended up at this elite academy, some are happy about it, some aren't, and one schemed to get himself there alongside the Pruitt witch.
Something Wicked
Darby Vander Wende is one of many in a long line of hunters. Determined to rid the world of unnatural beings, She broke the mold in her family by being the first Vander Wende Woman to pick up the stake and protect humanity. When a hunt goes sideways, she finds herself at the mercy of a vampire with an attitude problem and face to face with a secret her father desperately wanted to keep hidden.
I decided I wanted to make a couple of OCs who would be 1) in this original story and 2) who I was going to make a bunch of fandom AUs for. And I do plan on doing this with Darby and Bliss, the two main characters in this story. I have a side blog for them, I'll link it when I have it more figured out. But Mostly I am very excited for this. Darby's love interest is a pretty freshly made vampire who does not have the energy for This Bitch (tm)
Meanwhile Bliss is a witch with her own demons. A Werewolf boy who won't take the hint and a human man, who shouldn't know anything about their world. But he just keeps sticking his stupid nose where it doesn't belong.
Violent Delights
Piper Lancaster is having an identity crisis. She spent the first 19 years of her life knowing that hunting was what she was meant to do. It was the work of her brothers, her father, her ancestors all the way back to before they even made it to America. But now, after a tragedy come to life, she's unsure of everything she thought she knew. But life must go on and when she gets a call to come save a family from a poltergeist, she ends up in deep water as a voice appears in her head, and it's no ghost.
I just like the idea of a girl possessed by a demon and they kind of share the space in her head, she's too strong for him to completely take over, but she can't rid herself completely. idk if this is going to be a series, or a single book, maybe a duology? but I am quite very excited about it.
The Adventures of Mavis Pearl
a lil cozy story about a girl who's grandmother passes away and leaves Mavis a cozy old home in the town of Blackwood. I still have very little clue what exactly I'm going to do with this. Is Mavis a witch? Maybe? Fae? Also maybe. All I know is she lives in a house filled with happy memories
Random One-shots/short stories
I have a lot of characters planned for Blackwood that won't have full stories but as part of the character building, I think I'm going to write a bunch of fun little bits and pieces about them (Like Rose from the 'famous' Rose's Diner and her love story with her husband back in the 70's when he'd roll up in his fancy car and impress all the ladies but her) Or how Taylor De Luca's (who will star in book 3 of Blackwood) parents met while they both worked at the infamous Action Park
idk It's just meant to be fun.
Legacy of Night
This is the next gen.
Bijoux and Manon are sisters who escape a magical cult, the cult had plans to sacrifice Bijoux to their 'god' and the night before it was meant to happen, Manon, her younger sister, executes a plan to get them out of there when she realizes what's really going on. The two escape to Blackwood and meet the children of a lot of the people from previous stories.
Is it self absorbed to be obsessed with my own world? No. No it's not. And I'm not sorry.

Thank you for the tag, @cicaklah! Your picks were great and Iâm adding them to my reading list <3
Rules: List ten books that have stayed with you in some way, donât  take but a few minutes, and donât think too hard - they donât have to  be the ârightâ or âgreatâ works, just the ones that have touched you.
As a preface, Iâve been a voracious reader since childhood. I typically prefer fiction and I remember more of the stories Iâve read than I do their creators and titles (to my great dismay). There came a point in my life when I wasnât able to dedicate much energy to read for fun and instead focused on reading for my studies and my professional duties, which got to the point that I was getting quite burnt out on one of my favorite hobbies of all time. So I did think harder on this list than I shouldâve because the past is somewhat weighted, but Iâm hoping to add to my list of impressionable books and new memories in the near future.
In no particular order:
Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien - I like to joke about the *thorough* detailing that Tolkien often provides, but I really do love LOTR and the fantasy and lessons it offers. But what I love most about it is my mother and I read it together when I was young, and I was so engrossed in the pages that I would immediately point out where we left off amongst the many generous details.
Magical young wizard books & Chronicles of Narnia series - Iâm tagging these two series together (and leaving the obvious young wizard title vague) because these were books my grandmother would read to us. It was nice to share these stories with her, which also led to her taking us to some of the films and sewing a witch costume for me for Halloween.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley - I read this for a class on gothic literature in film and it left such a mark on me. I have many thoughts but Iâll only offer one recommendation: please give this a chance if you havenât already.
Dracula by Bram Stoker - I also read this for the first time in the gothic class mentioned above. It was really cool to analyze the text and how the vampire legend has been adapted differently over time in media. Plus, I enjoyed the horror and spooky pacing.
Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White - like I said, I read many many many (did I say many?) books as a child. But one of the strongest memories I have is visiting the library, finding this book on the shelf, and being so engrossed with the story of the trumpeting swan. Itâs nice to get caught up in a book like that.
Tortall Universe by Tamora Pierce (specifically the characters Alanna the Lioness, Kel, Daine) - Ironically, I bought a later series of the Tortall Universe before realizing I had the original books on my shelf, not yet read. I really wanted stories with strong female characters and these three were fun to read and explore the world of.Â
The Prince and The Dressmaker by Jen Wang - this book, OH this book, I love it so very much. I read it in less than 24 hours. I shouldâve savored it, but I was just that taken with the story. If you like graphic novels or want to give one a try, I would highly recommend this one.
The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis - brutal is really the best word to describe this book. It contains a lot of triggering content (so please protect yourself, dear reader) and isnât something I would normally pick, but itâs been nearly 7 years now and I still strongly remember the emptiness it left me with when I finished it.
The Yellow House by Patricia Falvey - Iâll be quite honest, I hardly remember the story itself. What I do remember is the show-and-tell that day from one of our book club readers. She shared stories from when she lived in Ireland and brought in items from her friends, and it was a lovely and emotional experience to witness.
Agent 47: Birth of the Hitman by Christopher Sebela and Jonathan Lau - As I mentioned, I found myself so burnt out from reading that it had been difficult to commit to a book for quite a while. Fanfiction really rekindled my love for reading and I decided to check out the Hitman comics. I was so happy to have the drive to finish a book again! I enjoyed the comics and the new headcanons they caused.
If you have a list of books or readings youâve enjoyed, please feel free to share them! :)

New Best Spuds || Jade & Marcus
Setting: The Fryer's Club
Time: Mid-August
Parties: @highoctanegem & @thenavysealkie
Triggers: None
Summary: Jade and Marcus go to a local fry restaurant to settle a debate between soggy and crispy fries. In the process, they get to know each other better.
Jade did not think her silly little fries question (that she totally posted to start discourse cause she was so bored in her apartment) wouldâve gotten her to this moment. Waiting to do some kinda taste test with a new friend. Pretty much like one of those old school Youtube videos posted by people who were all facing lawsuits these days. Fun!
(By the way, she wouldâve made the best youtuber. If it werenât for the vampires getting in the way of her dream. She even had the family drama to monetize. And the ukulele. But, whatever. That ship had sailed).
Sitting across Marcus, she smiled politely as the waiter set everything they had ordered on the table. Both crispy and soggy type of fries. The Fryerâs club was definitely a hidden gem. Jade, who was new to town, would've never found out about it if she hadnât picked up an order from this place a few days ago. It was fate, really. The universe knew she was in need of a fry intervention. âCan I be like, actually honest with you for a second?â she leaned closer, eyes shining mischievously. She grabbed her glass, making a dramatic pause to sip on her Sprite. âIâŚso, actually. I loveâŚcrispy friesâ she held her head down, feigning shame. She tapped both hands on the table, letting out an exaggerated sigh. âThe jig is up! Iâm afraidâ.
Marcus was a bit reluctant to meet up with the random woman he had met on the internet. After all, he was just trying to set people straight on which fries were superior, and now here he was at the Fryerâs Club ready to meet up with somebody. Some people just couldnât believe others until they see for themselves. Not that Marcus could have blamed her, he was just as skeptical about her ridiculous soggy fries superiority.Â
So now here he was across the table from a girl who seemed to be very energetic. Not that he minded, he could use a little positivity and energy after all. Marcus was very excited to see a big basket of nice, hot, golden crispy fries laid out in front of them, they smelled delicious. Suddenly, Jade leaned in and said she had a confession of some sort to make.Â
Great thought Marcus. She had been a bit flirtatious in their messages over the internet, but he really was hoping she wouldnât make an awkward situation in a public place like this. Heâs had women hit on him before, of course. Most took the news of him being gay pretty positively, others not so much. Crying women was already a bit much for Marcus to deal with, but a crying woman in public? Heâd rather skip town and change his name than have to deal with the inevitable dirty looks people would shoot at him.Â
Marcus leaned in very attentively, already planning how heâd respond before Jade even began to speak. She⌠liked crispy fries? The whole time?Â
âSo⌠you have good taste after all, then? Thank God, I was a little worried there was something wrong with you. Now weâre just two crispy fry loving buddies hanging out.â He let out a nervous laugh and quick sigh of relief. âThanks for showing me this place by the way! I can already tell this is gonna be good, so letâs dig in.â
Marcus looked nervous right before Jade revealed her truth, and she couldnât help wondering why that was. âDid you think I was gonna say I killed someone or something?â she grinned, taking two crispy fries and dipping them in ketchup before bringing them to her mouth. âYou looked so scared for like, a split secondâ she continued, giving an innocent shrug. âI can promise you, I canât even hurt a fly. Like, itâs so icky, you know? No. I canât, I couldnât do it, ewâ She shuddered at the idea of swatting a fly. And yeah, maybe it was a little funny considering what she did to vampires but like... One of those was technically alive and one wasnât. So her logic was totally flawless.
Jade grabbed a clean fork, her eyes darting to the other basket, filled with cheesy goodness. âI have excellent tasteâ resting her head in her hand, she winked at him. âYup, yes I do love crispy fries. I mean, Iâm pretty sure itâs like, the perfect food. But!â she stabbed a group of fries, pointing the fork at him. Some of the cheese sauce dripped down to the table. âDonât get it twisted, bud. I still would pick these over themâ she glanced at the basket of crispy fries. At the end of the day, she got to eat fries, the best food ever (except for tacos, but that was a whole different thing), so she was winning either way.Â
âOh, yeah⌠Iâve gotten lots of orders for this place. So I figured thereâs gotta be something about itâ Jade waved him off, but she tilted her head, watching him curiously. âDid you not know about it? Oh! Are you a newbie like me? Cause Iâm still looking to start a tourist clubâ.
Marcus watched as his companion stabbed at her fries. He took a few moments to enjoy the fries himself, these were really good. And he grew up only a short drive away from NorCal, so he knew good fries when he tasted them.Â
He noted her comment about not hurting a fly seemed a bit defensive. Itâs true he had probably let his muscles and face tense up a little too much because he didnât want an awkward situation. He definitely didnât want to give off the impression he was scared of her. These were just two friends hanging out and bonding over their love of potatoes.Â
âIâve just had one too many bad confessions happen out of the blue, I couldnât tell if you were being serious or not. I didnât know what I expected but I definitely canât see you hurting anyoneâ.
It was true, she was a bright ray of sunshine. Definitely not the type to go assaulting people in the middle of the night.Â
âIâve been here a few months. I know a few places, but thereâs some hidden gems in this town that I havenât heard of yet. This place loves to keep secrets.â He took a pause for a second, before adding âIâm guessing youâre a delivery driver then? How long have you been at that for?â
âOooh,â Jade tucked her hand under her chin, looking at Marcus with interest. If there was one thing she loved, it was gossip. And drama. âWhat kinda confessions?â she grinned, raising her eyebrows, delighted to hear him out. And like, the chances of actually getting any tea were low, sure, but she had learned that there was no shame in asking. (In her opinion there should be very little shame in anything, really). And sometimes Jade ended up encountering friends just like herself, ready and willing to spill.Â
âBut yeah, itâd be super hard, I think likeâŚâ Jade balled her hand into a fist, extending her arm to show the size difference against her companionâs much bigger hand. âLook it, this is barely tickling anyoneâ she sighed, feigning disappointment. In reality, she didnât need a strong left hook, or to be well trained in martial arts. It was all about marksmanship for her.Â
Jade brought another bite of soggy fries to her mouth, humming along to Marcus' explanation. She had met so many people who claimed to be new in town. Almost as if they were spawning out of nowhere. It was a pretty interesting phenomenon. âYouâre so smart, drawing conclusions and stuffâ she said, pointing one limp fry at him. âYup! I am a delivery driver, I wasnât one before I came to townâ she reached for the already melting straw of her drink, taking a sip. âBabyâs first real job. My life before was a little more⌠unconventionalâ though to her family, there was nothing more traditional than killing the undead. âWhat about you?â
Now it was Marcusâs turn to mess with his new friend. She was asking him for juicy gossip, after all.Â
âOh the usual. âIâm on the run for tax evasionâ or âI had my license taken awayâ. My favorite was probably the olâ âI killed a man in cold blood behind an Applebeeâs back in 1997.â That was probably, by far, my weirdest encounter.â He spoke with a completely stony expression on his face, before allowing his face to drop and start laughing, smacking the top of the table as he did so. âKidding about that last part of course, but the others were surprisingly true!â
He wasnât surprised to see her hand in comparison to his own. He knew he had big proportions and could throw his weight around very well. She seemed disappointed that she couldnât hurt anyone, at least not with brute strength. But, to Marcus, the innocence that comes from being harmless was something he envied.Â
He raised an eyebrow at the mention of âunconventionalâ. There were a lot of folks in this town who he would certainly place under the category of unconventional. The more he met and spoke with people, the more he learned that just about everyone here had some kind of story to tell and lead lives that were much more than met the eye.Â
âI keep watch at the lighthouse on Hanging Rock, doing maintenance work when necessary. If thereâs any kind of shipwreck, I call the incident into the Coast Guard so they can launch a rescue. Thankfully, I havenât needed to do that. I also kind of play the role of lifeguard, unofficially, as I have had to jump in and save a few drowning swimmers every now and then. Aside from that, I did a little stint in the military. Navy veteran.â Legally dead, he finished in his head. Not exactly an honorable discharge.Â
âWhat brought you out here?â
She quickly caught onto the joke, her eyes growing wide and shiny. âNot the Applebees!â Jade loved people with a sense of humor so, so much. In her opinion, it was way more attractive than any good looks available. A chiseled jaw sagged and perfect skin wrinkled with time anyway, so. She gasped dramatically, her portion of fries hanging mid air. âRight in front of the chicken penne? Thatâs just bad formâ. She shook her head at the absurdity, but began to understand why he had been so spooked before. Though, if she were to tell him real things about herself, she might have a story or two (or like, a dozen) that might surpass a strangerâs tax evasion. She didnât want to scare him, though. He seemedâŚsuper cool, going along for the fries journey and all. âFor real, though⌠I have no crime stories for youâ her lips twisted into a frown as she lied. âExcept for like, speeding. But is it against the law if you donât get caught?â She pointed another fry at him and winked.
âOooh, a lighthouse? Thatâs so coolâ Jade wanted to ask if the place was haunted, cause⌠werenât lighthouses always haunted? And surely he had like, so many spooky stories to tell. But another thought got in the way, as it was usually the case. A way more important one anyway. âLighthouses always remind me of Pokemon for some reason. You know the one?â She had come to learn that many Wickedâs rest residents were averse to all things pop culture, so she could never be sure if she was gonna have to explain what Pokemon was to him. (Not that it would be a problem to explain Pokemon. Or talk. It was just, the principle). âAnd please, tell me you get to wear a skimpy red bathing suitâ she tacked on with a playful eyebrow wiggle. âOh wow, youâve been around, huh?â Jade shifted on her seat, growing slightly uncomfortable at the mention of the military. But hey, the uniforms were hot anyway, right?
She reached for her drink when Marcus asked for for the reason she was in town. The question was always a little annoying (or a lot). She wanted to tell people. How else was she gonna get allies on her side if she couldnât explain what she was after? But a voice that suspiciously sounded like her sister kept chiming in, pointing out discretion and pragmatism andâŚit was all way too boring for Jadeâs liking and how she wanted to approach her tiny problem. (But for some reason, she still seemed to value Rubyâs opinion over her own) (Not cause she doubted herself or anything) (Cause⌠no way. Nope). âYou know how I didnât wanna scare you? Welp! All a lie. Iâm actually a hitman. Out here, looking for a VIP targetâ she sighed, speaking in half truths at least made her chest feel less tight. She took a gulp of her drink, clicking her tongue in frustration. âJust some errands I have to run, reallyâ she rolled her eyes. âFamily business, super boring, donât wanna bother you with itâ she waved him off, stealing some crispy fries from the basket. And, oh right⌠She still had questions about the lighthouse. Maybe it could help gauge his knowledge of the supernatural. And then, maybe she could come clean. âSo⌠Do you get ghosts in your lighthouse?âÂ
Marcus was very glad to see that his joke had landed, and returned an appreciative laugh when she brought up the chicken penne. Sometimes the food there alone was enough to kill a man, and he found himself grateful that his new friend found a more reputable place to eat.Â
âPokemon?â Marcus asked inquisitively. When he was a kid he joined in on the craze, watching the TV show on 4Kids whenever it would come on and bringing his gameboy to school so he could play at recess. But he grew out of it quickly and hadnât played the games since he was in grade school. But he had to admit, he had some great memories associated with that time of his life. âHavenât played those games since I wasâŚprobably 10. But isnât there a lighthouse in the TV show? I remember Ash and the gang having to go to Billâs lighthouse for something. Maybe thatâs what youâre thinking of?â
He had to chuckle a bit at the bathing suit comment. While he was never into speedos, he had no doubt that he would look damn good in one.Â
âI hate to disappoint you, but red speedos arenât exactly my swimsuit of choice. But yeah, Iâve definitely been around! I wish I could have traveled to those places under better circumstances, but I guess beggars canât be choosers.â He thought back to his tours and decided most of them were pleasant, or as pleasant as being a cog in a massive war machine could be.Â
âGhosts? Funny you mention that, I did have one at the lighthouse. But I called in an expert and mercifully laid his spirit to restâ. He decided to leave out the bit about fighting the water zombie, he didnât know just how open to the supernatural this woman was.Â
âAh, I see. A hitman, or hitwoman I should say. Whoâs your target? Some Russian spy? Maybe somebodyâs former lover? The president? Nah, Iâm not sure why the president would be here of all places. The mayor? Does this town even have a mayor?â He thought momentarily, because he actually wasnât sure if he had ever seen or heard of this townâs mayor before. âI get it, you could tell me, but youâd have to kill me. If that were the case, Iâd have to wish you the best of luck with that,â he finished with a smirkâ.Â
âPokemon!â Jade confirmed eyes wrinkling happily. Someone knew like, regular things in this town. The classics. Maybe the fact that Marcus wasnât from around played a good part in that. âI donât remember if I ever played the gamesâŚmy siblings didnât let meâOh, WAIT! Pokemon Stadium! You played that one?â She almost banged the table from her excitement. That wouldâve been such a poor choice actually, cause the baskets were a little flimsy and no fry deserved to be spilled. She shoved another handful into her mouth, wiping her hands on the napkin before continuing. âI donât remember exactly the situation with the lighthouse. It was one of thoseâŚDragonite episodes, I think. Early stuff. I was so young itâs all fuzzyâ she pointed her limp fry at him. âPoint being, lighthouses are totally coolâ.
Jade let out a big dramatic huff, rolling her eyes and twisting her lips into a sad grimace. âYouâre right, I am super disappointed. Iâm sure youâd be a hit with the ladiesâ or the guys too, that was super cool with her, obviously. âMmm, Iâm glad youâre here and not there though,â and Jade found herself feeling pretty earnest in that regard. âWould you be having the greatest fries in the world, with the best company you can think of over there? No freaking way, budâ.
She gasped at the mention of a ghost in his turf. Alright so, even if sheâd dealt with the undead for most of her life, ghosts were still like⌠a cool cousin she didnât get to visit a lot, but she totally loved. She would be so thrilled to run into more of them. Not the evil kind, though. (Maybe more like, Devon Sawa in Casper type. Or Denny Duquette, but without all the plot contrivances). Where was she? Oh. Marcus had a ghost in his lighthouse. âOoooh, that sounds brave. Iâve dabbled in some ghost hunting myself, but like totally amateurâ she liked that he was upfront about it too, it made for an easier segue into spookier topics. âThis place is probably a hotspot, huh?â
Jade found all of Marcus' playful guesses incredibly entertaining. âUgh, seeâŚAll of that sounds way more fun than the real thingâ. She wasnât the person to ask about how the town was run, she likeâŚdidnât even know where her apartment was most of the time. âJust some old dude, all influential and stuff, you knowâ She blew raspberries, reaching for her soda. âYou get it, babe. And Iâve grown fond of you, Iâm afraidâŚI would not want to kill youâ. She nodded, hanging her head in mock shame. She knew, obviously⌠by the lack of spidey senses tingling, that Marcus wasnât undead, but even the thought of having to harm one of the few people who had been nice to her since she came to town was like, super depressing.  Â
He had to admit, Marcus enjoyed the energy that his new friend was putting out. Plus, who else here would know about Pokemon? It wasnât something he had played or watched since he was young, but it still brought him a sense of nostalgia which he enjoyed being able to share with somebody else. He reached for another of handful of fries.
âPokemon Stadium 1 and 2! And Pokemon Snap, now that was my jam!â He nodded approvingly. He had to admit, this girl had great taste. A woman of culture, as it were.Â
âAs a matter of fact, I was quite a hit with the ladies. Well everyone reallyâŚnot to brag or anything.â It wasnât something he could really talk about while still coming off as modest. But to be fair, he also loved bragging about it.Â
âWhat kind of ghost hunting have you done? I only did that the one time because he wouldnât stop sliding stuff around and making noises, it was very distracting! But Iâve been interested in doing other haunts, so Iâd love to hear some of your stories! Definitely a hotspot over here though. If itâs creepy and wants to kill you, it probably lives here.â
Marcus raised an eyebrow with mock suspicion. âAhh, the influential old men make the best targets! They may seem boring, but man do they have a lot of sway over other peopleâs lives sometimes.â That was a truth he had lived through many times in his naval career. Good young men being sent off to kill other good young men so a few old men can line their pockets. One fewer of them wouldnât really be such a bad thing, assuming he deserved it.Â
âWell itâs good you donât want to kill me. Youâd be in a lot of trouble if you didâ he said, giving his right bicep a flex to emphasize his physical advantage over her. âIâm glad we get to just be friends then. Iâve had a lovely time so far, this is probably the most fun Iâve had eating fries before. And thatâs saying something!âÂ
âThereâs a second one? I donât know if I remember that one very wellâ Jade squinted, her fries hanging mid air. A second Pokemon Stadium sounded so fake. She reached for her phone inside her bag, quickly typing away the question for the search engine to answer. In the meantime she absently sipped on her drink. âI remember playing one with cards too⌠And by that I mean, Iâd steal Jasperâs game boy at night and try not to leave any trace. OH! Pokemon Stadium 2 does exist,â she grinned, without looking up from the screen. Maybe sheâd text her siblings about it, confirm they infact didnât not get that one growing up. Her curiosity satisfied, locked her phone and put it aside. She had a date to be engaged in, after all.
âNope. Nuh uh, you should brag. I support it, I demand it in fact. You gotta be confident in what you have. AND! In what you donât have, even. Thatâs the trickâ Jade winked at him, deciding she liked him enough to share that little secret with him. (So what if her confidence had some âfake it till you make itâ aspects? It got the job done in the end didnât it?) âI only hang out with cool people, so⌠gotta keep up, babeâ she quipped, with a playful shrug. (And sure, okayâŚshe found almost everyone cool, in their own right) (It didnât make her statement a lie).
âOkay so, me personally? Zero. But like, stay with me⌠I didnât lie. Sometimes⌠my siblings would let me tag along in their⌠little adventures. So I totally got to see them banish a few. Give me a bag of salt, I'm ready to jump into action, I say!â She nodded so confidently, the table shook with the full body movement. Jadeâs gaze narrowed for a moment, mulling over Marcus wordâs. If itâs creepy and wants to kill you, it probably leaves here. Funny. If it was such a charged town, then it could shed some light as to why the elder vampire she accidentally released decided to visit. Maybe it wasnât after someone. But something.Â
Jade quirked an eyebrow, playing with her food as Marcus made a pretty astute comparison between old, rich men and elder vampires' ability to compel others. Maybe he knew about other stuff besides ghosts. Or maybe, (you know, the most obvious answer) he might have been referring to his time serving. But she was totally curious either way. âYup, yup⌠Exactly. You get it, babeâ. Her laugh echoed around the whole restaurant while he flexed his giant bicep at her, paying no attention to the looks she got. (They werenât the kind of looks she was interested in, anyway). She covered her mouth, though her eyes were filled with joy. âAlright babe, this is a family establishment, no need to put on a show. Youâre gonna get everyone hot and botheredâ. She bit her tongue, reaching for her almost empty glass of Sprite. âA toast then?â she wiggled her eyebrow, demanding him to mimic her action. âTo me sparing your life, obvi. And⌠hm. To trying every single fry there is to try in this awful little town! How about that? Anything else you wanna add? The beautiful companyâŚperhaps?â
Marcus had to admit he was a little offended his new friend didnât believe him to the point that she had to fact check him. While he may not have played since he was a kid, Marcus knew his Pokemon games. At least up until about Gen 3, then he stopped paying attention. âOf course thereâs a Stadium 2. I used to play that game for hours with my cousin growing upâ.
âWell itâs as they sayâ he began with a smirk, âif youâve got it, flaunt it. As long as you donât break any obscenity laws, of courseâ. Marcus was proud of the figure heâd been able to maintain, even with the loss of his pelt sapping his strength away for a few months.Â
âBanish? Are they exorcists or something? Usually the paranormal investigators I see hear a floorboard creak and start screaming and running out of the house. But the fact that you actually know a thing or two is impressive!â Even he didnât know exorcism or banishment was even possible, let alone witnessing a spirit be banished firsthand. This girl got more and more interesting as the night went on.Â
He didnât really put much thought into his little gun show, just wanted to make a fun little point about their physical differences. However, he now caught the stares of a few of the restaurant patrons and realized he was coming off as one of those douchey gym rats who like showing off wherever they go. He sheepishly rolled his sleeve back down and turned his attention back to Jade. âMaybe Iâm flaunting a bit too much, eh?âÂ
âAgreed. To a beautiful friendship, and to many more fry adventures in our future. And of course, your infinite mercy in not killing me, thatâs always a great reason to celebrateâ. He took his diet coke and clanked his glass against hers. âWe should definitely do something like this again soonâ.

I hate when my dreams are better TV shows than anything I actually have available to me to watch
I just dreamt that, like, basically, I was watching the Sex Lives of College Girls (basic setting & approximate cast), but Essex was becoming an increasingly, bizarrely surreal psychological horror setting
Like the school was definitely in some way alive, and had an agenda of teaching the people who were there about its bizarre past. And the people who were there knowing about that past was letting the school manifest things about it?
Like, there were increasingly weird metal detectors around the school, and you could mostly avoid them because whatever was causing them to manifest didn't really get how humans move around spaces so they weren't positioned to force people to pass through them. They had labels on them, I don't remember all of them
But one of them, on the way into the chemistry lab, there was a pair of them. The one on the right was labeled "Riddle," and the one on the left was labeled "Wizard," or maybe "Merlin." I think the gist was that the one on the left was a test of character or of destiny or something. People were universally (or at least mostly) picking "Riddle." & the riddles were like lateral thinking problems where you had to figure out the answer to questions about the school's history.
the protagonist intuitively guessed that the one she got was a trick question, because she had a flashback to a memory of a boy from like the 70s pretending to play football with himself.
The chemistry teacher has been dreaming about a tank of some sort, and the protagonist found a metal spiral staircase in a garden that lead up to the top of the now tower-like building
The history professor was obsessed with having a biography written about himself, he had weird charactures of all the historical figures he studied with shadowed out noses, and he had one ready for himself. He seemed a lot like he was about to go insane, in a very Control villain kind of way. The whole thing had a very Control energy
There was, like, a probably zombie physics teacher
And a vampire student, who was sleeping in the help window, & the student who worked there said that she didn't know who he was but that something in the school had said that she needed to ruin his life, telling her to "play along." The protagonist knew that they had been lovers before the school started fucking with everyone's memory so she tried to save the vampire student
The dream was turning into a musical when I woke up, about the value of embracing the possibility of love even when it means risking hurting the people you might come to care about
Anyway I want to go back to sleep because that dream was cooler than anything in my real life or my available media landscape but that's not how dreaming works and I'm kinda mad about it
Somebody gimme a TV studio and an infinite budget

I had a dream about some Warrior cats trying to stop an evil ruler. I knew there were four, but I could only remember two of them, Rumblesky and Fallowsight.
Rumblesky was a male with dark blue fur and a white underbelly with feathered wings. Cats are supposed to have powers in this universe, but Rumblesky did not for some reason. He was also infertile, but he dearly wanted kits. I noted that if he ever got a mate, he should have someone be a surrogate. Heâs a friendly and good-natured cat, but heâs bitter about not being as helpful as he could be.
Fallowsight was a golden she-cat who I considered making the medicine cat due to her gentle and quiet demeanour, but decided that that was a stereotype and we needed more soft-spoken shy warriors. She did not have wings, but she was the heart of the group, the one who always had an idea on what to do next.
I canât remember the other two, but one of had wings and the other was black with reddish brindle, and very high-energy.
I woke up and started writing all this down on my phone. I was in a grocery store, but everyone except me was some sort of monster. This was normal.
I wandered around for a while, continuing to make notes on my dream while taking in all the drama. One person stole something and pushed away a woman who tried to stop her, but then they revealed that they were actually twenty clones standing in one place, with many different skin tones. They jogged in a circle around the shoplifter while staff arrived.
Later, I talked to the clones (all back into one person again, but with a different skin tone since a different one had found their way to the surface.) They were actually really nice, and gave me a gift. They also explained that they were blind when they were all together, for the same reason why you canât see if you stand directly inside someone else in Minecraft.
I met with Marcel outside, and we agreed that we were ready to leave. We waited on a white picnic bench while the clones watched over us. Eventually, dad arrived, and we went home.
Along the way, we stopped at a random house that was being investigated by a detective. He was absolutely certain that a vampire had broken in, but I knew that wasnât the case. There werenât even any footprints.
As we started to leave, I noticed a large crow sitting in a nearby tree. The detective said that that was our vampire, and I used the string on my bathrobe to catch it and pull it down. It wasnât happy.
We finally arrived at home. In the fireplace, there was a cop that needed help catching some criminals who were all in the form of lizards. The fireplace door was more like a window to him, and he would look into a camera to address me (it gave the fish-eye effect.) When he opened the fireplace door, he would turn to his left and open up a full-size door from his perspective.
I agreed to help him, and employed my lizard-catching skills. They would appear in the tv room, and I would catch them similarly to how I used to catch crickets. Then I would open the door and hand them off to the cop to be sent to jail.
Eventually, a lizard that resembled the colours of a leopard gecko appeared. I caught it easily, but the cop was gone. I looked down at the lizard, and I realized that it was actually the cop who was transmutated by the lizard criminal. And there he was, at the top of the stairs.
I ran upstairs and dropped the cop, frantically telling my dad not to hurt him as he was actually a cop who was transmuted by a criminal wizard lizard. His response was just ââŚokay?â
I chased after the wizard lizard, who ran into my room and onto my bed. He almost escaped, but I was able to nab him before he disappeared in my messy blankets. He told me that he was hoping to mess up my bedroom so that I would be uncomfortable sleeping there.
I brought him back downstairs, and also picked up the cop. I put the cop back into his place first, and he turned back into a human. I handed off the wizard lizard, and he thanked me and took him away.

Heya,
I really like all the ideas you have for the Quarry gang in different AUs, like the superpowers or lingering werewolf changes.
But if each one of them was a different mystical/paranormal creature in hiding, who do you think would be what? Like maybe Max and Laura would still be werewolves, but we could have a vampire, harpy, kelpie, mermaid etc.
Can either be classic monsters or mythological creatures in hiding.
Thanks for the awesome content!
HERE WE GO
I apologize for how long it took me to answer this I rly needed to think about it.
I wanted to stick with a kinda spooky theme for all of them while also picking things that I felt matched with their vibes but I'm so happy with these.
Almost all of these creatures murder people for fun but we're going Teen Wolf style where these funky kids are doing their best not to murder anyone because they don't want to, also they're in hiding.
Also turned this into a full-on story Au. Apparently I can't help myself.
đ The Quarry counselors as mythical creatures in hiding đ
Max&Laura
I love the idea of them still being werewolves. And I love the headcanon of them being a cryptid hunting duo even more and I think that's where they all meet in this universe. I say that like I have the ability to write a fanfic. I do not. But I'll obsess anyway.
They're both werewolves, though they look more furry than the game designs. Still big and freaky but not as gobliny
They get paid to investigate "mysterious deaths" typically caused by creatures posing as humans. They probably get paid by Travis who's just a human cop who knows that monsters exist and hide among humans and needs a way to get rid of them without seeming like a crazy person. They hunt down said creatures and that's how they meet the others.
They're all innocent but Laura and Max need to scope out their vibes before they can find the things actually repsonsible.
Emma
Emma was the first one I thought of because there's so many hot monster ladies who kill men and she just has that vibe to her, but also I was looking for a real specific energy for the love of my life.
Lamia in Greek mythology are half snake half women who eat kids. They also seduce men and convince them to give them their kids and then kill the men too. They're known to pose as performers to get attention and scope out vulnerable targets and lure them in with their ethereal beauty.
They're basically spicy land mermaids and that's on being hot. Though they're technically a type of demon. Like I said, hot.
Some stories pitch them to have mind control abilities as an alternative to seducing their victims. They can also straight up induce fear to make people leave them alone or just outright scare them to death.
They can shapeshift to change their size to be like an eight feet tall monster snake lady and also shed the snake skin to just be hot human ladies. They can see into the future and they practice witchcraft đđ¤đ
Emma is just the local beautiful womanâ˘. She definitely still has a YouTube channel or a Tiktok account and sometimes does her scarily accurate tarot card readings. She just lives her life doin whatever because it's pretty easy for her the hide. She travels a lot because she wants to see what the world has to offer but this makes her suspicious to the lil hunting duo who assume she's roaming around leaving bodies behind.
Laura and Max find her minding her own business. Maybe she did kill someone but if Emma was killing anyone, they definitely deserved it.
Abi
For Abi I almost went with something cutesy but I was also leaning towards something ghosty related because of how much contact she has with Eliza in the game. I just wanted her to be powerful but completely unaware of it, like it was something dormant she had to unlock and I actually had two that are basically the same thing but with very different aesthetics.
Banshees are fairy/spirit ladies who appear when you are close to death. If you can hear her wails it means someone you know is going to die or you're going to be in danger sometime soon.
Dullahan's are also fairies and are also omens of death but they're headless (lol) and ride around on horses holding their magic heads that can see massively long distances. Both are rad but I'm sticking with Banshee for now which is also a Teen Wolf thing.
She can disorient you with her scream and deafen you if you're close enough. Tinnitus all around. They also have visions of the future. (blygbank fortune teller duo)
Eventually she works out how to see and talk to ghosts but for most of her life she's just plagued with confusing dreams and gets weird feelings in certain places that later turn out to be haunted, and around certain people who end up dying shortly after.
Abi doesn't know about her powers she just thinks she has the worst luck. Every now and then, she'll go somewhere and she'll see someone get hit by a car or spontaneously have a heart attack. She aimlessly goes for walks and always ends up near where an ambulance is parked in front of someone's house or on the side of the road. Because she's always around the scenes of crimes, Laura and Max think she's their target but they eventually see that's not the case.
She's subconsciously using her powers and I think Laura and Max are the ones who tell her that she's a banshee when they realise that she's clueless and definitely not a serial murderer.
Ryan
For Ryan I was thinking along the lines of mythical creatures who kept to themselves/had some kind of camoflauge or shapeshifting abilities but most of them were tiny chaotic creatures or things that seduced humans to kill them and none of that matches up with Ryan
Then I read about djinn/jinn/genies and they seemed more like what I was looking for.đ
They're typically reclusive, only interacting with humans they deem to be wise/intelligent enough to offer their power to. They're antisocial and picky about their company just like our good good boy.
But more specifically I was thinking Ryan would be a half-djinn. Since Djinn are invisible, wispy beings with god-like powers associated with demons since they can possess humans. But their offspring pass as slender, pretty humans. Which is kinda boring but I think his eyes glow and he gets all these coloured tattoos all over him if he's in his djinn form đđ¤
Their powers are limited to shapeshifting and psychic-like abilities where they can make humans hallucinate, experience false realities and basically just mess with their minds in general. They can also see into or interfere with humans dreams like Djinn. But Djinn cause sleep paralysis and try to possess sleeping humans.
But since Ryan canonically has one (or two depending on your hc) absent parents. It matches up with a human getting down with a potentially evil being and having a funky magic baby.
Ryan mainly uses his powers to avoid people. He's not out looking to make people go crazy by breaking their brains, he just doesn't want to be cornered into a conversation with an acquaintance when he's trying to do his grocery shopping. So he'll do some minor mind-fucking to make them forget they saw him.
It also makes it SUPER hard for Laura and Max to find him. The first time one of them try to approach him, he instinctively makes them forget him because he's too shy to talk to strangers and then they have to start from square one again. Then they come back and accuse him of messing with their brain and he gets nervous, so he messes with their brains again.
Djinn also have the silver weakness and can be killed or trapped inside anything made of silver. So there's something in common with Laura and Max. Also it's super funny to think about them trying to get proof that he's a djinn by using silver while trying to not touch it themselves.
Dylan
I really wanted something intelligence or music related for my sweet boy and as I was searching GUESS WHAT I LEARNT
Sirens! Were originally! depicted as half-BIRD MEN! Who hung out on big rocks in the middle of the ocean and sang or played music. The stories varied between them doing it to cause mischief and get sailors killed or lost at sea. Or singing to warn sailors travelling through fog that were was stuff to hit their boat on or that a storm was coming. Then later they added lady sirens (or stories with lady sirens got more popular) and stories of them exclusively trying to lure sailors in with their voices to kill them started up. Then they changed it to fish people, then some boring asshole decided that it was just female sirens who lured men to their death. Probably some lame ass who didn't want to be lured to his death by a hot man. But I'm not a coward so I'm going with the OG lore.
The idea of Dylan with wings does in fact, make me go feral. Maybe he just has wings or maybe he gets feathers on his arms and bird feet when he's not in human form but either way he's ethereal. He has super soft hair. Beautiful bird boy.
He uses his charm powers mostly for his own gain, occasionally to help his friends out. If he gets lonely he'll go somewhere and hum or whistle a song and people will immediately come over to him and talk to him 𼰠He makes music and anyone who hears it feels compelled to reach out to him in some way. He has used it to get money many times and he'll do it again. But he doesn't make people fall in love with him because that's where his morals kick in. He doesn't use his powers to kill people, he just likes the attention. Because you can't convince me that if Dylan had the ability to make people pay attention to him, he wouldn't abuse the hell out of it.
I imagine that creatures with mind control-esq abilities are immune to his charm and he gets real mopey about it. Not because he's run into a potentially dangerous creature but because he got rejected and he's not used to that.
I think he singles out Max and lures him in because he's smart and figured out Max and Laura were tracking him. Cue Laura going to save her bf and her and Dylan recreating that picture of the cat with the shit-eating grin surrounded by knives (Laura's holding the knives)
I have another similar one for Dylan but Sirens are more noteable so I went with that.
Kaitlyn
I wasn't sure about Kaitlyn. My only prerequisite was that it had to be dope. I wanted to find some way to make her a dragon then I remembered wyverns were a thing and I saw stars.
The difference between dragons and wyverns is that wyverns are smaller and bipedal. They still walk on their hands and feet but they have hand claws instead of four legs. Some of them breathe fire, others have some kind of poison smog breath or spit acid. I can see Kaitlyn's bite and claws being poison when she's not in human form.
She has three forms. A human form, a half wyvern lady form and a full on wyvern. They're smart and like collecting/hoarding things. They're independent but inquisitive and like learning about human things which works with their interest in mechanics and engineering đđ¤
She minds her own business and rarely goes into creature mode. She's a human 99.9% of the time because she's a responsible, tax paying member of society who doesn't feel the need to randomly use her powers for any reason. But when she does use it you better make sure you're on her side because she'll whoop your ass.
I'm also obsessed with Kaitlyn and Dylan being winged buddies. I think they met from Dylan luring her in when he was bored and once it wore off, she decided he was funny and harmless enough to not immediately kill. Now they're besties, They have to be besties in every au, I don't make the rules.
Laura and Max are real careful with tracking her because they know how tough she is and I'm debating whether they even tried to do so or not. Kaitlyn could definitely immediately tell they're werewolves and vice versa. Their animal instincts clocked each other right away. I think Kaitlyn went to them to find out why they were following her and then probably helped them find the real culprits after she scares the shit out of them.
Nick
I wanted SOMEONE to be a water dwelling creature and I had good arguments for most of them. I almost made Ryan the merman but I eventually settled on Nick.
My final decision was ultimately based on Nick being an adorable Australian shark merman since Australians are all about the beautiful beaches and swimming and the coral reef and all that good stuff.
Specifically he's a tiger shark, they have stripes down their sides, they're a little stupid and they're entirely food motivated. Like they'll swim through disaster weather just on the off-chance they'll find dead things to eat when every other species of shark swims away from the area for safety.
There's a bunch of different stories about merfolk and what they're capable of in terms of shapeshifting but I'm going with the style where they can either have the half fish body or human legs whenever they want. They can live on land for as long as they want without it affecting them physically but they do feel an urge to be near water. Which is why I think Nick is a lifeguard in his spare time. He just has the vibe of those handsome, charming lifeguards.
There are stories about how merfolk would innocently try to take humans they liked to their underwater kingdoms, which resulted in the humans drowning or their lungs crushing from the sudden change in pressure because they swim down so fast. Which is so bimbo/himbo of them tbh but it makes sense they wouldn't know humans can't breathe in both air and water like they can. But that's why Nick's a lifeguard because he's well aware these humans are fragile and they need a lot of taking care of.
They can read minds which is how they talk underwater but Nick knows not to pry. He's polite. Living on land gave him human etiquette.
He has a set of human teeth and a set of pointy shark teeth that he can retract and he's real strong. Similar to the werewolves, he can smell blood and it can potentially send him into a bit of a frenzy if he's hungry or you just catch him on a bad day mentally. Luckily he's a generally happy boy and doesn't have a lot of bad days but when he has a bad day, it's a real bad day. (Future cryptid friend group HC is that Dylan or Emma have to calm him down by charming him before he goes rabid and tried to eat someone. Same with the werewolves.)
Laura and Max absolutely hate this job because it's entirely water based. The dude is constantly in and out of water and covered in water. In the end, Max literally just walks up to Nick and chats to him about the weird deaths in the area and Nick is SO friendly and helpful and after half a conversation with him they know he's not the culprit but they DO wanna hang out with him.
Jacob
I was at a loss for Jacob, I truly just had no idea he could be. We don't have any info about his family dynamics or his interests that could spawn some train of inspiration in my head like the others do and this was sixty percent of the reason it took me so long to write this.
He has a similar energy to Abi where he just doesn't know what's going on most of the time so I played off that. Eventually I decided on him being a mythical creature by proxy. As in, he's possessed by something that turns him into a monster.
Y'all heard of a show called Teen Wolf?/sarcasm
There's a being called the Kanima which is a South American myth that involves a shapeshifter in the form of a were-jaguar. It's known as a demonic spirit that brings misfortune to everyone it's near. If you're out in the woods and you keep experiencing bad luck; tripping, stuff from trees falling on you, getting attacked by animals, it's a sign that the Kanima is after you.
It has the power to posses humans or animals and it's stare can drive the recipient insane. They have a paralyzing poisonIt can't fully suppress the consciousness of the one they're possessing unless they're asleep or knocked out. The spirit is only released if the one they're possessing dies and I think this is the final chapter in this little cryptid hunting story.
Jacob went out for a walk one day, was even more unlucky than usual and didn't come home. Kaitlyn and him are definitely still friends in this universe and she started getting concerned/suspicious when Jacob popped up the next morning acting like he didn't know what happened the previous night.
Her instincts are telling her something's wrong, she calls Laura and Max and they also can't do anything. When the Kanima reveals itself they can't get close to it because if the stare and the poison. Not only that, everything goes wrong, their car breaks down, they hurt themselves in ridiculous ways, all because of the Kanima. Kaitlyn can fight him but her poison doesn't work on him and the stare would make her go crazy.
They end up calling all their new friends to see if any of them can help. Abi's new to this, she might be able to help but she's not ready for combat. Nicks strong enough to fight it and would love to help but one look from the Kanima would make Nick go into a frenzy. Dylan could pacify and lure him in but he absolutely does not want to get close to it because he'd get messed up by the poison and the stare.
At the end of the day Emma and Ryan are also demon-esq and they're the only ones immune to the poison and insanity stare. Emma pacifys him while Ryan roots around in his mind to essentially disable the Kanima so it can't take control of Jacob anymore.
Now Jacob just has the strength and speed of the Kanima. In Teen Wolf it's like a gross lizard thing but when I look up were-jaguars, they're just these big ol' hell-demon-cats so that's what he can turn into because that's sick. Parkour time for this lad.

Time and Time Again
A goddess takes an interest in humans so she visits Earth only to find an immortal living between them
Max Phillips x F!Reader
Word count: 2.4k
Warnings: Reader is a goddess, first time writing Max so he might be a little ooc, vampires, all my vampire research for this comes from a quick wikipedia search so it might be inaccurate, main character death
A/N: Originally this was a Multiple Pedro Boys series (thanks to @littlemisspascalâ for helping me plan it!), and now itâs a Max one-shot with the possibility to be turned into a series at some point in the future
MASTERLIST
Humans are interesting creatures. In a universe filled with millions of different life forms, they are one of the only species to evolve to think that they are the center of everything as if the story of the universe starts and ends with them. How could someone blame you for wanting to study this fascinating group of beings up close?Â
Adopting a human form you descend into Earth, the planet they called home. You havenât been in this part of the galaxy for a long time. During your last visit, the only life forms could be found in the deepest part of the oceans, so you marvel at how everything has changed in only a couple of million years. The most curious aspect of people is that depending on their geographical locations, they would have different traditions and beliefs, even going as far as to start wars because of them.Â
Everything you saw made you arrive at the conclusion that humans are indeed interesting yet only in the same way an ant or a tree is interesting. There are small differences between them that you can notice if you stare for long enough, but really, they are all the same.
.
The last place you visit is in Europe, itâs a small region called Transylvania, which picked your interest due to legends of immortal beings living there. But during the couple of days youâve been staying nothing had happened, so you are about to end your adventure and head to the planet you call home when something makes you change your mind.
Brown eyes lock with yours and for the first time since you are in a human body, you feel a chill going down your spine. Whoever he is, heâs not like others. The energy surrounding him is unlike any of the mortals you have found, it seems as if the atoms are vibrating. You blink and he is gone. With this sudden appearance, your curiosity is renewed, and you decide to stay in this world a little longer, excited to figure out what exactly is going on.Â
At night, when the streets are devoid of people you get a chance to admire the infrastructure. To your right, on top of a mountain sits a splendid castle, its outline sharp against the night sky. To your left, small houses with doors locked and curtains drawn tightly as if thereâs something or someone they wish to keep out. Â
You sense him before you see him. The air changes and when you turn around you can see his wild eyes and teeth, which appear sharper than a regular man's. Heâs the immortal everyone is afraid of, the one that locals call a vampire. Heâs the reason crosses are hung on top of beds and children are warned from an early age not to go wandering alone at night.Â
He closes the space between you, jumping an impressive amount, ready to attack. With a flick of your wrist, you freeze him mid-jump and for a second his expression changes from ferocity to surprise, however, he switches back almost instantly and snarls at you. He stays in the air for a couple of seconds more before you take pity on him and set him down on the ground. His muscles are tense under the spell, his breathing heavy and if anything thereâs more ferocity in his eyes than a minute ago, so you donât release him just yet. With him immobilized you take a better look at his features, his hair is short on the back and sides and spiky at the front, and on top of his brown eyes sit very expressive eyebrows that are placed in a permanent frown.
âIf what youâre looking for is blood, I can assure you it cannot be found in my neck. But if at this moment that is a necessity to you, I might be able to procure you some.â With a snap of your fingers, a rabbit appears in your arms. âWill the blood of this little one be enough for you?â
He stops fighting against your spell prompting you to let him go, after all, he will not be an opponent if a fight were to ensue. He stares at you for a couple of seconds, his head tilted and a smile appearing on his lips, which gives you a better look at those sharp teeth. âYouâre not human,â he finally says.
âNeither are you.â
âI used to be.â You wait for him to provide more information, but he deflects the conversation to you, his curiosity now freely showing itself in his expression. âWhat are you?â
âMaybe youâre not human anymore,â you take a step closer to him, âstill your mind wonât be able to wrap itself around who I am.â
He licks his lips and whispers, âIâve been known to be pretty smart.âÂ
You move towards him until there are only a couple of inches between your faces and whisper back: âIâm a goddess.â You expect fear or confusion to appear on his face, but the only perceptible change is the spark that appears in his eyes.
âAnd what is a goddess doing here on Earth?â
âLearning about humans.â
âAnd what have you learned so far?â The intensity of his stare makes another chill travel down your spine and you could swear he senses it as his smirk grows wider.
âThat amongst all species in the universe theyâre some of the most interesting ones.â
âThey are weak.â His breath feels warm against your skin. âTheyâre only good as servants.âÂ
This is a take you havenât considered. Of course, you have witnessed that some of them held positions that gave them power over others but you have also seen how they had angered the people they were supposed to lead, costing them their jobs or in some cases, their lives. âHow so?â
âIf given free will theyâll make bad decisions.â He takes your hand in his. âThey need someone like us to rule over them. Come to my castle, Iâll show you.â
âYou seem very hopeful at the fact that I will be impressed.â
âBelieve me, you will.â His gaze challenges you, and even though he is the one to look away first, it doesnât feel like a win. âIâm Max by the way.â
.
The vampireâs castle isnât as impressive as it would have been had you not seen builds like the pyramids in Egypt or a mausoleum in India. It certainly has its charm, albeit a sinister one. The place is made completely out of stone, the people bowing and avoiding your eyes as you pass. You have not experienced this in a long time. At some point in the past, you had been worshipped by an entire galaxy that had been destroyed in a tragic accident. Now, there is no one who remembers your name, or prays at you for help or forgiveness.Â
He guides you to a large room containing a table full of food in its center. Your mouth waters at the sight and smell of everything, it seems as though the longer you stay on Earth the more human reactions your body experiences. âPlease try it.â Max points to the food with what you have categorized as his usual smirk. Up until this moment you have not consumed human food as your body has no need for it, but seeing all these delicacies in front of you, the temptation to do it grows stronger.Â
âI do not need to eat this.â
âNeither do I.â He says picking up a fork with a piece of pie on it, which he then moves in front of your face. âBut what is the point of life if it isnât enjoying the things one does not need?â You consider his words carefully, that was an angle to existence you had not thought of. Perhaps he has some wisdom in him after all.
The pieâs flavors fill your mouth, making so many sensations explode inside you that you have to close your eyes in order to focus on them. When you open them up after you swallow, Max has the biggest smile on his face and stares at you for what feels like an eternity, making the hair on your arms stand up, before taking a bite himself.Â
You spend the rest of the night tasting a little bit of everything, and between bites, he tells you his story. You learn he was born a human to a poor mother and abusive father, leaving home as soon as he was able and working for a fisherman. One day in which he had not caught a single fish, he had to stay after sunset in the ocean, and a monster appeared and sank its teeth into his neck. He managed to escape by throwing himself into the water, but the poison was already in his blood, turning him into a vampire. He mentions but doesnât linger on the fact that living so much can get lonely, and you find yourself agreeing with him.Â
Once the food is finished he takes you to the roof where thereâs a clear view of the night sky full of shining stars. You have been to some of those stars, and proceed to point them to Max.Â
âWhich one is your favorite?â He asks looking back at you once youâre done.
âIâŚIâve never stayed in one long enough to consider it a favorite.â
âDo you have a favorite planet then?â You shake your head, when you have lived so much, choosing a favorite gets complicated. You could tell him about your home, about the planet youâre tethered to, where your powers are the strongest and where you need to go in order to recharge them. But a place that helps you survive is not necessarily a place that makes you smile.Â
âPerhaps that can change. You like this.â He motions to the land in front of you. There is something different in his voice that hadnât been there before, and it takes you a while to pinpoint what it is. Itâs hope.
âI do.â His smile grows wider at your reply.
âThen stay here. Rule this place at my side. Be my queen.â
No one had asked you something like this before. If someone seeks your help with a problem, they are quick to dismiss you or forget about you when their problem is gone. But Max seeks your presence, he doesnât want anything from you, he wants you. So you stay.
.
One night while taking a stroll through the castleâs gardens you turn to Max with a question that has been in your mind for a while now. âDo you miss being human?â He keeps walking yet by his expression you can tell heâs thinking of the best way to answer.
âDo I miss being fragile? Or not having control over my own life? No, I donât.â He stops and turns to you. âItâs true that not always do I enjoy being this mix between human and monster, being feared by those around me. But if I wasnât like this I would have never met you.â He steps closer and locks his lips with yours, as always thereâs a metallic taste to him. You enjoy the way he bites your lip and pulls on it, with enough pressure itâll leave a mark but it wonât hurt.
As time passes you agree with Max on his vision of humans. They are simple beings, with simple goals, and easy to control. Ruling over them brings you closer, he accepts and loves you exactly as you are, and you do the same for him.Â
When you are an immortal you get used to loneliness at some point, and he changes that, he shows you how good it feels to be loved and to love in return. You tell him the secrets of the universe and he teaches you the advantages of having a human body, about pleasure and pain, and about how sometimes they can intertwine. True to his words he makes you his queen and worships you as one.
.
As good things tend to do, your perfect life ends. And it ends because of humans. One night, people of all ages, force their way into the castle with rakes and torches, shouting that they are going to kill the monster. With your powers having grown weak due to the amount of time you have spent away from your home, you arenât powerful enough to stop all of them.
Youâre trying to make your way to Max when you hear the scream.Â
As you make your way through the crowd people try to stop you, they tell you that youâre free, that he wonât be able to keep you trapped anymore. Ignoring them you make your way to Maxâs chamber where he is lying on the floor with a stake in his heart.Â
You kneel and take his body in your arms, feeling the life draining from him. You wish you could do something to bring him back but even if your powers were full, stopping death, especially that of an immortal is not something you can do.Â
While your tears fall on his chest, an idea sparks in your head. You may not be able to save his body but perhaps there is something you can do for him. You can keep his soul here. By giving him a part of yours, youâd be granting immortality to his soul. This is not something you have tried before, but in theory, it could be done.Â
There are two reasons as to why you have never done this. The first is that you have never found someone you deemed important enough to share your soul with. And the second is that a normal human soul could not withstand the process. But he had been an immortal, as much as a non-deity could be one, so maybe, just maybe this could work.
You put your hand on his chest and close your eyes. Energy leaves your body through your hands and thereâs a strange feeling in your chest. You hope this means this has worked as thereâs no other change. As he takes his last breath, you lean down and whisper âIâll find you love, I promise.â
