okay i get it but i also think its important to acknowledge that there is a difference between knowing from an audience standpoint that a character should be queer VS it firmly being acknowledged verbally within the narrative as a solid aspect of that character's identity irrefutably

#this reminds me of keeley jones from ted lasso like i get it shes “always” been bisexual but its so hard to tell if the writer is being #sincere in their representation or not #people joke about queerness bc haha lol look a gay person or look hot super model slept with woman #in keeley's case it was literally a joke intended to shock rebecca like that is not confirmation that is a joke the writer is making #it needs to be said or expressed in a way that is outside of a throwaway haha gotcha joke #the doctor has been kissed by men and kissed men in moments of celebration and theyve been laughed off #hes made comments that the audience is SUPPOSED TO think are jokes. queer audiences just see past that and straight audiences dont #its important that it was not only said but talked about even if it was in passing. it wasnt a punchline or the set up for a joke #donna comments that a man is hot > the doctor agrees enthusiastically that the man was really hot >#they both acknowledge the doctors attraction to men and his openness about it > donna says it was always obvious #its not about creating his queerness its always been there its about finally being in a place to say it out loud #from a narrative standpoint you could say now he's the kind of person who talks openly about his attraction and feelings #from an audience standpoint i hope we can acknowledge that its bc they couldnt outright say he was bisexual/lesbian/queer/trans/nombinary #now they can #thats the difference i think #doctor who

i get a bit confused when people say so//namy was canon in sonic boom.... like idk much about the games side of sonic boom so maybe theres something im missing here but ive seen the entire tv show (which is the only aspect of boom that most people care about if we're being honest here) at least 4 or 5 times over and they most certainly were not dating what are you talking about

realizing that it sounds kind of mean for me to be referring to this fic as the “cringe loser” fic if you don’t have the extensive lexicon i’ve created in my head for the lengthy opinion essay i haven’t written about how most people don’t actually want “good” autist-rep, they want “cool” rep even at the expense of ‘accuracy’. just believe me i say “cringe loser” with the highest degree of absolute affection

#N posts stuff #brief overview is: abed is generally one of the only characters i see lauded as Good rep #but there’s no way to quantify his representation in a way that successfully singles him out in the convo #ie; people claim it’s Good bc Harmon is autistic — doesn’t hold up bc post-music sia now touts a diagnosis #so either you think she’s lying for obscure internet clout OR having an autisticwriter in the room isn’t The Thing that makes it work #‘if they would hire autisticactors tho’ but that doesn’t hold up either bc abed is portrayed by an allistic man #and when that MH cartoon with the autistic character dropped people immediately started mocking the voice acting #even tho she was played by an autistic actress. so that also doesn’t hold up #so what differentiates abed?#shaun murphy is ‘cringe’ bc he talks weird and has meltdowns #and wendy please stand by is ‘bad’ bc she lives in a group home #and attorney woo is ‘embarrassing’ bc she has motor skill issues and makes odd facial expressions #and the MH girl is ‘childish’ bc she talks weird #etcetera and so on. so why is abed different? i don’t know if his portrayal Is significantly different #i think he just ‘looks cooler’ than these other characters so people like him more #the deficits he has are usually throwaway jokes instead of things that are given narrative weight. so you can ignore them if you want #and if you wanted to argue that the Narrative of the show is what makes a difference then i would also disagree with you #bc abed is pretty extensively mocked in the show. a lot of his autistic traits are just the punchlines of jokes about his characters #(i mean every character on the show is so at least abed isn’t single out but i wouldn’t exactly call it Respectful)#and if you argue that it’s good bc it’s ‘unintentional’ bc harmon didn’t know he was autistic at the time #then i’d point out that abed is made the punchline of an autism joke within his first five minutes on screen #so they knew Enough about what they were doing to make him the joke. so i don’t believe that holds water either #anyway the argument doesn’t cumulate in the opinion that any of these shows are definitively Good Rep #bc the notion of Good Rep is so shakily defined that it’s hard to quantify and also a lot of the examples i chose aren’t like #‘good’ narratively even if i like the characters so im not arguing that they’re better or worse than community or whatever #it really is just an argument about people wanting things to look ‘cool’ more than they want it ‘real’#and that’s why you see autistic influencers literally bullied off social media by other autistic people for acting ‘cringe’ by.. stimming #and that’s it. bc they didn’t look Cool Enough when they did it #so i think we desperately need to embrace Cringe Losers bc i think the Cool factor is a bad one to measure by

Actually it should be legal to rush the stage and start beating a guys ass when he starts being blatantly bigoted or predatory disguised as "jokes".

Standing on stage in front of a microphone is not a go-ahead to say whatever the hell you want without consequences because you're "joking", and so many comedians need to be reminded of that.

i'm gonna be honest here.. but the way movies from like before 2010 will use gay characters as a punchline is honestly more entertaining to watch than what's going on with actual gay characters nowadays.

I have a silly hc that since Teruhashi is the perfect pretty girl, she would most likely be good at like ANYTHING to the fact that Saiki is even impressed with Teruhashi and even tried asking her since Saiki thinks that no other person could do that and Teruhashi is like “It’s easy!” And Saiki’s like [???]

and when you say shes good at anything I will take it one step further and say shes good at EVERYTHING.

one day saiki tries to see just how much she actually knows and quizzes her. here are the conclusions he came to

- she knows all american history in concerning detail

- she knows all chinese history in concerning detail

- she knows all world history in great detail, less so than any specific location but she still knows more than the average high school student

- she knows how to cut and style hair (along with all other hair related things)

- she knows how to make coffee jelly (he simply had to ask)

- she could probably tell you how to build a tank (she started telling saiki the steps but he wasnt about to listen to that whole thing, thus he is unsure if she knows the full process or not)

- she remembers most television shows mentioned to her

- her knowledge and abilities with medicine are on par with that of a nurse

#punchline of the joke is that shes just autistic and got fixated on all of these at one point or another #this is so fun thank you anon

If you're going to post a meme where the whole joke is just the image of a guy with tits, ha ha, look at this man, he's got tits, what more do I need to say about how hilarious that is, etc etc, at least tag it so people like me can block it. I get that none of y'all are thinking about what exactly it is you're laughing at, you don't mean it, but for a website full of people who never stop yelling at the top of their lungs about how trans inclusive they are, I'd think some of you guys could do a little better.

#i get it right?#people don't think about what they laugh at. laughter just comes naturally.#once when i was a cashier these two girls ran up to the cashier next to me asking where their parents were #and the cashier's customer grinned real wide and said they'd probably already left. his whole posture and tone indicated that it was a joke #and that everything was okay and nothing serious was happening #when he laughed the cashier laughed too and the kids left #a minute later another customer came up to the cashier and went OFF on her for it #saying what if those kids had panicked and run into the parking lot or street looking for their parents etc #and this cashier was a sweet old grandma who spent all her breaks knitting. she never would have wanted to endanger those kids #or even just freak them out #she just laughed on instinct because her social instincts told her to follow the first customer's tone and body language #which were telling her that everything was fine and that a joke was happening and to laugh #i would definitely have laughed. I know me. I don't think quickly enough to react the way I want to in person #so i get it. but like. after we laugh it's up to us to think a little bit about why we laughed #and where exactly the punchline was #while y'all have already signed up for my in-tags essay:#I know you could make the argument that the humor lies in seeing a character who doesn't come off as sexy-#-now having a trait that contrasts with that image in a surprising way. the unexpected is the core of how humor works #but I've found the line between that and making fun of the idea of a man having 'feminine' qualities is REALLY thin #just asking that the next time you see a similar joke you think a little bit about the mechanics of it #how it works. why it works. where the punchline is. how a man who fits that description would feel about it

I love the “tell the one about the man who married a drider!” line you get when volunteering Minthara at the circus, because she immediately gives the punchline “it was a beautiful webbing” and just accepts the fact that she is the funniest person you know

But not only that, the way it’s phrased with you referencing a specific joke and her immediately knowing what joke you’re referencing and the punchlines indicates that she had told you this joke at least once before.

It’s not just a random common joke, the way it’s phrased indicates that you both have some shared context for this joke and Minthara thinks it’s worth sharing.

So what this means is that Minthara likes to tell you bad drow puns/jokes during moments the game doesn’t show

So I’m imagining how many times Minthara has done something like sat down with the camp at night while eating a meal of 26 loaves of bread and 3 rotten apples, and begins telling an elaborate dark and twisted story about some fallen drow male who became infatuated with one of Lolth’s abominations, just to dead pan end it with “it was a beautiful webbing”
